Welcome And The Franchise Vibe
SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to the We Recommend Podcast, a movie podcast where every week we recommend a movie for you to watch and then come back here and listen to us discuss. I'm Jesse. I'm Jason Cuz. I said forget about a cub. Because this week we recommend Too Fast Too Furious. Let's go, baby. We're continuing the saga. The great American masterpieces that are all the fast and curiouses. So what'd you think about Too Fast Too Curious? First time watching? No, it wasn't. Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_01Um it's ridiculous. I love it. It's it's a movie that you could uh you don't even have to have the dialogue on.
SPEAKER_00You really don't. I mean, it doesn't make any difference whether you're here I I will say this Tyrese is a gym. He is he's so he makes this movie so good, in my opinion. I think Paul Walker, R.I.P. love that guy, love him in all these movies. He can't act. He's really I mean he gets better as the series goes, but man, like these first two, it's like this is rough.
SPEAKER_01He really was kind of taking a back seat.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because Tyrese said, I have all the charisma in comedy chops. And even though I'm a rapper, I'm obviously the best actor in this movie. Because uh that villain is not. So I guess compared to the first one, which one did you like best?
SPEAKER_01First one. Really? Because I really like the uh like in the first one you see uh Paul, and then he's he's like having to he's still a cop, so he's has like I don't know, integrity.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So he's learning to drive.
SPEAKER_01This one's bad boy cop. Yeah, he is kind of a bad boy, which Rush Hour's better, but like he's he's like trying to learn how to drive, and it's like so intense, and like he's feeling the intensity, and he like kind of gets addicted to it, which is kind of awesome.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. I will say, compared to me, compared to the first movie, all the side characters that almost have like you know, no characterization are so good in this one compared to the other one. Like, I'm just thinking the henchmen, yeah. By the end of it, I'm like I fucking love these guys. The two people that have the muscle cars, like I love how ridiculous they are. Versus the first one outside of like the main four characters. I'm like, I don't care. Right, but like by the end of this one, the henchmen are like, You can drive. It's like thanks, bro.
SPEAKER_01And it's like, I'm like, yeah, how about y'all just join the game? It was so funny because he's like sided in a seatbelt. Yeah, because he's like he's like, You can drive really well, man. After just like beating the shit out of each other the entire movie, he's like and then he's like about to kill him. He kind of feels bad that he has to try kill him, yeah, so he doesn't kill him right away, which is like obvious bad guy classic bad guy stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I agree. The first one is better, but I I do I think even though they both have like shitty effects, they're slightly better in this one. And uh I kind of this is uh another one of my questions I had location-wise, Miami or LA for movies. I like Miami. Yeah, more, I think. It seem it seemed like they have better locations than they don't know, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Miami just seems like I don't know, LA. I I know nothing about LA except for what I see on television. Yeah. So it's just full of Kim Kardashians, apparently. Yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I think that's probably Miami too at this point.
SPEAKER_01But like Miami, you have like Cubans, and there's like f I have no I just have no cultural reference for either one.
SPEAKER_00It's weird, like LA you can be kind of on the beach too, but like they refuse to go to the beach areas in that first one. And this one, just having the water jumping a boat into jumping a car into a boat is uh pretty sick. And also, I love these like grappling hooks at this these movies. They get rid of those after this. That's yeah, I don't think there's any more like EMP-esque like grappling hooks, which is insane.
SPEAKER_01No cops have ever used that. Why don't they just put down spike strips? That would have been smart on their fucking mood.
SPEAKER_00It would have been way better.
SPEAKER_01It would have been so over so quick.
SPEAKER_00Just if you knew that this was happening, clear, block off those roads and then put strips all the way from the grass end to the other grass end, and like they can't do anything at that point.
SPEAKER_01Oh, but they would probably have to then the movie would have come up with some kind of special tires. We put sh uh, what do you call them?
SPEAKER_00The shocks or were you lower, low riding? Car guys, whatever those things are where you can have it hop over spikes.
SPEAKER_01Hydraulics. Hydraulics! Wow. That would be sick. Brain fart. There was a cheat in Grand Theft Auto 3 where you could just like press R2, like R3. And just like fly. Yeah, or just hop. I remember that. We would have had that.
unknownGod.
SPEAKER_01Why don't cars have that?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. We just keep making them. I feel like your car should be. It's like no. My car has no extra features at all. Yeah, well, we just keep putting technology in it, but nothing that makes it anything cooler. It's like, hey, don't get on your phone, but here's 15 screens in your car. Yeah. Fun. Love everything. Everything's great. Uh Tyrese or Ven Diesel? About a ball.
SPEAKER_01Ven Diesel. I mean, I don't know. I feel like his character uh lacks luster in the first one, but like I like Tyrese's character, but he's also like super a little racist and like super cheesy.
SPEAKER_00Which that's just a sign of times. You know, his character is less racist in the later movies. Well, that's good. That's everybody's a little less racist and less sexist in their other movies. Yeah. We're all growing together as a if the fast and furious movies can grow and mature, so can we. We can. Um I'm not gonna lie, I kind of like Tyrese better than Vin Diesel. Oh, it's all right. I kind of do. I mean it's you know, after a while, once you watch them a while, especially if you like marathoned them, you'd be like, man, Vin, your shtick is getting old here. Versus Tyrese's because in the later movies when like you got the whole gang there, it's usually Tyrese is like off to the side with another character doing a wacky thing, and it's always like, yay, this is the like the later the last one of the series that I I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so I haven't seen anything past this.
SPEAKER_00Oh god, I'm so I'm so glad I get to welcome all this to you. I have like nine more movies to watch. And I haven't even watched the tenth one, so I hear that one's bad, but I'm like, how can any of these be bad? They're already bad in a good way. Uh American muscle or imports?
SPEAKER_01Uh American Muscle. Yeah. All the time, every time.
SPEAKER_00When that one guy pulls next to Tyrese and he's like, hey, screw you, dude. And he's like, and he's Tyrese like, God damn. Just like, oh, it just nothing sounds better than that. It's great. Um, yeah. So uh again.
SPEAKER_01Then like the first one when Vin Diesel pulls out, like he comes jumping the fucking railroad tracks in the super B.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like, fuck yeah. I think it was a Chevelle or something. Yeah. That thing is fucking credible. It's a fucking monster, bro.
SPEAKER_00Every time. I love it. Um, did you enjoy the villain? No, he's forgetful.
SPEAKER_01He straight up sits a terrible villain. He's just like low-level villain.
SPEAKER_00It is the most just like, here's a written villain. There's nothing normal or you know, new or inventing inventive of this guy at all. He's just a guy who likes money.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there. He's just there.
SPEAKER_00Um, and also like that uh, you know, in this like a month span, we did a movie where uh the same guy plays a cop and he's crooked, but kind of this one at least he's being forced to be crooked. I'm like in Batman McGinn's. Yeah. No, that guy's good. I can't I I love his whole look. I'm like, this guy could be a dirty cop, a porn producer. Yes. Like his look could go, or it could just be like, if you put him in like a normal t-shirt, he could just be a dad. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01He just got that when you apply to jobs, is he just like, I'm I look like scum?
SPEAKER_00I look like I will be your plumber, or the like a dirty henchman.
SPEAKER_01Just something dirty. Yeah. I'm a dirty boy.
SPEAKER_00It's like pull me in a sewer. What a rats. He would love that. So this movie had two treatments, like as in two
Cast Charisma And Miami Setting
SPEAKER_00different scripts. There was uh, so after the success of the first one, a sequel was Green Light, and almost almost immediately, however, the studio was unsure about Vin Diesel's return. Instead of waiting to find out if he would come back for the sequel, Universal pulled the trigger and commissioned two different scripts. One uh had the idea for the plot if Vin Diesel did return, and the other was a treatment for the movie that exists today without Diesel. Because John uh Vin Diesel was like, hey, I'm doing Chronicles of Riddick instead.
SPEAKER_01Chronicles of Riddick is. I like those first two.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I like Pitch Black, I think was like Black was nuts. That was a classic. That in Chronicles of Riddick, sci-fi was like, we're not watching, we're not putting anything else on except for Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. I don't care what else is out there. It's like, guys, there's other sci-fi movements. Um and like Vin Diesel didn't want to return for a very specific reason. So he likes driving slow. No, it's gonna actually be pretty wild. Um, wait, is this the right fact that I was thinking of?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like me. Uh like my wife gets on to me for driving slow. But I just like following the rules and being safe.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I feel it.
