Informed Consent in Physiotherapy: Building Understanding and Trust
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
University of Manitoba physiotherapy students Kara and Karla are joined by first-year student Kevin to break down the fundamentals of informed consent and what it means in real clinical practice. Together, they discuss how to communicate risks and benefits, support patient understanding, assess capacity, and navigate challenging situations such as substitute decision-making, implied versus explicit consent, and ongoing consent throughout care.
This episode highlights why informed consent is more than a form, it’s an ongoing conversation that supports patient autonomy, shared decision-making, and safe, ethical physiotherapy practice.
