Following the Breadcrumbs: How Self-Trust Transforms Your Path

Jessica Hook Season 2 Episode 1

Have you ever felt a random spark of inspiration that seemed to come from nowhere? That quiet nudge pulling you toward something that makes absolutely no logical sense? Those aren't accidents or distractions—they're the breadcrumbs guiding you toward your most authentic life.

After returning from a break during eclipse season, I'm diving deep into why self-trust is the missing ingredient in so many women's lives. We've spent years—sometimes decades—disconnecting from our own desires through people-pleasing, caregiving, and prioritizing everyone but ourselves. Then we wonder why we feel lost when asked what we truly want.

The truth about purpose is rarely what we expect. It's not some lightning bolt revelation that dramatically changes everything overnight. And it's certainly not limited to career choices or income-generating activities. Your purpose unfolds through tiny moments of curiosity, through random interests that light you up for seemingly no reason, through the courage to follow an impulse without needing to know where it leads.

What if roadblocks aren't signs you're on the wrong path, but precisely what you need to heal limiting beliefs and grow? What if the goal you've been fixated on was never the point—just the catalyst to get you moving in a new direction? When you embrace the winding path with trust instead of resistance, synchronicities multiply, opportunities align, and life takes on a magical quality that can't be manufactured through force or control.

The word "enthusiasm" literally means "of God." Those sparks of excitement are divine communication, your soul's GPS guiding you home to yourself. Each time you honor these subtle nudges with action—even tiny steps—you're saying yes to co-creating with something greater than yourself. Your vibration rises, your energy shifts, and the universe responds accordingly.

What intuitive hit have you been ignoring? What seemingly random interest keeps tapping on your shoulder? I invite you to trust that inner knowing today—it might just be the first step toward the life that's been waiting for you all along.

Speaker 1:

Hello, welcome back. Holy moly, it has been a minute. It feels so good to be back on here. It's so interesting how the astrology and the transit just really truly affect things and I know that this is not what this podcast episode is about today, but given that we are in the second eclipse season of the year, I think it's worth mentioning. But I took a major break in March from both producing content as well as consuming content, and the major impetus for that was that March lunar eclipse and partial solar eclipse that was happening and it just completely wiped me out on so many levels and maybe I'll do a separate episode about that another time. But it's really fascinating how now, through this second eclipse that's happening this year, you know that inspiration to create again is coming back and I feel just so lit up and excited about that.

Speaker 1:

And wherever you are right whether you're following the transits or you're into astrology or not just a little tidbit and this kind of is a great segue into today's episode all about just trusting yourself and following those nudges is that this week specifically, there is an energy nudging you to take action, and eclipses are always about major change, major transformation, so you can lean into whatever is coming up for you in your life, but trusting that and taking action, even if it is so small, so that is perfect. So let's just dive right into a message that is just like banging me over the head and I feel like I need to share it. And I am, you know, taking some of my own advice and also just showing up and following those signs and nudges to take action. And this episode is all about self-trust. It is all about the way in which we kind of get nudges and quickly push them down and why I want that to stop today. So, before we get started, I just want to invite you to just take a nice deep breath in through your nose and exhale and just, really, like, allow yourself to be, you know, really grounded into this conversation today, maybe for you even setting an intention, or maybe that intention is as small as simply being open to fully receive whatever message you are meant to receive from this episode. Right, we all hear things, listen to things, right, and our little kind of like internal antenna, you know, pop up because something is resonating with us, and that is the simplest way to just start to notice what is wanting to come alive within you. That is the simplest way just to attune yourself to. Oh, what is calling me, what is nudging me forward?

Speaker 1:

So often, when I speak with women, they don't know what they want, right? We've spent so many years, whether it be people pleasing, whether it, you know, simply not even from like a terrible place, but just putting others before us, putting our kids before us, right. Some of these things that just you know, kind of naturally happen, obviously when becoming a mother, just getting older and having different responsibilities and greater responsibilities, as we quickly put our own needs and desires, you know, away or on the back burner for a little while. And again, there's no judgment there whatsoever. And now that we get to a point where we're like, oh, there's something missing in my life, or I just don't feel as happy as I want to feel, I don't feel as joyful, I don't feel as alive, I don't feel, you know, insert whatever adjective is coming up for you. And then it's, you know, we kind of go on this deep dive of searching, this deep dive of what is it that I want, what is it that would fulfill me? You know, we're looking for this big, massive thing to bonk us over the head and you know, then we're like, yes, that's it, and now I'm going to take action. And this is really, I think, like the biggest message that I want to share today is that it rarely works that way. So if you haven't had the big idea, the big inspiration, the big aha moment, you know, bonk you on your head, it is okay. The chances that that is going to happen are quite slim because life just doesn't always unfold that way. There is way more for us to learn and grow and experience and we have to kind of do it on this winding path just as our life unfolds. And again, yeah, sometimes there is like a major moment or a major event that happens in our life that completely changes the trajectory for us. But most of the time it's like we're just whittling away, going through the motions every day, and then we look back and only in hindsight can we see the way in which the path has unfolded for us individually. So, again, as you're kind of listening to this conversation, simply noticing within you, kind of listening to this conversation, simply noticing within you what is coming up, there is so much power in that right. So if now you're like, okay, I don't need to look for some big aha moment.

