Debating The Batman Voice
SPEAKER_00So let's immediately discuss what do you think of Christian Bell's Batman voice? A voice most people say is a little too much. I disagree.
SPEAKER_04I think it is it is a little too much. He's trying so hard to be terrifying.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think that's why it works. I don't know. I just in this movie it for sure works.
SPEAKER_04Well, like Michael Keaton never needed to do that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it's like, why didn't people not know that it's obviously persuaded? No, but I like I I do kind of love like Batman.
SPEAKER_04I mean I think it's great. It is kind of funny. It's just a little ridiculous. It makes me laugh sometimes. Yeah. Like sometimes it's not scary. It's just like.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I yeah, I mean, like, watch it. If I was in that situation, be like, Jesus Christ, what is this?

First Watches And Why It Worked
SPEAKER_00So um when did you first watch Batman Begins? I'm not sure. I just uh in high school, probably. Immediately like it? Yeah. I think you had probably been out of high school, actually. Yeah, probably. 2005?
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah. I was in college. Yeah. Because I was in high school, I believe.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, I loved it. Like a great origin story like this. Just going to ninja school.
SPEAKER_00And we like we really just didn't have a superhero movie like this. Whereas it's like there's a huge sense of realism to it, which is insane. Like how well this movie looks and like how immediately you can just be like, Yeah, sure, all this tech exists. It looks real enough to me.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and also it made uh Scarecrow one of my favorite villains ever. He's terrifying. Yes, his gasps, his drug gas. His weapon is just like altering reality.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, his weapon is to make you cuckoo crazy. And it works so well. And Cillian Murphy being the guy that does it, because he's got these like piercing blue eyes that I love. Yeah. And it's just like you kind of can't not help but look in his eyes. And then it's like, if you do, go put a mask on.
SPEAKER_04And like the the weapon that they use when they turn Gotham into a microwave emitter or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's a sick idea. I know. It's like Christopher Nolan's always wanted to do a Bond movie, and it's like, fucking give him a Bond movie, dude. Just essentially what Tennant was, his version of a Bond movie. Nice. So the first time I watched it, it was me and Richard. We went to the theaters and we were the only two people in there, and it was such a blast. Oh. We were just kind of like, even before the movie started, we were just kind of running around with theaters. Like, it's like, wouldn't it be funny if like something happens and like one of us runs down? Did you see that? Point at the screen. But it was just immediately like, whoa, this is this is what we want from superhero movies. Yeah. And for a minute, it is what we wanted from superhero movies. And the MCU kind of like, don't you what would you think about this being your superhero movies? And it's like, it was great at first until your CGI looked like crap. Um, but and that's what I love about you know, just Nolan in general. Obviously, I wanted to do this because hot off the Odyssey, it's just like, God, he's such a good filmmaker. Yeah. Even though sometimes I feel like I don't want to say that he is for some reason. Like, I don't know what it is. I guess because like everybody is like such a huge fan with him, and like a lot of his like fandom is bros. It's like I'm not a bro, but every time I watch his movie, I'm like, fuck, it was good, dude. This movie rips. Yeah. This guy rips, he knows what he's doing. Um, but yeah, just I don't know, just the way he puts his costume together, having Lucius uh Fox being like, hey, we actually have all this tech. You want to look at it? I'm like, that's such a smart idea. It's like, oh, you your father and stuff was actually making all this thing. Well, not I guess that was the guy that Earl was the one that was doing it. I guess mainly because he was making weapons.
SPEAKER_04Um I I love the fucking was it like a monastery where he trained?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, it's like almost like a monk.
SPEAKER_04Just becoming a shadow. It's just a coolest shadow and shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that stuff's great in the uh comic books. And Razal Ghoul's such a good villain. Um of course they just you know having the bait and switch of Liam Neeson not being Descartes and being Raz Alghoul, and it's just like, yay, this is fun. And his comic book character is the fact that he can come back to life. That's Raz Alghoul's like thing.
SPEAKER_04He always comes back to life. A new person kind of takes up the mantle. No, he literally comes back to life.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. If I'm remembering right, I've I've only read like a couple of comics with Rosal Ghoul in them.
SPEAKER_04Um always been a white British dude. That's his thing.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember if he was always white and British. I don't know if that was a Nolan thing. I don't think he was. I can't remember. Now off the top of my head, I should have looked it up
Ranking Batmen And Villains
SPEAKER_00more. I'm curious who's your favorite Batman. You got Michael Keaton, um, Val Kilmer, who is a great Bruce Wayne. Yeah. Michael, uh um Val Kilmer is like the first 20 minutes of that movie is actually pretty fantastic.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Batman Forever was my shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love that one. Um, and then of course, you got George Clooney as maybe the worst Batman. Yeah. And then Belle Ben Affleck, who I thought was actually doing a pretty good job. I don't see um just in bad movies. Or like, actually, I thought Batman vs. Superman was all right. Um, and then our boy Rob Robert Pattinson, who's emo, my chemical romance Batman. I think he's great. I just can't wait to see The Batman. Came out in 2022. Oh, I think it's yeah, it's like three hours, it's way too long. They're trying to set up like 15 shows and all this shit. And it's just like, make one movie. Yeah, just do the thing. And now it's 2026, and we've yet to have another Batman. So it's like kind of done it. Well, yeah, but they got a sequel coming out, and it's like, is it coming out? Like at this point, Robert Pattinson's gonna be an old man. But I'm very excited for it. I will always be excited for Batman movies because Bitman. Yeah, uh, yeah, and it's like even though Dark Knight Rises has so many issues, um, plot holes, and it's just insane. Bane just fucking makes that movie. Like the fight scene where he breaks Batman's back is just it's like one of my favorite scenes ever. It's like you were born, or you were you adopted, you simply adopted the darkness. I was born in it, molded by it.

SPEAKER_00Tom, goddamn hardy. Sophisticated evil. Um, I'm not gonna lie, I think Christian Bell's my favorite Batman. Nice. And it's it's he's pretty good. It's the Batman that I've known the most and that I've watched the most, so it's like he's my favorite.
SPEAKER_04I think uh just judging by these like the Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises, like I fucking fell in love with that with that Batman. Yeah. Because it it kicks so much ass. And the villains are so good.
SPEAKER_06Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's what the Nolans get so perfectly is the villains. Yeah. It's just uh so good. Um do you have a favorite villain? Just bat like from comics or just even in the movies? Is there like a favorite villain?
SPEAKER_04Well, I just I don't know. Uh I think Scarecrow might I mean the Joker kicks ass. But like that's the best Joker in the Dark Knight. That's the one that I've ever seen. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And like it's don't sleep on the Nicholson one. I love that one is so good.
SPEAKER_02Ever dance with a devil in the pale moonlight. He's got that giant gun. Nobody ever touches my rhubarb.
SPEAKER_00It was very like I love the 90s one because like it's so comic booky and like just kind of silly. Yes. And oh, you should. They have um Colin Farrell is the penguin in the Batman. Yeah, I haven't seen that one. You gotta watch it. He's because you're like, that's Colin Farrell, he does such a good job. And I also love the Riddler and the Batman. Yeah, Jim Carrey? Oh no. Oh no, no, no. The new one.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_00Because Jim Carrey was so uh low-key preferred Two-Face from Batman and Robin than uh the two-face we get in the Jones. Yeah, I prefer that one instead of the one we get in the Dark Knight. I do too. Actually, for the most part, like some of my I love The Dark Knight. It's probably my favorite Batman movie, obviously, and it's mostly due to the Joker and just the fact that it's some of the best filmmaking you'll see. But once we get to the very ending and it's just like two-faced shit, like holding guns to kids, I'm like, I don't give a shit about two-faced in this movie.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, there's no reason to.
SPEAKER_00And I know a lot of people like usually when I say that, people are like, What? That no, you're dumb. And I'm like, it just doesn't affect me as much.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it it seems like they're trying to set up for a two-faced movie or something.
SPEAKER_00No, well, he dies in that one.
SPEAKER_04Right. Yeah, but like they didn't do a good enough job of like setting up his character.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, it's just like maybe if it was a different actor or something. I don't know. It just I think it is honestly the show was just stone stolen by Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight. And it's just like as soon as his arc is done, I'm like, I don't give a shit about this movie anymore. It's wild. It's just a performance that deserved the Oscars, and he got the Oscar, and it's just like R.I.P. Heath Ledger. I just wish you were still alive because you're such a good actor. Let's bring him back from the death. Seemed like a good person. Um, but yeah, my my favorite villain is obviously Heath Ledger Joker. Um, if I had a pig, it'd be Ledger Joker, Bain, probably Jack Nicholson Joker.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh and I really liked Riddler in the new Batman. And then probably a tie between the penguin and the Bat. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04They're all very good. Check out the new Riddler. Jim Carrey, I loved it.
