There's a belief that creeps in for almost every business owner on a winning streak: the moment you go quiet, it's all over. The momentum dies. You're starting from scratch. In this episode, I'm dismantling that myth completely. You've done will always outlast the frequency at which you did it.

Key topics covered:

  • Why good work stays with people long after they stop seeing you
  • The "muscle memory" principle applied to your business and content
  • Why consistency is overrated and a body of work is everything
  • How to stop hiding your best stuff behind a paywall
  • The difference between posting to stay visible vs. creating genuine assets
  • What it actually means to build a business that holds you when life happens
  • Why people will always remember the lineage of good work — and come back ready to buy

There is this really interesting theme that I notice with clients that are on a real role or a winning streak. They've had maybe an amazing month, or they feel like that they have created an incredible foundation, and then there is some small road bump. They either get sick or they feel like that their inspiration completely dries up or something in their life happens. And it's like they start to lose the momentum that they had, and then all of a sudden their thought pattern goes to, oh my gosh, if I am not on and fondling the fuck out of everything, that everything is basically going to wither and die, and I'm going to be starting from scratch again. And I am here to tell you that if you do good work. And if you run an amazing business, and if you put out content that touches people and it changes their brain in a way where it stays with them, it doesn't matter if you have been so consistent and then you go offline for like a whole year, maybe you're like, I wanna go trekking in the fucking bush. I don't know why you would wanna do that, but let's just pretend that you are just like you got a stiffy for nature. Even if you say nothing, the work that you have said that has changed someone's life will always be with them. Like I want you to think about like the times that you have decided that you are gonna get fit and then you're on a really good streak and then you get sick and then your brain tells you, oh my God, it's all for nothing. I'm gonna go back to square one. And we really start to catastrophize it. That doesn't happen. Right? That's why they talk about muscle memory. That's the thing. You are never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever starting from scratch. The work that you do is never, ever, ever lost. And I want you to think right now I have it and I have the best ever. Example for this. If you are like, I still don't believe you. I want you to think about every song that you love, and I want you to think about every book that you have read. You may not have heard this song in a month or even a fucking year, but you don't stop loving it. I want you to think about when you hear something that comes on the radio and you are like, oh my gosh, I have forgot how much I have loved this. Or even if you don't hear that song or read that book again, but you get something that jogs your memory and reminds you and then all of a sudden you know what you do, you are taken back to that place of that moment in time when that work impacted you. And I wanna say that you have so many people that feel like this with your business. So even if you have to go, for whatever reason, MIA or shit hits the fan, and you are like, I feel like I haven't done enough and I'm stressed because I'm trying to grow my brand and I'm currently doing the opposite. Yeah. Everything that you have done up until this point hasn't just died. It's not, it hasn't disappeared into thin air. People haven't forgotten about it. It is still there. And what is so, so lovely is it's like when you can truly show up in your business and deliver an amazing work, when you can deliver amazing work, it stays with people. And you know, I feel like this with my podcast and I've had, I've had you tell me this where you are, like, I've thought about what would Peter do? Or I've had this thing happen and it's like, I may have a week where I'm not posting as much or doing things, but it's so interesting that good work stays with people. That is why it's good work, and this is just such an amazing reminder as you grow in business. It is so not about, you know, always being so healthy so that you are being on and have this rigid schedule, but it's so much about having a business that actually fucking works for you. And it's interesting because you always hear people talk about this a lot. You hear coaches talk about this, I want a business that works for me. And then they talk about like, oh, well I've had to hire all these people and then I've had to do this, and then I've had to do that. And I'm like, I get that. But the system that you have currently feels like it's, it's still not working for you if you have to do all of this shit. So it does work for you. I don't know about you, but for me, I want my business to truly work for me. And what's so interesting about this is the best wins that I've ever had have come from me being actually absent from my business. Or being sick or something happening. And it's really interesting that your brain will try to tell you that you need to be on to really like have the result that you want because there, there is still, I think for a lot of us, this belief that the results that we want are still tied to us being in our business. And it's like, sure, you need to have action present. You are gonna have to do work. Like we can't just sit back and, you know, do nothing and get the results that we want, but. So it's so interesting that you really don't have to do a lot, and there are gonna be some people that will be thinking, or it's like that little teaching moment that you said to them they will go and do something six months down the track and something will happen and they will be able to draw on something that you have told them in that moment. Or you could be saying something for fucking ever, and they will see someone who they deeply respect and look up to talk about this and they'll be like, hold on. They literally said this to me six months ago. And it's so funny that you know, you may have dropped off completely their algorithm, but they will remember that. And then as they remember that they will come back into your world and they will be ready to buy from you or they will, they will come back to consuming your work. How amazing is that? So you can think now about all of the things that you love, that you think about regularly. Like think about some of your favorite albums. Like if someone was like, you're on a desert island, you only can take three with you. You are probably gonna mention something that you haven't listened to in a while, but you know that you just love it so deeply. You don't forget about it. You think about it all the time and you know, in a moment of