We certainly are not strangers to an adventure! In fact, we LOVE adventures! But, we do tend to approach them differently. In this episode, we are going to talk about what exactly it means to have a sense of adventure, share some funny stories with you, and talk about how the two of us “adventure” differently.

Welcome to the beautiful view podcast where we encourage you to look for opportunities in your life to see a beautiful view i'm Candy
and i'm Paul today we are going to bring you what we hope will be a humorous conversation about a sense of adventure
yes i think it's safe to say that everyone has a different idea of what adventure looks like we even differ on how we go about planning preparing and executing our adventures
yes we do so sit back relax and enjoy the beautiful view
let's go go go on an adventure do you remember dora the explorer
yes i do our daughter emily was a huge dora fan
ohh she was and do you remember that DVD we got her one year for her birthday it was
yes
dora the explorer video but it incorporated emily into the adventures that dora went on now this was she just turned twenty one it was probably seventeen eighteen years ago so it was kind of like a hi
yep OK my goodness
i'm dora and this is my friend emily
who do we ask for help when we don't know which way to go
emily and every time it said her name it was kind of like it was asking a question
yeah yeah yeah it
was pretty cool for back then yeah
it was and i had submitted like a a little headshot of emily and so they incorporated her and made her dora 's little bobble head friend that kind of went on the adventures with her
yay here you come it's emily you're here hurray for family play park turns into party party and prison
and
goodie bags that cake sure looks yummy
it was high tech now at least it was on a DVD you know when you're bringing that up i i thought enough time had passed where it could have possibly been on a VHS cassette like eight millimeter film i can't the seventeen eighteen years ago that is nuts
and it could have been yeah i know it is crazy
i guess technology has come a long way since then
yes it definitely has but she thought it was pretty cool back then so anyway
yes she did
tyler had a bit of an adventure this past week as well he was selected to participate in the bellevue community school district student council sponsored survivor competition
yep that's probably the longest title i've ever heard for an event
it is it is so how it worked was students applied if they wanted to participate they had to submit an application and four students were chosen from each grade and they basically all moved into the school on sunday night and then as the week went on they participated in different challenges physical artistic social and mental challenges
yes
mm-hmm
and i don't think there was actually a whole lot of sleeping that went on in that time
no i don't think there was either
i think tyler said he got something like seven hours and of sleep and seventy two hours so
yeah he did he took an air mattress with him like they it was in the gym and they had the wrestling mats laid out so you know the kids could be comfortable if they didn't bring something with him but he got an air mattress as well just to be like super come
uh-huh
mm-hmm
well but what i find funny about this whole thing is is that when i was his age i was just looking for excuses to get out of school and he and he
not live at the school he did yeah he made it through i think he got eliminated on tuesday night which meant he came home on wednesday afternoon after school but anyway he had a great time what fun
moved in like he lived there for four days voluntarily yeah yeah
yeah
yeah he was a he was a little disappointed that he had to come home the challenge he was eliminated on he they they asked the kids like on go go to this classroom and look at the books on the shelves and you have to find a book that begins with the same first letter as the first letter of your name
what's for him is T but there was an additional rule the book could not start with Z so it does it does and of course he immediately this is where my mind went to thought of twilight and he knew the specific teacher had the twilight series so he runs straight for where he thinks those are
is T yeah which eliminates a lot of books yeah yes yeah
and the first book was not there but the other three were but of course they're not called twilight so anyway
no it's the twilight the twilight series but the title was not there yeah and i think afterwards cause he was like man did i just miss like everything and so he goes back to the classroom looks through the books and realise that there were really only two or three books in the whole classroom
yeah that could have been yeah
he it could have been something he could have got through to the next round but you know anyways
yeah ohh well it it was just luck and it it was fun he had a great time but it was real finding how our conversations went over the week and you know you're wondering whether he's getting enough sleep if he's eating well hoping he's not getting hurt and i'm over here
yeah uh-huh
go tyler fight till the end lay it all on the line you can do this you know
yeah that shows the difference in our competitive spirits yeah i was just like i was concerned about his school work like is he gonna be able to do school but actually he said to me that he in his pre cal class it actually went a lot smoother for him because he was so tired he wasn't overthinking anything he just was coming out with answers like off the cuff and ended up with like a a bee that day and something they were doing so he did he did good despite the lack of sleep
MHM yeah
right right
