SPEAKER_01

Welcome back, everybody, to the Digital Fire Podcast. It's Caleb with Stefan. And before we start chatting once again, we uh well Caleb is gonna crack a cold one with himself.

SPEAKER_03

Which I have diet coke today. And unfortunately, I already cracked mine open without realizing, so I apologize for you guys that love that intro all the time.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, the the iconic intro. But what are you drinking today?

SPEAKER_03

Uh I found a limited edition, Arizona. It's called Liberty Lemonade, and it has the Statue of Liberty on it in former glory. And it says celebrating 250 years of America, a fusion of tartion of fart fairy, excuse me. A fusion of tart cherry juice blends and lemon tea. Arizona Liberty Lemonade honors 250 years of American flavor.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, so it's got cherry and berries in it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's got cherries, uh, looks like blueberries, lemonade.

SPEAKER_01

I was gonna say if it just has or lemon, I should say not.

SPEAKER_03

But it's only 100 calories, so it's not bad. Compared to the green tea. I think the green tea is like almost 160 or something like that. Yeah, something like that. That's crazy. But um yeah, I was gonna say earlier for the intro, blockbusters, you know. I kind of miss that. I kind of miss renting if I'm honest.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it would be I wonder if I could start doing that at least online. Like if you just rent a game for a week, pay like three dollars to rent it.

SPEAKER_03

Because they they had a thing where what was it? It was like the little booths outside um where you could like it was like for movies and stuff. I I know I had one when I worked at Walgreens. There was one outside of Redbox. Redbox, yeah. Yeah, they had that where you could run it, but I think they realized that people could just scam them because like you could just literally like, oh, it's the newest Call of Duty, and then you could just put like an old PS3 game in there and it would register as it as the the newest like game, but so many people would just grab it from their thing that they wouldn't be able to track of who like purchased the game because they had a cash option and then they had a credit card debit card option. And obviously, if you pick the cash option, yeah, then you're running the game and then basically getting a $60 game at the time for free.

SPEAKER_01

So you could download the game, is that what happened?

SPEAKER_03

Or no, so they would put like a physical disc is what would pop out.

SPEAKER_01

You just wouldn't get like a you know a fancy carrying case or whatever it is for your yeah, you just get that little yeah, the holder thing that it comes in for Red Box.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so like let's say it was like Call of Duty Black Ops 2, yeah, like just released. You could they would put the disc in there in the in the um red box case, and then you could rent it for like let's say they were like, Oh yeah, for five days you can get it for 15 bucks. It's like cool. So you literally immediately rent it and then go back the next day, return it, but you put like a uh a PS2 game in there, but the thing doesn't register, it just scans the barcode that was on top of the red box or whatever, and it would just say, Oh, you you brought back your Call of Duty Black Ops 2, and then the next person would literally come back, and then that would be the next disc and slot, and then they realize they got a PS2 game instead of like so it's not funny, but it is it is funny, but it's not and we had that happen one time at Walgreens with a video game, and some guy came in and he was upset. Like he was like, You need to call your manager and get them. I'm like, We're not in charge of that. Yeah, Redbox pays us, so you gotta call Redbox on that.

SPEAKER_01

And he goes, I didn't even think that that was possible. Yeah, it's like that could have happened with DVDs too.

SPEAKER_03

Easily, I'm sure it did. Yeah, you like you just put a blank CD in there, or even a blank VHS, because they you know, blockbusters used to have VHSs, they'd be Be kind and rewind.

SPEAKER_01

It did seem like they would open it up though and check because there's an actual person.

SPEAKER_03

I remember because there was a Sonic the Hedgehog movie called Sonic OVA, and it was like an old Japanese like anime style, and they brought it to America, and I remember it was only available on VHS, and so I would ask my mom, can we rent the Sonic movie again? And she'd be like, Yeah, because I think it was like four bucks. Because like there was the kid section and the adult, you know, times were so much better back then. So you would go there, you'd rent the movie for like three days, and they'd like be kind rewind, and then some they'd sometimes also have like a rewinder like in the store or whatever. So in case somebody didn't do it, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they'd pop it in there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and I think the last game I pre-ordered from Blockbusters was Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. The last console I got and pre-ordered from uh Blockbusters was the PS3. Wait, to buy it? Yeah, to buy it. Because Blockbusters did pre-orders and stuff like that too. I don't they didn't do like the collector's thing like GameStop does, like where it's like, oh, here's a statue, here's extra DLC. So when the PS3 came out, GameStop's still open, isn't it? Yeah, it's still open, but I don't know how much longer because the whole Sony thing where they're canceling the physical media and then Xbox is doing the same thing. I think Nintendo is the only one still doing the physical media cards.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Even though it's a key card that you digitally download, like it's still physical media, so you still have some ownership to it. Yeah. Versus, you know, PlayStation, what they're you know, doing is stupid. And then yeah, Xbox is going digital too. And yeah, so it was just easier back then because you had ownership, and then even too, sometimes blockbusters would be like, well, if you want to keep it longer, you can just pay for it. So, like, if you wanted to buy like Metal Gear Solid or something like that, you could just maybe three, four days later, like, yeah, I really like this game. Can I buy it off you guys? And they'd be like, Yeah, it's like 40 bucks, and it's like, all right, cool. And then they just order another one. You know what I mean? It was just easier, and then I remember like getting GameCube games there too. Like, I remember for my birthday, I bought Sonic Riders for the GameCube. I was so happy when I got that because the game game cube had a little bit better graphics than like the PS2 back in the day, I think.

SPEAKER_01

But um did for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they had like Luigi's Mansion and then Kirby Air Rider. I was about to say Kirby Air Riders.

SPEAKER_01

Well, back then it was just Kirby Air Ride.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, that's right. It was Kirby Air Ride, it wasn't Kirby Air Riders, yeah. Um Super Mario Sunshine, that was a fun one. Um man, there was a lot of good stuff out there. I I miss Blockbusters. There's only one store open too, and I think it's in Minnesota.

