Jet Setting With Me | Luxury Travel Tips, Set-Jetting & Travel Hacks for Trips That Hold Up
Jet Setting With Me is a luxury travel podcast about set-jetting — the destinations we see on screen and can't stop thinking about — and how a working travel advisor turns those daydreams into trips that hold up under real scrutiny.
Hosted by Michele Schwartz, founder of the Jet Setting With Me travel design agency and a Certified Travel Associate (CTA), the show explores set-jetting as a discipline rather than a trend: the work of designing itineraries around the films, shows, and series shaping where people want to go next. Episodes cover luxury travel design, cruise destinations (both ocean and river), theme park travel, and multigenerational and group travel — pairing the behind-the-scenes of a location with the operational reality of building a trip there. What to expect, what to skip, what most travelers miss, and the small editorial choices that separate a thoughtfully designed itinerary from one that's been assembled out of a brochure.
Most episodes are solo. The occasional guest joins when the conversation calls for it.
Michele has spent 35 years in hospitality — beginning at the front desk of Walt Disney World resorts across all three tiers, then through event planning and the weddings industry, and now into custom travel design for clients who want their trips designed rather than packaged. That operational background runs through every episode, and it's the part most travel podcasts don't have.

Hello, jet setters! Welcome back to another episode of Jet Setting with Me. It is I, Michele, your travel designer for Makin' Memories Travel. Last year, really about a year ago exactly, it was February 2025, I did this very tech-focused episode called Wait, There's an App for That. So with technology changing as fast as it does, I figured it was time for an update. So today I have for you a quick, fresh, updated, packed with the latest must-have apps that are going to elevate your travels. Seriously, you are going to want your phone right next to you ready to download. Although if you listen all the way through, I might have a shortcut for you. But first, just a bit of housekeeping.
If you find this episode extremely helpful, which I know you are going to, I would be so grateful if you would share it with your fellow jet setters. Follow the podcast to catch future episodes, and if you are so inclined, you can even leave me a review on Apple Podcasts. Every little bit helps us reach fellow wanderlusters just like us. Now, onto our app-solutely essential tools for the well-heeled traveler. Did you get it? Did you see what I did there? App-solutely. Okay, so quick story. Last year on a cruise that shall not be named, Mr. Makin' Memories Travel and I, we sailed aboard an iconic historical yacht.
It had historic vibes, old school charm, no stabilizers, true sailing yacht, and no app. They printed out daily menus, your daily to-dos, announcements, and they didn't even deliver them to the room. You had to like go down to the dining room to read it on the bulletin board. It definitely made me wish for my normal cruise line app or airline app, you get it, the app of choice for whatever you're traveling on or to streamline everything. It's a reminder that even when you're traveling on ultra luxury, that tech can lift the experience. So number 1, I'm replacing last year's currency converter I don't even remember the name 'cause I don't use it anymore. Now, simple calculator currency converter is right there in your iPhone. It has built-in currency conversion, super handy.
Just bring up the calculator, tap the currency icon, and you can quickly convert between dozens of currencies in real time without downloading a separate app. I love this for quick window shopping abroad. Asking for a friend, like when I'm admiring that, you know, that Neverfull purse in a Paris boutique and I don't, well, I can't do the mental math on the exchange rate. It's simple, fast, always in my pocket. I really need to know if the exchange rate is better and makes it worth buying that bag I'm eyeing in euros minus the VAT or just coming home and buying it here. It sounds so much sexier to get it in France, so don't you think? That's a problem for a few weeks from now. Okay, I have changed my CRM to Tern, so rather now than telling you which app was in last year's episode to download, you get to use Tern for Travelers. It is available for free both on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and it gives you an at-a-glance daily schedule of all your planned events.
Every itinerary I send you has this in the very first first page how to download this app, how to make it work. It's easy. You put your email link to your booking in and voilà, your entire trip is in your pocket, organized, stress-free, everything. Your flights, your transfers, dinner reservations. It stores all your essential trip details like confirmation numbers, the address of your hotel that you can show to your transfer driver. All your travel documents. Those are now all accessible offline. And best part, you will get push notifications for any flight delays, gate changes, and cancellations, keeping you in the loop without lifting a finger.
But even more impressive, it lets you message me directly in there, in the app, to ask questions or get assistance anytime, giving you that personal touch that I love to provide. Keeps you organized, stress-free. Okay, I did not in last year's episode give you an eSIM. I wasn't ready to use it. I hadn't tested it. But this time, Airalo, it's my top pick for staying connected worldwide. It covers over 200 countries with super flexible eSIM data plans. It's less expensive than that $12 a day you get on an international plan with AT&T.
It makes hopping between destinations a breeze because it's, so it's perfect for journeys like my Nordic cruise that I went through Finland, Norway, and Sweden. So it doesn't have those dreaded roaming fees. And that app now lets you share data with your family or travel buddies. So it's even more convenient. If you're looking for another option, you can check out Nomad. They offer those similar global coverage plans. They're user-friendly, and they have excellent customer support. So it's perfect for travelers who want reliable alternatives to Compare, Airalo, and Nomad.
My favorite, it's my travel advisor's secret, Rome2Rio. For luxury adventures that are going to span different cities, different countries, Rome2Rio is the game changer. This nifty app helps you find the best route between any two destinations, whether you're going by plane, train, or automobile. Had to do it. Planes, trains, automobiles. But it also works for ferries and buses. Let's say you're going from Rome to Tuscany or Copenhagen to Stockholm. Rome2Rio lays out all of your options, the estimated costs, the travel times.
