Surprised, excited, and hopeful- those would be the words to describe 76ers fans after it was announced on Thursday that the 76ers traded for the Boston Celtics' 2024 Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown. Are the Sixers now true title contenders? How will this trade impact the future of the franchise? #Philadelphia76ers #NBAonX

Welcome in, ladies and gentlemen, to yet another episode of the 610 Podcast, and we have a very special episode of the 6x10 Podcast here. As the Philadelphia 76ers went out and hit on a blockbuster deal that sends Jalen Brown to the 76ers in exchange for Paul George, 2028 first round pick, 2031 first round pick, a second round pick in 2028, and a 2030 second round pick as well. First reactions are one, oh my god, two, is this real? And three, what's the catch? Those are my three instant reactions. Because I was sitting eating dinner, my dad looks at his watch, and he goes, Oh. And he tells me Jalen Brown traded the Sixers, and then he tells me Paul George, the picks, and after going, Holy crap, you sure you got the team right? Like we're not involved with an you know with another team and they're getting them, like he's going to Phoenix or something. And then he says, now I don't know all the details yet, I'm just looking at my watch because I kept asking, like, is there, you know, is Phylon and is VJ and is Maxi and is and beat in it as well. Like, whoa there is no way the 76ers are only giving up Paul George. Come upstairs, look at my phone, and that's exactly the notification. I'm like they may have just done something right for once. I mean, am I nuts here? Did the Sixers actually make a good move? I'm still like in shock that they may have actually made the right move. How many times have the Sixers made a bad move? No, they've drafted pretty well. Actually drafted very well, I would say, in the last six years. They haven't exactly done a good job at the trade deadline. They haven't done a good job uh managing trades in general, signing players, bringing in veteran players, doing really anything. I mean, the last smart move they really made was probably Jimmy Butler in terms of bringing players in. Now you want to say, well, Kelly Ubre Jr. was a fine move. Yeah, it was a fine move, but that's nothing compared to this. This is up there with getting Jimmy. This is up there with getting James Harden. I mean, this is signing a player of that stature, you know. Now Paul George probably not of the same ilk when you brought him in, but you know, Paul George obviously a very good career player. Just situation here, if it was maybe three, four, five years earlier, could have resulted in something, and it didn't. But that's not the point. The point is you just potentially made a franchise altering move. Because this is a guy that's been there done that. This is a guy that for how long now people have been saying, well, you know, it's the real reason why Boston won the championship as the finals MVP. And let's state the obvious. Now you can't go back and we can't have revisionist history here because I think at the time you would have all done it the same way. But Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, Jalen Brown, in that order, 2016 draft. No doubt about it, for years people have been saying, Oh my god, we could have had Jalen Brown. If only we saw what Boston saw. Right? Now, granted, Ben's there, you know, if only you had a crystal ball and you knew, man, this guy is a total you know what kind of guy. And I mean, at this point, Brandon Ingram would have been a better first overall pick, but without a doubt, Jalen Brown has been the pick of the litter of the three. And you just acquired him, which means you get a guy that's gonna be he is gonna turn 30 in October. So okay, there's that. That, you know, he's obviously not in his twenties. But I mean the numbers speak for themselves. This past year, without Tatum, like at all, he led the Celtics to the two seed. Now I know regular season's regular season, but he averaged twenty-nine points, five assists, seven boards, shot thirty-five percent from three, forty-eight percent from the field. But more than anything, it's not just about the numbers with this guy. He understands what winning looks like. The Sixers do not. They do not. They haven't they haven't in quite some time. Two-time All NBA player, five-time All-Star, 2024 Finals MVP. 2024 Eastern Conference Finals MVP. A guy that has been a thorn in the back side of this team for a long time and was their driving force in that Game 7 at TD Garden. Now, mind you, it's not as if and I don't want to be the Scrooge to anything here, so don't confuse me with that, but you know, it's not as if he's coming here to pair up, like this is 20, you know, 21, and he's coming to pair up with Joel and Bede. There are a lot of outlying factors here. How's he gonna fit in with this offense? And that's something that obviously we're gonna come to find out. Because that's no doubt going to be a talking point. And it's as well it should be. I mean, it's gonna be very interesting to see how it works. Not trying to start any drama here, but it is going to be interesting to see how it works. How will he and Joel be on the court at the same time? How will he and Maxie be on the court at the same time, both ball dominant players, same with VJ. You know, now Maxie seems to have no problem with the fact that they just acquired Jalen Brown. Uh, from the way he's been on social media, neither does VJ. I think it's like, hey, whatever we can do to win at that at this point, we're all for it. Now, the original asking price