Speaker 3:you're tuning into fbn and this is another episode of finance Bros Network and I am the one and a half of finance, anton Lefwich.
Speaker 4:And this is Michael DePoe. The other half and we are coming to you live with finance for everyday people. We are honored to be here and to be able to serve our diverse communities. Yes, right as usual.
Speaker 1:As usual.
Speaker 3:Hey man, we kicked off season three real hard with the plan, or die mike? Yep, yeah, we're gonna follow up. You know we promised him we had a special episode for him.
Speaker 3:So we, as now, as usually, we're gonna bring it all right. And again, you know, we said with the plan or die. Make sure you take that to heart everybody, because our wealthy is out there. It doesn't mean die physically necessarily, I mean inside we could die, we could die mentally, we could die to our dreams, we can die to our goals, we can die to our everyday good habits that we've developed to get to where we want to go. So let's make sure we all take that to heart. Ladies and gentlemen, we're gonna go into this next episode right now with some more knowledge for y'all. All right, there you go, there you go.
Speaker 2:It's ben don't break, ben don't break man mike man that I got chills right now bro, because this, this, this hit hard recently.
Speaker 3:All right, on this road we've been on, on this journey that we've been on together, I mean it's been, it's been going on about a year and a half now about a year and a half a year and a half. You know what I'm saying and and you know as as blessed as I know we both feel to be on this journey, the adversity has hit and it has hit like a mofo. I ain't talking about like, like, not like, no, no, no, legs, I'm talking gut shots all right shit.
Speaker 3:Mike tyson shots like you know what I'm saying we getting it, we getting it.
Speaker 3:It reminds me of I don't know why, it just hit me right now. It reminds me of the Rocky movie, when Apollo Creed knocked down Rocky in the end of the movie. And then the reaction on Apollo Creed's face when Rocky gets up. And not only does he get up, he's like come on, come on, come on, give me some more, give me some more. That's adversity looking at us, mike. That's adversity looking at our wealthians every time they get up from adversity, knocking them down. And that's what this means by bend don't break. Get knocked down but get back up, fall over but get back on course. That's right, ben, don't break. You feel what I'm saying.
Speaker 2:so, man, this is, this is so close to our hearts.
Speaker 3:Man, I'm gonna read these notes and I'm gonna reiterate all right, so look, and obviously we're gonna kind of focus on financial stress with this episode. There's gonna be some other elements to it too, all right. But right here, instead of crumbling under the pressure, we're going to discuss how to bend without breaking, even when money's tight. All right, think of this episode One of our wealthiest things in this episode, mike as their survival guide to managing financial strain while staying resilient. Wow, got a great acronym coming up later for that too. All right. And then life has a way of throwing curveballs, like we all know, especially when it comes to money. All right, and you can go back to our vodcast, the HHN TV episode two, which is UPI's right. Tv episode two, which is UPIs right Our underprivileged income families and we kind of talk about what that means and how we're switching up the narrative to something positive, because we're not going with that old world way, right? Yep, yep, yep.
Speaker 1:Nope, don't say it. We're not going to say it, we're switching it up.
Speaker 3:So, look, it's easy to feel like you're on the edge of breaking. We know that, we feel that, we live that All right. So we right there with you, right there with our wealthy ends. Okay, but just like a tree bends with the wind, we can bend with financial pressures without snapping. Oh, I like that man. I love that bro, I like that.
Speaker 2:Hey man, hey man, hey man, Put the. I like that.
Speaker 3:Man, man, man. Hey, man put the seatbelt on. I think we finna go off right now Put the seatbelt on man. I'm feeling it man, serious man, that's real talk man.
Speaker 3:You can bend without snapping. You know what I'm saying there's give, there's give and there's give and take. Right, right. Things are going to come at us in this world and things that we want to do and best believe that when you get close, it will hit even harder, because you are right there. Yep, ain't that the truth? I'm not going to get up and run around, mike, go ahead.
