Bro, I it's like it's been. I was hype. I was ready. I was ready to see who's gonna win this. Look, man, we are on a layover. We got nine games off, man. Since the last time that we watched Knicks basketball. I want to know who we're facing, man. Are we gonna have to deal with the foul merchant, that is SGA, or are we gonna deal with the up-and-coming star that is Victor Webminama? We got a rematch with the San Antonio Spurs. Going to be much different than what it was in 1999, man. Where, you know, we lose our star. We lose Patrick Ewing. You know, we we lost him in the Eastern Conference Finals. We didn't have him, man. And it was, you know, it was gonna be an uphill climb against Timmy and the Admiral. So now it's different. Now we are fully healthy. We're ready to go. You know, Mitch, I know. Mitch broke his uh picky, but hey, it seems like he's gonna be ready for game one, as you already told the people, man, a few days ago. So Knicks are looking healthy. Knicks are looking to get their get back against the San Antonio Spurs. I'm ready, man. I'm ready for this. It's been a long time coming.

Yeah, well, as you said, it's a long time from 1999, and it's a long time from the NBA Cup because uh both teams are vastly different and much better than they were in December. Give credit to the Spurs. Congratulations to the Spurs for taking the West. I thought they were very impressive, both in game six and dominating the Thunder, dominating SGA, and in game seven, you know, this one, uh this one was a 12-round fight as we we expected it, with the Spurs delivering the first shot in the first quarter, really coming out swinging on both ends of the floor. Uh, the Thunder climbing back into this thing with it with it with the great second quarter. Uh, but I thought in the third quarter, and especially in the fourth, man, the Spurs really opened up that fourth quarter. They were up by four and just three-pointer after three-pointer, excellent defense, and getting after it on the 50-50 balls. I think they had 11 offensive rebounds on this game. You know, the Spurs by the end of this night, they look like the dominant team of the West. They took it. They took it. So give them credit. They finished with 15 offensive rebounds in this game to 10 for OKC. And so you had some three-point shot making by Keldon Johnson in this fourth quarter. Justin Champene was great in this game. And of course, the the alien is the alien, man. So great job by the Spurs. What'd you think? Look, man, I thought it was real.

Like, yeah, you talk about the first punch in the first quarter, man, where you see Victor Wabinyama, you know, as they said on the broke broadcast, giving the giving the omen to Timmy with the the bank shot, right? To open things up. But look, give credit to OKC. They came back, they worked their way up. When you look at it halftime, it was like what, a four-point swing uh still in the Spurs' favor. So it was right there for OKC in the taking. SGA just went off uh in that first and second quarter, man. But look, they were able to withhold uh against the SGA barrage, man, and they really were able to come through. And what the Spurs just did is that they made sure to get their best three-point shooter available at every single corner, three-point shot, or even above the break. And that was Justin Champagne. They figured out, hey, we're gonna keep driving, man. Let's see if OKC is ready for us to drive. Because OKC was just collapsing left, right, and center, just trying to make sure that they had no easy look around the rim, which then in turn led to Justin Champagne getting these easy looks, man, from downtown. And he was cashing them in, man. And then from there you get Vic to uh uh knocking down some shots. Then you get guys just making shots off the dribble, making tough shots. I mean, Harper, man. This kid's looking like a five-year vet out there, man. Fantastic last year, he is he is he's got a smooth handle, man, for a rookie. It is insane. But then if you're gonna have Champagne knocking down threes and you're gonna get the defense in and uh the OKC defense in shambles, then it's just gonna create opportunities for everybody else to get to their spots. But man, they looked like the more poised and ready team in this one, CP. Considering, look, it's Wemby's second year in the league, it's Castle's second year in the league, right? Yeah, these guys are looking ready, man. Which is look, yeah, if you're an NBA fan, it's fun because that's right, that's right.

