Jurassic Park still plays like a perfect blockbuster because Spielberg makes us feel wonder and fear with craft, not noise. We nerd out over sound design, practical effects, chaos theory, and why the franchise loses the plot when it tries to go bigger instead of smarter.

Welcome And A True Masterpiece
SPEAKER_01Hello and welcome to the We Recommend Podcast, a movie podcast where every week we recommend a movie for you to watch and then come back here and listen to us discuss. I'm Jesse. I'm Jason. God creates dinosaur, God destroys dinosaur, God creates man, man destroys God, man creates dinosaur. Cause this week we recommend Jurassic Park!
SPEAKER_04Did you see it in theaters? No, I was too young. I saw it. It was awesome. I was so scared of T-Rex. I was two when this came out.
SPEAKER_01That's not an excuse. I would have been terrified in the theaters of this movie. Dude, just gonna straight up say this. Masterpiece. Yeah. I mean, I know it's like, oh, of course Jurassic Park's a masterpiece. But no joke. Perfect film. I mean, there's flaws, but perfect film. It's just yeah. If someone was to put Jurassic Park on, I would never complain in my life.
SPEAKER_04No, never. It's like the perfect blockbuster thing.
SPEAKER_01Like I mean, Steven Spielberg is the king of blockbusters. I mean, he created them with Jaws. Jaws was the first blockbuster, famously.
SPEAKER_04Um do you so they said that they created the noise of T-Rex with a there was like a bunch of different animals, but also a fish. Yeah, and like a penguin. Do you think that he used Jaws? What was this? My mouth I gave it. What kind of fucking sound is a fish making? Is it a fish?
SPEAKER_01I know I wrote down the note. Did he actually say fish? That's what I heard. Uh so my half-ass. So according to the behind the scenes book, The Making of Jurassic Park and Adventure 65 Million Years in the Making, great title. Uh, the infamous roar of a Tyrannosaur Tyrannosaurus Rex was a composite mix of dog, penguin, tiger snarls, alligators gurgle, and a baby elephant squeal. The very deep alligator vocals acted as a low frequency element of final roar. However, you and have you heard the alligators? Like their grumbles. Uh-huh. Oh man. Like I used to watch videos of like alligators, like people like going to the Everglades at night and just all you hear is a and it's like insane.
SPEAKER_04Terrifying.
SPEAKER_01However, as Gally Gary Ridestorm stresses the key part of the sound is a high frequency element, the baby elephant. Ridestorm describes how during the recording session, the baby elephant only did the iconic, cute, high-pitched scream that forms the basis of every T-Rex roar in the film. We kept trying to get it to do again in the hands. We never heard it do that before.
SPEAKER_04That's a weird sound. It's just like feeding it scotch and like trying to get it to grow some hair on its chest. So come on, Donna.
SPEAKER_01Be a man. I guess that's the sound that they wanted, though. They wanted that like high-pitchedness to it, I guess. As Ridestorm stresses, the introduction of the T-Rex is a scene expressly planned
The T-Rex Roar And Sound Design
SPEAKER_01around sound design. I think that maybe other directors would have had Shock Moment where you see the T-Rex show out Allo Blue, Spielberg was great. The T-Rex scene by getting several minutes' attention before you knew it was coming and knew it was you heard it before you saw it. It was nice when movies think about sound that way. That is true. In terms of sound, this is one of the best movies ever made. From score to like sound of the dinosaurs, it's fantastic. It's so iconic at every turn. Yeah, and that's something. Whenever I was going through school and, you know, doing film production, when I did my first few, uh, my first one where I was gonna have actual talking and stuff, I'd done a couple videos where it's just you know music playing over it. But when I did like my first real short and I got it, and I was like, the sound sucks. And until doing this podcast, I didn't really under because they didn't teach us how to do sound. Right. And it was really stupid. And I'm like, I'm here for film, teach me how to make sound better. Yeah, it really was, and no classes over it. It's so stupid. I'm like, I just wasted so much money going here. I got my wife, so it's okay. But your way. It's like, and now that I've done the podcast, I'm like, I would have really loved to know more about sound in school. I could have made way better like movies. Production, yeah. Which kind of makes me want to do it now.
SPEAKER_04So um you can always take out more loans and go back to school. Get further, dig your hole deeper.
SPEAKER_01But I'm like 7,000 away from being done with that shit in dollars away. You're closer to me. Yeah, I was lucky I went to Malo first, so it really helped, you know, not have as much debt. Um so uh obviously I want to do this a little bit because dress park rules, but also because Sam Neil died, and which is really a bummer. Um and he's kind of the heartbeat of the movie. We have we have a T-Rex. It's he's so good in this movie, it's so wild. Like the way he goes from hating kids to loving the kids at the end is so great, even though those kids are psychopaths because they immediately look at him like a father figure, like within seconds of being there. Please. It's like when the girl, when Lex falls, and then she gets up and holds his hand, and I'm like, what are you doing, kid? You don't know. You've just met this guy. Why are you acting like you've known him forever? It's so weird. It's like, go hold your grandfather's hand. He wrote a book that his his her brother read. Yeah, that's what doesn't make sense. That's like one of the like maybe like the only thing I have with this movie. I'm like, I get the other kid being into him, but I'm like, why is she so she just needs a prominent male thing? Need a father. I'm like, but they have parents.
SPEAKER_04Not really. I send them off to fucking dinosaur land.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but that's because they spared no expense. Such a good I love it. And then it finally gets to the end, yeah. All this ice cream, I spared no expense. It's been in Jerry's. But yeah, Sam Neil, if you haven't seen some of his other movies, like you should go back. I'm telling you, Into the Mouth of Madness, the John Carpenter movie, is so good, and we're doing it later this year. Hell yeah, no way. I've never seen it. It's just like it's great, it's so good. It's dismetal as fuck. And it's um uh the kid that plays Anakin Skywalker in uh off the chart. Uh not the not the little one, but the from Attack of the Clones and uh Revenge of the Sith. Um I'm blanking on his name. I'm apologizing for that.
SPEAKER_04Sad Darth Vader?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, uh he it's his first film, and you just kind of see him running back. Nice. So that's pretty cool. So when did you first see it? And what do you think about it now compared to when you first saw this movie?
SPEAKER_04Uh oh God, I was uh yeah, I was really I was little and I saw it in theaters and it was amazing and terrifying at the same time. Yeah. Loved it. Absolutely loved it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was uh I definitely I saw it on TV, I'm sure, or we rented it, but I was probably still in the 90s, and man, it just was good. It kicks ass. And it still kicks ass all the time. I think it's better now than even when I was a kid. Not a lot of movies are like that.
SPEAKER_04No, no, I'll never forget seeing it for the first time. It was just one of those, you know. Yeah, especially that ending shapes your life.
SPEAKER_01When the T Rex, I mean, just for every little boy, when the T-Rex comes and saves when he comes and saves them, and then like the banner falls in front of him, Jurassic Parks. It might be, I mean, it might be why puberty kicked in. I don't know what this feeling is, but I want to fuck that dinosaur. T-Rex put some hairs on my chicks, toots. Give me a large glass of milk, please. Some cookies on the side.
SPEAKER_04Dinosaur milk, please.
SPEAKER_01It's like, honey, please put out the cigar.
SPEAKER_04No smoking in here, you eight-year-old.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, but I like I had some raptor toy toys. I had the uh I don't think I had the T-Rex toy. I think that was too expensive, but I definitely had some Velociraptors, which I mean, come on. As a kid, T-Rex was my favorite. As an adult, the raptors go fucking hard. I appreciate their smarts.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, cleveligal. Especially in the second one when they like picking people off one by one.
SPEAKER_01It's so oh yeah, in the field. Such a such a mediocre movie, but there's it's any like a Steven Spielberg mediocre movie is better than most great movies, it's which is wild. I mean, they really just kind of they messed it up with like the gymnastics. There's but there's a lot of good stuff in it. It just there was this. I actually think the premise of the third one, did you see Jurassic Park 3? Yeah. Um, I really like that. The pterodactyl scene that was in that kicked ass is fantastic. The only problem I have with every movie after, um, well, not so much in the second one, but all the problems I have is like they keep trying to create bigger and better dinosaurs, and I'm like, Dinosaurs are cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, just the regular ones are terrifying. That's all I need. Especially the giant pterodactyl-looking motherfucker with the giant beak. Yeah. That's the most that's the scariest fucking thing I've ever seen. Oh, I know, man. And it could just pick you off.
SPEAKER_01It's just like, if I saw a pterodactyl like just flying
Why Movies Undervalue Sound
SPEAKER_01over, I'd be like, so we never go outside again? No, you never. We are fully inside for the rest of our lives. Which I don't know if they're as big as they are in uh um Jurassic Park 3. I think they're actually considered a little bit smaller in Well, but there's the the giant ones.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, not everything lived in Jurassic time period.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's like they kind of just mesh them all together. Well, the title of this is completely wrong because the Jurassic period, I don't think, had dinosaurs. It was the crustaceous period. I I'm basing most of this off of pop culture. Yeah, I think the Friends, Friends actually talks about it. It's like actually the Jurassic Park's not. Actually, actually, I'm Ross Geller. I'm one of the worst parts of Friends. Just kidding. He's fine. I like him. Um, do you miss movies being this big, but also kind of small? Like it's just people on an island with some dinosaurs, no special dinosaurs or tech, just nature versus humans. Because I'm like, you think about like all the the rest of them, like from world on. Of course, world that has that special dinosaur and like all the special tech games.
SPEAKER_04All the genetically modified dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then, you know, it's like everybody actually went to this crazy park, but um, and then the next ones, it's like, oh, now we're selling dinosaurs to people and now they're everywhere. And it's like it's a natural progression that you'd want to see, but I think it just being kind of like a few people on an island and there's some dinosaurs is just the best route to go. Otherwise, it gets too messy, which is what happened.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. No, I think you're right. Um, especially adding Chris Pratt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, I mean it's fine. I actually I I liked him in the first one, uh and then it was just kind of like I don't know, we lost sight of what I I enjoy Jurassic World. Um, I saw an IMAX. It was really it was really fun. I've watched it a couple times and I enjoyed it. It's just it's just once you watch it, it's just like it doesn't have the same rewatchability as Jurassic Park.
SPEAKER_04It doesn't. And I I feel like w whenever you do something uh unique like this, and I guess that's Spielberg's specialty, uh it really hits hard and they keep trying to strike while the iron's hot, but like it kind of didn't work for the rest of the like this one works so well. I don't know, just trying to recreate that feeling is hard to do.
