We Recommend: A Movie Podcast

K-Pop Demon Hunters

Jesse and Jason

Send us some fan mail!

A demon boy band steals hearts and souls, a trio of idol hunters skydive into a stadium, and somewhere between glitter and fire we ask the big question: why did a record-smashing hit feel “perfectly fine” to one of us and magical to the other? We dig into K-pop Demon Hunters with a clear lens: where the film’s bright worldbuilding and family-friendly humor soar, and where the emotions don’t quite crest for adult viewers. From that killer plane cold open to the bathhouse brawl and a variety show trap, we spotlight the set pieces that won us over and the action beats that left us wanting more punch.

We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and maybe it will be read on the podcast! werecommendmailbag@gmail.com

SPEAKER_02:

Hello and welcome to the We Recommend Podcast, a movie podcast where every week we recommend a movie for you to watch, and then come back here and listen to us discuss. I'm Jesse. I'm Jason. The world knows you as pop stars, but you will be much more than that. You will be hunters. Cause this week we recommend K-pop demon hunters. So this has been a while since we've done a movie that like I'm watching for the first time for the podcast. So time for the big reveal. Did Jesse like it? And I think the movie is perfectly fine.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm glad you feel that way. What did you throw in tomatoes at you?

SPEAKER_02:

I said perfectly fine. You know, it's not the biggest recommendation, but it was fun. It was a fun little movie. Yeah, you get you catch yourself dancing. Can I say I think this movie has a few pop songs on them, and I think they are all perfectly mid. Doesn't help that like I'm not like a big pop pop song guy. Sure. Yeah. But no, I enjoyed the movie. I was I guess it's also kind of wild that like this movie took the world by storm for a little bit. And uh so you know I had a lot of big big like expectations for it, and then I was like, oh, it's just it's just this little animated movie that people really got riled up about.

SPEAKER_03:

No, what do you think of the movie? I really like it. Uh started watching it with uh my kids were watching it, and it's a perfectly fine movie to watch with the kids. Yeah. Cause you really get into it. And then the like the next day after, she was watching it again, and I was just like cleaning the house, doing chores, and just like singing the songs with me and her both are just like having a moment there. But yeah, I like that. I had kids, this movie had probably really been a bop. I think it's cute, I think it's funny. Um I don't know, I just enjoy it. What do you think made this movie such a h such a hit? And I guess this is I guess people really like K-pop. Yeah, K K pop is huge. Um I'm not really a huge fan of it, I don't although I do like how catchy it is. Yeah. And it's all sometimes it's just a song about candy.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

What was your favorite song from the movie? Um Takedown? Takedown, yeah. Although although we do sing golden mostly.

SPEAKER_02:

I like the song at the beginning that they sing. That was actually my favorite song. So I think that didn't help with me being like, You didn't make any of the songs as good as the first song.

SPEAKER_03:

I can't remember the names of the songs, but that one is really good. It kind of kicks ass and starts the movie off strong. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

And I honestly, like that beginning sequence is kind of like my whole favorite part of the whole movie. It's it was when the plane was cut in half and they're just standing on it while it's still flying.

SPEAKER_03:

I was like, okay, I'm super ready for this movie. I love the demons too, how goofy they are. Yeah, they look great. And they're just like like when the plane's breaking apart, they're just grabbing onto pieces of it and flying away, like, haha, we got you.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, it was great. I re like starting at the beginning, I was like, these people on this plane are demons. There's no other way around this.

SPEAKER_03:

She's watering the plant of coffee.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Yeah. That was all such a great what what's like your kids' favorite songs? What was theirs?

SPEAKER_03:

Uh I'm pretty sure Lila Claire likes Golden. That was my second favorite. I there might be another one that's her favorite, possibly. Um The other two, they don't really give a shit about the movie. They didn't care about the movie. Oh, so is this like your youngest really like the movie? Yeah, yeah. Well, and the other the other two the ha they like it, but they they're not in love with it. It's like I felt like this was your oldest, like right up her wheelhouse.

SPEAKER_02:

She did like it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Although she likes um she loves anime.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Oh, both all my kids. So what's your favorite character and why is it bird and tiger? He's great. Dude, the tiger was the burden tiger. The bird and tiger, yeah, the bird with the hat. Yeah. And then you learn that the bird has the hat because it was meant for the tiger, but the bird kept taking it.

unknown:

Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

So good. And the tiger just trying to flip the thing. He's such a nice little tiger.

SPEAKER_03:

And I really like Bobby. I think he's like he's fun, so supportive. Yeah, I love him.

SPEAKER_02:

Jesus. Ugh, yeah. Um, and I also, oh shit, how do you say his his name? Jin Yoon?

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

What's his name? Yeah, something like that. Yeah, I had it looked up. I know how to say the uh the big bat in it. Um, let me hold on. The big bat Gui Gaemau.

SPEAKER_03:

Guy Maw.

SPEAKER_02:

Guimaw.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, he was he was great. I love like all the demons are in front of Guy Ma and they're just stupid as hell.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I know. I love the D the little d demons in the audience are so great. It's like they either love the band, and then whenever like he comes back and they're like, he's in trouble, and they're just like, why the long faces are like, oh how dare you betray us? This movie did a good job making feel bad for demons, though. I would say it was very effective in that. Nah, but they're trying to eat your soul and stuff. Yeah, but it's just like it ain't their fault.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, it really must be. Now they're stuck in demons. I feel like Demon World. Yeah. If they had something else to do other than eat souls, maybe they we could get all get along.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Like, come on, dude. Alright, so uh there is apparently deeper meaning to the name Saja boys. Oh yeah. Yeah. The Korean word Saja can mean lion, and we see their logo and branding include lion and im lion imagery. However, in cre in Korean folklore, Jiosung Saja are grim reaper figures who escorts the soul of the dead to the afterlife. Typically, depictions of them show them wearing a black honbok and a gat, wide-brimmed hat. All right. Uh, just like the Saja boys in demon forms. Yeah, they look cool. Yeah, it reminded me a lot of like uh some characters from Bloodborne, the video game. Hell yeah. So when they're in their little things, there's like priests that kind of look like they'd looked in the game, and I was like, hell yeah, I like these outfits. They should wear them like this all the time.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, the outfits has definitely spawned a culture of their own.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. It's like I could see a bunch of like boys this big going out as hunters. Did you see any people dressed up as demon hunters? No, I didn't Halloween.

SPEAKER_02:

I don't really have a lot of people, I guess, that post pictures of kids on my Facebook or Instagram.

SPEAKER_03:

The two most co uh costumes that I saw were Demon Hunter, like the purple hair with the braid. Rummy. Rummy, yeah. And then uh uh Rumi, maybe Rumi. I don't know. I think that was it, yeah. And uh General Hogwarts character.

SPEAKER_02:

Like General Hogwarts.

SPEAKER_03:

Like General Hogwarts outfit.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, just like Harry Potter shit, yeah. Yeah. Which I have did you watch the uh on HBO Max they have the Harry Potter Baking Championship? No. You should watch it. It's great. They make some of the coolest and dopest shit.

SPEAKER_03:

Do they have like the actors there?

SPEAKER_02:

Uh some of them come in.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, it's hosted by the twins. Yeah, you know that um was that Goyle or Crab? Crab and Goyle, yeah. Crab is going to jail. Oh, that's good. He had a huge pot farm in his house. Oh, why is he going to jail?

