“Damn you people, this is golf, not a rock concert!” Happy Gilmore is still hilarious and sentimental. We rewatch Adam Sandler’s 1996 sports comedy and get into the real question: is it just a stack of iconic quotes, or is it actually a good movie with a solid underdog engine?

Welcome And Movie Recommendation
SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to the We Recommend Podcast, a movie podcast where every week we recommend a movie for you to watch and then come back here and listen to us discuss. I'm Jesse. I'm Jason. Damn you people, this is golf, not a rock concert. Cause this week we recommend Happy Gilmore. Yeah. Jason, what's your opinions on Happy Gilmore? And like when was the first time you watched it and this time watching? Is there like a difference? You find it just as funny as usual?
SPEAKER_02I don't think I'll ever find it as funny as when I watched it as a teenager, but it's still so good. Just like the the opening part where he's hitting golf balls into down the road and like hits that guy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I love it. It was just like the Adams family. Yeah. Hell you know, and when uh he's hitting golf balls off the top level of his house and he hits it into like the cereal bowl of the the neighbors across the street. Oh.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, I understand that. Um I think this is kind of one of the one of the few Sandler movies that kind of never stopped being funny
Why Happy Gilmore Stays Funny
SPEAKER_00to me. Yeah. Uh more so than like movies like The Water Boy and things like that. Like this is one I can return to more, kind of alongside of 50 First Dates, This and Wedding Singer, like the three I can just kind of constantly watch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true. I like the relationship he has with his grandmother. So sweet.
SPEAKER_00It's sweet. And like Jewey Julie Bow Bowen as Virginia is like one of my favorite uh, you know, like Adam Sandler girlfriends, which actually um it was one of uh my questions I was gonna ask you. It's like, do you have a favorite uh girl alongside Adam Sandler? I mean he's there's Jennifer Anison and uh Drew Barrymore have been in the most with him, but then you have like I think he and Drew Barrymore are pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're probably the best for sure.
SPEAKER_00From Wedding Singer and 51st Dates, yeah. And plus, you know Drew Barrymore just kind of rules. I don't know. She just seems like a good ass person. Seems like it. Seems like it.
SPEAKER_02She did cross the picket line when they were uh picketing when they were uh Well, she hasn't murdered anybody.
SPEAKER_00That type of that's that's our new bar for how like uh actor and actress. Should we should look at them now? It's like I crossed the picket line, that's all right, because the other ones, you know, Weinstein. Um do you think this is an actual good movie? Or is it just like uh there's jokes in it that I like, or do you find it to be an actual good movie? I do find it actually pretty good. Yeah, I feel like it's a good movie. It's genuinely funny, it's kind of a great sports movie, too. I mean, classic underdog movie. I mean, there's like obviously I feel like there's definitely Rocky references in the movie. I mean, you have Carl Weathers, which is I mean, and I think he's like one of the keys to this movie is because how how legit he's playing the character of Chubbs is so legit like it's silly, but also he plays it completely straight, and I think that's what makes this movie work so well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I like that that one scene where he uh I thought we were talking about this before we started. He's he's saying like he's I guess he's kissing up to him and like trying to get him get Carl Weathers to forgive him. Yeah. So he's saying like all these things like I'm like you're good looking and I'm not, and then he just chimes in with he waits for him to say that to say, as long as you're willing to admit that we can now move forward with such a straight face.
SPEAKER_00There he's like in the in-between between Apollo Creed and his character on arrested development. He's like dead center between those two characters in this, and it's like beautiful, it's so good. And it's just great. Every time that the hand gets destroyed, it's all muddy. Yeah, it's very tough wood, gets run over, shakes the hand, crumbles it.
SPEAKER_02They say it was made of hickory or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh, do you have a favorite Sandler character? Like, I guess it's almost like the same as like, do you have a movie that is his most favorite?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I always thought that this and Billy Madison were the two funniest growing up. But like, I think although I think Happy Gilmore is a funnier character.