SPEAKER_01That's something that Spielberg was always really good at was like um shock and awe kind of. Well, you know, they have like the Spielberg look. I don't know if you've heard of that, and it's in like all of his movies, he always has it where something amazing is happening. Think about when they first see a dinosaur for the first time, and they all just kind of take the glasses off and like yeah, and it's like the Spielberg look, and that's something he has in like ET close encounters. I was like immediately forgot every Spielberg movie for a second. This movie. I mean, it's just there's so he just did it better than anybody else, and it kind of sucks that he lost it. You know, you know, he tried to do other things like Munich and Minority Reports is good. I mean, they're both good. Minority Report was pretty fun. It's just like not this I guess they're not as memorable as you know, Jurassic Park, Jaws and Clause Encounters and Schimler's list.
SPEAKER_04My seven-year-old requested to watch Jaws. That's a cool year. Oh, such a good like is so crazy that she's into horror.
SPEAKER_01No, it's very normal, honestly, dude. Like I think when we go to look at toys embrace it, embrace it.
SPEAKER_04I know, it's awesome. When we go look at we went to look at toys and uh at these like privately owned like toy places, she just all she wanted to do was look at the villains. I'm like, yes, Queen. Yeah, just do this.
SPEAKER_01Embrace it, watch her though. Make sure it doesn't turn into something. Because I was the same way. I liked you know watching horror movies as a kid. Wasn't supposed to, but I did. I was terrified. I was terrified of the leprechaun and Jucky, but oof. You get you get Michael Myers stabbing somebody, I'm watching. I'm there. Like my favorite thing was just AMC during Halloween. They just constantly do you know, marathons of horror movies and all the classics, and I watched them all the time. Fuck yeah. Um, so do you got a favorite dinosaur?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think the the spitty one. Oh, it's so cool.
SPEAKER_01You know that one uh does not exist. Uh really there's no there's no like uh evidence of any of them with the little thing. I actually had a toy of that one. It was my favorite toy for a while. And like there's no dinosaur that kind of spits venom or anything, apparently. I mean, maybe there is, but maybe there isn't. Shut up, nerd. Maybe we just haven't
Sam Neill Love And Character Beats
SPEAKER_01found it. But yeah, I love that guy. My favorite dinosaur, well, one of them, I will say it's like as a kid I loved it. And even now, whenever I saw it in like Jurassic Park, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, it's always been the headbuddy one. Oh yeah. I had a toy of it too, and I love just smashing things with it. I would play with my little wrestlers with the dinosaur. I would watch that match. Yeah, it was great.
SPEAKER_04WCW versus dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_01And that's why I I I was kind of higher on Fallen Kingdom than like most people, because once it gets down to where they're selling the dinosaurs and they're escaping, I was like, everything well, other than you know, all the long-necked dinosaurs dying, that was really sad and good. But um, once they started selling the dinosaurs and they escaped, that part fucking was metal. Man, um, but just having the headbuttty one just like headbutt everything is like beautiful. I know 10 out of 10. I did this as a kid, I'm glad you're doing it now.
SPEAKER_04I think as a kid, my favorite was the stegosaurus. One of the spiky tail. Yes, yeah, yeah, those are one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_01And those are big in the second one. There's like a whole scene with it. Yeah, it's so good. Um, is uh John Hammond the worst possible business owner ever?
SPEAKER_04No, he's just got too much money, don't know what to do with it. Yeah, but he's like, why don't I just try to create life?
SPEAKER_01Invest in better staff, invest in more staff. You're gonna bring people to the island, you're gonna have like four people there in total. Pay them enough so they don't want to steal. About that. It's just like when it came, which I know it's kind of a little bit of the point of the movie, I get it, but I'm just like, man, I just don't see any business owner taking people to approve their island and having the barest fucking minimum of staff around. Yeah. I'm like, you're trying to impress these people. Right. It needs to be better than this. This is wild. You needed to have full-scale operation. Where'd all those scientists go? They just like they got a house somewhere, they just piece Take a boat back, I guess.
SPEAKER_04They just yeah, they're uh they just kind of pieced out. Yeah, this is the but they got to see what they do, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Which is kind of this because this was the first time I was trying to like look at the movie in more uh and like uh trying to analyze it more, and then I was like, so it got me thinking about like, oh, what are like some weird things that I would have an issue with if I was trying to pinpoint like nitpick it? And I was like, do they have housing on the island? I mean, are people really taking a boat like over and over to get come back each day? I'm like, that would be insane. But I mean maybe it's someone leave because it's like 120 miles from Costa Rica, so like where are they staying? Right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. They probably do like three or four months out of the year and then switch out with another group.
SPEAKER_01I know I'd be like, I want I'm I'll stay here, but all the houses have to be tree houses. Oh, that'd be so cool. Really tall tree houses. So no dinosaurs can just like Brontos. I'm just trying to eat some fucking celery and then a dinosaur pops its head in, oh, it's mine. I gotta sneeze. Oh my quick feed him or he'll sneeze all over us. That would suck. I was just thinking, I was like, man, like if Elon Musk did this, this would he would have like a billion people there. Dude. And then he'd also like.
SPEAKER_04He's probably got a baby farm, like just like Epstein did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04A bunch of prison imprinted women giving babies. Well, you know, he uh tried to go to the island, but he wasn't even cool enough for showing.
SPEAKER_01He was nobody likes him so much. Epstein's like, I don't want you here.
SPEAKER_04It's like a whole duck island of Dr. Moreau, but with Elon Musk, human dinosaur hybrids that he's because he's just a an a delinquent.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Man, that's a movie that needs to be redone. Island of Dr. Monroe. I mean, because I don't know. Have you seen Yeah, I saw it. The one with Val Kilmer and stuff. Yeah. It's like, man, they really need to redo it. This is such a I really love I really liked it as a kid. Had that little guy those creepy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, with the really horrible tail thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And it was just like, I really want them to redo it. So if a park opened like this, would you go? Uh yeah. If you could afford it. Yeah, 100%. 1000% as well.
SPEAKER_04If you have to sign a waiver, you might die. I'd probably still go. I'd lead the kids. I'd be like, I'd wear a GoPro.
SPEAKER_01Here's the thing. I'd be like, I want to go. Um, I'd obviously it'd have to be extremely safe. Right. No. That's it's part of the thrill. But I don't I think it'd be impossible for it to be safe. But I mean, like in Jurassic World, it seemed like they had a great, you know,
What The Sequels Missed
SPEAKER_01it was all working out. It was great until, you know, human beings showed up. I like the whole ball car thing, the hamster wheel like ball kind of I love that. It's a it's a cool scene, uh made the movie like five times stupider whenever it's like.
SPEAKER_04I'm I'm bringing bring on the fucking guy with the with the helmet head.
SPEAKER_01That's what I don't like about the Jurassic World stuff. It's like it's there's too much advanced technology. It's like let's just have normal ass fucking technology. Yeah, but then they would die immediately. Yeah, but like no, Jake said you just build cages of shit. It doesn't have like have to have like this super techie stuff. Like, that's what sucks about blogbusters these days. Like, why is everything so techy all the time? It's like not everybody can just hack and shit, which is oh boy, what are the issues I have with this movie? It's like, okay, I'm glad we just nonchalantly threw in the little girl's a hacker.
SPEAKER_04No, it's I think it was pretty cool, even though ironic that's the next movie we're also doing as a hacker. Kids are so much smarter than us. That's I think that's the point he's trying to get across.
SPEAKER_01But it it is also also better that she doesn't really hack, she just kind of goes to the computer, and it's pretty like anybody could have just turned on all the power back. Yeah. Because it's like, oh, you just see buildings and you click on the building.
SPEAKER_04So the password was sex god. Okay. That was easy.
SPEAKER_01That was easy.
SPEAKER_04So let's talk about some packages. I actually thought about that.
SPEAKER_01I like that movie as a kid. I did too. It's probably really terrified to rewatch it. Oh my god. God. Um, because I used to watch anything with Angelina Jolie. Yeah. So uh the filming took place on Hawaiian Island. Uh, there was a disruption to production through though when three weeks in the island was hit by a hurricane called N I-N-I-K-I. And Nikki. Yep.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01It decimated the island, winds over 120 miles per hour, and took out the power to the island, hitting all Jurassic Park sets. The producer was the producer was Kathleen Kennedy. Uh fun facts about Kathleen Kennedy. She uh she looked over the new Star Wars movies, like the the three that came out. Everybody said she was a shitty producer and she never produced anything good. Uh she produced all of Spielberg's movies. So just let you know, she knows what she was doing, but she did mess up the Star Wars movies.
SPEAKER_04But producers don't really like make the movie, they just kind of pay for it, right?
SPEAKER_01They pay for it, they set up a lot of stuff. Like, I mean, a lot of the getting like the island, that's usually stuff that like producers do. They essentially get everything that you see in the movie there. Yeah. And kind of they can't they there's like logistics. Yeah, but like you couldn't make a movie like this unless you had a producer like Kathleen Kidney. Okay. Yeah. Um and she had to hitch a lift to Honolulu on a salvation army plane just to reach a payphone. From there, she co-coordinated the return of the crew back to LA and arranged a twenty thousand dollars of relief to be transported into the island. Production then resumed at Universal, where uh when they returned to LA. When the storm hit, Spielberg grabbed Dean Cundy, the director of photography, and took him to film the hurricane. Some of those shots made it into the movie. So the shots where you see huge waves crashing against uh the island, that's the hurricane. Nice. Um the casting crew were moved to the ballroom of the hotel they were in, but Richard Attenborough didn't go. He just stayed in bed. When Spielberg asked him how he could do that, Attenborough said, My dear boy, I survived the blitz.
SPEAKER_02Was that David's father?
SPEAKER_01Yes, Richard and David Attenborough were brothers. Richard, who passed away in 2014, was celebrated actor and Oscar-winning director when While David is a world-renowned naturalist and broadcaster, they also had a third brother, late motor executive and financial advisor, John Attenborough. Wow. Talk about a fucking rich ass family, man. Crazy. Success. I don't know if they're Nepo babies or not, but uh if not, they really they really made it.
SPEAKER_04All of them. Especially David. His films are so we we tried to watch one a couple days ago. Yeah. One of his newer ones, and it's so sad. It's about the ocean and how dirty like it's like ocean's great, but now it's full trash. Yeah. And it's just really depressing.
SPEAKER_01I can't wait till we all die. It's gonna be great.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I love it.
SPEAKER_01We're all gonna explode.
SPEAKER_04We should make a dinosaur that eats trash and set it free.
SPEAKER_01That's true. I think they're called goats.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we need some kind of water goat.
SPEAKER_00See how take goats to a dump
Favorite Dinosaurs And Myth Busting
SPEAKER_00and just let them eat.
SPEAKER_04So many dead goats. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I want a goat. So they're so cute. I love videos of goats. They're so hilarious. The fanny ones? Nah. Um, so interest in paleontology uh waned during the atomic age and space race, but according to Dr. Nate Smith of the Natural Natural History Museum's Dinosaur Institute, Jurassic Park coming out generated a bunch of interest amongst young people that wanted to become paleontologists and get into the field. As a result, numerous new dinosaur species have been discovered since then at roughly the rate of 50 new discoveries per year or about one per week. Nice. God. It's like if I die, right, and there is some sort of afterlife. All I hope it is, is that I can literally go back in time and just be around. But not like be there and just watch. That's it. I just want to go see every single dinosaur that I ever existed. That's it. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's just watch movies forever.
