Speaker 1:Stay curious, keep learning and embrace the power of synergy. Hello and welcome back to another episode of Synergy. I'm Alicia.
Speaker 2:And I'm Dan.
Speaker 1:And today we're talking about designing the life you dream of.
Speaker 2:You know what you always talk about. You're living the life that you had manifested, created and dreamed of. Tell me more about that.
Speaker 1:So about the like currently?
Speaker 2:Yeah, like how did you come up with it? Like? Because I think we're in a space and time where people are sort of questioning what they're doing. We've come out of this COVID period, freedom, flexibility is swimming around in society and people are wanting to live more and live better lives, and I think that really starts with, you know, the big question of knowing what you want.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so that's like the most underutilized question in the entire fucking world. What the fuck do you want? Yeah, so that's like the most underutilised question in the entire fucking world.
Speaker 2:What the fuck do you want? What do you?
Speaker 1:fucking want. I don't know, but like, yeah, that's. I ask myself that question constantly. That is the foundation of everything for me is like what do I actually want? And get really clear on what that looks like and then go after that.
Speaker 2:I remember seeing a lady named Stacey Curry and she's had this incredible story and it was a story of where she had come from and it wasn't a great upbringing and she was faced with depression and a lot of negativity around her life. And one of the things that she said got her to creating the life she lives now is she identified that she started with the things that she didn't want and, one by one, she's like I'm not going to do that anymore and she started moving through the things that she knew that she didn't want. And it could have been things like talking negatively to her herself from her self-talk perspective, but I found this really useful because for me, when I went on the journey of like implementing what I learned from her, there was this clarity about what I wanted when you get rid of the shit that you don't want. So was that the case for you when you were creating your dream life, because I know I don't feel.
Speaker 1:Not really. No, only because I'm more of. I don't really look at the things that I don't want. I'm more focused on the things that I do want. But, however, I think what you've just said is really helpful and powerful to some people who do focus on the things that they don't want. And if, if that's the phase that you're in and you're focusing on the things you don't want, get clear about what you don't want, but don't live there and don't put too much energy into what you don't want. You've got to quickly switch it to go, okay, so what? So if this is what I don't want, what does what I do want look like? And start focusing on that?
Speaker 2:because this really comes about. It's the discipline of not entertaining the don't want too much, because otherwise you just create more of what you don't want.
Speaker 1:I think it comes down to consciousness, Because when we're conscious of our thoughts, because our thoughts create our feelings, our feelings create what is happening in our lives. Right, and this is. It seems woo-woo to some people, but it's fucking true.
Speaker 2:It's so true.
Speaker 1:It's so true, it's so true, I have.
Speaker 2:so if I rewind back towards the end of 2024, if I think about my headspace and thought space, you know, getting towards the end of the year, being pretty burnt out, exhausted, my thought space was not great and I was creating a lot of, I would say, lack of abundance through my thoughts. Having rested, coming back into 2025, and I will say, you know, I was encouraged to read the book Law of Attraction, which you know it's on the spiritual woo-woo side of life, right, but when you adopt this level of consciousness and this way of being, you start realising that you are the creator of your reality and that you're not a victim to the circumstances and situations that might be happening to you. And it's really about taking control of your life.
Speaker 2:So, some people can go. Oh no, that's fucking bullshit. It's all fucking bit woo-woo bit, fucking fucking. You're crazy off. You go to the psych ward. But the reality of it is the more spiritually aligned you are, the more physically aligned you are and the more inspired action you take, the more the reality you dream of is your reality. That's my lesson from it and being hyper conscious of what it is you actually want. So I think doing the work to find out what it is you want is something for me that there's not a lot out there to like. When they say, do that work, what is that work? You know what I mean. I mean because for me that's come through years and years and years of you know courses, seminars, personal development, mentors and, um, you know my own learning through reading and life experience and arriving at a place of going hang on a sec. I'm gonna press the pause button, get off the mouse wheel of life and just go hang on. Is this what I really want? Is this?
Speaker 1:is this me? Yeah, you know what have I created?
Speaker 1:and asking those big questions yeah, I think I was speaking to a friend this morning about, um, she's like what do you, you know, how do you stay so positive? And how do you like, how do you do this? Because I, she's like I've seen you go through you know like, obviously, like having a business for so long, splitting partnership with your sister who you're in business with, and you know doing moving to Melbourne without your family there and having kids and you know all the things that are big moves for people to make, and she's like you just can't get knocked down and I was like I put up everything to my mindset.