Speaker 4:And you know what I was just thinking. Like you adjusting your budget frequently, like that's the bending part, right? You constantly adjusting your budget, right. You're constantly adjusting your budget and and if you have the wealthy and planner because things can, can, can go astray easily, you know. So we definitely could use that to to to help us when we're bending and avoid breaking. You know, flexibility is key when you're working on a tight budget. Life change fast and so should your spending plans. You know if you, if an unexpected expense pops up, shift things around, maybe skip a few you know non-essential items or find temporary ways to reduce the bill.
Speaker 2:You know what I'm saying Love that.
Speaker 4:So just like you do for savings we spoke about in the last episode where you have to save. Put a little money away for savings. You can set aside like $5 or $10 if, if, something comes up and we have that on the planner too, right, yeah. Yeah, we have emergency funds, you know, you can uh put something away just in case an emergency, so it's not a a big difference in your finance, right, right? So putting a little five or ten dollars away every paycheck just in case something happens, why not?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I like that. My, you know that. You know, to start out, when you were talking about that is, you know how you have a compass to make sure you don't get lost. Can that financial planner be considered like a compass for our wealthiness, for your?
Speaker 4:financial for your financial day to day and out spending.
Speaker 3:Absolutely To keep track.
Speaker 4:all right, always focus or keep you in line, right because the point of the compass. If you need to go north and you head in south, that's a problem, that's a that's an issue for sure that's a problem if you need to, if you need to go west and you're going east that's a problem.
Speaker 3:I think we've all been in the car, that one, that on that lonely road, when you know, maybe hopefully we had someone with us and they were like, hey, man, I think we're going the wrong way.
Speaker 4:But the GPS says I don't care what the GPS says bro, I think we're going the wrong way.
Speaker 3:Has that been updated recently? Are we even on Wi-Fi right now?
Speaker 4:Oh my God, yeah, has that been updated recently? Are we even on wi-fi right now? Oh my god, yeah, there's no signal. There's no dps signal, and you've been following it without sniggle all this time. Oh, you ain't got no signal. You ain't got no single bro, you ain't got no signal I don't know if they caught that. Might catch that on the way home yeah, I was like what are you gonna find out?
Speaker 3:you're gonna find out for sure, man, I love it. And look, you know, avoiding financial guilt, mike, yeah right, that's another thing. Yeah, all right. When you are in a upi status again, go back and watch the episode on hntc to get the full breakdown. All right, it's easy to feel guilty about spending on anything that isn't necessary, that isn't or isn't a necessity. Right right, all right. But but beating yourself up doesn't help, obviously, all right. So allow yourself some small pleasures within your means. Within your means, emphasize on that all right, it is about balance.
Speaker 3:All right, might not not depriving ourselves, oh my god, preaching. Okay, that balance is key. Oh, all right, that's so true.
Speaker 3:And have a reward punishment system okay say it okay, if I do, if you got a business, or you know what, if you, if you're working a job, let's keep it real, real simple. All right, and you promise yourself you're gonna work 60 hours this week, 20 hours overtime, if overtime is available to you, right, once you work that 20 hours overtime, promise yourself you're gonna go buy yourself a little outfit or something like that. You know, I'm saying if you don't fulfill that, then punt it, then have a punishment system. All right, now I'm gonna work a couple extra hours next week. Right, and this is, this is all part of the building confidence, because they say that confidence, the quickest way to build confidence is keep the promises that we make to ourselves.
Speaker 3:All right, I was. I had a couple, uh, I was fasting lately. I was promising myself I would not eat on Sunday and not eat on Monday. I did that for about three weeks in a row. All right, just just try to cut, slim down a little bit and I said I'm not going to eat Sunday and Monday.
Speaker 3:And the first thing I did because I know myself, if I keep it to myself, it's not that I won't do it, it's just less of a chance. So I went and told two people that were real close to me People that matter, People that I care about the things that I say to them that I actually do it Right right All right and it helps me to focus on making sure I did that Right, right, right and it, it.
Speaker 3:It helps me to focus on making sure I did that Right, right, and then afterwards I rewarded myself. I went and got you filet.
Speaker 2:There, you go.
Speaker 3:Reward punishment system Okay. There you go. So it is a balance, don't we? So we it's not about, you know, depriving ourselves. It's all about balance, mike. All right, worrying about future bills or what you don't have can just take away your peace, all right. So let's focus on the present moment and what we can do today, all right. So meditation, prayer or simply practicing gratitude can help ground you when financial stress is high.