SPEAKER_04That's the ideal afterlife for me.
SPEAKER_01I just get to do whatever I want.
SPEAKER_04Just like chill out and watch 65 or like four billion years of evolution. That'd be crazy.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04You just like take a leak in the in the water. Trace all evolution back to Jesse somehow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's what I would love to do. I'd be like, all right, where was my very first ancestor? Go all the way back there. Just an amoeba. That's it. That's it. And I'll just watch the progression until it's me. She's like, hurry up. And then you know, like seeing like what different universes versions of me, like if I made this decision over this decision, that's the perfect.
SPEAKER_04I feel like there would be a lot of fast forwarding. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it'd be it'd be a classic click situation throwing Adam Sandler. You know, that classic situation. I saw that movie in theaters. I was supposed to go on a date, got stood up, and I didn't have cell, we didn't have cell phones at the time, and I cried while watching the movie because it was very emotional. Oh. Immediately went home, called her, and she's like, Yeah, sorry, my dad wouldn't take me.
SPEAKER_02And I'm like, Great to know now.
SPEAKER_01I remember my dad being like, Don't fucking call her. She stood you up. Don't immediately call her. Make her think you're upset. I think you did the right thing. Nah, I probably should have called her. No, you should have. Yeah, it's cool. No, we live too, we were like too far away. None of our parents wanted to drive us to meet each other. And it's just like one of those situations.
SPEAKER_04Oh, it's one of those girl, my girlfriend lives in Canada.
SPEAKER_01Well, lived in Moore County. It's not even that that far from where I lived then. But I guess it was like a 45-minute drive. So that's crazy. It's how we even got together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Love her.
SPEAKER_01Just kidding. Everything worked out perfectly. So the T-Rex occasionally malfunctioned due to the rain. Producer Kathleen Kennedy recalls the T-Rex went into heebie jeeby sometimes. Scared the crap out of us. We'd like be eating lunch, and all of a sudden a T-Rex would come alive. At first we didn't know what was happening, and then we realized it was the rain. You'd hear people start screaming. Here's the thing this is why everything went to CGI because animatronics were very finicky. It was very hard to get them to work. It's like even Spielberg at this point. I mean, Jaws was 75. It's now 93. He's still having trouble with animatronics, right? Because in Jaws is famous that, like, hey, turns out when you get an animatronic wet, it weighs a billion pounds. And you know, it's just it's pretty much the reason we went to CGI is because it's just way easier to do. Which I guess we should discuss CGI real quick. Um, it's amazing in this movie. And when I went to watch the next movie, which is gonna be Spider-Man Homecoming, I was like, holy shit, they should have got Jurassic Park people to do this CGI. Even though it's not bad, but it's like you can just you can see the scenes and everything now, which you yeah, just like the Jurassic Park ride at Universal.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. The Derpy dinosaurs with the jaws coming unhinged.
SPEAKER_01And I I love like because you have the ones that come out of the water, right? And I love like sometimes they don't. So you'll just see like their head and their mouths are open, they're like it's like they're drowning, and it's like, uh just to get back in the boat and you can't save them. I love that ride when the T-Rex comes out, and then you just dive. Oh beautiful.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_01So um, yeah, director Steven Spielberg wanted the Velociraptors to be about 10 feet tall, which was taller than they uh were known to be. According to an artist involved in pre-production, Spielberg requested this change because he was unhappy with the size of what was considered the largest uh dramaid at the time, didn't know Jesus, and wanted it to be bigger. Whoa, dude. Dinosaur
Hammond, Money, And Bad Staffing
SPEAKER_01words, hard words to do. I tell you what. And as someone who is real dumb and stupid, it's really hard for me to do this. Another reason was to make the raptor more menacing. During filming, paleontologists actually uncovered 10-foot-tall specimens of raptors called Utah Raptors. Utah Raptors. They must have found them in Utah.
SPEAKER_04They're Mormons.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Spielberg also wanted the dinosaurs to be bird-like, for example, snapping to attention like a chicken. He wanted the raptors to turn their heads so they could look behind them to make them have scarier appearances. Spielberg likened the raptor, tapping its claw to morse code to any raptor listening. Hell yeah. I mean, Spielberg, he he he forever made raptors what they are. I mean, no matter how much science, how much knowledge we come from rap like we learn about raptors, it'd always be like, nah, they Spielberg, baby. They Spielberg raptors.
SPEAKER_04I don't know, man. Like, knowing now that they had feathers, like that kind of makes them a little more terrifying.
SPEAKER_01I know. And you know, it's like that's what I like about this movie. They're actually more bird-like than they were reptile, or closer to reptiles, and it's like, well, why didn't he put feathers? And why do they use frogs and not birds? I don't know. Because uh, well, isn't it because like uh the way the DNA is?
SPEAKER_04So this is one of my biggest problems with with the continuous films. There's never another mention of Mr. DNA. He kind of just forgot about him.
SPEAKER_01He he fucks. Yeah, and here's the thing it's it's honestly one of the best parts of this movie in terms of like, hey, you want exposition? Well, we'll give it to you in this very short scene that you're gonna love. And it's like the rest of the movies, it's always just three, two, three people talking to each other, and it's like, no, but they did it such a good creative way.
SPEAKER_04I was so happy. Like, we bought we we found these toy on clearance at uh uh Walmart, and it was a Jurassic Park like dinosaur egg that you had to put all these, you had to like measure out this stuff like DNA comes in like a little uh shaving cream bottle that you pull open, just like the movie. You put the DNA in the egg and you mix it together. We messed it up, we fucked it up hard. But in the pamphlet that came with it, there's Mr. DNA right there. Hell yeah. He was like, This is how you do it.
SPEAKER_01Dinosaurs. Yeah, Mr. DNA fucks. Saw him on the red carpet, he looks real cool. He wears sunglasses. Um so the guest encounter with the sick triceratops ends with any clear triceratops, I mean S-tier dinosaurs as well. Ends without any clear explanation as to why the animal is sick. Michael Crichton's original novel and the screenplay, however, included an explanation. The stegosaurus slash triceratops lack suitable teeth for grinding food, and so like birds would swallow rocks and use them as uh gizzard stones. In the digestive tracts, these rocks would grind the food to aid in digestion. After six weeks, the rocks would become too smooth to be useful, and the animal would regurgitate them when finding and eating new rocks to use. The animal would also swallow West Indian lilac berries. The fact that the berries and the stones are regurgitated explains why Ellie never finds the traces in the animal's excrement. Um if you were just curious at all why it's so sick. Um Steven Spielberg was in the early stages of pre-production for the movie ER, based on the Michael Crichton novel. Uh when he heard about the Jurassic Park book, he said, fuck this ER movie, uh, and started making that movie. Afterwards, he returned to ER and helped develop it into the hit TV series. And that's why we have George Clooney as well. So thank you, Steven Spielberg. Oh, yeah. There's a reason the media tells you to idolize him. Yeah, I'm still upset about that. Not really, I don't care. Um, so you know how it was weird that Samuel L. Jackson, like, we didn't see him die, we just see his arm. Well, so he was supposed to fly to Hawaii to film Arnold's death scene, but a hurricane dish was set, and the scene had to be scrapped. His regret, he regrets this because he was physically chased by them and killed, and he really wanted to do it. Oh, he just really wanted to be killed by a dinosaur. Yeah, me too. Uh, and you know, at least he got eaten by a shark later.
SPEAKER_04Um it's like don't look up the with the planet they end up on. They get eaten by the horrible
Storms, Animatronics, And Groundbreaking CGI
SPEAKER_04thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's great. I really wanted that.
SPEAKER_01That's a great part. Really a good like pump your fist part. It's like, yeah, fuck these rich guys. So, um, last one, the original ending had a rib from the T-Rex skeleton. Skewer one of the raptors, and the jaw drops and kills the other, but it seemed too phony, and the crew approached Steven Spielberg to come up with a better ending. They all pitched ideas, but Spielberg came up with the finale. Uh, he needed the T-Rex to be the star at the end. And turns out there's never been a better decision made in the history of the movie. So perfect ending. It was awesome. All right, Jason, I'm ready to get into this shit.
SPEAKER_04Let's dive into this pile of poo.
SPEAKER_01There is one other thing, and this is just because I didn't write it down or anything, but it just clicked into my mind. Um, so when they were doing testing for Jurassic Park, uh, and they uh Steven Spielberg is friends with like a bunch of people, and they bring George Lucas in, right? And so they're gonna sit down and they're gonna show him the movie, and then once the first CGI Dinosaurs came up, you know, like the amazing look, apparently George Lucas got out of his seats and immediately went out and made a phone call. And that phone call led to Anna Menace. Spielberg is the reason that Star Wars was ruined forever.
SPEAKER_04So thank you, Steven. Uh Misa, not so unhappy about that. I love Misa, love us, Jurassic Kapaka.
SPEAKER_01That was terrible. Hated it as soon as I did it. Oh man. So good. So we're gonna hop into the plot of the movie. But hey, Jason, like I always say, we want some fan mail. And we would love to hear what our audience thinks of the point of the movie. So if you have a point of the movie, you can leave us some fan mail. The links in the description at the very top. Click on it, you can text us straight from your phone. If the link is not available, you can go to the bottom, and we have our email. We recommend mailbag at gmail.com. Or if you're on YouTube, just comment. Thanks. Thanks. So Jason, Jurassic Park 1993. The movie begins on a dark night. We see rustling trees and a group of men with guns eyeing it. It's a
Fan Mail Prompt Then Plot Dive
SPEAKER_01large container with a mean old dyno in it. They're on Isla Nubar, right? Isle Nubar? Sure. Isla Isla? Okay. I'll never I won't say it again for the rest of the movie. Isla. Yeah, Isla Nubar. 120 miles from Costa Rica. Uh the creatures in the container is pissed, and while uh releasing a Velociraptor from the container, the container is pushed back and the gatekeeper is attacked. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Too bad there was no they shock him a bunch.
SPEAKER_01Too bad there was no key master. They try to save him. Shoot us! But the man dies. I love Muldoon in this movie. He's got the shooter, classic line, and then the clever girl.
SPEAKER_00Clever girl.
SPEAKER_01And the only lines better than any of the lines in this movie is when Jurassic Park 3, Sam Neil, uh falls asleep on the plane and then turns around and looks and sees a raptor, and that raptor says, Alan. And it's the best part of the best line in all these movies. I anytime that I hear someone's named Alan, I always turn them out laughing. Alan. It's just classic. So cut to everybody's favorite person, a lawyer. John Hammond, the creator, is being sued for 20 million and a lawyer has to do an inspection of the park. The lawyer says if they have two experts sign off on the park, the investors will sign off. This happens in a mine where they see a mosquito and amber amber being found, and we'll learn a little bit about that from Mr. DNA.
