at the same time, you still want it to feel stretchy because for me, that's what makes me take action, right? I, and I've spoken about this before, when I invested in a 20 K program, I made the investment back one and a half times within eight weeks. Because I was motivated, okay. I paid in full, I was motivated to make this back, and I did, and then multiply that over years like that, turned into a multi six figure program. I think I made almost 300 k just from that program that I created in that program that I joined. So it was definitely an excellent return on investment. One of my clients actually got a new client two days after joining because she was in the head space of someone who had invested in herself and who just, she felt like she, she was worth investing in. And she really brought that energy to her next sales conversation and boom, she got a new client. It was amazing. Welcome to the Raising Your Business Podcast. I'm your host, Yael Ben Dahan, founder of CEO Mom Academy, mom of six, and lifelong reading addict. This podcast is here to empower moms to run their businesses and lives like the powerhouse CEO they are. I want you to believe that you can have the business success you desire. And be present with your family and to give you my best tips and strategies for how to make that happen. I'll be sharing the honest reality of balancing business and motherhood, biz models that work for you, marketing simplicity and the mindset of a CEO mom. Now let's dive in. Hello. Hello. Welcome back to the podcast and. Today we are tackling a question. I get a lot in my dms, how do I know if I'm actually ready for a mastermind? And as I've been talking about the CEO, I'm my mastermind a lot. And people have been like chatting with me about it in the dms and, via email. This is a really important question to ask because joining the wrong mastermind at the wrong time can be a waste of thousands of dollars and a precious time you don't necessarily have as a mom, but joining the right mastermind at the right time. Is a game changer. So today I'm breaking down exactly how to know if you're ready, what to look for, and the questions you should be asking before investing in any mastermind. Okay, no fluff, just real talk about what really matters. But before we dive in, quick heads up. I currently have six spots available in my CEO MOM Mastermind before the investment increases on April 10th. So after today's episode, if you think a mastermind might be right for you, and specifically one designed for moms who are scaling while raising their family. Slide into my dms with Mastermind and we can chat about whether it's the right. Fit. Okay. Or just drop your application in. The link is in the description. Drop your application. I'll get back to you within 24 hours and we can have a chat about whether the Mastermind is a good fit for you. Okay? Now let's get into today's topic. So let's start by getting clear on what a Mastermind actually is, because the term gets thrown around a lot these days and very often people. W wrongly rename something, a mastermind, when really it's basically a group program. So a true Mastermind is a group that offers a combination of brainstorming education, peer accountability, and support to sharpen your business and your personal skills. It's a space where members. Challenge each other to set strong goals and most importantly to accomplish them. And the key difference between a mastermind and other group programs is the emphasis on collaboration. While there might be some structures or themes, the real value comes from the community, the high level conversations, and the combined brain power of everyone in the room. And this is different from what I personally call mini minds. These are gonna be shorter programs with very specific focuses, and they can be great for a powerful injection of strategy and support. But they're not the same as a long-term mastermind relationship. And in my experience, both as a member of Masterminds and as a leader, the magic of a true mastermind is that the group becomes greater than the sum of its parts. And I can say with complete honesty that the incredible people in a well-curated mastermind are often worth the investment all by themselves. But how do you know if you are ready for that kind of investment? And how do you find the right one? And that's what we're gonna be diving into today. So let's start with how to know if you're actually ready for a Mastermind, because not everyone is, and that is completely okay. So the first sign is you've proven your business concept is viable. That means you've actually made money with your core offer, whether that's through a service, a product, a program, you've gotten results for clients, and there's a lot of demand for what you provide. And I see a lot of people joining masterminds while they're still trying to figure the. Just figure out their business idea. Or they haven't validated that people actually pay for it. And that is honestly, I think, the wrong stage for a mastermind. You're gonna get more value from a course or one-to-one coaching that helps you establish those fundamentals first. I. And I've actually had someone who came to my email, like she just she replied, she goes, I just feel really stuck. I have loads of ideas. I don't really know what direction I wanna go in. And she is right. That is probably not the right, that is probably not the right time to join a mastermind. A one-to-one intensive could be very helpful to help map out, your profitable superpower. Maybe buying a course that will help you do that, or or maybe a group program that's gonna help you, build your business foundation. But a mastermind is probably not gonna be the right place for you. The second sign is that you've