Speaker 3:All right, remember, we're bending not breaking to avoid being broke. Whoa, I love that man and I'm going, and I just I went right off the notes here to make sure I didn't miss a word, because every single piece of that key phrase is very, very crucial man.
Speaker 4:And you know what, anton, I love I love what you were saying there finding that balance. You know, and that's one thing. I didn't know any better, but I knew, if I work hard and I pay off, I always say to this, whatever I make, I'm going to take at least 10% to do something for me, even if it's something that I should be doing, it's something for me, right, right, you know, if I have a little bit left, I'm going to maybe take 10, if I'm going to put savings in, maybe I'll take 10% of that saving, cause I just mentally, you bust your butt the whole week, especially if you're working for the man he's yelling at you. You, especially if you're working for the man he's yelling at you. You're dealing with other associates, you're dealing with traffic. Hey, shout-outs to the people on the train who are listening to us. I know you backed up people. You know, maybe somebody don't smell right right next to you, right?
Speaker 3:now, man, mike, talk about it, man, talk about it, go ahead and talk about it, you know it's like oh, you in traffic right now and you hoping to make it to the clock.
Speaker 4:because traffic is backed up for whatever, because everybody is rubbernecking, because somebody hit somebody else on the side, you trying to make it to work on time and you listening to us right now.
Speaker 2:You know what I'm talking about. All that.
Speaker 4:And you're going to tell me at the end of my paycheck I ain't going to do something for me. You got me messed up, bro, I think somebody something for me. You got me messed up, bro, I think somebody felt that you got me messed up.
Speaker 4:I'm gonna take a little bit, even if it only is a slice of pizza that I'm gonna go buy and sit down and enjoy, because I know I, I bought food, I put in the fridge, I froze, I budgeted this much, that much. This is all I have. But you know what, at the end of the week, some indulgement, that balance, that's that balance. And, like I said, a slice of pizza, even though these days a slice of pizza is almost $5. God darn it. I remember when it was $1.50, $1.25.
Speaker 3:Okay, I ain't gonna say that that's my, that's my age. I can't be talking like that. But anyway, can I get a new york slice? Yo, that's how much they're running up to these days. Dang, that's. You know, I ain't ever been to new york.
Speaker 4:I go back to new york, all that all the time, visit my parents, and then you know I gotta get me some new york pieces or some raised piece of tony's pizza, and I get a slice of that pizza and every time I how much I give you? I just gave you five dollars, yeah, all right. So you know, this is new york, they got no problem. Looking at you like you crazy. Yeah, you gave me five hours, you. You got a problem, sir? No, I don't have a problem. Okay, let me just enjoy my pizza.
Speaker 2:But real talk, everybody that's that balance.
Speaker 4:That's what's up. You work hard, you do all these things, you're budgeting, but you got to do something for your mental stability, something to say okay, I was able to at least do this for me and that's really, really important.
Speaker 4:Remember, we told you season three it's all about the environment and your emotional being with finance. Yeah, and we're going to hit it hard. We're going to try to hit it home, because that's what we deal with every day, that's what our UPIs deal with day in and day out. So we wanted to make sure that we could hit them home. And the other thing is just believing in abundance, even in scarcity. Remember I was just talking about you. Just don't have that much. This might sound controversial or kind of sorry, counterintuitive, but having a mindset of an abundance can shift how you experience financial struggle. When you believe that better times are ahead, it helps you stay relevant or resilient during tough periods, ignoring reality, because reality is reality, but about trusting the that things can and will improve. You see that things can and will improve, whether it's stretching your last dollar remember that pizza or finding a new way to save, remember you're not breaking, you're bending with purpose you understand that man, that's good man.
Speaker 4:I think I see that t-shirt so so, yeah, just think about that, because we constantly that's what we wanted to bring is you know, you, you know, sometime you, you wonder or maybe you guys are wondering out there how you guys come up with these titles and stuff like that. Yeah, it's real life scenario, it's. It's anton and I. Just we constantly conversate, we, we always make it a plan. Yeah, every single day we talk. Every single day we talk, even if it's in text, because sometimes we both got our lives, we've got our families, we've both got things that we're doing, but we're making that time. Yeah, yeah. And and then if you're going through something and it hits you, you're like you know what our, our wealthiest needs to know this?