SPEAKER_00It's not that crazy, right? It seems like, especially since there's constantly car wrecks every single day in the places that we live. It's like, because nobody here can drive. So in a 2015 article with Variety, Vin Diesel revealed that he turned down a $25 million offer from Universal Studios to return for this film. Diesel uh reasoned that the premise of the film did not work, stating Universal Studios didn't take a Francis Ford Coppola approach to it. The guy that you know did the Godfather. They approached it like they did sequels in the 80s and 90s when they would drum up a new story unrelated the most uh for the most part and slap the same name on it. So essentially he was just saying he wanted like a continuation of the story that like, oh, it's not just like a new movie almost every single time. It's like a continuation of the story that they just left, like in Godfather Part 2, which is kind of explores like after Godfather 2 and some of the prequel stuff. I guess this I think it was one of the things.
SPEAKER_01I get what I'm I feel you, then like he the it's supposed to be about like criminal enterprise, um in a way, but with cars. But I I feel maybe he was just upset that we switched from robbing he would have had to rob like DVD players instead of VHS. Yeah, and he's like, I'm sorry, I just I just can't make the switch.
SPEAKER_00I just don't see DVDs going anywhere. Next thing you're gonna tell me is they're gonna be a better quality of DVD. Uh it's just like, you know, it's just wild that for this franchise, he's like, it should be more like Francis For Gobla type movies. It should be more like Godfather. I mean, and the movies do later eventually kind of get there. Where it's just like continuations of you have a family, and except it's like, you know, good guys instead of gangsters. Yeah. Uh Paul Walker did all his own stunts. Um shifting gears like crazy. Oh Paul Walker carried the series for the longest time and was up there side by side with Diesel. Just as Diesel had a hand in producing the movies, Walker gave everything he had to do the series, and that meant doing all his own stunts. Um, it was hardly work for him as Walker was such a gearhead, but from the f first street race to the impound lot, the late great actor did all his own stunts in the movie. I'm just like, did he do the car job? There's no way he did that card job. Um so John Singleton is the director of this. He did um Boys in the Hood, Baby Boy, movies like that. Nice. Um, Poetic Justice. Um there's been uh less focus on the street racing in the later movies, and there seems to be uh one street race shoehorned into each film just as to appease the fans from the original movie. Singleton wanted to direct Too Fast Too Furious because he was one of those fans. The director has praised the original movie to no end, and he's get even on record as saying that he was jealous that he didn't think of it first, as he had grown up watching street races in South LA. Uh the girl in the film, she uh Suki? Yeah, she did not um she didn't know how to drive. So it's just like they I guess they can't um you know figure out it's like they can't find an actress that can drive. I don't know. In the first movie, they also couldn't drive. So it's like there are women that can drive in the world.
SPEAKER_01No, I just I love like her consortium of of girls. Like, she just had this girl club. Yeah, girl car club.
SPEAKER_00Girl car club. It's like I love when she's like she like shows like her little riot a drawing of the thing, and he's like, Whoa, that's cool. That's artful, that's very artistic. She's like, Thanks. And I'm like, she's gonna put flames on the side of cars. It's like all the same things. Uh the last thing I have is like 50 Cent was considered for the role of Roman. Okay. That would have been all right. I think I think Tyrese is just too fun. It's like, I don't know. After going through the whole series, like, I don't know. They got like the two right rappers to be in these movies with Ludacris and which they wanted uh Jaw Rule to come back because he was in the first one, but he is like, I want more money, and they're like, No, we'll go to another like on the newer rapper, and then they got ludicrous. Yeah, and then like while on screen they are also playing his songs, and I'm like, it's bold. Jaw Rule's songs? No, ludicrous. Oh, he's literally like talking in the movie while his song is playing in the movie. I'm like, what is going on? I don't know. It's something that's ludicrous. It's something that would never happen today, and I love it. It's just like this is great. So we're
Franchise Trivia And Wild Production Facts
SPEAKER_00gonna hop into the plot of the film. But beforehand, why don't you uh at the end, we always do like what's the point of the movie? And this is like you can tell us what you think the plot of the movie is by going in the link in the description and clicking on it and just telling us what you like and disliked about the movie, or just like what is the point of the movie? I'm so scatterbrained right now. Um, and if you can't click the link at the top, you can go to the bottom where we have an email, we recommend mailbag at gmail.com, or if you're on YouTube, just use a YouTube comment like our dog Mark with a C. So uh he said that um I asked him after he replied to one of our comments, like, what's your favorite Mission Impossible film? Obviously, for when we did Mission Impossible, he said it's gotta be the one with Philip Seymour Hoffman. His villain took out some of the campiness he's talking about. Mission Impossible 3. Nice, the JJ one. Yeah. And it's the one with the best villain in the home series because it's Philip Seymour Hoffman. And we will do that maybe probably next year. Well, I guess we gotta do Mission Impossible 2. Maybe we will.
SPEAKER_01Maybe we won't give it like an honorable mention. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like it's there's still fun parts. I mean, it's got being rhymed in it, it's not all bad. All right, Jason skin to the plot of Too Fast. Too furious. You see, you know it's a sequel because it has two in it twice. I will say, it is probably the most creative out of all the name changes, and probably one of my favorite titles for these because it makes it pretty easy to know where it stands in the filmography. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Versus in the next is that is that is true.
SPEAKER_00It's insane. Love it. And I love that like last week I went through and was like, here's the titles, I think, of all these. Got some of them wrong. I think it was mainly the Fast and the Furious, and Fast and the Furious, I got them confused. It's crazy. I mean, you just think like companies and studios with like this much money could do better.
SPEAKER_01They could, but they couldn't waste the profit.
SPEAKER_00It's like, I mean, spend a few days just thinking about a title. I mean, somebody's gonna have a few days to that they're not doing much, that they could just think about a title film. All right, so too fast, too furious, 2003. After allowing fugitive Dominic Treetto to evade arrest in the first film, former LAPD officer Brian O'Connor finds himself on the run from LABD and leaves Los Angeles, California to start a new life. So he is guessed during this film and the other film, he's just been going around doing races, you know, making money, uh building up his rep. Street cred. And then he eventually comes of Miami, Florida. There he makes a new friend with uh uh Taj and X Street Racer organizer who leads the top racing garage and the man to know Miami. Um and then, yeah, so the movie starts with Suki, Slapjack, and Orange Julius, great names, all of them great, on the street race strip with Taj, who hears that the fourth racer won't be joining them. They try to convince Taj to race with him, but he greet it, but he agrees with them to get the driver on his own. He calls Brian to race, and Brian's reputation is seen easily as he wins the crowd. Comes in and raises the stakes. Well, if it's like, how about we just put even more money? Everybody's like, oh, that's not what we agreed to race. We don't have any more money. And then he's like, Well, I guess you could leave, and it's like, this ain't fucking fair. No, it's not like I ain't raising the stakes. Say poker. You don't get to show up late and then raise the stakes.
SPEAKER_01But this this whole scene is absolutely nuts. Yeah. Yeah, people break dancing, break dancing, doing like crip walks. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like people just like, listen to how loud mine is. No, mine's louder. And then the girls the best stereo's plugging your ears, like, Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_01Oh, these fucking dude. I hate this. Why am I here?
SPEAKER_00And I'm sure like like the first movie, this is probably all actual like street racers and things like that with modded cars. Um though I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Lots of product placement.
SPEAKER_00I guess because I grew up around a bunch of people with like systems in their cars, I do kind of have a nostalgia for systems. You know they're crazy.
SPEAKER_01Like if you've never like, I was never really around them, and then you get into somebody's car. Yeah, and you it's wild, and then they play it, and it just shocks the shit out of you. It's like how could anything be this loud?
SPEAKER_00I feel like for a while there, every time I would get into somebody's car, every car sounded like I know some of them's really bad. Yeah. It's just like your car is too janky to have this. It's like you drill like tighten up some of these bolts in your car before we start scared we might fall apart.
SPEAKER_01That's that's one of the biggest problems I have with these movies, is it gave people permission to just be loud and really dumb.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I know, because when I drive, it's like when I watch a movie like this, I'm like, hell yeah. When I'm just like driving every day on the street and a car's like I'm like, idiot. Knowing damn well that if I was in that car, I'd be like, I'm so fucking cool.