Speaker 1:

I think another thing that really kind of disrupts or derails the conversation for a lot of us is this whole idea around purpose. I need to find my purpose. What is that? What should I be doing? And the second part of purpose is it's so in today's modern day human society, the idea of purpose is so closely tied to career or job, where, in fact, purpose is so much deeper, right, like if you think, like, our soul came here for some purpose. It wasn't just about some job that you have or a way in which you make money. Yes, we live in a society that requires an exchange of money, and I'm not denying or trying to sugarcoat any of that.

Speaker 1:

However, when we let go of oh, I, you know, really feel, let's just use a very like creative or artistic kind of example, it's like, oh, I really feel called to, you know, create music. I'm just I don't. When we're so tied to, well, that can't be my purpose. Because how am I going to make money? Right, I have kids. I'm not going to go join a band. I'm not going to go on tour, I'm not going to become some famous musician. Maybe you don't even want that, right, you can see how quickly you block yourself, right, when you love music, right, you're like I'm just feeling drawn to do this, and then you don't, right, because all of these buts and what ifs and what you should be doing instead completely cloud that idea, and that is not the point.

Speaker 1:

We must begin to let go of what we think the goal is, or what we even think the goal should be, and I want to even go a step farther, even though this can feel really tricky. We need to let go of what we even want the goal to be right. That's like the power of surrender, really the power of allowing something so much bigger than us to move through us in the way that is best for our highest good. Okay, and I, that's like a whole other rabbit hole I could go down, so I'm not gonna kind of stay there. But, truly, where is the inspiration or those nudges coming from, right when we think of? Where is the inspiration or those nudges coming from right when we think of? Huh, I'm having this like creative thought, and it's so random, right, like why is that coming up for me?

Speaker 1:

But those thoughts, those ideas, those inspirations, those nudges, those little things that swell up in you, sometimes seemingly out of nowhere, are your path forward. They are spirit source, the creator, the divine goddess. Whatever you want to connect with, or whatever you do connect with, it is how. That is that energy and that wisdom and, again, your own soul's path unfolding. That is the communication coming to you and it is your purpose to act. That is your purpose Because through the action, right Through the self-trust, we are saying yes, I hear you, yes, I feel this connection to you and I am trusting not only myself, but I am trusting the highest path forward. I am trusting the bigger plan that I can't fully see, but I feel so intrinsically connected to and through that, anything and everything is possible. And when you can do that and when you can let go of the goal and just put one foot in front of the other, take the small action. It doesn't matter what. It is right Like you have an idea to write a book, you don't have to sit down and write 300 pages right now.

Speaker 1:

Maybe you simply start brainstorming, maybe you simply start researching how you could self-publish something right, like a variety of ways, a variety of things that you can do right now to simply follow the nudge. And as I'm sharing all of this. I'm noticing that I'm you know, I'm even getting caught up on kind of sharing some of these big ideas, right, like writing a book. But do not underestimate those smaller nudges, those much smaller ideas and insight. Again, whatever is coming up for you Maybe it is simply a desire to finally get in better shape, right, to put a renewed focus on your health, and sometimes it's as simple and this is like a one that's fresh in my mind right now the health thing.

Speaker 1:

It's not even some like firework idea, it's just like, oh, I'm just feeling called to focus on my health in a new way. I'm for me personally. I'm feeling called to just do some more holistic things. As I'm getting a little bit older, I want to just feel my best as often as possible. Right, it's not some big major shift, it's a curiosity. Your shift it's a curiosity. I think that that is such a great way to put kind of these nudges and these things like simply following what you feel curious about and not underestimating that Again, it's so easy to just look to these like bigger ideas or insights, but it's what you want to lean into, what you feel curious about.

