PIO & Crisis Communications during school shootings.
The role of PIO & Crisis Communications in the incident command chart does not stop with public responders. Chatham County Schools in North Carolina recently appointed a Public Information Officer (PIO) to represent the school corporation. I applaud the school district for recognizing the importance of this position and filling it. During large incidents, press conferences need to be represented by all of the players at the table, and this includes schools. Listen as I talk about public information officers / crisis communicators and our responsibilities to plan.
Special shoutout to John Wood, PIO for the Chatham County Schools, NC for his connection on twitter. Congratulations on your new assignment.
