A wedding night is supposed to be awkward in a charming way, not “your billionaire in-laws might hunt you to death before sunrise.” That’s the wicked hook of Ready or Not, and we go deep on why this horror comedy still hits so hard years later.

We talk through Samara Weaving’s performance as Grace, a final girl who feels genuinely terrified, funny, and furious all at once. We also dig into Radio Silence’s direction, how they balance suspense with slapstick brutality, and why the mansion setting matters so much: secret passages, trophy rooms, and old-money rituals that turn luxury into a maze. Along the way we share behind-the-scenes facts, filming location trivia, and the satirical Satanism details that make the movie’s cult flavor pop without losing momentum.

Give us a listen!

We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and maybe it will be read on the podcast! werecommendmailbag@gmail.com

Welcome And The Movie Pick

SPEAKER_03

Hello and welcome to the We Recommend Podcast, a movie podcast where every week we recommend a movie for you to watch, and then come back here and listen to us discuss. I'm Jesse. And I'm Jason. It's true what they say. The rich really are different. Because this week we recommend ready or not.

SPEAKER_01

Fuck those people, dude. Holy shit. And waiting until you're already married to say, hey, a slight chance we're gonna hunt you to death.

SPEAKER_03

By the way, every time someone gets married, we have to come back here and potentially murder other person. There's a chance. I just be like, I'm getting to divorce immediately.

SPEAKER_01

Do you ever like do you should you just like drop hints along your like the beginning of the relationship? Like, hey, do you ever think do you ever think that there's like a zero percent chance you might get murdered if you date me?

SPEAKER_03

Hey, uh, when was the last time you said hell Satan?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Recently.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, I think you that's something you need to bring up early. Early.

SPEAKER_03

It's like, uh, have you heard of our Lord and Savior Satan? Oh, what was that? The truth teller, the light bringer. So, what did you think of Ready or Not? I thought I loved it, man. It was so good. It's a fun ride. She's a badass. Yeah. Samara Weaving. Yes. Uh, you want to know who she's related to? No. Uh, yes. Um shit. Is it Hugo Weaving?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So who's that? The Matrix? The bad guy in the Matrix? Lord of the Rings?

SPEAKER_04

What?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think it's like her uncle or something like that. Yeah. They're related. Cool. Isn't that cool? You can kind of tell after you realize it. She also is uh someone that gets um that people say she looks a lot like uh Margot Robbie. She does have very similar facial features. And I'm like, it's because they're blonde and from Australia. Yeah. Like Australia, something new with it. I'm assuming. So, you know, just Americans. We think all people in certain countries look the same.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the the billionaires have like a baby farm down there, and I think they're just busting out Margot Robbie. Just busting everything.

SPEAKER_03

Um, yeah, I think I, you know, I watched this around when uh because this is Radio Silence. It's the movie's directed by Matt Bettinelli

Marriage With A Murder Clause

SPEAKER_03

Open and Tyler Gillette, and they are a part of Radio Silence. They um did the legacy sequels when they rebooted the Scream series. Oh, cool. They did the first two. I'm saying that. Um they also which I actually think their two screams are the worst things that they've done. I'm not saying I don't like them. I do like those movies, but between this and Abigail, yeah, bangers. Yeah, those were two good movies. They they're just so fun, and you know, they're not tied to like a franchise, so they can just kind of do what they want with the everything. And I think it because of that, it works really well. Um, they also started off on YouTube. Um, they were YouTubers, like 2008 and 9 YouTubers. I just remember they the video I remember the most is Alien Prank Gone Wrong. I remember watching that uh dating a girl in high school, and we were just like I would look for scary videos for us to watch on YouTube, and I thought that was gonna be a scary one, so then I watched it and I was like, Oh, this is goofy as hell. Who are they? And then we watched a lot of their things. I didn't realize that was who they were. That's cool. Yeah, it's pretty dope. Um love those guys. And also we talked about them a little bit and uh when we covered our VHS, they did like the like 1031 98 or whatever one where the person's getting like in the attic. In the attic, yeah, yeah. It's like the haunted house one that was really good. Um, they're really great filmmakers and they're they do really good with War.

SPEAKER_01

That was the best one.

SPEAKER_03

And I haven't seen Ready or Not Here I Come, which is a sequel. Um, and I would like to thank them for properly choosing the title for um uh the sequel, because the worst possible thing for the Now You See Me series is that the first movie is Now You See Me, and the second movie is Now You See Me Too. No, it should be Now You Don't. Now You See Me, Now You Don't. It's like, how did you mess this up? But with Ready or Not, the second one says, Ready or not, here I come. As soon as they're done filming, they're like, let's do it again. Yeah. Um, I haven't seen it, but I I heard it was pretty good, so I can't wait for it. It's supposed to be coming to Disney Plus, I think, soon. So you'll be able to watch it with fucking ads, of course.

SPEAKER_01

I fucking love that Disney. Everything, all these movies have Disney's fucking name on it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I know it's so much. It's like smashing a girl's face in Disney Plus.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're not just princesses singing the birds anymore. Yeah. We're everything. We own you.

SPEAKER_03

Thank goodness they got Hulu. Otherwise, they'd be out of movies to put on their stream service. Um, so is there nothing greater than when characters you begin to hate just get the get just get beat the fuck down? No, it's amazing. Becky, right? You know, she she starts off, she's like, oh, she's gonna be the good one in the movie, right? Uh and then like she starts choking her, and it's like, I don't fucking hate Becky now. And then just like bashing her in the head. It's like, I'm just like, I'm gonna break my vape in my hand. Because you're so excited. So pumped up. Oh, it's just always so good. It just makes me feel alive.

SPEAKER_01

I know, I yeah, I felt pretty turned on. Like just imagining my wife beating my mom to death was just so good.

SPEAKER_03

I hope she doesn't listen to this episode.

SPEAKER_01

She doesn't. I hope she doesn't.

SPEAKER_03

She at least listened to one. She did recommend. She chooses one.

SPEAKER_01

I'm sorry. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Sorry, my mom? I'm sure she's never seen Reddit or not, so she'll be all right. Um, one of her favorite movies is John Wick. Your mom's? Yes. Does that make sense? My mom loves the John Wick series too. Isn't that wild? No, it makes sense for my mom. Yeah, yeah. Mine too. I mean I feel like a lot of my movie taste actually came from my mom, weirdly. She was big into X-files and a lot of like Long is good night. She was into like all the little s like her my sci-fi love comes from her. Nice essentially. I don't know where my horror love comes from. Probably the

Why Radio Silence Works

SPEAKER_03

not uh being watched while I'm just watching insane fucking R-rated horror movies when I was a kid. Um what do you think of the concept of hunt like you know uh the most dangerous game concept where it's like a group of people are hunting one person uh in terms of like story. I mean, I feel like there's a lot of similar things. I mean like Hunger Games is kind of similar, except it's a group of people hunting each other. Yeah. But and just in terms of there's one person and it's a bunch of people trying to kill this one person and they gotta hunt them down.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like it always works for me. Well, it it works. I would say it works sometimes. Like the movies like the fugitive. Yeah. It's kind of like they're all hunting one guy.

SPEAKER_03

Just try not to kill him, but they're just you know. Well, I think it's the concept of there is no justifiable reason for them to be doing it.

SPEAKER_01

They're just But if it's for sport and it's for Yeah. For f like if they're just doing it for sport, which is not this movie, uh it feels pretty fucked up. Yeah. But in this movie, when they do it because they think they're all gonna die, but if they don't, yeah, I get it.

SPEAKER_03

I remember I remember growing up and I watched a movie um that was similar to this. I think Ice T is the one being hunted. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_03

He's uh Is it surviving the game? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

They throw out all the bullets to the crowd, like everybody has a gun and then they throw it. Ice T is there.

SPEAKER_03

He's like the leader of the Oh yeah, so it's uh no, it's like a homeless man is hired as a survival guide for a group of wealthy businessmen on a hunting trip in the mountains, unaware that there are killers who hunt humans for sport. And that he is their new prey prey. It's actually directed by Ernest Dickerson. Um which I think is that the guy who did Is it Ah, yeah, the director of Juice, um uh cinem cinematographer on Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X. He also directed some uh 11 episodes of The Walking Dead. Interesting. Did is he the one that did I'm just uh apparently talking to myself. Um did he do New Jack City? I thought that he was the director that did that. I remember I I had that for some reason I had that movie on uh DVD and I watched it a lot. I can't remember it at all. But I don't know, he directed Juice, which uh I haven't seen and I really want to, but it's supposed to be really good. And he's directed a lot of good things. Uh but yeah, um Surviving the Game. So that was one of the ones I remember, and I I I love that movie because of it. Because I was like, it's like hell yeah, you just want like Ice T just to beat the shit out of all these guys.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's got Gary Buser Bucey in it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no. Yeah. F. Maria Abraham. Oh, I thought you were talking about the pest? Oh, the pest. Is that the I actually have seen the pest is that the It gets hunted by rich people in a jungle. Man, I've told the drugs.

SPEAKER_03

I've seen a lot of movies about this.

SPEAKER_01

This is a really famous. I'm looking up the one where Ice Cube um Ice makes people fight to the death. Ice T. Ice T. Anyway, the it's the same idea. Uh it's like Hunger Games. They everybody has a gun and they're like, you all owe me money. And Ice T throws out everybody has a gun. He throws this, so they throw out a billion bullets to the crowd of people, and like they all just have to start killing each other. Oh, that sounds awesome. The person who wins gets his debt relieved and they win a bunch of money.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, nice. If anybody out there knows the name of that movie, uh, since we can't find it, uh let us know. Um, and also watch The Greatest Game. It's just like a classic 90s like movie that you watch and then never think about again, and then all of a sudden it's like you remember, shit. I actually like that movie. Why have you not thought about it? I don't remember it at all. Like I can't, I was trying to think. Yeah. Um, so um, how do these in-laws compare to yours?