Speaker 1:

That packs so much juice. And I do want to just add a tiny little point here. If you are into astrology, you can often look to the transits and see where certain transits are happening in your birth chart. So, bringing up the health thing, virgo is in my sixth house, which holds like health and well being, and so it's really interesting that, you know, I have just kind of felt this renewed focus on my health and, oh, hey, that makes sense right now with the transits that are currently happening. So that can also just be another way to look at.

Speaker 1:

Okay, this is coming up. I wonder why, right? Not that you need astrology to validate whatever intuitive hits you're coming up regardless of anything. Just trust yourself first and foremost. But again, it's just kind of like a fun little way to say oh, that's why this is coming up. I am going to explore that right now. It's just kind of an extra little piece that you can kind of lean into and as you begin to approach self-trust in this way, this is what sets you up on the path, this is what allows you to keep moving.

Speaker 1:

And again, when we're so focused on the goal, it just feels really scary, right? But what if you said yes and you're like you know what? I am open to the possibilities that are available to me. Right, working on that connection and being open to whatever possibilities, that alone is huge. And then this is where the process becomes so important and the self-trust and the healing journey are all intertwined, because as you take a step, as you say yes, you're going to either move forward, maybe kind of easily, maybe it's going to feel really good and light, maybe something's going to just like work out for you in your favor, wonderful, or maybe you're going to hit a roadblock. Now, what if, with that roadblock? What if that roadblock is exactly what you need, right?

Speaker 1:

We often think like, oh, I hit a roadblock. It must not be what is meant to be for me. That is not true, right, embrace the roadblock. I know that that sounds so crazy and hard, and I get that. Sometimes it's hard and I get that sometimes it's painful. Trust me, I know it, I totally get it. Know it, I totally get it.

Speaker 1:

But when you can approach or recognize everything as truly being there for a reason, and that reason being to support your highest path forward, it like cuts the sting of it a little bit, right? So now, okay, what is this roadblock showing me, right? Is it showing me something about myself? Is it showing me, maybe, a belief that I've had about myself right? This like self-awareness piece is so key, always here and always right, every day. Because when you can slow down and actually have the chance to hold space for the experiences and the things that are happening, not just to you but for you, you can open yourself up to.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I see how I've been holding this belief that you know, maybe finding a new job was going to be really hard for me, or that I just wouldn't be able to find something that I want right. And now you get to question that Is that true? Where did that belief come from? Right, and we all know that our thoughts create our beliefs and our beliefs create our reality. It is literally that simple. And our beliefs create our reality. It is literally that simple. So this roadblock had to happen so that you could rewire that belief. So now you can rewire. Oh, I used to believe that this was hard because maybe that was the story that you grew up hearing, right, or something happened or whatever it may be for you. But what is true today? It doesn't have to be the same story. You have the power to rewrite your story. And in rewriting your story you heal, you grow, everything shifts. And then now you healed that roadblock and you're moving along and you're feeling really good, even though maybe that kind of knocked you on your butt a little bit.

Speaker 1:

And then an opportunity opens up, right, wonderful, beautiful. You know, maybe this opportunity feels more aligned, maybe it doesn't. Whatever it may be, it's constantly going to be this ever evolving, moving spiral of experiences for growth and I believe that that's the ultimate purpose. It's really to see what we can do as co-creators, what we can create. Spirit implants the idea, it implants the inspiration, it implants the nudge, it implants the spark. And then we are the co-creators by hearing it, trusting it, taking action right Now. What are we learning and growing from it? And we move on and it just becomes this really beautiful process. And when you can really embrace that and be in the flow of that and be surrendered to, I don't know how this is going to work out.

Speaker 1:

This goal or I should say, like where I'm going may not match the goal that I had, but sometimes the goal that you have simply is there because it just gets you on the path right. We're in eclipse season right now the trajectory of your life, the goals that you had, if you were to get really quiet and still you could be like, oh my gosh, that doesn't even feel aligned with me anymore, I actually don't even want that anymore. Right? And maybe you wanted to open a bakery and that was just like your goal for years and years and years. And now it's eclipse season and you're like, oh my gosh, that just I love to bake, but that just doesn't fit right. And that is okay, because sometimes and often, the goal was never what it was right, it's never what we think it is. And when we can surrender to the goal, we can actually show up without all of the blocks that keep us stuck right. And that is like one of the best ways to move forward. If we're just like I don't know where this process and where this journey is going to take me, just like I don't know where this process and where this journey is going to take me, but I'm just going to keep showing up and I'm going to use my own internal guidance system, my own body wisdom, my own intuition as the compass for what feels good, what doesn't feel good. And literally, let it be that simple you feel excited and inspired, you take action and you can't hesitate.