Speaker 2:Can I just elaborate on that? Because the one narrative that sticks out for me is you can't get knocked down. Because for me it's almost like there's a waiting on or an expectation of like oh, she'll give up soon enough.
Speaker 1:At what point are you going to give up?
Speaker 2:You know what I mean. Or you've been trying for so long, yeah, you'll give up soon enough. At what point are you going to give up? You know what I mean. Or you've been trying for so long, yeah, and I think it's like it comes back to that thought process and that creation of reality. It's like, I mean, I know you, you are not one. It's just not your way of life to give up essentially or become accustomed to what society wants you to be.
Speaker 1:You know, I think that's probably the something I want to touch on as well is because I feel like I'm put here to show people that you don't have to do what everybody else is doing and if you can get clear on what it is that you want to do. And you've got conviction around that thing, like she said to me today. You've got conviction around that thing. Like she said to me today, you've been dreaming of this life Like you know the courses that I'm creating now, the things that I'm doing, the life that I'm living.
Speaker 1:She's like she's been friends with me for decades. She's like I've seen your vision boards. I've seen all the things. She's like I've been waiting for this moment, for you to come into this person that you have always dreamed of. And it's that element of like I never lost sight of that. Like I knew I was happy for it to take 40 years if that was the case, but I'm like the time is now and everything that happened in between and all in like, every, every part of my life that's happened up until now has happened for this reason, for this purpose, for where I'm headed currently, everything I've learned, everything you know I'm.
Speaker 1:I'm a soul believer in that like I had to go through that journey in order for me to arrive here today and and be you know, giving my wisdom and teaching people the things that I've now learned um that will transform their lives, I believe like I've lived that for many years. It's like what I've now learned that will transform their lives, I believe like I've lived that for many years.
Speaker 2:It's like what I've told you about. You know having a business for 15 years. It's almost like you've just finished your business apprenticeship and now you're ready to get serious, yeah, and the funny thing is is like life will give you clues, right.
Speaker 1:So I was the stuff that I'm doing now I was doing in my salon, like everyone would always say this is just not a, this isn't just a salon, this isn't a regular salon, and it was because the client relationships that we had we would be having deep conversations, like we were having life changing moments in the chair, and it wasn't just their hair, it was their life, you know, like we would have conversations about everything and they'd come to me for advice and they'd come to me for things and we'd and I would learn things off of them. And you know, our purpose was to educate, empower and inspire, and that's what I'm doing now. It was just in a different form, a different um model. Yeah, business it's.
Speaker 2:It's funny how, if that's really in your core, no matter what vehicle or business model you jump into, that that is the theme or the thing that stays with you and I think that really highlights um, that word purpose, why, why are you doing what you're doing? And I think when you start thinking about questions like you know, know how do I create my dream life? For me, the foundation of that is why, yeah, why do you want to do it? You know if for some people it may be a monetary thing, but I'm sure, below that, when you, you know, when your future pace the money story and go okay, well, you've got all the money that you want, what next?
Speaker 1:yeah, yeah. What do you do with that money? What do you?
Speaker 2:so on and so forth. It's like there is something that sits there, that's in each individual's core, and it doesn't necessarily have to be owning your own business. It could be aligned to somebody's business that has a really amazing purpose and mission behind it, that you want to join that and be a part of that movement or part of that journey.
Speaker 1:You know, and for some people that that is going into entrepreneurship and business themselves and for others it's it's joining in a movement of, of a company or an organization I think either way, when you get clear on your purpose, you start making decisions that are aligned with your values, that are aligned with where you're actually headed in life, whether it be, like you said, a business owner who's creating a culture and a purpose and a business around and a mission that's so inspiring that people want to be a part of, or it's the people who are working for people, who want to be part of that, who understand what their purpose and what their mission is in life and want to join someone that's also doing that. So that's where you come alive and where things start aligning everywhere in your life and it it honestly, the comparison thing is no longer an issue. So, like if.