SPEAKER_01

My I am so lucky. I have great in-laws.

The Thrill Of Watching Villains Lose

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I've met them. My wife has pretty dope. Bad in-laws. My parents are the worst. Yeah. My parents are more like these people, where they're they're not rich. They're not rich. But they um they're very they have a lot of opinions.

SPEAKER_03

They have the same sentiments as the rich people.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

My in-laws are great. Um, most of them that I met are all pretty cool. They all liked me a lot. So yeah, man. We lucked out on in-laws for sure. Yeah. Um, and if these were my in-laws, I would have not married them. No. Anybody, any in-laws that have just like an older woman that is literally sitting there, I don't know, but staring at you, death staring at you.

SPEAKER_01

That is true. But if you also find out five minutes later that she's a billionaire and she's gonna leave you all her money, then I'll be like, I could put up with some stairs.

SPEAKER_03

That is true. Put up with a lot of shit. As long as they don't try to kill me. But then it's just like if let's say when your husband or wife does die, and then like you get the money, and then you have to deal with all the shit that that's gonna come from that.

SPEAKER_01

I would say with if you ever date like a super rich person, I think the odds of getting killed by the family are never zero. Yeah, definitely zero.

SPEAKER_03

Especially the older you get, they're like, oh, we can just off both of them actually. Then we get all the money. Yeah. Oh man. I just think there's something about this movie that I feel like it gets accurate like perfectly is just the fact that people will do some shit for some money.

SPEAKER_01

Fuck yeah, dude.

SPEAKER_03

Like, no joke.

SPEAKER_01

Like the goat whatever goat pit. The pit.

SPEAKER_03

The death goat pit. Fucking hey, dude. Oh. We're not after that point, I was like, you're gonna die either way, girl, because of infection to that hand. You're losing that hand no matter what at this point. You just fell into a death. Yeah. One body's been down there for 30 of years.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I always thought about whenever I used to work on a chicken farm, and with the dead chickens, you just mix them in with the manure and it gets really hot. Yeah. And it just melts the bodies, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Humans. Like you always think of pig farms. Throw a body in that chicken farm manure. Yeah. That shit will burn up so fast, all the bones will just disappear.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, it's like uh in the Everglades, right? It's like all the bacteria and stuff just like feeds off the bones. I think that's part of it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's insane.

SPEAKER_03

So if you find a lot of murder, is looking at a way to get rid of some bodies.

SPEAKER_01

Tyson. Tyson chicken. Tyson chicken. Calling you out, Tyson. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

We're coming after big chickens.

SPEAKER_02

Their CEO

Most Dangerous Game Movie Rabbit Holes

SPEAKER_02

is a big chicken, a giant in a mansuit.

SPEAKER_03

Hell yeah. That's gotta be a family guy, or all right. We're gonna hop into some facts. So, um the a lot of the film was filmed at Casaloma in Toronto, Ontario. And that house kicks an ass. Yeah. Get ready, bro. Because it is designated heritage property and is a museum that is open to the public. You can take tours of the building and learn about its history. You can even walk through some of the secret passages. Cool. Many movies were filmed there, uh, including Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak. Noise. Uh, the Vin Diesel masterpiece, The Pacifier, and X-Men, the first one. Oh, that's the mansion. Yeah. Yeah, dude. It's like wow. It's like, wow, if you light it differently, it's uh pretty noticeable, I think. Fucking Wolverine just walks out of them. Oh, wrong movie. Sorry, Bob. Sorry, Bob.

SPEAKER_01

Have you seen Gene? Yeah, Gene comes out after him with a messed up hair. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um, so the Le Damas family uh dominion of board games is based on now defunct game manufacturers, Milton Bradley Company and Parker Brothers. Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers games are now owned by Hasbro. Dude, I bet they did have rituals. They probably did. All rich people have some have some weird ritual.

SPEAKER_01

Um so the Is that why there was always that card in Monopoly that was like murder your family?

SPEAKER_03

Go straight to hell and never return.

SPEAKER_01

Do not, Pasco.

SPEAKER_03

You win the game, but your soul is taken by Satan.

SPEAKER_01

Kill a bride.

SPEAKER_03

It's my favorite card. So the uh within the Levaian Satanism, the term shem hamporash is used during rituals as outlined in the satanic Bible. The term is essentially an equivalent of hallelujah in the sense that it is taken to mean hell Satan when used in this context to cooperate with Levayan Satanism's objective of satire of Satanism objective of satirizing traditional religious practice.

SPEAKER_01

Fuck yeah, dude. Sea shell sells seashells by the seashell.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I should have been doing some uh voice work here.

SPEAKER_01

You just yeah, listen to Wren.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But I I feel like every time I hear something about the satanic Bible, it is always just literally it just making fun of Christianity.

SPEAKER_01

That's all it is. It's like I mean, I I can't take real people who really worship Satan. I can't take them seriously. Yeah. It's ridiculous. It's like, what are you doing, guys? Come on. Like, are you do you think the first people spoke in Latin? No, dude. They spoke with sticks. Why did Satan wait like 2,000 years to pick a language? Yeah, for right.

SPEAKER_03

Um uh oh, this is one of my favorites. And if there's ever a fact about a movie that we do that involves Billy Madison, I will say it. So, exterior uh shots of the mansion from the film were Parkwood estates in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, which are the same estate grounds used in. Billy Madison. Hell yeah. That hell's fucking huge. What are you doing, little penguin? Oh, I see what's going on. I still can't believe that is what most of that movie's dialogue is. I would not most, just 80%. Love that movie though. Um Marta Robbie was considered for the role of Grace before Samara Weaving was cast.

SPEAKER_01

The two actresses are noted for their similar Like, you're too expensive, but is there someone else that looks exactly like? Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_03

It's like uh she was already in well, I mean, she was already in Wolfle Wall Street. Her her pay's been boosted. Fuck yeah. Um, but they're noted for their simil physical appearance, being of similar age, Robbie is born in 90s, the 1990, weaving is born in '92, and both being Australians. And Hollywood is like, they're the same. Exactly. Interchangeable now. Um so Label means the lease agreement in French. Mr. Labelle allows the family their wealth. So it's kind of like they're leasing their wealth and they have to pay it back, but they can sacrifice or goat sacrifices, I guess.

SPEAKER_01

Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And uh Mr. Labelle is an anagram for Balal, a demon referenced in biblical and later religious traditions. Balal? Balal. Bal? B-A-A-A.

SPEAKER_01

B-E-L-I-A-L. Balal, yeah. Balal. I guess. That was in it was in the what's the video game?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, um Buck. Is it Devil May Cry? He's probably been in everything. Yeah. He just won't stop fucking showing up. Speaking of him, he is associated with wickedness, corruption, impurity, and evil personified.

SPEAKER_01

And leather, tight leather, and big titties. I did.

SPEAKER_03

Well, uh uh when the movie started, and you know, it shows and it shows, it opens up on the board game, which is essentially blah blah.

SPEAKER_01

It's like the Joker face, but it's like the devil jokers.

SPEAKER_03

And it's just like, did you immediately think like in my head I was immediately like, shit, this is a cult movie, isn't it? And then I was right. And I was like, I love cult movies, this is amazing. Yeah, I didn't know what the thing it's I was like, so and like throughout, I'm like, so he's definitely gonna be Satan. And then it turns out he's Satan. So uh Grace um originally dies in the earlier drafts of the script after being successfully sacrificed by Alex and his family, but the producers change it to give Grace surviving and her in-laws, including Alex being killed after failing to complete the ritual before dawn in their original script.

SPEAKER_01

That's what it was. So and then they're like, let's just make the whole movie about this, about Grace. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I think there is supposed to be like her journey and then it just like anti-traumatic killing her.

SPEAKER_01

Right in the middle or in the middle.

SPEAKER_03

I actually was thinking, well, no, like I mean, it we'd have this whole movie, but you know, like whenever they go to stab her, it like works and they kill her and it ends like that. Oh no. I actually think would kind of be a fun idea, like if they do it and then you're just kind of like, all right. Now what? So I do have that tea time, so I guess I better get on it. But then it but if it just had that feeling of just like, all right, they did it. Would have anything actually ever happened? Well, nobody wants to see it. That would just been a fun little like Was this pointless or was this like a real thing?

SPEAKER_01

I don't think anybody wants to see rich people be successful.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, that's true. That's true. It would I think it it would just have been a very like uh a very non-American ending that would have been kind of fun.

SPEAKER_01

Anti-capitalist? No, pro-capitalist for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Well, it's just like because like a lot of um British and other like horror movies from other countries, like a lot of them don't have like a the person lived at the end. It's usually like a very like shite uh like the good person has. Yeah, well, not even that. Sometimes it's just like, yep. Sometimes things just don't fucking work. That's true. Um but uh in America, everything works out for the underdog. Almost never ever. Um also before we hop into the plot, um pop, right? They just pop at the end.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, exactly. That's exactly how I described it to Madeline. Yeah, it's like they just go pop like when the kids they just walk behind the walls and pop, pop, pop.

SPEAKER_03

It's like I I was ecstatic. Loved it when it happened the first time I saw it. I was like, what? Uh yeah, I was like, I had a feeling like the little the bell little thing was gonna happen where we're gonna see like just a glimpse of him, and like that was I thought that was gonna be the paranormal aspect of it. I knew at some point we'd probably see that, but

Trivia That Changes The Watch

SPEAKER_03

pop.