SPEAKER_00Yay.
SPEAKER_01So in the Badlands, we meet Dr. Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler excavating some dinosaur bones. Grant hates computers because they don't work when he gets near them. Must have a metal plate in his head or something. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04But animal magnetism doesn't work for computers. Just fucks them off.
SPEAKER_01This computer is too turned on. It can't handle Sam Name. Grant explains to people around him that dinosaurs have more in common with birds and lizards. A snooty kid doesn't think a raptor is scary, so Grant traumatizes him. Yay, I love that scene. Grant hates kids and Ellie likes them. So this is gonna be a problem for their relationship.
SPEAKER_04Deserved it though.
SPEAKER_01Just like if I if I was like the parent of that kid, I'd be like, hey, what are you doing? He's a kid. He can be a little snooty sometimes.
SPEAKER_04Don't try to cut his belly up.
SPEAKER_01It's like we didn't have to traumatize all our kids in the nice. Why did everybody feel like we had to do that?
SPEAKER_04Because they need it sometimes.
SPEAKER_01It made us tougher. It did. And also take a bunch of pills when we got older. So suddenly a helicopter arrives, messing up their dig. In the trailer, we finally meet John Hammond, who's been funding them for with $50,000 a year, which I feel like is not a lot. It's not enough. Yeah, but I mean I guess it's I mean, I guess they probably had other investors. So it probably was their largest. So Hammond explains he has an island and a park that he spared no expense for. Uh he explains that he needs their sign off on their new park and he invites them to the island and they agree because you will fund their research for three years, and they're like, Yes, we'll do it. Thankfully.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Um it just feels like maybe they should ask more questions.
SPEAKER_01You know, they're like, by the way, we have a real dinosaur. Do you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, I guess? And I love that they all come in and they're all like pissed at him. They're like, oh by God, that's John Hammond. Oh shit.
SPEAKER_04What do you think about Mr. Moneybag? The Monopoly guy is here. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I will say, uh, I love his character though, Hammond's character. It's like he's such a like a little cutie, like so excited. Yeah. And you also grandpa love when it all blows up in his face at the same time. Uh and it's just like, because you really just kind of want to see something not work out for a rich person, at least these days.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, especially these days. But then like you could kind of tell that he this is something he was really passionate about.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when he does his like flea circus.
SPEAKER_04But he was too laissez-faire, I guess, about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he just it's uh yeah, he wants to play God.
SPEAKER_04Oh, it's just fine.
SPEAKER_01And uh, you know, just big dreams, just big dummy at the same time. Um, so in Costa Rica we meet uh Dennis who is stuffing his face. Dennis is being paid to smuggle dinosaur embryos off the island in a fake can of shaving cream, and Dennis is great.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I know his laugh is so funny.
SPEAKER_01Newman Newman uh played by the perfectly, perfectly cast though. Uh crap, I'm blinking on his name though. Oh shit, shit, shit, shit. Should have had it pulled up.
SPEAKER_02Um what is his name? Goddamn.
SPEAKER_01Wayne Knight, yeah. Perfect perfect, perfect actor. One of the best characters in Seinfeld. So on the way to the island in a helicopter, we meet an E we meet Ian Malcolm and his crazy laugh. So on YouTube they have like uh they have cuts of that laugh to where it just plays on repeat. Um, I should have showed you before this, uh, but there's like a 10-hour version of it. And it's just like his insane laugh he has at that moment. It is weird. It's like, why did you laugh like that? Um, he is a chaotician. He hits on Ellie, and we see the gorgeous island for the first time. The helicopter has turbulence, and Grant has to tie spelt buckles because he has two female ends, important later, and then they land.
SPEAKER_04I I think maybe he just doesn't know how seat belts work.
SPEAKER_01Well, he pulled the one on each side.
SPEAKER_04But there had to be another one there.
SPEAKER_01Well, but there's there's three belts or seat belts, and he's on the end, and she had one that connects, so it's like, again, John Hammond, you gotta inspect your ship, brother.
SPEAKER_04I feel like helicopters they have like the three-point harnesses, you know, or even the four-point ones. I guess not this, right? Over your shoulder. These are 90s helicopters.
SPEAKER_01This is rich man helicopters, they don't have legit stuff. He's spared no expense except he has problems everywhere. Um, but yeah, I just love uh I just love the time it ends and how it foreshadows what's to come. It's not gonna hold. Yeah. Oh yeah, he does.
SPEAKER_04I guess if the helicopter crashes, you're gonna have all died.
SPEAKER_01No, they're all gonna die. That's why you should never get in a helicopter. It's why every time a helicopter crashes, there's never survivors. No, they are very fragile pieces of equipment. Though most planes, you know, if they're in midair and crash, they usually die too. But there's always some survivors. So they travel in some dope ass jeeps, and we finally get to see some dope ass damn dinosaurs. A uh Brachosaurus, welcome to Jurassic Spark. Fan.
SPEAKER_04This is such an amazing scene. She's sitting there looking at a leaf, she's like, There's no way this is Sam Neil like turns her head.
SPEAKER_01And that's like the classic Bilbert look. That's just so good. But I mean, there's there's nothing more that gives you that gives me chills more than like this scene. Because they're just driving, they have no idea what's happening, and then all of a sudden you're like, there they are, and the music swells, and it's just like, ah because you know, um, because you know, I mean, John Williams, he's the best, baby. Hell yeah. He's the best. He made this damn song so good. Ugh. I remember when Jurassic World came out, um, and they released like some of the soundtrack, but they didn't have the original theme. And like, so there was thought that they weren't gonna have the theme in it, and it's like, well, you have to have the Jurassic Park thing. That's what makes it Jurassic. Hell yeah. Um, and then when I watched it, I was like, wait, they fucking have it. It was mainly my friend that told me that it wasn't gonna be in there, and I was like really upset, but then it was in there. So um, I don't know. It's just like one of the best scenes in cinema history. There's like three scenes in this movie that's like the best scene in cinema history. It's wild. Turns out Jurassic Park pretty good. So um after uh blowing their load with all these Jurassic Parks in a Jeep. We have a T-Rex. Yeah, they go to the visitor centers.
SPEAKER_04Um uh and then we uh got a bunch of overpriced memorabilia.
SPEAKER_01We get on the best ride in the whole park, uh, Mr. DNA ride. Yeah, they get strapped in. It's it's kind of like something, it's almost like the Jimmy Fallon ride.
SPEAKER_04Uh except, you know, that would be really funny if he came out as Mr. DNA.
SPEAKER_01Jimmy Fallon comes out with his little hashtag panda.
First Dino Reveal And Mr. DNA
SPEAKER_01I'm surprised they didn't do that for Jurassic World or something. Um, but yeah, so we miss meet Mr. DNA and we learn a little bit about what's going on here. So they learned that Injin were able to recreate dinosaurs using DNA taken from mosquitoes who had uh feasted on dinosaur blood and had been preserved in Namba. The DNA taken from the mosquitoes were spliced with DNA from frogs to fill in the gaps of the genetic code. Injin scientists only cloned female dinosaurs, thus eliminating the threat of uncontrolled breeding of these animals. Afterwards, the crew enter the laboratory after being so excited to see how it works, headed by Dr. Henry Wu, and witness the birth of an infant Plociraptor. And it's so fucking cool.
SPEAKER_04It is very cute.
SPEAKER_01Um Malcolm tells them that even though they are all female, that uh life uh uh finds a way. Um then Grant gets spooked when he learns that the baby is a raptor. Um I love that whenever he learns, like, wait, what type of dinosaur is it? And they're like, a raptor, and he's holding it in his hands. I'm like, what if he just dropped it and killed it immediately? It's like not on my watch. Yeah. Um I I love when they're on their ride and they're like, Can we get off? We want to see more. And they're like, no, this is a ride. And they're like, one, two of a three like break it open and go in. Oh yeah. The lawyer's like, they're not supposed to do that. Oh, no. Um, but yeah, just the the egg hatching is so good, dude. Looks and then John Hammond saying, like, oh, they they'll imprint on me. And I'm like, no, they're not dogs. They're not dogs.
SPEAKER_04I have given birth to every animal.
SPEAKER_01They all imprint on me. They're all my babies. I feed them my milk.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god. Pulls his shirt up.
SPEAKER_01I spare no expense. It doesn't even have a breast pump. And then afterwards, I'll show you how I make the dinosaurs. Ooh. He fucks it up too. There's this a dinosaur like with some lingerie on, just laying on it, looking back at him. And then Alan Grant walks in, the dinosaur, Alan. Get over it. Come in, big boy. So they go to containment where a poor cow is being fed to a raptor. The man from the beginning, Muldoon, he explains that they had multiple raptors until um until one that they are feeding killed them to become the dominant female. He says it is smart and can remember. Hell yeah. Clever girl.
SPEAKER_04So horrifying. Yeah. Just seeing the the cow like the cow lowers down and then they pull it back up. It's all ripped as shit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's just like, poor cow. Well, I mean, I guess it's better life than we can kill. I guess you can't kill it first because they want to hunt. They want to hunt. It's not really hunting, though. They're in a tiny containment. So you know, it's you know, there's just nothing natural and good about what's going on here. So at dinner, Ian Malcolm brings up that this is very dangerous to mess with nature. So, Dr. Ian Malcolm, if I may, um, I'll tell you a problem with the scientific power that you're using here. It didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't learn the knowledge for yourself, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could. Before you even knew what you had, you patented it, packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox. And now you're selling it. You want to sell it? Well, John Hammond, I don't think you're giving us our due credit. Our scientists have done things which nobody has ever done before. Malcolm. Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could. They didn't stop to think wait. Fuck! Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop and think if they should.
SPEAKER_00Damn.
SPEAKER_01Man, I feel like I was really fucking nailing it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I love their slideshow room. Yeah. It's really great. Me too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was a great little like conference room.
SPEAKER_04It had like Jurassic Tennessee in one of the slides.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_04I've watched it so many times I'd look in the background to see what they were was showing. I know.
SPEAKER_01I never went in one. I never also never went into like the little aquarium uh dinner one either. I think they're both.
SPEAKER_04What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_01I was just talking about watching the movie.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01You're talking about the un at Universal? No, I thought you were talking about the little like restaurant, Jurassic restaurant thing in Nashville.
SPEAKER_04Oh no. I didn't even I've never been there. Yeah. It's kind of like the aqu oh they don't have it? Uh not the Jurassic one, I don't think. They still got the aquarium one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which I need I wanted to go in with.
SPEAKER_04Now it smells in there. What it smells like an aquarium.
SPEAKER_01Oh I love the smell of aquariums.
SPEAKER_04It's horrible. There's just animals screaming all the time. It's it's like there's jungle. Maybe I'm thinking of something else. And the aquarium one.