yeah we're certainly not strangers to adventure in fact we love adventures yes but we do tend to approach them differently in this episode we are going to talk about what exactly it means to have a sense of adventure we're going to share some funny stories with you and talk about how the two of us adventure differently
so we all kind of know what it means to have a sense of adventure it means being open to new exciting and potentially risky experiences with a strong desire to explore and step outside of your comfort zone
funny enough i have like a little picture in my office that i bought a while back from our local bookstore the bookworm mm-hmm and it says i have an insane calling to be where i'm not and i i like this because it has the word insane in it
MHM
yeah
and the word count on it is just what i like for a piece of literature but it describes my sort of inner restless spirit the need to see what's around the next corner is that what we're talking about today
OK alright then sure yeah kind of having a sense of adventure can create a feeling of freedom connect us to nature and each other uh-huh create a sense of accomplishment and even draw us close
MHM
to god
but we do adventure very differently don't we
yes one hundred percent you were telling me about a a movie or documentary or something that you watched a while back and it was called first man or something is that right
yes yeah it was a movie called first man and that was released in two thousand and eighteen and it was about the first man on the moon in nineteen sixty nine neil armstrong
sure yeah
he flew on the apollo eleven mission and his character was played in the movie by ryan gosling there was a great movie
mm-hmm OK
and then after that i watched a documentary that was actually released before the movie in two thousand fourteen which was titled the last man on the moon and this documentary was about the life of eugene cernan who flew on apollo seventeen in nineteen seventy two and that was actually the last
OK
his mission to the moon where man stepped on the surface of the moon
OK OK sure so i know when you were telling me about it we got to laughing because you were about you know just how slow the first man on the moon neil armstrong how he kind of went about stepping on to the moon you said something along the lines of you know that's how i would have done
cautious
it
OK i just checked getting back up to that first step it's that haven't collapsed too far but it's adequate to get back up gradually coming pretty good little jump
yes
very slowly and deliberately one toe in holding on to the ladder
following instructions
at the foot of the ladder the lamp foot beds are only depressed in the surface about the one or two inches
valuing and assessing my risk level as i went
and i would have been and jumping up and down like running around as fast as i could just like the last man on the moon eugene houston was getting on to him like you need to you need to shape up you can't do that stuff like
OK right
you're like a
long way from like any kind of rescue you need to be careful he's just jumping up and down
singing
we'd like you to leave immediately that they help in a long
totally would have been my approach
that's one small step for man one giant leap for mankind
ohh my goodness i am very deliberate about things when i'm in a new place and so this is kind of what it looks like when we land in a new campground or something i get all of the information that the office gives us the brochures the booklets whatever and i sit on the couch or in the lawn in their zero gravity chair or something
yes you do uh-huh yeah actually like when we pull up to a campground and you go in to check in you usually come out and start reading it like you get in the truck and you're immediately reading this stuff
well sometimes usually it's the map to figure out where to go for our site yeah so but i do like to read through all the rules and the information check out any hiking trails around kind of figure out where we're going to do our daily walks find out what there is to do around the area and you
well yeah there's that yeah uh-huh yes
uh-huh you're usually breaking about half of the rules while i'm reading wow
come on i mean that's that's not true exactly i mean mostly it's not true i just assume everything has to be fairly similar to the last campground where i mean like you know when you've been to one campground haven't you been to the mall you know
yeah it just depends
and and i mean how boring i'm like we're at the campground we're ready to have fun you know so i i usually go on the theory that if i break a rule then someone 's going to tell me that i've broken it and then
oh they will
i can say i'm sorry i didn't realize like if i haven't actually read the rules then how do i know what i've broken and it takes away that excuse i can use you know the excuse
hmm
i really didn't read them so i have no idea
which brings me to the thought that we both love to hike but we also do that very differently i like to know a little bit about what to expect like the length of the trail the difficulty of the walk
yes yeah we do
yeah
if there are any facilities or access to water along the way
yes survival stuff
what kind of wildlife we might encounter you know things like that on the adventure i tend to notice all the little things around me the tiny little flower growing through crack the birds singing in the trees the little caterpillar on the milkweed
oh yeah yeah
that interestingly shaped rock you know all the little things
and me on the other hand i just tend to like just go like let's come on let's go let's go let's go on an adventure right
yeah yeah yeah