SPEAKER_01

I know, I loved it. And I thought maybe there would be like you remember the end of Blade when there was kind of like he popped.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But there was a build up. Yeah. He like exceeded. Kind of ballooned out. Yeah. And the unexpected pop is so much better.

SPEAKER_03

I love it. And well, it's also it just because it gives you that feeling of because you know, they open the curtains, they all act like vampires. Right. So stupid. But then it's just that feeling of everybody's like, shit. So none of this was real. And then really dumbass Helen comes after them and then pop. And then her starting to laugh is so fantastic. It is just it's just, it's rare that you see a movie that the entire movie happens and it's great. And you're just like, uh, she's just gonna live and it's just gonna be whatever. Right? It's gonna be like this is gonna end like all movies end. And then just to have the nice surprise of like one of the best endings in horror in the last 10 years happens. Yeah. It's perfect. It's so good. Give if these people want to do a movie, let them do it.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like though, as she's at when the police show up, the they come back to her, they're like, You got some splaining to do. Yeah. I know. Where are all the bodies?

SPEAKER_03

It's like it is curious, and it's like, how do you explain this?

SPEAKER_01

Hey, you, you're covered in blood. You might know something about all this.

SPEAKER_03

It's like luckily, you can just be like, uh, somebody came in and murdered everybody.

SPEAKER_01

They popped. They popped. I don't know how else to say it. It's fucking popped.

SPEAKER_03

It is popped. For anybody that's in the community, pop pop. Cool. I have a but uh let's get into the plot of 2019's

Plot Breakdown From Deal To Hunt

SPEAKER_03

ready or not. Before we do that, while we're doing this, we want you to go through I think what the point of the movie is. It's pop. Um, and just let us know what you think it is. There's a link in the description that you can click on, or go to the very bottom and go to recommend mailbag at gmail.com. We've been doing two episodes back to back. It gets harder and harder for me to talk as we do that, apparently. And the coffee is wearing off, which is either gonna be a good thing or a bad thing. Sometimes it's good because I'm like, I'm talking too fast on coffee, and now I can relax a little bit. So it is 1989 inside the Lay de Moss Mancham. Siblings Daniel and Alex are running around while being followed by a man. Daniel hides Alex in a closet before he is approached by the man. Charles, the new husband of the boy's aunt Helen. Uh Charles pleads with Daniel to help him as he has just been wounded and is being hunted. Instead, Daniel alerts the rest of the family to Charles' presence. Helen tries to save her husband, but the family shoots him with an arrow and drags Charles into a room to his grisly fate. Yeah, they sacrifice him, and he's in the pit later you see a guy with two arrows in him, and that's him. That's him. Um pretty front star, right? It's like, all right, what is this? This is weird? Is this just like it's a weird wedding present, but that's okay.

SPEAKER_01

I hated those masks.

SPEAKER_03

Oh I know. And um they're very similar to ones that I feel like I remember from the Twilight Zone. There was a Twilight Zone that I feel like had almost the exact same mask. No shit.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's cool.

SPEAKER_03

Um also I find it interesting that Daniel's the one that puts Alex in the cover. And it's just like, oh, Daniel's always been trying to protect Alex and throughout as we'll learn kind of throughout the rest of the film. Because you know, Daniel is the one that's constantly trying to rescue Grace while Alex is chained up. And it's just fun to see that through the rest of the film. That's kind of wishy-washy there for a minute, though. I'll we'll get talk about that when we get there. So it's 30 years later, Alex uh is getting married to a woman named Grace. She is nervous but eager to join his family's gaming dominion, which is how they came about their enormous wealth. But Alex weirdly seems more into the idea of running away and getting married without the family, even though that is shun frowned upon. So the couple go for a photo shoot prior to the ceremony along with other members of Alex's family. I don't know if you noticed this, because I did. She was kind of like shivering during the photo shoots, like the actress was. And I was like, is that on purpose? And apparently it's not. It was just extremely cold in Canada that day. Oh shit. Um, but the directors were like, no, this actually works because she's supposed to be super nervous and unsettled by everybody's death series.

SPEAKER_01

She's never met any of these people. They've only been met, they've like known each other for a year.

SPEAKER_03

I a year and I think it's like a year and a half. I think I'm assuming they probably met some of them. I would assume. Yeah. But it seems like Alex tried to keep her away from them because you know they're a cult.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's gotta be like daunting. Yeah. Knowing that you're marrying into like this billionaire family. Right. Fuck, dude. Yeah, that's what I liked about succession.

SPEAKER_03

And Tom's Tom's section. Um, so they're doing their photo shoot for the ceremony, along with other members of Alex's family. You got Daniel, who seems chill and thinks lowly of his family, played by Adam Brody, which is a great actor. Yeah, he is joined by his wife, Charity, who is open about the fact that she only married Daniel for his family's money. Hell yeah. They're Weasley. Yeah, I know. I actually kind of really do like her character for most of it. She's like, I just fucking want to keep this alive.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because she's like, I don't want to go back to not having money. It sucks. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um, their father, Tony, is visibly disapproving of Grace, but not nearly as much as Aunt Fucking Helen. Dude, she's who shoots Grace, just the craziest death stare I've ever seen so much. I'm just like, hey, Helen, you want to like look somewhere else for a second?

SPEAKER_01

But uh one thing I do love about this family is that the money kind of overshadows everything, so they're just shitty to each other all the time. They're like, oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

They also are all like, how many It's like we always have to come back here and do a weird ritual like every year. It's very strange. It's like we gotta sacrifice goats all the time. Um, more approving is Alex and Daniel's mother, Becky, played by Andy McDowell, who's great all the time.

SPEAKER_01

Do you think you would have been the one to be picked to sacrifice the goat? Like to cut it? I do it. No, I mean I I feel like this like this family would look at you and be like, you do it every time until you die. You get to go. This is your job now.

SPEAKER_03

I said, no. Actually, I remember we um it was like when I was a kid, and we were going to um kill a goat and cook it. So, and I remember being at my dad's friend's house, and he was like, All right, we're gonna we're gonna slaughter the goat. And I was like, Can I watch? Oh shit, hell yeah. And then like as he was getting ready to shoot it, I was like, Yeah, I don't want to watch. But I did watch him like cut it open and clean it and stuff. Dump the guns. Um, but I do remember being very sad after the gunshot. And I was like, I shouldn't have been here for this.

SPEAKER_01

We did the I took a class in high school where one of our days was to go on a field trip to watch a cow get slaughtered from beginning to end. And like some of the kids there could not handle it. Yeah, that seems like an insane thing to do.

SPEAKER_03

An entire field trip. That's a terrible film. I mean, I don't know. I guess it's like, hey, you should know where your meat comes from.

SPEAKER_01

There were like special needs kids there that like did not know what they were watching. Like, why are we here? Yeah, they they were freaking the fuck out and we're don't blame them. I know, no, not me neither. So it's crazy.

SPEAKER_03

That is an insane. That's an insane. Is this in Sparta? Yes. God damn. I didn't go to Sparta schools. So, uh back to the movie now that we're talking about murdering things. So, more approving is Alex and Daniel's mother, Becky, who tells Grace that only Alex's opinion matters. Moments later, everyone gathers for the so ceremony, and Grace and Alex are married. I like how quick it all is. It's like bam, bam, bam, bam. Got it over. We don't want to see the wedding.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

We know shitty people, good person.

SPEAKER_01

Let's go. And then you can just say, hey, your vows work great. And then we didn't have to listen to it.

SPEAKER_03

Loved it.

SPEAKER_01

Sounded like y'all love each other.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Point made.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So uh later, Grace and Alex are trying to get intimate, but they are interrupted by Helen who reminds Alex that he needs to join the family for something. It's like, she's like, Someone's here. It's like, knock, Helen. Just say, hey, what up, dude?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. You know what I thought? I thought that they're a whole family was gonna show up to watch a consummate. Yeah, that's why I thought I thought. And weirdly, that was more fucked up than what was actually going on tonight.

SPEAKER_03

Which it makes sense why Helen is so bitter because you know, she did not get to have her husband because of this whole ritual.

SPEAKER_01

She killed her husband, right?

SPEAKER_03

Well, no, the family did. She was trying to stop him. Oh, she was the one being held back and screaming. So I'm sure that she has a like a lot of bitterness towards all of this. And it's like, well, I didn't get to have my fucking husband, so you guys should. I hope she has to die. I'm assuming she hopes everybody every bride dies or every husband dies. Was her husband the last one that got this card? Yeah. Yeah, because that was the last time it ever happened. Because it very rarely ever happens, apparently. So you know, there's just a shot that it happens. I don't know. Um, so uh Alex then explains to Grace that as per tradition with every new addition to the Le Domos family, she has to join the family for a game at midnight. Um and then she's like, What? Like, and he's like, Yeah, bad gaming, boy, uh chess checkers. And she's like, if it will get your family to accept me, I will play the shit out of some checkers, and I'm really good at it. Nobody is. It's like it's immediately I'm like, ah, Grace, Grace is a great character. Yeah, she's wonderful. Yeah, I mean, honestly, for you know, traditions, it's like not it's kind of a fucking good tradition. Yeah, it's not that bad. Be like, hey, um, but before we do that, let me have sex with my wife, and then I'll go down and play some more games with them at night. But like, could you not interrupt us?

SPEAKER_01

At least let her change out of her fucking bride's stress.

SPEAKER_03

But it also wouldn't be like the dopest ass costume for a movie ever by the end of it.

SPEAKER_01

The blood-spattered bride.