SPEAKER_00It's Zodiac inspired. Nice. It's very like detective base, the new one, which is, you know, he's supposed to be the world's greatest detective base. Batman Forever was just goofy as hell. No, Batman and Robin is goofy as hell. Yeah, that's true. I can't even remember who who Yeah, because Batman and Robin, it's freeze poison ivy.
SPEAKER_04Dumb as shit.
SPEAKER_02What killed the dinosaurs, the ice age.
SPEAKER_04I did like his buddy slippers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That was fun. That maybe. Man, we me and Allie rewatched it and we're like, whoa, this just fucking sucks. Yeah. It was almost not even fun to watch, even though it's so goofy. You have to watch that in the right situation. Otherwise, even the goofiness of it is bad. Um, so out of the three Nolan Batmans, you got a favorite? Dark Knight? I'd say.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, probably Dark Knight.
SPEAKER_00Same.
SPEAKER_04When the fucking truck comes over and says slaughter is the best medicine. Yes, son. Yeah. And then he flips a whole fucking truck.
SPEAKER_00Flip that shit. Yes. Uh Dark Knight is inspired by one of my favorite movies, Heat. Nice. Which is a Michael Mann movie, and we're gonna do it eventually. I can't wait. I don't I've never seen it. Yeah, it's three hours, so that's why we haven't done it yet. I have to really prepare to do that one. Um, for superheroes, uh, is this your favorite origin story?
SPEAKER_01Maybe.
SPEAKER_04I really I I will be honest, I really liked Iron Man's origin story.
SPEAKER_00Very similar.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um I mean, up to the point where Iron Man and Batman both have families, uh, fathers that created the business. They did not take it seriously in their younger age. Um, they get all their tech from stuff from their own like company and to become a superhero to fight against honestly the own tech that they made. And it's like, wow, Iron Man, Batman, same characters.
SPEAKER_04But I I do like I think this one might be my favorite just because it shows him like uh being, I guess, an angsty teenager, like stealing from himself. Yeah, it's so fun. Like, why? Why are you doing this? Just like you could just have it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I mean, like, and it's hard to like, you know, go against the origin story where the main person that, you know, pushed him to become Batman was a character named Joe Chill. Yes. Hell yeah. Played by Richard Brake, who rules. He is uh Barbarian. Remember doing that movie? He's the the monster underneath the guy that's the guy in the yeah, yeah. He's always a great bad guy because he seems scary, even though apparently he's a lovely person. Oh, that's nice.
Reboot What Ifs And Nolan Influences
SPEAKER_00So we'll hop into some facts. Darren R. Aronofsky, you know him? He did uh Recue and for a Dream and Black Swan. Oh, hell yeah, those are good movies. He was originally the one attached to reboot the series. So before Nolan came along, Darren Aronofsky uh was attached to Helm Batman reboot. His vision for the character was as a homeless teenage punk working in Gotham City garage, but this was deemed too revisionist by Warner Brothers. Aronofsky also flirted the idea of casting Clint Eastwood as an elderly Batman, substituting Gotham City for Hong Kong. Warner Brothers decided to politely decline that pitch as well. Which the Clint Eastwood as an elderly Batman it's been that was uh something that a lot of people actually thought would have been a pretty decent idea.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um uh Christopher Nolan uh was a fan before directing all the Batman films. Um he's not. Yeah, he loved the but his favorite, he didn't really that the Tim Burton ones weren't his favorite. It was actually the Adam West that got him into Batman. And then like he loved the Neil Adams Batman comics in his youth and the Frank Miller graphic novels.
SPEAKER_04Besides the Tim Burton ones. Yeah. Oh, they're fantastic.
SPEAKER_00They're great, they're so much fun.
SPEAKER_04All the penguins with fucking rocket launchers attached to God all day.
SPEAKER_00It's just like it it's it just shows that you can do two versions of the same movie, right? Like going off the wall goofy versus um realistic, and then in the middle of those two, they went way too off the wall goofy and just couldn't figure it out. Um, Blade Runner was actually a source of inspiration. The Ridley Scott classic was one of the main films that inspired Nolan's Batman begins. Nolan even invited some of the film crew for a private screening before production began. After the screening, Nolan turned to his crew and declared, This is how we're going to make Batman. Nolan is a huge admirer of the attitude and style of filming used in Blade Runner and had stated that the film is an interesting lesson on the technique of exploring and describing a credible universe that doesn't appear to have any boundaries. That's something that was keen to apply in his own film. Nice. I was like, Yeah, I see that. And also just like, even when you see Gotham, which this is the last time Gotham looked like a Gotham. Right. Because in the next movies it looks like Chicago where they filmed all. Um, but it's just, you know, like when they go into like this kind of like the slums of Gotham, it's all brown, all the buildings look brown. There's like it's kind of foggy almost. It's very, very Blade Runner-esque.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you're right. It's it is kind of like post-apocalyptic.
SPEAKER_00The city slowly going into ruins. Hell yeah. So Nolan had a short list of actors he considered for the role. These included like Keanu Reeves, Jake Gyllenhaal, whose sister Maggie Gyllenhaal later was in The Dark Knight. Nice. Um, and Joshua Jackson from Dawson's Creek and Fringe. Other actors suggested for the role was uh Billy Krutup, Celia Murphy, and Henry Cavill, who eventually becomes Superman.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Henry Cavill is one of my favorite. Like, as the Witcher, he kicks so much ass. He's so big a muscle. Yes, god.
SPEAKER_00I remember when I heard um, I always kind of wanted Jake Gyllenhaal to do Batman. But now I don't think he would be a good Batman. Just he's got that child that childlike vibe, you know. Like when we're talking about Donnie Darko, where it's like he'd such he looks like a little kid. He acts like a kid.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, if it maybe they'll do like a Teen Titans version of Batman as a teenager. Yeah, that would be kind of fun.
SPEAKER_00And honestly, out of all the names we listed, I could see Henry Cavill out of all of them the most being uh Batman. Just the he just exudes brute strength. Yeah, it's just like that. But and watching this, like even though like Christian Bell's ripped to shit, him being like smaller in stature, I feel like is a more realistic version of someone's gotta jump around a lot and fight. That makes sense. Um so but Nolan eventually went with Christian Bell. Christian Bale managed to beat all comers and securing the role for Vigilante. When asked about his decision to cast Bell, Nolan stated Christian was exactly the balance of darkness and light that he wanted for the role.
SPEAKER_04They did it all based on this voice.
SPEAKER_00Could you uh talk like you're trying to uh not be yourself? It's like, all right, just a little bit less though. I want more guard. Um, so yeah, uh fun thing.
Bale’s Body Transformation Stories
SPEAKER_00So before this movie, Christian Bell did the machinist. You heard of it? I've heard of it. I'm not saying so he likes to morph his body. Yeah. So all he did for that, for the machinist to drop all that weight, because I think he was like addicted to meth or hero or something um in that movie. So to make his body look as thin as possible, all he ate was an apple a day and a cup of coffee a day. That's all he had. Fuck that. And so he dropped to 120 pounds. He where he lost 63 pounds for the role and was vastly underweight and weighed just 120 pounds when he auditioned for Nolan. That sounds dangerous. Yeah, that's yeah. He does that because he did that with um Vice, the where he played Dick Cheney. Um, he gained a shit ton of weight. Oh, that's um Jesus Christ. And so um after being cast, Nolan told Bell he needed to become as big as you can be. Bell took on a six-month dietary and exercise regimen, ended up weighing 220 pounds, 40 pounds over his normal weight. Bell had actually became too big for the role, and some of the crew reportedly dubbed him fat man. He now had to quickly shed 20 pounds in order to have a leaner and more muscular frame. The actor described the whole experience as unbearable physical ordeal. Sounds like torture. So he gained 100 pounds essentially, and then they're like, You gotta draw 20 of that.
SPEAKER_02It's like, well, figure out what you want.
