Stefani Michelle has two masters degrees, one in Art Education and the other in Leadership with a bachelor's degree in Communication. She is also an ordained Interfaith Minister that has performed weddings all over the country including New York, California, Arizona and Colorado. She has coached people in meditation and performed reiki treatments in local hospitals and yoga studios. Stefani is a certified yoga instructor and the author of two books, including her latest: Chakras & Shadow Work: Align Your Energy Centers and Explore Your Hidden Self. All of these skills will create a truly creative mindful healing experience that will give her clients knowledge and new healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
Here is what Stefani has to say about herself and her mission: I had a hard time sleeping as a child. The energy I could feel kept my mind and body busy and awake. I didn’t know then that it was from multiple points of energy, others, in body as well as those without. My mom provided many tools to help me focus the noise and the messages over the years. I learned how to listen when I needed and how to turn it off; not without its struggles and years of rebellion of course. We explored past lives and how to access and bring someone peace by making the connection. She taught me how to access the Akashic records and at a young age and how to help others through psychometry, oracle cards, tarot, manifestation ceremony, astrology, and much much more.
The human mind has always fascinated me. In both graduate programs and my undergraduate program I had classes dedicated specifically to the function of the brain. Everything we experience in life starts in the mind, our references for behavior, our imagination in which becomes our reality, even our physical sensations all start in our thoughts. Meditation is an exercise for the mind. It helps clear "noise", closes all the tabs and brings the mind back to a state of calm and peace. A constant mediation practice can restore and heal the entire quality of life. https://www.primalhearthealing.com/

Announcer** 00:00:04 - - This is Dream Power Radio, the place where your dreams turn into reality. Here is your host, Debbie Spector Weisman.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:00:13 Hello, hello, hello and welcome to Dream Power Radio. I'm your host, Certified Dream-Life Coach Debbie Spector Weisman. This is the show where we talk about dreams, both daytime and nighttime dreams and how you can use them to make the internal shift to a life you love and rediscover the truth of who you really are. Today we're going to be talking about chakras. And to be honest, most of my life I had no idea what a chakra was or why you need to be aware of it. That all changed about 15 years ago, when I got a firsthand look at the meeting of chakras on a trip I took to Peru. I was there to learn about the Quero elders. I attended several ceremonies where they used their connection to Mother Nature to promote healing within our group. One of the healers also offered private sessions meant to align our chakras, and I decided to take advantage of this.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:01:08 Not really sure what to expect or what the outcome might be. The ceremony went like this. He started off tying a long, thick cloth around my root chakra. Then he used alabaster stones called chompy, each one meant to represent one of the chakras, and he placed all of them on me during the ceremony. The stone for the crown chakra had a point and was used to drill down into the top of my head to put myself up to receive the healing messages he gave me. I felt a great deal of stress leave me and I left the session feeling light and full of positive energy. That was my introduction to chakra healing. But you don't have to go to Peru to learn about your chakras. I have expert here with me today. Stephani Michelle can help us understand why working with our chakras, in particular connection with shadow work, is the best path to healing. Stephani has been doing chakra work for more than 20 years. She's the founder of Primal Heart Healing, where she offers coaching and intuitive healing.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:02:10 And she's the author of the new book, Chakras and Shadow Work: Align Your Energy Centers and Explore Your Hidden Self. Welcome to Dream Power Radio, Stephani.
Stefani Michelle** 00:02:21) - - Thank you. Debbie. It's really nice to be here.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:02:23 Oh, I am very happy to be here to talk to you about chakras. So why is understanding our chakras the best path to healing?
Stefani Michelle** 00:02:33) - - I love that question. Well it's energy, right? So everything we do every day is comprised of energy and molecules, and we store our emotions in our energy systems. And we're really trying to heal. When we're really trying to heal, we have to look at all of that. We can't just stay up in our head and be heady about it and be cognitive about it. That's great. But our memories are stored in our body, and so we have to really look at those things and look at the energy systems within our body to pull them out, to rewrite. You know, we talk about retraining the brain, but we also have to retrain our bodies.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:03:15 Well, that does certainly make a lot of sense. But it's not just knowing about what our chakras are and where they are. because you actually combine knowing all that with shadow work. So for those people who may not be familiar with it, what is shadow work?