SPEAKER_01So I have something to say about this is I thought was really funny. So my my wife is standing outside of um my daughter's dance studio waiting for her to get out. His car drives by, and it's like he knows what he's doing. He stops in front of all these moms that are the same age group, and he plays a song from like their a their when they're their time. Yeah. You know what I mean? And he play he just like looks at him and smiles, and he points at him, and and like actually it's like I had to stop myself from dropping it low. You know what I mean? Like he fucking knew what it she should have just done it.
SPEAKER_00And all the other girls start doing it too, and he's like, damn, this officially worked for the first time. Man, that's wild. That's bold, it's very bold. So anyway. As the race start, no, it's okay. It was great. As the race start, Brian finds himself behind Slapjack and Suki behind Julius. Brian tries to overtake him a few times, but he always manages to keep the position. Brian passes him and jumps, and jumps over the bridge set up by Jimmy, but Slapjack loses control and collides into commercial sign. Pepsi, brought to you by Pepsi. Meanwhile, Suki overtakes Julius at the last corner and manages to jump over, accidentally rupturing her front bumper with Julia. When while Julius stops, Brian wins earnings of 15,000 for the race. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_01You just see the bridge and you're like, nope. No. Well, that's how you gotta win. They all wanna win.
SPEAKER_00And only Brian can jump right.
SPEAKER_01You'll just destroy your car. Yeah. So you had and the $15,000 you win probably won't make up for the loss that you get from your car. Yeah, because that skyline. I love a skyline.
SPEAKER_00It's all imported machinery. Yeah, I mean, that's why everything's so expensive. That's why Brian's like, all right, we gonna jump a bridge. We gotta up the stakes. I need to completely fix my car.
SPEAKER_01Well, he didn't know that they were gonna jump a bridge.
SPEAKER_00I'd be so pissed to be like, this is bullshit. I know. No one's even close enough to see us jump the bridge. Nobody's watching there. It's just they're just doing it to do it. It's not like anybody can actually see the cool stunt. I absolutely love this race. I mean, it's almost ruined by CGI, but it's like better than the first one at least. A little bit more.
SPEAKER_01One of the things I love about the Fast and Furious movies is that whenever they hit the nitro button, it's always like warp speed. Yeah. It's hyper space. Hyperspeed. Yeah, come on. That's how cool. All it's doing is cooling the engine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So you can go a little bit faster. I know. It's because you just see it go from like 120 to like 160. 140 to 160, and it's just like no cars have ever gone this fast. Ludic speed. Maybe that's why ludicrous is a good thing. I'm not gonna lie, though, I really want to see a street race. I know. It looks intense and cool. Skrill is indie car stuff. Yeah. Let's get Vin out there. But you know, the jumping over the other car, like that's sick. Yeah, it's all good. Um, so suddenly, Miami PD arrives on the scene after Brian tries chatting up Eva Mendes. He is taken into custody but given a deal by his former boss, FBI agent Billkins. We gotta talk about Bilkins in this movie. This guy is like out the door. He is ready for retirement. He doesn't even give a shit. He's just there for the ride, having a good ass time in all his button-ups. And I love his character. When him, uh Brian and Rome start fighting, he's like, Well, I'm just gonna go sit down. Just like constantly got a shit-eating grin on his face the whole movie. And I'm like, I love this character. Make just the Bilkins story.
SPEAKER_01The Bilkins saga.
SPEAKER_00I just love it. It's it seems like he doesn't, it's like you're FBI guy, you should care more about what's going on around here. Um, and then you also got U.S. Customs agent Markham, who uh this classic bad police guy, or just like classic, I don't trust the guys that we hire to do this job. And it's like there's gotta be some sort of trust here. Just don't hire them if you don't trust them. Yeah. Um, so they're gonna go undercover and bring down Argentinian drug lord Carter Varone in exchange for the erasure of his criminal record, agent Monica Funtes, Eva Mendes, who has been undercover with Varone for a year, agrees to assist bringing Brian into the organization. Brian agrees, but only if he's given permission to choose his own partner. It's like, man, y'all have been letting her her have to sleep with this guy for a year.
SPEAKER_01Oh, she's like, how do when you get so far undercover that you're undercover?
SPEAKER_00I just feel like we shouldn't be having to ask people to have sex with someone for a year, you know? He doesn't seem like he'd be a very passionate lover, you know.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. We don't know. I wish I could have seen that.
SPEAKER_00Maybe she didn't like it passionate. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01He could have been like the best lover, and that's why she went away. Well, went along with it.
SPEAKER_00Went along with it, yep. Um Ava Mendez, married Orion Gosling. What a cute couple. So Brian and Billkins travel to Barstow, California to meet up with Roman Pierce, a former good friend of Brian, who had served three years for car theft and his and is on house arrest, living in a trailer on a local track racing in destruction derby events. That's hilarious. I love it. And they gotta get hit um Rome because Brian's like, hey, your guy that's supposed to know cars uh doesn't know anything about cars. And it's like, why have they not been learning? They've had a girl undercover for a year.
SPEAKER_02They couldn't have a guy learn about cars in a year.
SPEAKER_00Brian learned how to race after three tries. It's wild.
SPEAKER_01Supremely underfunded, maybe. I don't know. I guess so. Not smart. That's like they have a lot of money to throw around. Yeah. If they can get Ava Mendas.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Also, demish demolition derbies. Which I can't know why I called it destruction derby. Demolition derbies? Uh never been to one, really want to go to one.
SPEAKER_01They're pretty fun, but they they're kind of like not as dramatic as you'd think they'd be.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it seemed like it would probably be something better filmed than actually because I'm like, how fast are they really driving?
SPEAKER_01They really can't get that fast because they're in a small space. And on dirt roads, usually. Yeah, it's like a not even roads, just like they're in a dirt pit.
SPEAKER_00Like just crashing into each other 10 miles an hour. Yeah. And I feel like by like after two to three minutes, all the cars are so beat up, it's like they can barely move. I'd rather watch like the robot fights, you know, those are more fun.
SPEAKER_01And it's basically the same idea.
SPEAKER_00They still make that.
SPEAKER_01Put some flippers on cars, make them like flip other cars up in the air. Yeah. Or like have spikes that drive into the cars.
SPEAKER_00It was like a a few years ago, like I saw that they had like new ones, and I was like, ooh, I'm gonna watch these. And I was like, this is cool. And then after like three of them, I was like, you know, they really just don't not violent enough.
SPEAKER_01I know, and that's that and that's the feeling you get when you go to these uh demolition tables.
SPEAKER_00Except it's just all slower. Sometimes they flip over.
SPEAKER_01They got cool gadgets attached to it.
SPEAKER_00It's really just the announcers that give me.
SPEAKER_01That's that yeah, you need a good announcer.
SPEAKER_00A tiny metal robot goes, gets flipped. It's like, guys, a room that flipped over here.
SPEAKER_01Put a human inside of that robot. That's what I want to see.
SPEAKER_00And that's called um Pacific Room. Yeah. Ooh, we should do that. Hell yeah. Um, so after the demolition derby, uh Rome and Brian talk to each other, and by talk, I mean Rome punches the shit out of them. Um, and they have a little fight. It's a fun shot. It's a shot so where if you were watching a scuffle between two people and not actually trying to kill each other, it just kind of looks goofy and like they're rolling around. And I'm like, this is a and then Billkins is kind of watching, reading a newspaper and smiling. I'm like, this is a good scene. It's just kind of silly. I don't know. I liked it.
SPEAKER_01No, it really is. Um it's like two, like getting drunk with your best friend and then wrestling.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like y'all got two or three good hits on each other, and now y'all are just like, all right, we've lost we've gotten our anger out, and now we're just kind of rolling on the ground until we get exhausted. It's like, well, we kiss, I don't know. Maybe. So Brian reconciles with Rome after fighting. Um, and then like Billkin's like, hey, we'll scrub your crimes cleaning and get that ankle monitor off.
Plot Kickoff And Roman Returns
SPEAKER_00And Rome's like, okay, let's go to Miami. So they return to Miami where they are uh briefed on their mission, which is to go undercover as a street racers and participate in a money laundering run for Carter Rone, a ruthless Argentinian drug lord. Already said that. Don't know why I said put that in my notes twice. So they are assisted by Monica uh Funtes. Um for their mission, Brian O'Rome are issued two modified cars, a purple Mishabishi Eclipse. Love eclipses, baby. Always wanted one when I was younger. Because of these movies, right? Yeah, and uh um Need for Speed Underground. That was my favorite car. Oh, that was a good game. That was my favorite car in that um game. Even though the eclipse was like the best car, which is what's in is what Brian drived at the beginning.