You can choose what's most important to you, whether it's the travel time, getting there the fastest, whether it's the least expensive or maybe it's the smoothest, maybe it's the most stylish. Whatever way you choose, it is your personal travel concierge. It's like me in your pocket. Last year, I had clients who were going to visit several campuses in Amsterdam and maybe going into Spain to visit college campuses. My client was the mom taking her senior daughter, and they weren't exactly sure based on the college schedule people and visits when they were going to be able to go to which college. And they were using Amsterdam as their home base to travel throughout the Netherlands and possibly into Spain. But it was during the strike, the rail workers' strike, and Rome to Rio was their godsend. They had Europe rail passes and they were able to get wherever they needed to go and look at Rome to Rio to decide the best way to do that.
Now, since episode number 76, I have been perfecting my packing in a carry-on game. So I cannot believe how long it has taken me to find PackPoint. PackPoint is like your personal packing assistance in app form. Using your destination, the length of stay, the weather forecast, and your planned activities, it builds a tailored packing list so you do not forget your max 3 pairs of shoes, or that you have the reef-friendly sunscreen. Plus, it even adjusts if you're traveling for business or leisure, you know, adding things like don't forget your business cards. It syncs with your calendar, so it is perfect for detailed trips like a curated wine country tour or an arts and culture escape. Whether you're like me, a meticulous planner, or you travel so much that you're more like some of my fellow travel advisors who are spontaneous packers. PackPoint helps you arrive ready and stress-free.
Now, for those of you who want to plus it up and you're craving that elevated experience, you can add Luggage Heroes Packing Assistant or Travel List Pro as a luxury alternative to PackPoint. These upgraded apps are going to offer you enhanced features such as a curated wardrobe planning. Travel style suggestions, and integrate with your travel itinerary for an even more sophisticated packing process. Seat Guru. I'm sure that this was on last year's, but it's so good, it's worth a repeat. Flight perfectionists who never want to leave seat selection to chance, and we could do a whole episode on why you should not do that. Most importantly, because that means you're first to get bounced. SeatGuru, best friend app, provides detailed seat maps, passenger reviews, insights into legroom, power outlets, lavatory locations on virtually every aircraft that is flying.
You can pair this with FlightHopper flight deals and fly smart and comfortably because luxury travelers like us deserve the best seat in the house. LoungeBuddy. Now here is where luxury gets digital. LoungeBuddy is going to help you find and book and access airport lounges worldwide, even without elite flyer status. So when you need to relax in style before your flight in a lounge with food, cocktails, and free and Not open Wi-Fi, free unlocked Wi-Fi, the safer option waiting for you in the best airport lounges. LoungeBuddy is that must-have app for those of us who are discerning jet-setters. And a new one, CityMapper. When it comes to navigating a bustling city like a local, or maybe just not like a tourist, CityMapper is the ultimate urban travel companion.
It covers dozens of cities worldwide, and it offers real-time transit info. So multi-modal route planning— think buses, trains, subways, bikes, scooters, and walking— even taxi and rideshare estimates. So whether you are weaving your way through Amsterdam on a college trip or exploring the vibrant streets of New York City, Citymapper is going to help you get around efficiently, stylishly, and most important to me, stress bus-free. It even is going to factor in disruptions like potential strikes or train delays. I'm looking at you, New York City. So you can plan ahead, which is a real lifesaver when you've only got 8 hours in Paris and you are trying to see the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. It's a lifesaver when Google Maps will tell you, quote, take the subway or the tube or whatever the French word for that is. Citymapper is going to tell me, walk 3 to 5 minutes from your hotel to the Richelieu-Drouot station.
Take line 9 direction Pointe de Sèvres directly to Lina. Yeah, I know my French accent needs a lot of help, but you get it. And then walk 10 minutes from the Lina station to the Eiffel Tower. The Citymapper Advantage, it's going to tell me even where to stand on the platform at Richelieu to be closest to the Alina exit. Last but certainly not least, WhatsApp remains an essential communication app for everyone worldwide. Whether you are coordinating with multiple travel companions or just your travel bestie, or connecting with local guides and drivers like we did in Great Britain last year, or just keeping in touch without hefty roaming fees, WhatsApp, end-to-end encrypted messaging, group chats, voice, video calls. It is seamless and secure. It works on Wi-Fi or mobile data.
So whether you're checking in from your boutique hotel in Florence to let them know you're going to be late or texting your driver in Marrakesh, staying connected Never been easier. And of course I have bonuses for you. What are they? Well, they're already in your phone. You can use your smartphone even smarter. Okay, Google Suite. It's the ultimate travel sidekick. Google Flights gives you that powerful flight search and the tracking tool with transparent pricing. So if you're like me and you play chicken with airlines, Google Flights and Google Alerts on flights is great.
Google Translate has offline capabilities now, so you can take a picture of a menu with your phone and it will translate it for you. Because of its offline capabilities, it will even work in areas with scarce Wi-Fi. And of course, the offline mode for Google Maps download them ahead of time so you can explore those cities without worrying about data or roaming fees. I use my photos to have pictures of all relevant documents like my ID, my passport, my medical insurance card, and I have lists of notes in my phone that contain all my medications and the US dosage for when I get caught in Germany with COVID again. Not, and a list of all the electronics that I need to charge at home before I get on my 12-hour flight across the pond. So before I let you go, I told you if you listened all the way through, I had a shortcut for you. Maybe you were listening while you were walking or driving and you couldn't use your smartphone while listening to this podcast. I have made a handy PDF of all of these apps, plus a few hidden gems that just didn't fit into this episode.
So head to the link in the show notes and I, there is a link there to help you download your Mastery Luxury Travel App List because effortless travel, that is what Making Memories Travel is all about. And until next time, make every journey an adventure worth savoring.