need, what you would actually go to. So you are that for people. You are a hundred percent that. What I'm also going to say, and this has to be said, is if you feel like that you are not that person, and if your shit is lukewarm, this is your reminder. To change. This is your reminder to put out good stuff. One of the things that I used to do is I would keep my best work behind like a paywall. And I think it's because I was like, well, I don't wanna get copied. And I want people to experience my stuff. What was so interesting is you're always gonna get fucking copied when the work is good, but because it was behind a paywall, people didn't know that it was my, it was my stuff. And what I started to do is bring my best work out and remember that well, when people are paying me, they're paying for like my energy, especially in their business and my unique perspective applied to them. But. It was so funny that like my content did like, it, it, it stuck with people so much more because I was starting to bring out what people pay me for and put that on the feed, you know, sometimes we need that wake up call of, I haven't really been doing anything that is going to hold me when I need to be held. I haven't actually been creating assets for my business I haven't really taken the time to develop like assets and put my intellectual property in my business so my business can actually work for me. And I think with this conversation, sometimes it is a wake up call if we feel like that we have just been posting to post, to stay visible versus actually taking the time to develop things. So there's that. What is also incredible to remember is that people will always remember the lineage of the work. So you can think about a concept that you hear about all the time on Instagram. You hear people talk about something and you think back to the person that maybe. Maybe you learned it from, or maybe they, they told it to you in a way where everything finally clicked. What's so incredible about this is it's like people are gonna be experiencing. Your work through other people, but they're gonna remember you. And I had this the other day where someone sent me something email related, and I feel like I haven't spoken about email forever on the feed. This person, incredible marketer, she came to an event that I ran and she sent this to me. It was about email marketing. And I'm like, isn't it so funny that you read something about email from marketing specialists and you sent it to me, you thought of me. And, and that one is on really good branding. But two, it also shows that I have done good work that actually stays with people. So for those that get stressed, that worry that you have to always be on and fondle the fuck out of everything. This is so much. Why when I talk about your body of work and your business working for you, this is exactly what I mean. You know when life is gonna happen and it will. It is not a matter of if it will. It's when you know when is that next thing gonna happen. Do you have a business that is actually truly supportive and is going to hold you in those moments? Or is shit crashing down? Is that actually why you're stressed? Because you know that this hasn't been a priority and now you're at a point and you're like, oh my God, shit, this is really overwhelming. Or do you trust that past version of you enough and all the work that they did and the fucking heart and soul and like, fuck, let's say it pussy that went into the shit that you were doing. Like, trust me, there is my whole fucking DNA. In so much of the shit that I have done, like there is every cell in my body in that, and I know that there will be someone that will go through and they'll listen to every single podcast episode. I can again, literally be off for six months and my work will still work for me. And this is what we wanna get to. So for those of you that need this, allow this to be a reminder. If you are having a sick week or a sad week, or a shit week, your work and your business will hold you and it should hold you. And if you're freaking out because you don't have that, then guess what? You get to go and do that. Change that and truly create something that works for you. Hot stuff. I love this. I love you. It's funny, this is not the episode that I was meant to be publishing on our Monday mindset. It is currently 3:58 PM This was itching to get out of me because I've actually probably had seven different conversations over the last weekend of people that are experiencing this and I'm like. I don't actually think we've spoken about this before in a podcast. Let me just put some words out there. So if you need it, amazing. If you don't, a future version of you probably will. So I love this. I love you. I love you more than I feel like this actually started by me going on these like little, we'll call them like rampages to my friend Emma. So we would voice message on Voxer and I would like just send her these, like this is the most out of pocket shit. And I'd be like, I love you more than this. And I love you more than that. I love you more than this. And I love you more than that. I love you more than the fact that I went to Kohl's and there was a dog in there, and I love you more than the fact that they were like, oh, it's just someone who's doing their grocery shopping and they just handed it to one of the staff. I love you more than the staff member. Just accepted their fate. And I really wanna know like the backstory of this, like how many times has this happened? What was that first time like? I love you more than how all of the other staff members were with it. And I love you more than the fact that they were coming up and telling me about it. So I love you more than the rapport that I have developed with them. They are so, so, so lovely. I also love you more than the lighting that they have at Kohl's. It's like slightly warmer mood lighting. It's a bit more dimm. Woolworths is like an assault to the fucking eyes. I absolutely can't stand it so that shit can be banned. Love you all. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I don't know why I thought of that, but what an amazing show. Love you more than like 90 Sexy fashion. I feel like I wanna get some more of that shit in my life. I don't really know where to. Start tips, advice, open to suggestions. Uh, love you more than the sunlight coming in. Oh my God, how beautiful. How can you be in a bad mood on a beautiful day? I just don't, I just don't know. It's like you just need to go outside, open your eyes and be like, look what sky daddy has provided me today. So love you more than that. Love you more than the fact that I have just seen so many good looking attractive people. People that just like everything about them, their energy, their aura, what they're wearing, their face. How they walk into a room. Love you more than that. And, uh, hot stuff. You got quite a few things there, so I love this. I love you and guess what, bitch? I'll see you on the next episode.