SPEAKER_01But uh I thought he was driving a um Sky uh Yeah, Nissan Skyline.
SPEAKER_00What did I say? I said Eclipse? I meant Skyline. Yeah, that's like the that was like the best one in the game. But if you chose one of the cars at the beginning, which was like there's only like three, and I think one's the Miotta. Like Pokemon. And if you play with that one through the whole game, it's it becomes the most powerful car in the game. And it's cool. Um love that game. If you're out there, please remake that game.
SPEAKER_01I played that on the GameCube.
SPEAKER_00Really? It was on the GameCube. I had on PS2. Um and then a Mishibishi Lancer Evolution is Brian's car. So while driving to the mission, Monica rides with Brian, who does his staring bit to woo her. I love it.
SPEAKER_01I was so afraid if I was her.
SPEAKER_00Like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm just staring at him, I'm like, please look.
SPEAKER_00Please just then Rome's like, he's doing that staring thing, isn't he? He got that from me.
SPEAKER_01Get me out of this car. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, so they arrive at Carter's mansion where other drivers are there. Uh Goodwin Fonzie. What that looks like, Fonsey. Rome's got so many good lines in this. Um, so the duo are gonna participate in an audition race across Miami to recover a package inside an impounded Ferrari and deliver it to Vivone Varone, not knowing that their cars are equipped with tracking devices that give Markham's squad their locations on their drive. One car gets crushed by a semi. That was just kind of awesome. I was like, whoa, forgot that someone just that guy just straight up died during this mission. Can you imagine being that trucker? It's like, I just fucking killed two.
SPEAKER_01I know and he didn't stop.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. He's like, I ain't got to deliveries. I ain't got time. America needs me. I don't care who I kill. Um, so yeah, the one guy scratched by a semi, Rome and Brian show off by flicking each other off, and then you got the classic driving backwards scene where Brian turns and drives somehow 100 miles per hour backwards and then flicks them off. I know. Uh preposterous, but love it. And then after a wild chase with other audition drivers on the Miami highways, and upon arriving at the site, the Ferrari and acquiring the pack package after Rome unnecessarily busts the windows by punching it. Just like he gets out of the car all badass, immediately takes up the shirt, wraps around his hand, punches it. Brian just opens the door.
SPEAKER_01Then he's like, Don't hate cars.
SPEAKER_00And then they are cornered by Markham, who just immediately thought that they were bailing, and it's like Yeah, he doesn't know what's going on. I y'all just didn't have like an undercover car just following them in any way. What are we doing here? It wasn't leaving the state. It's just man, did Monica not, was she not ever able to be like, hey, they're heading here? She should have known the mission beforehand.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah. I'm getting pissed. I know.
SPEAKER_00Love this movie. Perfect movie, masterpiece. No matter how much I complained about it.
SPEAKER_01All the the FBI people, they're always driving like sedan, like really shitty sedan. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which I mean, like they're all just goofballs. And I well, it's like because one of like the best police cars ever were like the Ford uh Crown Vic.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like those I had that was like my first car, and I was like, man, that thing can go so fast so quickly. But also everybody thought there was a grandma in it. Oh, yeah. That's what my grandma drove. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, why do these grandmas got these police cars off too? They're fucking rolling, yeah.
SPEAKER_01They love that shit.
SPEAKER_00Um so yeah, they're they're pinned in by the FBI. Roman opens fire at Marco and before the duo, make their escape and head for Rowan's mansion. Um it's like, yeah, man, you just shot at some cops, but it works because it's gonna get them off. People are not gonna be like, hey, they're with the cops. So um even though it's also stupid because now you just like essentially just told the bad guy, hey, cops are after us. Yeah. It's like, how did they know?
SPEAKER_01Markham man, he just really sucks at his jump. And it's his and and also like it's his fucking junkyard or whatever. Yeah. Or like the impound lot.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's just a test. It's the villain's impound lot, and he didn't know that there were FBI agents stationed there. Like some nobody called him.
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, they just kind of drove in. They didn't know that they were there yet.
SPEAKER_01Well, they couldn't get in because they were through the gate, but like they were already there. How did they know? Because he didn't know where they were going. How did he know they were going to the impound lot?
SPEAKER_00I don't know, Jason.
SPEAKER_01Well, they got they GPS, they GPS' their car. I know, but he was there. He would have had to be there before.
SPEAKER_00A helicopter?
SPEAKER_01I c I don't. Well, maybe I need to stop trying to make sense of things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because Jason, I didn't know if I don't know if you know this, but car goes room. Voiced by Tim Curry. R I P. Um, so they deliver the package of cigars. Uh, and it's just like, it's fucking cigars. A cigar. Just one cigar. Yeah, and he uh he really sucks on it. Real, really loves the cigar.
SPEAKER_01Those are good. The cigar, like a big cigar, those are good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh I don't get the I really don't get the fascination with cigars. Tried cigars? Tried like not like expensive, expensive cigars, but expensive to what amount of money I make. And I was just like, tastes like cigars. They say no switch or sweet. Yeah. So yeah, Rome tells Carter they are hungry. Rome notices I pockets are empty. I'm hungry. Uh Rome notices Brian checking out Monica. Rome is suspect of Monica. Carter tells them they are gonna have to deliver uh essentially a duffel bags full of money for him. He invites them to a nightclub later. Rome steals his cigar cutter. Brian walks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, what the fuck, Tyrone? Tyrese, Tyrone. Tyrese is his real name. Roman is Roman name in the movie. Hey, Roman. What the fuck? That was a fucking bitch move.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. He thought he had plenty.
SPEAKER_01He probably does. This is such a bitch move. No, it's cool. No, it's not. Slit.
SPEAKER_00You can just pickpocket people, I guess. So stupid. He got caught immediately. I know. It's like, well, it's also the only reason it's in the movie is so that we can be like, oh, the bad guy's really good at being a bad guy and noticing when people are trying to take things for a so it makes more sense at the end where he's like, I knew it was mono good. It's like it was completely unnecessary. It would have been a better bit if like once they walked away, it's like he's not that good of a villain. If he just like didn't get caught.
SPEAKER_01It's like it's like having to like your mom catches you stealing a candy bar and you have to go tell the teller that you're sorry.
SPEAKER_00Well, they also have to make it to where it's like Rome is not as good as Brian at being an adult? Well, he's supposed to he's supposed to be on a lower level than our main hero Brian for the movie. So that's essentially so they can't have Brian do things like this, so they gotta have like the friend with a because essentially Brian is doing the Vin Diesel bit here now. Yeah, we're and Tyrese is doing the Brian bit where Brian was more of comedic and like, oh, he's so unit's like we don't know what he's gonna do. He's so like, you know, he's kind of a wild guy, versus Vin Diesel's like, I have my set morals and how I act. That's what Brian is in this one.
SPEAKER_01Brian just oh yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00But if you just had Brian in this one, it would be Brian's. Yeah. To be his partner. But it's all about friendship, Jason. And we'll get to the point later, but it might be what cures all. Okay. Um Brian wants Rome to calm down. Rome wants Brian to not get in trouble because of female.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, how funny was it when he was like, Are you checking her out? It's like, no, I check. Hey, they can she can hear you. Yeah, it's like she's right there. Right in front of you. And who cares? She's hot.
SPEAKER_00And hey, Rome. Yeah, it's even Mendes. He's checking her out. Like. He definitely was checking her out.
SPEAKER_01He had to have been. It's okay. Yeah. We have eyes, we're humans.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So after being hired by Verone as his drivers, the duo then head to Taj's garage where Rome falls in love with Miami. Mainly. The butts in Miami. The butts.
SPEAKER_01The butts.
SPEAKER_00Where they learn about the tracking devices in the cars and that they are also being followed by Ron's henchmen, Enrique and Roberto. After Roman creates a diversion to escape, they arrive at uh oh, by diversion it means um catching his third windshield on fire.
SPEAKER_01That was kind of fun.