Speaker 4:oh, absolutely, our wealthiest needs to feel what I feel we lived it yeah we talk about being applicable to what we do and what we. This is it, ladies and gentlemen yeah, it ain't.
Speaker 3:It ain't all sunshine and rainbows ain't that the truth?
Speaker 4:I don't know who's trying to sell that dream, but and I I mean mike.
Speaker 3:We could seriously talk about how many times we've been sold that dream it's hey, ever hear this one? Do you ever hear this one? It's easy, oh dang, all you gotta do is.
Speaker 4:You know what? You know I've been, I've been, I've been, uh, uh, told a lot of time. Mike, you make it sound easy. What do you know what struggle I've been through for this, for it? That I make it sound easy? Yeah, that's, and you know what. That's my personality. You know I'm gonna I'm like you always say, mike is gonna break it down to the simple for you, and that's who I am. But you know, real talk, ladies and gentlemen, it is hard. We're constantly bending, but guess what? We're not breaking. That's right. We're not breaking, bro. So, bro, and I hope this energy is calling out to every one of our wealthiest out there, everyone who's listening If you're bending right now, just don't break. Yeah, find a way, find a way to get back straight, and then you're going to bend again. Look, that's our life. Life ain't perfect.
Speaker 3:For real man. That's man, that's so deep and you know, uh, I'm just thinking, when you're talking about that right now, you ever go into in this, I'm just, you know, we gotta be real, mike yeah yeah, you ever you ever go into somebody's house, bro, and it's filthy and they look, but they look at you like what? Yeah, what's wrong, what's wrong with you, bro? At one time I truly believe that that person had a clean house, okay.
Speaker 2:I'm just saying.
Speaker 3:Okay, and then all of a sudden it got a little dirtier and a little dirtier. And then I'm getting to my point right now. Okay, all of a sudden, not cleaning, not doing this, not doing that, it looking the way it looked. It might have messed with them the first day, but then guess what happened day two.
Speaker 4:Got a little easier. I could deal with it. Day three Got a little easier. It's not so bad.
Speaker 3:Got day four Got a little easy. It's not so bad. Got day four got a little easy. I'll get to it now. I'm about to mess you up. Oh, all of a sudden, this is their new normal.
Speaker 2:Oh.
Speaker 4:Damn all of a sudden. This is normal day five oh, it looks clean. And then to the point, for real. This is real stuff right now.
Speaker 3:This is real stuff. Right now, to the point where you walk in the house and you looking around and they looking at you, they caught a little glimpse and they like what I cleaned up before you got here. Oh okay, how dare you look at my floor? Hey, real quick, bro.
Speaker 4:There is no floor but whatever you say, whatever you say you, whatever you say you. Good, oh man, that's right there bro, it gets a little.
Speaker 3:This means it works for us and against us, right, all right, it gets easier. Right, that first day of working out. We ain't worked out in a long time. It's hard, it's not easy, but it gets easier. Yeah, all, it's not easy, but it gets easier. Yeah, all right. Day two it's still hard. Right, it's not easy, but it gets a little easier.
Speaker 3:Right. So it can work for us. It can work against us, right. Having that freaking, having that, whatever we see when we look in the mirror, it might mess with us, but if we keep letting it go on for too long, all of All of a sudden that becomes our new normal Right, bro. So, so, let, let's, let's go in the let's go in the direction of what's not easy but gets easier when we're improving on our situation and not allowing our situation to get worse.
Speaker 4:Because it sounds like it works both ways. If we're doing it, it gets easier, but if we're not doing it, it gets easier, it gets easier, wow, wow, wow. So so listen. By the way, I just wanted to emphasize by day five. If you think it's clean, you broke, you're broken, you broke, you broke, you ain't bending no more. Hey, mike, by day five, that house ain't clean. And you think it's not bad? You broke.
Speaker 2:Oh man You're broken.