SPEAKER_00Um, he disliked wearing the suit. Um, let's see. And so the actor revealed in 2020 that in his first scene, acting alongside Michael Cain and Morgan Freeman, he was meant to be asleep in bed, and Alfred and Fox would wake him up. However, Bell actually fell asleep, waiting for everyone else to get ready for the scene. He was woken by Cain, poking him in the rib, saying, Look at that, he's bloody falling asleep. He's probably in a fucking coma from all the weight stuff. Yeah. Um the scene where they're fighting on ice at the beginning, yeah, it was real ice. They're actually fought fighting on real ice. Um see. So there were some other names expect uh for Scarecrow. The main villain of the movie is uh Jonathan Crane, Scarecrow. Some famous names were considered for the part. Controversial star rock star Marilyn Manson was perhaps the most surprising. Other actors such as uh Doctor Who star Christopher Excelston and Ewan McGregor were on the short list. Um, but you know, um, he ended up going with Celia Murphy, who had auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne and pressed Nolan so much that he decided to cast him as the film's villain. Murphy took on the task of reading numerous comics featuring Scarecrow and discussed making the character look less theatrical with Nolan. Murphy explained in an interview with Empire magazine that he wanted to avoid the um Wurzel Gummage look, whatever that is. And he's not very physical imposing man, he's more interested in manipulation of the mind.
SPEAKER_04Um he looks like a creep.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, that kid uh that is in Gotham City when he's like, You're Batman. Yeah. Uh that was King Joffrey from Game of Thrones. Oh yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um and people what a horrible like I I hate I hated that character more than any other character I think ever. He's just they made him so terrible. I know. It was so satisfying when he died.
SPEAKER_00It's like, fuck you, brother. Um, but yeah, I think that's pretty much enough for the facts. And I think we're ready to get into the plot of the movie.

Plot Setup And League Training
SPEAKER_00Let's crack the side. So we open on Bruce Wayne playing with his friend Rachel. He falls into a well and a swarm about bats fly out in front of his face, and he's like, No.

SPEAKER_00And then he wakes up in Asia. It's like whoa.
SPEAKER_04Those bats are strong.
SPEAKER_00This is classic Nolan, right? Like he just can't help but make a movie where like the the time jumps are all over the place. He loves it. Um in Asia, Bruce wakes up from a nightmare and has to fight off six inmates. Fuck it. Because they're like, hey, white boy, rich man. We're gonna be able to do that. Is he like McCall? Uh I can't remember. Isn't it like it starts with a post? No. I can't remember. I wrote it down somewhere. I just can't remember where. Well, I thought I did in my notes.
SPEAKER_02Apparently not.
SPEAKER_00Um, so yeah, he fights off six inmates and then he's pulled into isles isolations because of protection. He's like, I don't need protection for them.
SPEAKER_04That's so hardcore.
SPEAKER_00It's a great way to start. Start. It's like, all right, he already knows how to fight. We're here. Um there he meets Drucard, who tells him to get a flower and take it to the top of the mountain. Then he can maybe join the League of Shadows. When he gets there, Descartes asks him what he seeks. He says, I seek the means to fight justice to turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. And then Dukard beats him up. He's like, but I just he's like, We now we have to fight. He's like, I just climbed a mountain.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'm so tired. It's like death does not wait. What if he got the wrong flower?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And the thing in this movie that I do not remember, even though I've seen it a thousand times, is the amount of fear talk in this movie. And I'm like, damn, they really lean on the fear. And I'm like, I get that's what Batman's whole thing is, but I'm just like, yeah, they really go for the fear. Scary people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So we cut to Bruce's father, picking him up and taking him inside to give him words of encouragement. Why do we fall? So we can pick ourselves back up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. We learn to pick ourselves back up.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I love it. And then and then when fucking Alfred repeats it back to him later, and it's like, ugh. So they go to the opera to watch a play about bats. Hey Dad. You remember how I fell down the bat? Well, how about this? Y'all leave me home next time, and we'll go see a movie about cats next time.
SPEAKER_04So we're gonna go see Happy Feet. What the fuck?
SPEAKER_00It's like just watch something else. And on the way to the opera, we learn that his father built a monorail so that citizens of Gotham can travel cheaply. Because Thomas Wayne was the goodest guy ever to be good. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00There's been no better man. And at the opera, Bruce has a pan attack and asks to leave. When they leave, a mugger by the name of Joe Chill uh shoots his parents, leaving his father to say one thing, don't be afraid. No. And afraid he is for a little while. Yeah, that would suck, man. Yeah, I'd be like, hey, say you love me too. Really? Those are your last words.
SPEAKER_04Don't be afraid. Never said he loved me. No, but I get you.
SPEAKER_00You never want your it's like I feel like that would be something. It's like, don't ever be scared. Keep your wits about yourself. Get through this situation.
SPEAKER_04It should have been call 911. I've been shot. Help me.
SPEAKER_00It is one of those things where it's like in this scene, like the only thing that kills me, I'm like, why did like I get that he's like, don't point the gun at my wife. I'm like, you see that this guy's bugging out. Don't make any quick movements. You dropped your wallet and it looked like he was ready to shoot you. Don't jump in front of your wife. But afterwards, Bruce is comforted by Jim Gordon, who is just a beat cop at the moment. Bruce is told the mugger has been arrested. A man comes up and tells Bruce that Wayne Industries is in good hands and when he grows up, the business is his after the funeral. Um his character's name's Earl. It's it is fun going back and seeing like Gordon in actual police uniform because it's like after this movie like honestly, after this scene, you never see him in a police uniform again. It's fun. He's just civilian clothes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's one of the like he's such a good character. Uh he's such a good actor.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean I love him in these movies. The absolute best. Gary Oldman. I mean, damn. Yeah. Makes me want to redo uh that mustache should have been I know it had its own separate paycheck. I wish I could full I can't pull off a mustache. Every time I like I always shave like the beard first off, and then I'm like, nah, let's do this. I know, that's always fun. What is it about men that really just want to have a mustache once in their life?
SPEAKER_04I know, because it's like you see, like Wilfred Brimley, like how did he do it? Yeah, can I do it? Sam Elliott. Uh yeah, Sam Elliott's even better.
SPEAKER_00What's the guy in Friends blanking on his name? I don't know. Yeah, me neither. I'm not gonna look it up. So uh after the funeral, Bruce feels that it is his fault for being uh scared. Alfred confronts him, just like, no, it's not your fault.
SPEAKER_02It's your father's fault.
SPEAKER_00Which Liam Mason will say soon. We get a montage of Bruce learning how to fall fight. They teach him invisibility, patience, theatricality, and how to fight on ice. Most importantly, he tells him that his parents' death was not his fault, but his father's because his father failed to act. Yeah, he's a weak piece of shit. He's trying to have Bruce embrace his anger and to get vengeance. Use it.
SPEAKER_04Like whenever he um they're teaching him to be invisible, and he I did not see that dude just sitting there on the pole when he pulls his hand up to show him the claws and like the gloves he was wearing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like I didn't I didn't even know he was there.
SPEAKER_00I don't even know what you're talking about. No, it was like when he shows him like the little wrist things.
SPEAKER_04Well, he's it he's like showing it's like we we use the tools of the the trade or whatever, and there's just a dude hanging upside down on a pole, and he like shows him the glove, how it's got the part, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like I want to do that. I know they the filming of like the ninja shit is it's always bad.

SPEAKER_00So now we cut back to where Bruce is a young man, around 20, and he's angry, doesn't even care about the mansion. He's like, Alfred, fuck you, fuck this place. Alfred tells him he doesn't care what Bruce does with the past, but he does care what he does with his future. Love, Michael.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Michael Khan's incredible.