SPEAKER_01

It's probably just for like novelty reasons, too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they have like well, actually they still do running there too. Oh, yeah, so they like it's just all Blu-ray discs now and everything like that, and then like whatever PS4 or PS5 games or whatever. But yeah, you can still go in there, but you can buy like t-shirts, hats, and like other novelty things and posters. I'm like, that's kind of cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think without the t-shirts and stuff, they'd probably go out of business.

SPEAKER_03

I think it's a family that owns it now because I think they they bought it and then like now it's just like they have people like running the joint and everything.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, it's pretty cool. That is cool. All right, should we get uh started? I think we should, but before we do that, we have to jump in.

SPEAKER_02

Never gets old.

SPEAKER_01

All right, let me find it. Uh okay. This is number one.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh.

SPEAKER_01

It says, hey guys, Louisiana Listener here.

SPEAKER_03

Louisiana Listener.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Hey, we're making it across the states. My name is Olivia. I am 32 years old, and my current boyfriend, hopefully soon to be fiance, she says in parentheses, is 33. We met while I was at work. I'm a waitress, and he caught my eye that day when he came in and I actually asked if I could have his table. Ooh. I gave the usual hints and we seemed to be flirting, but he didn't ask me out or for my number. So I took it in my own hands and gathered up the courage to ask him out before he left. Don't you wish that happened to us? At least to me. Ladies. But it never will.

SPEAKER_02

Ladies, if you see us at a restaurant, please ask us out. Yeah. We're desperate.

SPEAKER_01

Did ask him out before he left. I was so nervous. He said yes, and we set our first date about a week after that. I don't know if I mentioned it, but we've been together a year this coming September. Fall couple. I hate we both they like label it as like uh we're a winter couple.

SPEAKER_03

Well, to be funny, you know what's this is on me, but when I was with my ex-fiance, I called us the COVID couple because we met literally during COVID and we stayed together during COVID. Because we met in February of 2020. And then obviously they made the announcement in March for COVID. Yeah. So we just kept going. And I actually texted her during when the lockdown was happening. They were like, Oh, nobody's allowed to see anybody, you know. And I was like, I understand if you wanna like, while everything's happening, if you want to take a break or if you don't want to see each other, like that's fine. I still want to, you know, go out with you and stuff. But and she goes, Oh no, we'll make it work. I was like, All right, cool. So then we made a little joke uh before and after the engagement uh that I had back then before everything happened was uh yeah, we're we're the COVID couple.

SPEAKER_01

We met during COVID. Would you still stick with someone if they're like, well, I'll meet with you, but we have to wear masks and gloves.

SPEAKER_03

No, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

I wear no diaper over my face. Yeah, heck no. That does nothing.

SPEAKER_03

No, that literally does. You know what's the best part though is when you see them wear it in the car. Yeah, I know. It's like I see like two of them when I was driving for lunch today at work. I'm like, why what does that do? You know what I mean? Yeah, they probably disinfect their whole house too before they even walk in it.

SPEAKER_01

Like, ah, now I can finally Which I've actually heard that disinfecting your house and cleaning it too much can actually be bad for you because of all the chemicals.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I only like I mean when I'm home, and then we can get back on topic.

SPEAKER_01

I only clean my house once a year. Once a year? I'm kidding.

SPEAKER_02

I'm kidding. No wonder that towel's brown. I see it stained and everything. There's mold everywhere.

SPEAKER_01

I like how those are corduroy pants, but yes. Oh, they are? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Towel. No, I usually clean my place like once or twice a week, depending on how, like, I guess with trash and everything. Like, what I try to do is because obviously it's just me, I'm just a you know, single bachelor, you know. Yeah. Um, I have trash where it'll mostly be once a week as I have to take it out. But then when it comes to vacuuming or dishes or anything like that, because I don't really have a lot of dishes either. I'll just either hand scrub them real quick or I'll just throw them in the dishwasher depending on what I cook or whatever. But it's really not that bad. I just do it once a week, but I don't use any chemicals or anything like that. I just naturally like unless the table's dirty or something like that, then I'll use like a little spray isn't bad.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just saying if you're doing it all the time, yeah. I've heard it, I've heard it can be bad.

SPEAKER_03

Like your mom?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Your mom is a clean freak. Yes, yes, she is.

SPEAKER_01

Very, very much so. Very scary. Yes, very scary. As you've probably guessed, he's a great guy. But to spare you guys from the butt joke, there's really nothing wrong with him. At least I'm assuming that's what she means because she wrote B-U-T-T-T-T-T-T. Yeah, because it's usually like my my boyfriend's really great, but there's really nothing wrong with him. It's just the goals he has. You see, he wants to be, he wants to full on quit his full-time job as an engineer, and she puts Psy in the parentheses, and join a type of zoo or carnival thing and become an alligator wrestler, in which he will call himself Lockjaw McAlicaster. Lockjaw McAlicaster. That's a pretty cool name.

SPEAKER_03

It is a cool name, but why would you go from engineer where you're making bank to like Steve Irwin?

SPEAKER_01

Maybe he wants maybe he wants to have more fun in life and more adventure.

SPEAKER_03

You know, just one lot, you know, one wrong move from the alligator and it clamps your jaw and twists it, you have no arm anymore, or leg, or you know, life. You know, yeah, that could be true, but because what alligators do is they they chomp and crocodiles do it too. They chomp down and they have like I think a thousand pounds of pressure. So obviously you're not going anywhere. And they roll.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they roll if they're in the water.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and so like, yeah, if he's in the water trying to wrestle this thing, then he could lose an arm or a leg. And it's obviously not, you know, the most uh non-painful thing out there. So I mean, if he feels like he can risk it and make bank at the same time, sure, go for it, I guess.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but I wonder if first of all, I wonder if there's even places that even put that kind of thing on.

SPEAKER_03

Probably depending. Oh, yeah, where do they say where they're from? Louisiana. Probably.

