Donald Osborne is the amazing guest on Episode 197 of the weekly Classic Auto Mall Show with host Stewart Howden. Donald has had an amazing career that has included being the CEO of Audrain LLC and the Audrain Concours d’Elegance, he has been the Co-host of the TV Show “What’s My Car Worth” on the Discovery Channel, he was an editor and contributor to Sports Car Market Magazine, plus he was a featured contributor on “Jay Leno’s Garage” with the segment “Assess and Caress with Donald Osborne”.
How do you know a car’s value and what you should buy or sell it for. They also discuss low ball offers and people who always feel like they need to get a deal even if the price is already below market value. What is the right price for the wrong car? Sometimes people are searching for a very specific car and end up buying something completely different. They also discuss the reasons people buy cars – it could be simply to drive or maybe they want to win a car show. And some people want to buy a car to drive but end up not buying it because it’s too perfect.
What is the right price to pay for a car. They discuss car appraisals. There are three levels of appraisal. One level of appraisal is for insurance value for replacement, there is IRS fair market value if you are going to donate it or if it’s part of an estate and there is marketable cash value if you are going to sell it or liquidate.
Donald also talks about his time on the TV Show ‘What’s My Car Worth’ with co-host Keith Martin of Sports Car Market Magazine. It taught him what he needed to look for when buying a car at auction – many are polished and look great with low mileage, but doesn’t drive very well. If car at an auction has a full tank of gas is often a good sign.
Keith Martin of Sports Car Market Magazine joins to discuss his weekly blog. The topic this week is the Portland Bring A Trailer Meet and Show. Keith discusses how amazing it is that an online company of basically anonymous people created events where people can meet each other in person to talk cars. People use Randy Nonnenberg’s Bring a Trailer sales history to understand the values of cars.