Stefani Michelle** 00:03:33) - - It is getting really deep and honest with yourself. It's looking at all of those parts that you've hidden in the shadows that you've denied that you have maybe even lied to yourself about and said they don't exist. You know, we talk about repression. So I like to kind of describe it as like the background script YouTube page that's playing the music. Where is it coming from? Our programming that's really hidden, which is why it's called shadow work, because it's hidden. We've done so much to try and put layers on top of it, to ignore certain aspects of ourselves and however they came about. So it's taking those energy systems and really exposing them to ourselves to get to the root and to the base of that background script.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:04:22 It's such important work.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:04:24 And in dream work we also talk about using dreams to uncover our shadow side, the shadow side of us. So it's so important to actually get that deep healing that a lot of people are searching for. In your book, you start off talking that the root chakra isn't necessarily the right place to start this work.
Stefani Michelle** 00:04:47) - - You can start anywhere. I like when I'm working with my clients one on one, I hear their story. What are you going through right now? And a lot of times they'll just disclose something where I know. Okay, that's your throat chakra, so let's start there. I set up the book root sacral, solar plexus. Heart. Just so you have a system, if you don't know where you want to start, just start at the beginning. Start with the root and go through it. If you know already that you have a really hard time feeling and connecting. Then, you know, go to the sacral chakra. I have a hard time loving myself, go to the heart chakra.
Stefani Michelle** 00:05:27) - - I don't believe in one size fits all. Everything can be personalized. I like to look at my book as almost like choose your own adventure. You can go to chapter seven and then back to chapter one, to chapter three, to chapter eight. You know it really depends on the person and what their journey is. But if you're not sure, then just start at the beginning. Even for myself, writing my book, more healing came out and then receiving my book, I just kind of did one of those things where I flipped to a random page, and what I read on the random page was really helpful for me that day. And it was like, oh my God, that was that was kind of magical. So no, you don't have to start at the root chakra, but it's a really great place to start when you're not sure where to start, because it's your foundation. It's the baseline. So yeah, you can start anywhere, maybe.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:06:25 As in doing this work, you recommend that you focus on one particular chakra at a time, and to do that for at least 30 days. Why?
Stefani Michelle** 00:06:39) - - So when I do Reiki on somebody and I've been doing it, gosh, I never remember. I think I got Reiki certified in 90. And so I, you know, observed my clients. And what I've noticed is there's a ripple effect and you can't get everything in one sitting. You can't get the real foundational changes that breakthroughs the integration in quick spurts. In order to make it sustainable, lifelong changes, you have to work with it for a certain amount of time. I suggest 30 days because it's a nice bookend of time. Also because in the past I've read it takes 30 days to create a habit. It takes 30 days to break a habit. So it's a nice chunk of time. And when I'm doing my Reiki clients, I always say, please don't come back for 30 days. Let the energy just go through your body experience next month with this new kind of cycle of cells and energy.
Stefani Michelle** 00:07:41) - - And be aware of how you're reacting and showing up in the world. So there's a lot of practice that has to go into it. That's why I say it's not just cognitive. You have the information, but doing the work is putting it into practice also and showing up with that new idea and that new energy and seeing how you're changing your responses, your reactions, your perceptions. So it takes time.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:08:08 Yeah. Anything that is worthwhile does take time. And because then you're not just on the surface, you're going deep.
Stefani Michelle** 00:08:20) - -
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:08:21 Little changes on the cellular level at that point. Yeah.
Stefani Michelle** 00:08:26) - - And what I have also noticed is when I'm working with one chakra and for me personally in my life, I've been working on the sacral chakra for probably six months now. And what happens is, because there's so much attached to a certain chakra, you know, feelings, emotions, anger all in the sacral chakra. You're going to have interactions that when you're focusing on that certain energy, you can see how that person shows up in that energy, how you show up in that energy.
Stefani Michelle** 00:08:59) - - And it's a time to pause and make a new decision and kind of change the dynamic. And I tell all my clients, you'll see, you can't get the validation until you have the experience. You can't get a sign on your sign. You have to know that it's going to happen and then it shows up for you. So that's another reason why I say take the time to really work with that energy.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:09:25 And you actually say that the sacral chakra. That's the one that tends to be the most out of balance.
Stefani Michelle** 00:09:33) - - Yes, yes, that's your core. That's your gut. That's where you're projecting from. You know, a lot of people think it's your heart chakra where you're projecting from. But your sacral chakra is the creation chakra, so it's where you're creating your life. So if you think about a lot of people have digestive issues and chronic illness of the gut, that's all your creation of life. To me, that is the most powerful chakra because it's our core chakra. It's where we're making everything. It's not our perception, but it's our make. Does that make sense?
Stefani Michelle** 00:10:05) - -
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:10:13 It does make sense. And you're just going a little step further. So when you get the sacral chakra aligned, does that also help promote healing of those physical issues?