SPEAKER_01

Because they have swamps, you know. Yeah. Um, I'm just talking about like the legality of it. Like I don't think there's gonna be deer wrestling in Michigan. Right. Maybe.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, they are. It's semi-truck versus deer, pretty much.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, that's fair. But I wonder if there is some type of program that they do where they have somebody supervise him while he's doing it, you know. If the I would hope he's in the pit or whatever wrestling, and then some of them. And there's like some guy with a stun gun. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know, man. Their skin's pretty tough. That that stun gun would have to like pierce that thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and they'd have to have good aim because it's like obviously he's right.

SPEAKER_03

And and too, he's not gonna it's not gonna like fall asleep right away because it like when it goes in, like if it's a tranquilizer, it's gonna take like probably at least five seconds for that thing to like actually pump whatever fluid in there to knock the alligator out. Yeah, but yeah, Louisiana Swamps, man. I I can guarantee you they got probably some underground crap, like an underground fight club, but it's like with alligators.

SPEAKER_01

You're probably right. Hopefully that's not what this guy wants to do.

SPEAKER_03

Hopefully not.

SPEAKER_01

With a name like Lockjaw McAlicaster, he's gonna be making it making the rounds in the newspapers. Like a Napoleon dynamite character. I don't even know if this type of thing is legal either. Are you able to do this type of thing? I know there's shows out there, but I wonder if they have permits or something like that. Let alone it's dangerous, right? Yeah, as you've stated. I want him to chase his dreams, but maybe a different one if he can help it. I feel like I'm being a jerk because I'd rather him either stick to his engineering job or maybe another regular business practice. Am I overreacting? Or as they say in Reddit, AIO. A I O? Yeah, am I overreacting? Why is everything such like an acronym? I hate that everything's an acronym these days because I'll go on Reddit and it's like AIO, and then they'll send a text. I'm like, what does that even mean?

SPEAKER_03

Granted, I think the first acronym that me and you probably grew up with was BYOB, bring your own booze. Like we I would hear that at least more than often with my mom.

SPEAKER_01

Mine was like that stupid BFF Jill commercial that they used to have. That oh yeah, it was like, oh, like it was like TTYL might be BFF Jill or something. It was a commercial. I forgot exactly what it what it said.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I remember it. Because I remember like the girl was like, uh BB DTYL, BFF Jill.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was just stupid.

SPEAKER_03

And the parents were like, what? They didn't get it. Uh I think it was a Kmart commercial, probably. It had to have probably. We'll have to look it up after this. Which we will always will. Yeah, we always will. We'll mention it next time too. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

About how funny it was.

SPEAKER_03

So this boy's an engineer. I kind of want to know what his salary is per year. Because if he's an engineer, what is he, a train engineer? Is he like an engineer like electrical? Like that'd be kind of cool to know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm assuming it's like probably like like a design engineer, mechanic engineer, or something like that.

SPEAKER_03

Because I mean, hey, he if he's making like six figures a year, and maybe he's like well, no, I was gonna say he's not close to retirement because he's 33, but average salary in the United States for an engineer.

SPEAKER_01

This one says nearby where we live, so I don't know how it is around. Louisiana. Yeah, but maybe I can just do uh Louisiana. Let's do that.

SPEAKER_02

See what you alligator people are known for down there for being an engineer.

SPEAKER_01

So it is less. Here it's 115,000 as the average. Thanks there, it is ranges from 87,000 to 104,000. But that's still it's still good. Yeah, that's still good. And I think it is also cheaper to live in Louisiana.

SPEAKER_03

Now, here's the real question. Look up how much you get as a salary as an alligator wrestler.

SPEAKER_01

If that's even a professional alligator wrestler salary. Did not think I'd be Googling that.

SPEAKER_03

Put it up in the search history.

SPEAKER_01

An alligator wrestler salary ranges from entry level hourly pay of about there's no way six dollars per hour to an annual salary of sixty thousand to eighty thousand for veteran experts.

SPEAKER_03

That's pretty bad for like risking your life at that point. So he would be taking like let's just say he's making a hundred and four thousand, right? Let's just say he's the best engineer in Louisiana ever. He would be taking a forty thousand dollar pay cut at that point. That's crazy. No, girl, don't let him do that.

SPEAKER_01

Well, Gator Girl from Houston, Texas makes about 80,000.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but that's Texas. They have guns everywhere. You can just shoot the alligator at that point.

SPEAKER_01

So that always plays into the city. You know they're getting more views, not because she's wrestling alligators, right? Because she looks good.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. But yeah, no, I would I would say with her at this point, I'm like, bro, there, there's the facts right there. Let's say for you guys, you're making like 80 to 100. Let's just say again, he's like the top guy. 104,000, right? Yeah. So six figures. He's making 104k, and then he wants to do this alligator wrestling, is what's his name? Napoleon Dynamite character? Lockjaw McAllican. Lockjaw McAllister. He wants to do that and make forty thousand dollars plus less to risk his life for an animal that probably shouldn't be messed with in the first place. Yeah. Yeah, I'd probably say no. He needs to probably extend his career elsewhere.

SPEAKER_01

And she's not really going into detail. I wonder if he just means as like a pest control type thing. Oh, maybe. But even then, I think that's what this is referring to. They don't get paid that much.

SPEAKER_03

Right. But still at that point, yeah, that's a huge pay cut because it would be basically, I feel like she would have to, I don't know what she does for oh yeah, she's a waitress, right? Yeah. So yeah, waitressing, it sounds crappy, but unless you're making really good tips, you're probably not making that much. So you're probably mostly stay at home and you're doing part-time, maybe full-time, you know. I'm not judging, but you're not making as much as like an engineer. And then if depending on what your lifestyle is at that point, whatever you and your fiance, hopefully a future fiance, uh go towards, then it's more like you let's just I don't know what housing they have. Like if they have like a five-bedroom or something like that, you take forty thousand dollars out of the equation just to wrestle alligators. Sure, you might get publicity, but then there goes your mortgage. Yeah, there goes your car, yeah, there goes your lifestyle, and McDonald's trips every two minutes, you know.

