Alright, welcome back to another episode of the Purple Green Show. I'm Bobby with Justin Ryan and wait, we have guests. We have Alex, Nellie Nelson, and Evan. So seductive, Speath. It's faith. Yeah, Speath. I was like Jordan Speith. No, no, it's big. But he is super seductive. And so we got a five-sum here for you all tonight.

SPEAKER_03Back where we we've made our picks for the first game because it's going on right now. So we're first through the first quarter, pretty much. It is zero zero. Alright, it's zero zero.
SPEAKER_05Yes. Yeah. No, all good stuff. All good stuff. Man. I threw something out there today on Facebook and I asked just the general public you know what's better, Christmas or the first day of the NFL season?

SPEAKER_03Any yeah, Josh Jacobs' court uh case got moved from November to tomorrow.
SPEAKER_05That's advantageous. Maybe. Possibly.
SPEAKER_03I mean, well, you get a result. As a Packers fan, sooner is better. No matter the result. Like at least you know what's gonna happen instead of sitting in limbo for two months going, well, he might come back.

SPEAKER_03JJ McCarthy is the third string quarterback.
SPEAKER_05Well, no, I know Mike McCarthy's coach in the Steelers, JJ McCarthy is a third string quarterback for the Vikings. And Justin Jefferson is still wide receiver one. For the Vikings, sure.
SPEAKER_00Was there a doubt on that?
SPEAKER_05No. But my league sources confirm that. Oh, other than that, I mean, okay, so Josh Jacobs, he's on the commissioner exempt list right now. So he's not playing week one, right?
SPEAKER_03No, he will not. He's out week one.
SPEAKER_05Okay. So he's out week one.
SPEAKER_03Any other injury news or anything that should be out there about the only news I have for the Packers on top of that is um Tuckercraft contract-wise. Still no deal, right? Still no deal. Supposedly, the contract that Tuckercraft wants like four years, 77 and a half to 80 million, so about 19.4 million a year. Honestly, it's not a badass. But then Green Bay apparently wanted to make it a five-year contract so they can make it around 100 million.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_03We'll see. They're close. They're close.
SPEAKER_05They're close on it. Could be a deal before the end of the year.
SPEAKER_03It still could happen before week one, honestly. Yeah. We'll see.
SPEAKER_05Anything else? No news is kind of good news at this point, by the way. Well, we're not there yet. We're just on Packer News right now.

