You have the power to shift gears in your mindset, to detox those entrenched thoughts. The trick isn't to keep wrestling with the surface issues. It's to pull those weeds out from their roots, clear the field of those limiting self-perceptions once and for all. If you want to break the mold of traditional pharmacy and healthcare, you are in the right place. Welcome to the Pivoting Pharmacy with Nutrigenomics podcast. Part of the Pharmacy Podcast Network.
Speaker 1:Here's a little truth bomb. We're all unique, down to our DNA, so it's no wonder we react differently to the same medications, foods and environment. Here's a million dollar question how can you discover exactly what your body needs, which medication, what foods or supplements and which exercises are right for you? How can you manage chronic conditions like diabetes without more medications? How can you lose weight and keep it off? How do you tap into your genetic blueprint so you can stop surviving and start thriving in health and life? That is the question, and this podcast will give you the answer. I'm your host, dr Tamar, lawful doctor of pharmacy. Let's pivot into genomics and bring healthcare to higher levels.
Speaker 1:Hello and welcome to Pivoting Pharmacy with Nutrigenomics. I'm Dr Tamar, lawful doctor of pharmacy and certified nutritional genomics specialist. Let's take a moment to get a bit personal, shall we? I had this heart-to-heart chat with a client recently, someone who's been on this roller coaster of weight loss for what feels like forever. She's tried every diet you've heard of and probably some you haven't Keto, done Intermittent fasting, been there, you name that diet. She's given it a go.
Speaker 1:And yet here we were, feeling like we were at a standstill. She was teetering on the edge of just throwing in the towel, you guys. Still she was teetering on the edge of just throwing in the towel, you guys. As we dove deeper into our conversation, peeling back layer after layer, it dawned on us both the real challenge wasn't so much about her diet or how many times she hit the gym. The true battle it was a narrative she had running in her head, these deep-seated beliefs weighing her down. She carried this conviction that her genetics were to blame for her struggles, that she was somehow predestined not to fit into the mold of what she saw as a healthy body. This realization was a game changer. It's like we uncovered this critical piece of the puzzle that had been missing all along. It became crystal clear that what needed cleansing wasn't just her diet, but her mental and emotional pathways.
Speaker 1:Too Many of us are stuck in this same cycle, battling these ingrained beliefs without even realizing they're what's holding us back. It's as if there are this whole other level of detox we need to tap into, the kind that digs deep into our psyche and sweeps out those cobwebs of self-doubt and resignation. That's where the real transformation begins. You know, I see this all the time, and maybe you do too. We get obsessed with counting calories, carbs and how many steps we hit on our watches, pouring all our energy into these metrics. Yet how often do we look inward to the thoughts twirling around upstairs? I'm talking about those sneaky little beliefs that hold court in the back of our minds I just can't lose this weight, I'm too old for this, or healthy living, not with my genes.
Speaker 1:Now pause and think about it. Could these pesky thoughts, not your actual efforts, be the real bottleneck in your journey towards wellness? They usually spring up from stories we've been told growing up, the cultural scripts we've been handed and those personal life moments that stick with us. Slowly but surely, they weave themselves into our worldview, and more often than not, they're nothing but roadblocks. If any of this feels familiar, it's quite possible you've tried to tough it out right, armed with nothing but pure grit, you hop from one diet plan to the next, hunting for that elusive silver bullet, but you just end up circling back to the starting point.
Speaker 1:That cycle isn't just about the diets that drop off. It's also about riding a carousel of self-critique and missing out on genuine chances to shift the gears of your health. But hey, here's the uplifting part this cycle it's breakable. You have the power to shift gears in your mindset, to detox those entrenched thoughts. The trick isn't to keep wrestling with the surface issues. It's to pull those weeds out from their roots, clear the field of those limiting self-perceptions once and for all. So what happens when you start this mental housecleaning? You might just find yourself managing stress like a pro, making choices with sharp clarity and embracing the powerful belief that your health is in your hands yes, genes and all Ready to flip those beliefs on their head and carve out new pathways to last and change.
Speaker 1:Let's dive into the nitty gritty of kickstarting this mental refresh. I want you to imagine that your mind is like a garden. It's time to do some weeding and planting to bring it back to its glory. How do you get started? There are three tools you can put into your gardening toolkit. There's mindfulness meditation, cognitive restructuring and expressive writing.
