00:02:07.706 --> 00:02:09.941 It's all, well, I don't have any money anyway, might as well share it around. 00:02:10.502 --> 00:02:14.070 But when we were in Wyom, me and Katie, we had just gotten married. 00:02:14.070 --> 00:02:15.121 We were brand nearly married. 00:02:15.121 --> 00:02:20.233 I was, I was 21, she was 22 and we had no money and we were raising support. 00:02:20.233 --> 00:02:21.423 We were domestic missionaries. 00:02:21.423 --> 00:02:22.526 We had like zero money. 00:02:22.526 --> 00:02:30.881 In fact, we had been raising support and we had exactly the amount of money that we needed coming in that would pay all of our bills. 00:02:30.881 --> 00:02:32.465 Like to the dollar almost. 00:02:33.165 --> 00:02:34.308 But we had decided early on. 00:02:34.308 --> 00:02:40.459 Both she and I were raised in families where we were encouraged to tithe or to give money away, to be generous. 00:02:40.459 --> 00:02:44.348 And you know, in the Bible uses this sort of the template is 10%. 00:02:44.348 --> 00:02:45.250 It's in the Old Testament. 00:02:45.250 --> 00:02:48.342 Jesus sort of says actually give everything. 00:02:48.342 --> 00:02:53.705 But whatever, we would use this 10%, this tithe number, and we wanted to do that when we got married rock. 00:02:53.705 --> 00:02:57.264 Hey, let's, we're going to keep that going and be givers and give away 10%. 00:02:58.347 --> 00:03:00.711 The problem was we didn't have any money to give away. 00:03:00.711 --> 00:03:11.270 If we gave away 10%, we would be, we would be 10% short of our bills, you know, paying our bills, and I'll never forget that first month our rent came due and we had. 00:03:11.270 --> 00:03:23.343 Our rent was $600 a month for a 600 square foot apartment, a tiny little I could see from one corner to the other corner in our apartment and it was not hard, and so it's like a dollar a square foot and we had to pay for that. 00:03:23.343 --> 00:03:28.524 You know, coming up in like, like in two days and we also had to give our tithe check way. 00:03:28.524 --> 00:03:34.025 We had to give away 10% and if we did, if we gave it away, we would have been $100 short of our rent. 00:03:34.025 --> 00:03:40.836 So the question was like raised for her and I like, should we pay our rent or should we give 10% to God and get, give it away? 00:03:40.836 --> 00:03:49.044 And all we kept coming back to is like we wanted to be people who were generous, so that, well, I don't know, when you're young you're kind of young and naive, maybe a little bit dumb like let's just go for it. 00:03:49.044 --> 00:03:58.140 So we wrote the check for $100 and gave it away and we were a hundred bucks short of our rent and with that, okay, lord, and we just want the dice roll, you know. 00:03:58.742 --> 00:04:03.502 And so we wanted to work that day and a buddy of mine his name is Dale, and Dale Lambert is his name. 00:04:03.502 --> 00:04:04.485 I'll never forget him. 00:04:04.485 --> 00:04:09.268 He was a few years older than I was and he was there and we came into work and he's like hey, man, how are you doing? 00:05:04.533 --> 00:05:07.031 Do you want to live in a world where nobody shares? 00:05:07.031 --> 00:05:11.187 We just kind of keep our own things, and then in that case I'm not going to share my stuff with you. 00:05:11.187 --> 00:05:15.151 Or do you want to live in a world where we all share things, and at least we try to. 00:05:15.151 --> 00:05:19.889 And of course they would say, oh, we want to share, you know, because it was better for them if I shared my things with them. 00:05:19.889 --> 00:05:25.875 And I often think about that, like, what kind of a world do you and I want to create and live in? 00:05:58.685 --> 00:06:01.995 Jesus is quoted in the book of Acts, in Acts 2035. 00:06:01.995 --> 00:06:05.495 He says it's more blessed to give than to receive. 00:06:05.495 --> 00:06:12.151 And so again, do we believe that's true or not, if it's more blessed to give than to receive, then let's be giver. 00:06:12.151 --> 00:06:15.026 Let's create a world where people are givers I love. 00:06:15.047 --> 00:06:19.170 In the Old Testament, god tells the people of Israel hey, I'm going to provide for you. 00:06:19.170 --> 00:06:27.187 In fact, I'm going to do it in this way I'm going to have bread sort of rain down from heaven, and you can collect enough for you to have that day, and I'll provide. 00:06:27.187 --> 00:06:29.113 Trust me, and you'll have enough every day. 00:06:29.113 --> 00:06:34.951 But here's what would happen If you gathered more than you needed and sometimes they were tempted to do so like that. 00:06:34.951 --> 00:06:43.572 I don't know if God's they would sort of have this mentality of scarcity and they weren't sure if God would provide, even though God had promised to provide and had provided every day prior to this. 00:06:43.572 --> 00:06:47.851 If they got nervous and they would gather more than they needed, then it would rot. 00:06:47.851 --> 00:07:03.254 And so they would gather and they would store it in their tents and it would rot, it would get full of maggots and it's like it's this incredibly true story about when we gather too much more than we need, then sometimes that stuff rots, and so, again, what kind of a world do we want to create?