SPEAKER_02:

Oh gosh. Well, he should just move to California. Everything would be okay. Yeah, I think he was in the UK. Yeah. The UK. I don't know why I said that. So the uh film received 325 million views within its first 91 days of release. Half of them by your youngest. Uh, making the most watched Netflix film surpassing Red Notice, which received 231 million views in that time frame. That's the hell was Red Notice. Ryan Gosling, not Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, The Rock and Gal Godot film that came out in 2021. Uh, it was considered not good, but uh everybody in the world watched it multiple times, apparently, I guess. I don't know. I I think I started watching Is that the Santa Claus one? No, no, that's Red One. That's Red One. Also bad. The red notice. Yeah, I was gonna say I remember seeing that the trailer for that movie.

SPEAKER_03:

I did like Krampus, though. He was awesome in that movie.

SPEAKER_02:

I think I saw all Krampus in the trailer. I don't know. I saw that movie and I was like, wow, they're just trying to do the Marvel thing, but with Santa. Santa is like what we do.

SPEAKER_03:

Perfect combination.

SPEAKER_02:

Perfect combination. Everybody loves Santa, he's so jolly. So, according to co-director Maggie King, the Maltese Tiger and Magpie duo, whose names were not revealed in the movie, are named Derpy and Susie. And the reason why they can travel between the human world and the demon world is because they are not demons, but Korean supernatural creatures. She based them on a famous Korean folk painting of the tiger and the magpie. And if you look at the painting, which I have done, the tiger looks exactly like the tiger.

SPEAKER_03:

Except it's not blue, it's uh, you know, like a tiger, but it's got the derpy little face. Fuck yeah. Do you think birds had hats in ancient history? Like, do you think they thought it was funny to put a hat on a bird? If they didn't, they should have.

unknown:

Oh God.

SPEAKER_02:

It's such a shame that birds have lost their sense of style and no longer wear hats. I love birds though. Cats and birds. All great. So uh the soundtrack has four songs in the hot 100s top tens simultaneously, suppressing Saturday Night Fever and Waiting to Exhale, which each of which had three songs in the top ten simultaneously. This movie is breaking records. Yes, and it's wild. It's like, and because I like knew all this going in, I was like, man, this is gonna be the most bop of all bops. And you know, thinking about it, and I was like, why is it that it just wasn't connecting? Because I mean it had like all the elements of all great like kids' movies that also transcend kids' movies and become adult movies. And I guess it just you know, I guess as an adult, I'm like, uh I've seen this story a thousand times. Like, oh, it's not about who you are on the outside, it's about who you are on the inside, and you'd gotta come to terms with it. It just never made me cry. Yeah, it didn't even come close. And I think that's why like the movie that I'm gonna recommend uh to go alongside this movie does. And like every every good Pixar movie, I'm just like, don't cry. Don't. It's a children's movie. You can't cry. And this movie never got there for me. Yeah, no. Though when she is walking through the crowd at the end, and like, you know, it's like, hey, I'm not bad. Um I'm gonna be both sides and be good about it. I was like, I okay, I can kind of feel it. I feel it happening. But there I guess there just needed to be like a bigger, like honestly, kind of monologue with the two friends, like a better one that would have really boosted up the emotions for me. And it just didn't do it in this one. Not saying I don't like the movie, just to say I think it's a perfectly fine movie, as I said. It was just wild because like, you know, all my friends like would be like, Yeah, you gotta watch it. And I was like, Oh man, it's gonna be good. And every time I watched the trailer, I was like, Are we sure? Are we sure about that? But again, it's also just not the biggest, like my favorite type of music, which doesn't help. And also the ending song I thought was maybe my least favorite song of the whole movie, yeah, which was kind of a bummer. Yeah, should have saved like gold until the end or something.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, so Maggie Kang revealed in a Netflix interview that Jinyu's soul is trapped with Rum Rumi's sword opening the potential for a return in a sequel.

SPEAKER_03:

How is that was that explained in the movie?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, it was like the whole thing, she like blast and it's like I'll be with you forever. Uh because you know, love and then it's like I'm in the sword. She's gonna kiss her sword. Sword like and then that gave her the power to defeat all demons. Hell yeah. Yeah. Um I'm trying to think, is there anything else?

SPEAKER_03:

I really liked how um the the interaction between her fans and her how they're so insanely just crazy about them.

SPEAKER_02:

I know I did like I love all the animation. It's very Mitchell's and versus Machines type animation because it's that Sony animation that they do for all their nephews. And then every once in a while it changes just a little bit. Yeah, I'll I really like those movies. But like uh I love yeah, the fan interactions and like how in love with them, but like not insane, like and you know, suffocating they can be, like we see Taylor Swift fans and all those people be. Also, something I really love about the movie is like all the extra stuff, like the corn on the eyes.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, the coming pot when he sees his abs.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, all that stuff was fantastic. And I was like, we need a thousand more scenes like this in this movie.

SPEAKER_03:

He was like signing his autograph with his abs, like he was just tracing his abs.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, it's so good. And I loved all their names like abs romance. They're just like demons were just like, what do people like? Girls like abs, girls like romance, girls like babies. They're like the demon spice boys. Yeah, and it was very, very clever in terms of all those. Um, out of all the like human characters, well, all the out of the three girls who were your favorite? Uh I can't remember her name, the shore head one that raps a lot. Zoe. Zoe, yes. Yeah, she was my favorite too. She was all she was the most funny. I guess out of the boys, who did you like? Um my favorite was Mophead. Mophead, yeah, he was great. Zoe is like constantly like oogling him, and it's like, look at his perfectly symmetrical face. It's like you can't see any of it. You can see his mouth.

SPEAKER_03:

I don't know, maybe baby, because he's always wearing a bib. So fucking weird.

SPEAKER_02:

It's funny because it just reminds me of um Balls Burgers in the boy band and that. Yes. And I was just like, oh man. I was like, wow, I feel like they may have got a little bit from them. Because they're right in a car seat. Yeah. The only thing that was missing was that one old which I know this is because it's K-pop, it's not like America's boy bands, where there's always one that's obviously 10 years older than the rest of the boy band. Like in Backstreet Boys, AJ, I think, is obviously an adult singing with kids, whatever he's younger. Um, so also I guess we should talk. Um so this movie is really all about like these three singers constantly wanting to work or they want to relax, but then as soon as there's like something's like they're trying to save the earth. Now we have to sing because we love it so much when there's like, you know, the whole thing with uh I think it's k-pop bands bands where they're overworked and they pass out.

SPEAKER_03:

They're basically just raised from children to and put in this machine of K-pop.

SPEAKER_02:

But this movie made it positive, and it's like, I don't know about that.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, they weren't doing it because they love to sing, or they probably did, but they had to create the Han Moon and save the people's souls.

SPEAKER_02:

Which is golden moon, I think. Or it's like golden barrier, yeah. Golden Gate, I think, is where it's gonna barrier or whatever that is.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Alright, man. Should we hop into the plot? Before we do that, we're gonna talk uh we want you to think about what the point of this movie is. Is it K-pop good, demons bad, K-pop demon hunters really good? I know what it is. I know what the point is. Um, but yeah, if you want to tell us what you think the plot point of it is, you can leave a comment if you're on YouTube, or you can go over to our description and send us some fan mail link at the top. And at the bottom, there's our email. If you can't click the link, it's we recommend mailbag at gmail.com. Nice. All right, Jason. Let's get into 2025's K-pop demon hunters. Yeah. So the movie oh we have an opening scene. We learn about how demons attack villages and that hunters slash singers are able to protect people from demons because their voices give a protective barrier. I do like how they made the heroes girls.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

That's great. And it was kind of perfect that they put like girl band, boy band. Yeah. It's a great one. Evil voice. Yeah. Um we then we meet our hunters. We got Mira, she's a dancer, she was a black sheep of her family. She's kind of the cool edgy one. She's very edgy. Um and broody. Yeah. Uh and like she even wore a sleeping bag to the Met Gala. That was awesome. Which isn't even the weirdest thing that's worn at a Met Gala.