Speaker 1:What I would say to people is if you're comparing yourself, if you're on Instagram comparing yourself, like, oh, you know, oh, I wish that could be me. Oh, why can they do that? Oh, that's what I would say to people is, if you're comparing yourself, if you're on Instagram comparing yourself, like, oh, you know, oh, I wish that could be me. Oh, why can they do that? Oh, that's what I want to be doing. It's that comparison. When you're so, you're not clear on what it is that you want. So you think that everybody else's purpose and mission is yours and you're not fulfilling it when that's not the truth.
Speaker 1:You just don't know what yours is and you haven't thought about it deep enough.
Speaker 2:I also think it comes from a little bit of a black mentality of there not being enough out there, Like if that person is doing that certain thing and they've captured that certain market, well, it's sort of set sailed and I should just give up on my hopes and dreams and not pursue it because somebody else has picked it up. And I look at stories and things like that and narratives that people run around that and it's like no, that's not correct, because you're going to find people that align with you because of you.
Speaker 1:Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2:You know.
Speaker 2:Yeah, one thing I want to talk about is, you know, I guess in the entrepreneurial space of what we're talking about creating your dream life and if it's a business or a company or something like that that you want to start, I think the start-up phase of a business is extremely developing on your character and I think so often there's so many opportunities to actually give up and stop, because for me this is like the testing phase of the grit, the determination, the passion, the purpose, because when you're willing to show up for zero or one person or three people and do it repeatedly, knowing that you're just exercising a muscle for when the big audience comes, I think a lot of people look at that and scroll through Instagram and see reels with you know, hundreds of thousands and millions of viewers, and if they're not getting that sort of reach, it's disheartening or they feel that I'm not worthy enough or it's not good enough or something like that.
Speaker 2:But I would really encourage people, especially if you're creating your dream life and you're just getting started in in your business, that first startup piece is like really get into why you know and if you and if you can really ingrain in the why, you can almost put the emotions of the startup journey, of the challenge, the hardness, the hustle, all that stuff aside, because you can be driven from the why rather than the results. Because, let's face it, in the startup face there's more, there's more lessons than wins.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you know For sure. So tell me more about the law of attraction. I want to touch on that a bit more.
Speaker 2:Oh, the law of attraction. So if I was to break it down, I guess there's three elements to it there's the law of attraction, there's deliberate creation, and then there is the law of attraction, there's deliberate creation and then there is the art of allowing. And so these three elements that are spoken about in the book are really talking about how we are human magnets and have the ability to create whatever it is that we desire, without any limitations. And you say that to somebody that has maybe gone through a bit of a struggle, they may switch off and stop listening. But I would say that the spiritual muscle, for somebody that isn't that spiritually inclined, is something that needs to be worked over a period of time. It's like going to the gym and lifting, doing one set of bicep curls and expecting to have you know, the biggest guns. The spiritual muscle is something that, um, for that type of character, takes time.
Speaker 2:And for me, like I want to share an example of like once I started playing with this world and like I've come from a place where everything was very fucking logical, like if it didn't fucking make sense on, there was no spiritual element to it. It was like hard work, results, work harder, get more results, like it was clean, cut, like that. And then once I started opening the door to spirituality, um, you know, I spoke on a podcast once about a magic mushroom journey that I did. That really unlocked a lot of spirituality for me. Um, you know, my mentor Curl was extremely, um, spiritual.
Speaker 2:After his passing passing, I had a bit of a spiritual awakening, you could say so, I think, for where I'm at at the moment, I'm the most open to spirituality than I have ever been before. And I think with that comes and Kerwin used to say this to me and sometimes I could never understand what he meant by it, but when things weren't going well in business, he'd say hey, mate, play with the magic, you know it works. And what he was saying was is like get spiritual, get into manifesting, start thinking better and you'll start creating better Creating the things that you want.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and that really talks, you know know, to the part of the law of attraction of putting out what, what you want, and expecting it back. It's that, combined with deliberate creation, which is more the intent piece. It's what I want to create and why I want to create it and really sitting into that, so like, for instance, if it's more money you want to create, it's like why do you want to create more money? It might be that you want to take your family on a holiday and have great experiences and create great memories. It might be you want to start a charity and start donating money to a great cause. Or it could just be you want to go out and buy a fucking lamborghini yeah, whatever the thing is, judgment yeah, it doesn't matter what the thing is, but it's about the deliberate intent of the creation.