Yeah, no, you're right. He's still right, man. So um, great job, man. They they sent the message to OKC tonight, and they took the West. Wemby takes the West. And on the OKC side, look, I I you had to figure this was going to be close to a 48-minute effort by SGA, and and he did the best he could to get his guys the W. Uh, the problem is he had no help. Where the hell was Chet Homgren tonight? You going up against your arch rival, and he's out there taking your lunch. I mean, I mean, Chet looked like a scared dog out there. He couldn't match a physicality.

It's the big three. And you ran him away from the big moment. That was it. See, and he was even gunning Wemby in this one. By the end of the game, you gotta rely on Casey and Wallace chucking, Caruso chucking way off one legged step back, one legged. What kind of shot was that? You know, I thought Jalen, the other Jalen Williams, I thought he had a good game.

I that was a big factor in this game, bro. I mean, this series, Chet was just very invisible, man, yeah, in this series. I mean, not a good look for a guy who look, if you're OKC, you put a lot of money in this big three right now to be your future end in a big spot when you don't have J Dub, who's out injured. You know, we saw him when he returned from the ham. He did a look right, man. Who was coming through to help? Like SGA, you're looking for your star who was having a rough series overall, man. What? He had like one night where he shot over 40% from the field. I mean, we'll get into that conversation in a bit where when you rely on a lot of like foul baiting, it looks like your game is thrown completely off. Nevertheless, when you're when you don't have your other guy and Chet is out there just looking like a scared puppy, and your coach is doing everything in your power where you don't have to guard Wemby. He's like, he's not even really on you for most of the night, man. You got Devin Vassell right there. For sure. You're telling me Devin Vassel is gonna be taking your lunch tonight, and then you can't stop him, that's crazy, man. And this is a guy who was second, this is your second overall draft pick, right? Right behind Paulo that year. And so when you're looking at that from that standpoint, that was a full points and a closeout game. That was awful, man.

With your life on the line, oof, Chad Homburn comes up very small in a big spur. Four boards. So again, that was advantageous Spurs. I thought another big, big plus for the Spurs here, and it happened again, it happened in game six, happened again in game seven, where OKC had their advantages. Spurs took care of the ball again and limited the damage off of their turnovers. 12 Spurs turnovers led to nine OKC points. They kept it low in game six, and I thought that was a big key in them winning. You know, they had the big third quarter and everything, but by and large, they've taken care of the ball and they limited the damage off of those turnovers. Conversely, OKC, 14 turnovers leading to 19 Spurs points. And if we're gonna segue to the finals, that's where the Knicks are gonna have to be on guard here. This is a better defense. This is gonna be the best defense, the most physical defense that they're gonna see in this fight in this playoffs. Knicks are gonna have to take care of the ball because that's where San Antonio becomes a rabid dog. Just like OKC, taking those turnovers and using their athleticism to kill you, or the Champagne threes. Remember what happened in the regular season? You gotta watch for the Champagne dagger threes. The Knicks are gonna have to take care of the ball.

Yeah, I remember New Year's Eve, man. I remember New Year's Eve. Yeah. When you had Champagne just knocking down, I forget what was like seven or eight threes. It was like eleven. It was like eleven, bro. It was crazy. That's crazy. When you think about what the Spurs are capable of doing with their athleticism, if you're the Knicks, as you mentioned, turnovers is gonna be very critical, but rebounding is also gonna be very critical. These guys are getting second-chance opportunities, man, when you're watching them out there. I know the Knicks are great when it comes to second chance opportunities. They've been great in the hustle categories throughout this entire postseason run. But against a young athletic Spurs team that is hungry, you have to be on your P's and Q's just because look, these guys, the Knicks have shown that they can get out and fast and they can move at that same same speed. Yeah. But it's just different when you're going against a younger team that is just that that has that next drive to it, right? And while I do believe obviously the Knicks are going to win this thing because they have the seasoned guys, they have the veteran leadership, they have that veteran experience. Uh, they've all I've also believed that the the amount of rest that they have is going to be a key factor in this game. Yeah. Where you had the Spurs who've now been going long into these series, right? You talk about what, six against Portland, you had uh now six against the Timberwolves, seven against OKC. Like you're starting to see it, man, that it's starting to creep up on them like the long trial of just going through the postseason. This was a seven. This was a dogfight, man. Yeah. This was not easy. I mean, you look at just like the shot making that they had to do, man. It was very tough night in and night out for the San Antonio Spurs. So that's where it's gonna be advantageous. But the thing is that they this team is young. They're gonna be able to bounce back. We gotta put that, you know, we got to calculate that into this equation here. And so when I'm looking at the Spurs, man, Knicks just gotta be very, very cautious when it comes to the athleticism.