SPEAKER_01You might be thinking of the Jurassic Web.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. I don't even know anymore.
SPEAKER_01Um but yeah, b back to like the line uh man, it's just you know, it's just it's so relevant. Yes. Even today. It's like the whole line. It's just like a whole idea of why of this movie, why what is doing? It's probably why our whole planet's eventually gonna die.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, hell yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's like you could take this all the way back to like the fucking atomic bomb, just doing it because they can, not thinking whether they should. Hell yeah. Um, but it did help in the war that was almost over anyway.
SPEAKER_03Yeah so it was unnecessary. You know what?
SPEAKER_01This is Jurassic Park, baby. Um, so both Grant and Sattler agree with Malcolm. Um so the only one on my side is the blood-sucking liar. And he's like, Thank you. Thank you. I'm the good guy, and nothing bad's gonna happen to me. Um, and then Hammond's like, you know what? Fuck you guys, just wait till you see what I got to show you, baby. Um, so they're gonna go on the tour in the classic Jeeps and are joined by Lex and Tim, Hammond's grandchildren. Tim loves Grant and follows him around constantly, following him to much to his dismay.
SPEAKER_04What was he what are they thinking about these Jeeps, right? Are they gonna be locked in the entire ride? You can't just lock people on a car.
SPEAKER_01Is the problem, and it's where uh but like I just think about it. There, it's it is true that this is probably how they'd want to do it. They wouldn't want to pay people to constantly drive those Jeeps because you know, rich businessman is gonna try to cut corners wherever he can. So it's like the most accurate probably thing in the movie. Then why did they have bathrooms if they didn't want people to get out of the cars? Well, I'm assuming they're they're gonna let people like stop the tour and get out and like watch the T Rex, even though uh they'd be constantly stopping for bathroom breaks. Yeah, exactly. Because you'll have to be you'll just be standing, sitting in a car and not seeing anything because it's already hard enough to not see to see things in zoos. It's like every time you want to see a cat or something, like the big cats are always like hidden in the back. So there's been like three times where I got good looks. There's one where like the tiger was just like straight up right in front of the plexi glass, the glass, like just rolling around on its back and stuff. You saw a big old. You put a bunch of cat nap out there. It it seemed like maybe because how how it was acting is really cute.
Chaos Theory And The Dinner Debate
SPEAKER_01And you saw a big old. It's just a toddler on a chain. Yeah. My my favorite zoo experience was actually at the Atlanta zoo. Um, we went there and uh the lions, the first time we we walked through the zoo, we looked at the lions pretty early. They weren't really doing anything, they're kind of like sleeping to where you could barely see them. Then we came back. And you know what time it was? Feeding time? Feeding time. Have you ever heard of lion roar like in person? Uh-uh. Terrifying. Dude, like you could feel it in your bones. Like just the deepness of their roar. There's something so primal about it that it immediately made me like wish I had a spear to protect myself. It like fucking went to like stone age time whenever I heard that. It was it was one of the best experiences of my life. No joke to hear a line roar like that. That's awesome. It's because they're like throwing meat down, so like the big line was like and I was like, Yes, I love you. It's uh one of the best vacations we did. Because we also went to the aquarium there and the blue aquarium is amazing.
SPEAKER_04Did they have the whale shark there when you went?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that was gross.
SPEAKER_01And the place they used to do.
SPEAKER_04The giant viewing room is so good. I know, just seeing that thing swim up. Through the tunnel. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Fucking A. And then they had the uh, what's the white whales? The beluga whales. Fantastic. Uh yeah. Uh got to see a bunch of dolphins poop a lot. Yeah. Yeah, it was great. Saw one's penis. It was pretty cool. It was hot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was a that was a great, great two experiences that happened one day right after the water.
SPEAKER_04You're passing around a blue fist getting hot as well.
SPEAKER_01What's up, brother? It's just got a bandana on with marijuana leaves on it.
SPEAKER_04Remember the war.
SPEAKER_01So good. Um, well, with the grandchildren starting up, it is really fun though, because they're trying to hold his hand. The one kid won't leave him alone. He gets in the the jeep and the kid follows him. He gets out, the kid keeps following him. He makes the one kid get in the jeep and shuts the door on him. It's so good. It's like, don't make these kids ride with a lawyer.
SPEAKER_04I know, no supervision.
SPEAKER_01I was ill be like, yeah, I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll be around the kids.
SPEAKER_04Gramps would have like put uh uh like a somebody to go with them, like a chapter. Yeah, I don't know, like a cousin or bodyguard.
SPEAKER_01Adult cousin or something. So in the control room, we learn about a tropical storm that is approaching. We meet uh motherfucking Ray baby. Telling us smokers telling us to hold on to her butts while the tour begins. Ugh, such a good line. I know. And he says it twice, which even makes it better.
SPEAKER_04He's so he's he seems terrified all the time. That's why he's smoking comedy.
SPEAKER_01Here's the problem. He told us to hold on to his butts. What he needed to hold on to was his arm. So Hammond is watching from a computer. The tour starts, they travel to a few enclosures, but you can't see any of the dinosaurs. Ray says they have uh the problems of the theme park, and uh Ray says that they have the problems of a theme park and a zoo. So you know, they're not ready yet. Um, Dennis says that he runs it all by himself and should get more money. All right, let's be real here. If he is the one literally running and controlling everything that happens in this tour, he should be being paid a lot more money.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he shouldn't need any like I wish they put a number on it.
SPEAKER_01Like if he's getting paid $100,000, like motherfucker, you're gonna be charging rich people like $10,000 to come to this place. Yeah, pay this guy half a million or something. Like, if not more. I mean, if he's literally the one that put all this together, like all the electrical and everything to make it to where it runs and works fine, that is your most important employee. Uh-uh. And also, really gotta have better um healthy snacks. No, just like, you know, a better interview process, maybe. Yeah, like vetting process. Does a guy look like uh Newman from Seinfeld? Then you probably shouldn't pick him. I will say uh Wayne Knight is maybe one of the best, like bad guys. He's so good. Like television and film history. He's just such a little shithead and you can't trust him. Never. Though he was kind of a good guy in uh um what? Space Jam.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He got the play. One of his his third best roles. So the tour approaches the T-Rex enclosure, but once again, nothing. It's like trying to see a big cat at a zoo, essentially, is what I put. Um, Dr. Ian Malcolm, God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaur, God creates man, man destroys God, man creates dinosaur. Uh Ellie Sattler, dinosaurs eat man, woman, inherits earth. Yeah. Such a good line. I'm here for it. Um, so they try to entice the dinosaur out by putting a goat out into the enclosure, but no look. T-Rex doesn't want to be fed, it wants to hunt. Um, so Malcolm explains chaos to Sattler and the butterfly theory. Apparently, she has never heard of this. You know, as someone who went to school has a, I'm assuming has a doctor disgree and never heard of the butterfly effect. At no point. I mean, I heard about it when I was a teenager. When you watched the butterfly effect? No, even before that. Honestly, probably from this movie. But you just figured, like, as someone in like her field, she would have heard of a butterfly effect, right? I mean, she never got high and talked to her friends. So uh while happening, Grant sees something uh happening and jumps out of the car, followed by Sattler. Malcolm is left in the car talking to himself. Um, and I love that Hammond's like, we really need to put locks on those cars. I'm like, what the fuck are you talking about?
SPEAKER_04Sharpen the lock thing so that when they touch it, their finger gets cut.
SPEAKER_01Maybe this is why he's not paying Dennis Moore. It's like, how did you not think of locks on a car? Like, what should have security or you know, chaperones? I don't know. And that that's what I'm saying, where I have like little problems to these movies because it's just like, why wouldn't anybody think of this stuff? Like this is like immediate, like, oh, they're in a it's like you don't go on a roller coaster and not have a locking mechanism to keep them down. If there's dinosaurs, you don't want people getting out of the Jeep and jumping into the enclosure.
SPEAKER_04Putting their hands through the gate to try to pet.
SPEAKER_01Come on, man. Like, what are we doing here? Um let's see. So they walk up to on a sick triceratops, Sattler immediately thinks that it's sick because of what cool plants she wants to look at as poopy. So uh in the control room, they have to cut their oh also this fantastic scene. I mean, is there anything better than like good animatronics in a movie that make it look like there's a goddamn real fucking dinosaur right there? I mean, it's so good. And then like Alan laying on it is hugging it while it's breathing, and he's just smiling so big because Sam Neil is just a fucking natural treasure and I'm so sad. Oh, oh god, it's just I don't know, I want to be a dinosaur.
SPEAKER_04Dinosaur's probably having trouble breathing there, Sam.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, maybe good. She probably doesn't even know Sam's touching them. That's right, like they have like super thick skin. I would assume reptiles do.
SPEAKER_03So anyways.
SPEAKER_01Um, so yeah, in the control room, they have to cut their tour short because of the storm. Satler digs through some poopy. Uh she finds nothing wrong.
SPEAKER_04She decides to wash your hands.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, please wash your hands before you eat. Also, Haman's super pissed that the storm's coming. He's like, damn it. It's not gonna work. Why don't he just control nature? Check the weather before the fucking tour.
SPEAKER_04It's unpredictable, I guess.
SPEAKER_01So uh she finds nothing wrong. She decides to stay with a dinosaur while the others have to uh leave back to the Jeeps. Dennis is up to some nefarious stuff, and now he has to act quick because the boat is supposed to leave uh to leave and is leaving soon. Hammond is upset at how Laclux series tour was, but at least nobody has been eaten. And you'd think that they would yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04You'd think that they would bring in another group of employees to like fill in the gaps. Like I feel like that's what should have happened.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's uh maybe like a trade-off.
SPEAKER_01It's weird that uh a thousand people aren't there right now working. All important personnel, please get off the island. It's like up until like we see that guy taking care of the sick triceratops, it's like, oh, so there are people here. Like, how many people are here?
SPEAKER_04We're just gonna go with the skeleton crew for the most important meeting of our life. Yeah, that's uh for the whole company.
SPEAKER_01Insane. It's like, yes, if this meeting doesn't go right, this was all for nothing.
Nedry Sabotage And T-Rex Escape
SPEAKER_01So uh yeah, bare bones, please, people. I'm John Hammond, I'm not paying anybody. So um yeah, Dennis sets up his sabotage while the tour is on its way back. Um he's still he's like all nervous. He tells everybody, uh yes, um, uh yeah, so uh I just uh have to uh run this do some nerd stuff real quick. Yeah, we're gonna do some nerd things. Everything's gonna go offline for a second, but that's totally normal. And uh uh um I don't know. Uh I've never acted like this in my life, so y'all should not be suspicious at all.
SPEAKER_04I think they were just even though he's the most important guy there, maybe uh he's so ready to leave, and they're like, fine, just get out of here. You annoying.