Speaker 2:So, when you start thinking in a positive way of abundance and are really disciplined with your thoughts, that if you've got a bit of a negative story or a negative talk track going on, that you start changing that story into something that's positive, affirmative and inspiring, that's really going to create the belief that it's happening and that really gets you to the third part, which is the art of allowing. And the art of allowing is really it's an expectation, and the thing that I really struggled with the language in the book or in this chapter was the word expectation, because I think we're taught that to expect something is negative and is bad.
Speaker 2:Don't expect anything yeah don't expect anything, you'll get let down. You know those types of narratives and I remember saying to you I'm going to read that chapter again because it didn't land for it, and I would sit there and you know, know, go through my thinking process and really try and grasp it and understand it and get it, and it was like, okay, it's not about being negative, about expecting something, it's, it is just belief in the highest form that it's going to show up, without doubt and full faith. And I think that is the piece of putting your thoughts together, having intentions towards those thoughts to create something and then expecting, allowing, believing it to show up, for it to materialize in your life. Now, the other side of the equation of this is the doing. So. When you mix this part of spirituality with the doing part is where the magic happens.
Speaker 2:For me, the spiritual work pre-paves the materialization that's about to happen. So when you do the spiritual work and you do the work on the ground, that's where the magic happens. And people might say, no, it's just doing. You know you're just doing the work and that's happened. Well, choose your own reality If spirituality and you know the law of attraction, deliberate creation, the art of allowing doesn't resonate with you and you just want to do hard work and get results. Go for your life. I did that for 17 years.
Speaker 1:It's fucking exhausting, you know, I can tell you now, if you want to hit burnout, then go for that, you know.
Speaker 2:I can tell you now If you want to hit burnout, then go for that. If you want to have a more effortless, free-flowing life that brings you to a place where you believe wholeheartedly that you are the creator of your reality, you can really start being particular about what you want, why you want and how you go about creating it.
Speaker 1:I think we give our power away as well, like it's a very powerless position to be in when you think that you don't have the power to create the things that you want in your life.
Speaker 1:I think for anyone out there who's feeling like, but I can't do that or no, I can't create what I want, it's like stop giving your power away and take it back and start being deliberate about the things that you're creating.
Speaker 1:Because, also in the law of attraction which I loved, this part is what stuck out to me, like dog's balls, is the universe is energetically based, right. So the energy that you give, the negative thought, the universe doesn't hear what the actual words of your thoughts are. The universe hears the energy and goes okay, we're going to give you that, because that's what you're putting all your energy into. So when you start giving your energy to the things that you do want, instantly and I'm talking, talking instantly you'll start seeing different results in your life. The moment you start making a decision that you're going to create rather than be a victim of life and think that life isn't working out for you, that you have no power over the creation of your own life, is the place where that that's victimhood can I also say with this though, because I think this is where a lot of people fuck up around spirituality is they flirt with it and they don't commit to it, and therefore they're like oh, it doesn't fucking work.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1:I heard Amanda Francis say this is like faith, and surrendering is really about holding on to the thing that it is you want. Not holding on to it, but holding it in your mind and the desire of the thing that it is you want. Not holding on to it, but holding it in your mind and you're the desire or the thing that you want and believing that, no matter what it's happening for you, whether it's it's gonna take, you know, if you don't see it within weeks, believe that it's still gonna be there. If you don't see it within years, believe that it's. It's the belief behind creating that thing.
Speaker 1:I think she talks about unwavering faith unwavering faith yeah that's unwavering faith is like, no matter how much you feel like it's not working or how much you're seeing it's not working. It's that unwavering faith behind the scenes where you're going, I know it's going to, I know it's going to and you've got that faith until it shows up in your life.
Speaker 2:And from my experience, when I first started venturing into spirituality of being the creator, when things showed up it was almost like disbelief and it was almost like a level of paranoia of what the fuck's going on.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like how fucking crazy is that? This isn't fucking possible.
Speaker 2:And people will use words like it's a coincidence.