SPEAKER_01

It sounds like, especially with a name like that, he wants to like make a like a name. Like a YouTube channel? Yeah, YouTube channel.

SPEAKER_03

Boy's gonna publish one video, and that's his last video, too.

SPEAKER_01

All right, guys, it's locked on the calcaster. I got this alligator here.

SPEAKER_02

Today I'm gonna wrestle this alligator. It's said to be one of the most dangerous creatures in all of the animal kingdom. I'm gonna wrestle it. He's angry. He's like, it's thrashing around in the video. He's angry. That's literally how it would be, too.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, that is.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, I would probably talk to him and be like, unless you're close to retirement, like, you know, in another 40 years or something like that, even like I'd probably be like, yeah, no, at that point you can do whatever you want, but not now. You're 33. Do not let an alligator kill you because of the fact that you want to live this glorious YouTuber's dream. Watch, and then he gets associated with Mr. Beast or something like that.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, that'd be crazy.

SPEAKER_03

Speaking of crazy too, Mr. Beast, he's insane. Like, he do now. He just has money. Like, he literally bought like there was one video I just randomly clicked on because I was like, Okay, I want to see what Mr. Beast is up to. He goes, I just bought 10 diesel locomotives and I dug a 600 foot hole in the ground. I'm gonna make sure that they all run in there and see what happens, but if these guys Can tie three knots in their shoes by the time the trains fall in the hole, they'll win $10 million each. I'm like, so you just casually bought 10 diesel locomotives, dug a 600-foot hole in a random plot of land, and then have people tie their shoes with three knots, and if they win, they get $10 million each. That's so crazy. Like this dude just has money. And I'm sitting there.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that's what happens when you make it big on YouTube. Because that's what he did, right? That's that's all he does, is YouTube, right?

SPEAKER_03

That's all he does is YouTube. And the the thing I hate about Mr. Beast is that, or I didn't, I shouldn't even say Mr. Beast, but also Mr. Beast is so this dude, right? And I'm gonna sound selfish right now, but there's random people on the internet that will just randomly blow up, like they're not popular, like they have no YouTube channel. They just started TikTok yesterday, and they're like, My car broke down, waiting for Mr. Beast to buy me a new one. And then he comments, like the actual Mr. Beast account comments and he goes, DM me. And then their next video is he bought them like a 2027 Ford F-150.

SPEAKER_01

Well, then maybe we should try that.

SPEAKER_03

That's what I'm saying. I'm like, I want Mr. Beast to buy me a DeLorean. I'd rather have an older car anyway now because anything 2027 and newer has to have this AI camera in it. And I'm like, I'm not about that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I would rather the one that like checks your eyes to make sure you're good to drive.

SPEAKER_03

It checks your eyes and facial recognition and then your mannerisms and stuff. And if it if it senses and sees that you're not fit to drive, it like will not, even if you put the key in the initiation or press the start stop, it will not let you drive at all. So you could either be like like you could be bludgeoned at this point, and then like, oh sorry, your adrenaline looks high. Sorry, I'm not letting you drive to the hospital. And or like, let's say you get like somebody pregnant and they're on their way to the hospital and there's like sheer panic, you know, because the baby's coming, and then the AI sits there and is like, oh, sorry, you know, adrenaline's up, can't drive.

SPEAKER_01

I have a good feeling that's not gonna last long. No, probably not. There's gonna be somebody who comes in and been like, Yeah, we gotta ban this.

SPEAKER_03

Well, it's the same thing too with electric vehicles, is they're they they try to make it big by saying, Oh, yeah, you get like a $25,000 tax cut if you buy like an electric vehicle like a Tesla or just wait for three hours while your car drive.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And then you know what's funny though is even with Tesla 2, like you have to update the car with like the software update, and it won't let you drive it if it has an update. So like you just are stuck there. Oh, yeah. And then even too, like they're like, Oh yeah, I love electric vehicles. Like, you know, you charge it in five minutes and it only or you charge it for like 40 minutes and you only get five dollars worth of electricity that you get charged, and it's like, okay, cool, but I can literally put the nozzle in my gas tank, pump it for like maybe 20 seconds at most, and then just go.

SPEAKER_01

I want to know what what gas station you go into that only takes 20 seconds. I don't know, but you know what I'm saying. Yeah, I know what you're saying.

SPEAKER_03

Family fair, family fair.

SPEAKER_01

All right, but anyway, back to lockdown. Yes, you gotta talk to this guy and talk him out of this. Yes. And uh unless Mr. Beast is involved, unless Mr. Beast is involved and can and can fund him and pay his salary, then you'll be good.

SPEAKER_03

Imagine we hear from her and she's like, Yeah, Mr. Beast actually funded everything. The next YouTube update is just some random alligator fighter. That'd be great. I'd love that.

SPEAKER_01

And we thank you for the story, but now it's time to move on to Number Two. Yes. Uh let's see. Does the neighbor girl like me? Hi, I'm a 24-year-old man living in an apartment complex. I've lived here for about two and a half years. About six months ago, a woman moved in a few doors down from me. Most days that I would pass her, she would smile and do the hair flick thing at me, which doesn't mean anything. No. We we think it does, but then some sometimes it does mean something, but sometimes it doesn't.

SPEAKER_03

I would say most of the time it doesn't. Yeah. Like you they have to be way more like just out there with it.

SPEAKER_01

I just think it's funny because like some girls online will be like, yeah, if I make eye contact with you, that means I'm interested. It's like that doesn't right.

SPEAKER_03

Like I can stare at you and be like, hey Caleb, you're interested in me, right?

