Rev. Curt Walters

1. This is the favorite Bible verse of many people. (Jeremiah 29:11)

2. Can we claim any Bible verse for ourselves?

    (Jeremiah 4:22, 27, 5:17, 8:17, 9:15-16, 14:12, 15:3, 17:4, 22:26, 23:40)

3. What is the context of this verse? (Jeremiah 27-31)

  • God called Jeremiah to pronounce judgment on His people. (Jeremiah 5:17, 9:15-16)
  • He had to compete with false prophets. (Jeremiah 28)
  • In the midst of judgment, God gave them hope. (Jeremiah 4:27, 29:4-14)

 4. Following Jesus doesn’t always result in blessing in this life.

    (Mark 8:34-35, John 15:18-21, 16:33, 2 Timothy 3:12)

5. What does this passage teach us? (Jeremiah 29:10-14)

  •  Life can be painful. (John 15:18-21)
  • We must seek the Lord. (Jeremiah 29:13)
  • God is faithful. (Jeremiah 29:10-14)
  • We have a glorious future! (Jeremiah 29:14, Revelation 21-22)

Next steps...

  • Think of your favorite Bible verse.  Look it up in the Bible and read the context around it to make sure that you understand it properly.
  • Pray that the Lord would give you wisdom and discernment in order to listen to and follow His voice in the midst of many voices that compete for our attention and allegiance.
  • Read and reflect on Revelation 21&22 and thank the Lord for the glorious future that awaits those who put their trust in Jesus.