and you don't mind the adventure of figuring things out as you go i do love an adventure but i like to be prepared for what's to come another way that we approach adventure differently as you tend to get very serious and want to have deep conversations while we're walking which
no oh yes yes uh-huh
i mean there's nothing wrong with that and i can usually kind of hang i'm just typically a little side tracked you know taking in my surroundings in the middle of
you enjoy
yeah
your deep conversation sorry about that
yeah yeah well i mean for me when we're on a walk you know i i love to talk deeply about things cause i'm inspired about you know all the surroundings and and it just means that i'm feeling comfortable you know and and so that's when i get deep you know philosophical yes it's a good sign
M
and stuff yeah OK yeah do you remember that time that we went hiking at san angelo state park and we came up on that huge herd of longhorns on our walk i mean we had no idea what to expect that i knew that there were longhorns around the state park but never dreamed that we would just walk up
yes yes we did no they're right on the trail yes
mm-hmm
right to him
behind them yeah we actually had to turn around and go back the way we came because they would not move
yeah we did yeah and and i don't know if it was that same afternoon or the next day i decided that i wanted to go back down that trail because i'm like surely they've gone by now you know it'll be fine and then
uh-huh
no sooner had i gotten just past the same point than two more longhorns popped out on the trail in front of me and and then so i turn around to go back and i'm kind of like a three way crossing so i'm coming in from one side going that way and there's a there's another trail going backwards in a different direction
hmm
so i turn around and go both ways of getting out there were also blocked by longhorns so i had to i had my cell phone on me like i did have a method of communication and there was good
glides mm-hmm and actually have service yeah
and so i call up to the front desk like the the little office there to talk to the park ranger but i'm like what am i supposed to do i i can't get out of this like they're they're surrounding me so i'm like that i'm like what but how do i get out
of this and didn't see you like tell you to like slap him on the butt or something and tell him to move she was very nonchalant about her just slap
yeah she's like no she's she's like just slap him on the bed tell him to get out of there and i mean like their horns like each one of them 's at least two feet long so these things are intimidating so i just shouted at them like i started hollering and waving my arms and they're looking at
oh
how did the hey bear say
me
yeah and then
they're looking at me like huh
what do you want us to do OHP nerd
so
and this friends is why you take a buddy with you
you know all the things
well i did the first time and we i guess we got out of it the first time but yeah no that was i mean that was kind of a scary thing so
know what you're going into yeah the possibilities are
yep
so and then there was the time that you and i were in new mexico and we went for a walk hike or something in the mountains and we were literally stepping in bare footprints along our walk and on about the third one i'm like OK i'm out
yes and the mountains uh-huh yeah and i'm and i'm like how cool is this bear pooprints in the ground isn't that cool and you're like no it's not
yeah that means they're pretty wet too like that means that there is a bear around here so yeah
yes yeah and then then we so we go back to the cabin because you were done and i think you like took a nap for the
mm-hmm
rest of the day
oh my gosh i think my blood pressure was through the roof and i
just passed out
so she passes out so i'm like well what am i supposed to do now so i'm like you know what this
of course i'll go for another walk on my own cause that always goes well
yeah
so i'm like well there's plenty of trails around here let's go explore around here so that's what i did
and how did that go for you
well i take off down this trail and the trail actually goes around ruidoso where we were at and so it kind of leads around the back of this housing addition and there's like a school down there in
mm-hmm
stuff and so i start going down this trail and there's a little bit of snow on the ground not much but a little bit of snow and i start finding like bones parts of carcasses that kind of stuff and so i'm i'm like and then at some point i kind of got the feeling like something
yeah
if someone was watching me so i'm like OK i i i don't have very much like i think i had a knife on me a small
a pocket knife
and so i grab i grab a stick and i start sharpening the end of the stick and i'm holding this stick and then i come across there's a there was a patch of snow beside the trail and right in the snow there was just like these perfect large cat paw prints in the snow so by that time i'm really freaked out so so i i i i make it down this i i knew i wasn't far from you and make it down this trail i get out of there but i've got this stick i don't know what i'm gonna do with this stick of this mountain like after me but yeah so that was that was round two the same day
yes and it wasn't long after that that it popped up on the news that this man had killed a massive mountain lion in that area and the thing was as big as he was
yeah it looks crazy there was
as he
crazy so yeah the i i looked up on on the news website and actually this mountain lion had been seen roaming around the school that i had passed
hmm
and so they were on the lookout for it they were trying to like you know make sure that the kids were safe so but you know that's you don't discover things like this if you don't go out and just like
aaron
you know explore