SPEAKER_00He's not as silly, but he's still I'm I'm sure I said this on the Wedding Singer podcast, but man, the first time re-watching Billy Madison as an adult, I was like, holy shit, does he do the voice the entire movie? He kind of does. But then you know, you get classic things like like spit it out, Junior. Looty magazine day. Yeah, women over 80. And um blanking on his name, but the school bus driver. Yeah, Chris Farley. Chris Farley, yeah, just getting all upset. It's like he's so good. He eats all the kids' lunch. Pillard Madison, good fucking movie. Um Doyle rules.
SPEAKER_02Uh, did you like the sequel? I haven't seen it. I watched part I started watching it, but I didn't keep watching it.
SPEAKER_00It's uh
Sandler Characters And Sequel Talk
SPEAKER_00it's fine.
SPEAKER_02It's fine, it's fine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, I actually thought it was pretty decent up until the point where they get to the tournament and then they just like, I don't know, they just make it this whole stupid thing. And they shoehorn other Netflix people in it. And it's just like, did we it becomes like an extreme golf? And I'm like, we don't really need that. Like, why do we have to do that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, golf is dumb enough as it is.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I think that's what this movie kind of goes into. It's like, you know, when the crowds kind of get more fun, they're like, this is golf, not rock concerts.
SPEAKER_02Is it like that's kind of like what they tried to do with Caddyshack too? Yeah. Like I think we'll make Caddyshack 2, this again the sequel. They kind of tried to add all this extra stuff in there, and it it was funny without it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like you don't really I don't know. Golf is kind of a hella boring sport. Um something I could never get into as a sports guy. Like I could watch like other boring sports. I like playing golf. I'm just really bad at it.
SPEAKER_02Um we should just do a golf, we should do a golf day. Me and you. Although I do kind of at least a driving range. I mean, yeah, driving ranges are fun. But I do get a slightly a red flag
Golf Culture Rants And Red Flags
SPEAKER_02when I find out someone's a golfer. Just a little bit, just because of all the people I know that golf.
SPEAKER_00What else you do? You hear your wife? You also a wife?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. That famous commercial.
SPEAKER_00Are you an alcoholic too?
SPEAKER_02Don't touch my driver.
SPEAKER_00Is this uh an excuse to get out in the sun and overheat and then drink a bunch of beer?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, basically. Although I've never really drank a bunch while golfing.
SPEAKER_00Me, I've never been golfing. I don't know. It's just uh, you know, from some things I've seen.
SPEAKER_02You hit a ball with a stick, and I really loved Rob Robin Williams' stand-up routine about it. Yeah. Have you ever seen that? He's like invented by the Scottish, yeah, like a drunk Scottish man.
SPEAKER_00I and there's a it's kind of like poker. There's a pretentiousness to it from golfers. It's like every time like you go to like somebody who golfs, you're like, all right, we gotta take this serious, you know, they get their little stances. I'm like, because I've only I've only really done a driving range one time, and that was like in high school. Nice. But the adults that were teaching us how to do it, I was like, you guys have to chill the fuck out. We are at it that we're at a driving range. You guys are being too intense about hitting some balls, okay? You guys are do not do golf for sports, okay. It's just kind of like you know, when someone's playing poker and they got their glasses and something, it's like, guys, you're not professional.
SPEAKER_02Well, Mario Golf taught me a lot.
SPEAKER_00Love Mario Golf. Let's get to it.
SPEAKER_02I almost hit like a 45-foot putt one time because I I looked at the the the putting green as like the Mario Kart with the grid all laid out, and I was like, in my mind, you know. Oh snap, that's awesome. So close to hitting it.
SPEAKER_00I'm just gonna say the Mario sports games are have always been good. And I love some of us. I love the tennis one, like the soccer one. I love the soccer box.
SPEAKER_02I will swing on you. It is it's so it is such a cheap shot. It's just the game full of cheap shots. Yeah, that's the only way you can win. Yeah, pretty much.
SPEAKER_00Well, you just gotta get your like your special. Uh gotta constantly have it. I played the shit out of that game. I think it was on the Wii when I was in high school. Loved it.