hit some sort of ceiling with your current business model. So maybe you're fully booked with one-to-one clients and can't take on anymore, or maybe you've created a course but aren't really sure how to scale it. Or maybe you're making decent money working way too many hours and you're really just not sure where you can go from here. So when you've hit that ceiling, a mastermind can be perfect because you need strategic advice on how to break through to the next level and not just execute more of the same. And I think that a community plus a coach who will just combine to create that supportive system that will bring new ideas to the table and brainstorm back and forth with you, which is what our calls look like. In fact, on our last call, like one of my clients brought up a mindset issue she was having and then another one of my clients actually like mini coached her through that mindset using the stuff I had coached her through. So it was almost like. A grandchild, like a coaching grandchild in a way, because she was taking the stuff that I had coached her through. And she was like, well, what about, have you thought about this? Have you thought about that? And I was like, wow, that's really good. And she's like, yeah, you did this with me. I was like, oh, okay. And so, when you have that combination of a coach who can coach you strategically and also mindset wise, but also the community that can bring new ideas to the table. It's going to be really valuable for you when you've hit that kind of like, I just don't know where to go from here, ceiling. The third sign is that you're craving community with. Peers at your level. So if you're feeling a little bit isolated in your business or like maybe like none of your friends really understand what you're building, that is a strong indicator. You might benefit from a mastermind. But, and this is important, make sure the community is truly filled with peers. Because being the most advanced person in the room might feel good for your ego, but it won't help you grow. And being significantly behind everyone else can be intimidating and unhelpful. Although I will say that there are people at various levels in my programs. And nobody has ever been made to feel like they're just behind and like there's no point in them being there. Everyone always will gain something from it. And I've been, I prefer to be a small fish in a big pond, to be honest, because I find that really just gives me the place to grow. I've also been in masterminds where I almost outgrew the program and I found, I was coaching the, I found, I was coaching the clients and the mastermind and I was like. I could just have, I could just have my own right. So, you definitely wanna make sure it's at the right, it's at the right fit for you, at the right stage of business for you. The fourth sign is you have the capacity to implement, and this is huge for moms. So Mastermind is only gonna be valuable if you can act, actually implement the strategies that you learn. So if you're in a season with a newborn who doesn't sleep at all, and you're like I have no capacity for anything extra whatsoever or you're dealing with a major family transition, or you simply don't have the bandwidth, it might not be the right time. That being said, okay. If you have the right coach who is hello geared towards working, building your business as a mom, then this might be the perfect time to join a mastermind because she might be able to help you free up your time and find more capacity, right? So that's a great time to have that conversation with the coach which you can have with me right about whether this actually makes sense for you at this stage. So you wanna be really realistic about your implementation capacity over the next six to 12 months. So if it's very limited. Consider waiting or looking for a mastermind that specifically accommodates those limitations or will help you discover new capacity or, maybe change those limitations and find more time or find more support. However, it's which the CEO on Mastermind is very much geared towards. Okay. We are all for looking for ways to simplify things for you and allow you to make the same amount of money or much more money in the same amount of time or much less time. Okay. So. The fifth sign okay, is that you can avoid it without financial stress. So masterminds can range from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars and if investing should, would put a fi significant financial strain on your family or yourself, it's probably not the right time. So the Mastermind should be an investment that you can make confidently. Knowing that even if it takes you a few months to see the ROI, you're not gonna be stressed about your mortgage payment, right? Because financial stress is actually gonna block your creativity and your ability to implement. But at the same time, you still want it to feel stretchy because for me, that's what makes me take action, right? So if you have been nodding your head to at least four of these five signs, you're likely at a stage where a mastermind could be incredibly valuable for your growth. So second part is. What should a Mastermind provide for you and what to avoid? Okay, so not all masterminds are created equal, and as a mom, you need to be especially discerning about where you're gonna invest your limited time and money. So here's what a truly valuable mastermind should provide for you. Okay. First of all, you want strategic direction that is gonna be tailored to your specific situation. Okay? Generic business advice is everywhere, and much of it is free. You can ask chat GBT for help, honestly, right? But what makes a mastermind worth the investment is getting strategies customized to your unique business, your unique