SPEAKER_03

It's so good. The loss of innocence, dude. The bloodshed.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um, so Alex and his father talk vaguely about did you tell her and what if she draws a card? And the father thinks Labelle is with them in spirit. Grace confides with Becky. She hasn't um we learned that she was an orphan and has always wanted to have a family. Becky asks her to make sure Alice stays close to the family. Alex seeing this uh is worried and grabs Grace away, just like I'm assuming, being like, don't talk to her. Um But yeah, um, great little thing just makes you because um It also makes you trust them. The actress is you know, just an actress I've watched like since the eighties. Um just like you kind of trust her and she seems kind of nice, and it's like, oh, this is gonna be the one good person, and then it you know, not so much.

SPEAKER_01

Um why are they trusting their whole entire fortune to this magic box? It was a deal that their grandfather made with the devil.

SPEAKER_03

Essentially, because that's how they get that's how they got their essentially where are you, Satan?

SPEAKER_01

Make a deal with me. I want it. No, you don't.

SPEAKER_03

I want because if Satan is real and then you after you die, you get the the bad thing at the end.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, that's whatever. Like it can't be that bad.

SPEAKER_03

Can't be that bad. That's true. It's probably just like you just gotta it's probably just like a continuation of life. So yeah, I mean, after like a trillion years, you're like fucking normal. It's like whatever. So when I was living, I worked in a factory. Um at least I don't have to get up early. Oh so uh that would actually be the worst thing. It's like your torture in hell is every time you're about to get you wake up three minutes before your alarm goes off. It's like every time right before you're about to get into deep sleep, you're woken up by a cat or a dog.

SPEAKER_01

Oh well, that was already happening. Except now it's continuously. What else you got, Satan?

SPEAKER_02

Bring it on, motherfucker. It's like, oh my god. Satan's here. Hey, speaking of the devil, what happens then? Hello.

SPEAKER_03

So, uh, now that uh Jason no longer has a soul because he gave it to the devil. Oh, I was born a ginger. Grace and Alex reconvene with a family who are now joined uh by Alex and Daniel's cokehead sister Emily, her husband Fitch Bradley, and their sons Georgie and Gabe. Um uh Aunt Helen. Oh, yeah. There's a part where when Emily comes in, uh Aunt Helen says, Brown haired niece, you continue to exist. It's the most loving thing she's ever said to her. Low-key, love Helen in this movie. She's the most ridiculous character, and I absolutely love it. Yeah, she's wonderful with a fucking axe.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. With that. Okay, we'll we'll get to it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man, so they go to the game room, aka more hunting room, hunting trophy room, right?

SPEAKER_01

Game is a good thing.

SPEAKER_03

And then this is where this is where Gracie immediately is like, there's a lot of guns and weapons here. There's a guy that this is a weird place to play a game. Yeah, killing a tiger. Yeah. It's like, ugh. I'd immediately be like, I really wish I saw this room before.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is this feels like something you should have shown me in the world.

SPEAKER_03

It's like killing animals that shouldn't be killed. So everyone gathers around the table while one of the maids, Clark Clara, is reading the boys a bedtime story. Tony explains to Grace that this tradition was started by his great-grandfather, Victor, who made a deal with a mysterious benefactor known as Mr. La Belle. Uh, he granted Victor and his and his future generations their wealth, as well as a special box. While Victor was told to give his own part in the bargain, the family passes Grace the box to draw a card from it and pick the game. Charity says she got chess while Fitch got old made.

SPEAKER_01

What the fuck is old maid?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and I love it because like they bring out the box and they just make it everybody has to pass it around and look at it. Half of them are just like, fuck it, whatever. And then Grace looks at it and then Helen's like, hey, bitch, keep it. Um and I love it. So they put a um a blank playing card in, they put it in the box, and they close the box, and then when they open it, it will have what game it is. Yeah, it looks like cards against humanity. But like, yeah, and there's only one bad card. Um that we know of. Yeah. That's apparently that that's what they say in the movie. It's like you pick the one bad card. Uh so Grace draws, she puts the card in, and then draws hide and seek. She's like, we're not really gonna play this, right? Um, and then the room falls silent.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. If I was in that big ass house, I would this would be a great opportunity. I'd be like, why aren't we always playing hide and seek? Yeah. I would love this opportunity to just snoop.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly.

SPEAKER_03

And it seems like a pretty easy house to just hide. Yeah, there's only like n ten of them. Nine or ten of them. Here's I was really good at playing hide and seek. Me and my friend Richard growing up, I'd always hide in very simple but yet unexpected places. Like we had um my friend, like we played hide and seek all the fucking time growing up. And there was this one I remember they had like this little is a fake whale. Is this more of like a decorative whale that maybe like came up to here? As a little child down at the bottom of it. Yeah, and like lassie constantly barking at you. Yeah. But I mean, it was really only like that high. So essentially I just got in it, laid on the ground, and curled up in a ball. But because they had the porch light, you couldn't see in it unless you actively went and looked in it with like a little flashlight or something. So I just kind of hid in the shadows. They couldn't find me. Like a week later. I'm here. And then one time I just hidden tree.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, dude. I used to all I used to also like set up fake hiding spots to make it look like I was hiding. Smart.

SPEAKER_03

Like put your just put like I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I was I like there would be like a pile of stuffed animals. You just put your shoes at the bottom of it. No, I'd I use socks. I put like it had the tips of the socks sticking out right there. Yeah. Nice. That's very smart.

SPEAKER_03

We should play hide and seek against each other, Jason. So, um, man, I really do miss playing hide and seek though. So Tony and J. Yeah. Um, I could still do it. Um, also, when everybody falls falls silent, I love the acting in this. Everybody has like a different face, and they're all like kind of shocked that they actually have to do this. Yeah, and uh, and just like Becky, like the face she has is like, ugh, I actually liked Grace. I really didn't out of everybody I could have killed, this was the last one I wanted to kill.

SPEAKER_01

But they they've also all are all on board. Yeah, they're all immediately have to do it. Yeah, gotta do what the card says.

SPEAKER_03

Don't want to pop. They don't know they're gonna pop, but they don't want to pop. Can't break the rules. So Tony instructs Grace to stay hidden until dawn in order to win, which uh does not sound appealing to her at all. She's like, Are you serious? You waited till we were already married to tell me this shit. I know. Well, it's just like, wow, my wedding night, I have to hide till dawn.

SPEAKER_01

I hit in a dumb waiter. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So as the as she goes to hide, the family locks and load, baby, with guns.

SPEAKER_01

That's what as soon as I saw that, I was like, holy shit. Yeah, it's on. Let's do this. Like, because you have no fucking idea.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and everybody gets guns except for Helen and Flitch, Fitch and um Becky, who get an axe, a crossbow, and bow and arrow, respectively.

SPEAKER_01

I love the the crossbow bit where he like is like, I don't even use this. I know it's and he looks it up.

SPEAKER_03

He goes to the bathroom to look it up. It's such a good bit. I love it. He's just like, I really don't want to do any of this. I just want to just kind of hang out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but he yeah. But he knows he knows what's at stake.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and Grace goes to hide in a dumbwaiter, and Alex chooses to sit this out. How was your wedding night? It was great. I hid in a dumbwaiter all night. So as the family goes dumbwaiter, terrible place to hide.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Terrible place. Famously dangerous place.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but also just like one of my fur if I knew a place had a dumbwaiter, that's the first place I'd go to look.

SPEAKER_01

I dated a girl and they had a dumbwaiter.

SPEAKER_03

Did she have a dumbwaiter or was she a dumbwaiter? Hey yo! I'll be here all night.

SPEAKER_01

No, I was I was walking around the house snooping. Hell yeah. And I was like, I was like, hey, um, you guys have a dumb waiter? And she's like, oh yeah. Like, not a big deal. Like, everybody's got one, right? Uh rich people there. No. Then she opened it. I shit you not. It was full of dildos. The dumb waiter had like 50 fucking sex toys on it. What was the explanation for this? It was her it was her mom's.

SPEAKER_03

It was her mom's stash. Did did did the girlfriend know that this was filled with dildos? Is this like a a common thing the family knew is that?

SPEAKER_02

I don't think she knew.

SPEAKER_01

But she just because she opened it with gusto.

SPEAKER_03

Is it just like, uh, I'm in the kitchen? Oh, where's my you know what? I'm feeling frisky. Get my dildos.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, no, it doesn't work. Don't don't open it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, she she That could have been the end of the conversation. There's no way. Wow, Jason. We were just standing tall. I loved it. It was one of the best things I've ever seen.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, that was that's I wouldn't even know what to say.

SPEAKER_01

But the the most puzzling thing about it is her bedroom was on the bottom floor. Like So why would you even need the dumbbell? I think it's just because it's a weird sex attic. It's just a hidey spot. They got a sex engine or a sex addict. When we went to their room to watch Bad News Bears with Billy uh Billy Bob Thornton. Yep, um, there was porn. It was porn on the television. So I think she there was some sex going on in this house. Wow. What a cool family. They were pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. I mean, hell yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, do do your thing. The riverbed behind their house had raptor tracks in it.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_01

Like dinosaur tracks. What? Footprints like in the mud. Is this in Sparta? No, it's in Texas.

SPEAKER_03

Texas bunch of fucking freaks. Tell you what, man. The more conservative someone is, the more I'm like. You've got a dumb waiter full of dildos. What do you got? I know I know you have a bunch of sex stuff going on someway. And it's either gonna be very sex positive or a very not good sexual situation. So, whoo! All right. So as the family goes off to find Grace, Alex leaves his room to go warn her, which Charity finds out about. Grace leaves the dumbwaiter and wanders before she is found by Alex, who covers her mouth and tells her to be quiet. Clara is walking around as Georgie has gotten out of bed. As she looks for him, a gunshot rings out and Clara's face is blown off right in front of Alex and Grace. Apparently, Emily fired the shot thinking it was Grace, but she realizes her error. Tony, Helen, Daniel, and Becky come in to help move Claire's body. Grace sits in horror as to what she just witnessed.