SPEAKER_03:

I've seen this in other cards animes as well, wearing people who that w just wear sleeping bags around. Yeah. So it's oh you always gotta play sleep.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, yeah, I guess.

SPEAKER_02:

Um you have Zoe, she's a rapper, she goes hard. Uh, but she's also kind of like uh she always wants everybody to love her. Yeah. Um then you have Rummy, the leader. Um we learned that Celine raised her and built Huntry's around her. And I guess like Celine's is Celine her mother?

SPEAKER_03:

I think so. Yes. Couldn't remember. She was also um the star of the sunrise or like the whatever the 80s band was.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Um and which I do love. Like I love all kind of all the lore at the opening. I thought it was really great. Um is great, quick uh world building very quickly, and it puts you in it and you're like, I get it everything. Perfectly. Something about like kids kids' movies, like they're almost better than adult movies when it's in terms of building lore and world building. I guess because you have animation and it's kind of easier. And you kind of accept like the break-in reality sometimes. Yeah, yeah. I I get that. So they are supposed to be at a show, but they're still on a plane. Bobby's like, what the hell?

SPEAKER_03:

I love they're eating all the stuffing in their mouth. That's what I put myself. So funny.

SPEAKER_02:

My notes like they eat crazy.

SPEAKER_03:

And they've got their own ramen or whatever that is. Yeah, and they have like their names on each pole. It's like that's simple. It's great brand.

SPEAKER_02:

I will say animes and like uh more Asian uh you know cartoons, they always make me so hungry. Yeah, the food looks amazing. I was watching at like 7 30 a.m. Like my stomach, I'm like, no, wait till you finish notes. You don't have much time to you record. Um, but then uh Bobby calls and is like, hey, why are you on a plane? Your show's down here. They look down, they see the stadium, like ah, and then they turn around, it's like, we're on a plane full of demons. Um they all try to be scary, but uh they keep like uh oh yeah. So all the the you just see the demons, one's like watering a plant with coffee, one's just pressing buttons at the plane, the other one's just putting the seatbelts together, and uh all the demons are trying to be scary to them, but then they just keep burping because they just ate so much food. It's so good. Um, so then they fight, and while they're singing how it's done, which is probably my oh yeah, my favorite song. That's what's um and they easily defeat the demons and then they skydive into the stadium. Yeah. And the audience is like, this seems up to snuff. I would watch this band. Nothing weird is happening. This is total normal stuff.

SPEAKER_03:

If your your artist comes skydiving into the stadium, that's pretty awesome.

SPEAKER_02:

So do you think the audience members in this movie know that magic exists, or are they blind to it and just think everything is really cool effects?

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, I think I think they're completely oblivious to anything that's happening.

SPEAKER_02:

Because they make it seem like, whoa, that was really cool special effects. How did they do that? It's like and eventually like you have people teleporting all around you, and y'all seem A-okay with it, and then a giant demon face in the background. Like it kills that one demon, and they're like, wow, great effects. Great effects. Never seen this before. Um, so while singing, we see the barrier that keeps the demons at bay, like surrounding the whole town, essentially. Um, and then like right under the ground, you see a bunch of demons like smacked up against the wall. And it's like, ah, this is great. Trying to get out. And this is when I was like, this movie's fucking going. Let's go, baby. So in the underworld, we see G Maw punishes his demon minions for being defeated by Huntryx and failing to deliver human souls. G Ma is then approached by one of his oldest demons, Ginyu, who comes up with an idea for how to combat the Huntryx.

SPEAKER_03:

His backstory kind of sucks. Yeah. It's a good story. Um, it's Ginu, not Gin.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Yeah. Until you rent find out his real reason.

SPEAKER_03:

What's his oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Yeah. Well, we'll get there. So uh he and four other demons transform themselves into the Shaja Boys, a demon boy band that is going to target Hunterx fans.

SPEAKER_03:

When they all show up, they're all just like posing. Yeah, it's so ridiculous. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

That was like all the little stuff that I loved about this video.

SPEAKER_03:

The demons of the crowd are like, this is gonna work.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, this is an excellent idea. And finally, we'll have good music down here. Um, so they're gonna target the Hun Trix fans, which will bring the what'd you call it? On moon? On moon, yeah, uh, down. Jima notes that G Ginu must want something out of this, and Ginu simply says he wants his painful memories erased. Hell yeah. Which I get, because you know he made a mistake back in the day, 400 years ago. Now he's like, can we like not constantly think about this? Sorry, excuse me. It's okay.

SPEAKER_03:

It's like the what's that one movie with Jim Carrey where he wants his memories, memories erased? He should have just gone to Green Hall.

SPEAKER_02:

Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind. Snake's like, come on, no, I know that movie. Um, so Hunter's is set to take a hiatus after the last show, but while Mir and Zoe are in the process of relaxing, couch, couch, couch. Totally understand that. That's me on the way home.

SPEAKER_03:

And their couch looks so comfortable.

SPEAKER_02:

I know, it's giant. I wish I was a rich K-pop star. Yeah. Even though I guess you never get to enjoy your couch.

SPEAKER_03:

Um they got all their junk food ready to go. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Rumi goes ahead and announces that the launch of their next hit single, golden, which means they have to start promoting it right away because they come in because they are getting ready for the couch. And then Rumi's just like, launch, and then goes into her giant wardrobe thing and finally gets her golden outfit. Yeah. And then kind of comes up behind the other guys uh because they learn, like, oh, your new single's launching. They're like, Rumi, no, we just wanted to couch. And while they're recording their song for a music video, Rumi's voice begins to crack.

SPEAKER_00:

No.

SPEAKER_02:

And she's hitting some high notes there. Yeah, it's like, I think it's okay to crack once, right? You can just like get a drink of water and then try it again. Uh she goes somewhere private where it's revealed through demon patterns on her arms that she is half demon.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

You'd just be like, now these are tattoos.

SPEAKER_03:

Her mom was always like, Don't look at that. Don't look at that. Just be embarrassed by that.

SPEAKER_02:

Don't be who you should just be.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

There's no such thing.

SPEAKER_03:

She had sex with a demon, okay? Yeah, it's like, hey. I mean, I'm assuming. That's how she became, she said your father was a demon.

SPEAKER_02:

He just hit it. He hit it very well, I guess. So a flash rack reveals that Celine knew that Rumi is half demon on her father's side, and she has always made sure to keep Rumi's secret hidden from Mira and Zoe. Rumi tries to sing on a rooftop but can't. It breaks down. When she screams in anger, we see her emit a demon sound wave. It's like red instead of blue. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

It's like Hulk Smash.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. So the girls discuss pushing back some shows, but Rumi expresses how important their next show is because it will seal the demons away for an entire year. Yeah, then they can couch all they want. Yeah, for one year, and then they have to go back on tour.