SPEAKER_00Movie. God, he's the heart, I feel like. Bruce then gets a ride with Rachel, who tries to tell him not to come. Rachel's a district attorney for Gotham. She tells him that Joe shared a cell with Carmen Falcone and is gonna testify against him for early parole. Bruce says he cannot let that pass. And it's like so Joe Chill's released after only serving 14 years for murdering two people. Two billionaires. I'm like, excuse me? I'd be pissed off too. I mean, I get like from the DA's side, it's like, oh shit, we could take down a ringleader to Mahomes. That's true. They're just gonna get a new one. This motherfucker killed two people. You're gonna let them out after 14 years. Though, and I guess there is also the situation where it's just like it's because of Falcone, that's the reason Joe Chill was poor and desperate and did what he did and probably seem a junkie. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean because that usually happens with prison systems.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's great. That's our prisons are that's why we have them to rehabilitate everybody and not just like make them worse. Make them teach them more about crimes. Yeah. We have opinions about prisons. So Bruce seeking vengeance goes to shoot Joe, but on one of Falcone's men does it first, taking the revenge from Bruce. Bruce is glad Joe is dead. Rachel says, Revenge is not justice. Bruce says her system doesn't work. She shows him what Falcone is doing to Gotham, Joe just creating more Joe Chills. She takes him to where Falcone hangs out. He reveals that he was going to kill Joe Chill, and she slaps him twice, which is something you should do with a mentally unstable young man with a gun in his hand. And says, Your father would be ashamed of you. Bros throws the gun into the sea. It's Falcone, right? Not Falcone. I think it's Falcone. I'm sorry, I've been saying Falcone. I meant Falcone. Sorry, guys. Um it's Falcon. Falcon. Um yeah, love it. Like it's just pushing more and more into like all these little moments leading to him becoming Batman. And it's like he's slowly through this whole build-up is like it's like at first, because we're thinking, oh, he's gonna do everything that the League of Shadow says. But it's all these little moments with like Alfred and Rachel that's gonna give him what he needs to go along with all the League of Shadow stuff is to become Batman. And it's just like watching it this time, I was like, this is fun. I love this. Um, so Bruce goes to see Falcone, uh, where he flaunts his power in front of judges and councilmen. He threatens everybody he knows. He insults his father and then is thrown out. Bruce then decides to disappear and learn the ways of thieves and criminals. Now we're back with Dracard. He breathes in the flower he picked, which causes a hallucination. He has to defeat Dracard while Dukard? Ducard. While tripping balls and embrace his fears, Ducard hides himself with his men. Um so yeah, this is where we get this rat ass. I love this part. It's like one of my favorite parts of the movie. There's a lot of like one of my favorite parts of the movie in this movie. But yeah, when he got all like the League of Shadows, they're all dressed exactly the same, same as Liam Nason and Bruce Wayne. And like, you know, just every once in a while, um, Descartes like pops out and starts beating him up, and then they like hides back, and all the people fall in line. And then finally, Ducard slices Bruce Wayne's uh arm, and then so like Bruce is like, ah, I'm gonna hurt some other people's arms and hides with it, and Descartes thinks he's got him, and then Bruce is like eh eh so fast. Uh and it's just like that's one of the that's like the first scene like in the whole Batman trilogy. We're like, we might be in good hands here.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah. I think we're solid right now. Kicks so much ass. It reminds me a lot of that scene too from uh I a robot. Did you see that one? A long time ago.
SPEAKER_06I only saw it once.
SPEAKER_00Oh, is that where like the robots with all the other robots and he's like hiding between them? Okay, I vaguely remember that. Yeah. Um V too. Man, I need to rewatch it. I remember enjoying it the first time I watched it. I like the voice of the robot. So Bruce has finished his training, but now he has to execute a criminal, but he refuses. He says, What separates him from the rest of the criminals is compassion.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, just due process.
SPEAKER_00Love the compassion. Well, it's like, you know, don't want to become what you're trying to fight, you know? It's like if you want to become a murderer. How how much better are you?
SPEAKER_04It's just giving him his codes of I kind of sometimes I wish we had like an alter Batman that would murder people. Yeah, like uh the Joker.
SPEAKER_00It's like, yeah, he probably could have got rid of that guy. He seems like a psycho and he's definitely gonna get out. But that's like uh I mean, truly, I think they do that in comic books just so that it can have all the villains return.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we need a Batman to take out all these insurance C. Yeah. That's where or what Luigi. Yeah. He's our new Batman.
SPEAKER_00He's our new Batman. So Bruce learns of the League's true intentions to liberate Gotham from the evils that plague it by destroying the city. Bruce rejects the league and it and its mandate that killing is necessary. He escapes by burning down their temple in the process. Roz is killed by falling debris, while Bruce saves the unconscious Ducard. Damn compassion. Man, for the place uh and oh wait, the saving him by using the spikes on his wrists and like catching him. That was awesome. I'm like, whoa, my arm would have ripped off. I know. It would have hurt so bad. Especially Lam Neeson's 6'3. Yeah, that's gonna hurt. Yeah, but then later you see uh uh Bruce with his shirt off. He's like, ah, okay, he could have done it. He can handle it. He got it. Um what were we thinking about?
SPEAKER_01He looks like a fucking gymnast. Yeah, he really does.
SPEAKER_00Um so Bruce catches a flight on his private jet. He tells Afred he Alfred he has a man, he has a man's a man to see about a bat. Oh, he so he tells Afred that as a man he can't change Gotham, but as a simple symbol, he won't be able to be corruptible into Dark Knight 2. Or Dark Knight kinda ruins that, but uh he then learns that people think he is dead because the guy controlling Wayne Enterprises, Earl, declared him dead. It's like, what? Yeah, it's like I think someone related to Bruce Wayne has to do that, right?
SPEAKER_04Or like an authority.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't think it's just some guy who owns a business.
SPEAKER_04He's probably dead.
SPEAKER_00But luckily, he left all his shares in the hands of Alfred, who now has a Rolls-Royce. Nice. Not taking my bloody old voice. I'll I'll let you borrow my car anytime you want. Bruce. Uh I mean, I can't say it enough how much that Michael Cain being Alfred just really ups this movie from like maybe a four-star movie to like a five-star movie. I mean, it's insane. He's just so lovable. I know. Like, as much as like almost nobody else in here, you like it's hard to love everybody. Yeah. In Bruce Wayne. I mean Alfred, just a hundred percent.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah. He's always got your back.
SPEAKER_00So now we meet Dr. Crane, who has been helping Falcone's men by getting them in mental institutes instead of prison.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Some flower dust.
SPEAKER_00And Rachel is fighting this even though it puts her in danger. And um the guy we see in the courtroom that Dr. Crane is saying is insane. That's Zaz. He's uh he's a guy who likes to kill people with knives. And everybody he kills, he leaves a mark on his body, like with a knife. That's cool. So, like everybody that he's killed, he's got a tally mark for. So they can they just know it's him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh not smart criminal.
SPEAKER_04He's calling card. I mean, he's probably a serial killer. Yeah, he is. He kills a lot of people.
Building Batman With Fox And Alfred
SPEAKER_00So while looking at a bat in the mansion, he gets an idea, Bruce does. He goes into the well he fell in as a boy and hang upside down and shit on the floor.
SPEAKER_04Eat bugs. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Got any bananas in here? Going about this the wrong way. Uh, there he sees a giant cave fit for a bat man. Loads of bats swarm around him and he stands able to face his fears. Great.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely fantastic. Put a plane in here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You know what? I bet if I had a car, but that was also a tank, I could probably drive in here with that. I feel like then they completely like abandon all this in like the next movies. Yeah. Because they give them that white room.
SPEAKER_04That's one of the things I really loved about Batman Forever was his all the cool stuff in his mansion.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like you get in the tube that launches you down underground, and it's like you're already changed by the time you get down there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were just like great for kids. Yeah. Like with the way they went with all of his like gear and things like that. So good.
SPEAKER_04And the part where he throws the coins up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Dr. Crane and Falcone are talking. Apparently, whoever Crane works for scares Falcone more than Falcone scares everybody else. Crane wants Rachel dead. Because I guess Crane uh gets uh merchandise drugs from through Falcone.
SPEAKER_04So wait. So Falcone gets the flower drug for him?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like he helps ship them over to Dr. Crane. But Falcone is like scared of whoever is scared of the League of Shadows, even though I don't think he fully knows who they are.
SPEAKER_04It's like in I think it's in Dark Knight when the drug dealer is like, I need repeat customers. Like you think Falcone would have the same kind of business sense. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, all his repeat customers are just the rich and people of the city. So while publicly posing as a reckless playboy, he takes an interest in his family's company, Wayne Enterprises, a technology and defense conglomerate run by the unscrupulous CEO William Earl, who intends to take the company public. Yeah. Bruce says he doesn't want to interfere in the business, but would like a job in applied sciences. Because Earl's like, fuck, he's back, he's gonna take it over. Then he's like, nah, I'll just take a job. Yeah. It's a very smart person. It's like it'd be too much to just be the head of this company and also be Batman. Put me in the least popular section of our enterprise.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. We can take all the naps you want.