SPEAKER_01

I fucking love how everyone's just so nonplus about it.

SPEAKER_00

And Emily's like, oh my God.

SPEAKER_03

Then Tony's like, that was my favorite one.

SPEAKER_02

I know they're all the because several of them said that.

SPEAKER_03

My favorite help. Yeah. They're all like, We love Claire. She was the best one. She took care of the kids the best. It's like I love it. They're so nonchalant about it. And like the bit that like Emily throughout the movie movie just cannot get anything right.

SPEAKER_02

So she's the fuck up. Yeah. She's all kind of a little bit more. She has cocaine. And something that she can't even do cocaine right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she's just all over licking it. And then it's like one of the things that happened earlier is when Emily met Grace for the first time, and then like Grace went like kind of her nose. Yeah, to kind of give her the thing. I'm like, damn, and now y'all learn to kill this girl? Bunch of assholes.

SPEAKER_01

So Grace is a girl's girl, and I like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she uh yeah, Grace Best character ever. She's amazing. Yeah, she crushes it. So um Grace sits in horror at what she just witnessed. Alex pulls her into another room to explain the truth to her. Hide and seek for the little Ledimosis means that they think they need to hunt Grace and kill her before dawn, or else they'll all die. Alex admits that he didn't tell her about this because he feared that she would leave him, but he promises to find a way to get her out of safety. Um, and then I love it, of course. She's like, it's like, you didn't tell me? It's like, well, you wanted to get married. It's like, don't blame this on me.

SPEAKER_01

Such a good bit. Burden shifted motherfucker. I love it.

SPEAKER_03

It's just like, wow, really? You're classic guy, you're gonna blame the girl on this one. It's like you're the family that has this. I didn't know anything about it. Sorry, I thought most families when they get married, it's a good thing.

SPEAKER_01

They just, yeah, it's over after the ceremony. Yeah, right?

SPEAKER_03

It's like your family doesn't continue to kill you throughout the night. So Grace trades her heels for tennis shoes and tears off the bottom of her dress to move around more easily. She starts to walk out, but is immediately spotted by Tony, Helen, and Daniel. They try to incapacitate her, but Emily, fresh off another line of cocaine, starts wildly firing at Grace and misses. She runs for it, and the others realize that Grace knows the truth now. She is also found by Daniel, but he could not care less about the hunt, so he gives Grace a head start before alerting everyone.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that was really cool.

SPEAKER_03

I think good guy, Daniel.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And even when he's counting, yeah, two and a half.

SPEAKER_03

Two and a half. It's like he really does not care about this at all. And it turns out he'd like really liked Grace. Thought he was gonna because it's like that's the interesting thing about um watching it this time about the beginning, that Daniel's the one hiding Alex. And it's like shit. Cause they kind of are like, uh, when they talk about Daniel earlier, he's like, Yeah, your drunk brother's gonna try to grope me or something. And then it's like, no, he's just he actually likes Alex. He wants a good life for Alex. Yeah. Um, but yeah, so then the family gathers in the room uh to come up with a new plan when another maid, Tina, comes in trying to tell Tony that she saw Grace. Emily, who was given Fitch's crossbow, accidentally fires an arrow through Tina's head.

SPEAKER_00

Why does this keep happening?

SPEAKER_01

She's just like, give me that crossbow.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Whoops. I'm not gonna lie. There's something that made that 100% makes this movie work. Because obviously all the grace stuff, five stars, perfect. But it's like when the families gather together, they're so inept at this, and they're so they were like, we didn't actually think we'd have to do this, right? And so every time the family gets together, like I love the dynamics and I love all the characters, and I'm like, man, this movie is like I only have one issue with the whole movie, and we'll eventually get there. But it's like it's almost a perfect movie. It's like a perfect little movie. It was really good. Um, so the family, ooh, uh Helen chops Tina's head off when she won't stop groaning while she's trying to talk.

SPEAKER_01

I know it's so fucking funny.

SPEAKER_03

He's trying to give us a fuck it. It's so great. Um Becky then suggests to Tony that they turn on the cameras to locate Grace, but Tony is against it since it's not a part of the tradition, but they're going to anyways. Um, it's very much a tradition thing with them. They're like, we can only use grandfather's uh weapons and all this, and they don't have to. The whole point is you're just supposed to sacrifice this girl. But you know, it's more fun than because they're rich and it's more of a cult situation. They're like, we have to do all this, even though everybody's like, who cares? Um but Grace finds a giant ass gun and a giant ass ammo, and she locks in load. It has a elephant gun. Fucking bad. Yeah, she's when she gets in the mirror and the bandolair and the yeah, she's like, holy shit. I was like, how is everybody not wearing this? Every girl not wearing this as a costume for all ass costume. It's cool because like you can look elegant with your little dress, but also badass. I mean, fucking hell yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I'm gonna be that for Halloween. Yeah, me too. So she hides in the kitchen. You can have a fake wedding with a real priest. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um, so she hides in the kitchen while Alex tries to turn on the cameras and disable the locks on the doors and windows. But the butler, Stevens, fuck this butler. I mean, he rules, but fuck this butler.

SPEAKER_01

Loves classical music.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so he enters the kitchen to make tea. He hears Grace loading her rifle, and she is soon spotted. She tries to shoot Stevens, but he tells her the ammo is just for display. Oh, that's so ammo is so big. I cannot That was the right size for that gun, though. So excited when I saw the bullets the first time. I was like, I can't wait to see someone explode with this and stuff. Um, this doesn't stop her from smashing a teapot over his face with boiling hot water, managing to evade him. Alex secedes in unlocking the doors and windows.

SPEAKER_01

That kicked ass. It was kind of funny though. I like he had no idea how to use his security system.

SPEAKER_03

And this was to the point where I was like, because when the butler comes into the kitchen and she's hiding, I'm like, why are the maids and butlers anywhere in this house? They're only in on it. If you want them to stay alive and not accidentally get shot, right? They gotta help.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. This family is in it. Yeah. Very much. They need the help.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So Tony and Daniel find Alex in the control room and Tony attacks him. Alex fights back by choking him and almost killing him, but it's topped down by Daniel, which only gives Tony a chance to knock Alex out. They handcuff Alex in his bedroom to prevent him from helping Grace. Like Tony's like, Why didn't you help? I was like, I distracted him.

SPEAKER_01

You know what? The one when I my first thought when I saw that was like well, I guess it's whenever he started to try to get out of it. Try to solve through his own. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um I was like, such a nice bed. Why would you do that to the bed? But like they're so rich, it doesn't fucking matter. Right, they probably have like four extra beds somewhere in any room. Yeah, like the best carpenter in the world gonna fix that tomorrow. Like whatever.

SPEAKER_03

Um, so Grace uh goes to the dumbwaiter again, but finds a maid slash dancer who has no idea what is going on because she's like, like I I mean, obviously, why would she know? It's probably like her first. She didn't read the employee handbook. And she's like, Tony just likes the way I dance. Um, but she still yells for them to get Grace. Then the maid tries to use the dumbwaiter to get away, but keeps her head out for some reason and is crushed. Yeah. It's like, what? And then the maid is found by the butler and lets the family know Tony is rattled as hell at, but Becky is headstrong, surprisingly. That was a cool ass death. Yeah, I know. I was like, hey, why did you do that? Why, as soon as you press the button, you should have got in there real quick.

SPEAKER_01

I love the idea that the these like super wealthy people have no safety precautions. None at all. Never ever. Nowhere.

SPEAKER_03

Well, it's like they're not using the dumb waiter. It's obviously using it. It doesn't matter if it's safe.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_03

It's like, yeah, if they die, they die.

SPEAKER_01

I just better have my fucking breakfast burrito on time. Yeah. Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So meanwhile, Grace is outside on the roof, but can overhear Tony and Helen talking. They know Alex has always rejected rejected their tradition, being the good son. But Helen thinks that Alex will come to accept his place in the family like she did when Charles was killed. She tried to fight it at first, but then realized she should have killed him herself, and she believes Alex will eventually follow in his family's footsteps. Helen reveals that Alex saw Mr. LaBelle in the chair when he was five. And then Alex opens his eyes, apparently hearing the whole conversation. So yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Mr. LaBelle is like a tick on his buttle. Yeah, probably. He's five, so let's not think about that. Well no, he's a full grown man. Or now, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but yeah, you know, just a little bit of backstory between behind Alex and just like you really think Alex is gonna be the only good person in this story. Turns out that might not be true. He's the one that's been chosen by the devil. The devil himself to fucking run the family. So Grace makes it outside and runs to the stable. Um while hiding, she sees Georgie's walking in there and thinks he will help her. He's like, Oh thank God, Georgie.

SPEAKER_01

You're like, aren't you get out of here? Aren't you like, what the fuck? Goats? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Like why? Yeah. But uh Georgie draws a gun on her and shoots a hole through her hand. In response, she punches it, punches him in the face and knocks him out cold. Hell yeah. Anytime you can punch a kid, uh here, you know it's beautiful, crazy how that I have the exact same thing in a movie in movies. So there's this movie called uh Under the Silver Lake. It's directed by the guy that did it follows. It's got uh it's got uh Garfield Andrew Garfield in it, and so um I guess it's just it takes place obviously in uh Silver Lake. Um, but his car is outside, and I guess a bunch of kids kind of scratch it up with keys and stuff. Yeah, and he they're doing it to all the cars outside, and Andrew Garfield gets pissed out there and he comes in and just beats the shit out of this kid. And I was like, they're they're not like five or whatever this kid was, they're look more like teenagers.