SPEAKER_01I don't have grandchildren out in the uh tour, so we won't need you anymore. Don't worry about it. Just get out of our face, guys. So annoying. I know. I mean, I don't I don't blame him. He seems like a little stinker. I mean, he is about to be real stinky with some dinosaur goo on his face. So Dennis successfully steals the embryos while all the security systems shut down, including the Tor Jeeps. I will say, I love a good thing popping up and having things in it, and you put in something secretive, like the noises that it makes and just like how the light and just how cool it looks. Love that shit.
SPEAKER_04That all that stuff is really cool, and I really want to get one of those shaving cream thingies.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_04You can you can get them. Yeah, you can put weed.
SPEAKER_01I don't think they actually have shaving cream in it.
SPEAKER_04No, probably not.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, how else are you supposed to carry your weed around? So uh we learn that even the fences turn off and dress parts, gates won't open. While he's trying to escape, he knocks over a sign that tells him which direction to go to the docks. Ray tries to stop Dennis's program, but can't. Uh-uh. You didn't say the magic word. Uh-uh. Um, so this makes me think that like this is everybody's first week on the island. Yeah, it kind of seems like it. Especially when he hits that sign and he has no idea where to go. I'm like, how long have you been here? You should know where the docks is by memory at this point. Like as a kid, you can easily get lost like that. But as an adult, you usually can retain.
SPEAKER_04Or this sort of like a bus that takes all the employees there. Everybody shouldn't have to figure it out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like it's kind of weird. Also, it's like this, I don't know. It's leaving. It does it. And I understand we have to set this up just so it can get eaten satisfyingly. Please get on the boat before everyone gets killed. Yeah, thank you. So the tour stops in front of the T-Rex enclosure with the goat. Malcolm and and Grant are in a Jeep. Lawyer and two kids are in the other. While waiting, they suddenly hear thumps. We see the iconic glass of water. And that's filmmaking, baby.
SPEAKER_04That is one of the things I'll never forget.
SPEAKER_01And it's like anytime I, you know, I mean, the amount of times as a kid where I'd like to hit a table, so it's like, oh it's like, oh, shall I hear that? It's so good. I mean, it's just some people are just like good at making movies. And it turns out spillbook one of them. Keep going to that baby voice for some reason. So uh it's probably because it reminds me of being a kid, so while watching it. Um so Tim using night vision goggles notices the goat is gone until lamb chop lands on the Jeep and we finally see the T-Rex in all its glory. It's because they were like um earlier in it, it's like, oh yeah. It's like they set the goat down. It's like, yeah, who doesn't love lamb chops? And then it lands on it, like, oh, it's lamb chops. And I just ripped something off my computer. That's cool. That sucks. Um, so where's the goat? Slam. Um Yeah, so we see the T-Rex and I'm like, Glory. The lawyer look uh the lawyer books it to the portal potties. He said, nah, I'm just gonna ship I'm gonna ship myself anyways, might as well be near a toilet. Uh the T-Rex breaks through the enclosure gates and is set free. Grant says stay still because their eyesight is based on movement. And uh luckily, they found a flashlight. The kids find some flashlights, and uh have the great idea to be like, hey, there's a T-Rex. It's like, we know it's pretty big and we heard the thumps. You don't have to try to get our attention. Um so the T-Rex goes after the kids' jeep, uh roaring and nudging it until flips over. Save the kids from getting crushed. Grant whips out a flare to distract it and throws the flare away so it'd run after it and it works. But hunky Malcolm tries to play hero as well, lets the T-Rex chase him, eventually knocking him out and eating the lawyer.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Why did he have his pants down? Uh no, he didn't. He was wearing shorts. Oh, he was wearing shorts.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. It's like I always remember his pants being down too, but I was like, oh, it's just his shorts.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I was like, why would he sit there on the toilet with his boxers on? That would be nice. If you're gonna poop your pants, just do it in the house.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, so um, but so I guess in the book or the original script, Malcolm was just supposed to get out and run. And he was just kind of it's gonna be more cowardice, I guess. But Jeff Goldblum was like, fuck that shit. I mean hero too. And I'm like, well, technically you ruined everything. You actually ruined everything. So, you know, on par with this character, but you know, he uh you know it shows that he's more than just a Playboy type of character, you know, he's like he's he also wants to help save these kids, which makes him a good guy. So, um yeah, and then uh so Grant pulls Lex out of the car, she sees the dinosaur, immediately screams as loud as possible. It's like, bitch, shut up! Do you not realize there's a dinosaur here? Um uh yeah, and it gets the T-Rex's attention again. It continues nudging the car, leaving Lex and Grant with no other option except for climbing down a random cliff wall in the enclosure while Tim gets yeeted off the cliff into in the jeep.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um one of uh kind of one of the first times I noticed like weird continuity issues in a movie. Like even when I was younger, I was like, well, how did the T-Rex get how's the T-Rex standing there when it's a giant cliff? Why is there a giant cliff all of a sudden, right where the T-Rex came from? Did he jump?
SPEAKER_04Maybe there's that like in like the tiger enclosure, there's that big pit where they can't jump across.
SPEAKER_01Isn't it I you wouldn't even see the T-Rex if it was standing there, and that's where it came in. It's just one of those small moments where I was like, Where'd that even as a kid, I was like, where'd that cliff come from? Um, but it doesn't matter because it's fucking cool to see that Jeep fall down through there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the Jeep's gotta fall down. Yeah, that poor kid.
SPEAKER_01Man, these kids, therapy. They're gonna need it hard. So uh Ray figures out what Dennis did. Hammond asks Muldoon to get his grandchildren back. Sadler goes with him. Ray says the only uh the only way to get Jurassic Park online is Dennis, who at this current moment is trying to get his jeep unstuck. Sadly for him, he comes into contact with Dilophiosaurus, which I had the toy of. Uh reminds me of that one bird. Do you remember that bird? It like it spreads its wings out or like its uh feathers around its neck and kind of like dances around. Yeah, but it reminds me of that. That's great. Yeah, uh fucking love this dinosaur.
SPEAKER_04Spits in the eyes of its mates so they can't see what's about to happen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I love it. And it's just like, you know, Dennis. Is like essentially talking to you like a doggy. Hey doggy. They kind of attracted such a stick. And he's like, you stupid dinosaur. I like to think that the dinosaur ran after the stick and then heard that and said, What'd you fucking call me? Yeah. It's like, how don't you get in your little jeep, see what happens.
SPEAKER_04Just like conjures up a loogie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And so uh yeah, the dinosaur eats him. And uh Wayne Knight says he's really disappointed in this scene because he was upset that you didn't get to see him getting eaten by the dinosaur, and it wasn't as bloody and violent as it was in the book, apparently, which I really want to download the um audiobook for Jurassic Park now. That sounds awesome. Yeah. Um, just because I never read it or listened to it, so now I really want to. Hell yeah. It's probably on Spotify for free. Save a lot of free books. You're a premium guy. You know me. I'm fucking Mr. Premium if you pay for it. Um so Grant and legs are now safe. Grant goes to get Tim, who is stuck in the Jeep. I just realized his name is Timmy. And he's stuck in a Jeep. It's really not too far off from Lassie, where Timmy's stuck in a well. It literally just like Lassie gets eaten. Just like waves just came over me as I realized what I just said there. That's funny. You hear the whistle. Yeah. I I absolutely love though. This is a really sweet moment whenever he's trying to save him. Like, because you know, he's not like a kid guy, and he just handles the situation so well because how calm he stays, and like, all right, come on. And there's just like such this really sweet moment to where he goes up, he's trying to get on him out, and like the kid looks really sad. And he kid the the kids are great in this movie. Yeah. And then he just goes, he's like, I threw up. Oh and I was like, oh fuck.
SPEAKER_04And then Grant's like gross and then leaves him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then that would have been fucking good. But I just love that Grant's like, it's all right, I won't tell anybody. And I'm like, oh. Um, but yeah, uh, and then they start like kind of shimming down the tree, the Jeep begins to fall on them. Luckily, they are able to make it without getting crushed. And it gets back in, the kids like, we're back in the Jeep, we're back in the car again. And I'm like, God damn, this movie's so funny. Um, and then so we cut to Sattler and Muldoon, are back at the Jeeps, uh, and find Malcolm. They find the crash Jeep, but no Grant and kids while uh chilling on the back of the Jeep. Malcolm hears the T-Rex coming back. He is fairly alarmed. Uh then and they now have to drive off where the T-Rex is chasing them. They successfully make the escape. What a great, freaky scene. Oh, there's just nothing better than being on the back of a Jeep driving off. It's coming for you. It's coming for you. I don't did you ever happen. Did you ever play Dino Crisis on like the PlayStation? They have a scene like that. Hell yeah. I think uh I played both of them where I watched my brother play, I think, most of one. Then he got to the end and I couldn't wait for him to finish playing it because I wanted to watch the ending so bad that I saved over his changes. He was he looked at me and he said, I will never play a video game around you ever again. Because I used to force him to play games for me. Oh when it was a kid because I was bad at it. He gets so mad at me.
SPEAKER_04That game was so cool because he'd just be like in a room in a in a building, and then like a dinosaur bust through the walls.
SPEAKER_01I know. I got it on my little like Mew Mini. Incredible. Um, because then you play PlayStation games on there. The game kicks us. I haven't played it yet. I should need to whip that shit out and play it. They need to make another one. I'm sure the controls are horrible. Oh, uh like every PlayStation game ever made. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I just love the visual. Like, cause at one point they look in like the rearview mirror and you see.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and you see the little the objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it's like it's it's pretty close. You don't have to worry about that. But I mean, it's just that's like one of the shots that it's like you never think like as someone who's never made if you don't make movies, it's something kind of like never think of. And I remember I made like this really tiny short, and I just have this one scene where like I have like an assassin getting out of a car, and I just like make make it doors footsteps out, and then it's like I'm not saying that was like a good shot or anything, but I just wondered like my friends were like, Oh man, I never thought about like wanting to do a shot like that. How'd you think of it? I was like, movies. You know how many times, like in movies, some like a badass is getting out of the car and you just see their foot step out of the car first. It's like it's just taken from that. You gotta have good shoes. Yeah, and it's just like, but like, as much as that was a good idea on my part, like I would never have a billion good ideas like this, like Steven Spielberg does. It's so good.
SPEAKER_04Gotta start somewhere, Jesse.
SPEAKER_01That's true. I need to get back into making stuff, even if it's just like TikToks or something.
SPEAKER_04There's so many bad movies out there. You could just make one. That's true. I mean, damn.
SPEAKER_01I'd say not saying yours is gonna be bad, but like I mean, it'd probably be bad. But like, I mean, it's just like the amount of like really high budget movies that are so bad, it's like, of course they're giving YouTubers movies now. Um, so Grant and kids climb up a tree to stay safe from danger. When they get up there, they see some Rockyosauruses. Uh Grant tries to sing to them, and it works. The three snuggle up in a tree making small talk and jokes. Oh, like when Timmy starts making some jokes, he's so funny.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's like, What do you call a lesbian dinosaur? Unlike a lot of us.