SPEAKER_00You don't have to worry about me, so don't worry about me. Bruce then meets Lucius Fox, played by Morgan Freeman. I mean, damn, the casting in this movie is so fucking good. It's like every time they reveal a character, it's like, thank God. Let's put some damn actors in this movie.
SPEAKER_04Let's get some more narrators. Yeah. For real. Um David Attenborough's fucking as Alfred. He should have been Bane.
SPEAKER_02And then we see the Batman, who I will break his back.
SPEAKER_00And as we watch from a distance, uh, Bruce meets Lucius Fox, a high-ranking Wayne Enterprise employee demoted to working in the company's applied science division, where he conducts advanced studies in biochemistry and mechanical engineering. He also knew his father and helped build the monorail. Lucius introduces him to several Wayne's experimental prototype technologies, included an armored car and protective bodysuit. Bruce tells Lucius he wants to borrow the equipment for spelunking. The Wayne batsuit. What I love is like Lucius knows what's going on. He's like, uh, you're doing some weird shit here. So you're obviously not doing anything good. And Alfred's just like, I'm down. You want to become a Batman? I'm good, man.
SPEAKER_04He's like, Yeah, it's all your shit. I don't just don't do any fucking weird shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like all the uh it's just funny. It's just like all the older people are like, I don't care. These fucking young people, man. The things young people do these days, listen to their punk rocket dressing up as bats.
SPEAKER_04It'd be funny if it was like a big like lifted truck.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Just a giant pair of truck nuts on it.
SPEAKER_04Bat nuts.
SPEAKER_00One says bat, other one says nut. So he explores the cave some more. He spray paints his new gear. He orders more gear with the help of Alfred, like literally orders million of them. Yeah, like bat cowl and stuff. And it's like it's like, you see, we can't just order one. We have to order 10,000 of dollars worth.
First Night Out And Dock Takedown
SPEAKER_00Um, we see Jim Gordon and his dirty cop partner, Flas. Jim is still a good cop. Uh, Bruce sneaks up on him and asks him how to take Falcone down. He says, him and Jim are now a team. Essentially, Jim just says, yeah, you just have to get a bunch of evidence on him that is irrefutable, which is impossible to do when he owns a town.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, but I do love it's I don't know. I love that this is their first introduction, him using a stapler to the back of his head. And then I don't know. I God, that's the thing this movie does so well is, I mean, outside of maybe some of the Rachel stuff, um, just how like his team that he's gonna be with for the rest of the movie, how well they immediately mesh the actors and everything, and just how he introduces them to all of them, it's just like, I don't know, it feels like it makes sense.
SPEAKER_04It it really does. Uh it's like they all have this shared sense of responsibility and and um ref restraint as well.
SPEAKER_00It's like Alfred wants to build the family, wants to protect Bruce and build the family name back up. Lucius just wants like the company to be back to the standards that he wants, and Jim Gordon just wants the city to be the great city that it once was.
SPEAKER_04And it's like make golfing great again. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Mugga. Mogu.
SPEAKER_00Mugga. Jesus. Why'd you have to bring that up? Bruce goes to get his cape from Fox. Fox knows what he is doing, but he doesn't want Bruce to tell him. So, you know, when someone comes asking, he says, I don't know what you're talking about, man. Uh, we then meet the tumbler, a badass tank car. Does it come in black? Dude, I mean, what like because how if you want to do a realistic movie, how do you have a Batmobile? And it's like in 2005, you know, you have the war and stuff, and it looks like something that would be in Afghanistan. Yeah, or Iraq or some shit. It's like, here's like a very fancy Hummer, essentially that's a Hummer slash tank. Hell yeah. And it's like, even though it's like sci-fi, it's still like a jet engine on the back. It doesn't feel like it's that far. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean it's not it's not like the long the super long with the wings on top. Yeah. It's like we were gonna use this in the desert. That's sure.
SPEAKER_00It does, it's yeah, you're right. It's something that like police officers would have, you know the tanks that we all have in the world.
SPEAKER_04Oh no, I was talking about like uh it's the classic Batman car. The penis shaped Batmobile. Yeah. It looks like a fucking one of those old V12 like Rolls Royce things.
SPEAKER_00I will say the Batmobile on Tim Burton's Batman. That was pretty cool. I used to have the toy of that. It was so good.
SPEAKER_04It shot the rocket out the front.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Love the very cartoony style of Tim Burton. Um, so Falcone meets with Flas, Jim's partner. He needs him to be at the docks to help out with Crane's shipments. Flash brings up Falcone wanting to take out Rachel. Bruce was listening in from a distance. We see that Bruce's cow is not very tough, so don't land on your head. We see him building more things for his suit, even a bat throwing knife. A battery?
SPEAKER_04It doesn't come back. Why would you call it a battery? Yeah, it's definitely not. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I mean, maybe in the cartoons cartoons and stuff. It probably did. So Flash shows up at the docks for some shipments, and this scene fucking worries. Falcone is there as well. Suddenly, some goons start disappearing. Love it. Like, first guy goes in the cargo thing and Batman's in there, pulls him in. Yep. And then it's like my favorite is when he's just hanging upside down and like slips down and takes the guy and picks him back up. Yeah. Then all the running between the cargo things. Um, and then I will say something that Christopher Nolan sucked at, especially during the Batman films, was hand-to-hand combat and filming it. Okay. He got a little better at Dark Knight Rises. Um, but I mean, like every time he's in a fight, there's like six guys. It's like, who you well, who's hidden who? Which maybe that was like the style he was going to, but like watching the Odyssey, like he's so much better at filming high scenes.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, and that was just something I really realized, you know, was I something I've always realized. But watching this time, I'm like, I was like, what the hell is this? Um, but maybe it was purposely done because he's supposed to kind of just be a shadow.
SPEAKER_04He didn't have the auto counter from the video game. Yeah, from like Assassin's Creed.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, Batman Arkham Silent, yeah. Um, and then I love he gets uh somebody says, Where are you? Here we're over here. Now I'm over here. I just love it. It's such a well done scene. Um, and then uh Batman is surrounded by goons, beats them all up uh in a very walkie-shot scene. Falcone is scared and alone in his car. Who the hell are you? I'm Batman. Batman pulls him out of his car and flies away. Nice coat. Because I forgot to mention earlier when Bruce leaves, he gives his coat to a homeless man. And then at this scene, the homeless man is there and he's like, thanks. Like you couldn't couldn't give that guy a fiver or something.

SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh, just what an absolute perfect scene. Oh. I mean, outside of the one fight. But it's just in terms of showing us what Batman can do, it's just perfect.
SPEAKER_04It's like his first kind of the first time you see him using any type of skills that not not that he's learned. Yeah. Yeah. And he's not like perfect at it yet, but still kicks ass.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's just maybe that's why they maybe did he think they made it look clunky on purpose.
SPEAKER_00But then he's still they still kind of some of the fight scenes, because I think of the when like all the hockey, yeah, hockey men, and then hit like all the people start fighting him and he's fighting him, it's like, what is happening? I have no idea where we're at in this fight. I mean, which it doesn't look terrible or anything, and like if I could see there being purpose to it, but it's just you know, after getting all these great action films afterwards where like John Wick and like the fight scenes are so well shot, it's just like I couldn't do better.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it seemed like um it wasn't choreographed that well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Or maybe they just took they they had to take so many shots, they just took the best one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I felt like like it's like, did y'all just do this like one or two shots and you just picked the best one and you didn't do like any like I mean I guess if well, you know what? Actually, fuck everything I'm saying. Because if you think about it, what's more frustrating, a hard-to-see shot where six men are attacking one man, which is how a fight should go. Or taking turns. Yeah, everybody taking turns, and then so you can get a great cinematic shot. So I guess if you think of it in that way, it's like it's more realistic.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I never minded people attacking one on one at a time. Anyways, really getting down bogged down by this fight. So Rachel getting off the monorail is trailed by some thugs. Luckily, Batman shows up. He tells her Falcone sent people to kill her. He then gives her pictures of prominent men to rattle the cages, then disappears. I love that. Like when she turns around and you just see him, he's just like, he looks so fucking badass. It's so cool. Even in the light. Um, and then this is the first time. Well, the second time you get the it just disappears.
SPEAKER_04He sended her pictures of like him at Disney World wearing the bath seat.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04This is me and Alfred. Yeah. Like a like Mickey Mouse area. It's like Bruce?
SPEAKER_00Oh shit, wrong picture. Just him and Alfred like adults in a bathtub watering Bruce's back.