mm-hmm but you had no idea what was around that area like i mean you were not prepared
yeah i wasn't prepared so and this is this is the case with with a lot of things in our lives is like i still have stuck in my mind the kind of wildlife that there was in england where nothing worse than a crazed rabid squirrel could get after you and maybe like bite your finger we don't have large carnivores over there and so it's kind of like i i'm i'm just not prepared at all or what yeah
he's just skip singing singing da da da da here we go this is fun on an adventure so then we have the planning aspect of things
yes which i can now shape after the fact ohh i know
last year when we did our solar eclipse trip i planned for that trip for months now there are some unknowns even on the day that we arrived we weren't for sure exactly which campground we were going to be able to get into because they were all first come first serve but
you did yeah that was yeah the reservations or anything
i had researched and researched and researched and we had plan a plan B plan C and thankfully plan B worked perfectly so
yes yes it did it did you literally thought of everything
i mean i tried to
in that case i was sort of really happy about that because like we had our entire family the two dogs mm-hmm there were a lot of variables and potentially a way that we could you know end up there without something we really needed so i'm really glad that you planned like that
sir right well thank you so what is something that i thought of preparing for that trip that you were kind of surprised to see you when we got there and unpacked everything
while we were in the middle of the forest and so i think the thing that i'd say surprised but i was very happy about was you had packed tarps and rope
MHM
and and and then when the rain came down your scouting skills that like you know when that rain started coming in we had a picnic table on our on our site and that's where we had set up our little kitchen area and it meant that we could string
it's at me and my survivor skills
yeah
mm-hmm
that tarp is a roof over that picnic table and it gave us a a nice dry place to be able to cook and hang out until the rain passed we did we had fun
mm-hmm
yeah yeah we sat there and played games and all kinds of stuff we did
we had a lot of fun
so you also tend to have a very little concept of how long it takes to get from one place to another place when planning an adventure there are so many things to consider because for example when we're towing the RV you don't like to really drive more than four or five hours at a time
sure yeah
because it which is totally understandable it takes so much concentration and total yeah to tow our forty two foot fifth wheel for you know across the country
so
set up tear down
and the setup and the tear down time and the number but the number of times that you have said let's pack up and go to wherever and wherever is three or four days drive away and then you're like and then let's go to this other place that is another three or four days
yes idaho yeah yeah in another state
drive away from the first place we're already a week in without even spending any time in either place
well i just like to sort of live in my own little fantasy world where anything is possible like you know if we could just dream a little then we could have
yeah
fun and and we get to see all these things and again my concept of distances and geography is all based on my raising in england where if you stray too far then you fell into the ocean
yeah it's still in england yeah there's that
or worse you might end up in wales but to be able to drive for like days here without drowning
mm-hmm
is just i mean that's an amazing concept to
me and trips like that might have worked well when we full time RV like we could do trips like that and stay for a period of time in each place and then move along and stay but now we have other things to consider like you know tyler school jobs
yeah we do
stamps and you know all the bricks and sticks things like that we just can't pack up and leave for like a month or more so
all the things yeah we we just don't have that same type of freedom that we used to have and that's something that we talk about
we don't
pretty much at some point or another every day yeah you know yeah and we we look out of our back window here at the house and our RV 's just sitting there ready to go and but one day one day we'll get back to it
one day yep we will we have found some really neat campgrounds over our years of RV travels to your most recent favorite i found for you the last on your way down to texas over
yep
alright
yes
last summer mm-hmm which by the way the allstays app is amazing i that is super helpful
it's very good
mm-hmm
if you're a camper person yes and OK so what was that campground and what is your fascination with that place
i really don't know it's it's in a very remote place in the middle of farmland but i what grabbed my attention is how well it was put together like everything was though
mm-hmm
of how well it was maintained this by this this small lake and it's kind of like if you were like roaming around in the middle of nowhere you know driving around and you come across a grand
MHM
mm-hmm
hyatt
yeah right in the middle of
in the middle of
nowhere so it was it just was kind of unusual like an oasis in the desert
yeah fair OK and the first time you stayed there you stayed on your own in the tent you were heading back to texas where i was and the RV was as well it was down there with me
i did yeah right
so but when we headed back to iowa with the RV you wanted to stop over there again so you could show me this fantastic campground and i mean it was great i i enjoyed it we got parked up and got a site and and all the things and