SPEAKER_01

Oh man. This was at the beginning. Within the last few months, I started saying hi to her in passing, which seems like it took you a little too long.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And just the other day we struck up a conversation about some of our hobbies. One thing she enjoys doing is watching Treasure Planet every second Friday of each month. So I have a question. How does he know this? Like, is he peering through the Well, because he he said they talk about their hobbies. Oh, I'm like, and he said one thing she enjoys doing. He could have said like one thing she told me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But he does say we struck up a conversation about some of our hobbies, and then he goes, One thing she enjoys doing is watching Treasure Planet every second Friday of each month, which is a great movie.

SPEAKER_03

It is a great movie. It's one of Disney's underrated movies, but it's so good. Yeah, it's so fun. They don't make Disney movies like how they used to. They don't make any movies like they used to. No. Except John Wick. John Wick is like really good. And apparently the new Spider-Man movie is pretty good, I'm hearing.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I hear too.

SPEAKER_03

It's like brand new home, I think it's called. But yeah, it's I hear it's like really good. And Shane from The Walking Dead is in it. He's Punisher.

SPEAKER_01

Is Punisher a good guy?

SPEAKER_03

Uh, I think he's like one of those anti-heroes where like he just does whatever it takes, regardless if it like harms people or not. Like just as long as the mission gets complete for helping human like helping the world or something.

SPEAKER_01

And I didn't know Punisher was Marvel.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, he's he's Marvel.

SPEAKER_01

I guess I'm just you learn something every night.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's I mean, there's always like with DC and Marvel, there's always the copycats. Yeah. So it's like you got Batman versus I don't know, I think Night Owl or something stupid like that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So there's always like the the mirrored.

SPEAKER_03

The mirrored, that's what it is.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so she watches Treasure Planet every second Friday of each month, which is a weird schedule, but whatever. And she invited me to join her sometime to watch. Not sure if she's just being nice or if she has she genuinely has some sort of interest in me. This has yet to happen because the weird second Friday hasn't happened yet at the writing at the time of writing this. Okay. And more recently. Okay. And more recently, it seems as if most days as I'm heading to work, she will be conveniently leaving her apartment at the same time and will try and talk to me. In a non-rude way, I always smile and just tell her I'm on my way to work, and that's that. But even sometimes as I'm coming home from work, she will be exiting her door saying, just off to get groceries, but also ask how I'm doing and stand there and continue to try to talk to me. It could all be coincidence, but the amount of times it's happened and how many times do you have to get groceries in a week also girl be packing on the pounds or something? And also the treasure planet thing makes me think that maybe she is into me.

SPEAKER_03

What do you guys think? First of all, how much are you paying for rent? Because we both paying a decent amount. If it's somewhere cheap, tell us.

SPEAKER_01

I want to be getting groceries every day.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Shoot, that'd be kind of nice.

SPEAKER_01

Something tells me she's not actually getting groceries.

SPEAKER_03

No, and something tells me like she's either the world's biggest Treasure Planet fan or she's not really watching Treasure Planet twice a week. But you never know. Once a month. Or once a month.

SPEAKER_01

Second Friday of every month.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's right.

SPEAKER_01

Which is one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard, but whatever. It is, but like why would that be like the thing you tell somebody that you enjoy doing?

SPEAKER_03

I think it's probably one of those, like, I think she is interested, but it's like one of those things that, like, yeah, if I can't, I feel like if I was nervous and I was talking to somebody, because I've done it before where I'm like, I like Animal Crossing. Like, it's just like random stuff. It's like, oh, what's that? Oh, it's a game I play like every second Friday of the morning, you know, like something like that. Like, I get nervous too. But I think if she because clearly he hasn't been over there to watch Treasure Planet, yeah, at least at the time of writing this. Yeah. I so I I don't know. Like, I wouldn't here's here's my thing. I wouldn't read into it any more than a friendship right now, because you're obviously still trying to get to know her, know her. Yeah. And then maybe after a couple more times, then see about maybe inviting her over if she's comfortable around you.

SPEAKER_01

Or go on a real date.

SPEAKER_03

Or go on a real date. Just be like, hey man, like you want to go get like Yeah, call her man. Hey, bro. Call her bro. Um, just be like, yeah, you want to go get like hot dogs, or you want to go get burgers or shakes or something. Yeah, and talk like that. Yeah, talk just like that. Or like uh, do you want to go get burgers and go see the paperclip museum or something?

SPEAKER_01

Paperclip museum.

SPEAKER_03

Just like some dumb. Is that a real place? No, probably. Probably in Switzerland. I don't know. I know, oh yeah, speaking of museums and stuff. Uh so in uh this month I'm actually going to Florida to go see dad. I know, crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Um is this gonna be the first time you go on a plane?

SPEAKER_03

No, I've been on a plane like uh this I went to Texas and then I went to Wisconsin and then Tennessee.

SPEAKER_01

I do not like I personally don't like flying. It kind of just freaks me out a little bit.

SPEAKER_03

I don't care for it. I mean, it's the one thing that still gets me is even even though it's well past it is the September 11th attacks. Yep. That's that's a thing, because obviously me and you were were around when that happened. Um, and we were very aware of what it was and what was happening. So that's the only thing that gets me. But other than that, like I don't mind it. Like it's not horrible, it's just the fact of like you know, anything could happen at any moment. You're like 30,000 feet in the air.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But there's a Titanic exhibit down there that's happening, and I think it's lasting all the way through August. So dad's like, Yeah, you want to go? And I was like, Yeah, so we're gonna be probably going to see that, and then I'll be able to go to the beach and swim in the ocean for the first time and not Lake Michigan.

SPEAKER_01

You'll miss Lake Michigan, probably. I mean, I have some questions. Once the nasty jellyfish are swimming by you, it's like are they like dead or alive? I think they're dead some a lot of time, they're just like floating. And then you get like a little bit of water. You know how like if you're just like swimming, water will go in your mouthfully. Oh, yeah, and it'll be all salty, which is interesting, but it's also kind of gross, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because I mean, yeah, it's ocean water versus like fresh water.

SPEAKER_01

Plus, what if you run into Bruce? My name's Bruce.