SPEAKER_01

This kid was like a 10, 11, maybe 12, all right? I mean, he looked around, yeah, like pre-pubescent, but like not a top yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_03

I have horrible, I have no idea what he was probably 11. I always think they're way younger than they are. Um but yeah, it's just like such a good part that maybe I was like, God, yeah, teach those kids a lesson. Yeah, that's she's fucking dexim. Then I'm like, oh man.

SPEAKER_01

She looks at the fucking hole in her hand, she's like, you little shit.

SPEAKER_03

Not gonna lie, definitely not a person that thinks like you should hit your kids, but if they shoot a hole in your hand, you get to punch them in the face. Especially if it's someone else's kid.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. Even if your kid punched you in the face, uh shot you in the hand and be like, isn't my one chance that everybody'd be like, Yeah, it's fine that you punch your kid in the face. I don't think you'd be able to control yourself. I think your first thought would be, I gotta hit this thing. Like, no matter who it is, you get shot, you just want to immediately punch him for your life. Yeah, I think I would. Um I don't have kids. So Grace is then startled by a goat, leading her to fall into the goat pit where the corpses of goats and unlucky family members are disposed. So gross. And this also, to make this movie even better, it has something I hate nails sticking up. Oh we did we discussed this in uh uh what what is the movie with the aliens and you gotta be quiet? Oh my god, are you fucking kidding me? John Krasinski. Uh Quiet Place. Yeah, quiet place.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you know where they're she's in bare feet. Like, I don't know. Home alone had a bad one too. Jesus.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but those uh I mean it was funny.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's funny, but like still a headlock squishy.

SPEAKER_03

It's just like any fucking time. Like when you know, like you can they and the movies always set it up perfectly. It's like they just like show you, just show you a visual of the nail, then you show the person like heading towards it. And then but in this case, it's even worse because she already has like a bullet hole in her hand.

SPEAKER_01

It's like absolutely pull herself up because she can't use her hand anymore.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I don't think it like fully is a complete hole, so I think it's still stabbed into the wound, which is worse, which is already hella infected. But yeah, so Grace climbs up the top of the ladder and starts uh that starts breaking under her feet. She reaches the top, but has a nail go through the hole in her hand. She manages to muster up the wheel to pull herself out and then use part of her dress as a bandage. Bad fucking ass.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it really was badass because it was like her last resort. Just throw that hand up there, grab the nail with your fucking hand.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I don't survival.

SPEAKER_03

Like I love it. She like no one really ever talks about like Grace as like uh one of the best final girls, but I think she's one of the dopest final girls. I think it's because it's a horror comedy, so people don't really think of it that much. She kills her mother-in-law? Yeah. Oh, I can't wait. So she runs back outside and manages to break through the front grate. She uh tries to flack someone down, but he is a prick and drives away from her.

SPEAKER_00

What the fuck is wrong with you? You fucking asshole piece of shit. Little tiny dick licker fucking asshole fucking time.

SPEAKER_03

Hell yeah. That is the most real.

SPEAKER_01

And then she finishes it off with the fucking rich people.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It's but you know, you've stubbed your toe alone in the house and have probably said this when you're alone. Just fucking flip your shit and just say every cuss word possible.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's pretty stoic when I get hurt like that.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. Um, around people, I am too. I'm always like, ah, but when I'm home alone and like I've already kind of a little frustrated because usually something is driving me nuts in this house. And I do it, I'm always like, you motherfuckers.

unknown

God dang it.

SPEAKER_03

It's just the most real line in this entire movie.

SPEAKER_02

It feels so good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Uh so um Steven shows up who was told her location by charity, who was not able to hit her with a crossbow, and she just like, ah, fuck it, walks in and tells him about it. And then he uh tries to capture her. And she like at first we see her, she gets to the um before the car she sees the car, she but she gets to it and like the fence is a little bit broken and she like has to squeeze through it. There's a gash on her leg because of it, and it's great. And then like he pulls up. So Becky orders Daniel and Emile to dispose of the maids in the goat pit since the others think they have been doing more harm than good to the hunt. Yes, and the fuck-ups. Because Daniel's not helping at all. Let's Charlie work. Emily is just coked out of her mind. They go to throw the bodies. Uh, Daniel is fed up with the family and says that they all deserve to die while holding the help's head. But Emily is adamant in sticking to the tradition so her boys won't be hurt. And she's like, even my boys, you want them to die too? It's like uh she are they already shot them. They are kind of little shits. Yeah. Uh Georgie wakes up and says he tried to shoot her, and Emily says, Good boy. Oh, God. So um, yes, Grace is in the woods now, and uh, but then somehow this is a part of the some parts of the movie that I don't like. I don't understand how she didn't get away and why you just didn't run further in the woods and just sit. Right? It's the only part of the movie where I'm like, you have all this woods, you could have You could have just lost yourself in the woods hidden the woods for an hour or two.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Probably also seeking medical attention at the same time.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but yeah, then she just runs out into this clear opening where it's like, well, the road led straight to here. Why would you run into this? Just keep hiding in the woods.

SPEAKER_01

She also doesn't know her way around the property. That's true. She could have just got lost.

SPEAKER_03

I would have still stayed in that woods.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, hide the fuck. Take off that white fucking.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I know. Just I just hide under some leaves. I don't know. Um, so Steven the butler finds him. Grace fights him, and they attempt and attempts to strangle him with a piece of her dress, which it looks like she killed him, but she and she takes his car, but doesn't see that he is still alive. Grab the gun. I know.

SPEAKER_00

Get the gun! It's like, what are you doing? Shoot him.

SPEAKER_03

Should have shot out the tires and stuff, too. Double tap his ass. Just actually like shoot the tires and run back into the woods.

SPEAKER_01

Like, well, I mean, I was pretty relieved when she got in the car. I was like, whoa, maybe she's gonna get away.

SPEAKER_03

Never works in horror movies. You never get in the cars.

SPEAKER_01

It never works. I do love that it was the OnStar guy that shut her shit down. I know.

SPEAKER_03

I was like, man, we still got OnStar in these 2019 movies.

SPEAKER_01

Man, he must have reported that thing stolen so fast. Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_03

It's like that quickly. And then when you hear like it, it's just a little bit of the parts where I'm like, all right, this is a little silly. But then it's like the guy's just like, oh, someone's trying to kill you. Well, I'm actually gonna make you die.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're just gonna we're just gonna stop here right here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, put a pen in that. It's like, how about you let me drive to a safe place and then you shut the car off?

SPEAKER_01

Ridiculous. Well, I also thought there was gonna be one of the family on the line.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I kind of did too. Where I was like, maybe this guy's like in on it, maybe but I don't think so. No, he was just dumb. Grace drives Steven's car away and talks to customer service agent, Justin, to get help. Unfortunately, since the car was already reported stolen, Justin shuts the car down, which leads to Stevens finding Grace and tranquilizing her. How is he everywhere? He's so good.

SPEAKER_01

And what he's not gonna die if the family dies, right? Yeah. So like it's like, what's what's the point? I mean, I I get you want to like keep him alive so they can you can keep your job. Like you probably love. I think he was um the butler to the the LaVille guy. Or at least all the fucking time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, probably. Um, yeah, but it is one of the situations where I'm just like, you know, it's like, all right, almost died twice. I'm done. Yeah, there's a point where you I mean, I don't know. It's called like disloyalty. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's just like that was a good hire.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you have a hell of a resume. Like, you could probably find another rich family. It's like, yeah, dude, they wanted me to kill people and I was down for it.

SPEAKER_01

Sacrifice people to say for you. I'm sure there's plenty of rich people that are down for that.

SPEAKER_03

So um he drives her back towards the mansion while video chatting with the family to let them know he has Grace. I fucking love it. They're all just like hanging her in front of the camera.

SPEAKER_01

It's so funny. They got their drinks and they're like just hanging out.

SPEAKER_03

It's like, yeah, it's back on, baby.

SPEAKER_01

We don't have to go fucking run around the woods.

SPEAKER_03

Stevens starts to play his classical music because that's how he fucking jams out um over the radio and doesn't see Grace waking up, but the family does. They try to warn Stevens, but he doesn't see Grace as she kicks him in the head twice. The family is like, ooh, so good. Um and they uh and causing him to roll the car over into the field. I love the slow motion shot of her and her just screaming. Samara Weaving has a great horror movie scream. Yeah. She really was like made to be in these type of movies. Like she feels like a great final girl. Um Stevens is dead, but Grace survives. Uh, she gets out and is found by Daniel. He says he can't let his family down, so he knocks her out. Turns out Tony was also there and hiding. And he's like, It's like, how'd you know I was here? It's like, well, I'm not blind. I'm drunk, but I'm not blind. And then they take her back to the mansion. Fuck. Oh, she almost got away. So, um, well, I guess we'll have this conversation in a second when Daniel helps her. So, um Yeah, and this is another thing. I'm like, how long do they have between this? Like, can this family teleport at this point? So Becky goes to Alex's room to try and talk to him. She thinks that while he loves Grace, he will ultimately stick to his family's wishes. Alex tells her that he will kill her if anything happens to Grace. She's like, Well, I guess I'm dead either way. Um she asks why he left. He says that it has to do with the fact that he had to slice the neck of a goat at an altar, and that it felt normal. He realizes that if the family believes something, that they all go along with it. Then he met Grace and finally saw someone who is actually a good person. Fuck you, Becky. So let's get to the ritual. Or part one of the ritual. That's my mom's deck. Becky.