two eight ohh yeah yeah one of you wanted to show it off
yeah
yeah yeah and i i got to do something for the first time on that little day which was actually stopped by the notice board on the
yeah
way into the park where the rules were i never even saw that the first time i went there
i did as soon as we came in i knew that we had to go read all the rules
yeah you're like stop the truck and i'm like i've i've been here before this is fine you know no we've got to read the rules
yeah it's important have to know what's expected of maine
so for me going on an adventure is freeing and empowering i remember one time when we were camping at monahans 's sand hills state park and
mm-hmm
i went out for a walk in in the middle of the night and it was a very very clear night there was some moonlight and just walking across the tops of those sand dunes it was just very magical so if you can imagine it it was kind of had this blue cast over everything for the sand dunes looked a little blue and i just was walking out there and it just it was like being on another planet or you know walking on the moon yeah yeah you can't skip around too much in the sand though but but yeah but it was it was just a a really peaceful
walking on the moon now you're falling
beautiful place to
be yeah and i can appreciate that experience but i would never wander out through those massive sand dunes on my own at night there's just no way
now you would
well actually it out really good because it's night time and so the sand dunes that surround the campgrounds are higher than the campground so the campgrounds actually like dips down probably twenty feet or more
mm-hmm
mm-hmm yeah yeah those dunes are so high
they're so tall but at night the campgrounds lit up and so it was so easy at any point just to look back and see where the campground was so that worked out really well
mm-hmm
listen
now you shouldn't do that during the day and so it was like well there was a there there was another time because we went to that park several times cause it was a lot of fun and so there was another time where i said
why is that
yeah oh yeah yeah
to tyler let's go explore umm and so we and there's that's a recurring theme on our adventure
yeah
ah
but anyway so we take off and we we we start walking around all the sand dunes and there was a pump jack so we went to look at the pump jack to see you know that working and then we went to like a couple of other places and then i said OK it's time to go back so we turn around and we had like with full confidence i head back i head back in the direction where the campground was and i had a compass so i could kind of roughly tell which direction but of course like you can head the right direction on the compass but you know you might be a little this way or a lot that way or like it it could be that you're way off like you walking in the direction and actually what we ended up doing is we ended up walking right
always always mm-hmm
passed it so i'm like this isn't right and so we go off in several different directions and finally cause tired is getting tired by this
point poor little guy he was a little bitty thing back then that little short legs walking through that
he was and he uh-huh yep and he turns to me and he's like dad let me navigate and so finally i like OK where do you think the campground is so he's i think it's this way so we go off in that direction and pretty much we got straight back to the campground he did
hmm
a great job
he's a good navigator
but we had to kind of hide that from you like we tried to pretend like nothing had happened
yeah
i think it and cause i can't keep a secret i think it was like later that evening or the next day and i like
you confessed
you know we were gone for a while well we were kind of lost
i remember another little adventure you and tyler went on while we were in the south dakota badlands it was a little bit terrifying for mama
yes it was we talked about that before but yeah
yeah it is a great example of exactly what we're talking about today would you like to tell us a little bit about that adventure
well it all started tyler as soon as we got there he's like can we go fossil hunting like i wanna go fossil hunting hmm which you know there's
hmm
there's there's been like T rexes discovered around in in that area i mean it's you know it it it's not uncommon to find something so we we take off like we take a like a a couple of little trowels with us and we take off down the slope and so we stop at this place and he starts you know we both start chipping away at the edge
sure
sure right
there trying to see if we could find some fossils and but i've got in my mind i just wanna see how far we can get down this this slope slash cliff yeah so anyway we stopped making our way
MHM mm-hmm
yeah
down there and we did we got to the bottom like we actually got to the bottom of there
yeah congratulations the problem with that is is your cell phone doesn't work at the bottom and i didn't know where you went no no because you didn't tell me that you were going on this big adventure
yeah it didn't no
mm-hmm
i didn't know you know when we set out it just it develops it developed into that so we come we start coming back up the hill
right my point exactly
and just like the longhorns we had this time we had big horns bighorn sheep that were standing above us as we're trying to climb up the slope and so i'm i'm not giving tyler a boost up the slope there this big horn sheep is like you know rising up and i'm like
big horn sheep
yeah yeah
oh my gosh and it was at about that time where i could hear way off in the distance the cry of candy
hey paul timer
i'm wondering at that point do i need to call like emergency services like are my boys laying at the bottom of the you know