SPEAKER_00That's an insane. I'm like, wow, you couldn't have made that fire any closer to the engine unless you put the fire on the engine. Insane. Um, but yeah, and then so essentially they get out of there, they arrive at a customs FBI hideout where Roman confronts Markham over the ladder's interference with the mission nearly blowing their cover. And it's like, you couldn't give us two hours?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00You got the whole FBI. You could probably find us in our bright ass fancy cars. So and you also GPS us. Why not just give us some time? Um, so yeah, after the situation has cooled down, Brian tells Billkins and Markham that Varone plans to smuggle the drug money into his private jet and fly off, but also specs something wrong with Monica's role in the mission. Well, Rome does. Um They also never told him that it was gonna be money. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's just like, you just get the thing.
SPEAKER_00Well, they said he was like gonna be like a drug thing.
SPEAKER_01Well, sure, but like they never said it, he the villain never said that it was gonna be money. He just like the package bringing it to me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It could have been a person. Like I thought that's what I thought it was originally because I hadn't seen this in forever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um that's yeah, you're right. He does say package. They're probably just like they're just like, it's definitely gonna probably just be money or drugs. So it's either one. Either way, it's gonna end up being illegal.
Undercover Job And Audition Chaos
SPEAKER_00Um also I love that after Rome and Markham fights, Rome just eats Markham's burrito. Yeah, but he eats that he if you watch it because of the continuity of the film, it's not uh super great. He eats that burrito like three times.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00So for sure, I re-say three burritos in this movie.
SPEAKER_01It was before Chipotle got all fucking crazy.
SPEAKER_00It was because he kept taking the biggest everything he eats, he takes the biggest bites and is still able to talk clearly.
SPEAKER_01You live fast, you drive fast, you eat fast.
SPEAKER_00It's the most impressive thing. But it's like every time it kept cutting to him, taking a bite of that burrito, I'm like, that burrito has been eaten three times. It's like he's gotta be sick to his stomach with burritos right now.
SPEAKER_01He's got a high protein diet. Look at his abs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, so the duo talks that Markham will probably blow their cover um and that they need some exit strategies. They agreed they need at least two more cars. Um, and this is where we get the thing where it's like, uh, we get the so forget about a cool. It's like, okay, we get it. Brian is cool. He's acting, he's trying to just act like a surfer. Like, I mean, because that's what he acts like usually in movies. He just kind of seems like this California surfer type. It's like, just let him be like a surfer type, but with cars. Instead of like, you know, kind of doing this. Like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01So you wanted the you wanted the the point blank or the um how was it? Point break. Point break. You wanted the point break.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that's because that's exactly what they did in the first one. They made so Brian makes uh a deal with Taj and he issues a challenge to racers. Um, I think his name's Corpy and Darden, the two guys from the audition that look like uh 1950s and 60s bad guys. Uh two other drivers from the audition race for pink slips in a tag team relay race. Darden drives the 1970 Dodge Challenger. Um, and Corpy drives this 69 Chevrolet. Despite so yeah, and it starts, it's gonna be Rome versus another guy. They gotta drive down this road, take a curve, and come back. And after both people have done it, they the other team goes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, so uh Rome starts, and he immediately uh some guy knocks a sign in his way, and then he gets really far behind. Um so and then Brian manages to edge out Corpy, though, and then they win the race, earning their cars. Yeah, then muscle car. I'm surprised they didn't put up more of a fight. Yeah. Uh uh Well, they're outnumbered. Losing their cars. Yeah, too many people there. Even though like both those people look like they could take out two of those people. Yeah, they're they looked way stronger. Yeah. Just get in your car and drive faster. The other cars already use all their NOS, so you could probably outrun them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, why didn't they have warp speed? Yeah. Like, can you not have those in muscle cars?
SPEAKER_00You have to, I assume.
SPEAKER_01Like you'd think.
SPEAKER_00They'd have something at that point. Uh, you know what? Just America muscle. We don't need to cheat to win. Jason got a lot of.
SPEAKER_01Not Mercedes. Mitsubishi's.
SPEAKER_00Get my Prius out there. I'll show him what's what. You wouldn't hear me comment.
SPEAKER_01Because it's so silent. It doesn't use gas.
SPEAKER_00As long as I go under 30 miles per hour. As long as I hit uh don't hit a certain RPM, you'll never hear me again. I want to see this race, but with cars that what yeah, it's just um ooh, that would be fun. Hybrid car racing.
SPEAKER_01Hybrid car racing.
SPEAKER_00But the thing is, you can't let the gas turn on. So it's like the whole race has to be only battery. And if you get it a certain RPM and your car turns on, you're Eliminate it. They'd be like, uh, RC cars. I'm very good at keeping that where it doesn't kick on the engine. Very good at it. Anytime I'm in the city, I'm like, this thing ain't using an ounce of gas, baby. That's incredible. Um, so that night, Brian Rome Roman meet up with Varone at his nightclub, where Brian and Monica get cozy, much to Varone's dismay. Plus you snake.
SPEAKER_03He's allergic as the dogs. Get some of your nose, bud.
SPEAKER_00That's why you shouldn't get your hair everywhere. Um, where Brian and Monica get cozy to much to Varone's dismay. Um, and then like we see that there's a guy from Batman Begins. He's uh a detective, his name's Whitworth. Uh Varone's just like decides, hey, hey, I'm gonna torture you so I can get a 15-minute window. Hey, if you're torturing him, ask for a 30-minute window.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Ask for an hour. He could have gotten more. Yeah. I love the whole rat trick.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. He essentially puts a rat under a bucket and makes the bucket hot. And I'm like, you could honestly just put the bucket on the guy's stomach and then make the bucket hot, and then he'd probably that's also torture.
SPEAKER_01Just a hot bucket.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's like that would burn his skin. That would be very painful.
SPEAKER_01The rat trying to claw itself out though digging into your intestines. Very intense.
SPEAKER_00Made me feel bad for the rat. I know it does. Poor rat. Like poor rat. Scared ass rat. Where the fuck they find that giant ass rat? Miami's nightclubs has got rats in them.
SPEAKER_01Maybe it was just like one of their one of the goon's pet rats, and he's just like really upset about it. He's like worried.
SPEAKER_00So, yep. Uh where it's just like 15-minute window, you got it, pal. Um, and then Monica sneaks. Oh, um, and then yeah, so it's essentially the next day. Monica sneaks onto the house boat Brian's staying at. Uh, she tells him that they are gonna kill them after the mission. Monica is nearly found by Bronan's henchman, but sneaks out um with the help of Rome, who is out there despite just being fucking hilarious.
SPEAKER_01He's so good in this scene where he's just like talking to He is a very distracting person.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's just like if I was those guys, I'd be like, you know what? This short, I'm just gonna be friendly with you. He's hilarious.
SPEAKER_01That'd be fun. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, but yeah, then Vron's man go on to the boat, they're like, nobody's here. And then like they eventually they're like, we're all gonna kill each other. It's like, whoa, what's going on? Um, and then Vrown shows up telling them that the henchman will be riding with them during their mission. It's like, guys, make phone calls. Everybody just drives everywhere for a five-minute conversation and leaves. It's like, we do have landlines. Yeah, but then they'll be tracked. Well, then I yeah, I guess maybe they didn't have cell phones. And it's like, well, how do you call a houseboat? A houseboat phone. Yeah, house house phone.
SPEAKER_01Boat phone. The boat phone.
SPEAKER_00So they report uh this back to their superiors. Brian suspects that this mission will get out of hand due to Markham's dislike of the pair, along with the information secretly told by Monica that the drop-off point is a scheduled airstrip. Vrone is to have the duo executed after the run. As a solution to these problems, Brian and Roman have Taj and his crew modify the muscle cars and have him get all the street racers ready for the next day. Brian and Rome's friendship is fully restored now,
Pink Slips Race And Exit Plans
SPEAKER_00because they've been bickering the whole time. But then they're just like, why you eat so much? Like prison food sucks. Oh man. And they're all like, we're gonna get out of this and we're gonna eat as many burritos and things as we can and maybe start a garage. Man, fucking street burritos are so good. I do love a nice burrito. Burrito bowl to scemium. It's like because they opened up with Dos Bros like a couple years, a few years ago. It's essentially just uh Chipotle. It's a Chipotle ripoff. It's just like you know, it's along with like blue coast burrito, Chipotle, and fuck Chipotle.
SPEAKER_01I'm so mad at them.
SPEAKER_00What they do.
SPEAKER_01They used to give us uh uh the one in Marforo used to give us a 50% military discount. Fifty fucking percent. That's awesome. Then I stopped. Wow. And now the portions are bad.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_00Dose pros? No problem with portions. Give us give you plenty of everything. Oh yeah. Well I mean, I usually just get the bowl because it's easier to reheat. Even though I eat the entire bowl.