Stefani Michelle** 00:10:26) - - Oh, I love that question. Absolutely. And I just got the chills up and down my body the way the visual just kind of showed up while you were asking that question is almost like a stuck cog or a stuck what, one of those water wheels. And then there's something stuck in the water can't move, so it's not flowing. And so when you work on healing that it's like everything just starts to flow. Everything from the top can flow through. And that cog is going and then it flows through your feet and into the earth. And when that signal, when your core is clogged, nothing's moving. So you have to unclog it. And then that physical issue, that's why I've been working on it for so long, because it is where you get that physical healing, and you start to feel your body.
Stefani Michelle** 00:11:12) - - It's not just feeling your emotions, right.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:11:15 Would that hold true with other chakras, for instance, the heart chakra? Would it improve your heart health for instance?
Stefani Michelle** 00:11:22) - - Absolutely. Yeah, it does. It improves that heart health. Once you start to learn to love yourself, you start to feel differently in that loving capacity, and you start to feel your physical heart differently. This might sound an interesting crazy, but I can see I my eyes are like x rays. I don't know how it happened or why I have that gift, but I can see when the emotional stuckness in the heart, what it's causing to the physical heart, and how the physical heart feels restricted and it doesn't feel like it has the freedom to pump, and it doesn't have the ability to do its job because of all of that hateful energy that you have. So when you're doing that and you're just loving yourself, you're not relying on outside sources to love yourself. The heart feels free, and it has the freedom. And it's like, oh, I'm gonna pump.
Stefani Michelle** 00:12:17) - - I'm gonna do the things I need to do. Let me help my body. Let me help my person who's inside this organic matter feel the best she needs to feel. And then it actually triggers something in your brain because your heart is now physically going, wow, we love ourselves. And the brain then goes, oh my God, yeah, let me listen to you and let me listen to the things that I now need to do to make a healthy heart so that everything works in tandem. It's great, it's fascinating, and it's so cool to see that energy and how once something is healed, it starts to send signals to everything else and it's like, hey, you guys, she's ready, she's ready. Let's start working on the physical stuff. Let's start telling our brain, I had this awesome experience, and this is in the solar plexus. I was driving to San Diego and all of a sudden, I was like, I need bone broth. And my husband was like, what? I'm like, I don't know, I just, I need bone broth.
Stefani Michelle** 00:13:14) - - And he's like, okay, as soon as we get there, we'll stop and get bone broth. But we didn't get there until it was dark, and we were tired, and we just wanted to go to sleep. The next day we went to Balboa Park, and I had an alcoholic beverage. Just one. And my solar plexus area started to burn, and I just couldn't walk the park anymore. I wasn't drunk and it wasn't in my head. It was here in my solar plexus. And it hurts so bad we had to leave. And so of course I get on Google, and I feel like this is an ulcer flaring. And I Googled what are remedies for ulcers. And sure enough, it was bone broth. And it wasn't until I had done that emotional healing in here that I was able to hear my physical body say, listen, this is what you're going to need because these are still some physical ailments your body suffers from. So it all works together. It's fascinating. It makes me so excited.
Stefani Michelle** 00:14:10) - -
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:14:12 And it's and you know, it brings the old cliche. Trust your gut. Yeah, exactly. Wisdom behind that, for sure.
Stefani Michelle** 00:14:21) - - There really is wisdom behind it.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:14:23 And with that, we do have to take a short break here. We are speaking all about our chakras with Stephani Michelle, and we'll be right back.
Speaker 00:15:02** ( - - Welcome back to Dream Power Radio with your host, Debbie Spector Weisman.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:15:10 Yes, welcome back to Dream Power Radio. I'm your host, Debbie Spector Weisman, and we're talking about our chakras with Stephani. Michelle. Well, Stephani, the really cool thing about your book is it's almost like a cookbook with different recipes for healing. And one of the methodologies that you say is part of the work in doing the shadow work is yoga poses. How do they fit into all of this?
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - -
Stefani Michelle** 00:15:36) - - You know, Debbie, you're speaking to my heart. I have the chills. I love that question. So years ago, I was in yoga school studying to be a yoga instructor, and they briefly talked about the chakras, and we talked about the sutras. We did a lot of studying of yoga, the state of mind, not just asana, the poses, but what really hit home for me was when I was actually in a pose. And of course there's a book and it says this pose aligns to your root chakra; This pose aligns to your sacral chakra. But what happened to me is when I was holding a pose, all of a sudden it was like a thought bubble. I just got a vision of something that happened to me when I was 11 years old, a moment where it was the 80s. I was riding my bicycle.