for Jalen Brown's services, so the Celtics were originally asking the Sixers for five first round picks, VJ Edgecombe and Paul George in exchange for Jalen Brown. And totally settled. Now, granted, if you're the 76ers and they offered that to you, or they came back with that, and you went, No, we're gonna do two firsts, two seconds, and just Paul George, and the Celtics said, Yeah, we you know, we'll accept that, you'd go. Wait, really? I mean, uh, you would literally would be like Yeah. You know? Submit it to the league office before they can even have a second thought. I mean, Brad Stevens was comfortable with that. Now he I mean, he has to have something else in mind with Paul George, because there is no way. I know a lot of people are gonna roll their eyes when I say this, but the Celtics are, in my opinion, one of, if not the most well-ran organizations in all of sports, so it's kind of intriguing to see that that's what they did. Now, so what's kind of interesting about all this and here's what I kind of sit here and go, hmm. I really don't know what to feel about it, is what do you do about your bench? Because initially it was like, well, where do the Sixers go from there? Well, then they acquire Anferne Simmons. Oh, by the way, and like I said, they got Dean Wade, you know, who's coming here on a four-year, thirty-nine million dollar deal that I don't necessarily love, but right now that's not the real news. But they bring in Anthony Simmons, who was in Boston for a short period of time, didn't necessarily shine, was traded for Nicole Vusevich. Um, I mean, averaged 14 points per game this past year, shot 38% from three, solid depth guy to have as a guard, guard forward roll, and I mean listen, when we kind of sit here and talk about, well, who who who came up with this one? Who was the leading factor? Was it Myers or was it Ganzi? I'd probably say it was probably G uh Myers. I mean, I cannot sit here and say it a hundred percent has Mike Gansy's fingerprints all over it. You know, it just this feels like a Bob Myers move. This feels like a move that basically says, you know, I saw what the previous regime was doing with going after a bunch of aging players, we need to get younger, and we need to bring guys in that want to win. Now there's one other piece to all this, and it started about, I don't know, maybe even an not even an hour after the trade was completed, that the Philadelphia 76ers have inquired about the services of one LeBron James. Listen, I I'm not gonna sit here and blow, you know what, about this. I don't see LeBron going anywhere other than Cleveland or Miami, and I think it should be Cleveland, but we get the fourth season, the fourth iteration of the series now of the LeBron James special of the LeBron James I'm gonna make the off season in the summer all about me. That's what he does, that's the kind of athlete he is. It's I mean, to be honest with you, there have been a lot of athletes that have hit the free agency market and have catered so much from the media's attention, but none have done it like LeBron James has for now, the fourth time. And I and I keep seeing people uh put this out there because as I was looking to find that uh original deal for um for uh for what Boston was looking for, someone put out there that, you know, Maxie has endorsed Jalen Brown. VJ Edgecombe has endorsed Jalen Brown. Now Joel Embiid hasn't. But to a lot of those people, I say this. Number one, he's gotta fall in line. Because I I know that he likes to think this is still his team. It I'm sorry, man, but you can't it can't be if you're not gonna play in half the games. Now, obviously, you know, there's a lot of great things he's done for this organization, but we kind of need to let this team and this organization take now a life of its own into the future. It's not saying he can't be impactful, I'm sure he can if his body can hold up. Now that's a big if, and I'm not even gonna really put much stock into that actually happening. But the other factor in this too is like, well, who's your five if he's not there? I mean, now let's just play around with the idea that LeBron does come here. Like, let's say they move and be, LeBron comes here. What's LeBron gonna do? Bring Anthony Davis? You know, he's gonna he's gonna bring Anthony Davis up from the Wizards. I mean, there there's who's grabbing rebounds for us? You know, Bona's gonna sit stand there at the five? I mean, like, what are we doing? Drummond's gonna come back and you know, hang out at the center spot for the entire season. We're gonna go 82 games with Drummond there. I don't think so. And the guy they just got from the Knicks, yeah, that's like the eighth or ninth guy off the bench. So I tend to think Embiid is going to still be here. Would it totally surprise me? Not necessarily if they moved him. Not necessarily, but at the same time, because Myers is coming, you know, Myers has evaluated this thing for, you know, a good year now, over a year now, so I'm sure he could kind of get a sense on things better than anyone can. And I don't know if he necessarily would go, well, we need to because someone's got to grab rebounds. You know, is Draymond gonna be coming here or something? I mean, you know, let's face it. And the idea that this is like oh, LeBron and Jalen Brown are forming this super team here with you got Maxie here and VJ and you know, the phylon that they just drafted, like you sit there and say to yourself, Whoa, wait a minute. This is not a destination spot for LeBron. He has no ties here to Philly. There's no way. Now, would a lot of the LeBron James freakazoids