SPEAKER_01I'm just like, wow, I ate 1200 calories.
SPEAKER_00That's fine.
SPEAKER_01I know, that's amazing. All at once.
SPEAKER_00I and I am still tiny. Um, so yeah, they're friends, and on the day of the mission, Brian and Roan begin transporting duffel bags of Ron's money with Enrique and Roberto riding along. Um before the 15-minute window is set, Whitworth decides to call on the police to move in on their rest, resulting in a high-speed chase across the city.
SPEAKER_0150 cops.
SPEAKER_00But like first, they all four meet up at this trailer park and they're like, got a sledgehammer, and like the all the walls full of money. Love walls full of money. Oh man, I wish my wall was full of money. Maybe there is, who knows? Maybe like somebody we should break down walls. All of them. Everybody's house should break down walls just to see. Maybe somebody put some money in there. Um, and then like you got Whitworth just like with a comical amount of pictures of his family right above him in his eye line, and he just like looks up at him and he's like, God damn it, I got a job to do. I'm a man of the batch. And he calls it, he says, Get him. Um, so it's an immediate street uh chase. Um Brian and Rome lead the police to a warehouse. Um trying to think. Uh yeah, so but first they're driving. You got like the uh they call it like an ESD electrical stupid device.
SPEAKER_01Ah, I love it.
SPEAKER_00Uh and like Brian has to go out there with this metal device with hand off where you can physically see electricity and static coming off of it. He grabs it with his hand, it rips it off easy peasy. And then he's just like he puts a little cloth over his hand. He's like, I want to chuck this at another car, and that car just explodes.
unknownIt's like, okay.
SPEAKER_01But I do love it because Brian gets in his car, he's like, and I'm like, I love his uh the guy that had to ride with him. He's like, hold the wheel. He's like, I can't drive. I'm like, you can hold things though, right? You can hold things in place. Because it's like driving in the media. You can't even keep it on the city.
SPEAKER_00When people tell me they can't drive, and then it's like they're swerving everywhere. I'm like, you put your hands on the wheel and you don't move. You don't move it a lot. You just keep the car straight. I mean, I don't know. I mean, because I was like, when I learned how to drive, I immediately was just like, I get this. It's called it's like a bike, but you're also I'm currently teaching my 15-year-old.
SPEAKER_01Is it easy peasy or it's really really difficult? She's also taking driver's ed, so it's it's scary. Like, but I offered her the chance to drive from like the grocery store home, and she she got so freaked out that she pulled over. I was like, Good call. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Man. It's weird. Like, I never I like to say that I'm a very good driver. No accidents, no tickets, nothing. And I hated learning how to drive because no one would teach me how to drive in a decent car. It was always a truck, and the here's what I always heard before. If you can drive this, you can drive anything. I'm like, I just like to try to get somewhere in something. Because they always wanted to teach me stick, but it was always like the most it was never the same type of stick, shit. Yeah, it was always like those weird versions of it and like these old ass trucks, and like I'd stall them out, and they're just like, you're not getting it. I'm like, can I try an automatic first? And then when I got my first chance to really drive in like an automatic, it was this giant diesel truck. Nice. And I was like, Jesus Christ, could we stop putting me in the biggest cars? But now I love driving big old machines.
SPEAKER_01I love driving a big old car.
SPEAKER_00Man, when I drove my first like the big U-Hauls, I was like, hell yeah, man.
SPEAKER_01You're like, you wish you had a C V so you're like, we got a great big car on vault.
SPEAKER_00Going home and watching uh Smokey and the Bandit after this.
SPEAKER_01Big man this year is Robert Duck, and we're about to put the hammer down.
SPEAKER_00But I will say this whenever I then got my crown vic, I was like, this is nothing. This is easy peasy to drive. Yeah. My biggest problem is when I first started driving, my dad yelled at me for it. It's like I kept doing having my foot on brake and gas. Because I was like, well, I want my foot on the brake just in case I have to. And my dad's like, what is the truck doing? What are you doing? I was like, it's like, do you have your foot on the brake while driving? He's like, no, it's hovering over. I just got it hovering on it a little bit. And they're like, get off the brake. You only use one foot.
SPEAKER_01I'm like my dad did this, like, he was like, You're breaking too hard. You're not breaking enough. You're I was like, he's like, you're riding the brake. I'm like, I don't know what you want me to do.
SPEAKER_00I will say, yeah, braking, braking is always kind of difficult because you never well, especially if you go from like car to car learning how to drive because they all break differently. It's like my car is very sensitive. You tap that breaker like I'm like, golly. So then going to like another car, it's like, oh, you kind of got pushed down a little bit more. It's like that was a big deal first driving. Um uh yeah, so then um, after all that, they're kind of like trying to evade the police. They feel like they're about to get cornered, so they go into like this warehouse area, and it's kind of one of the best parts of the movie. That was free. I absolutely love it because so they go in and they're like, oh no. Billkin's like, damn, they cornered them surrounded. And then they open up the garages, and all these big ass trucks with like cages on the front of them come out and they just plow through all the trucks. And then like the rest of them are like, All right, time to be badass, and kind of nowhere, everybody drive in no specific direction.
SPEAKER_01So all these would have taken a massive amount of coordination.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, all these awesome cars come out, they're driving around, cops are like, I have to pull over everybody.
SPEAKER_01We can't pull over everybody.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so they're like they're all just disorienting the police. They call it a scramble, and it's like, is this what like most people call it? And though essentially, like, they all start driving out. Um, and then like you just kind of see that uh the two muscle cars go out too, and then like police manage to pull over the eclipse and the Evo, only to find that they're driven by Taj and Suki. Ludicrous. I love when they get out because you see the customs car, they're like, ah, they got them, they're cornered. And then like they get out, they're all waving at the customs thing. I'm like, but you don't know who's watching there. It's like, did Brian and Tyrese tell them, like, make sure you wave at a camera? It's like, what are you talking about? Um, but yeah, so and it's revealed that Brian drove the Camaro and Rome drove the challenger and the henchmen love it. They're like, ha ha ha, y'all are good drivers. We love you. Uh Brian approaches the destination point and Roman, get rid of Roberto by using the same improvised ejector seat powered by nitrous oxide. Ejecto CDO, cuz.
unknownI want one of those.
SPEAKER_00Love it. And I feel so bad because like I'm like, the henchmen were kind of like becoming friends. If they weren't gonna kill him, it'd be like Yeah, I guess, yeah, if they weren't gonna I wish they turned to him, he's like, you know what? We're not gonna kill you. We're actually joining the team and they all become friends. I don't know. I don't know why I like those two henchmen so much, but they they really did. I went on the journey with them. You know, they did.
SPEAKER_01They kind of liked him a little bit.
SPEAKER_00I feel bad. So uh at the
The Scramble And The Big Switch
SPEAKER_00airfield, customs agent have Ronan's plane and convoy surrounded, only discover they were duped into a decoy maneuver while Ron is at a boat yard several miles away, and Brian blows his cover to Enrique when he calls that there is no airstrip where they were heading, as he knew Monica was an undercover agent. He gave her the wrong information on the destination point. See, that's where the cigar thing all comes back. This ain't an old dumb villain, Jason. This guy's got a brain in him.
SPEAKER_01You don't get to the top without being a little smart.
SPEAKER_00Gotta be a little smart. He knows when someone's duping him. So, when Brian arrives at the intended drop-off point, Vero and Brian meet and he leaves with Monica as Enrique prepares to shoot him. However, Roman shows up and crashes his challenge into the side of one of the Lincolns that Varone was using, and Brian uses this moment and attacks Enrique. Roman throws Enrique out of the Camaro and knocks him out. I love this beat-up scene of the Enrique. Uh have I just been calling him Enrique? It's Enrique. Yeah, it's Enrique. Why have I been saying Enrique? That's all right. This is weird. Straight in your notes. No, but I spelled it Enrique.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I've just been reading Enrique. Like that's a name someone has. That's insane that I've just been doing that. But like they start beating him up, but I love how it's kind of filmed where they're like, it seemed like they were told, like, yeah, just kick them and punch them like a few times. But then they're like, they kept the shot going, so they kept like backing up, like, all right, I'll kick them again, I guess. Almost seemed like they were both just like, we don't know when he's actually knocked out. It was, I don't know. It was kind of funny, and I was like, this really fits the two characters. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01They don't know what the fuck are they doing?