Speaker 2:No, it's not. No, it's fucking not. And once you get to a level of consciousness that you've created enough things in alignment with your spirituality, your physical reality and it's materializing your spirituality, your physical reality and it's materializing that is the moment where you start to feel unstoppable because you can go. You know what, what is it that I want and what we're talking about? Of creating your dream life. You go on, this journey of uncovering your spiritual being is where the magic is, of accelerating what you're desiring so that you can get it, create it and allow it to happen, and know that when you do get there, that you created it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, coincidences, I love how and what a coincidence I I always ask, we always ask each other. Which I love and it's a really good something that I would like any listener to take away with them is when something happens in your life that maybe is a challenge, or maybe it's not exactly what you wanted and it's not the best thing to have happened. We always ask each other okay, what have you been asking for, how have you created this? And giving your power back to you saying hey, what are the?
Speaker 1:things that you've actually been putting out there that's resulted in this thing out there that's resulted in this thing.
Speaker 2:I think this is the um, the other awareness part of once. Once you arrive at, you are the creator of your reality, and everything that you think about, intend to do and allow to happen, you create. Sometimes you catch yourself thinking and something will happen, and and you're at that level of consciousness now where it's like, oh fuck, I created this, and you literally can see all the dominoes that go back to the thought that created your current reality, where it's like, oh, I can see how I made this. Do you know what I call that responsibility?
Speaker 2:radical responsibility, that's fucking taking responsibility for your life but I, I think that's the the part of, that's the piece, that all of it, and it's, and it's like that's when you accept energy and the creation of energy and whatever charge it shows up in, but you fucking be more disciplined with your thoughts 100, and let's talk about mental and, like all thought, hygiene oh yeah, I like that because I think it's really important that people a lot of.
Speaker 1:sometimes people might think, oh, you just wake up and you're just positive and it's like no, there's things that you need to do to keep your mind, because not every day I wake up positive, but there's things that I have that I do consistently every single morning set me up for success for the day, even if I wake up not feeling the best.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so Are you talking about in terms of your habits, rituals, disciplines? Yeah, yeah, I remember having a chat to a friend he was actually on a podcast, dave, and I was talking to him. At a period of time I was, you know, my mental hygiene wasn't great, as you call it Mental hygiene. That's what I was trying to get to. And he said to me he goes, dan, you have to work a bit harder than others. And I was like what do you mean? He's like because your mind is naturally wired to be negative. And I sat with that for a minute and I was like, fuck, he's right. And he sent me a meditation. He sent me a thing journaling that I should do and he's like should do.
Speaker 2:I was like journaling is not for me. And there were a couple of habits and rituals in there that he's like you should give this a go. And then like do it without judgment, test and measure and see how your mental hygiene didn't use that term, but I'm pinching it now. Yeah, test how your mental hygiene is. And one of them was listening to, um, this meditation on the way to work. It was more like affirmations actually on the way to work, and I have to say that if you're a little bit like me in the way that you know, you might be wired in a in a way that positive thinking for you isn't something that is naturally switched on or you've been negative for decades and yeah it's a muscle that has well and trained.
Speaker 2:Yeah, being exercised. There are habits and rituals that keep your mental clarity and mental hygiene in check. Now I know, for me one of the biggest things has been like having a night routine, whether it be reading or doing a nighttime meditation and then, on the way to work, as much, as as much as I want to put music on and listen to a song. On the way to work, it's having the discipline not to do that and listen to something that's feeding my mind positivity or looking at something from a different perspective or setting my day up. I can tell you the days and nights where I don't do my night routine and don't stick to consuming something on the way to work, that is setting me up for success. My thought processes way swung negative than where I am when I'm disciplined with my routines. So when I think about mental hygiene, for me there's so many elements to it it's what you do on the weekends. It's whether you go out and drink or you know who you hang around.
Speaker 2:You know what physical activity are you doing, you know there's so many different how you feel in your body.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so many different elements to it that I think impact that mental hygiene, but I also, for me that is a discipline and a routine, um, and I think, for something that sometimes I just want to put it down, you know, but the lesson that comes from putting it down and the consequence that comes from putting it down. It's like when you go and you're really good at doing gym throughout the year and you get to that Christmas break and you're really good at doing gym throughout the year and you get to that christmas break and you have that time off, and then you get back into the gym in january or february and that first session is like fuck, this is hard yeah, and there's like getting back.
Speaker 2:Yes, and it's no different from the mental work and mental hygiene of having good routines consistently. If you're going to put them down, know that when you pick them back up it's going to be harder to get back to where you are?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I lost it. I had something around, it was a little tip for someone who was just starting out. No, anyway, I lost it, I reckon that's a wrap Good chat.