Stefani Michelle** 00:16:26) - - I thought I looked really cute, and two boys that I went to school with started making fun of me, and I internalized that and didn't ride the rest of the day. I went home, I put my bike away. I don't remember if I cried because that wasn't the point of the thought bubble. It was the moment of how I internalized that three-minute interaction. And as soon as I recognized that, I internalized that within my body image and how I then reacted to life, that thought bubble popped and went away. And it was almost like, did I just heal that background script, that shadow that was living in my brain? And the more I realized that the more I did poses that kind, the more memories just kind of came up as like thought bubbles. It's almost like that Pixar movie where she holds the memories in those glass. I don't know the name of the movie, but that's what was happening to me. That was literally happening to me. These random thoughts that I, or memories that I hadn't thought about, that I didn't actually remember, but my body remembered them once I stretched open that chakra from doing that yoga pose all of a sudden, like bursting a bubble, literally.
Stefani Michelle** 00:17:45) - - That memory would surface. I would acknowledge it, that it was something that I had been carrying as a character, as a response to life. And the second I did that, it burst and went away, and I was no longer burdened by that heaviness, by that internalization of that moment. I stopped holding on to that moment as who I am.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:18:06 Well, I so totally believe that because when we're carrying these things in us, we don't even realize we're carrying them. And you're right. Doing that enables us to unpeel those stories that are hidden deep within us. I want to also ask you about some of the other things that you talk about using precious stones and using oils and herbs and brewing teas that promote certain energies or awarenesses. So speak a little bit about how they help as well.
Stefani Michelle** 00:18:38) - - Okay, so all of those things are tools. And again, I love this information so much. I look at it as almost as vitamins to your energy work.
Stefani Michelle** 00:18:49) - - You know when we're eating certain foods those foods are that color because they've absorbed certain nutrients and enzymes and minerals from the Earth and the sun and photosynthesis and all of that. And so we're feeding our bodies. When we eat red foods and orange foods, we're feeding certain energy systems, certain enzymes. It's the same thing with the rocks that grow in the earth and the herbs that grow in the earth and other tools. They hold energy and according to what? Minerals or enzymes or light rays that they've absorbed, they're going to then reflect those certain energy systems in your body. They work in tandem, and they accelerate the healing. So I always tell people, absolutely, you don't need any of these tools. You can do the healing on your own. But if you want to accelerate it, enhance it, really get deep. It's like taking a vitamin. It's like, let's really just focus our energy on this and give us a helper. So that's what all those tools and you know, the tea recipes, they're helpers when you're in that state, when you're working on the solar plexus or the sacral, all of those ceremonies are helpers to enhance the healing process and go really, really deep.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:20:07 Something that jumped up at me as I was reading your book, because when you talk about the reticular activation system, because this is something that comes up in dream work as well, in terms of remembering our dreams and using those insights to add to our particular activation system. So how does this come and play when doing shadow work?
Stefani Michelle** 00:20:30) - - Oh my gosh. And I love that you said add to our reticular activating system because that is the key right there. We get stuck in certain patterns. We get stuck in the hamster wheel. And we surround ourselves with familiar energy. And so it reinforces the trauma. It reinforces our stuck. And the only way to get out of that is to introduce or add to what we're seeing in the world. When you read any business books or leadership books, they talk about being around successful people, being around the leaders, people that you want to emulate that energy from because it's opening up what you see in the world. It's giving you a different experience.
Stefani Michelle** 00:21:18) - - When I'm doing coaching and people are, well, it's this. It's the same energy with a different face. Go out and see new energies. Go to a place where you've never gone before. I tell them also to look up, because what you're trying to do is introduce new things to your reticular activating system so that you see all things are possible. You're trying to break your own patterns. I don't know if I wrote this in the book, but when they teach about reticular activating system, they talk about the implanting of thoughts. You know, you're going to see a yellow VW bug. Now all of a sudden all you see is yellow VW bugs everywhere because somebody implanted it. So it's about implanting new thoughts instead of just thinking of things as pipe dreams. Go out there and look at the pathways that people have accomplished. Their dreams made their life a reality, and not just stuffed it in this box. And this system it just lives in the dream world.
Stefani Michelle** 00:22:23) - - Call it in, and your eyes will start to then see all the VW bugs around you, where before you couldn't see any of them because you weren't aware of them. There's another video online where they teach this in school. It's basketball players, some in white jerseys and some in black jerseys. And they tell the class, watch this video with no concepts, no nothing. And everybody sees people playing basketball. And then the teacher goes, did you see the gorilla? Nobody saw the gorilla because they weren't introduced to the fact that there's a possibility that there was a gorilla on a basketball court. And as soon as they say that everyone sees the gorilla, that's the reticular activating system. We limit ourselves. And so you have to adopt a mindset of it's limitless. Zoom out, see everything. There’re so many pathways.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:23:13 Right. And I believe that it also helps promote the possibilities of replacing those negative thoughts that are in the back of my mind, going constantly all day long and replacing them with positive, empowering thoughts.