SPEAKER_00It's kind of a lot of stuff I like. This, these like weird little things where it seems like maybe the bad filmmaking was a good thing. A little janky. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01On purpose. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00A little bit. So, meanwhile, Varone makes his escape aboard his private yacht. Brian and Rome get into the Camaro, driving off a ramp and crashing into the top of Vroan's yacht. Hell yeah, baby. And to think that this is the tiniest of stunts compared to the rest of the film series movies. This is nothing. Really? Nothing.
SPEAKER_03There's one movie where Vin Diesel says, In a wait, what does he say?
SPEAKER_00In a It's like in a street war where the street always went, and then he stomps the ground. Yeah. And it cracks open.
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_00Furious seven.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
unknownDamn.
SPEAKER_01They're on a garage and like the last airbender.
SPEAKER_00The garage falls apart. That's also the movie where Dwayne the Rock Johnson has a broken arm and he flexes out of a cast.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Oh my god, how am I not seeing these movies?
SPEAKER_00Directed by the guy that directed Saul and Conjuring, James Wan. So yeah, we'll meet. That sounds incredible. Yeah, I think it's this year I was supposed to go through where like every month we're gonna do a Fast and Furious. Definitely gonna do that next year. Awesome. We should do it. We should just do it.
SPEAKER_01I just anyone flexing out of anything is so beast.
SPEAKER_00And that and like by Furious 7, everybody's just bald. Like it's just a bunch of bald, bald people. And I love it.
SPEAKER_01It's all that diesel fumes.
SPEAKER_00I'm I'm I'm just gonna say it right now. I'm bald. On the inside, I'm bald. On the outside, I have hair, but deep down I'm bald bald.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna save myself bald just for Vin.
SPEAKER_00Me too. I won't. So yeah, they jump on the yacht. However, Roman breaks his arm and the vehicle is stuck. Brian manages to get Enrique's pistol and shoots Ron in the shoulder just as he was about to shoot them with a shotgun. Rowan tries to grab the shotgun, but Monica takes it first, ending the pursuit and the mission. I really wish he would have blown his fucking head off. I know. It's like, why not? I know. I guess yuck. I mean, I guess like justice and like laws. But he's gonna get out just like Brian says.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just like they say. He's gonna get out.
SPEAKER_00But he doesn't kill people. He only threatens to kill people.
SPEAKER_01He just sells the drugs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's like she didn't see him kill one person and didn't get any proof with it. No. So he's just gonna be out after a month. Yeah, yeah. Because he's richer. So after customs arrived, they arrest Virone, taking the duffel bags of money, including the three bags they missed in the trunk of the challenger. Uh, with their crimes pardoned, Brian and Rome. Oh, wait, uh, hold on, let me redo it. So customs arrive, they arrest Varone taking the duffel bags of money, and he's like, There's only three duffel bags, right? It's like, yep, that's it.
SPEAKER_03All good here.
SPEAKER_00And they're like, all right, everything's part, and they shake hands, and then uh Rome's like, all right, hold on. Gets three more duffel bags, like, oh, I guess, guess we miscounted. What? Yeah. Rome. Yeah, I know. It's like, well, I mean, it's probably a good thing. They're gonna figure out that that was not a threat. I mean, Vron's gonna be like, that wasn't all the money. We had like six duffel bags worth.
SPEAKER_01Um now that just the police are gonna take it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I know. It's like like nothing's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_00Well, there it is. He weirdest being shown that Rome He's turned a new league. He's doing the right thing, almost.
SPEAKER_01Um then uh the Brian and Roan talk and pockets ain't it because we're going home, Rick.
SPEAKER_00Ryan's like, hey, uh Rome's like smiling at them, and he's like, Yeah, he'll be he'll he'll get his revenge in a couple of months. And Rome's like, Are you fucking kidding me? He's like, he's not getting out, is he?
SPEAKER_01He's not getting out, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And so then they walk, yeah, dude. Yeah. Uh Rome asks, uh, well, so they kind of pondering what to do next. Brian mentions starting a garage. Rome asks how they're gonna afford that. Brian reveals that he took some money, as Roman also reveals that his pockets aren't empty too. Having taken some of the money. It is a great reveal, though, at the end. They're all like, we still criminals, baby.
Yacht Jump Finale And Money Reveal
SPEAKER_01It's great. Yeah, that was that was pretty funny. Yeah, I would say. And should have taken more, though.
SPEAKER_00That's right. At least one duffel bag.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, one. One duffel bag, yeah. Could have just shown it and be like, actually, there's two more.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yes. Whoopsie. Oh, it's like, and then it's like, well, Vrown says there's six, so like, he's a criminal. Yeah. It's like there's there's not. But then they'll be watched, and then it's like, how'd you open this garage? How is all this possible? And it's like, well, our street races, we win 15 grand. We pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps. Yeah, just because I will say say being an underground street racer seems very profitable. It seems fun. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Although it sucks being like if so, like in the the one in the very beginning. Right. Suki fucks her car up. Yeah, but she but she comes in second. She wins nothing.
SPEAKER_00Just fucking nothing. I guess so. That's why she's so upset when she sees Brian. She's like, fuck.
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna win zero dollars. At least second place, yeah. You got like maybe like a thousand bucks. Yeah, you would think. You think maybe there is, and they just didn't say anything.
SPEAKER_01I just felt bad for her because like he's just fucking, hey, I'm gonna raise this bridge, it'll be hilarious, guys.
SPEAKER_00Like, excuse me, you're paying for my well, I get I'm sure she probably got like a free if she went to Taj and was like, hey, yeah, that's her boyfriend. Yeah, or friends that constantly teach each other, it seems like Jason way for Tokyo Drift.
SPEAKER_01It's it's actually I really enjoy that one.
SPEAKER_00Suki a big character in them? No, she's not in it. What? She's the only Japanese girl in the whole movie. It's a complete different cast of characters. Oh god. You got the guy with the largest uh sling bait blade kid, is the main character of Tokyo Drift. He sounds about the same.
SPEAKER_01Why? Why is he in Japan?
SPEAKER_00Uh well, his like dad lives there, and then like he gets in trouble in America, and they so they're the whole sling blade thing.
SPEAKER_01They slowly narrow cut his head in tube.
SPEAKER_00And then they're like, All right, you gotta go to Japan. And then he's like, fine, I'll street race. Wait. Right. Yep. Maybe we'll do that in November.
SPEAKER_01Is that the fourth or the like the fourth?
SPEAKER_00The third, but I think it technically takes place like as the fifth movie.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't matter. There's no continuity.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's one of those movie series where it's like, shit, we didn't think that we'd make ten of these. We have to constantly go back and the money's just so good. And the movie's like, all right, we killed off this actor because they're not coming back two movies later. Shit, they're coming back. Now what do we do? It's magic. I don't know. We'll figure it out. We'll say this movie took place after this movie. Or that, hey, guess what? Nobody actually dies. We all pretend that.
SPEAKER_01Too fast. Too futurist. Too futurist. Yes. We've got to do it, Marty.
SPEAKER_00So or Marty. Morty. So I put the point of Fast and Furious that through friendship, all things are possible.
SPEAKER_01Like shifting into 12th gear, apparently.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. How many times can we shift our cards?
SPEAKER_01Endless gears is as long as you want it to go faster, there's one more gear.
SPEAKER_00If you can have endless bullets and guns in movies, you can have endless gear shifts.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's pretty good.
SPEAKER_00There is no point of this movie.
SPEAKER_01It's like you, Tim Curry, for the voiceovers. Yeah. Did a great job. Do you know who is the voice of the bad guy from Ferngully? Really? I just learned that today. I did not. Monster. Haven't seen Fairgo.
SPEAKER_00He even sings a song. I don't even I'm assuming I probably saw it as a kid, but I remember it very little other than like very Yeah, it's not good. Just like pictures of it in my head. So we're gonna hit up our category the good, the bad, the ugly, the fine. It's where we discuss the good of a film, something we like, the bad, something we didn't like, the ugly, something didn't age well, the fine, something that did age well. The good for me is Tyrese. I love him. Like honestly, this movie could have been a big nothing burger if it wasn't for him for me.