SPEAKER_03I don't think that's what he says.
SPEAKER_04He's like, calm down, Timmy. It's like, damn, Timmy.
SPEAKER_01Keep it in your pants. Timma. Timma. They need to make the South Park version of Jurassic Park.
unknownGod.
SPEAKER_01How have they not done that? They make plenty of plenty of Steven Spielberger movies and those things, but they never go that far. So in the visitor center, Hammond and Sattler talk while he eats ice cream because he spared no expense. Hammond reminisces about a flea circus he once had, which are real things. Do you know anything about flea circuses? Yeah, there's one in the Walt Disney uh world. Yeah. Uh never heard of them until this movie, and looking it up, and I was like, wow, we do strange things. Little animatronic thing is pretty cool.
SPEAKER_04And it's like it looks like fleas are doing stuff. Yeah, because you can't see them because I guess they didn't know what fleas were? Uh yeah. Like the bane of head owners exist.
SPEAKER_01Like, no, you can't. I don't know. Yeah. So uh he says all that he wanted to do was create a real deal park where you can touch and see the animals. And all he has learned from this incident was to not hire dentists. He thinks that he can build the park better with less auto emotion. Sattler tells him he can't control the dinosaurs. The only thing that matters now are the three people that are missing. Um, Laura Dern. I know I haven't really spoken much about her, but um damn, she's looking fantastic in this. She's kind of like the voice of reasoning for everything, because you know, she's a woman in a movie. Um and I do love that like, you know, she does have like her because now if this movie came out, people would be like, oh, this woke ass trash. Laura Dern always saying, like, oh, woman inherits her. And then like, you know, like later Hammond's like, I should go because you know I'm a man. And she's like, oh, we'll talk about sexism later. I can just see people like, you know, now just being like, oh, woke Steven Spielberg trash. And it's like, but she she's right. She's right. It's like Hammond should not go out and try to fight raptors. He's not gonna be able to run away like Laura Dern could. The darn durn. She darned it. She darned it. She darned it hard. Wouldn't mind her darning me. So in the morning, the bracketosaurus wakes them up by eating out of the tree that they are in. Uh they um they feed it some leaves. Uh, think it of as a big cow, uh, Grant says. And then it suddenly sneezes all over Lex. Poor girl. Gross cow. Gross. Seven rough days. Rough old day. Um, Tim very naturally brings up that Lex is a hacker.
Raptors On The Hunt And Final Fight
SPEAKER_01She sits on her computer and hacks all day.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she's got no father.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Maybe. Her parents probably they probably get sent off to boarding school for years.
SPEAKER_01Like, like, nothing worse than like a movie from the 90s and there's just a hacker kid. It's like now, okay, because computers are easy. What does she do? Just like go buy a hacking book? I don't know. I mean, you learn to hack as like a 10-year-old or computer.
SPEAKER_04Computers and like the internet were so new. That is true.
SPEAKER_01Probably not nearly as many safeguards as there kind of is now. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but there's just nothing worked than worse than when a movie says, Oh, we also have this 13-year-old hacker. It's like, oh fuck me. They can do anything. Couldn't you just say it's like, yeah, she doesn't really actually like outdoor stuff. She's more of like a computer person and like nerdy computer person that likes to play games on the computer and stuff. That would have been fine. You didn't have to say the word hacker. Yeah. She's just not like she hacks into anything.
SPEAKER_04LOJ Island Adventure. Yeah. It's like this movie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we have this fish game that you just kind of click things, finger out puzzles. I had that game. Yeah. Mom played that game a lot. I like to watch her play. I like to watch people play games with my little kids. Um, and I guess that's why I do that now as an adult on YouTube. Yeah, that's comforting. So then Grant finds some raptor eggs and he's like, oh fuck. Eats them. Oh mom. But they are girls. But because they use amphibians and certain frogs can change sex. Well, life found a way.
SPEAKER_04That means they used the one frog that could do it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. The African, some type of African frog.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Sex the African sex changes.
SPEAKER_01This is why I don't like frogs. They ruin everything. In the control room, Malcolm is looking sexy as fuck. He's just kind of like laying out his shirt as shit. Yeah. I think my wife at one point either had like a it was like a screensaver or something on her computer. Or um of maybe it was a poster. I should have asked her before I did this. Yeah, I mean, this is like the hottest he's ever looked. I mean, his bod's great. He's like, you know, he's just got that nerdy charm and so much charisma and swagger. Yeah. I mean, like he became like a fucking sex idol here. God, he's so cool. Everybody loves him. Um, so Hammond says the only way to wipe out what Dennis did, they have to shut down the entire system. Much to Ray's dismay. They have to. Or Hammond's dismay. Uh, we learn that the animals don't produce lysin and will die if they don't get it. Uh, but they're like, well, we can't wait like two weeks for this to happen. Uh Ray shuts down all systems. Well, onto your buttons. I completely forgot about that when they said that. They don't produce lysin. Yeah, so it's like an important amino acid, and they have to feed it to him directly. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, I know. It's something like totally missed that. Like something that never processed in my head until I had to type it onto a computer, and I'm like, don't ever remember that. But yeah. Um, and so it worked, but they have to turn on the breakers again. Ray has to go do it. Uh three are making their way back until they see a bunch of dinosaurs running. Uh the kid and Grant. Uh at first, uh, they're running away from them and then they turn straight towards them. They hide behind a log, and then a T-Rex runs out of the woods and eats one, and it's magnificent. I think they're if you boil down the amount of time, this two hour and seven minute movie, the dinosaurs are only in like I think it was like 10 or 16 minutes worth of shots. Yeah. But it doesn't feel like it.
SPEAKER_04No. It's because it feels like they're always present. Yeah, it's chasing you.
SPEAKER_01It's this weird thing. Like that's why it's so scary. It's this really weird thing in blockbusters. Um that new blockbusters don't really understand anymore. It's that like when you have all the cool CGI and action shit that um you don't have to have a lot of it if you well build a well-built story with good actors and characters that you'll end up thinking about and liking forever. It's this weird thing. It makes a really good movie, and just like for some reason we just forgot how to do that. Is it I'm being snarky?
SPEAKER_04No, that's fun. Like, but I think you're right, because sometimes the scariest monster is the one you can't see.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, it's just like it's the whole Jaws thing, right? You the Jaws is on screen for like two minutes of that movie, but the whole time you're like, Yeah, I fucking love Jaws. That shark's terrifying. It's like, no, the actors were good actors, the characters were great, and the filmmaking was great. Instead of just like, I want to see a T-Rex for 182 minutes, and then I'll be and you know, completely forget about the movie because it looked like trash, and I don't even know the main characters apes. You know what? Maybe that review was.
SPEAKER_04How does it feel up there on your high horse, Jesse?
SPEAKER_01You know, clip clop, clip clop. It's just like I wanted a smaller horse. It was just the that is the biggest it's just a big horse. I can't help it. That was bad. Okay, so um Satler is getting worried that it's taking Ray too long. So her and Muldoon lock and load to find him. They walk right past the Raptor Cage where we see that they have escaped Muldoon, also great name. Um Muldoon says that they are being hunted because they get kind so they get to where the breakers are gonna be, and Sattler's like, I see the building, let's go. And he's like, Hold on, we're being hunted. Fuck. It's like, what do you mean? It's like in the in the bushes.
SPEAKER_03He's like, Run!
SPEAKER_01Because he's gonna like try to hold off, and she just spooks it. And something that uh Laura Darren's really good at in this movie is running and then panic running and then yeah, panic running and then stopping the I was like, damn, she's fucking crushing this shit.
SPEAKER_04Um and she's injured too, so she's like, oh, so terrified. Yeah, I just love it.
SPEAKER_01It's like Sattler tells her to run because he's like, I because he's like, I got you.
SPEAKER_04And if you ever did go to this island, you you need to like work on your cardio.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that is like it's a very good idea, though. It's like, all right, I'm going to uh uh island full of dinosaurs. It all seems safe, but just in case, I'm gonna pack on 60 pounds of muscle and learn how to run really fast for a long time. Wear ankle weights. Yeah. So she makes it to the break room. Meanwhile, Grant and the kids are at an electrical fence that is turned off. He pretends to be electrocuted. I put my notes. I think the kids have been through enough, Grant. I don't think we have to do this anymore. I'm surprised they're even able to move from all the line up, kids. Just joke. So with a T-Rex hot on their tails, they scurry up the fence while Sattler is making her way to the breakers. She's about to turn the power back on while the kids are still on the fence. Um, and then Lex gets off and Grant gets off. The alarm goes off that there's a power is about to come back on. Grant tries to get Tim off, but Tim is uh struggling and is too scared to jump down. He's like, You won't catch me. He eventually is lexicon off the fence twice. I know. It's just like, let's go.
SPEAKER_00So good.
SPEAKER_01Um it's fucked up. Yeah, and then oh, such a really good jump scare happens because Sattler's like so excited, she turns it back to like a bunch of chords. You never do it in a movie. Sattler, Ellie, come on now. And the T the Velociraptor is like, ah, gotcha bitch. Uh and so yeah, it sneaks up behind her. She gets away from it and thinks she found Ray, but it's just his arms. She makes it out the building alive, luckily. Muldoon is hunting one of the raptors and he thinks he has a shot, but it's a trick because it's a clever girl. It's a drop. It's a clever girl. And he dies. It's great because it's like one raptor is like distracting him while the other one like comes up right next to his face. Yeah. And I love that the raptor was smart enough to let him get off one good line. Oh god. Ah, this movie's so good. It made me feel really bad for Spider-Man Homecoming that we're doing next because I was like, man, I just watched like a five-star movie. Yeah. Like, even though I really I like homecoming. I was just like, I actually started doing notes. I was like, I'll actually do it the next morning while I was tired, but also because I was like, I gotta, I gotta get the Jurassic Park stink off me so I can appreciate another. Because sometimes I'm like that when I watch a really good movie and then go to another one. I'm like, this ain't hitting like the other one did because you know, trust parts of the city. Oh, he's chasing that baby. Yeah, try chasing that dinosaur. Talking so fast. So Grant performs CPU R on Tim. He's alive though. They make it back to the visitor center, but nobody is there. Grant leaves them in the cafeteria alone to find someone. The kids are about to chow down. All that food looks delicious. I know. When he walks up to those desserts, I was like, ooh. Yes, please. Uh Grant found Settler. Her words are run. Um there's also a little fact I read about the CPR thing. So Sam Neil was doing CPR, but he was trying to do it to where he like doesn't really touch the kid. Yeah. And eventually, I guess he's like, all right, it's not working for screen. So he did the actual CPR round. Um, and but I guess the kid said, Yeah, that was actually uh my first kiss.
SPEAKER_00Oh, man.
