Episode 3- The Ultimate Urinal with Dr. Zhao Pan and Dr. Randy Hurd
Apr 26, 2023 Season 1 Episode 3
Quansys Bio

The true title of this episode should be Zhao and Randy’s excellent urinal, as we discuss the fluid dynamics that govern splashback in restrooms across the globe. Zhao and Randy are two innovative engineers tackling one of the more pervasive overlooked issues that anyone who uses or cleans up after someone that uses, the modern urinal face. We discuss their design process, which involved extensive research into stream fluid dynamics, surface interactions, intensive mathematical modeling, and some surprising inspiration from nature.

This episode is very entertaining and will speak to anyone that deals with splashback at the urinal bank, a true instant classic, with a shocking amount of creative problem-solving and engineering processes. Please join me on this fun journey and don’t forget to subscribe for future episodes.