Speaker 4:That's not what we're trying to talk about. Bending is like, okay, I'll get to it and get into it. Maybe day five you need to bring it back to day one Because you're broke.
Speaker 3:Hey man, oh my God you ever seen that movie Good Will Hunting? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you like apples? Yeah, why you like them?
Speaker 2:apples, they're apples hey, well, we love y'all. Oh my god, we pouring out our hearts for y'all, oh my god, hey look.
Speaker 3:Mike, so look, bringing it back. I love this episode man this is a good. This is gonna be the ones we come back and listen to, for sure.
Speaker 1:Over and over bro.
Speaker 3:All right, Look, look when, and so listen. When you're grounded when we're grounded in something bigger than money, okay, it gives you the strength to face financial challenges with resilience. All right, Just what we've been saying. I might be bending, but I'm not going to break.
Speaker 1:There you go.
Speaker 3:All right. So that's what affirmation sounds like to me. There you go. I might be bending, but I'm not going to break.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 3:All right, try saying that in the mirror three times faster All right. So look, we're going to break it down real quick, but I had this little you know, I got hit him for y'all.
Speaker 4:Get ready for it. Here you come, so check this out.
Speaker 3:In the army, in the military, they got this thing called ROTC, you know what that means. Yeah. It's reserve officers training corps. I got you. They got some people. They got some people going around doing stuff, just in case.
Speaker 4:they got some people getting ready, just in case right, because they constantly, constantly bending constantly bro.
Speaker 3:Okay, somebody messed with america. We got something, just in case for you. That's right. We got a plan a, b, c and something. If they it got people sitting around thinking stuff up and some people around there with them thinking other stuff up yep, thinking stuff up just to get stuff up exactly so it's always being ready to stop having to get ready. By the way, you know what you're a part of. We know this is fbn mike, right, you know what we doing here, what do you?
Speaker 3:get ready for what? What are you getting ready for? You know we. You know the path. We've done the work right. Get ready Right. This is working out right now. This is batting practice. This is exercise. This is fun for us.
Speaker 2:I'm having fun right now.
Speaker 3:You having fun right now, that's right. You know what I'm saying. We come together, we get in this room and we just pour our hearts out. It's no question about what's about to happen when we get in here. That's right, all right. So so we, so we are, we are, we are just flowing. It's good. We get to flow in our gifts, the gifts that were given to us. We get to exercise that, all right. So, rotc, they are. Just have people always doing something, training, following the formula, doing the things that they already have up on the board.
Speaker 4:It's on the board.
Speaker 3:Hey, marty, if you forget, just know what's up on the board. That's right, all right. Rotc, that's what they do, that's what our military does. So we got an FBN military, here we go, all right. So check this out or a military slaying for the FBN. All right, we ain't got no military here Exactly. But we got our own version of for fbn. Our wealthiest is resilience optimism, tenacity and commitment.
Speaker 4:Oh, oh, that's our rotc. Hey, we're gonna get that to our wealthiest wealthians going forward.
Speaker 3:When we say rotc, you know what we mean there you go, man, and it's a, it's a salute to your dreams.
Speaker 4:Right, everybody making an affirmation yeah, why, hey, wealthy. Why don't we make it an affirmation yeah, hey wealthy. Why don't we make that an affirmation? Ain't much to say. Say ROTC every day Resilience, right, optimism, tenacity and commitment.
Speaker 3:We know, we know, we knows our brothers and sisters out there Commitment, that's a strong word, that's a very strong that's a strong word, yeah make it, make it your affirmation, because because when you're bending, when you're bending, you got to make sure you don't break that's right, man, and the more you stretch, you know, the more you stretch, like we stretch things right, like some, like some, uh, even like we're talking about athletes in the last episode you know they stretch and might not be able to stretch all the way the first time.
Speaker 3:But day two, day three, day 15, day 30, all of a sudden you can, you bending like you yeah, like no other, nobody's business but you're not pulling the muscle, though that's right, you know, but you try to do it on day one right, that might have hurt you, but now, now you got the, you got the habit that you built up, the consistent, good habit that you built up of doing these things, these, these exercises, while we talk about the wealthy and planner reviewing it consistently. So these are not alien thoughts that we're having. It's not alien things to us. You know, going to say a no to ourself for the Starbucks, we can make you a cup of coffee at home. It doesn't all of a sudden. Yeah, it's hard the first day, right, but it gets easier, of course. All right, okay, so we'll hit it with the breakdown. Let's break it with the breakdown We'll get up on out of here.