goals, your unique constraints, right? So, for example, in the CEO, my Mastermind, we're not just talking about how to scale in general, right? We talk about very specifically how to scale working 20 hours a week or less with your kids at home. The strategies are completely different, and that specificity is critical. The second is accountability and implementation support. So a good mastermind doesn't just give you ideas, it's gonna help you actually implement them. So this could be through regular check-ins, regular weekly calls, progress reports, direct feedback on your work. And as moms, we often have fragmented work time and countless distractions. So having structured accountability time or a place where you show up every week to fill people in on where you are and very specific feedback on your work. So you can take immediate action, right? So you can really just, like not be like, okay, yeah, that's great. Oh, this looks great, right? But very specific feedback about here's how you can, this is good, but here's how you can make it even better. That is what's gonna be the game changer for you. And so having that structured accountability will help ensure that you're making progress, even when life gets chaotic, which it inevitably will as a mother. Third a community on a community of peers who understands your reality, right? So the power of a mastermind is partly in the leader, but equally in the community. And you wanna be surrounded by people who get your challenges, can offer relevant perspectives and celebrate your wins. And for moms specifically, being in a mastermind where everyone else has unlimited work hours can be demoralizing. As someone who's experienced this, and also as someone who has friends who we've, I've chatted and talking about why they joined masterminds, why they left masterminds. you want peers who understand the juggle and can share strategies that actually work within those constraints. And fourth. Access to expertise beyond just the Mastermind leader, right? So great masterminds will offer, will often bring in subject matter experts for very specific topics, giving you access to multiple perspectives and skillset. And that is what I do. And I actually have, I'm bringing in a speaking coach. I'm bring, I bring in, I've brought in, uh, people to talk about finances, talk about YouTube, to talk about human design, right? Like I've brought in multiple experts because I am not an expert in everything. I'm never going to be, and I want my clients to have. Access to a vast range of expertise without having to join 17 other programs. Now let's talk about what to avoid, right? Those red flags, that signal that a mastermind might not be worth your investment. I would say beware of masterminds that promise like 10 x returns or make very specific income claims, right? These are often more focused on selling you than actually supporting your growth. Okay. So I will say I know that investing in the CEO of my Mastermind, is worth 10 x what you're gonna actually pay for it. I know that. I know that a hundred percent because the skills that you learn are not just gonna pay off when you're in the Mastermind itself, but it's gonna pay off like long term. And I have clients who still, like, I have clients who joined my program back in 2021, and they're like, we still use your quarterly planning strategy. Like, I'm like, I love that. They took what they learned there and they're still using it years and years later. So. I know that, but if someone's saying, join the Mastermind and I promise you, you'll get, a hundred, calls a month and you'll get a, you'll make a five to 20 K within, six weeks. I mean, maybe they can promise that, I don't know, but like, can they really promise that? I don't think anyone can promise anyone else that ever. So I would just really like. Do your due diligence about the leader to find out exactly what they're promising and how they promise you're gonna do this. I would also be very cautious of masterminds that are led by someone who built their business in a completely different life circumstance than yours. So if they've ever had to build while raising kids, they may not understand your unique challenges. And I will say I have hired coaches who are not parents. Okay. To learn specific skills. I will not join a mastermind led by someone who does not have children, because I just don't think that they would understand where I'm coming from. While they're very good at what they do, probably, I don't think that's the kind of container that is right for me. It is what it is. Okay. I would also avoid masterminds that the main benefit of it is in person. That might require extensive travel, if that does not fit your family situation. Because in-person events can be valuable a hundred percent. And I know that, and I've. Attended many in-person events. But if they're mandatory and they're disruptive to your family life, or the only value of the Mastermind is in showing up live, the cost might be higher than just the ticket price. And finally be wary of masterminds where the leader is running multiple large groups simultaneously. And I, to me, the value of a mastermind comes from personal attention and customized support. If the leader is spread too thin, you're not gonna necessarily get what you're paying for. So that is why my CEO, my mastermind is kept. I have it at. 20 or 25 people at most, I think ever I'm ever gonna have that many people in at a time because I wanna make sure that everyone can, like I wanna know everyone's business, like literally, right? I wanna get up in their business, but also know their business. And it's gonna, it's, I know that like from experience, it's hard for me to keep that level of more than that level of clients like in my head