SPEAKER_03

I was actually asking dad, I was like, are there any like shark attacks down there lately? And he goes, No, not really. It's more like if anything, it's like crocodiles getting into people's pools and just like chilling down there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's that's the thing that mostly happens. I think Jaws really ruined the ocean for a lot of people, but I don't think shark attacks are very common.

SPEAKER_03

No, but you know what's funny though, speaking of Jaws, is that uh for a while they they have them, I think they have them every now and again, but now it's more rare. But when Jaws, they would play the first Jaws movie out in the middle of like a small lake, and they would have it like kind of like buoyed off to where like the floaties and everything couldn't like you know go out or whatever, and they would play Jaws at night. So you're you're watching this on a floaty in the middle of the night in water. I wouldn't either because I'm be sitting there, I'm like, oh my gosh, what's under the water? Because that's a childhood fear right there, too. Even in like pools, like the Rockford High School pool, like I would be sitting there at the 12 foot deep section. Cause what they would do is they'd have those bricks that like the divers would have for like practicing swimming and stuff, yeah. And they would let us play with them. So what I would do is I would just go with like crisscross and I would just let the brick sink me down to the very bottom where the vents were in the 12-foot pool section, and I'd look up, and then when I would be swimming up, I'd always remember looking down to see if a shark was coming because I'd be like, oh god.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, anyway. So does this girl like this guy, you think?

SPEAKER_03

I would say she's probably interested, but again, I wouldn't read too much into it. I would just say she wants to probably get familiarized with you and then see where it goes. Because I mean, yeah, she's she could be like a friendly, you know, bubbly kind of girl.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that could be the thing too. You never really know.

SPEAKER_03

So that's why I'm like saying, like, don't read too much into it. Just take it as if she wants to be friends and then maybe see, like, don't be obvious, like, you know, you want to go out, you know, like that. Like, just be like, hey, you know, if you want to. Right. Like, just ask her to come watch Napoleon Diamond at your place or something. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Or they could watch the new YouTube lock drama callcast.

SPEAKER_03

They could, they could watch him too. You know, just like do it like the next Friday after, like maybe the very last Friday of the month or something, so that way it doesn't interrupt her treasure planet fandom.

SPEAKER_01

You know, yeah, you can't invite her out on the second Friday of the month.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta nope, you gotta do it on a different Friday, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, if you want to do the second week, have it be Thursday or Saturday.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, I say go for it, but just again, don't have the mindset of, oh yeah, like she likes me. Just see where it goes for a few Fridays or whatever, and then just invite her over and maybe see if she wants to go out to eat or something like that afterward. And then obviously, if she backs away, then you know that she's just wanting a friendship at that point. And then you could, if you still want to be friends with her, then just be like, yeah, I'm gonna be friends.

SPEAKER_01

Or she's just trying to expand the treasure planet fandom.

SPEAKER_03

That is true. Maybe she's trying to get like a treasure planet cult.

SPEAKER_01

He like goes there and there's like someone else just sitting there at the couch, dressed up as like the captain.

SPEAKER_03

Her whole home is like the theme of the pirate ship. That was a oh my gosh. I kind of want to watch that now. I kind of want them to make like a video game, like a good video game out of it. I I wish, you know what's weird? They so Disney has this thing with like making live action movies. I honestly feel like that would be kind of a cool live action.

SPEAKER_01

If they did it well, if they did it well, that would be cool because we saw what they did with The Rock and Moana, and that was awful.

SPEAKER_03

I don't even know why they made a live action Moana because it's still relatively new. It's not even like it's not like it was 1995, yeah, and they came out with Snow White, or no, 19 like 64 and came out with Snow White, the live action. Yeah, this is like Moana was what 2016?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, 10 years ago.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, 10 years ago, and it's like they just had the second one. Yeah, they just had the second one. So why do we need a live action Moana with uh what's her name? Zendaya or something like that, I think is Moana.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I just remember the rock with a wig and a fake bodysuit on. I'm like, dude.

SPEAKER_03

She's just as stiff as a board though in the movie.

SPEAKER_01

I've seen clips of it on TikTok, and she's just like, hold me. Is it just like a uh it's a one-for-one remake. That's just live action.

SPEAKER_03

It is just live action, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So there's Dwayne the Rock Johnson in all of his fake glory singing You're welcome. Yep.

SPEAKER_03

And actually it's funny because he doesn't even sing it like full potential like he did in uh the first film. It's like there's moments where he just doesn't like he's just stiff too. Like well, he's so old, right? He's like what probably 60 or 70.

SPEAKER_01

He's I don't think he's 70, but probably got his 60s. He's gotta be up there. Let's see here.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, like if they did something with Treasure Planet, like I'm like, that'd be kind of cool. Because that movie, it was like all space themed, and they had like different alien creatures and stuff. As long as they don't pull a Lilo 54, 54. Okay, so he's not as old as I thought. Dang, I thought he would be like at least in his 60s or something. Yeah, but like as long as they don't pull like a Lilo and Stitch, Stitch looked good in the live action, but Peakley and uh who's who is who's the big purple guy again?

SPEAKER_01

I can't, I don't remember.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I forget his name. That that actually kind of irks me a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Now I'm gonna have to look up another one.

SPEAKER_03

I know oh Jumba.

SPEAKER_01

Jumba Jumba.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he um they looked atrocious. Um, and they weren't even voiced by the same voice actors or anything like that, which kind of sucks. But I think the voice actor for Jumba had passed away like a while ago, so it's not like they could use his voice anymore. What's the other guy's name? Peakly. Peakley. Yeah, Jumba and Peakly. And there's obviously Stitch, Leela, or Lilo, and then Nani. Nani was the girl. Uh this the older sister.

SPEAKER_01

Is this an actual picture or is this a joke?

SPEAKER_03

No, no, that's yeah, that's the actual CGI Peakly. And then you know the part like in Lelo and Stitch where they disguise themselves as like human?

