How Exercise Becomes My Built-In Habit
Jul 15, 2023

Our brain is operating in a way that produces thousands of thoughts and idea every day.  I am quite mindful about to what extent I have examined or verified any of those ideas to be able to claim this is within my belief or practice system.  At this stage of my life, I hold myself accountable and honor my own words. After almost three  years, I finally reach this self-validation point of making a statement that can stand the test of time : ‘ exercise is my built-in habit'.   I feel it’s worthwhile to share my ever-evolving  fitness journey with everyone that is no sugar-coating and non- gimmick .

In this episode, I  recalled and detailed , over the span of 3 years,  how  my workout routine  is evolving into this current balance look : Three  days zumba , One day body attack, One day body pump, then  comes the final touch to be unwind at the end of  a  week: body balance.  Particularly about body pump which once challenged me the most,   I am dying to share  Bobbi brown, the living legend , a multihyphenate of the highest order,  what she said in an podcast :  really the only regret I had in my life is that I did too much aerobic not enough weights . no.I am not even kidding,  because back then we thought the way you know, be healthy , is aerobic, and you know what, it’s not true, for everybody listen of  certain age, it’s the weights,  it change the pain of your body , all of that, do weights,  if you haven’t started , start now. I instantly grativates towards her charisma  (In my way of doing weights which is more of like doing 'light',though ), and I know I will be lifetime committed to doing body pump, even slowly increase kg of my bar over time . What also absolutely evolves  is my fitness goal. I used to say I have one and only one goal which is to keep fit. For a long time, it stays on a surface level. I mean, do I like to sustain ideal waist size, and look instantly 10 years younger every time I finish workout, a big strong firm yes!  But the more time I invest in workout, the deeper level of meaning it reveals in different areas my life. I want to break it down three aspects:

First for my overall wellness and well-being.  I am always  determined to live a wholesome and joyful lifestyle, and exercise will help me achieve that . But as you can see, it’s an evolving journey over time not over night.  I have been very carefully and thoughtfully nature this habit from the get go, because it requires so much  actual strength and inner strength  to stick through every day we talk about. I mean I still have this fear this day what if I lose this strength one day ? That’s why I put more emphasis on consistency and continuity nature of exercise as a built-in habit rather than imposing  high standard on my workout performance.

Second  for my personal growth :  my exercise routine builds both  physical strength  and resilience in me , period. Every time I am on the brink  of skipping a session but got it done anyway,   one thing I want to say is I always feel such  better, always. It either save my crappy day (if it’s crappy day ) or illuminate my uneventful day . The second thing  I know is I just deposit one more dollar into my resilience-building bank account , which is subtle  but far-reaching impacts of exercise on us.

Exercise also contributes to  my creative pursue.  Exercise is not my purpose but serves my purpose. That’s how my fitness goal keeps evolving into attaining  longevity. I think that’s ultimate manifestation of me reconciling  with myself and the world, because  I appreciate this life so much, and I want to  stay physical alive and healthy as long as possible.