at all times, right? So. If you, someone's saying you're gonna get personalized support from me. But you end up, coming to every call. And if you remind them what your business is and what, where you're coming from and what you know, what you can and cannot do, then that's gonna be very, it's gonna be very hard for you to get a good, have a good experience. And, I know like when my clients come on, they're like, well, here's what I wanna do. And I'm like, well, but remember you said that you wanted to go to this event. Is this gonna fit in with your travel? Or remember you said you wanted to have another baby, like, is this gonna work out for you? So, that is the value of being in a mastermind with a coach who actually knows you. And if. The group is too big and she's running multiple gigantic groups at a time. I don't know if I would get, I don't feel like I would get the support that I wanted, and so I, I don't think I would join something like that. So. That is the second part. Now let's talk about the return on investment, because masterminds are not cheap, and as the CEO of both your business and your household, you need to make smart financial decisions. Okay? So the ROI of a mastermind is not just about making more money, although that's obviously important. It's gonna be about the overall value that it brings to both your business and your life. So here's how to calculate whether a mastermind is worth the investment for you. First consider the direct financial ROI. Okay, so if a mastermind costs$10,000, you should reasonably expect to make at least that much additional revenue as a result of what you learn and implement. Ideally more, but at the very least, make your money back. And like I said, you can make your money back in the first year, but then be using those skills over and over years later, like I personally celebrate that 20 k investment because it didn't just make me the money. In those eight weeks, but it made me more money down the line. So I'm very happy about that. I learned a lot. Okay. But you wanna obviously be realistic about the timeline because you may not see that return. In the first month or even the first three months. So a good rule of thumb is to expect to see ROI within six months if you're consistently implementing, for example. Okay. One of my mastermind clients invested 10 K and within three months had created and sold a new leveraged offer that bought in 15 K. Okay. That is a clear financial win, but another client took about five months to see financial returns and that is okay too, right? I have clients who, join my group, my, my group program. It was really a mastermind. Now that I look back at it, it really was a mastermind because of the structure that it was in within six months, by the time they left the program six months later, which was the duration of the program, they were booked out months in advance with five figure months. That was a very clear, I think they spent, I think it was$7,500 at the time. So very clear financial, ROI there. Okay. Secondly, you wanna calculate the time, ROI, right? A great mastermind should ultimately save you time by helping you create more efficient systems, make better strategic decisions, and avoid costly mistakes, right? As a mom, your time is incredibly precious, right? If a mastermind helps you make the same money or more while working fewer hours, that is a massive ROI. Even if a dollar amount doesn't change immediately. But it saves you time, your time, you cannot get back money you can always make back, right? So as an example when my clients my client Catherine, so when we mapped out her launch and she had this whole big plan for this big complicated challenge launch, and I was like, let's simplify it. We need to simplify this down. And she ended up having the simplest launch, having incredible conversion rate, and being able to be a completely present mom during the holidays, which cannot be overestimated. Okay? We have limited time with our kids. We wanna be present with them. So this is. A game changer, right? Being able to have the same launch with much less stress very low lift, and being able to be a present mom is that's what this whole program is all about. That's what the Mastermind is all about. Okay. Third, you also wanna consider the emotional or mental ROI, right? So building a business while raising kids can be isolating and overwhelming. The support the community, the confidence that you gain from a good mastermind and a good peer community has real value that is harder to quantify, but incredibly important. And one of my clients shared that just by having a place that you could talk openly about business challenges with people who understood her reality as a mom was worth the investment alone and the revenue increases were almost a bonus, right? But knowing that you can come back every week and be like. Here's what's going on, and oh my gosh, I'm sick and oh, now all my kids are sick. But I just got a new client and it feels like overwhelming and exciting, but also really, nerve wracking that is just so valuable. And again, with a community that knows you, is also valuable, not just a coach, but also a community. And finally, you wanna think about the long-term ROI, beyond the Mastermind itself, right? The connections, the skills, the strategies you gain, don't disappear when the Mastermind ends, and they'll continue paying dividends for years to come. And I still regularly refer to strategies I learned in Masterminds from years ago. I have maintained relationships with peers that have led to collaborations and referrals and friendships long after the formal program ended, right? So when calculating ROI, you wanna make sure that you're considering all these factors and not just the immediate