SPEAKER_03:

And they'd be in such horrible shape after eating all that junk food. Yeah, for real.

SPEAKER_02:

They're gonna be like, well, it's time to work out. Need some demons to come back so we can get some exercise.

SPEAKER_03:

K blob.

SPEAKER_02:

Got their S' so hoping to fix Rumi's voice, the ladies visit Healer Han, played by Daniel Day Kim. Yeah. He was like one of my favorites. I loved his eyes. Who he literally stares deep into the ladies' eyes, except Mira, because she scares him, and determines the type of people they are. His eyes open crazy wide, and he sees that Rumi has walls built up, and we learn that Zoe is a people pleaser.

SPEAKER_03:

He's basically um fortune teller. Yeah, right. That's what they do.

SPEAKER_02:

They just make up he reads he reads Auras. Yeah. Aura. And then like um, so then Han gives them tonics for Rumi's voice. We'll learn later that he just put his own picture on some grape juice.

SPEAKER_03:

That's so true. Homeopathic medicine can be bullshit.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_03:

Some of it's fine.

SPEAKER_02:

You just can't put you just can't put mineral oils all over you and think you're gonna get better, guys. So on their way out, they encounter the five demons, now known as the Saja Boys. They have uh bad hair. And they are jerks. The girls immediately have crushes. Uh you got hard eyes, corn, then there's butter on the corn, then popcorn as uh shirt pops open, abs shirt pops open. Yeah, and then Rumi has a crush on G New. Right? G New G New. Ginu. Gnu leads them alongside romance, mystery, abs, and baby. I don't think baby ever actually says a word the whole time. I don't think he's able to talk. Go, go, go, go. Uh, the tree are enamored by them and still think they are jerks when Ginu knocks Romy down. The Saja boys then go into Town Square and perform their single.

SPEAKER_03:

And he also does that thing where he's gonna help her up.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, then like brushes off his shoulder. And we'll see that again in five seconds. So they um yeah, they go to the town square and perform their single Soda Pop. I did like I did like that song too. It was very catchy.

SPEAKER_03:

Lila Claire will sing that song and then she'll make the cracking the can open noise after she says it.

SPEAKER_02:

So yeah, they perform their song immediately, earning themselves a huge number of fans. The three girls quickly see that they are demons. Um I love that when they start playing their song, like everybody in the audience is dancing, and the three of them are just are just watching, then Zoe starts dancing, and then they all they all three start doing it a little bit. It's like, well, it is kind of catchy. Um, and then like they make hearts come out, and I think Zoe, I think, is the one it's like they can make hearts appear. Catches it and busts it. And then they make like everything super colorful for a minute, and everybody's like, whoa! And it's like, how do you how are they doing this? Y'all should ask questions. And then they vanish in pink pink or reddish smoke. The rap that one guy does. Yeah. I will say, oh man, great intro for these people, though. They did the intros for both little bands, like great. Oh perfect. And then so the Soja Boys announce they will be on a variety show later, though.

SPEAKER_03:

They're busy.

SPEAKER_02:

Whatever this variety show is.

SPEAKER_03:

It's play a game with us.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. So Hunter tries to sneak into the variety show in their leather outfits. I love when they get ready. It's so badass. It's great. Uh but the Shah boys bring them out as special guests, forcing them to join in the show. They have to slide down some slides, which is hard and leather.

SPEAKER_00:

The leather betrayed us.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, and then like I think what they like help them up, it's like one of the audience members, like, they're hot and respectful.

SPEAKER_03:

Yes. Just yells out from the crowd, you can't see their face.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. And then you uh then they like go to bow and the other group bows and they just keep bowing lower and lower.

SPEAKER_03:

When you see them running out the Saja boys running out the door, like one of them's piggybacking on the other one.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, it's like what? So goopy. I love the little demons. They're little, they're little goofballs. It's like, you know what? If we're gonna terrorize everybody, we're gonna have fun doing it. And that's what I respect about the demons. So after the show, Hunterx chases the Saja boys through an alley and into a bathhouse where they start to fight summoned water demons. Yeah. Rumi and Ginu battle in a scuffle. Genu discovers Rumi's secret, but he doesn't let it slip to Mira and Zoe and even helps hide her patterns. And then Hunterx defeats the water demons because he like rips her sleeves and is like they kind of embrace for a second tattoos and then he puts like a little He bandages it. He bandages it so they can't see. Aren't you just like, oh? Yeah, I was. I was just like, all. I mean, I know they're gonna battle again. And then I was like, okay, so this is immediately gonna be a romance movie as well. Um, so the Saja boys escape, and Hunter's has to leave the bath bathhouse because all the men are like, hey, this is a men's bathhouse.

SPEAKER_03:

Thanks for saving us. Yeah, we didn't see any of it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, bathhouse are very, very foggy.

SPEAKER_03:

I didn't know that they were still a thing.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

I guess even in the I guess they are. Well, they have like saunas and stuff, but in Japan and stuff.

SPEAKER_02:

They have some in America. Yeah. Spaws have them. It's just you go there, you get in some really hot water and get naked with some bunch of other dudes. Yeah, it's what me and the boys do every day. That's awesome. Yeah, so G Mall pulls G Nu back to the underworld world briefly to commend him for his plan. It's starting to work. The Saja boys have already started to gather souls. He got like one soul. Yeah. Like there's more of that kind of thing. Well, they had like three going. They're like, ah, this is amazing. These souls are delicious. Um, G Nu says it's good that Rumi is half even because it means. She has shame. Yeah. Bum, bum, bum. Everybody's worst enemy. Shame. She must be Catholic. So the girls look out at the city and see their barriers aren't holding up.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh shit.

SPEAKER_02:

The ladies plan their next course of actions against the demon. They are going to defeat them at the idol wards and they're going to come up with a new song, a diss track. It's like, what? People really love diss tracks these days.

SPEAKER_03:

I don't I've I didn't even hear the one from what's his face. Oh, I guess it was on he played it during the Super Bowl, right?

SPEAKER_01:

Who? The guy.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, Kendrick Lamar. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Was that a diss song? I didn't even know it was until later. It's essentially the diss chong about Drake. Yeah. That's why he says that. Yeah. Uh one of the best diss chong disc tracks ever. Awesome. Obviously, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem are the best at diss tracks right now. So uh Hundrix, don't come after them. Eminem made his career on diss tracks. Yeah, I mean, he pretty much just like, you know what? I'm not I'm just gonna diss everybody no matter what. That's great. Oh, my producer Drake? Yeah, I'm gonna diss him a little bit too myself. Um so yeah, the lady their roomy meets is met by G News Pet Bird and Tiger who's in her an invitation to meet with him. Um, yeah, this is a bit where the tiger knocks over the bird is sighing. Yeah. It's like, uh and I love that like at first you see the bird, it's got two eyes and it like has three eyes all of a sudden. And then he just kind of walks around. You can tell he's a little pompous ass bird. Um and then like the tiger comes out and he looks he looks like the Cheshire cat a little bit, but like way derpier. Yeah, and then comes out, knocks over a pot, and then just keeps trying to tip it back over, but he can't do it. So derpy. And then she's like, just don't worry. Hey, just don't worry about the pot, okay? It's not that big of a deal. But it's nice because when I first saw him, I was like, oh, there's no way these are demon animals. And then it's nice that I read in the notes like, no, they're not demons, they can do whatever you want. They're spiritual animals.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, they're like messengers, Mike Hyp.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, and it seems like they just like to hang out with Ginu. Um, and then so uh she accepts the invitation and they meet on a rooftop where Rumi is initially hostile to Ginu until he explains his backstory. Because 400 years ago, he lived with his mother and sister in destitution. He made a deal with G Maw for a better life. His voice brought him good fortune, and his family were allowed to live in the palace. However, G Maw pulled G Ginu into the underworld, and his disappearance forced his mother and sister back out into the streets where they died without him. That sucks. Ooh. And good thing this is a true story, and there's not gonna be a sadder version after this.