SPEAKER_02That's a private. That's private. I promise. It's not that weird. We're just having a very nostalgic day.
SPEAKER_00Um, and then uh at the docks, Jim shows up and everybody is handcuffed. Falcone is on the spotlight, makes the bat symbol in the sky. We see Batman on a building perched, waiting over Gotham. Beautiful, man. Uh not as good as the Dark Knight one when he's just like in like Hong Kong and just like panning around him, standing on like a huge building.
SPEAKER_04It's like viciously masturbation. That scene was sick when he comes flying in through the window.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like broke so many laws and it's lovely.
SPEAKER_04Batman doesn't have jurisdiction, doesn't have laws, except for the ones he lives by.
SPEAKER_00So, police sergeant, uh, or no, the current commissioner doesn't like that vigilantes, even though he uh took down the largest crime boss in town. Like Jim's like, uh, he just brought us the guy we've been trying to get for years. And he's like, shut up. And then let him go so we can catch him, I guess. Yeah. And then Rachel's like, hey, we got the evidence. We can do this now, uh, to our boss that will soon meet his demise. Um, the next day, Alfred hands him a pay Bruce a paper. Alfred tells him he's gonna have to come up with excuses on why he has so many bruises, bruises, and that he has to make himself public, otherwise, people will start asking questions. Pretend to have a little fun, and maybe you'll accidentally have some.
SPEAKER_04Dang, Alfred. So wives.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Ugh. Alfred. That's what kills me in Dark Knight rises, like seeing on Matt Bruce's grave crying. It's just like, I was like, whoa, it's a Batman movie about to make me cry. Especially one this wonky and filled with plot holes. So at Wayne Enterprises, we learned that someone stole a very powerful powerful weapon that vaporizes water supplies.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, why do we make this?
SPEAKER_00Shit. Yeah, it's like, damn, maybe we should just have this in one location and not ship it everywhere if we're not gonna use it anytime.
SPEAKER_04It's a dope ass weapon. They're using it to mock away with the ramen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, when it comes to like comic book weapons, this kind of rolls. It does.
SPEAKER_04It's really cool. Like it's not some big fucking laser from space. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00It's just like something kind of realistic that you could see being a thing.
SPEAKER_04I like the I always thought about that with the um the sound weapons they use against Hulk.

SPEAKER_04Yeah. Which I mean, those is like we're using not quite like that, but it's kind of a thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like the what was it, the Havana pro uh Venezuela, I think they there's something, yeah. The con I think it was like the Havana Project or something. Oh, yeah, yeah. Where all like the people in somewhere, wherever it was, I even watched a fucking documentary about it. Makes your brain bleed out. Everybody was like getting like very nauseous and sick around like an embassy or something, and people were like, What happened? And we're like, Soundwave, maybe? Fuck yeah, dude. Um, and they were like, it was crickets. People were like, What? Um, so Bruce goes out and visits with some social ads, they discuss Batman, his girls he brought with him, start swimming in a fountain, essentially. Uh, when someone comes up and says, uh, they're not allowed to do that, he uh buys the hotel. Yeah. And then on his way out, and like they they pull him into it and he starts swimming as well. Then Rachel he runs into Rachel and he is immediately smitten with her. He's like, Rachel, I'm different now.
SPEAKER_04He's kind of embarrassed to be seen with these two models.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's like, shit, I didn't think I'd see her otherwise. I just came by myself, maybe. He tries to tell her he's more than just a Playboy millionaire. She tells him it's not what you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you. Damn, some great, like, with great power comes great responsibility lines, like 15 of them in this movie. Um, so Dr. Crane visits Falcone, threatens Crane, saying he will talk if he doesn't help him. So uh Crane whips out his mask that looks like a scarecrow. He releases a gras uh gas that freaks Falcone out. He just farts.
SPEAKER_04The fart gun from uh Despicable Me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh I love it though. This isn't like the best, like scary scarecrow part, but uh it's a great start.
SPEAKER_04I like the fact that he has that mask on him all the time in that briefcase. He just whips it out. Yeah, scary.
SPEAKER_00And that's funny, we just did Mission Impossible, and I'm like, that mask looks like Scarecrow. That's so funny. Oh, I love Celia Murphy as Scarecrow. Because there's there's something about him not menacing, but like as soon as he puts on the mask, he's just a fucking psychologist. Yeah, it's just like, oh, okay, you're you're you're deeply troubled in the city.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's been experimenting on mental patience. What a great great version of Scarecrow.
SPEAKER_00Um, which after Batman and Robin, the idea was the next Batman movie was gonna be Scarecrow. Nice. Um, and then obviously Batman and Robin sucked, so you're like, we're never doing this again, and then still ended up doing Scarecrow as the next movie. He had some cool outfits, though. Yeah. So Batman visits Gordon's at his house. Batman wants to know why only half the shipment from the docks went to Falcone, wants to know about the other half, so he so uh Gordon tells him to visit Flas. Um, and then he does, and he hangs him up real got high, and then he says, I swear to God, swear to me. Yes, he drops a little bit, almost hits, and then pulls him back up. And then he tells him that there is something hidden in the drugs and bunnies, that is. Rachel's boss opens one of the crates from the docks and it's the water vaporizer. Oh no! Oh crap, it's bad cops, and he gets shot and killed. Yes. There goes Rachel's boss.
SPEAKER_04Um Rachel's too pretty to die.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Katie Holmes, baby. It's funny. If they did Joshua Jackson, then it would be it would literally be a Dawson's Creek reunion. That would have been crazy. That's right. Yeah, that's I forgot she was in that. Yeah, she's like the main girl. Yeah. It's the one he cries about. R.I.P. Vanderbeek. So while doing some of the detective work that Batman is known for doing, a kid looks up to Batman as a hero. Batman, and like Batman's like, here, take this shit. People were all like, that's gonna be Robin, I bet.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I thought that too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Maybe I remember looking up and I'm like, that would be crazy.
SPEAKER_04Fire immediately pokes his eye out.
SPEAKER_00Turns out he uh is gonna be a shitty king. Oh no. So Batman is investigating an apartment where a bunch of bunnies had drugs in them and are
Fear Toxin Spiral And Arkham
SPEAKER_00ripped open. Suddenly, Crane shows up wanting to torch the place to destroy all evidence. Batman attacks but gets sprayed with some gas. I love it though, because like when Crane's in there, camera kind of pans, and you see Batman standing kind of where the bathroom is adjusts a uh shadow, and it's like um, and then uh he beats up one of the goons, and then uh crane sprays them with some gas and then sets Batman on fire.
SPEAKER_04Hell, yeah, I love how their faces look whenever he's tripping out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and he's like so scared and trying to run away, and then like he falls down, and luckily it's raining outside, so he stops catching on fire, and then he it's the first time you see him like hunched over, like Alfred, come get me. He pulls out an inhaler, but yeah, he gets to safety, calls Alfred, who drives him home while crying. All this while having a flashback to like when he was younger. But just the cut to Michael Cain crying, I was like, that hits it's just like he's watching his boy get hurt.
SPEAKER_04Alfred's gotta be old as shit. Yeah, he's like the same age as when he was. I know.
SPEAKER_00I'm assuming maybe he just like so 20 years past, and I guess they're trying to say he's 40. He works out a lot. Yeah. He takes care of his. I mean, if you look at Michael Caney, he's like always kind of had like grayer hair and stuff, even when he was younger, I think. Um, so two days later, break Bruce wakes up. Uh, Alfred had to call Lucius to help him with an antidote, the drug he was sprayed with. It's Bruce's birthday. Happy birthday, Bruce. Rachel brings him a gift and an arrowhead from the beginning of the film. She's going to Arkham because Crane had Falcone put there. Bruce tells her to be careful. He runs and suits up. Earl asks Fox about the water vaporizer, and uh, he's like, I don't have it. And then he's like, he's gonna Firefox. Firefox.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, this is essentially setting up to like uh uh the main God, this next scene the main baddie.
SPEAKER_00The next scene, man. Like whenever he goes to like the Arkham. Ah, we're we're getting to it. So why am I hesitating? At Arkham, Rachel questions Crane. Crane literally shows her where he makes all the drugs, and we see them putting it in the water supply. She runs away and he sprays her. Impressed? Yeah. I know I love it. It's just like, here's all the shit we're doing. It's like, yeah, this means you're in trouble right now, Rachel, because we have all the power over you. You're in a room full of goons. Yes. No one's gonna believe you. And I love she sprays him and she sees a mask, and this is kind of where he looks the scariest. Yeah, it's like until he gets on the horse. Once he gets on the horse, it's like the demon horse. Oh god damn.