Stefani Michelle** 00:23:27) - - Exactly. And I'd like to take it a step further when you put those positive thoughts in. It's not just about I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, you have to say, I know I can. No, I know I can, because just believing leaves room for fear and doubt. But when you know you can, you're going to start looking for all those ways to get to where you know you can get.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:23:50 That is so true. You talk about doing shadow work with the solar plexus, and you say that you have to give up the idea of time. When you what does that accomplish?
Stefani Michelle** 00:24:03) - - that's it. I love that because it segues from what I just was talking about. Because when you believe something, you limit yourself with time. If I don't get there in this, then, you know, obviously I didn't prove to myself, and my beliefs are off and I'm wrong. Right? But when you know something, there is no time. You just get there when you get there, and you don't give up at a certain capacity at a certain.
Stefani Michelle** 00:24:27) - - Well, I only made it this far. I'm 40 now. I'm 48. I didn't accomplish what I wanted to accomplish. And so you limit yourself with time, and then that becomes where it's a belief system and not a knowing. And when you know something, there's no time. It's just going to happen. And if I'm not getting there today, I'll get there tomorrow, or maybe the next day or when I'm 80. It doesn't matter. I might be taking the wrong pathway today, but I'm gonna find the right path. It's that one alone that they talk about in yoga in your life goes like this. It's not a straight line. There's no straight lines in life. And so we can't think of timelines because those are just snippets, and they present themselves as straight lines. And that's not real. That's not reality.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:25:17 This is so true. And if I was hung up on the idea of time, we wouldn't be speaking right now because I never would have thought I'd be doing this.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:25:24 It would have been just unthinkable 20, 30 years ago. So allowing myself open to those possibilities makes it happen. And that's one of the things I have to keep drilling down to people I coaches. It's never too late.
Stefani Michelle** 00:25:42) - - It's never too late. And putting those time limits on yourself creates anxiety. It creates the thought that you might fail because there's a limit, there's a cap. But saying there's no time, we're just going to do it. We're just going to get there when we get there. Really alleviates anxiety, which is all in the solar plexus.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:26:04 That is so true. Another little piece of advice that you offer is writing a letter to yourself. How does this help the healing process?
Stefani Michelle** 00:26:14) - - The letters are so magical, I have to say. So I started writing really as my therapy on my golden birthday. My birthday is January 11th, so when I turned 11, I got a diary and I remember picking it out and it was purple leather and I just it was my dumping ground.
Stefani Michelle** 00:26:37) - - And so what that evolved into one day in my 40s was instead of focusing on the, the victim, that I felt, the victimization that I felt and all the dark thoughts and the sadness. I said, you know what? I'm this. I don't want to focus on that when I write. I want to write a letter to myself. And I got a blank greeting card that I thought was beautiful and had all these beautiful sparkly colors on it. And I wrote something like, I put the date on it, and I wrote, I am going to accomplish. And then it was just all of these things that I wanted to accomplish, and I started to focus on that, what I wanted to head towards and not what I was trying to avoid and leave behind. And I put the card away. I just I sealed it up. It was like this really great expression of how I wanted to change my life. And it was about a year and six months later where I found the card. And this was not the intention.
Stefani Michelle** 00:27:36) - - This just happened by accident the first time it happened. And I found the card and I read it in everything I had written to myself, I had accomplished, and it was mind blowing. And I just started crying and I was like, Holy cow, this is possible. You just have to shift your focus. And then I started writing letters all the time during intense energy moments with the planets and the moon and the sun and all those moments. But what then happened is I would hide them from myself, and it was like I was embedding that energy because I was saying to myself, this is what I want to focus on now. And I was embedding that energy by doing an actual activity and then like reinforcing that thought while doing the writing and then making it a greeting card. It was like, this is for me, I'm doing this for me, and this is my, you know, happy birthday when I accomplish this. And so every time I would find a card, I would have seen, oh my God, I accomplished this.
Stefani Michelle** 00:28:37) - - Oh my God, it's really working. It's really happening. So that is one of the most magical things that I have found in my life to be. It's just one of those moments where you believe magic is real. You know that energy works in your favor, and you can draw it in by just healing and shifting focus and allowing it to work for you.
Debbie Spector Weisman** (Weisman - - 00:29:01 Such a powerful thought of which to end this. Stephani, how can people find out more about you and your work?