SPEAKER_01Because he was just like Sam Neal, uh, you know, good guy, not weird, pervert guy that was in Hollywood, was like, I don't want to put my mouth on this kid.
SPEAKER_04He's at the funeral, there's an open casket, and he's just like, just one last.
SPEAKER_01Tim's like, I never forgot this. Weird turn we took this. So while the kids eat and be merry, Lex notices that a raptor is in the building. Because it's like you behind Tim is the raptor like painting, and then you see the shadow coming up, and it's like, this movie is never gonna stop being iconic from from like end to end. It's just a perfectly iconic movie.
SPEAKER_04The the kitchen scene is so crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because they run in the kitchen and we get the iconic ass scene. Masterful. Uh, then we get a short scene of Sattler saying only two raptors are out, and about unless they learn how to open doors, cut to Raptor opening a door. Perfect.
SPEAKER_04Very raptor-proof, this place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, it's like, I didn't know they knew how to use doors. They didn't spare all the expenses. So we hear the raptor make its iconic noise, calling for a second one. It's such a good noise. This the sound of the dinosaurs are fantastic in this. That's I know we've said it before, but we have to keep saying it. So the keets, the key. The kids sneak around, avoiding them. They sexually successfully sneak around until one almost gets Tim. Lex causes a distraction. She tries to hide in something, but can't get the door closed. But luckily, the raptor sees a reflection and knocks himself silly.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they hired a good cleaning staff. That thing is shine through a mirror.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure they barely use that kitchen because they probably only have two people working in this kitchen. Um shit, lost my place. Uh yeah, I love when it hits it and just kind of knocks himself out. That was great. So funny. So um then Tim like makes his break. He tries to run to the freezer, but one follows him in. But luckily, uh, it's slippery and the raptor falls, and Tim's able to get out. And I put in my notes uh Ice Age, am I right?
SPEAKER_04Good thing they don't know how to open doors. Yeah. Well, this kind of door, you have to push like the thing. Yeah, you have to like push a button to do it.
SPEAKER_01It's like, damn, I haven't seen someone do that. So the other one wakes up, but luckily Grant and Sattler find them. They go into the control room, but the doors don't lock. Luckily, they have a hacker in their midst. She successfully reboots the systems. I mean, it seems like an easy system, so it's not that bad, but it's still weird that they had a whole hacking thing.
SPEAKER_04Pre-Windows. No, the Windows was around.
SPEAKER_01Well, she said it's some sort of program that she knows. It's a it's got files. Good thing I'm a hacker. Yeah. It's just it really is just the fact that they used the word hacker. Yeah. If she was just in computers, I'd be like, I get it. I was into computers. What didn't know how to do hacking, because you know, AOL. Um, but yeah, so the phones now work. Grant tells Hammond to send in the damn helicopters. The raptors break through the glass to chase them some. Uh more. They hop into the ceiling. Uh the raptors try to get them, but they escape a level one raptor's like, Hey, get out of here.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it gets up right on the panel she's on, and like, he's like, who's on my head?
SPEAKER_00Gonna eat you.
SPEAKER_01So they make it out into the lobby, still being chased by the raptors. They climb on some dyno bones, they all fall off. When there seems to be no hope, the Deus X T-Rex shows up and fights off the raptors. They escape into the Jeeps, driven by Hammond. After much consideration, I've decided not to endorse your park. So have I. Uh the T-Rex beats the raptor and roars as the T-Rex balls banner falls in front of her. And I ejaculate. Hands free and everything. Finally. Flew into the ceiling. So much of it. It's like that scary movie two scene when they're in the freezer and he's trying to warm her up. He's like, Yeah, keep doing that. And then she likes sprayed into the thing. That was what it was like for my computer. And everybody turned off the podcast. Um ejaculating too. Yeah. Welcome. Everybody's nice and relaxed after watching this movie. So the gang get into a helicopter to escape. Grant and the kids fall asleep in each other's arms. While looking out of the windows, they see some pelicans flying. Look that are just essentially fucking dinosaurs. They look prehistoric. Yeah, you know what?
SPEAKER_04They should have, they should have had that fucking. Crazy ass like stork thing, you know? That sounds like a fucking gun going off whenever it shatters.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. It looks very that isn't the fucking dinosaur. Yeah, it looks crazy. I love that thing. I remember like videos used to go around all the time about it being like, uh yeah, Jurassic Park real baby.
SPEAKER_04Like five feet tall and they're just like clacking their beak. And God, that thing could eat a child. So cool. Fucking God, I'd watch it. Beat it my firstborn.
SPEAKER_01Jason, what's the point of Jurassic Park?
SPEAKER_04Uh, I guess um if you're gonna try to uh play God,
The Point, Ratings, And Next Picks
SPEAKER_04hire better hire better stuff.
SPEAKER_01Hire better stuff. Yeah, I was like when humans try and play God, God bites back. Yeah, God bites. And honestly, this movie is more relevant than ever. When rich people play God with their money, disaster is inevitable.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure. You know, like giant rockets blowing up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Stuff like that. They shouldn't have had dinosaurs piloting.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's just yeah, man. I mean, it's just never thinking about like the point of Jurassic Park and just watching it based off, you know, it look cool, it it cool. It is fucking. But like when you think about it, it's just like, oh yeah, I mean, this is just uh uh commentary on fucking rich people.
unknownYeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04If you're gonna do this in the future, just like put up a bunch of cameras and just stream that shit.
SPEAKER_01I also love that like Spider-Man Homecoming is also about like, man, fucking rich people putting their boots on the throats of you know the middle class. I mean it's like put everything in I didn't think about that. It's like watching all the movies we do, it's all this kind of stems back from like fucking rich people suck and they ruin everything.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Capitalism is the real dinosaur. Yeah. Eating everyone.
SPEAKER_01So we're gonna hit up our categories. The good, the bad, the ugly, the fine. It's where we just got something good, something we love, the bad, something we didn't like, the ugly, something that did not age well defined, something that did age well. Um, the good, everything. I mean, it's I don't know. I mean, it's the actors are fantastic, cinematography's fantastic. The CGI CGI has never been better since this movie. It's insane. Not really. I mean, there's stuff like there's other movies that have really good CGI. I'm not gonna say that, but um, you know, it's just it really does feel like sometimes we peek with CGI with this movie. Um, and then you know, Spielberg is the best, so Dinosaur is good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, I think it's the the idea of the um the scariest things or the things we know nothing about and are kind of invisible sometimes. Yeah. But they're coming after you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and uh yeah, pretty much. So uh the bad for me is too many sequels.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_01Let it die. It's over. Make up make up a different Jurassic Park scenario or something. Yeah. Just make other dinosaur movies in some other ways. I mean, I guess you can't. I mean, can't bring them back, otherwise you're just a Jurassic Park repeat. And I don't know, just caveman days. I'd watch an I'd watch an entire movie with cavemen live with dinosaurs, and there's there's no words, it's just grunts and shit.
SPEAKER_04Fuck yeah. They were like the the cavemen figure out they're on an island with dinosaurs, and then at the very end they realize that they're all just being filmed. Yeah. And the world has gone on without them knowing, and they're just created in a lab.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Or just, I mean, I don't know, fucking go to space, land on a planet, and it's a dinosaur plant. That'd be awesome. I guess that's what that Adam Driver movie kind of was, but again, it's just But it's not run by a corporation.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's true. You have to have an evil corporation that's more evil than the dinosaurs themselves.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. So for the Dino Core. Dino Core. Ooh, good name. Love it. We're making it. It'd probably be like Dino Core. Dino Core. Yeah, it'd have to have like a weird, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh for the ugly, I put Hammond might be the worst boss ever. Boy, straight up has the worst crew possible. I mean, really not the worst crew possible, but Dennis, I mean, come on. What one one bad person that runs everything is just, you know, yeah, maybe have a backup. Yeah. It's like, what does the night shift up to at this point, right? Um, you got anything ugly ugly or not really.
SPEAKER_04Um, I mean, it's it's so good that you can just kind of overlook everything, I guess.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's why that's why I was like, man, I'm kind of picking apart too many things, and it's like it doesn't matter. Uh for the fine, I put Spielberg and all the actors and um the CGI, of course.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think anytime you got a theme park that goes absolutely nuts, is just such a fun idea. I love that.
SPEAKER_01I love when theme parks go hard. All right, we're gonna move on to our next category double features. Recommend a movie that goes alongside this movie. Jason, I picked a movie that some people like, some people don't like. It's really long. Um, but you know, Peter Jackson before he just, you know, made every movie he makes is bad at the time afterwards. Uh King Kong.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, King Kong's great. I love it. Uh the one with Jack Black? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's a very fun movie. You know, the CGI is not as good as it was at the time, but I don't know. I'm just looking at a trailer for it and it fucking looks great. Um, but yeah, I loved the movie as a kid. It also had a dope ass video game that came along with it. Um that I played through and was great. Jack Black, Naomi watched, Adrian Bloaty, bro, Bloaty. Andy Circus plays uh Kong. It's great. Something better. Nice in common. It was really good. Kyle Chandler's in it, and that's always a good thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, what do you got for double features? So mine was this movie I watched on cable television. Really old, bad movie called Carnosur. Yeah. Where a geneticist makes he creates uh dinosaurs basically to kill everyone on earth, and they he puts them into like chicken eggs in on a chicken truck and it comes out and kills everyone. Oh, it's so bad.
SPEAKER_01Something I really something I love about it is like I see all this shitty, like you know, filmmaking in it, and like how bad things look. Do you know the best part about it? Came out the exact same year as Jurassic Park. Yeah, what did it do? 1993. First or like after? That I'm not sure. I'm not seeing like a release.
SPEAKER_04We gotta do it first, but it can't be as good. Yeah. Yeah. Spielberg gave us permission, but he said it just can't be good.
SPEAKER_01It probably is it's like Asylum that's like a production company that makes like movies to trick your grandma into buying you the wrong movie. Nice um type of things. Uh it does feel kind of like one of those situations. All right, Jason. That's our ending to the Jurassic Park podcast. I want you guys to join us next week for when we discuss Spider-Man Homecoming. Spider-Man. Continuing our popcorn flick blockbuster summer here. Um, which I guess we've been doing anyways, because like all the movies we've done has been kind of big blockbusters from Guardians. Yeah, I would even say um O'Brother Arthur was kind of it made a lot of money. So I feel like it's kind of a blockbuster as well. For sure. Um we're doing Spider-Man Homecoming. Kind of a celebration for the new Tom Holland Spider-Man. Uh and I like Tom Holland and Spider-Man. I was a little worried whenever I said we should do it, and I was like, because I was gonna say we should do the first, the Toby Maguire one, but I was like, no, the new one's coming out, let's just do this one. And I love the Toby Maguire ones, those are my favorites. And but I was like, no, let's just do it. So a little worried when I was watching it. I was like, I hope it's as good as I remember, and then I was like, yep, liked it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I liked it too. I can't wait to talk about it.
