you remember that?"},{"startTime":513.3,"endTime":514.98,"body":"I'm sure we talked about that, yes."},{"startTime":514.98,"endTime":522.02,"body":"So you were pretty strong on the fact that you felt like we had to make an organization chart."},{"startTime":522.02,"endTime":525.62,"body":"And honestly, my thing was we had like five employees and I'm like,"},{"startTime":525.62,"endTime":527.46,"body":"why do I need an organizational chart?"},{"startTime":527.46,"endTime":531.22,"body":"Like I literally can walk in the room and say something to everyone."},{"startTime":531.22,"endTime":535.38,"body":"But your thought process behind it made sense."},{"startTime":535.38,"endTime":537.7,"body":"So share why you should have an organizational chart,"},{"startTime":537.7,"endTime":540.82,"body":"even if you don't have a ton of employees starting out."},{"startTime":541.7,"endTime":543.22,"body":"I think it's probably twofold."},{"startTime":543.22,"endTime":546.98,"body":"One is you want to build an org chart that you can kind of grow into."},{"startTime":546.98,"endTime":547.54,"body":"Oh, that down to today's environment."},{"startTime":556.5,"endTime":559.38,"body":"But everything that you,"},{"startTime":559.38,"endTime":563.7,"body":"person that you plug in is to be plugged in for a reason that,"},{"startTime":563.7,"endTime":568.34,"body":"in that reason should resonate for something coming out of the line."},{"startTime":568.34,"endTime":570.42,"body":"So you're looking at the growth potential."},{"startTime":570.42,"endTime":574.02,"body":"Not just we seem busy, let's plug somebody in to,"},{"startTime":574.02,"endTime":578.98,"body":"you need to make sure everybody A has the ability to make decisions."},{"startTime":578.98,"endTime":584.5,"body":"And no, they're specific roles and who their direct report is."},{"startTime":584.5,"endTime":589.54,"body":"The last thing you want to do is an owner is that everybody coming to you with a problem"},{"startTime":589.54,"endTime":592.34,"body":"and you become a bottleneck for decision making."},{"startTime":592.34,"endTime":597.54,"body":"They need to follow a appropriate channel that maybe you ultimately have a say-so-and,"},{"startTime":597.54,"endTime":599.86,"body":"but they've got to follow that channel or you can't really grow."},{"startTime":600.26,"endTime":604.9,"body":"And I think that was the point that really hit home with me because I have been in a practice"},{"startTime":604.9,"endTime":610.18,"body":"before and been like the associate veterinarian that every single person came to with their problems,"},{"startTime":610.18,"endTime":612.58,"body":"with their questions, with their concerns."},{"startTime":612.58,"endTime":617.3,"body":"And honestly, one, it felt like I didn't have the ability to really do anything about it."},{"startTime":617.3,"endTime":622.26,"body":"And two, I should have given them more ownership over trying to fix those things"},{"startTime":622.26,"endTime":628.42,"body":"themselves. And I really became a bottleneck for change because I was kind of like door open"},{"startTime":628.42,"endTime":633.78,"body":"on everything. And so what I learned to do was say, did you talk to your manager about that yet"},{"startTime":633.78,"endTime":639.06,"body":"or have you talked to that person directly? And that did help start to kind of weed out just"},{"startTime":639.06,"endTime":645.06,"body":"everyone coming to me directly. But you definitely made a point to say, you don't want to be the person"},{"startTime":645.06,"endTime":649.38,"body":"that everyone talks to and everyone comes to with every little thing. You want it to be that there's"},{"startTime":649.38,"endTime":654.42,"body":"a process and there's a layer of leadership, at least one or two between you and that because"},{"startTime":654.42,"endTime":659.38,"body":"you will slow down everything if they need you to sign off or they need you to approve it."},{"startTime":659.38,"endTime":663.38,"body":"And I'll be honest, there's been some things that maybe decisions have been made,"},{"startTime":663.38,"endTime":667.38,"body":"you know, when I haven't been there or haven't been consulted with that might not have been done"},{"startTime":667.38,"endTime":672.42,"body":"exactly like I would. But I think if you're on the same page with how you want to practice to run,"},{"startTime":672.42,"endTime":676.98,"body":"what you really value and what your culture is for the most part, you have to trust your team."},{"startTime":676.98,"endTime":682.18,"body":"And I do agree that thinking, okay, five, ten years down the road, what position will these people"},{"startTime":682.18,"endTime":688.42,"body":"be in? Who am I hiring for? Like where am I looking to plug people in? Is extremely helpful. We don't"},{"startTime":688.42,"endTime":693.86,"body":"just want bodies. We want people that are going to help build something that's really valuable. So we"},{"startTime":693.86,"endTime":703.06,"body":"have an organizational chart that has me and then has you and you zone top in the, in the,"},{"startTime":703.06,"endTime":710.82,"body":"we chart, I think a look at this picture. So technically I'm on top just because you need like one"},{"startTime":710.82,"endTime":717.78,"body":"ultimate decision maker and it's mainly because of like medical and cultural things. So I am the chief"},{"startTime":717.78,"endTime":723.94,"body":"medical officer, also the owner, you are the chief operating officer and we have a chief technical"},{"startTime":723.94,"endTime":732.18,"body":"officer. So those are kind of the top three layers. And then I am the apex of the mountain, I would say."},{"startTime":732.18,"endTime":738.66,"body":"But we each have under that like our zones of what we're in charge of in the hospital, which I think"},{"startTime":738.66,"endTime":744.02,"body":"speaks to the other question that a lot of people ask us is how do we work together and still get along."},{"startTime":744.02,"endTime":749.46,"body":"And it's because I literally can look at that chart and say, okay, this is person's having an"},{"startTime":749.46,"endTime":754.18,"body":"issue or this area of the hospital's having an issue that falls under shame and this person.