SPEAKER_02I played the shit out of it too.
SPEAKER_00And then they put it on the Switch and I've yet to buy it because it's too expensive for what it is.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, the new Switch Direct came out or the Nintendo Direct. Do you watch it? Uh-huh. That's so good. Bunch of Pokemon stuff? Uh
Mario Sports And Nintendo Detour
SPEAKER_02not not a bunch, but there is some. There's a lot of good games coming out.
SPEAKER_00Can't wait, they should, you know, eventually release some. Yeah. Um, Mario Talk. Now back to Gilmore Talk.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there's gonna be an open world Kirby game.
SPEAKER_00Oh, really? Nice.
SPEAKER_02It looks like Mario Odyssey and stuff, but I was never the biggest Kirby boy.
SPEAKER_00Never really played. I liked playing Kirby and uh Smash Brothers. Just eating people all the time is always the best. And pooping them out. This is so cute. Yeah, just big, big, big, big punk ball. Hungry punk pink ball. Punk people. Punk pink ball. I don't know. I'm losing my mind. So
Real Trivia Behind Happy Gilmore
SPEAKER_00Happy Gilmore was based on a real person, Jason. Did you know that?
SPEAKER_02You're a liar.
SPEAKER_00So follow the story of young uh the character of Happy is outrageous in a number of ways, so it's quite surprised that we learn that it's actually based on a real human being. Adam Sandler based Happy off of his childhood friend, Kyle. Kyle. Kyle was a hockey player who would get very passionate about the game. He also frequently played golf with Sandler and his dad. Kyle is uh now a teacher in Sandler's hometown where he coaches high school hockey team. So it's like, oh, it's actually based on something.
SPEAKER_02He's uh the only guy that ever took off his skate and tried to stab somebody somebody with it.
SPEAKER_00Some of the best. You know, they should have just done like also a sequel and it just been him. He got into hockey. Oh no, that would be a good one. He actually was able to do hockey, he used his golf skills to be a better hockey player. So Christopher McDonald, who plays shooter McGavin, almost wasn't shooting McGavin, which would have been an atrocity. Yeah. Because he's one of the best movie villains ever. He's really love him. His fucking wink. So um surprisingly, when uh it came very close to the we came very close to the version of Happy Gormore without McDonald. He actually turned down the role twice, saying he was tired of playing villains. It wasn't until he met with Sandler that he changed his mind. McDonald has since said that taking the role is one of the best moves of his career. Yeah, I'd say so. And apparently Kevin Costner was almost shooting for Gavin. Which, you know, actually might not have been the worst. It might not have been too bad. Yeah, I just think he would have played it a little too straight. I don't know. I don't know. No. I'm down. I would have done it.
SPEAKER_02Chris, this this guy's so good at making a complete ass out of his pretentious self on film. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01It just uh it's so dirty and in that one movie.
SPEAKER_00I feel like he I just don't know if he I feel like if he brought I don't know if Kevin Costner would have done the comedy bits as well. No. I just don't feel like he would have persisted this guy crushes it. It would have been a little different. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um the heart out of a buffalo right on the green.