SPEAKER_03:

Why did he pull him down, you know? Is that what happens when you make a deal with the devil?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I mean, you can't make a deal with the devil and work out, and we'll learn that. That's not quite what actually happened. We'll learn soon. Oh the G Nu tells Rumi, Rumi, I don't know, that her markings are like the his due to the a hidden shame. She says she is nothing like him. Yeah, I am not like you. The ladies try to come up, um, then we cut to the they kind of end their thing. Uh, the ladies try to come up with a powerful distract for the upcoming Idol Awards that will send the Saja Boys home and create the golden homoon? Hon moon. Um, and their song is gonna be called Takedown. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Are you ready for Take Down?

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

So we see a montage of the ladies competing in award competition against the Saja Boys. Saja boys win one, the girls win the other, and they're also defeating demons left and right. The Saja boys are gaining more fans, however. Uh Bobby arranges for the Saja Boys to join Hunter's during a fan event. To the ladies' dismay, rumors start flying about the because like the Saja boys come up and it's like, it's okay, we have two tables. Half the audience splits, and then Romy's like, no, let's actually do it together.

SPEAKER_03:

That was funny. Like, yeah, uh Mira was like signing her name, really like scribbling hard. Yeah, it's like coming out of her eyes.

SPEAKER_02:

Like, yeah, two boys next to her. Um, so rumors start flying about their pairings. Uh Romy with Ginu. Yes, the one with the shirt. Yeah. What do you call that? The ship. Yeah. Oh yeah. And uh Mira with abs and romance, Zoe with mystery. While Rumi and Ginu try to keep their commun wait, no, not mystery, baby. My bad. Uh Rumi and Ginu try to keep their communications low-key. At the end of the event, Ginu is touched when a little girl gets him a drawing saying he is a beautiful Saul. Aww. He's gonna he's gonna change his mind. I just know it.

unknown:

It's gonna be.

SPEAKER_02:

And then everything's gonna work out perfectly, and G Maul's not gonna figure out anything about this. No. So Rumi becomes uncomfortable with the lyrics of their new diss track while practicing as she starts to come with terms on who she really is. The bird and tiger hang out with her more. Mira knocks at the door and she tells the tiger to go, but a trash can is knocked over, so the tiger tries to flip it back over with Mira in the room. Good bit. That when that happened, I was like, yes. My only issue is they didn't do it a third time. Yeah. Everything's funny in threes. It's a rule of threes in comedy. Come on, man. Uh Mira starts to notice that something is up with Rumi, but she makes it seem like it's just about the song. Mira thinks she's keeping something from her. Rumi says that she isn't while holding an invitation and a tiger tail behind her.

SPEAKER_03:

I feel like they'd they'd be cool with her.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, they would immediately be cool. Just be like, hey guys, I'm gonna sit down and calmly explain this to you so you don't see it. Mom, banged a demon, dude. Don't know what to tell you. That makes me half human, half demon, but you've known me all your life and we've been working together. Obviously. Obviously, I'm a good guy. So let's close up this portal and maybe my markings will go away. People just gotta communicate in movies. Every movie would end in five minutes if they just communicated most of the time. You have to hide your shame. Yes. And there has to be a movie. So the ladies hear that Saja Boys have amassed more than 50 million fans and secretly taking their souls. We see like one, a demon come out of a Saja Boys poster and suck the soul out of a guy on his phone. When you lose your soul, you just die. Your body just fall over? Well, I think technically, no. But when you do die, you do go to the underworld, I would assume. I don't know, dude. It's obvious. Um, so Rumi goes to Ginu and tells him they should let them win the idol awards to block off the demons and he can stay up top and live a normal life. She talks about how her patterns are a mistake, just like the mistake he made 400 years ago. The two obviously have a crush on each other. Ginu tells Rumi that he doesn't think she's a mistake. It's hot. It's so it's so happy. It's like, oh, they f in this world they found each other. Even with their differences, they're the same.

SPEAKER_03:

What if her dad was his dad?

SPEAKER_02:

That would be crazy. That would be pretty weird. So they are practicing their song, and Rumi is still struggling with the lyrics. Mir and Zoe don't understand the issue. Then the Hunter X goes after demons on top of a train. Mir and Rumi have a fight. She says, Not everything is about Mira's insecurities. It's like, whoa, she's taking it out on other people. You can't do that. They see that the Han Moon is weakening, allowing demons to start spilling into the surface world. The trio perform their new songs, take down in the middle of their fight, but after the demons have been vanquished, they find that all the passengers on the train have been taken.

SPEAKER_03:

What color do you think our Han Moon is? And who's keeping it together? America's God dang. Red, white, and fucking blue, Jason. These colors don't run any other way. Who do you think's holding it up? You think they're working together? Uh I think it's Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber.

SPEAKER_02:

The beeps is doing it.

SPEAKER_03:

It makes a lot of sense.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, not anymore. I guess it's Kendrick Lamar. You can't do it alone. Yeah, you can't. Well, I guess technically the people that are best at diss tracks are Kendrick Lamar and Eminem, so maybe they're the ones holding that. Hell yeah. Down for that. Um, I will say in this movie, something that was a little disappointing because we've gone through a few action sequences since the first one, and the action sequences are just okay. They're mid. It's like I don't get it. It's like, hey, it's animation. Well, the I I kind of wanted them to be more brutal. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Or they kind of just turn into whiffs of smoke.

SPEAKER_02:

Or more like, I don't know, flashy. I don't know. It is just like, eh.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, they're fine. Yeah. Nothing special.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. So Rumi meets with Jin Jin Yu again after expressing the need for keeping the Han Moon up and how it will potentially rid them of both their demonic afflictions. The two start to acknowledge their feelings for one another with the song Free. I did like the song Free. It was cute. Jin Yu promises to let the Saja boys lose at the outer words so Huntry can keep the Han Moon up. His love for Rumi keeps G Ma's voice at bay.

SPEAKER_03:

I do like the Saja Boys' entrance into the final concert. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

And this is also where we learned that uh bird's hat was actually meant for the tiger, but the bird cat's to land. Yeah, that bird is evil. That was probably the that was the part that made me laugh the most in the whole movie. So when he said that line, I was like, oh god, that's good. But everything's looking up and it seems like everything's gonna be fine. But G Maw pulls Jin Yu back down since he can get inside the heads of his demons and knows that Jin Yu is hoping Rumi can set him free. G Maw then reminds Jin Yu that he lied to Rumi about his past and that he willingly abandoned his mother and sister to live a better life. Don't think you can escape what you are. You're a piece of shit. Yeah, essentially to live a better life. He's like, get the hell out of here, ladies. You go die out there while I eat my delicious looking fucking food and look at myself in the mirror while I eat. Hell yeah. It's beautiful. Yeah, it turns out he made a horrible mistake and was a bad person.