SPEAKER_01Um, and then he qu quotes uh uh I've done this once already.
SPEAKER_00I've completely lost my mind on who um cigar guy who's uh prime minister of Europe during World War II.
SPEAKER_04Uh uh damn.
SPEAKER_05Charles Charles Charles Winston Churchill.
SPEAKER_00Churchill. I literally I'm even gonna say the same thing I said last time we did this. I literally did a speech on him. I can't remember his name. Um, so yeah, uh he sprays her with the gas, he's and he's essentially gonna leave her to to die. Uh, but then the Batman shows up. Is that the Bat?
SPEAKER_02It's the Batman.
SPEAKER_00Um Crane has his goons call the cops, uh, because the only thing that can stop Batman is probably the cops. Batman makes quick work of everybody and sprays Crane with his own drugs, making Crane see him as a dope ass fucking monster. And then Crane tells him that he is working with Roz Al Goo.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Bom bum boom.
SPEAKER_00The goo coming out of it, like spewing out of his mouth. God dang, dude.
SPEAKER_04Um, I love that he he just gaslights Katie Holmes on a bunch. Yeah. That'd be funny if that was his weapon. Like, you should smile more.
SPEAKER_02You should use more makeup. It's like once you're done freaking out, could you make me a sandwich? Are you on your period?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Really acting up all of a sudden. See you in a week. Funny guy stuff. So the cops show up. Gordon goes in by himself, because they're all like, the Batman's in there. We don't go in there. He bumps into Batman. He wants Gordon to get Rachel to the alley so he can give her the antidote. Batman calls for backup. Love this shit. Because he touches a little thing on the bottom of his shoe. And then all these bats come in and swarm the building. And they're like, then he presses another button. They're all like spinning in a circle, and then he just dives through. And it's like, Yes, please. The bats got the call. You got it, boss.
SPEAKER_03You got it, boss.
SPEAKER_00We're coming.
SPEAKER_01It's a good day, Jason. Love that. That was absolutely stellar.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, so then he jumps down, exiting the building unseen. He takes Rachel away in his Batmobile while Rachel is tripping balls. He escapes the police by jumping off a parking garage and it fucking rules. Hell yeah. He gets out in the open and after some chasing goes dark. And then like all the cars are going.
SPEAKER_02He's just weaving through them, and then someone's like, hi, there he is.
SPEAKER_00And then he makes it to his cave, and then he quickly gives her the antidote. So there was a meme going around eventually, and it was always like it was popping up on my Instagram. It's like, when you when you and your girl are like feeling horny, and then like she starts falling asleep on the dry phone. Rachel!
SPEAKER_03Rachel! Michael, Rachel, we're almost there. Come on, thank God. You promised.
SPEAKER_04Can't drive fast enough. Just smashing cars all over the place. We have to get home.
SPEAKER_00Oh God, it's okay. So at Crane's lab, Gordon learns that they have been contaminating the water for weeks, but it only works if it enters the lungs. Bum, bum, bum. We're all piecing it together in our heads now. Rachel wakes up and Batman gives her the antidote. He wants to give it to her. He wants her to give it to Gordon so he can uh give it to himself and then mass produce the antidote. Later, Bruce is getting ready for his birthday party. Alfred tells him he is getting lost in the monster he is creating. He tells him he can't make it personal, otherwise, it's vengeance. Bruce wants to send people home. Alfred tells him what he does doesn't just affect his name, but the name of his father. And at this point, I'm like, fuck off, Thomas Wayne. Who gives a shit? He dead, dude. It's been long enough. It was great when it was. Just kidding.
SPEAKER_04If it was my father, this is the best way to get everyone to leave your party. Yeah, it's so saving all your lives, but I'm gonna be a dick about it.
SPEAKER_00So, Bruce talks to Falks and he realizes that they are gonna vaporize all the water with the microwave vaporizer or whatever
Ra’s Reveal And Gotham’s Finale
SPEAKER_00it's called. Spread the drug to everyone. Then Bruce is pulled to the side to be introduced to one Roz. Al Go Roz. Uh bum bump bum. Turns out Liam Neeson is actually Roz Augul. Bruce insults everybody at his party so that they can all leave so Roz doesn't hurt everybody. Everybody leaves but for Roz and his goons. We see Arkham's inmates being let out. We learn that pretty much every civilization that has been fallen was done by the League of Shadows. And they are the ones who build it back up. We see Crane being released. Roz says that Bruce was his greatest student, and he wants him standing next to him. They begin burning down his mansion. Roz tell Roz tells Bruce that he indirectly killed his parents by economically destroying the city to stop people like Thomas Rain from helping it so they can build it through the League of Shadows.
SPEAKER_04Just do it the other way. It'd be a lot easier than burning it all down.
SPEAKER_00Just help Thomas. But they want all the power. Yeah. They're corrupt, they're bad guys. I do love it. I do love the re reveal. It's like everything that's happening to Gotham is all done by Ross economically collapsing the city. Hell yeah. Because at the beginning, there's this old thing, it's like, yes, we're gonna burn down Gotham ourselves. And it's like, why do y'all fucking care about Gotham so much? I mean, I guess it still really doesn't make sense. It's like, was Liam Neeson's character from Gotham? Like, uh is this the only city y'all care about? I guess it's supposed to be like well, I'm not a metropolis because that's literally Superman. I don't know. I guess that's just where a bunch of rich people are, so they're like, we have to take it down. But I'm like, you still have a whole country.
SPEAKER_04They got all the cool architecture.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't know. But I do like it. It's like, yes, we were here the whole time and you didn't know. So they fight Bruce and he gets pinned under a giant plank. Alfred shows up and tries to say, Bruce, what is the point with all those bloody push-ups if you can't lift a bloody log?
SPEAKER_04He's so quimy, I love it.
SPEAKER_00And then Bruce is like, You're right. So they go into the batcave.
SPEAKER_04Take some creatine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They go in the backcave just in time before being engulfed in flames. Rachel wakes up and grabs antidotes. Bruce is sad because he just wanted to save Gotham. Then Alfred asks him, Why do we fall down?
SPEAKER_02So we can pick ourselves back up.
SPEAKER_00Alfred will always believe it. Rachel finds Gordon and gives him the antidote. Like, easily finds Gordon, just like, oh, luckily, I just walked. Into the right street that he's on. The bridges of Gotham are all being raised, so there is no escape. We see the water vaporizer is set off by Raw's because the drug causes the drug to be released from all the sewers, causing everyone to go insane.
SPEAKER_04Causing everyone to rage bait on Facebook.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's like after this, Reddit will never be the same. And then we see Batman suiting up. And then we see Scarecrow on a horse that looks metal as there's nothing to fear but fear itself.
SPEAKER_04Where did you get a horse, man? Yeah. I know. I love that.
SPEAKER_00Well, I guess all the some of the cops in Gotham have ride horses.
SPEAKER_04I suppose.
SPEAKER_00And then uh Batman shows up to Gordon. Batman tells him that they are gonna use the monorail to spread the drugs all over the city. Rachel tases Scarecrow in the face, and he's like and runs off on his horse. But then she is immediately surrounded by a bunch of Arkham's inmates who I can only assume have no good ideas. Luckily, Batman shows up because everybody just finds each other immediately. Um, Gordon gets to ride in Batman's ride, and it's like, I forgot about that. And I love that he's like, I gotta give me one of these. Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_04Rachel asks for Batman's name, and it's funny when he starts to go into like weapon mode, he's like, oh, oh, what?
SPEAKER_00And then at the end, he's so proud of himself who did it. Uh Rachel asks for Batman's name, and then he gives the line back to her, it's not who I am underneath.
SPEAKER_02What I do that defines me.
SPEAKER_00Oh, telling her that it's Bruce. And I'm like, I forgot. She immediately finds out. It's like superhero movies can't help but having one person find out who Bruce, who the character is, like the Spider-Man movie we just did. Everybody knows. It's like it's wild. Um, Batman flies off, scaring everybody underneath him because he's like flying and he's got like it's like a light shining from his mouth, his red eyes.
SPEAKER_04I should have had some fucking metal plate.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's just what a great idea of just making it as comic booky as possible, yeah, but in a as realistic as you can. And it it's just wild because you don't think it'd mesh well, and it it really does. No, but that's what drugs do. Um, he confronts Roz. Well, well, well, you took my advice about theatricality a bit literal.