SPEAKER_00So Bob Barker did all his own stunts, which is insane. Um Bob Barker had actually studied Tang Sud-Do karate for decades under none other than Chuck Norris. What? Yeah, the Price of Right host uh could probably break your nose without breaking your sweat. So when the time came to physicose with Sandler, uh Barker insisted on doing his own stunts. In fact, he had refused to do the role until he learned that he he wins the fight. Which is insane. And is also the very first fight to win the first MTV movie awards for best fight. Uh an award that doesn't matter. I know. I I really want to watch it though. I've like because they're doing like the MTV um video music video awards, I think. Still? Yeah, I think they're still doing it. And I was like, Natalie, we have to watch this to see if it's anything like it was when we were children. Um so you know what the Razzies are? Uh aren't they feel like bad? Yeah, it's what Rotten Tomatoes gives for uh that. And um, so Happy Gilmore seems to have enjoyed a uh so Adam Sandler won a Razzie for his performance as Happy Gilmore. The Razzies are dumb. Uh they're supposed to be a joke, but now they're they're kind of just like, what are we doing here? It's like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Um I don't see why they would give him a Razzie for that. I mean, is it if it was satirical, is it supposed to be like you're kind of in a bad movie, but that's what like I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Especially for this one. I'm like, is this really like because they never go after like the truly bad performances. I mean, because in most movies everything's pretty good. And so they don't actually go after people that absolutely deserve it. Though I think uh Adam Sandler won it for Jack and Jill, and that's absolutely okay. Okay. Um that movie's an atrocity. I remember there's a there's a Survivor season where one of the rewards they got to go on was to watch Jack and Jill. Oh no, and they tried to tie it into like the theme of Survivor, and it was just like, I'm like, I'm sorry, but no. It's like, why did they have to give you Jack and Jill? I would, I mean, that I'd be totally down if I lived in the unit. I guess, yeah, if you starved 25 days and then you get Coke and popcorn in a Jack and Jill movie. I'm like, I'm in. Yeah, actually, that would sound pretty nice. Yeah. Um, so that's pretty much there's not really that many interesting facts. So we can head on into the plot of the movie.

We recommend mailbag at gmail.com. And we do have some comments.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, so we have a couple um from a guy like on YouTube, William Gass.
SPEAKER_00Uh, don't know if that's his real name. He who knows, it could be spelled different. Like, we're on to our boy Mark with a C. We know we know that C is supposed to be a K. Uh, but this was on Batman Begins. He asked, Do you really think Christopher Nolan makes the fight scenes himself? Or rather, do you think a company just hires a few teams with the goal of making it hip and Hollywood? I well, I mean, I think he definitely films them himself. Uh I mean, choreography-wise, definitely another team does it, but um but in terms of filming, I would just assume like he was the one that's like no deacons or whoever did it, it's like do it my way. I don't think it was Deacons. I can't remember. It was one of them, but um, yeah, and then he also says he is a terrible movie. I disagree, but I understand. Uh um, I would say that. Um, yeah, so thanks, William Gass. Yeah, appreciate it. Uh appreciate the comments. Also, if uh you listen to this and let us know a movie you want recommended. Be super interested to hear. Um, I have a feeling it won't beat. So, yeah, thanks for the comments. Love to hear from you guys. It makes me super excited when I see a one on the notification bell on YouTube. Because I'm like, hell yeah, let's go, baby. It's either a new subscriber or a comment. And then I'm real bummed when it's a sad one. So,
Plot Setup Grandma House And Chubbs
SPEAKER_00Jason, happy Gilmore, 1990.
SPEAKER_01Four? Six.
SPEAKER_00Well, soon as IMDB. Uh 1996. Nice. I think it's the exact same year as our other movie. It's not. All right, happy Gilmore. So, Happy Gilmore is an aspiring ice hockey player who possesses a powerful and dangerous slap shot that his late father taught him as a child, who I think he killed with his slap shot. Probably. It seemed like he's holding the camera, then he hits it, then he's dead.
SPEAKER_02Or like knocked out the air conditioning unit onto him.
SPEAKER_00It's just like, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Happy. Like your your dad was the only person able to die in this movie. You're able to get hit by a car, an old lady gets hit by a car, and a lot of hit by cars in this movie. It's kind of crazy. Um, he went to live with his grandma who likes kiss. Yes. Uh, he became very aggressive after his father passed. Happy's over-aggressive streak and lack of skating talent that consistently prolude preclude him from joining a hockey team. He has worked many jobs, usually just humping things and shooting his boss with a no gun. I'm not sure if that will come back later. Like every job, there's some phallic shaped thing he puts between his legs and start out. Everybody's like, and he's also a plumber and his entire butt's out. It's like good bit. Um and Mr. Larson is his boss. I love that character. He's so huge, one of the greatest all-time characters in film history. So um, happy tries out for the latest hockey team, but it's just too aggressive. And then when laughed at by his coaches after he doesn't get the thing, uh the team, he beats him up, which is probably half the reason. He has like the record for most minutes in a penalty box and things like that. Yeah, it's great. It's kind of bad rap. Do you like hockey?