SPEAKER_03:

And he didn't remember that part? Oh no, he did. He just didn't tell her. Oh he wanted to be. Well, he told her they brought them with her. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

But he lied. So it'd be like, oh, don't you like me? Liar. Boys be lying. Pants on board. We're no good. Don't trust boys. So before the idol awards begins, the lady gathered to express that they have their own issues, but they feel more at ease with each other. They realize that takedown is not a sh song to bring together their friends, friends, because it can't even bring them together. Oh yeah. I was like, oh, yeah. Don't diss each other. Sing together. Don't diss people when you could bring love into the world.

SPEAKER_03:

In the same famous pop group forever. Ever. None of us will ever bring it up.

SPEAKER_02:

Until another pop band comes up and then we're forgotten.

SPEAKER_03:

No, it's not gonna be like Beyoncé.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, it's like, what's that one K-pop band that was super popular?

SPEAKER_03:

BTS, maybe BTS, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

And it's just like, what happened to them?

SPEAKER_03:

Uh I think once you reach 25 that they just put you in a meat grinder.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, okay. Because I will say, like, I did really like the Boys in Love or whatever it was called. I can't remember. I actually really love that song because they played on SNL and I was like, oh shit. Yeah, lots of people love that shit. I liked it. But like none of those, none of the songs really hit like the level of good I thought that song was. So that's why I was kind of disappointed. The the one K-pop song I I've ever really listened to and enjoyed. I'm like, these songs weren't as good. But also, maybe if they played it in like the more native language, I might have liked it more because that's how the BTS sang that shit.

SPEAKER_03:

Even in um K-pop demon hunters, they have Korean lyrics within the English lyrics. Yeah, I've noticed that.

SPEAKER_02:

I was like, you could have just done the whole thing in Korean lyrics. I probably would have enjoyed that. Fucking Americans, man. I have no idea what BTS was singing, but I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_02:

Um where was I? Yeah, so they decide that they're gonna sing Golden. Um, so time for the auto warts. The Sodger boys are supposed to start first, but they are fighting, but they are supposedly fighting. So Huntryx goes to start their performances on stage, beginning with Golden. So they start the song together, then Rumi is out alone while Mir and Zoe prepare to join her. But to see what looks like demons carrying Bobby away, uh, but they were demons in disguise. Shit. While Mir and Zoe deal with them, two of the Saja boys disguise themselves as Mir and Zoe and join Rumi on stage for takedown to her confusion. She's like, We weren't doing this. Oh yeah, they start fighting. Yeah, and then like the demons rip off Rumi's sleeves, revealing her markings. Mir rips off her shirt and she's got tassels or pasties on her food. Hey, this is a kids' film. Get that nonsense out of here.

SPEAKER_03:

Super Bowl is a kid's show.

SPEAKER_02:

No, it's not. I don't even know who the Super Bowl's.

SPEAKER_03:

They market beer to kids.

SPEAKER_02:

Sure, they definitely market food. It's insane. Um, Mir and Zoe realize they were tricked and run back to the stage where they see Rumi as she really is. Rumi screams and breaks all the lights. Audience is like has to be confused at this point. Like, it's a good show. These why the lights explode? I got glass in my eyes now. This thing breaks. Why were they ripping her sleeves? Um, so yeah, the D oh it's all very theatrical. Yeah, very they're loving it. It would have been a great concert to go to, though. All their concerts would have been great. They're insane. Yeah, they're all great. While Rumi tries to explain herself, Mir and Zoe feel betrayed and don't want to hear her. She should have just told them from the first from the beginning. When she yells, the red glow happens, and Mir and Zoe put up their weapons. Fucking shitty ass friends, man. I guess you lied. You don't immediately like, we're gonna kill you. Yeah, you do. Like, you know what? Actually, we will listen to you for a second, because we knew their whole life. So Rumi thinks that Gin Yu set it all up, and he is forced to tell her that he lied to her and admits that he betrayed his family for his own selfish gains. We are demons. All we get to do is live with our pain and misery. It's what we deserve. Yes. Which is when that line said, I was like, hmm, well, I have issues with that statement because Rumi didn't do anything wrong. Yeah, not really. She's I mean, I guess it's kind of a little bit of the point, is like you have your your family demons, and like you could well, we'll get to that whenever maybe.

SPEAKER_03:

Maybe she's born with it. Maybe she's born.

SPEAKER_02:

But it's just like, I don't know, like you can't like look at an alcoholic and be like, ah, you're half you're half normal and half alcoholic. It's like, no, I don't think it works that way. You don't know what's going on. Yeah. So uh Rumi is left alone while the Saja boys invite fans to the Namason Tower at midnight for a special live performance. G-Maw power grows and he gets inside the heads of Mira, Zoe, and Bobby to make them face their insecurities. Um, Rumi goes to uh Celine now that her secret has been exposed. Even after all this time, Celine still tries to find a way to help Rumi cover it up and pass it off as a trick from G Ma to Mira and Zoe. And it's like, lady, at some point you just gotta be like, you know what? Let me help you through this. Yeah, she should be wiser, I feel like. Right? It's like, come on, man. So that was another thing. I feel like she needed to have more roles. She needs to pop up a few more times than she did throughout the movie. Yeah. I'm just like, because there was a point where I was like, I don't, I forgot who she was. I was like, we've seen her. Yeah, mention her one time. We've seen her beginning. Like twice, I think the whole time. Yeah. Like the very beginning. And then she's like, maybe I could just tell them. They're like, no, we don't see her anymore. And it's like, you sure about that? You sure about that? Sure we don't want to see more of her. So when Celine cannot even look Rumi in the eye, she declares that she is glad the Han Moon is going to be destroyed, and she embraces her demon self. Damn, dog.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

We're like, is she gonna be bad? Is she gonna be good? But we know that the movie would not end like that. So the Saja boys gather everyone at the tower in preparation for taking their souls. The boys begin singing their new song, Your Idol. I did like this song. Yeah, that one was good. Yeah, I like it at the beginning. You gave me a heart. Now I'm here for your soul.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, and they they start off the song. There's this progression of three notes that is like famous for being in like dirges, like really sad, like Oh, really? The funeral songs, like basically throughout history. It was really neat.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, that really makes sense because you know it's like Jin Yu's doing something he doesn't really want to do, so it's kind of a sad song to start. But then they're like, wait, we're capable.

SPEAKER_03:

And how many concerts per night are these people putting on? They must be- I know these concerts must be free. They must be very busy.

SPEAKER_02:

All these concerts have to be free concerts. They have to be. Because people just get to go to them.

SPEAKER_03:

Nobody has jobs. They got private planes. They're they're charging.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. So suddenly Rummy arrives and begins to scene what it sounds like, which breaks Mira and Zoe from their trances and allows them to rejoin her. G Ma grows enraged and tries to fight back and sends more demons, but they get destroyed. Yeah. He fires a blast of energy towards Rumi. However, Genius steps in front of her, taking the hit and telling Rumi that she has to set him free with her she has set him free with her love. Oh. No. So touching. So touching. That was awesome.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Cool boss fight.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, part of me was like, could it be more than just a giant wall with a face? Yeah. You know? No. No? Okay. It's a fire. I thought it was just fire. Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a fi Oh fire, a wall of fire. Yeah, a wall of fire.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

So he gives her his restored soul, which helps empower Rumi. Hun trix proceeds to continue their song, destroy the other four Saja boys, and Rumi delivers the final blow to G Ma, vanquishing the Demon King back to the underworld and restoring the Han Moon. Yay. They did it. They Han Mooned it. Following the reunion, the ladies decide to take a much-earned break. Rumi finally joins Mir and Zoe at the bathhouse now that she doesn't have to hide herself anymore. And ladies all tearfully express their love for one another.