yeah
cliffs like you know injured has paul fallen and broken his leg tyler 's like he's a little guy at that point like he couldn't do anything their cell phones didn't work
yeah i'm so sorry
yeah
that is a prime example of how our senses of adventure differ and that little adventure prompted us to purchase some pretty high quality walkie talkies for
yeah they do
your future wild hair outings
we might want to install an apple air tag on
me that is not a bad idea actually that is not a bad idea so we have started dreaming and planning a little bit for future adventures
yes we have already planned a couple of trips to texas and in between that we're hoping to take a few trips pretty close to home you know just to kind of explore a little bit
MHM
sure yeah
here too
yeah yeah i think that'll be a lot of fun lots of some work in there family time all that kind of stuff so what i am excited about i have been talking about going on a cruise for a long time and you have not been interested in doing that at all but i think i have you convinced
yes
yes you have
no not really no no not really
well
yeah yeah
on an alaskan cruise for twenty fifth anniversary in a couple of years
uh-huh yeah maybe yeah
you have two years to prepare your heart and i'll do all the planning
yeah i i have no doubt you will plan this
well
and and i think that the difference with this idea of going to alaska
mm-hmm
is that like i really have always wanted to explore alaska and and to see what that's all about and we just recently started watching alone on TV we we missed that for some reason or another and so we're like
mm-hmm sure
mm-hmm
yes MHM
back at season one we're into season two now and which is very similar terrain to alaska
MHM
and so i kind of i'm i'm i'm growing older and wiser and so i'm realizing what it would actually take to do alaska you know any other way and you know the the idea of seeing the glaciers and seeing the sights of alaska from a from a cruise ship
mm-hmm
seems like the safest way to do it maybe and and i mean if if you're like looking at alaska from the deck of a cruise ship then it's kind of like a a like a reality show
mm-hmm
like a TV show except like there's all the sensory things added to it you can look around anywhere you want to the sights the smells you but you're safe on the cruise ship seems seems a little more sensible
yeah
yeah
right right yeah
to me
yeah good i'm glad you agreed to it so if you have been on an alaskan cruise please send
so i think i well yeah i mean
us all your tips and tricks so i found something online that talks about four different adventure styles different approaches and we'll provide a link to that in the show notes if you'd like to check that out further but it's
yes
really interesting because the way you adventure is also kind of how you do life yeah and so it's it's kind of fascinating so i tend to love and adventure but i also tend to have a very realistic cautious approach i tend to be the navigate
really
her the planner the keeper the manager and steward of all the little details and treasures along the way
OK yes that sounds just like you i think my adventure style is more like what they call the explorer and in that definition it says explorers are driven by a need to understand and be understood so their style of exploring is more philosophically based that to the deep conversations
yeah MHM deep yes
they generally have an idealistic expectation of themselves and the world around them this curious approach to life opens up explorers to both lifes opportunities and life 's perils so propelled by their in search of nature explorers wander into worlds that are foreign to them because the allure of the unique and unusual is ingrained
that
in the explorer 's spirit i can't it they are
it's so fitting for you
there
they're attracted to the differences in life more than life similarities like i don't wanna be bored you know the same thing over and over again i wanna go do something even if it's dangerous i wanna do something different
mm-hmm
mm-hmm yeah and regardless of what kind of adventure you are the most rewarding adventure you will ever go on is the one where you follow jesus
yes jesus has given the same invitation to everyone it is simple direct and calls for a decision it can be accepted or denied but not ignored the invitation is simply follow me
at least twenty times in the gospels jesus invited people to follow him he invited the wealthy and powerful the casual observer the spiritual seekers and even the most religiously devoted people jesus called everyone to follow him
yes one day while walking along the sea of galilee jesus passed by some fishermen and he said to them follow me and i will make you fishers of men
for those men following jesus would mean they had a big adventure ahead yes they would have to leave behind their old life it meant being trained by jesus learning to obey jesus and coming under the authority and leadership of jesus
jesus offers the same invitation today he still calls men and women to follow him while following jesus today doesn't mean physically following him around it does mean turning from the direction that you were going and choosing to live a new kind of life while jesus leads the way
yes essentially there are two ways to adventure through life you can be your own tour guide plowing your way through pursuing your own happiness and direction or you can allow jesus to lead you his way you will discover that adventuring with jesus always
yes
leads to purpose peace and i can't promise that there won't be mountains to climb or valleys to navigate but i can promise that he will lead you through if you allow him to
and that's today's beautiful view