financial return. A mastermind that helps you build a more sustainable, enjoyable business while honoring your role as a mom is worth far more than one. That just helps you make quick cash at the expense of everything else. So the last thing I wanna talk about is. The questions to ask before you join, right? So before joining any Mastermind, you should be interviewing the leader to an extent, just as much as they're interviewing you. This is gonna be a significant investment and you deserve to have complete clarity about what you're getting into. So here are specific questions that I think you should ask before joining any Mastermind. Okay? Especially as a mom with limited time. And I welcome these questions. Okay. I'm not gonna be the one to be like, my best clients join with asking any questions. And they're just like, yeah, I'm in, no problem. And then they never even ask me for coaching. They just are happy to be in my vibe. No, that's not how I work. Okay. So if you wanna ask me these questions, I'm happy to answer them. All right? I'm putting this out there'cause I'm happy to answer them. So the first is, what results have your past clients achieved, specifically those in similar circumstances to mine? So you wanna ask for concrete examples of clients who came in with challenges that are similar to yours and how they transformed. And if the leader cannot provide these examples at all, then that's gonna be a little bit of a red flag. Okay? The second question I would ask is, how much of your personal attention will I receive? So you wanna understand exactly how much direct access you're gonna have to the mastermind leader. Are they gonna review your work? Were they, are they gonna be present on all the calls or most of the calls, or will you mainly be interacting with other team members? And which is not to say that they shouldn't bring other team members on, or they shouldn't have support coaches. We have our pod funnel coach Tara, who is incredible, right. And she helps them with their pod funnel strategy, but. If someone is basically outsourcing all the coaching to somebody else, then you're not really getting them right. Third, what does the time commitment actually look like? So get really specific about call schedules or implementation time or any travel requirements. So as a mom, you're gonna need to ensure this fits within your actual available time and not some fantasy version of your schedule. Fourth, what would you could, I would ask what your policy is for maternity leave or life circumstances that come up. So life happens, especially when you have kids. How does the Mastermind accommodate maternity leave or sick children, or school holidays, family emergencies. And the answer to this question will tell you a lot about whether they really, truly understand the reality of building business as a mom. Now, caveat here, no business owner worth their salt is gonna be like, okay, you can just pause indefinitely, and come back whenever you feel like it. But I do offer pauses specific pauses for maternity leave because. I work with moms, okay? So if you wanna have a baby, we're not gonna let that get in the way of your business. We're not gonna let that get in the way of you growing your business before and after having your baby. So, but I am and I am gonna give you a maternity leave, pause time because that's how mom life works. And you feel like my kids are all sick and I can't attend the calls, then, you submit your question beforehand and you'll get the replay right away. So all this is going to be so, so valuable to you to understand exactly how they can accommodate the ups and downs of motherhood. And that's why I've structured my mastermind in a very specific way. There's a mix of live, asynchronous support to account for all potential schedules. Fifth is who else is gonna be in the Mastermind. So you wanna understand the mix of industries, the business stages, and life circumstances of your potential peers. The mastermind experience is gonna be heavily influenced by who else is in the room. So you wanna make sure that like it's the right people, right? And not in a snobby sort of way, but just in a can. They, do they understand me sort of way. Okay. And finally, trust your gut. Okay? If something feels off during your conversation, pay attention to that feeling. I have ignored my intuition before when joining masterminds or hiring coaches, and I have regretted it. Okay. The right mastermind leader is going to welcome these questions and answer them openly and honestly. They're gonna be just as concerned about making sure you're a good fit as you are, and if you feel any sort of pressure or avoidance of these questions. That is a clear sign, I think, to look elsewhere. Okay, so let's wrap this up. If you take nothing else from this episode, remember these key points. First of all, timing is everything with Mastermind. So joining at the right stage in your business in life is crucial for getting real value from the experience. So be honest with yourself about whether now is truly the right time or if the Mastermind will help make this the right time. Okay. Secondly, not all masterminds are created equal. As a mom, entrepreneur, you need a container that specifically understands and accommodates the reality of building a business while raising kids. So don't try to force yourself into a model designed for people with completely different life circumstances. Okay. The third is that ROI isn't just financial, you wanna calculate the full return on investment, money, time, emotional support, long-term value when deciding if a mastermind is worth it for you. And finally, do your due diligence. Okay? Ask the tough questions, trust your intuition, and make sure any mastermind you join.