SPEAKER_00They picked up another running back.
SPEAKER_05Excited. Viking news, big news, exciting news. JJ. Oh, Harrison Smith is back. Harry Hitman is back. First, he should be first ballot Hall of Fame, by the way. He should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He's that good. Harry Hitman back with the Vikings, signing a $12 million one-year deal with potential to get up to 16 with incentives. It's good to have Harry Hitman back.
SPEAKER_03I mean, the guy is well, you need him after Jamal Adams got hurt.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah. I mean, this is a veteran who's going to lead the defense. He's going to fill in flawlessly with Brian Flores. Already knows the thing.
SPEAKER_03It's more him being the coach on the field for them than the city.
SPEAKER_05And I think that's a huge get for the Vikings. So huge win from that standpoint. The other other news I have. JJ McCarthy, things got worse for you today. You are not only QB2, but you're going to be QB three because Carson Wentz is now QB two.
SPEAKER_03My guess is he won't be active sometimes on and that's perfectly fine with me. I know, I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_05But we'll see. I mean Kyler Murray. I have no idea at this point. I he has got four years, and then he's in his third year right now. So he could be still a Viking. He still very well could be. He's got three, he's on year three. You get four years guaranteed as a first-round draft pick, and then there's a fifth-year option. I guarantee you the Vikings are not picking up the fifth-year option, but he still could be around next year.
SPEAKER_03Sure. Yeah, they're not they're not gonna pick up the fifth year option. That's gonna be over the first time.
SPEAKER_05I'll tell you right now, honestly, JJ McCarthy's future with the Vikings depends on other players more than his own. That's a crazy thing to say. Yeah, yeah, it doesn't matter. But what I mean by that, yeah, but what I mean by that is let's say Kyler Murray doesn't perform well or you know, is gets hurt, Carson Wentz, something like that happens. Um all of a sudden the Vikings are looking at 2027, they're going, oh, yeah, I gotta go draft one of these quarterbacks that are out there, and whether it's you know, someone up front, depends on how the year goes. And that's what I mean for JJ McCarthy. I mean, if the year goes well and Kyler Murray plays really, really well, yeah, he might be around for a fourth year, just as a developmental piece, because they're not gonna be drafting quarterback. But if he struggles, Vikings might be looking at, hey, we gotta draft a quarterback in 2027. So that's that's kind of where I'm at there. Yeah with him.
SPEAKER_00Your future is hanging on Kyler Murray. That doesn't seem good.
SPEAKER_05No, I honestly I think Kyler Murray will be just fine this year. I really do.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, if that's what if that's what he's hoping for.
SPEAKER_03All right. Any other Viking news? No, Harry Hitman's back. All right, that's all you need. Baker Mayfield got a contract extension. Oh, yeah. Three year, 165 million, 100 and some odd million, 110 million guaranteed.
SPEAKER_05I love Baker so much. Yeah, I know. It's about time he got his bread buttered.
SPEAKER_03Uh, and and Aaron Donald's not gonna play tomorrow.
SPEAKER_05No, he's not. I heard he's uh he didn't even make the trip though. They want him to ramp up slowly over time for some. Or he does not want to fly. What's that?
SPEAKER_03What are they paying him in the year?
SPEAKER_05Oh Aaron Donald. Baker? Aaron Donald.
SPEAKER_03No, Aaron Donald. 20 million this year. 20 mil. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Potential for 30 with incentives.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, with incentives and stuff, yeah. For sure. So, um, and then what was your news on Ashton Genty?
SPEAKER_01I thought he had a bad injury. Like, well, it's just an ankle sprain, but I heard it it looked bad.
SPEAKER_03Sounds like he's gonna play week one. Okay, yeah. Um, Brock Bowers, however, is out week one for sure. He's a good one.
SPEAKER_05Essentially week two, he had to get a meniscus trim that just happened. So it's like a haircut, you know. Um, if you do need a tight end out there, I would recommend looking for Juwan Johnson if he was not drafted. Yeah, he'd be a good pickup. Terrence Ferguson's high risk, high reward, otherwise, uh you know, you might be looking a little bit further down the barrel, but we'll find out from that standpoint.
SPEAKER_01Tight ends, uh Laporta, Kittle, both questionable. I'm pretty sure. I think they're both gonna play. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Kittle made the journey over to Australia. So it sounds like he's gonna play, and he did take part of uh team practices with the Cardinals, I believe they had. So I I expect Kittle to play.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, he'll play just I don't know, yeah. It's risky.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. How many snaps he gets is a different question, but I think he plays.
SPEAKER_03But on another note for the NFC West, Jeremiah Love is listed as running back two for week one. I saw that. He's banged up too a little bit. He's a little banged up, and that might be why he's running back too, but I think you could definitely see, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I mean, Tyler Algier, former Falcon running back, came over there. I thought that was a good signing by the uh Cardinals. He could he can fully take over a workload, I think.
SPEAKER_03Genty practiced in full. Just to answer that question. I know.

SPEAKER_00Um, DK Metcalf thinks there's a secret world in Antarctica. I did see that. I did.

I know they've been preparing for that, but we'll see what Marshawn Lloyd can bring to the table. Um and I think that uh I think they'll do just fine against Jardin Love. I mean, Jordan Love will play fine, but he ain't gonna light the world up on fire he never has against the Vikings.

