Episode 29: Adam McNamara; The physical and mental strength of being a jockey

Season 1 Episode 31

Adam McNamara rode 138 winners on the flat, the highlights of which were the Ebor in 2016 and the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes in 2020. He retired at the age of 25 and now works for the PJA (professional Jockeys Association) as a Senior Racing Executive.

Some may consider Adam’s career short-but is it?  What does it take to become not only a jockey, but a successful jockey. What are the day to day demands of being a jockey and what does it take both physically and mentally to be and stay as a jockey? What are the concerns in todays world of being a jockey? How do you sustain a living and how do you become a horseman whilst trying to ride winners?

I LOVED this conversation with Adam, his insights, understanding and forward thinking is brilliant and I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it
