Be Still and Know that I am God
Season 2 Finale
Have you ever felt like everything was falling apart… only to later realize that things were actually falling into place? In this final episode of Season 2, I reflect on the powerful phrase repeated throughout scripture: Be still and know that I am God.
This message of stillness has been a lifeline for me—especially in seasons when life felt overwhelming, uncertain, or heavy. In this episode, I share what it means to me to be still, how it connects to trusting in the Lord’s timing, and why daily spiritual habits help me find peace in the middle of life’s chaos.
I open up about a personal crash-and-burn moment when I was trying to do everything and realized I couldn’t keep all the plates spinning. It was through stillness—and the cycle of connecting with God, self, and others—that I found my way back to joy and purpose.
This pattern has shaped everything I do now, including the Shine On Bullet Journal and my upcoming 8-week coaching program. If you’re craving a fresh start or deeper peace in your daily life, this episode is for you.
Let’s practice stillness, trust more, and shine on—together.
Quote from the episode:
“I believe the Lord’s admonition to “be still” entails much more than simply not talking or not moving. Perhaps His intent is for us to remember and rely upon Him and His power “at all times and in all things, and in all places that [we] may be in.” Thus, “be still” may be a way of reminding us to focus upon the Savior unfailingly as the ultimate source of the spiritual stillness of the soul that strengthens us to do and overcome hard things.” Elder David A. Bednar
Journal Prompts:
- How have I seen God in the details of my life today?
- What is one habit that can increase inner stillness?
- Considering my connection with God, myself, and others— which one needs more focus right now?
🌟 Special Note:

Welcome to the Shine on Podcast with Becky Schettler. I'm grateful that you are here taking time to listen to this podcast today, as I imagine us sitting together on my couch having a deep and meaningful conversation. I have enjoyed creating episodes around spiritual experiences that I have had and how they have strengthened my testimony in Jesus Christ and experienced more of His light in my life. Today I want to talk about the verse of scripture that says, be still and know that I am God." I think it's so amazing when one particular phrase is repeated multiple times in scripture. In the Bible, it's written in the Old Testament, in Psalms 46:10. It says, be still and know that I am God; there is peace, knowing God is over all things." And then in the New Testament, in Mark chapter 4, verse 39, it says,"and Jesus rebuke the wind and said to the sea, peace be still." This teaches us that Jesus rescues us in the storms. And then in our modern scripture of the Doctrine and Covenants section 101 verse 16. It says,"let your hearts be comforted concerning Zion, for all flesh is in mine hands; be still and know that I am God." This reminds us that Jesus comforts our hearts when they are broken. I love it when the scriptures from different time periods all have the exact same words. From the ancient prophets to the modern day prophets. So what does the Lord mean to be still and know that I am God? For me, stillness is an inner peace. It's having confidence in the Lord's work and knowing that He is the author and the finisher of my story. It's not a matter of fixing everything through my own power, but relying on His power. It's knowing that regardless of how things turn out, everything will be okay and all will be made right through Christ The Lord. My friend shared this idea with me. She said, when things feel like they are falling apart, maybe they are actually falling into place. Wouldn't that be nice if we could just trust everything will be okay before we panic that everything is falling apart. Elder David A Bednar talked about"be still" in general conference in April 2024. He said, I believe the Lord's admonition to be still entails much more than simply not talking or not moving. Perhaps His intent is for us to remember and rely upon Him and His power at all times and in all things and in all places that we may be in. Thus be still" may be a way of reminding us to focus upon the Savior unfailingly as the ultimate source of the spiritual stillness of the soul that strengthens us to do and overcome hard things." I have been on a personal journey to create more peace and joy in my own life, as things often feel like they are falling apart, and trusting that in the end everything is actually falling into place. Like Elder Bednar stated, the Lord's admonition to be still begins with remembering and relying on Him. We do this by focusing on the Savior as our source of spiritual stillness. This is why my daily spiritual habits have become essential to filling the stillness that comes through Jesus Christ. Every day I choose a new start with my fundamental spiritual habits, such as studying the word of God, praying to Heavenly