On this week’s episode of The New Consent Narrative, Jilly Mcbane sits down with Elaine Newton, who recently accepted the position as new director of the MCVP! Elaine has been around on campus for some time, formerly serving as education specialist for the University of Utah’s Office of Equal Opportunity. Elaine has extensive experience working with people who’ve caused harm, particularly “respondents,” or individuals who have had a report made about their behavior. Jilly and Elaine discuss prevention, and how intervention with students about their behavior can be nuanced. It can stir up emotions, deep reflection, but ultimately prevent that same harmful behavior from happening again. Their discussion about Elaine’s work, her approach to education and her guiding philosophies is one you won’t want to miss! Further, Elaine pictures how working with people who’ve caused harm might look similar and/or different for her as director.
