Hey Guys! Welcome back!

In this episode, we discuss drain pain and why it. might be happening to you. Below is some more information!

Main Reasons for Drain Pain:

1. The catheter suctions against internal tissue

2. Too rapid or aggressive draining

3. Positioning

4. "Dry drain"

5. Constipation or bloating

💡 Things That Might Help:

  • Slowing the drain rate (your nurse can adjust your cycler settings)
  • Changing body position during drain
  • Adding a small "last fill" (so you’re not totally dry between exchanges)
  • Warming the dialysate before use (cold fluid can make things worse)
  • Using a heating pad