You know how and apparently, so obviously so the Western team Darnold's out for the remainder of the game.
SPEAKER_05They just announced it.
SPEAKER_03The Western team was flux or thing. They were obviously getting paid to play at Michigan, right? They're one of those teams that you know you pay the cheat the crappy school to come into town and beat up on them, right? They're getting paid 1.5 million. But a lot of times, apparently, those contracts come with stipulations that you don't bad talk after the game and you don't complain about penalties and stuff. Sure. So they're probably like, yeah, we'll take the million and a half and just end it we lost the game.
SPEAKER_05Now today they did file an appeal with their conference saying that that win should be theirs and that that win should be vacated from Michigan back to them.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Also it wasn't all public and all that. So maybe that's how it built the contract, right? I don't know.
SPEAKER_05It came out today. The other thing is that uh had the window in college football because of the professional players that were then granted eligibility.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, LSU claimed two of them, but did not put them on their roster. They made the switch to actually put on two non-professional players on their roster.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_05The SEC filed a vote for tomorrow, which will probably be when this episode's getting posted, uh, to kick out LSU from the SEC conference potentially. The SEC did that? Yes. Wow. Whoa, that would be nuts. So they could be homeless. The LSU may get picked up fairly quick from a football standpoint, could potentially, it's highly unlikely at this point because they didn't carry those players on their roster, and some moves have been made, but they could potentially be voted out of the SEC tomorrow. Wow. We will see. If I was LSU, here's what I would do You're not going to get voted out of the SEC. No, but I would leave the conference at the end of the year.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we say screw you guys.
SPEAKER_05Right after you win a national championship. And I hope they do then. Yeah, that would be that would be you can't fault the program for playing the world. Following the legal federal court guidelines and saying, Yeah, you can bring these players in. They go great. We want to be competitive.
SPEAKER_03And then the conference goes, no, not the case.
SPEAKER_05And then the conference goes, come on, no, those players can't play in here. And then shame on you, LSU, for doing this. It's like, whoa, the federal courts came out. Are you saying that you shouldn't follow federal court guidelines here?
SPEAKER_03Just for a reference, like frame of mind, if you that's almost like saying the AFC decides some other rule, like they'll let those players in, but the NFC says, no, no, you can't come in here. That'd be like putting the NFC teams, like, oh, you can't have that player though.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. What? So I and that's that's where I'm at, where I'm like, okay, the SEC lost some credibility today. Um, yeah, for sure. As they used to. And you know what? It it keeps reinforcing the best conference in college football right now, is the Big Ten. No doubt.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, they won last three championships.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they're the best team in the best conference in the entire nation, but the SEC has got to get off this power trip that they in charge are the ones driving the ship for all college athletics right now.
SPEAKER_04And uh comedians understand that too, though.
SPEAKER_05Well, yeah, and I and I and I think it's a give and take. I mean, right now, I mean, I will tell you this. It was the first time it dawned in my head, is it possible you were going to have a second-tier football league rise up against the NFL coming out of the NCAA? To me, I think if you look at it from the NCAA being a you know NIL money given deal, I'm just saying down the road, maybe it would not shock me if something came out of this. Because what you were going to see in the future is you will see the Big Ten and the SEC branch off the NCAA. They won't even be part of the NCAA anymore, they're gonna be their own entities.

SPEAKER_05And then what what'll end up happening from there down the road if they continue down this money-making, you could see a competing league. A competing league come out of a conference like that. Or all of a sudden, it's no longer because you've got athletes that are going to graduate school getting their fifth, sixth year of eligibility. Yeah, they're not enrolled in your you know in your you know, liberal arts college curriculum. Yeah, and they're playing in those athletics. I mean, you're already seeing some of this take place.
SPEAKER_01When did NIL officially start COVID? 2020? 2021, yeah. That's I mean it just happened. That's the hard thing. It had to happen. It's gonna get worse and worse and worse and worse.
SPEAKER_04It had to happen, but it went way too extreme. I don't know about that.

SPEAKER_04Talk about the clippers about that one. Yeah, that's a fascinating one. That's an awesome one. But yeah.
SPEAKER_03Alright, any other thoughts for week one of the NFL?
SPEAKER_00Honestly, it's a lot more closer lines than I was expecting. I know, I wouldn't know. I don't know if the NFL was just being more careful with making sure they had similar teams lined up with each other. I mean, like, there's like what two games that were like or had two games.
SPEAKER_03Two games that were over seven. Or well, over even over four or five five and typically you see a few. So there's an eight and a half, nine and a half, six and a half is the next highest. But and then after that, four and a half. So, and then there's a ton of three and a half this week, honestly.
SPEAKER_00I mean, okay, partly at skill because everything's quite in question right now.