Speaker 1:

I love this story that I recently heard Elizabeth Gilbert, who wrote Eat, pray, love Share, on a podcast I had listened to, and she tells this story about how she is working, or she's had this idea for a book and you know, I think that she's had the idea, or she had had the idea for quite a few years and just never really did anything with it due to, you know, other life circumstances. And then she goes on to explain how she is a speaker on a panel with author, goes on to explain how she is a speaker on a panel with author Anne Pritchett and her and Anne become really good friends and they end up kind of, you know, talking a lot throughout, you know, after the speaker series, and Anne is also writing a book and they're just going back and forth checking in on one another, seeing how the other one is doing with their book and et cetera. And I guess Elizabeth finally says Anne, I don't think I've ever even asked you about the book and what you're writing. And Anne says, yeah, why don't you tell me first? And Elizabeth Gilbert shares that she's actually been really struggling with writing her book and she doesn't know what happened. She really had, you know, a lot of the details kind of laid out, but she just can't seem to write the book. And she, you know, goes on to share the idea of her book. And I apologize, I'm not doing this story total justice, because I'm missing a lot of details, because I don't want to make this too long of a story, but basically her and Anne are writing the exact same book and Elizabeth Gilbert goes on to joke that, you know, when she hugged Anne after the speaker series, she basically passed the idea on to Anne and then Anne acted on it. Right, anne like got into motion right away and started writing this book. And it's really interesting.

Speaker 1:

And after I listened to that story from her, it really made me think about where our ideas come from and whose ideas are they. Anyway, you know, are they ideas that are meant to, you know, be shared in the world and if we don't take action on them, they will move on to the next person that may. And again, this is not something that we need to fear or worry about, but just simply, again, trusting that something isn't right for us in the moment, we're not going to act on it right. We learn something isn't right for us in the moment, we're not going to act on it. Right, we learn something from that. We grow again, fostering just more self awareness, understanding, getting into that alignment and being open to whatever is coming our way and, again, just practicing that self trust.

Speaker 1:

All right, the last little piece that I do want to share about this is the more you trust yourself, the more you can take time to really kind of get still and get quiet and go inward and connect. And you know and I say I don't even mean that, I don't even mean to say that in like oh, you need to meditate and be in this like constant state of like presence and stillness in order to act Like. I know that each and every one of you listening have something right now that you're like oh, I should just be doing this, I really want to do this. And sometimes we don't do it because it just makes it makes zero logical sense and that's why we push it down and we put it on the back burner because it's like what does that have to do with anything in my life right now? Right, please trust that.

Speaker 1:

And I say that because, again, that connection piece, that self-trust, that taking action says, yes, I hear you, yes, I feel connected to you, yes, I'm trusting not just myself, but this greater power that is living through us, right, that is moving through us. When you do that, it instantly raises your vibration, it instantly makes you feel happier, it instantly makes you feel like a magical unicorn. Or maybe it won't instantly make you feel that, but the more you do that, I promise, the more magical you feel. And the more magical you feel and the more you can raise your vibration and go through life in that state, the more you will experience synchronicities and just amazing opportunities coming into your life more joy, more happiness, more fun, just I don't know miracles, whatever other words you want to use and it really becomes very clear how much your energy matters. And again, there are a variety of ways to do this, but I find that the self-trust piece is one of the simplest ways to do this. The word enthusiasm literally means of God. So when you feel enthusiastic about something, when you feel excited, again inspired I know I sound like a broken record, but I really just want to hopefully nudge you and push you and inspire you to take action as well, even on those little things.

Speaker 1:

I had this really lovely opportunity come into my life earlier in the summer and it had nothing to do with anything that I thought I was going to be doing and it was just so delightful and I think it was because I was just really in this really heightened energetic state and really just open to receiving that, because I had been trying to, but because I was completely surrendered and because I, yeah, was just doing a lot of things that I found so freaking enjoyable and I didn't care why and I was just like getting the nudges and taking action and trusting it and not worrying about where it would lead, and it opened up some pretty fun things.

Speaker 1:

So I hope that that is the tiniest, last little detail, last little push. You need to start trusting yourself, to start listening to those nudges, to just start taking action on whatever lights you up. That is the secret sauce that not only will bring you more joy, it will bring you more aliveness and radiance and confidence and abundance and all of the lovely things. So, again, so wonderful to be back here with you. I am going to keep posting new episodes as long as I feel inspired and called and nudged to do so. I'd love to hear from you. I'd love to hear what is going on in your world, if you feel like sharing, and I hope you have a beautiful day and I'll see you next time.
