Sometimes in our culture there is so much emphasis on behavior and that is understandable because it is what we can see and hear but the more we learn, we know there is so much going on below the surface, in the nervous system, in the brain, and even in the gut. And at the same time, adults are often exposed to messaging that they need to be strong, resilient, and stoic. But today we want to talk about reality. With a growing mental health crisis for youth, adults who work with or support them, are often thrown into intense situations and we can't help but be impacted by them.

I’m Rachel Charron, Health Educator with Marshfield Clinic Health System's Center for Community Health Advancement and Wisconsin Out of School Time Alliance . We are excited you are listening today to our conversation with Dr.  Kelsi Offenwanger. Dr. Offenwanger is a  Clinical Psychologist with Marshfield Health System who is licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin. She works with families and caregivers of children and adolescents who experience behavioral difficulties, social and emotional challenges, and developmental concerns. Dr. Offenwanger participates on multidisciplinary teams across the Marshfield Clinic Health System and provides evidenced-based interventions to afterschool programs. She is joining us today to talk to us about how to recognize our own signs of stress and what we can do about it.