Father, and meditating on God's goodness and grace. As I consistently build my spiritual foundation, I recognize an increase in my own self-love and acceptance, and I approach my health and fitness from a place of love and not guilt or shame. As I consistently strengthen my mind and body, more love and joy has overflowed into my relationships, and I serve others with more power. I have experienced a transformation of joy and happiness that is hard to explain. The challenges of life still show up, but the way I face the challenges has changed. It has become a cycle that I can track each day. It's as simple as this. Number one, connect with God. Number two, connect with self. And number three, connect with others. Years ago, I was struggling with too many plates spinning at once. I saw this video once of a man spinning a white plate, and then he started another white plate, and then he started another and another, and soon he had six plates spinning at once and he had to run back and forth to keep them all going so that none of them would fall. Well, that was me in real life. I had all the plates spinning. Mom of five kids, church callings, laundry, shopping, chauffeur, taking care of aging parents, cooking, cleaning, family coordinator, and manager. I was running from plate to plate in fear that one would crash. Then one day I crashed. I remember feeling so exhausted, depressed, sad, overwhelmed, and paralyzed. I couldn't get up and do anything. A dear friend offered to bring me dinner and I thought, I don't deserve it. I wasn't sick. I hadn't had surgery. I didn't have a new baby. I didn't deserve this. I had just crashed and I couldn't take care of myself or anyone else. I was embarrassed. I was compelled to take time out and recover and rest. I learned that when I tried to do too many things I don't get anywhere. I had to slow down, choose my top priorities, choose my family, my Heavenly Father, and the immediate things that I needed to take care of and let go of all the other things and trust that everything was okay. In fact, it turned out to be even better. From my personal experiences in life, I had a strong desire to balance my life and focus on what matters most. I love following the example of Jesus as He grew in four areas of life. In wisdom stature, He grew with God and man. That's in Luke 52:2. I know for myself the power and strength that comes when I consistently connect with God first. I take care of my mind and body, then I am better prepared to serve others with my heart. It's that same cycle. First, connect with God. Second, connect with self. Third, connect with others. This is the pattern that I use to create my Shine On bullet journal. I designed it with personal tools that have helped me align my daily, weekly, and monthly focus on things that matter most. It provides three ways to record details each day centered around God, joy and service. By doing this, it generates momentum that transforms the way that I view the challenges in my life. So I like to have a journal prompt in my podcast episode. Here are three questions that you can journal. How have I seen God in the details of my life today? What is one habit that can increase an inner stillness? And third, considering my connection with God, myself, and others, which one needs more focus. As this episode comes to an end, so does the end of season two. I'm going to take a break recording new episodes for now as I start up my first signature habit tracking program using my Shine On bullet journal. I'm following my own advice to be intentional about my time and energy and this summer is the right time to launch my eight week group coaching program to personally help more women jumpstart their daily habits following the tools in the Shine On bullet journal. This group will meet weekly on Zoom as we add one fundamental habit into our daily practice. I believe when you compound small daily habits over time, plus add an accountability group, transformation is inevitable. This eight week habit tracking program will teach you everything you need to know to repeat it on your own each month. The next start date is July 1st. After that, the doors will be closed until fall, which registration will open September 15th, and the program begins October 1st. So no matter when you listen to this episode, you can always get a jumpstart on your daily habits at the beginning of any month. I invite you to come with me and practice daily habits that add more light, joy, and trust in the Lord. You can schedule a free Mindset Breakthrough call, and I can offer new insights to your habits so that you can feel more peace and purpose. Come find me on Instagram@BeckySchettlerCoaching. I'd love to hear what today's message stirred in your heart. You will find a link to a free habit tracker and website in the show notes. Thanks for following me through season two. I'll be back with new content for season three in the fall. Remember, the worth of your soul is great in the sight of God. He wants you to continue to shine on. Goodbye for now.