SPEAKER_02I do like I like watching hockey.
SPEAKER_01Hockey over golf? Oh, yeah. Uh 100%. Hockey over football? Yeah. Uh football over golf. Uh uh, no.
SPEAKER_02I just can't bring myself to watch football, man.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. You'd rather watch golf than football? You know things happen in football. Oh, you're right.
SPEAKER_02No, I would rather watch football than golf. But like, I don't know. I just feel so bad every time I watch it. Because I know that none of these guys are getting treated for their head trauma, and they're all gonna be sick.
SPEAKER_00They are getting treated for it, Jason. By paper. Yeah. Money. Paper, yeah, you're right. You're right. Gotta do something dangerous to make a couple hundred million dollars in this country. Well, that's fine, I guess.
SPEAKER_02I just when we would go to the high school games to watch my daughter play in the band, and on the dance team, I'm just we had to watch the football parts in between. So that's the part that sucks. Gotcha. It can be exciting.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm so excited for tonight's football game, the Rams versus the 49ers in Australia. I'm so ready for it. Football, baby, let's go. Tennessee Titans, we're gonna win games this year, hopefully. More than three, please, for the love of God. So when Happy returns home, he his pissed-off girlfriend leaves him. Uh, they fight through the door speaker. I'm sorry, baby. That shit. And so like he's arguing with her, she leaves, and then he's like, I'll just do this to you. Just you know, classic Adam Sandler shit. And then, like, slowly, more people, there's like a kid outside listening to him, and then there's like a bike messenger, and then there's like an old late Asian lady, and the old angel lady comes upstairs with him, and they bug. Yeah. Um, so yeah, uh then he wakes up and he leaves. His grandmother, who raised him after his father died, has not paid her taxes for many years. And because of this, he doesn't have any money. It's like 10 years you didn't pay free tax. Just supposed to come out of your mortgage. Uh, she owes $270,000 uh to the IRS, and the house that Happy Father's built with his bare hands is about to be seized. Gilmore has only three months to come up with the money, or else the house will be sold. I love the real estate agent in this. He's like, now, like it's like, why are you doing this? Like, I'm not doing this. I have nothing to do with this. It's the government doing this. And then he tells him all this and he's like, You hate me, don't you? And then he just throws them out. It's like, I really love that part. That's such a good bit. So uh Grandma Gilmore is forced to temporarily move into a retirement home or a sweatshop run by a sadistic manager named Hal. Uh it's Ben Stiller, he's in an uncredited role.
SPEAKER_02Slap a uh goatee on Ben Stiller, instant amazing villain. Instant devil.
SPEAKER_00Put some horns on him, he looks like the devil. One of the best best parts of the whole movie is this like fucking side plot. Which I mean, all this is because you know, there's you know, this is like a big thing, I think, in the 90s where like people mistreating old people in homes.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00And Adam Stanley does what he does best with people in very harrowing situations. He makes fun of it. Yeah, it always works.
SPEAKER_02Hell, this is a nicer nursing home than my grandmother went to. Holy fuck, dude. Really? It was sad watching her, like she just kind of wasted away in hers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there I've been in a couple, and they really they look too much like hospitals, and I think that's the problem with them. It's like they really should just like gussy them up a little bit. It's like you pretty much I mean, yeah, like put normal beds in there instead of like hospital beds. It it is a very like it's like not what you think and what you see in a lot of movies where it's just like they look like they live in apartments and stuff like that sometimes. And I'm like, that's that's the rich people.
SPEAKER_02Her her room was just like the cement bricks, and like they were painted over with like white yellow, like that oh, even worse. You know, yeah, like some municipal building. It's like mustard if you added like and there was like nothing on the walls, it was just her bed and a room with a TV. I was like, this is the saddest shit I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_00Game show network.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, she would watch like Westerns, but she was oh, that's even worse. No, actually, I love the game show network.