Yeah, five offensive, four offensive rebounds for Stefan Castle. Dylan Harper had three, including a big one in that fourth quarter and a putback to convert. Uh Kelvin Johnson with two. Lou Cornette, how about the unit Cornette? Not only with the timely stop on a four, we had a Nick on Nick Crime, uh, once a nick, always Nick Crime, Cornette on IHeart in a big spot in the fourth quarter. I, you know, shout out to I still rock with Cornette heavy, but shout out to him. But he had three offensive fouls, offensive rebounds as well in this game. So, you know, you talk about a 15 offensive rebound. How many second chance points did they get in this game? 15 offensive points. 17. San Antonio got 17 tonight. 17 points. 17 seconds. 15 or 15 seconds, 15 offensive rebounds, 17 uh second chance points, yeah. And especially at the guard spot, you know, where Brunson could be vulnerable, where Bridges could be vulnerable. So they're gonna have to be on guard for that for sure.

Absolutely. And when I'm looking at the Spurs team, man, and you just look at the depth chart on like who the potential lineup is. I think this is gonna be the most, you know, e necessarily uh probably like even in the sense of like when you look at like you have Towns and Vic starting at the five right, but then you look at from your point guard to your power forward. Like, I know OG is slotted in that spark. You could have uh Josh Hart be playing your power forward as well. So we have like a lot of guards or wings really at that position. So do the Spurs, man. It's got they got three wings between Castle, Vassel, and Champagny between there. So this is probably gonna be the most even, it looks like, in the sense of like, you're not gonna have like a true power forward as we saw against Cleveland, where you're gonna got where you got the Twin Towers out there. So this is gonna be a uh a starting five that's capable of running and getting up and down the court. And we talk about just that second effort from the guard position rebounding. This is gonna be an even team that can eat that could easily do that, especially when you got De'Aaron Fox at the helm, too.

Big time. I thought Fox had some good shots, uh, especially early. I thought I thought he had some some tough shots, a good bounce back game for him, 15 points, six of 12 from the field, three of seven from downtown. He had all five Spurs in double figures, including Champagny, the marksman, six of ten from downtown. I mean, his jump is just uh crazy. I love his form, and uh he had a great he did a great job, man. Knicks are gonna have to be on guard for that. Heavy. Yeah, Victor Wambayama, 22 points, seven boards, only one steal and one block, which was interesting from the alien. Only one steal, one block, and one offensive rebound, but still good enough. You know, um what I'm gonna be interested in seeing in in this series is because with the with the West, I mean, like we said, it was a dog fight. So the physicality is gonna be like the first thing I'm gonna be watching for. You know, you see how this game started. He had iHeart, I mean, just literally hand checking when the back to the half court line and no calls. I mean, the refs were letting them play game six and game seven as well. I seen Caruso get checked into the crowd, and they called it a turnover on him. He turned the ball over. So I said, okay, this is very interesting. This is gonna be for the finals. All the marbles, who's gonna be the officiating crew? God help me if it's Tony Brothers, but I'm gonna be very interested to see how the Knicks handle that physicality, and especially when it's Hart and Towns is concerned, not allowing that to take them out of their game mentally. You saw what happened with Stefan Castle in a number of these games. You know, the Caruso physicality, he gets charged up and he gets all out of sorts. I want to hope I want to see the Knicks be locked in and be disciplined, especially mentally, with the physical battle.