SPEAKER_01

Just like with the Shrek thing that they did.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and they're still publishing it too. Like, I think they fixed Shrek's face a little bit to make it look more like the Shrek that we know because they got so many fan complaints, but it still more or less looks like why would they change it? Because they want to appeal to like a newer audience and try to get them like in there. Because honestly, like it's like the older Shrek does look older, but at the same time, like they made five movies and obviously it pulled them off. Like they were doing good with production and everything, and people knew who Shrek was, but then you put this guy and he looks like he's Shrek from Timu. Like he does not look like Shrek. No, and Donkey. Oh my gosh, don't even get me started on Donkey.

SPEAKER_01

But we ain't gonna get started on Donkey, because we gotta get started on number three, and this one does seem a little long, so I am going to You just gotta tell him to shut up. Yeah, I'm gonna I might have to like skip some parts because like I it just we'll see.

SPEAKER_03

It's pretty long.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, cool. Um, this one just gets right into it. I've been seeing this women, woman.

SPEAKER_03

Women?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I have been seeing this women. Man's a player multiple, yeah, big time player. I'll call her Emily because that's actually her name. And if she's a ghost, I don't think she can sue me for a ball.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, this is a long one, so who knows? I guess this guy might be a ghost, yeah. Ooh, this one's so getting a scary story. I maybe. We'll we'll have to see. Maybe he will things have been going great. She's funny, she's smart. This is one of those, but she somehow always wins trivia, even though she claims she doesn't own a TV. She also has a habit of saying things like, I've always loved the fashion of the 1890s in a way that doesn't sound ironic. There were little things I ignored. She never texts first, but she'll somehow already be waiting outside my apartment when I leave. She is kind of scary. Oh, a little bit. She refuses to take selfies. Every picture anyone else takes of us is blurry, which I blamed on my cousin Greg because Greg somehow makes every photo look like Bigfoot was the photographer. Well, okay, where does Greg come in the picture? That's what I'm saying. Why Greg? I'm more interested in Greg at this point. Oh, so this is gonna be this is gonna be interesting. She also once asked me completely seriously, do you do people still use bloodletting? Bloodletting? What does that mean?

SPEAKER_03

Unless it's wait, bloodletting? What is that? I feel like it has to do some I don't know. I wouldn't say like anything with writing per se, but maybe it has something to do with um I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Bloodletting is the deliberate removal of blood from the body.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, so like probably for like how they phlebotomy. Yeah. Yeah, phlebotomy, like when they like when you have a dead person and like you have to drain all the fluids out of them and stuff, and then fill it with the other fluids to preserve the body or whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. Like maybe that.

SPEAKER_03

But maybe they had a different tactic back then, I'm sure. Yeah, but why would she ask that? I don't know. Maybe she's a vampire, because I mean, if she refuses to take a selfie, she may not show up because a ghost would show up as a blur.

SPEAKER_01

Well, they did say that they show up blurry, but that's because of Greg. Darn it Greg. We also don't know why Greg is in these taking these pictures either. Because he just popped up in the story. So Greg. Do people still use bloodletting? I laughed. She didn't. Anyway, last Saturday she suggested we go to the haunted sand dunes in northern Indiana. Is that even really a thing?

SPEAKER_03

Maybe.

SPEAKER_01

I mean I've heard of Haunted Forest, but never the sand dunes.

SPEAKER_03

Well, and then they also have like Hell's Bridge here, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's very underwhelming.

SPEAKER_03

Very we went there, right? Like I've been there. So apparently that's not Hell's Bridge. I think what happened was is they took us to a spot that was similar to it, but I think the actual Hell's Bridge is a little bit more like there was something there. It wasn't like that weird iron bridge that we crossed. It was it was it's somewhere else out in the woods that you can tell like some sort of form of structure was there at some point, like remnants of the past.

SPEAKER_01

Now I'm from the Midwest, so when someone says, Want to go. To haunted sand dunes, my first thought isn't that sounds terrifying. It's will there be parking? Oh, so this guy's really funny, too. Oh yeah. We get there just before sunset. Beautiful place, rolling dunes, Lake Michigan nearby. Wind blowing dramatically, like we accidentally wandered into the opening scene of an A24 movie. Emily is weirdly comfortable, like tour guide comfortable. This dune used to be much taller. How do you know? It was not it used to be. It was. What is going on? Are you following? Darn it, Greg. Yeah. All Craig's for. So she's comfortable like a guide. She says, This tune used to be much taller. How do you know? So I'm assuming he's asking, How do you know? But I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think how the premise is going is like they're just walking around like having a good time, and then she's like basically like, Oh yeah, this used to be this, this used to be that. And then he's like, How do you know all this? Like that kind of thing. Yeah. Because she's coming off as like she's r lived in this past before, or something like that. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's weird.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just trying to like sh so she says, This dune used to be much taller. How do you know? And then it says, It was, not it used to be, it was. Past tense with confidence. She also knew where every old trail went, even the ones that don't exist anymore. I asked how. She said memory. Not I read about it, just memory. At this point, the ghost spreadsheet in my head had several check marks. Then things got stranger. We passed an old historical marker. Emily looks at it and says, They spelled my last name wrong. Excuse me? I asked what she meant. She immediately changed the subject and asked if I wanted trail mix. Classic ghost deflection. Yeah, I thought this guy's either like actually dumb or trolling us right now.

SPEAKER_03

Or he's Danny Phantom.

SPEAKER_01

Or he's Danny Phantom. Back from the cartoon grave. Later we're walking up one of the dunes and there's nobody around. The wind suddenly stops. It's completely silent. Emily looks towards the trees and quietly says, They're still here. Now, if you've ever wanted every muscle in your body to file for unemployment simultaneously, that's how that's a good line. I kind of like that. That is a good line. Okay, so he may be trolling us, but he is funny. I asked who's still here. She goes, the mosquitoes. Then immediately gets bitten. Honestly, that made me excuse me. Honestly, that made me feel better because I don't think mosquitoes discriminate against the undead. Probably not. Then came the biggest clue. We found this old cemetery near the edge of the preserve. Emily walks right up to one headstone, don't doesn't search, doesn't read names, just walks directly to one, puts her hand on it, smiles sadly. I think this is it. She's visiting herself. Or it could just be a family member. Right. Like, why is it automatically jumping to like she's just some creepy girl?

