1. We should praise God for choosing us! (Ephesians 1:3-4)

2. When did God decide who was going to be saved?

    (Ephesians 1:4, 2 Thessalonians 2:13)

3. Doesn’t knowing that we’re elect make us lazy?

    (Ephesians 1:4, John 15:16)

Love is the most effective motivator. (John 14:15)

When God saves us, he gives us His Spirit. (John 16:13)

 4. Knowing we have been chosen gives us security

    (John 10:27-28, Romans 8:38-39)

 5. How does God determine who will be saved? (Ephesians 1:5)

 6. Is it fair for God to choose some but not others? (Job 38:1 – 42:6)

 7. How do we know if we're elect? (Philippians 1:6, 1 John 5:11-13)

 Next steps...

  • Find someone who doesn’t believe in predestination and invite them to explain how they interpret Ephesians 1:1-14.
  • The next time you begin to doubt your salvation, read John 10:27-28, Romans 8:28-39 and Philippians 1:6.
  • Discuss what the Bible teaches about predestination and what it teaches about human free will.  How do you reconcile these seemingly contradictory biblical truths?