SPEAKER_00I did too. We watched it, we used to watch it all the time. Lingo? Oh yeah. Um this is we also this is where we get the lady uh gets ran over. He's like, um, and then grandma asks Gilmore, like, how's your girlfriend? Oh, she got hit by a bus. She's dead. Oh I just feel like Adam Sandler does a great job at conveying like heartbreak after a breakup in like a very childish way, but yeah. Like a lot of things he does is just it's like always over-aggressive, but it it's kind of how you feel inside. Yeah. So while uh repossessing grandma's furniture, a pair of movers, challenge happy to hit golf balls, and his unorthodox hap hockey slap shot hits 400 yards three times, winning him $40 as a result. Uh it's the iconic part where he hits the it's Will Sasso, by the way. Love Will Sasso. Uh he hits the ball, goes to the guy's window, hits it again. The guy's like, Hey, y'all hit my window, hits him in the head. And then the third time, like his wife is outside, is like, what's going on? She gets hit, falls down off the ground. It's just one of the funniest things ever.
SPEAKER_03He was killed two people. It's so good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, he should be in jail for a while.
SPEAKER_02Can't prove it was him though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So this gives Happy the idea to go to the driving range to hustle golfers with his swing when he when his progress is noticed by former golf star and current club pro Chupps Peterson. Um, Carl Weather's baby. And I love it. She he's watching teaching someone how to golf, and she's doing terrible, and he's like, that's it. Great job. He's not even looking wonderful. She's like missing every time. So good. So uh while Gilmore is taking uh baseballs to the head in a batting cage, Chubb's trying to convince Happy to enter a local tournament by telling him he can make the money to buy back his grandmother's house. Chubbs was supposed to be the next Arnold Palmer, assuming a cough her. Uh, but an alligator bit his damn hand off. Uh, but he was able to tear the gator's eye out. While trying to convince him uh Happy him, while trying to convince Happy, Happy accidentally knocks his hand off and it gets ran over. Um, Happy is convinced by the money, though, to do the tournament.
SPEAKER_02He shakes his nub. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Just, you know, just some of the best shit, all in one scene. I mean, I even though I passed over him in the batting cage as a kid, that was so funny to me. And then when the kid tries it and he gets knocked out, I remember cry laughing watching this on Comedy Central.
SPEAKER_02I used to be terrified of batting cages.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because the balls just flying at you like 50 miles an hour. Fuck. It was crazy. I played, you know, baseball for a little bit, up until I decided I want to do football for a while. Um, and never scared of the ball. Ever. You can throw it as me hard as you want, I catch it, it's fine. And then it was like, I don't know, eight, nine years later, I joined a church softball league. Turns out I became terrified of a baseball. And I was like, or a softball as well. But I was like, because my friend would just try to throw him as hard as he could at me. And eventually I was like, I will literally quit this league if you do not stop doing this. We're warming up, we're not trying to kill each other. I don't want you to throw that. No, he's just throwing it, seeing how hard he can throw it constantly. And I'm like, you're fucking strong. Throw to somebody else if this is what you want to do. I'm just warming up my arm. But it just thought it's so hard. I was like, how is I not like I used to never be scared of a baseball? And like, I guess not doing it a while. It became like, wow, don't want to get hit by a baseball. Why am I playing this stupid game? Also, not a baseball lover. Anyways, well, that's my ramblings about baseballs. So he gets to the tournament, we meet Shooter McGavin, who's um an ass. And uh Virginia Vennett, who's a babe. Yes. Um, even though she's got that whole uh Hillary Clinton haircut, and it's just like, man, we really fucked up in the 90s with uh Princess Diana hairstyles. Right. Yeah, kind of like that, essentially, but I don't know. Not my favorite hairstyle.
SPEAKER_01The 90s were rough, man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, men's style, girl style. I mean, it was all really good. It was good and bad. I don't know, because kind of miss it, but also love the gruntshit.