SPEAKER_04

Becky.

SPEAKER_03

So the family places Grace on an altar to begin the ritual to sacrifice her, Mr. Labelle. To Mr. Labelle. They pass around a chalice and drink from it. Like goat's blood or something? I don't know. They didn't really explain that. But then they suddenly start puking just before Tony kills Grace. Apparently, Daniel gave everyone something to make them sick, and he frees Grace from the altar. He tries to help her. It's like they'll just shit weird for a week. He tries to help her get out, but they are found by charity. Knowing that he is no longer on their side, she shoots Daniel in the throat. That's his wife. So uh I assume you wanted to say something about Daniel and like his motives. Like a little earlier, you're just like, well, he's kind of wishy-washy.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, yeah. Because I think he turned her in.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but I think he was going to get there to help her. But because he saw Tony was already there, he was like, Well, I gotta say face.

SPEAKER_01

I think he was just trying to stay out of it. Like he didn't he wanted to live and to still be rich. But he so he was just kind of.

SPEAKER_03

Well, because he doesn't he doesn't believe that they're all gonna die. He thinks this is like a stupid thing that they do. I think he was just like, he was gonna go there to help her. Tony was already there. Or he's at least gonna see if she was all right, but he's like a safe face. Safe face, yeah. And then he's like, and then he came up with the idea.

SPEAKER_01

It's like a poison mall.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Apparently, originally he was supposed to before the scene, you know, you kind of see him just sitting there all sad, like as everybody's getting prepared to do this ritual. You have like a filter or whatever, like slapping himself in the face. Don't be a bitch. Don't be a bitch. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Don't be a bitch, you bitch.

SPEAKER_03

You see him just sitting there not drinking. Apparently, in the original uh script, he was supposed to be just drinking heavily during it. But I would be. Uh Brody came up with the idea. It's like, actually, I think he should be sobering up because he's planning on helping her. So I think that like all his cause at first I was like, Well, why would Daniel now decide to do it? And Then it's like, oh, he's probably just, you know, he's trying to help her. He's the only good person in this family, surprisingly.

SPEAKER_01

He's trying to help Alex.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he wants that's his ultimate goal. He likes Grace and he likes Alex and he's like, oh, this is our chance to get away. So he wants to help him, but you know, he's the only good person in this family. Soon we'll learn that at least. Yeah. And I was really bummed he died. Yeah, I was too. So Grace fights charity and takes the gun from her. The bullets are gone, so she pistol whips charity and it's fucking rules.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she double like tries twice.

SPEAKER_03

It's like he's gonna shoot the hell out of her. This is the gun that is in clue. They replicated it off the clue gun. Cool. And there's also the candlestick on the dining room table. And it's funny, like they only had like a few candlesticks, so they have to keep moving on from shot to shot to these places. Um so he uh Was there a wrench? Yeah, I don't think so. Um Grace tries to help Daniel, but he tells her to go. Alex breaks free from his cuffs and finds Daniel's dying. Uh he tries to save his brother, but it's too late. Tony then goes to for Grace and tries to kill her himself, but she hits him over the head with a lantern and drops it and throws it towards the fuck yeah. Um Grace is then found by Becky, who misses her with an arrow, but then tries to strangle Grace. Grace pulls the tablecloth down and grabs Mr. LaBelle's box and she knocks Becky off of her before bludging her to death with a box. And this is when I'm like, yeah, I was so into Becky being a good character, but now it's just take her out.

SPEAKER_01

Hell yeah, man. And like the sun, dude, he's just like watching a half. Yeah, he's like, Hey, hey, stop.

SPEAKER_03

You still want to marry me?

SPEAKER_01

But like, imagine living in a house so big that when part of it catches on fire, you don't know until like an hour later. You don't know.

SPEAKER_03

It's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

And no fire alarms, no fire alarms, no safety precautions.

SPEAKER_03

That's what the hilt is for.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Like mere cats. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's like one comes out on fire. All right, there's a fire. We gotta get out of here. So um then Alex, Alex comes across the scene trying to talk to Grace. He realizes that she will never stay with him, so he turns on her and gives her up to the family. Like, just play along and tell them you'll stay with them so you can get out of there, you know? Also, Alex is a bitch. He really is. Oh. Because he's like, I didn't really have any issues with Alex except for the fact that maybe tell her this is a possibility.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that was fucked up.

SPEAKER_03

Right. But I mean, like, the odds are he's seen this happen to so many people and no one ever picked this card. It's like, you just won't know about it.

SPEAKER_01

They thought it was gonna be like shoot some letters and stuff.

SPEAKER_03

But it's like you also had to go through this as a kid, so you know it's a possibility. I know, for sure. So it's just like hey, we every once in a while we kill a goat. Yeah. And no big deal. No big deal. We kill it, we all drink his blood. It's like really tasty, so don't worry about it. It's yeah. And then we cook the goat later, and it's just like, hey, make sure. Families be crazy, am I right? So everyone continues with a ritual by holding Grace down themselves. Just as Alex is about to plunge the dagger into his wife, Grace breaks Helen's grip by clawing her hand for letting the dagger go into her shoulder. She gets off the table and holds the dagger towards the family while screaming. And it's just like there's this animalisticness to her, and it's just so amazing. It's so great. Oh man. This makes me movie makes me wish I was a girl. Um, she gets off the table and holds the dagger. Oh, I said that they then see that the sun comes up, they open the curtains and they're like, it's too late. And then they're all just kind of like, oh, they're all they're like recoiling in horror for their impending death, but then nothing's happy. It's like so everyone's like, all right. And then like a flinch or whatever, he's like, so what do we do about her? Killing her.

SPEAKER_00

Everybody's like, kill her. I'm insane.

SPEAKER_03

I will do this for you, Label. She loves the devil.

SPEAKER_02

Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, Helen plans to kill Grace anyway. She grabs an axe when suddenly pop. But just uh it's like when you pop a bubble. It's exactly like that. It's amazing. Let's all give a round of applause to this movie.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Ladies and gentlemen, radio silence, baby. Radio fucking silence. How um, but then uh yeah, she explodes into bloody mess. Um, the family realizes that they're screwed. Uh bitch explodes next, followed by a uh uh begging charity who's just like, I don't want to be a part of this. I don't want to be part of this. Uh Emily tries to get away with Georgie and Gabe, and then uh pop, pop, pop. Tony tries yelling about how he followed the rules, but he turns into paste as well. Alex then tries to weasel his way into getting Grace's forgiveness, but she hands him her ring. Wonderful, throws it at him, and as she does, I want a divorce.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Pop by Alex.

SPEAKER_03

Um, then the fire from the curtains spread around the house, and for a brief moment, Grace sees the spirit of Mr. Labelle sitting in a chair as he nods approvingly to her. Yeah. He's like, chaos, baby. Also, this my second least favorite thing about this is that it just didn't look good. It didn't even make sense. Yeah. Well, I think he's just like, You did it. Congratulations. Because it's it's the devil. Like she won the game. This is a game to him. Yeah. That's the whole point. It's like, ah, they made it's like, I'm fine with either outcome. Either this entire family dies or you survive. Either way, it's all entertainment for me.

SPEAKER_01

The whole family's behind him with like scowling with their arms crossed, like pouting.

SPEAKER_03

I'm mad. Yeah. Um like cartoning. Oh. But man, it's just it's just I can't. It's it's the most ex unexpected outcome, right? Yeah. It wouldn't have been as good if they started catch on fire. If they started catching a fire, it wouldn't have been if they started melting, it wouldn't have been as good. Something about the pop is so genius. It's just fucking flesh balloon. It's amazing. I love it. It's it's great. Oh, golly. It's so uh unique after that. Yeah. I just I mean, we'll get to it after this. But um, so then Grace exits the burning mansion now covered in blood and looking sick as hell. She sits on the steps to smoke a cigarette just as the police and paramedics arrive, and also asks So, like, hey, we got a really cool lady already. She looks like she spilled some wine on her. Let's go ask her some questions. So an officer asks Grace what the hell happened, to which she simply replies, in-laws. The end. Fantastic. I I just want to know what these boys are doing next for their next movie. Oh man. It's like they did the sequel to this, which is fine. I can't wait to watch it. But it's like, I just want I want them just every two years a new movie from these guys. Because they're definitely now probably one of my favorite like comedy horror directors. Yeah, it was crazy. Because we're definitely doing Abigail next week. I was thinking about maybe for this uh October doing like one of the big, you know, like monsters. You got Witch, Werewolf, um Swamp Thing, uh, and uh uh Vampires. And they did Abigail, and I was thinking maybe that'd be a fun one this October, but I don't know. Still debating on how to do October because really that's my favorite time to do the podcast because I love horror movies.

The Pop Ending And What It Means

SPEAKER_03

So the point of the movie What do you think the point is of rich people be crazy? That's almost I think very similar. Rich people suck and are not to be trusted. Um and then you can't kill someone who has spent their whole life surviving while you've gave uh while you've had everything handed to you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And I think about when um Daniel's wife, whenever she talked about how she never wanted to go back, like that's almost what you have to find in this family. Yeah. It's like you have to find someone who is so ready they're either ready to die to lose everything, just or just to keep what they have.

SPEAKER_03

Because that's what like made um because grace and charity are two sides of the same coin, right? Or a different coin. Right? One probably both had similar issues, you know, trauma growing up, and then one decided I don't give a shit. I as long as I'm safe, I'm good. Versus the other one is like, I kind of got a good heart, and it's just like I'm gonna survive for me, but I don't want any part of this. Yeah, that's it. And um, I think it handled the themes and everything pretty well. I mean, for uh for a goofy horror movie, you know, like a comedy horror movie, I thought, I was like, damn, this had a pretty decent message and didn't step over it all that.

