Speaker 1:Welcome to the God Chaser podcast in this promising new year of 2025. I'm your host, evan Evans. Last week, we explored how David's life pointed to Christ as our eternal King. Today, as many of us are setting goals and making resolutions, we're looking at David's son, solomon, a man who had the wisdom to ask for wisdom. 1 Kings 3, verses 5-9, gives us one of Scripture's most remarkable moments. God appears to Solomon in a dream saying Ask for whatever you want me to give you. Think about that for a moment as we start 2025,. If God asks you that question, what would you request? Solomon's response reveals something profound Give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong In a world obsessed with wealth, power and influence. Solomon asked for wisdom to serve others. This points directly to Christ, who would later say in Matthew 20, verse 28, the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve. Both Solomon and Jesus show us that true greatness starts with understanding our need for divine wisdom. Some of you are starting 2025 facing decisions that seem overwhelming Career choices that will affect your family Relationship. Crossroads that need clarity. Ministry opportunities that require discernment. Financial decisions that demand wisdom.
Speaker 1:Now we come to what many consider Solomon's greatest achievement building the temple. 1 Kings chapter 6 gives us incredibly detailed specifications for this building. But this wasn't just about architecture. It was about prophecy. Every detail pointed to Christ. Watch this pattern in 1 Kings chapter 6, verses 7.
Speaker 1:In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built. This pictures how Christ builds his church. Each living stone prepared beforehand, as 1 Peter, chapter 2, verse 5, tells us. You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house. Some of you, starting 2025, feel like you're under construction. Feel like you're under construction, going through painful shaping, experiencing divine chiseling, wondering why life feels so rough, questioning God's process. But understand, just as those temple stones were prepared before assembly, god is preparing you for your place in His purpose. The noise and mess of preparation happens before the placement. Look at the materials used Cedar from Lebanon, pointing to Christ's humanity. Gold overlaying everything. His deity, perfect proportions, his perfection, three main areas picturing his three offices prophet, priest, king. But it's the dedication scene that really shows us Christ In 1 Kings 8, verse 10, when Solomon finishes his prayer. The cloud filled the temple of the Lord. This glory cloud, this Shekinah presence, points to John 1, verse 14,. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory.
Speaker 1:Solomon's fame spreads and in 1 Kings, chapter 10, we see the queen of Sheba's visit. She declares in verses 6 to 7, the report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom was true, but I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. This points to how Jesus would later say to Nathanael in John, chapter 1, verse 50, you will see greater things than that. Some of you, starting 2025, are like the Queen of Sheba. You've heard about God's goodness, you've been told about His power, you've read about His promises, but you need to see for yourself. Notice what impresses the Queen most Not just Solomon's wealth, but the happiness of his servants and the orderly way his kingdom runs. This pictures Christ's kingdom where true joy and divine order reign. As Jesus would say in Matthew, chapter 12, verse 42, the queen of the south came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom. And now something greater than Solomon is here.
Speaker 1:But then comes the warning. First, kings, chapter 11, verses 1 to 4, shows Solomon's tragic drift. King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women. As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods. This isn't just history. It's a warning about how success can lead to compromise, how wisdom without obedience fails, how gradually we can drift from God, how prosperity can become a snare.
Speaker 1:Some of you setting goals for 2025 need to hear this. Success without submission leads to spiritual failure. Jesus would later warn in Matthew, chapter 16, verse 26, what good will it be for someone to gain the whole world yet forfeit their soul? Solomon's later years teach us something profound about human wisdom's limitations. Despite being the wisest man who ever lived apart from Christ, solomon writes in Ecclesiastes, chapter 1, verse 2, meaningless, meaningless. Everything is meaningless. This is a man who had it all Unmatched wisdom, unlimited wealth, unrivaled power, unequaled fame. Yet at the end, he discovers what Jesus would later teach in John, chapter 15, verse 5. Apart from me, you can do nothing. Some of you starting 2025 need to grasp this. You can have the highest education, achieve great success, accumulate vast wealth, gain worldwide recognition, but without Christ it's all empty.
Speaker 1:Solomon's life proves that human wisdom isn't enough. Earthly riches don't satisfy. Temporal power doesn't last. Worldly pleasure doesn't fulfill. Look at Solomon's final conclusion in Ecclesiastes, chapter 12, verse 13. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. After trying everything under the sun, he comes back to the fundamental truth only relationship with God matters. This points directly to Jesus' words in John, chapter 17, verse 3, now this is eternal life that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. True wisdom isn't just knowing facts, it's knowing God.
Speaker 1:As we wrap up Solomon's story, let's look at what his life teaches us about our need for Jesus. In Matthew 12, verse 42, jesus declares Now one greater than Solomon is here. Let's understand why we need this. Greater than Solomon, greater wisdom. Solomon's wisdom was given. Jesus is wisdom incarnate. Solomon's wisdom failed. Jesus's wisdom is perfect. Solomon spoke of earthly things. Jesus reveals heavenly truth. Solomon wrote Proverbs. Jesus fulfills prophecy.
Speaker 1:Some of you, starting 2025, are seeking wisdom for major life decisions, complex relationships, career transitions, ministry directions. Remember Jesus doesn't just give wisdom, he is wisdom. First Corinthians, chapter 1, verse 30 tells us Christ Jesus has become for give wisdom, he is wisdom. 1 Corinthians 1, verse 30 tells us Christ Jesus has become for us wisdom from God. Greater Temple.
Speaker 1:Solomon built a temple of stone. Jesus builds living temples. Solomon's temple was destroyed. Jesus' temple. His body rose again. Solomon's temple was localized. Jesus' presence is universal. Solomon's temple required repeated sacrifices. Jesus' sacrifice was once for all.
Speaker 1:Greater kingdom. Solomon's kingdom divided. Christ's kingdom is eternal. Solomon's peace was temporary. Jesus is our eternal peace. Solomon's wealth was earthly. Jesus offers heavenly riches. Solomon drew people to Jerusalem. Jesus draws all to himself. Greater legacy. Solomon left mixed heritage. Jesus leaves perfect testimony.
Speaker 1:Solomon's writings point to truth. Jesus is the truth. Solomon's life shows human limitation. Jesus shows divine perfection. Solomon's story ends in decline. Jesus's story ends in victory.
Speaker 1:As we begin 2025, let Solomon's story teach us about priorities. Ask for wisdom before wealth. Seek God's kingdom first. Build for eternal purposes. Guard your heart diligently. Success without submission fails. Knowledge without obedience deceives. Building without God is futile. Living for self leads to emptiness. About promise. Christ offers greater wisdom. Christ builds something lasting. Christ satisfies completely. Christ never fails or falls.
Speaker 1:Next week we'll look at Elijah's story and see how this fiery prophet points to Christ. But today, remember, just as Solomon discovered that everything under the sun is meaningless without God, jesus offers meaning beyond the sun. For those starting 2025 seeking wisdom. Christ is your Solomon Building something. Let Christ be your foundation. This is Evan Evans, reminding you to keep chasing God's heart Until next time.