SPEAKER_02You know, plain t-shirts and just like a a completely different idea of like the perfect woman. Like, you know what I mean? Yeah. We watched I with I turned on uh the fifth element again last night.
SPEAKER_00Uh the boy can't stop fifth element.
SPEAKER_02And like Mia Jovovich supposed to be the perfect woman, perfect, you know, creature. And she's like sticked in, you know.
SPEAKER_00And hey, that's only coming back, it seems like. I guess. Because so many like everybody's so skinny now. It's crazy. Like actresses-wise. And it's like, why are we doing this? It's like I thought we weren't doing this anymore. We were all like, hey, like I'm thick. So I'm sorry, guys. Some random
Tour Chaos Shooter And Virginia
SPEAKER_00guy just walked into my house. Sounds like he has marmalade in his mouth. Oh, yeah. He actually sounded like Andy Dwire when he tries to do that voice. So um, it's golf time, baby. Happy tries to beat up his caddy. Uh, because he just kind of runs up and grabs his thing. Well, I mean, also at the same time, he can just be like, hey, uh, I'm your caddy. They're giving you caddy and it's me, and grab it instead of just taking it and running in front. I'll be like, hey, who the hell's taking my back? Um, when Happy goes to tee off, he misses the ball, and Chubbs has to remind him it's all in the hips. It's all in the hips. He's like, get off me. What are you doing? It's like, I'm just trying to loosen you up, baby. Which is so true. You just gotta loosen the nerves, you know, you just gotta calm down.
SPEAKER_02It was really funny.
SPEAKER_00Um, the next shot, he rocks it, riffs that shit. And I will say, this movie does such a good job with the ball hits. Yeah. The so good. And I think that's I think that's like you know, this part of the elements of why a movie like this kind of keeps going.
SPEAKER_02It kind of makes golf fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it may really, it that's why this movie's such a success. It it does everything, it's funny. I love all the people in it, and then it somehow makes me want to be like, I could hit a golf ball today if I had the chance. Um, so yeah, shutting up all the laughing people. Uh, but now it's time to putt. And turns out he ain't good at it. He eventually makes it and beats up a heckler. So violent. I mean, I will say it's like, I mean, the people in this movie, it's like, you know, people can just knock the shit out of you.
SPEAKER_02Should normalize that again.
SPEAKER_00It's it's like this guy is not a normal person. You've seen him cussing like one of break golf clubs. Maybe don't talk shit about him to the point where he can hear you. So uh next time he gets uh a hole in one and a par four, cool, I think. Yeah. Uh hole in ones are cool. Par four, I'm assuming you get par and four shots. Uh so Virginia is excited, but not so much shooter McGavin. We get a montage of Happy doing well and also kind of failing. Um, it's the end of the tournament, and Happy has just hit a putt and one. He tries a few shots and keeps missing. Uh oh, I didn't mean to put that. So it's the end of the tournament, and Happy just has to hit a uh putt to win. He tries a few shots and keeps missing. And this is uh where Chubbs is like, dude, come on, just gotta tap it in. He's like, just tap it in, just a little tappy tap, taparoo. No one can do it as good as him. He's just the best. So he finally makes the putt, and Happy wins the tournament and earns a spot on the pro golf tour, um, which is just uh fictional golf, not the actual PGA tour. Uh who gives a shit? Virginia Virginia congratulations him. She tells him uh winner of the next game wins over $200,000. Crazy. Um and he's like, I'm in.
SPEAKER_02Um and wait to keep those giant checks.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right. Uh so nice. It makes like seeing his checks is like I'm like, I I'm pretty sure he's like in like three games, he made what we make a year. Yeah. And I'm like, man, I really wish I was I tried to do golf. Yeah, like last place and make more than we do.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, like his the next game he I think makes like four thousand dollars for uh coming in last place. And I'm like, I really should have been a golfer. I really should have been a golfer. It's a month's worth of our like what we get paid in a month, essentially. And that's true. I'm sure the taxes aren't taken out, and then you'll have to pay a lot on that. Uh just kidding. It still doesn't matter. He makes a lot more than us. It's very upsetting. So, um, and they don't even have the chance for a concussion. At least football players can get destroyed. I don't know, man. You can get hit with a ball. That's true. It could just don't stand in front of it. So, uh yeah, Chubbs advises him to Happy to hold off on joining the tour for six months so that Chubbs can make him a better all-around golfer. Against Chubbs' advice, Happy joins the tour immediately because he needs the money. Gotta get that house. So at the retirement home, we see Hal being a hard ass. He is forcing the old ladies to make quilts to sell.