Speaker 1:So with mindfulness meditation, think of it as giving your brain a mini vacay. You just have to take five to 10 minutes of your day just to sit quietly, breathe and notice your thoughts especially the party poopers that tell you this is too hard or I can't Now generally guide those thoughts towards something a bit more cheering like I'm going to give this all I got. I'm not going to act like. This was easy for me. When I first started using mindfulness meditation. My mind was meditating on everything the cars driving by outside, the sound of the AC, the errands I had to do. How much time did I have left before the baby's nap was over. Needless to say, this wasn't meditation at all. Focusing was extremely difficult for me at first, but with practice those race and thoughts diminished, and they will for you as well.
Speaker 1:The second tool you can use is cognitive restructuring. Think of this as your chance to turn into a thought detective. A therapist could be your guide here, offering immense help, but it's also something you can start by yourself. Begin by putting those negative thoughts under the microscope. Are they rooted, in fact? Let's take two common examples.
Speaker 1:I always fail when I try new things or nobody really appreciates me. Now hold those thoughts up to the light. For the first, consider past instances where you succeeded or even partly achieved your goal. This shows that always isn't accurate. For the second thought, which was nobody really appreciates me. Reflect on moments when others have shown appreciation or kindness towards you, even if they seem minor. This helps to undermine the sweeping assertion that nobody values you, reinforcing the perspective with concrete examples of being valued. Perhaps you could shift the thought I always fail when I try new things to I have learned and grown from every experience and there have been successes along my journey. This acknowledges progress and resilience, rooting your mindset in the reality of personal development. Or perhaps change nobody really appreciates me to I'm recognized and valued by those around me in various ways, some of which might be subtle but are significant nonetheless. This adjustment draws attention to the actual instances of appreciation you've encountered, fostering a mental space grounded in acknowledgement and value. This process is about challenging and transforming those negative thoughts into ones that aren't just sunnier but also true and solid, creating a mental environment where positivity is based on reality, not just wishful thinking.
Speaker 1:So that's cognitive restructuring, and then a third tool in your toolkit is expressive writing. You get those feelings out onto paper. You know how your closet gets all messy and packed with stuff until it's bursting at the seams. Well, writing out your feelings is pretty much the same thing, but for your headspace. Just picture every word you scribble down as you pulling out old shoes and shirts, deciding what to keep and what to chuck. So when you're journaling, it's like you're having a one-on-one chat with all those pesky emotions and thoughts that throw you off balance. One chat with all those pesky emotions and thoughts that throw you off balance, the ones messing with your groove. It's great because writing helps. You Just put it out there, straight from your brain onto something you can actually see. You visualize it. You may even end up digging out stuff you didn't know was hiding in there, like finding an old photo or a lost sock. It was there all that time you didn't realize it. You might bump into things about yourself you didn't even notice before. It's like one moment you're venting about something annoying and the next you're figuring out why it bugs you in the first place. And the more you do this expressive writing, this journaling, the better it gets.
Speaker 1:Regularly, writing out your feelings can become your go-to move for when you're feeling all jumbled up inside. It sort of hits the slow motion button on your brain, giving you time to untangle all your feelings. So stick with it and basically you'll be setting yourself up for some next level peace and clarity restructuring. All right, friend, choose one of these strategies to start with mindfulness, meditation, cognitive restructuring or expressive writing. Remember, perfection is not the goal. Showing up for yourself consistently is Now.
Speaker 1:Take a tiny action today. Identify just one limiting belief that's been acting as a speed bump on your wellness road. Write it down. Then flip the script and write a powerful, positive comeback right next to it. This is your first leap into mental and emotional decluttering. For instance, if you're telling yourself I'm too old to start getting in shape, the ship has sailed on my best years and improving my health now just feels pointless. Let's turn that around to.
Speaker 1:Every single day is a golden chance to boost my well-being. Age is not the boss of me, and my body is an amazing thing that can embrace positive change at any life chapter. From this moment on, I choose actions that fortify my health, vitality and fitness. It's never, ever too late to start feeling better and stronger. See, it's truly that simple, friend. Let's begin rewiring those thoughts. That's exactly what we help you do at Life Balance, whether you are in our group coaching or self-paced do-it-yourself in her Glow Health and Wellness program.