SPEAKER_03:

First of all, baths are gross. Yeah. Uh especially baths. Other people.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, I assume you definitely shower if you get in the bathhouse.

SPEAKER_03:

So my father-in-law has a hot tub at his place. Ooh, and uh he is an Airbnb, so people came over and they spilled a bunch of beer in it and then put the lid on it. And the apparently beer ferments really quickly when it's in a hot tub.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep.

SPEAKER_03:

It's kind of like what it does. Yeah, that's gross.

SPEAKER_02:

It was all brown. That's why you're not supposed to drink when it's a little bit more.

SPEAKER_03:

It's like he thought it was it was like poop, but it was just beer. Did he charge them?

SPEAKER_02:

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03:

I hope he did. Yeah. Because that's terrible. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, yeah, hot tubs are some of the grossest things ever, but man, they feel so good. I can only be in one for like five minutes, and then I'm like, I'm too hot.

SPEAKER_03:

Like, I can't handle like you're not supposed to spend a long time.

SPEAKER_02:

I don't like boiling in water, turns out.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Yeah. It'll cook like if you put a baby in there, it'll cook that baby. Delicious. Tender.

SPEAKER_02:

It's my favorite meal in an Airbnb. A cooked baby. A cooked goose. So after leaving the bathhouse. After leaving the bathhouse, they see some young fans and decide that they've had enough of a break. They took five minutes to themselves. The ladies approach the excited fans, as others gather near them. Up above, Genius Bird and Tiger look upon them with a smile. The end. Yay. Aww. I want more bird and tiger. Yeah, I know. They need just give me like a 30-minute short of just adventures of bird and tiger. I mean, how Netflix has not already came out with that, I don't know. It doesn't have to be a full movie, just like a little short film. Yeah, it could be a cool in-between film. It's something like that I liked about Wes Sanderson. He came out with uh like three or four short films on Netflix. And I was like, why is not every director doing this? Yeah, it's like Netflix. This is what Netflix should be doing. Netflix wants content and do it. And since every TV show they make on there takes five years between seasons, they might as well just start doing short films. It's crazy. So, Jason, what's the point of the movie?

SPEAKER_03:

The homeopathic medicine is dangerous.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes. Grapefruit will not heal your voice. But it's about it's about it's about accepting yourself for who you are. And that if you're in honest with yourself and your closest friends, then nothing can stop you. As long as those friends aren't dead. Yeah. Even they can't stop you when you have your friends.

SPEAKER_03:

We sing so hard, it scares demons away.

SPEAKER_02:

Essentially, whatever issues you have, tell your friends and they'll help you through it.

SPEAKER_03:

With nothing.

SPEAKER_02:

And then and then you'll you'll save the world. It won't be as cool as this movie, but you'll save the world in your own your own world.

SPEAKER_03:

Get your knife, Jesse. I've got a problem.

SPEAKER_02:

It's like, please tell me we're not gonna kill somebody. Please tell me we're not gonna kill somebody. Yeah. It's like we're killing somebody. No. Alright, yeah. I mean, it's pretty ba it's pretty much just child plot. Just you know, uh child uh morals, you know? Sure. Yeah. So Jason, we're gonna move to our yeah. And maybe it's just because first time watching it, watching it in the morning at like 7 a.m. Just being like, I don't know. I feel like if I watch this like midday, just on a lazy day, I probably got more enjoyment. Probably not the best film to watch at 7 a.m. in the morning. No, I watch it at night.

SPEAKER_03:

I think you smoke Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Smoke cigarettes. Yeah, yeah. Just kidding. Oh, that's gross. Come on, kids, smoke your cigarettes and watch K5 DVD notice. That's the point of the movie. So, Jason, we're gonna move on to our next category: the good, the bad, the ugly, the fine. It's where we discuss something good about the film, something we like, something bad, something we didn't like, something ugly ugly, which is something that didn't age well. The fine something that did age well. What do you got for the good?

SPEAKER_03:

I don't know. I just I like this type of animation. Yeah. It's it's really polished, like and then when it's not polished just for a moment or it's changes a little bit, it really like gets more cartoonish, I guess, in a way. Yeah, which is great. It's it's like with the credits.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Um, whenever it kind of like very like it's not Japanese because it's green, but you know, like the very like I don't know, the type of animation they use for like their faces, it's very like classic like Japanese-esque looking animation or whatever. And like uh in like they're eating like the foods and stuff. I really enjoyed that part, yeah. Um, I put like fun animation and I love the voice acting. The voice acting was great in this movie. That was had like a lot of like good um Korean like stuff movie stars, like Daniel Day Kim. He's like very popular. That was Bossy. Uh no, that was King Jong, who is in hangover and community and all this. Yeah, okay. He and he's on every game show right now as well. Um, but yeah, I thought the voice acting was really good. Um for the Bad I put songs are pretty mid. Sure. Which is crazy because they're all so popular and everybody loves a song. And I was like, oh no, this was most people's selling point, and I thought it was just fine.

SPEAKER_03:

Definitely has a type. I think it was really fun to uh it's a fun movie to watch with my kids. Uh that would be my another good for me. And then we love we like watching it together.

SPEAKER_01:

We sing the songs together, so it's kind of you know, fun movie to watch together. Yeah. As far as bad, it's okay if you don't have any.

SPEAKER_02:

No, there's definitely something It's fine that I'm the one that's more negative about a movie for once than you. No, it's yeah, I I can't really think of anything bath. Bath, yeah. Jason hates bath, that's why he stinks all the time. Shower. Shower once in a while, you know. Yeah. Uh what's the ugly for you?

SPEAKER_01:

Something that didn't age well. Maybe the well I guess part of my bad could be also the ugly, like some of the action scenes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

It just could have been better. It just could have been b I know it's a kid's movie and it can't be like blood and gore and stuff.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Definitely definitely not that. But I do agree that they could they could have been just more better. I don't know. I don't know. It seemed like they definitely, the people that made this movie, had more of a sense of the between the the more the singing and the wasn't action focused. Yeah, and you could tell like it just didn't feel like they had as much love for the action as they did for, you know, when they're all singing and all the a transitions and stuff like that and the story, you could tell they felt loved that more than they liked the I feel like fighting. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03:

And that's what got me is like I was really building up to these fighting scenes, and then when they happened, it's kind of a letdown.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah. Um, for my ugly, I put didn't make me cry. And for an animated movie, usually that ups the antsy is when they make me cry, and I'm like, shit, that's a good movie. It's just too happy. It's too much happiness for me. It just like it just didn't build maybe if like there was this a more emotional scene between the three friends coming together, because I felt like it was it never really seemed like they were that close friendship. Yeah, and I think that was kind of a like an issue with the film.

SPEAKER_03:

Maybe maybe that's a normal thing with K-pop groups or just music groups in general, maybe kind of working together. But they're not super friends. Super best friends. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

It just seemed like maybe if the other two girls had more invested in the story, but I get that it's about one person dealing with her trauma and stuff instead of all three of them dealing with it together.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

And I guess I kind of wanted, since it's called they're called Huntryx and K-pop demon hunters with an S.