SPEAKER_04Whoa, turn it down.
SPEAKER_00It's like, damn, dude, you really dressed up as a bat, golly. It's like, if you're a frog, would you have dressed up as a frog and like jump a lot? Like, what's the goal here?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, one of those really poisonous ones.
SPEAKER_00It's like you could you come here one day, you just see me take off my frog suit. It's like you are supposed to notice me. I just start hopping. I close the door behind you with my tongue.
SPEAKER_04Snatch the flies out of the air.
SPEAKER_00So uh runs Roz runs as Batman fights his pawn. Stuck in the street, he is swarmed by the drug people of Gotham, but gets away by attaching himself to the train. Makes it on the train, and Roz and him fight. Batman stabs the train's braking system. While the two fight, Gordon blows up a part of the train rail so that the train will collapse. You've never learned to mind your surroundings. I won't kill you, but I don't want to save you. The train crashes right before the main water line, saving the city. Technically, you did kill. Yeah. Because by not saving someone, you're indirectly killing them.
SPEAKER_04I know.
SPEAKER_00It's kind of a weird hill to die on, but it's definitely I remember it being like, I don't know, like, could we not have found a way or like maybe somehow Batman accidentally gets thrown out of the train before he can even try to save Roz? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You know, because at this point it just feels like he's it's splitting hairs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it's it's definitely I don't know if it's just like maybe he's just like Nolan or Goyer, David S. Goyer, who's one that helps him write. But maybe they're just thinking it's a badass line. So it really was.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But then you see a bad man lying down and he's like, I feel good about myself. Yeah, I did already get it.
SPEAKER_02I did a really good job here.
SPEAKER_00It's fine. I'm gonna I'll sleep fine. I'm gonna go back to my mansion and start nailing a board on something. Um, so we cut to Wayne Enterprises where Bruce has put Fox in charge of the company. Arl learns that Bruce bought the majority of the shares when they went public. Didn't you get the memo?
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah. You're right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Rachel meets with Bruce as hit as his at his burned down mansion. Bruce thanks Rachel for changing him. They kiss. She tells him that Bruce is his mask, and now that the man she knew never came back, and that when the world doesn't need Batman, she may see him again. She says his father would be very proud of him. Bruce says he will rebuild the mansion just as the way it was, but Alfred says maybe it could use some improvements. Yeah, Alfred. In the south southeast corner.
SPEAKER_04That's that shit rules. Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_00Gordon becomes lieutenant and sets up a bat symbol. Most of the inmates from Arkham are still free. Gordon says that every time the cops get better weapons, the criminals get even better weapons. Gordon gives him his next enemy's calling card. A joker. I never said thank you. And you never have to. Fucking love that movie. Fucking rips.
Wrap Up Categories And Nolan Talk
SPEAKER_00And you know, it's just like I was going through and listening to a bunch of podcasts do like Christopher Nolan rankings after I watched The Odyssey. And Batman Begins was pretty low on most people's lists. I mean, well, Nolan has a lot of good movies. So sure. It's like his to me, like the fall following is his first movie, is what he's made in like film school and stuff. It's just it's 70 minutes long and it feels like it's three hours. Wow. Um, but it's very interesting, and you can see all the like the building blocks to what he loves with time and shit. Nice. Um, and to me, like honestly, I'm not a big prestige boy. Right. Like, I thought it was okay. I'm an illusionist boy. Oh, yeah, I like that one too. It's weird. If you're not much of a prestige fan, it's must be because everybody who watched the prestige watched the illusionist first with uh Edward Norton. And because I'm like, even Nallies that way, it's like I prefer the illusionists.
SPEAKER_04I was like, I watched that on the shrooms, and that was blowing my fucking mind.
SPEAKER_00You know what we should do? Maybe we should do uh a little later, maybe after Halloween, do a prestige and illusionist. Yeah, back to back. Yeah, we should do that just to see if we still have the same feelings. I've only seen illusionists.

SPEAKER_04Uh mass, I guess, like scaring people. Water drugs, cool. Sounds drugs are bad, I'm glad. I'm glad.
SPEAKER_00I put that like violence and vengeance can only get you so far that authority in the hands of the cruel and the wicked uh will be corrupt and harmful. What we need is justice and compassion.
SPEAKER_04What we need is a faceless vigilante that doesn't have to follow any laws and can just fix everything. It's literally a story of Two Face. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So maybe it is a pretty it what that part is compelling about Two Face.
SPEAKER_04It's just Well, all the Batman villains are basically like a mirror image of Batman himself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Just except for maybe the Joker. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, even the Joker. Like he loves Well, he's like the opposite.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's he's he's a anarchist, essentially. Yeah. He's an insane anarchist. That's true. Also put like burns all its money. We have to live in an age where the heroes act like heroes and do more than think of themselves. Dot, dot, dot, dot, dot. Can't wait till we get in an age of that again. Yay! Integrity rules. Yeah. That's what I think of the point of the movie. Actually, watching it, I was like, oh, there's actually a lot here that can say a lot about us now. This movie fucking rips. So we're gonna hit our category the good, the bad, the ugly, the fine. The good something we liked, the bad, something we didn't like, the ugly, something that didn't age well, the fine, something that did age well. The good. A god dang perfect origin story.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think so too. And what I really, really loved was the the darkness, like the color scheme of of Gotham. Yeah, it's very brown and dark. Yeah, the brown, smoky, dirty.
SPEAKER_00And it's fun because in the dark night, like it's very clean and vibrant and almost kind of blue and white. And uh then the dark night rises, it's very um, it's very overcast. Um, I also put like Christopher Nolan injected steroids in the veins of a superhero movie. Fuck yeah. Genre. Just the genre in general. Because I mean, after this, it was like everybody's like, get on the phone. We we've learned we've learned some stuff here on how to do things. Um, and then also said Christian Bell. Fantastic. Yeah, he is fantastic. It's great. I mean, he already had like the the bones of being a Playboy rich creep by doing American Psycho, and then you know, did a good job at being an action hero, too.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah. Uh just rename it Doge Enterprises. Doge Enterprises.
SPEAKER_00It's like uh sadly Wayne Enterprises was uh collapsed due to Doge. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's where all the that's why they had the tanks because the budget cuts for the government.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So uh for the bad, I put uh Nolan dish he kind of struggles early in his career with hand-to-hand combat. So it's distracting.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it I mean, it's easy to look past and just for sure. But it's everything else so nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's just like I I shouldn't ever have to squint when looking at a fight scene. And it's it's like an alien covenant, like all the fight scenes, uh like when the robot robots fight. I'm just like, why are we cutting? I can't understand what's happening here. Like it gives me a headache. Um for the ugly, uh some of that in age well, uh, this is the last time Gotham felt like Gotham from DC. Yeah, just is Chicago for the rest of the series.
SPEAKER_04It's it's so much more uh modern modern.

SPEAKER_00It's just like that always something in the that will never really relate very well to c comics to movies, is like the silly names everybody gets. I think Crane's good. Roz Alghul is fun. But then like you see, it's like Raw Liam Nason's name is Roz Alghul.
SPEAKER_04It doesn't make any sense. Yeah, but Joe Chill sounds like a like a guy you might like, or like a like a fat bartender or something.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I I could believe Joe Chill would become a like a bad person because he would be insanely picked on as a kid.

SPEAKER_00Everybody's like, chill out, Joe Chill. Shut up. And it's like, it's so close to like Joe Cool the camel. Yeah. Oh my god. So we'll hit up our next category.
Double Features And Next Recommendation
SPEAKER_00Double features. We recommend a movie to go alongside this movie. I picked Blade Runners. Mainly because I already knew that Blade Runner was an inspiration. And Blade Runner is a great movie.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Uh I picked uh Iron Man, the first one, uh with Robert Downing Jr. And he uh it's just such a fun ass movie, and I I I think it's a pretty cool origin story.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh just being locked in a cave, you know, yeah. Being forced to to build it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's very fun.
SPEAKER_01It's a very different vibe with a very similar origin story.
SPEAKER_00And it's they all kind of just you know, revolve around wars that we're recently having in the 2000s, you know. And it's smart, smart to do. So, Jason, I never told you what we're gonna do next. Because while watching Mission Impossible, I was like, God dang, we have to do Casino Royale. Nice! So I think we should do Casino Royale.