within the city's limits that just follow LeBron everywhere he goes, would they have to uh, you know, eat a big one because of the fact that they're gonna have to put on a LeBron James Sixers jersey? Yeah, absolutely. Now that you'd be a fan of the team for once, instead of going from, ooh, the Cavs, ooh, the Heat, ooh, the Cavs, ooh, the Lakers. Like, come on. Get a life. It's just listen, it's it's why it's one of the reasons why I'm not a huge fan of the guy, because of the fan base he brings with him, and those kinds of sports fans being the worst kind of sports fans. Now, if it ends in a championship, uh I might be willing to I think uh put up with that for a nice year. I I think I'd be okay considering the last ten years. I think I'm f I think I'd I'd accept that. I'd I'd put one in for another. Now, if it ends in another second round exit, dude, this was a big waste of time. Uh the LeBron James of it all. Jalen Brown. Now, as for Jalen Brown, I have A high hopes, and B, we're all excited for this. I mean, and here's the biggest coincidence. Someone put this out there, and this is a good one. So the Eagles just traded away AJ Brown to the New England Patriots, right? Guy that was well documented, had you know, his issues with what was going on, whether it be on the field or off the field. We don't need to get into that now. But then you have Jalen Brown coming from the Celtics to the Sixers. Philly team, Boston to Philly, Celtics, Patriots, same media market, although one's New England, the other one's literally Boston. W one's, you know, city name is New England, and the other city's obviously Boston. You get my point. And Jalen Brown, of course, had, you know, uh, I think a bit of a falling out with Jason Tatum and the Boston Celtics. Now, one was obviously I think a little bit more outgoing in terms of where he wanted to go with one of the two uh Mr. Browns, but let's be real. It's quite the coincidence, and that it's it's definitely interesting that you know one city trades one to the other. And then you consider the fact too, you got Jalen Hurts, Jalen Carter, Jalen Brown. Interesting. Very, very interesting. Now, what I'm curious about too is and I g I mean you have the Phillies who are in season, but I'm gonna be curious if I put on, because this is Thursday evening we're doing this, recording this episode, I'm curious if I go, if I get my car tomorrow, I put on the radio. I wonder if the first thing I'm gonna hear is about the Eagles or the Sixers. If the first caller is gonna call in about, yeah, I don't know if we really should be giving Jalen Carter a contract extension. Let me tell you this much. If I was in charge of the calls, that person not only would be hung up on, I'd say, don't call for another week. Because, listen, we're in it's July 4th weekend. Sixers just made a potential organizational, franchise altering move. And you'd be calling up about Jalen Carter. I mean, come on. It's why you know what the biggest thing you can do with things like this? And it's what I said, and I got killed about this the other night with the whole uh let's go Mets thing that I said, I can't believe the Mets fans are still chanting Let's Go Mets and people were killing me because oh they got the winning run coming to the plate. Listen, if you want actual change in certain things, stop showing attention to it. It'll happen. No publicity is the worst publicity. Okay? And when it comes to stupid stuff, pay it no mind. I mean just keep keep scrolling, keep scanning, keep flipping the channel. Things will turn. The bottom of whoa, we just took a huge ratings dip. Whoa, our engagement's not the same. I mean Come on. To the great fans in the greatest sports city in the world, there's a little piece of advice. And yes, if anyone calls up about Jalen Carter's contract, click, hang up, get lost, you're a loser. Call back another time. Anyways. Now, to close this little Jalen Brown excursion. My biggest thing is going to be A, how he fits with this team, B, how he takes to Nick Nurse's coaching, and C what kind of an impact off the court is he going to have. Because you always hear with some of these rare air guys, you know, like Jimmy Butler. You know, man, he was this type of a guy off the court and in practice. He brought this to the team, and you see everyone else's game rise up because he's there. You saw that I mean, how many, you know, with with Alan Ivers. And the fact that now he's not being given complete free range here, because this is not Jalen Brown's team. And by the way, I love now the smearing of things on Jalen Brown about how people think he's the smartest guy in the room. I d never remember hearing this last week. The season's been over for a while, you can now come out with these stories and you choose now. Why is that the case? I mean, really. Why is that d because his trade value would have dipped or something? I mean, that's why. It's, you know, come on. It's always, it's always let's face it, it's typically whom they get traded to. It's always when they come here. It I I mean, how many times has it been, oh well that player this, oh that player that? You know. And it's just like, come on. If he went to Phoenix, would that be would would this be now a story today? Would it ask yourself that question. Alright. So lots to be excited about with your Sixers. Uh we play the song throughout the offseason. You know, we only don't we we we don't do it only during wins in the season we do it. But this feels like a huge win for an off-season move and a very appropriate time to play the song. Thanks for tuning in. We'll talk to you next time.