SPEAKER_01

Like how they're they're the family is so nonchalant about their impending doom.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Like, oh yeah, we might die.

SPEAKER_01

Uh they just think everything's gonna work out automatically because everything works out for them.

SPEAKER_03

I think half of them, and I think other than um, like you know, the older adults, I think most of them think, hmm, this probably isn't really gonna we're not actually gonna die.

SPEAKER_01

We just didn't they say they've been through worse than her.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I know, and I'm like, what do you mean? This has only happened one other time since 1989. So uh next category the good, the bad, the ugly, the fine. It's where we discussed the good of the film, something we liked, the bad, something we didn't like, the ugly, something that didn't age well, the fine, something that did age well. Um, good for me, Samara Weaving, and Radio Silence, I think two stars that came out of this great. Also, like Brody. He's as Daniel. Yeah. He's there's something so charming about that actor. He is very charming. Yeah. And it just like immediately is like, ah, I trust you, man. How much of you not for her? I don't know why. Same with Samara Weaving. There's something just like kind of endearing about her. And I think it uh probably because you see her constantly almost dying. So that usually endears you to a lot of them.

SPEAKER_01

And that's kind of what my good is, is like she she kicks so much ass

Themes Rich People And Survival

SPEAKER_01

and like she's such a survivor. It just makes you root for her the whole time. Yeah. She's such like a good person. She's she's like the the hero to this fucked up situation somehow when she's also the victim. Yeah, it's it was so good. Yeah, I know. And there were so many surprises. That's what I really like.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's just like even like with Georgie shooting at her, it's like, oh fuck.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that kid's got a gun. The kid's a fucking demon, you're also got his mom's gun and decided to help out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um so uh for the bad, I I mean, other than just like just some of the why are they able to find her so easily? Like whenever she gets off the property. Because once you get off the property, I mean it should be over. It should just be like, I can just run in any direction and they have to find me at this point. Yeah, that's bringing out a helicopter or something. I would have just been like, I would have gone, I'd been like, do I go straight? Do I run left or do I run the right in the woods? And it's like either way, it should be easy to get away. Um, that's really the only bad thing I have is just that aspect of it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Took me out a little bit. That that is true. And I I don't really have anything for the bad. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

For the ugly, I uh put generational wealth.

SPEAKER_01

Man. Well, I mean, it's they say rich because I think one of the lines is like rich people are different, and that's true. Yeah. So I think so different.

SPEAKER_03

I don't I think that the next generations the rich people are different. I think if you well I don't know, I guess Bezos kind of he built his own thing and he uh is a weirdo. But I think like, you know, I guess back like in the back in the day, I feel like if you pull yourself up by your bootstraps, you know, the American dream that we can't do anymore because it just is impossible. Um but like they were a little bit more had a better mindset than versus people who are born into the wealth and just have everything handed to them. It's way different than you never had to work for anything. Yeah, and like you don't have the same perspectives of what us middle c lower middle class to poor people to middle class. Yeah. Which is why the whole idea, there's no ethical billionaires. Yeah. It's impossible. Once you forget, like, but like I feel like to become a billionaire, you have to have that weird fuck everybody except the mindset.

SPEAKER_02

Tendencies, yeah, sure. It's weird.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Psychopaths.

SPEAKER_03

It's because it's like I think about it all the time. It's like, well, if I became a billionaire, I'd be way better. And I'd be like, no, I don't think I would. I'd probably well, I wouldn't want to work anymore, which is the difference between me if I became a billionaire versus billionaires now, who just like, I want my hands in everything. It's like, go to the fucking beach and just chill. It's like, why did I just don't get it? I don't know. I Yeah, solve hunger, solve homelessness. Yeah, but there's so many bad things. Like when I I think about like, oh, if I ever won the lottery, it's like, bye. I'm gone. Oh yeah. I'm just going places now. For sure. Whatever.

SPEAKER_01

There'll be a there'd be a time for years when you would not hear or see my face.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'd just be like, I'd buy you a lot some recording equipment, and then I'd be like, all right, what day do you want to record? We still do the podcast, we just want to do it in person. You'll be in Italy and like Yeah. Just be like, oh, I gotta stay up late to do the podcast with Jesse. Um, all right, so uh Rich People Talk. So the fine, um, something that age well, Radio Silence. They've honestly made every movie's been good in my eyes that they've done. Um, even the screams that I still enjoy, just don't think they're as good as this movie or Abigail. Um, plus the whole hunting man is the greatest game thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's cool.

SPEAKER_03

It kind of I do kind of like it as uh idea. We don't get it. It's just I don't know. There's something nothing is more terrifying than a bunch of rich people hunting again. Yeah, I know. It's like fuck, that is the dystopian future.

SPEAKER_01

That was like the what was in the the purge. That's what really bothered me. Like everything else was kind of like off to the side, but like when it was just gave rich people a test.

SPEAKER_03

It's so funny. We're just like, and we just constantly through our art are constantly saying rich people do not care about poor people, but yet in real life, we don't seem to grasp that idea. And I I don't understand it. It's like, why would you ever trust because it's in the movies extremely rich people? That's why I don't think anybody that makes over five hundred thousand dollars a year should ever be president. It's like once you if you're if you make more money in that yearly, you should not be allowed to be a president because you are just not in the same perspective as 90% or no, yeah, not 90%, 99% of the population. That's why it's 1%. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. What I thought was really good or was fine and aged well, uh fucking secret passageways throughout houses. Oh I want one so I just want a secret passage. What is that a bookshelf? Nope, it's a door.

SPEAKER_03

I want a secret bathroom. Just one bathroom that only me and my wife know about. Oh nobody else knows. Just that would be amazing. Perfect secret bathroom. Or secret bathroom for her and a secret bathroom for me. Yeah, that's the ideal situation. Never tell each other.

SPEAKER_02

You don't even know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's just it's all it's always been a thing that I've always wanted.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that would be amazing. Living in a maze of a house like that. I always feel like bathrooms are places to get away.

SPEAKER_03

And that's why they call them restrooms.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I thought it was so funny whenever uh in the very beginning of the movie, when after they got through the ceremony, she's he was like, Oh, we'll be down in the music room. Yes, I'm gonna do that. She's like, Oh, that's a totally normal room to have in a house.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_03

That's

Good Bad Ugly Fine Plus Double Features

SPEAKER_03

such a good bit. All right, Jason. Let's finish this episode. We're gonna hit up our next category, double featured. It's where we recommend a movie to go alongside this movie. And I actually thought we did this movie that I am recommending. No. I've I've or at least I had the idea to do it. Maybe I were re-watched it a couple years ago and was like, eh, maybe it doesn't hold up as well. But it's a movie called You're Next. Um, directed by uh the guy, uh Adam Wingert. He did uh the two most recent Godzilla movies and uh The Guest, which is his best movie. Um, but this is like when uh the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, the Gang of Mysterious Killer soon learns that one of the victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back. It's a very similar to this movie. Yeah, that sounds cool. Girl comes in, attack happens, turns out she's a fucking bastard. Yeah, that's great. But it's got a lot of actor, like Ty West is in it. He did uh he was one of the guys that did a VHS short, same with Adam Wingard. Also has um fuck, what's his name? I always forget his name. Joe Swanberg, he also did one of the VHS, like all these people came up together, same alongside Radio Silence and Horror. Um so even if you watched it, you'd notice a lot of them that's cool from it. Uh sounds really good. VHS kind of uplifted them to get all this this movie. So yeah, watch your next. It's uh there's bad acting in it, and that's cool for me.

SPEAKER_01

Uh my double feature, I guess if you haven't seen the series The Haunting of Hill House.

SPEAKER_03

Hell yeah. I love that series. You want people walking around a giant ass house? I know that's what I get.

SPEAKER_01

That's like when I thought about I guess that's what really I loved more most about the movie was the the like an awesome house. Yeah. And like scary houses are awesome, are cool.

SPEAKER_03

You're talking about the Netflix show, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Haunting Up Hill.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Uh and it also crazy ghosts. And it's just it's one of those shows you can keep constantly going back to rewatch because you know, like the environment moves and things are tweaked, and there's things in the background. There's like there'll randomly be a ghost, and you're like, was that a ghost? Then you gotta rewind it. Yeah, and then like and also the greatest jump scare in the history of ever. The hanging woman? Well, you know, when like the two sisters are yelling in a car at each other, and then out of the backseat, the bit neck lady comes out and describes.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, dude.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, the episode though of the Bit Neck Lady Like, I mean, it's just that show makes me cry. That show fucking it crushes my soul. It's so nuts.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, like you hear people talking about like uh sleep paralysis and they don't they see a tall man, yeah, you know, like he's a recurring character in people's imagination.

SPEAKER_03

And then it's like you never see his face in the show, it just like walks backwards for you. So good. Just such a sad show, but also makes you want to pump fist your pump or pump your fists. Fist your pump? Yes. And that is the conclusion of Ready or Nine, as I am slowly losing my mind from all the talking. Um, join us next week because we are not done with religion, cuz Daddy got a new movie in the mail, and it's called Dogmar Baby. A movie I've

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's Kevin Smith, baby. Uh, probably my favorite movie of his, and I've only seen it once because it was impossible to find because of Harvey Weinstein. Well, you have to let me borrow it so we can talk about it. Yes. Um, yeah, I think it comes with two, or I'll just make sure to watch it and I'll let you borrow before we uh have to watch it and to do the podcast. So yeah, join us next week for Dogma.