SPEAKER_03:

That is just you don't know shit about the other two.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, other than like a couple one-liners here and there. That's all you learn about them. Yeah, the one was a black sheep and the other one is uh just a people person just wants to make everybody happy. And which I think that was probably some of the ugly that didn't really work out. But I guess it's more than bad. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Anything ugly I could say. Um Well, we can move to the fine. Um it's great. Kids it's a good kids movie with a good message. Also had something else. Yeah. And you know what? Kids need something better than coconut, you know? Oh my god. Yes. Good point. Yeah. You got anything that aged well for you? I feel like you could put like a watching with your kids. Yeah. It's always gonna age well for you.

SPEAKER_03:

Any any movie that can keep our attention.

SPEAKER_02:

Any kids, any any movie that can seal kids down and shut them up.

SPEAKER_03:

No, it's just uh it creates cool moments.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah, for sure. Especially like if you're like your youngest really likes it, that's gotta be very cute. Yeah, it's adorable. All right, Jason. So now we're gonna move to our next category, double feature. So what what movie do you recommend to go alongside of this movie?

SPEAKER_03:

Well, I was since I was missing it with all the brutality, I would say uh berserk. Berserk. But if there's also um one of my favorite animes is on Netflix. I don't know if you can call it an anime really, but it's Castlevania. It's a series. It's not really an anime, it's been told.

SPEAKER_02:

I've been told to watch that by many of people.

SPEAKER_03:

It's I refuse. It rules, it rules.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah. I've heard a lot of really good things about it. Don't they have like two or three seasons?

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, there's three. Three at least.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Um, I chose the movie The Mitchells versus Machines, which is something I recommended earlier. It did all the things that K-pop Dean Hunter did not do for me.

SPEAKER_03:

It made you cry. Yeah. It was so good when the mom is like being beast mode. Yeah. It's so fun. She's so incredible.

SPEAKER_02:

Very similar animation because it was made by the Sony animation. Um, it's also, I think, produced by the people that did uh Spider-Man Lego movie, Spider, uh Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse. Oh, I think it's a good idea. Those people, yeah. So, and they also, those same producers directed uh 21 Drump Street and 22 Drump Street. So yeah. They pretty much have been nailing every movie they did. And maybe one day we'll get the trilogy of Into the Spider-Verse. But who knows? Because, you know, everything's just gotta take fucking forever now just to come out.

SPEAKER_03:

Spider Pig, come back to us.

SPEAKER_02:

But yeah, if you haven't seen the Mitchell's versus machines, it's a great movie. I did exactly what I said I should have done with K-pop demon hunters. I watched it on a lazy day in the middle of the day, and I cried alone on the couch. But it also has like Maya Rudolph and Danny McBride, two people I love a lot. Livia Coleman's in it, and Eric Andre. Fred Armiston, John Legend, Blake Ruffin, Conan O'Brien, Doug the Pug. Hell yeah. Everybody's in it. And that dog is so funny. I know, it's so good. I it's like pubs. Pugs shouldn't exist because it sucks for them just to live, but damn, are they cute and ugly at the same time? And they're always hilarious in movies. My cat does the same thing with her eyes.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Yeah. So looking at two things at once. It's sucked. I love wonky-eyed animals.

SPEAKER_02:

All right, Jason, that concludes our podcast on K-pop demon hunters. I hope you did not listen to this hoping to hear us go absolutely batshit over it because I'm sorry about that. I was just like, you know, is this a thing? Like you've been talking about it. It's like we have to do it for the podcast, and you know, we took a risk, and this is the risk. I liked it more than you did. Yeah. And so it's just nice that I finally got to feel. That the same thing that you feel about. How does it feel about this, Jesse? It feels good. Clip clop, clip clock. So uh K-pop Dean Hunters or Point Break.

SPEAKER_03:

As for what? Like my Which movie do you like better? I like K-pop Demon Hunters better than Point Hunters. This fucking guy's gotta get out of my podcast. Although point break is funny as hell.

SPEAKER_02:

Get them.

SPEAKER_03:

K-pop Dean Hunters or Blowout. It's got its moments. Oh, K-pop demon hunters. Snake get them. I've already watched this movie like 20 times. Demons, get them.

SPEAKER_02:

Damn. You put a Eminem and Kendrick Lamar put up their lawn moon. Fuck. But hey, you know what? If you were just like, Jesse, wish you went a little more crazy on this movie. Don't worry, because next week I'm gonna go batshit. Because it's one of my favorite comedies that come out in the past 10 years. Game night baby, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams. Group of friends who meet regularly for game nights find themselves entangled in a real life mystery when the shady brother of one of them is singingly kidnapped by gangsters. Hell yeah. That's so awesome. It's so fun. It's great. It's just like um this crazy event happens. They all think it's part of a game. And so they're like going out on the streets doing a mystery, but it's like, oh no, is this real or is this a game? And it's so fun. Uh Jason Bateman's in it, Rachel McAdams. Um, you have Kyle Chandler, Sharon Hogan, Lamorne Morris, who is in um he's uh Winnie the Bish and You Girl, he's in it. Jesse Plemons with um yeah, one of the greatest performances in a movie you'll ever see as an awkward neighbor. Can't wait. So good. You're gonna love this movie. And then Dexter himself, Michael C. Hall's in it. Nice. Yeah. It's a great, fantastic comedy. I can't wait. I love Jason Bateman. It's just like Rachel McAdams. It's like this is one of the last ones that came to theaters because and because it didn't do very well because nobody watches comedies anymore. Uh I don't think the whole world's mad about it since they're always like number one in Spotify, but uh I'm a bit upset about it.

SPEAKER_03:

Some of us are a little bit raw. Yeah. Give us a chance.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, Jason Bateman, put us on your podcast and let us advertise our podcast. No, I'll just be starstruck the whole time. I wouldn't. I'd be like, you think you could be sarcastic? I can be sarcastic too. I'd be so but then I'd be like, oh shit, we got we got Will Arnett here. Sean Hayes. Like, I'd actually struggle a lot. The best voice in the bus, Will Arnett. So that is our conclusion of K-pop Demon Hunters. Make sure you join us next week for game night. Um, please leave us a review. Leave us some comments. You know, follow us, subscribe us, do all the things that you know this world makes us say at the end of podcasts so that we can become popular and get in somebody's algorithm so that we can be shared. Because you know what? That's how this world works, apparently. Ask the K-pop demon hunters.

SPEAKER_03:

Can I have some more?

SPEAKER_02:

I want to be like, that's what the demons are, and I'm the K-poper that's gonna destroy all the needless things we have to do in life. Um yeah, so do all that and you know, tell a friend about us. All right, just be like, yo, these guys didn't like K-pop demon hunters, but they like they like other movies. You know, well, we didn't not like it. We liked it. Yeah, it's a perfectly fine movie. So like, is Jesse gonna say it's a perfectly fine movie again? We'll find it.

SPEAKER_03:

We're gonna go in there with the perfect.

SPEAKER_02:

That yeah, I I had that planned. I knew we were like soon I was done with it. I'm like, I know exactly how to start this podcast. Call it perfectly fine. Um, yeah, join us next week. Whatever. You know, uh, thank you, Joey Prosser, for our intro and outro music and follow my ex at Mr. Joey Prosser. And this has been the We Recommend Podcast. I'm Jesse. I'm Jason.
