What Does It Mean To Be Reformed? part 1

A sermon outline based on Ephesians 2:1-10

1. Sin is pervasive. (Romans 3:9-18,23, Isaiah 64:6)

2. Sin makes us want to follow the ways of the world. 

    (Ephesians 2:2, 1 John 2:15-17, Galatians 1:4, Romans 12:2)

3. Sin makes us want to gratify our sinful desires. (Ephesians 2:3)

4. We are dead in our sins. (Ephesians 2:1)

 5. God would be right to destroy us. (Ephesians 2:3b, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 10:31)

6. Jesus saves! (Ephesians 2:4, 2 Corinthians 4:6, Acts 16:14) 

Next steps...

• Analyze what you really believe.  Do you really believe that apart from Christ you are dead in sin and deserve God’s wrath?  Do you rely fully on God’s grace to save you – or do you trust in your own goodness and righteousness in some way?
• When others are shocked by the outrageous sins of others, share the Bible’s perspective that we all have a sinful nature and are forgiven and saved only by the grace of God.
• The fact that Jesus saves us through His love, mercy and grace is good news!  Who has God put in your life that needs to hear this good news?  Make it your goal to share the gospel with at least one person this week.
