1. Greater sin resulted in greater punishment. (Judges 10:6-9)
2. Sin affects our relationship with God.
- Sin is forsaking God. (Judges 10:7, 13, Jeremiah 2:11-13)
- It cuts us off from his power and help. (Judges 10:13-14, Deuteronomy 32:37–38)
3. What is true repentance? (Judges 10:15-16)
4. Jephthah was rejected. (Judges 11:1-3, Isaiah 53:3, 1 Peter 2:4)
5. God uses unlikely people to do His will. (Judges 11:11, 1 Corinthians 1:26–29, 2 Corinthians 4:7)
6. Jephthah was a shrewd negotiator. (Judges 11:12-28)
7. Jephthah made a tragic mistake. (Judges 11:29-40)
Next steps...
- Invite the Lord to bring you to true repentance where you’re not just sorry for the consequences of your sin but you turn away from idols and throw yourself on His mercy.
- Read and reflect on 1 Corinthians 1:26-29. Ask the Lord how He wants to use you?
- Increase your faith and trust in God by reflecting on His mercy and faithfulness in your life rather than resorting to bargaining with Him when you find yourself in trouble.
