Follow along with an open King James Bible as Brother Scott Evans teaches on the Biblical word, "Mystery."

I hope you enjoyed this episode of Brother Scott's Look in the Book, and most of all, I pray you learned from it and that it helped you dive deeper into God's word, which he places above his very name.
(Psalm 138:2 KJV) (2) I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

God gives us instruction on how to study our Bibles:
(2 Timothy 2:15 KJV) (15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Please do not only go by what I say, but do the work and study for yourself.
"Anything I can talk you into, someone else can talk you out of."

Hi! This is Brother Scott with another Truth Time Look in the Book!
This is part 29 in my series, Bible Key Words and Meanings A-Z.
All references are from the King James Bible.
I will be referencing quite a few verses, so perhaps take some notes as you listen.
We move on to the letter, M.
The word today is, "Mystery."

So, let's de-mystify the mystery, shall we?
Our apostle Paul wrote in
(2 Timothy 2:7)
Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

And what Paul has said and what we can glean understanding from, is chronicled in his 13 epistles, Romans through Philemon.

And one very important aspect we are to understand from God's word is from Paul's writings,
(Romans 11:25)
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

I had a Jehovah's Witness couple knock on my door and invited me to their Bible study.
I asked, "Does your church preach Christ according to the revelation of the mystery as we're instructed in
(Romans 16:25)
which says, Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

Does your church preach that?

The husband said, "We have never heard of that."
I said, "Well, there is a Bible study subject for you folks. Have a good evening."

So, are you asking yourself about now, "The mystery? What is that all about?"
I remember asking that same question many years ago.
So, instead of just brushing it off, what did I do?
The same thing you can do, and that is search the scriptures like the noble Bereans did to see if what Paul was preaching was true,
(Acts 17:11)
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

OK, let's go to
(1 Corinthians 2:7)
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
What does that mean?
Even before the creation of the heaven and earth written in Genesis 1:1, God, his Son, and the Holy Ghost ordained the Mystery, and kept it perfectly hidden and secret.
The next verse tells us why.
(1 Corinthians 2:8)
Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

The last thing Satan would have wanted to happen was to have God hold back his day of vengeance and wrath to save Saul of Tarsus, then give him mystery information concerning the free gift of salvation, and send him far hence unto the Gentiles,
(Acts 22:21)
And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

God knew if Satan had known about the mystery, Satan would not have entered into Judas Iscariot,
(Luke 22:3)
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

Because that led to Judas betraying Jesus which resulted in Christ's death on the cross which is what Satan desperately wanted to have happen.

So, what exactly is this mystery that Satan would have prevented if he  had known about it, and that he hates to this day?
Well, in a nutshell, it's the fact that mankind went from living under the law to living under grace.
(Romans 3:24)
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Law consists of being in bondage, for example, water baptism, asking for forgiveness, turning from sins, reciting the "sinner's prayer" as it's called, and many other works of the flesh in an attempt to obtain salvation.

Grace consists of being set free from the bondage of the law by believing and trusting in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ ALONE, key word being ALONE, for salvation. No works of the flesh necessary or required by God during the dispensation of grace we are living in now.

And praise the Lord for that!

Here are a few more example demonstrating the dichotomy between law and grace:

From having to be born again,
(John 3:3)
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God;
To being a new creature,
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

And something new cannot be something again, right?
Think about it.

From living under the doctrine that was to be followed in time past under covenant during Israel's rise
(Isaiah 60 verse 3)
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.;
To the doctrine that is to be followed now under grace during Israel's fall
(Romans 11:11 & 25)
I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

From salvation being of the Jews
(John 4:22)
Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.;
To salvation coming unto the Gentiles also, again
(Romans 11:11) mentioned earlier.

From salvation being based on Israel's faith which was conditional, meaning they could lose their salvation because it was based on their performance, and maintaining their salvation was dependent on their endurance
(Matthew 24:13)
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.;
To our salvation not being dependent on our continued good behavior because after trusting in the gospel of our salvation, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise
(Ephesians 1:13-14)
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
(Ephesians 4:30)
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption., and
(2 Corinthians 1:22)
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts

and, of course, God's seal cannot be broken.

From Jesus teaching commandment keeping through Israel's performance for their eternal salvation
(Matthew 19:16-17)
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.;
To being on this side of the cross, where Paul wrote that we are not under the law of commandment keeping but we are saved by grace through faith.
It's a free gift we are not required to work for.
(Acts 13:39)
And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
(Romans 4:5)
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
(Romans 6:14)
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
(Titus 3:5)
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; and
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast..

Also, see
(Ephesians 3:3)
(Ephesians 3:9)
(Colossians 1:26-27) and
(Colossians 4:3)
for further study.

Aren't we glad that we are no longer under the bondage of the law, but under the freedom of grace!
My prayer is that this lesson has cleared up the mystery revealed in the Bible so that it is no longer a mystery to you.

OK, that will do it for now.
Like the noble Bereans did with Paul’s messages, I urge you to search the scriptures to see if what I am teaching is true.
You can find that in Acts 17:10-11.
Also, prove all things.
1 Thessalonians 5:21.
And finally, please do not place confidence in what I say.
Psalm 118:8-9.