SPEAKER_01To me, it really was a nothing burger. You're wrong! No, it's just dumb fun. He did make it, he did, yeah. You're right. He did make it fun. Um, although he's also part of my bad as being a little racist towards the Hispanics. But like, you know, that's I guess that's just our own. I think it's kind of all it's all these movies.
SPEAKER_00All these movies are very inclusive, but they usually make fun of everybody's like backgrounds.
SPEAKER_01That's true. He does make fun of the white boy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like crazy white boy. He kind of just makes fun of everybody and he usually focuses in on their race. Um well, for my bad, I put uh, I don't know, uh, the acting.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the acting is all pretty bad.
SPEAKER_00I mean, outside of what I like that what Tyrese was doing and Billkins, I'm just like, that's about it. Yeah, everybody else was just saying their lines.
SPEAKER_01I did like uh I don't know, just like nope, can't do it. Uh yeah, ludicrous did pretty well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. That is true. I think Suki was good. I mean, all the like the the garage people were good. The garage people. Yes, you'll master. Um for the ugly. I I I was just like, I don't know, the acting is the same.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's the it's the same.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, it's the villain. I mean, it's like it's literally probably the worst villain of the series. Yeah, he just he just brings nothing to the table. Yes. It was just like, oh, where are we? Oh, or we're in Miami.
SPEAKER_01We need someone who looks South American and his a drug lord. Yeah. And that's it. Like, you know. Yeah. Like, that's it. Smoke one cigar. That's your thing.
SPEAKER_00It's like, other than that, he's just like, he's just supposed to be menacing. But then it's like he also just kind of looked at the guy, it's like, you're not.
SPEAKER_01Although the trick with the rat, I do like that torture. I think there should be more torture in these movies.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They just uh I've they should have either made him a little more normal or they should have made him a little more psychotic. They just didn't go more psychotic. They didn't go enough in either direction. It's like they should have made him seem like a very smart businessman type of villain. Or I got more rats. Yeah, I got two rats in a bucket.
SPEAKER_01So good rat, bad rat. Good rat, bad rat. Why don't they do some car-based torture, like quartering, like they used to used to do with horses?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just like put pull them apart.
SPEAKER_01That would be incredible. Yeah. Um like do a burnout on their face.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um that would actually be pretty.
SPEAKER_01Like a Bond movie. Like getting closer and closer to the wheels spinning and you just like ripping ass.
SPEAKER_00It's like you just slowly, it's like, all right, you lay somebody on the ground, you force them on the ground. It's like, all right, we're gonna start with your hand. Give us what you want, or we're gonna run over your hand. Yeah. And it's like, all right, now we're gonna go to your other hand. Yes. And then the foot and then the knees, and then just like treat them as a crash test. It's at that point, it's like, well, y'all aren't gonna tell me all of a sudden this ran over you a few times. Um, for the fine, I put Paul Walker, R.I.P. I mean, as much as like you're not a very good actor in this movie, it is a joy to watch you say I said drop a cook. One of my favorite gifts or uh reels of all time is one that first popped up, and I was like, oh yeah. Out of context, that hits was super crazy. Um, but yeah, anything else at age well? I mean, obviously, there's like Luda, I think Tyrese obviously wage well. John Singleton's a great director.
SPEAKER_01Nothing from this movie, although a good car chase is always fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean they the action in this movie's good. Yeah. Right? I mean, the car stuff, they really they did a great job with all that. Um cars also pretty cool. Cars, yeah, they're always fun. Like, not someone who's interested in learning about cars, but I do like them on the TV screen, going fast.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just I have a problem with like these the cars that gave Tyrone. It's just it looks like such a shitty car.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Wait, the purple one?
SPEAKER_01The purple one. Tyrese. Whatever.
SPEAKER_00You didn't like the purple? I don't like uh no, eclipses are garbage cars. Man. Yeah, but like they're great racing cars, apparently.
SPEAKER_01I like the lights and stuff, like go need for speed. Just make a need for speed movie.
SPEAKER_00They did. Oh. It's got Aaron Paul in it from Breaking Bad. I haven't seen it. I've always wanted to watch it though, because I love those games. So we're gonna hit up our next category.
The Good Bad Ugly Fine
SPEAKER_00Double features. We recommend a movie to go alongside this movie. Don't know why I said that. Like that. Uh, what do you got, Jason?
SPEAKER_01Uh Rush Hour 2. Nice. Yeah, man, that's uh great cop, like cop buddy. Yeah. Like comedy action thriller kind of thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm trying to like uh that one I don't remember as well.
SPEAKER_01Chris Tucker. Jackie Chan doing Kung Fu. Doing the Kong Far stuff doing stuff.
SPEAKER_00Telling telling each other. I don't understand anything coming out of your mouth. I do. I do love the rush hour movies. Um so what if I told you that there was a movie directed by a guy that wrote movies like Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible, and pretty much Let's say you're a liar, every single like most of Steven Spielberg's movies. He's he's written for all those movies. And then he's like, I'm gonna direct a movie. And he was like, I know what I need in this movie, Michael Shannon. All right. I also need Joseph Gordon Levitt. Yes. And it's gonna be so good. And what should the plot be? Well in Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop who pursues the cyclist through the city. That's right. Fucking David Kepp, who wrote all these great movies, was like, I got a bicycle movie. I must direct it. And do you know what, Jason? It fucking rolls. It sounds like speed on a but on a bike. It's just like a guy, it's just like uh essentially Michael Shannon's like chasing down Joseph Gordon Levitt as he's a bike messenger in uh like in a car? Oh, he's just like chasing him in whatever he can get in. Michael Shannon, and it kind of rolls, dude. That sounds amazing. What's it called? Premium rush. I forgot I never even said the title. I just remember this was like it came out in 2012. I remember just being like, I think my girlfriend at the time was like, let's watch it. And I was like, the bicycle movie?
SPEAKER_01One of my favorite things on the planet is watching a bicycle messenger get hit by the someone opening their car door. Oh man.
SPEAKER_00Poor people. Poor people that that happens to. You're a monster, Jason. You're a monster. But yeah, watch premium rush. Honestly, it's kind of a premium of a rush. Yeah. And that concludes the episode on Too Fast, Too Furious, Too Jesse, Too Jason. Um, damn. I should have done that bit at the end.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you did, sort of.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but like sign it off. Well, make sure you join us next week because we're doing a nice short, sweet fucking rip roaring of a movie. We're doing sando Sandy Bullocks in the movie Gravity, because I've been wanting to watch that for a while.
Double Features And Closing Notes
SPEAKER_00So uh it's a nice short hour and 30 minute roller coaster of a movie. I watched that movie in IMAX, and then my other friends were like, come watch it, come watch Gravity with us. And I was like, I'll be there in an hour. So I had to drive from the IMAX to the other studio and watch it right next to each other, back to back. Um, movie is great. It's uh Afonso Curron, who did movies such as Oh my god. Uh I can only think of the Harry Potter movie. Prisoners of Azkaban, all over of his movies, Roma, he did Rama. They're all left my head. Those are the only two movies I can think of.
SPEAKER_01Prisoner of Ascaban was one of the better ones.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh that was my favorite. And then I read the book and I was like, whoa. This movie needed to be five hours long. But we're getting a TV show, so we'll get everything from the book eventually.
SPEAKER_01All right, Jason. Don't watch the TV show.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Jack H. Rowling says she's gonna put all the pro the proceeds from the show towards anti-LGBTQ rights.
SPEAKER_00Man. Got a bitch. Well, technically, I'm paying for if you pay for HBO, they're still getting money. She's getting the money no matter what. So just by owning any Warner Brothers properties until we're getting it.
SPEAKER_01Stop stop watching everything.
SPEAKER_00I mean, at this point, if you if you don't want to support people, you have to just stop supporting anyone. Buy physical media is all you can do. Because then nobody will get that money if you buy it. You just own it at this point. Um, so yeah, uh bad people bad people do bad things.
SPEAKER_01Uh except for Dolly Parton. She was the best person we're gonna do.
SPEAKER_00R.I.P. Tim Curry, R.I.P. Dolly Parton. I mean, two of the same people, if you ask me. Ooh, Jesse's being sits again. Um, no, it really does suck. Uh Dolly Parton was a really good person. And it's a real bummer. It seems like a lot of really good people are dying.
SPEAKER_01It's good to end the show on a bummer.
SPEAKER_00Huh?
SPEAKER_01It's good to it's great to end the show on a bummer. Yeah. Uh this movie is just follow us on our LinkedIn.