Speaker 4:Okay, here's the literal everybody. Cut expensive creatively, not discreetly, instead of cutting out all your entertainment and enjoyment. You know I'm passionate about that. Find ways to be resourceful. Look for free events in your community, borrow from library instead of buying, or start a swap group. You know how to have swap meet, swap group with friends or neighbors that that way you still enjoy life without breaking the bank. Ain't that cool?
Speaker 3:I love that brother ain't that cool, just just fine with your neighbors.
Speaker 4:Get Guess what a lot of us brothers and sisters used to still do. I think we play dominoes, we play spades, that's entertainment. How much it costs you, I mean, if you got to buy the dominoes okay, a couple of dollars.
Speaker 3:A couple of dollars If you got to buy cars.
Speaker 4:cars still, unfortunately still a couple of dollars these days. Cars, cars still unfortunately still a couple of dollars these days. But you know what? You're not breaking the bank, yeah.
Speaker 3:But you're finding a balance. You need to exercise in your mind too.
Speaker 4:Yeah, exercise in your mind having good conversation with some people and you're socializing with people and you didn't have to go spend because for these days a couple to go to the movies is almost like $40, $80 at the end of the day with popcorn and soda and all that. That's ridiculous. Yeah, let me play some spades, yo mental let's look at the mental uh mental stay adaptable.
Speaker 4:Life is unpredictable, and so are finances. Real talk. Instead of panicking when things don't go according to plan, remind yourself that flexibility is a strength Bending. Being mentally prepared to pivot is half the battle.
Speaker 1:Gia Jo.
Speaker 4:You know, no, it's have to battle. So you know, I know our gen z out there. It's like all right. Gen alpha I just found out gen alpha is the new generation gen alpha.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's alpha they call them gen alpha.
Speaker 4:I think they were born from 2010 until now they're called gen alpha. So so we're hitting the gen z's. We're hitting the Gen Z's, we're hitting the Gen Alpha's. I know there ain't no GI Joe that you know about, but GI Joe is you know is one of the things they always say. Knowing is half the battle.
Speaker 3:Yeah and yeah. We went back to 85.
Speaker 2:So what.
Speaker 3:Yeah, we did that, that's cool we out here for everybody.
Speaker 1:That's right, that's right.
Speaker 3:I love it and, of course, I'm going to give them the spiritual.
Speaker 3:And look, this is reiterating a little bit, but I'm going to say this again Find peace in the present. All right, worrying about future bills or what we don't have can take away our peace. Focus on the present moment and what we can do today. Meditation, prayer or simply practicing gratitude can help ground you when financial stress is high. That's what's up. This is so key right here, mike. Yeah, I especially being grateful for what we have in order to be prepared for what's coming, for what more we will have to work with.

Speaker 3:It's real talk, bro. There you go, and the hook of that statement is it's already in us. That's right. You're using what you got, what you've already been given, the gifts you've been blessed with. You're you got what you've already been given, the gifts you've been blessed with. You're not broke right, you have something right.
Speaker 3:We all have a place to start something. There's something that that gives us a burning desire inside. I know we all have that thing that when we think about it, we get, we got little hair stand up. We kind of we kind of get our back a little bit more straight, you know, hold our chin up a little bit higher when that, when, especially when we end up doing that thing and we might not even know what it is yet, but in the midst of doing that thing, just kind of realize our, our persona, like, realize your, your, your, your communication at that time, realize your energy at that time and see how it's heightened a little bit, got a little pep in the step, look like when you walk, and you got a little beat in your head you know that's how we recognize these things that we love.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so know that we are not broke. There is something in each and every one of us, all right, and we can use that thing at any given time. That's right. Do it, don't do it, but just know that if we're doing it, we're gonna know when it's happening use what you got.
Speaker 4:ladies and gentlemen, that's what's up, bro. Bro, you ain't broke man, you ain't broke, you ain't broke.