Yeah, and I think this is going to be an edge for the Knicks, man. I think the Knicks have shown that they could be an e they could be a very physical team. I also think that when you look at the Knicks this entire postseason run, their composure's been there the entire time, you know, outside of Towns being in foul trouble against Philadelphia. But hey, that's against Joel Embiid in that team. So, you know, Embiid is going to be able to draw some, you know, an SGA like shade. Just draw the contact and put you in foul trouble and be in uh be in the favor when it comes to getting to the free throw line. But I think I'm not I'm actually not overly concerned, maybe more so with Towns, because we saw that he he can get into foul trouble. But I think for the most part, man, when I'm looking at this Knicks team, they've been very good and very uh composed when it comes to playing physical, but not getting it, not letting it, you know, charge them up. Like we saw like Towns is able to stay level-headed, push hard away from the ref. I think that was against, if I remember correctly, that was against the 76ers. Then you think about like Towns, like I said, he was in foul trouble, but I feel like out of those two situations, we really haven't seen a lot of like though either one of those guys just get fully lost in the physicality battle between any of their opponents. So I'm actually pretty confident, man, when looking at what the Knicks are being gonna be able to do against San Antonio. I think there's gonna be advantage Knicks in this case, man.

Um, biggest matchup in this series for me out, and you know, you tell me what you think. It's Cat versus Wemby, man. It's Cat versus Cat versus Wemby. I mean This is gonna be Cat. I keep going into each series like this is gonna be his toughest matchup. This is gonna be his toughest matchup. In in taking on the alien. We saw OKC, their best shot was trying to be physical with him, pushing him off his spots. I think those things can be effective. But he I thought he also did a great job, especially in this in this series, in handling the physicality. He's been physical back. We saw when he caught Nas Reed with a bow straight to the neck. Oh, you're yeah, you see that. He's not holding back. Yeah. My man Jalen Williams almost swallowed his Adams apple tonight, man. Like, he Wemby's pushing, punching right back. But I still think that's the right approach. But for Carl Anthony Towns, will he get the benefit of the doubt from the officiating? And can he stay on the court? Because you got Mitchell Robinson with the pinky. We don't know how Mitch is going to respond. But either way, the Knicks front court, that matchup with Wemby, that's gonna be the one to watch for me in the series, man.

Yeah, that's that's definitely one. I don't think that's necessarily my key the key matchup I'm looking out for in this one, but that's definitely one of the matchups I'm looking out for. I think with Wemby, man, from what you're able to see from this entire you know matchup between the Thunders, that even though Wemby is willing to be physical back, I wasn't necessarily too impressed with Wemby with being like that post player and actually getting to his spots. I think that you could still push him off his spots. You know, he takes a little bit longer to get set up, um, and he wants to attack from the perimeter. Now, the good thing is that Towns is playing excellent defense, a guy that's been able to recover, may be able to hang with his guy, whoever is on the perimeter, trying to attack and just put up shots. And I think look, Wemby is going to have to do that. The same thing. Wemby has had, you know, the for him, it's been good that he's got to guard iHeart, right? IHeart's not gonna be putting up threes. You kind of know where he's gonna be playing, so you can really just measure yourself for where you got to be at all times. You know you're gonna be in the paint, right? When you got to guard Carnant Any Towns, you know, it's the same thing that Wemby's doing at this point, right? It's like, all right, now I gotta guard at the perimeter. Now I gotta watch for the guy who's gonna drive. He's gonna potentially do some post-ups against me, man, and try to get to his spots in the paint as well. So for Wemby, you're gonna be moved all over the court. This isn't gonna be like, all right, where we just were 15 feet in and that's it. You're all over the court now. So I think while yes, Wemby is going to, you know, give Kat some troubles here and there. Look, I don't I don't expect Kat to shut him completely down. Yeah, I don't expect Wemby to have like his way either with Carly Carly Anthony Towns on the defensive side, too, man. And the biggest thing, as I said, is Wemby, I think when you see him offensively having struggles trying to get to his position, I think you could Kat could definitely use that to his advantage. We've seen Mitch be able to use that to his advantage. Mitch is a very physical, strong guy who's going to be primarily focused on guarding Wemby and just getting boards for the most part, right? And being the rim runner. And we've seen in the past too that Mitch can guard Wemby pretty well, man. And then with Mitch's physicality, even with a broken pinky, when he's out there, he's just gonna be pushing off, man. Mitch does have to focus on that. And when you can focus in on doing one thing, unlike Towns is gonna have to play defense and offense. You got two guys that you can rotate in doing that job and just guarding Wemby. I don't necessarily think it's gonna be an easy night for Wemby at all throughout this post-game series. This this uh NBA finals run, I mean.