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna imagine too. Like she just randomly puts her hand on some rando's grave, and like the family's coming to put flowers on. Hey, hey, what are you doing? Who are you?

SPEAKER_02

Just a friend.

SPEAKER_03

Like just some weird, creepy crap like that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, maybe she's just trying to like creep this guy out.

SPEAKER_03

Right, because she's really not interested this whole time. So she's like trying to make it like I'm a ghost.

SPEAKER_01

That's one way to just not say I'm not interested. Right. I'm already mentally preparing the breakup conversation. Listen, it's not you, it's the whole technically deceased thing. Then she says, My great-great grandmother. I asked if she came here often. She says, No. Long pause. Not since the funeral. I nearly passed out. When was the funeral? She looked confused. 1908. Okay. I swear my soul tried to exit through my left ear. Then she burst out laughing so hard she had to sit down. Turns out she volunteers at the local historical society. So I like how his first assumption is that she's a ghost this whole time. She'd spent years researching families buried there. The wrong last name was on an old informational plaque she'd helped correct. She knew the dunes because she'd hiked them dozens of times while documenting old photographs. She doesn't take selfies because she says they make her look like I look like a startled potato.

SPEAKER_03

A st how does a potato look startled? Is what I'm saying. I'm interested now.

SPEAKER_01

The blurry questions, Greg. Definitely Greg. As for saying she hadn't been there since the funeral, she was making a joke because she'd been talking about her great-great-grandmother. Apparently, my face turned the exact color of ranch dressing, which is just gross because that's like white, but like with with like little black dots in there. Yeah, like specks and stuff. She laughed for five straight minutes, then bought me ice cream because she said I looked like I needed emotional calcium. Here's the problem. Emotional calcium? Yeah, well, ice cream is has like milk in it, and it's perfect when you're depressed or sad or scared.

SPEAKER_03

You're right. Yeah. Because I go home every day from work and watch Titanic and cry myself to sleep eating a gallon of ice cream. Ben Jerry's ice cream.

SPEAKER_01

I do it without the Titanic.

SPEAKER_03

I just do it because I I cry at the part with I'll never let go, Jack. I'll never let go. You hear the whistle blow. Come on! The guy's screaming.

SPEAKER_01

And then she does let go at the end, doesn't she? By throwing the thing in the water.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she didn't she didn't want. I was like, at that point, Jack just died because he didn't want to play child support or something like that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he just let go and was like, yeah, screw this.

SPEAKER_03

The economy in 1912 sucks.

SPEAKER_01

Here's the problem. Ever since then, she keeps leaning into it. She'll disappear around corners. She'll whisper, Did you hear that? She signs texts with little ghost emojis. Yesterday she told the waitress, I'll have what he's having. Then quietly added, for all eternity. The waitress laughed. I almost that's not even a funny joke. I almost called an exorcist. So here's my question: Am I dating someone with an elite commitment to the bit? Or am I dating someone who realized after one month that my gullibility is the funniest hobby she's ever discovered? Because if it's a second one, I think I'm in trouble. Also, if she is a ghost, do I still have to pay for both movie tickets?

SPEAKER_03

Well, obviously, if the waitress is noticing her, I would assume, yeah, you would have to.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she's not a ghost.

SPEAKER_03

But that's funny though, because it's just like, first of all, where is Greg in all of this? Yeah. I want to know.

SPEAKER_01

I think he needs to start bringing him on dates.

SPEAKER_03

Greg is the main character here. Yeah. That's weird. No, I think she's just like really committed to the bit, but also it's like one of those things where it's like, yeah, you're taking it a little bit too far. Like, if you're a tour guide or something like that, like an actual tour guide or a historian, it's like, cool. Yeah, you can be committed to the bit. It's just like people that go to Mackinac Island and like they do stuff every now and again.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like the actors.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like the actors or whatever. That's fine. But like then after that, like go back to normality. Yeah, when you punch out, stop. Yeah, it's just like with me, customer service, you know? It's smile and what smile and a wave, boy, smile and wave, and then as soon as I clock out, nope, not anymore. Bye-bye. Pace out.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So I think she's just like, I don't know, if he's interested in her still after all that, I don't know. Because to me, if you're sitting here and you're doing like going to grave sites randomly and like just putting hands on graves and everything and smiling when I dropped the noodle. Um then she's still committed to the whole like eternity. And this used to be like this. The funeral was in 1908.

SPEAKER_02

Like, come on, man. Yeah, it would get old. Like, she ain't a ghost.

SPEAKER_03

She's just probably not interested in you, and she wants you to leave at this point for all eternity. That's the only that's the only bit that she wants you to like be away from is all eternity.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that could be too. She could be not interested in trying to get rid of him. Instead of, you know, just terrible way to do it, but you know, everyone's got their way.

SPEAKER_03

Instead of just saying, you know, I'm not interested, dude. Sorry. Sorry, bro. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, call yeah, say sorry, bro, and then give him a fist bump.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, give him a fist bump, be like, still friends.

SPEAKER_01

All right, yeah. Thanks for that. Uh great story. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Uh tell us more about Greg next time.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Have Greg write in the story.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Greg needs to write his side. Yes. She's not a ghost, she ain't interested in you, boy.

SPEAKER_01

That's all he writes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, literally. All right. Uh, you got anything else? Um, I don't believe so, other than the Liberty Lemonade was very refreshing. It was actually pretty good. I'll have to pick one up then. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

And that is by Arizona. Arizona, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It's the 250 year anniversary of America.

SPEAKER_01

250 years. All right, everybody. Thank you so much for listening. Bye, love you, shut up.