The Spurs, I know OKC is the reigning champs. That's a different style of basketball. I truly a different style of basketball because they're looking to hunt for the whistle. You know what I mean? That's different. Knicks aren't hunting for the whistle. They're hunting for the best possible spots and constantly running guys off their spots. That's gonna be a different thing, man. Now you gotta keep up. You know how we always said, hey, when you play the paces, you gotta get ready for the track meet? Well, welcome. Now you gotta get ready for the track meet with us, man. Yeah. So now the Spurs gotta change it up. Wolves, beaten, bruised when you had to go face them, different matchup. Portland.

This is the best offense they're gonna see. And the Knicks, as you said, they're gonna be able to move Wemby around. They're gonna be able to spread the court out, whether it's with the starting five or if you're gonna swap out uh Hart for Deuce or Hart for Shaman and really go five out, you know, try to pull Wemby away from the basket. I think that'll be a big advantage for the Knicks. You know, Spurs number one right now in the playoffs in terms of defending the rim. Obviously, Wemby's a huge part of that. And they're guards as well. I mean, they're they're between Castle and Vasselle, they're they're dangerous in that light, but I still think the firepower, uh, the trick the shooting from the Knicks is gonna be a strength here in this series.

For sure. I'll tell you what I think the biggest matchup difference in this game is, man, because I know you asked about Kat and Wemby. I I think it's just the guards for uh for San Antonio that's gonna be the challenge for the Knicks overall. I mean, you just look at Fox, Castle, Vassell, Harper, you know, those are four guys that can dribble, drive, and attack, and shoot. And now where you've gone from having to whether hone in on Maxie or hone in on CJ or just hone in on Harden and Mitchell, this is a different beast. And this is where I this is where if I'm the Knicks, this is where I'm slightly concerned. Because it's one thing where you gotta guard one guy who's gonna be the initiator. There's a lot of guys who could be an initiator, man. And they're you're not gonna be able to hide anybody. You're not gonna be able to hide Brunson on anybody. Maybe you put him on Champagny and Champagne. Yeah, but still, like you're not really hiding him anywhere because they're gonna try. And look, this is credit to Brunson. He's been battling every single night. But when I look at this four-guard, you know, like lineup that they got over there, man. If you have all let's say if you just take Champagny out, right? And you just put Harper out there, it's four guys who can attack the room at any given time, man. You can't hide anybody. And so the thing I'm curious to see is defensively, how does Mike Brown go with it, considering that it's gonna be Kat and Wemby? Where do you put OG? Where do you put you know McCow? Where do you put Josh? Like, how do you decide what you want to do in this one? Because as you noted, this is not this is even though they faced each other against in the NBA Cup, man, they've grown too. They've changed the way that they've approached the game, they have matured since that moment, and these guys are looking more seasoned as the season progressed. So that to me, it's gonna be the guards for San Antonio. That's like the biggest question mark in this matchup.