SPEAKER_02But my fingers hurt.
SPEAKER_00He's like, oh yeah, your fingers hurt? Well, now your back's about to hurt. Because you just got landscaping, dude. When Happy arrives, he threatened his grandma not to say anything. And then Happy drops an AC unit on the lady ran over earlier.
SPEAKER_01Ah, poor old lady.
SPEAKER_02I know, it's so sad. Like I walked into one uh nursing home, and this lady just walked out, and the nurses were like, You just let her out? I was like, What are you talking about? I mean that woman that just walked, yeah. I held the door for her. She's like, You don't let people out of here. It's like, well, how am I supposed to know? Why'd you let her get close to the door if you knew she was a runner? We put a shot collar on her. What do we do here?
SPEAKER_00That is true. I never thought of a you can't let people out of a 'cause they don't know where we're going.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Dementia and stuff.
SPEAKER_01Freedom!
SPEAKER_02Where am I? No, come back to the place that smells like urine all the time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and stop peeing. So Happy goes to an opening uh party for the tour. There he meets Shooter, who tells Happy to meet him and some guys on a golf course at nine. But it was just a mean trick with sprinklers. Pissy's looking for Shooter and runs it to Virginia, who tells him Shooter is just threatened by him and he should just beat him in golf instead of beating his ass. Uh they make googly eyes of each other, and I believe this is where maybe it's a little later, but there's one part where he just like tells Virginia, Virginia, my girlfriend's dead. She's like, okay.
SPEAKER_02Single. It's a weird way of saying that.
SPEAKER_00So Happy shows up to play. He needs a caddy, so he gets a homeless guy to help him. It was a guy who was cleaning his car earlier. Uh, we meet his first opponent, Gary Potter, who loves his Aurora. Um, and he has just fucking a hilarious monologue. Oh, yeah. A lot of pressure. You gotta rise above it. You gotta harness in the good energy, block out the bad. Harness energy, block bad. Feel the flow happy. Feel it. It's circular. It's like a carousel. You pay the quarter, you get on the horse, it goes up and down and around. It's circular circle with the music, the flow, all the good things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he plays a lot of great characters that are very similar. But I guess they're all they he's in other Happy Madison productions.
SPEAKER_00Yes, a lot pretty much all these people are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but they seem to play like very similar care similar characters too in those movies.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because uh like Alan Corvet is Otto, um uh Joe Flarity is the guy who like yells, Kevin Nielsen is Potter. Um, which Joe Flarity, he's part of like Second City. Um they actually just put on Netflix, Second City TV, SC TV. I watched um I watched an episode of it. You know, a lot of hit, a lot of misses, but like a lot of really funny things, and I could see it being a show that but it's got like Eugene Levy, Martin Short on it. Uh it it kind of fucking rolled. And I was like, Yeah, it's uh it's very old, so you know, but eventually um Catherine O'Hara gets on it, and so does uh just gonna blow John Ghostbusters, the super nerdy one. That's not Aykroyd or Bill Murray, and I'm just I feel so bad I'm blanking on it. Yeah. He's also on it in later seasons. So, anyways, Happy shows up to play, he needs go. We already did all of that. Um, so it's first T off and Happy misses the ball and goes fucking off immediately. Yeah, everybody is appalled until he knocks the shit out of the ball. And like, so when Gary uh Potter did his whole uh speech at the end, Adam Sandler or Happy is like psycho, and then he does this, and Gary's like psycho. Um, but yeah, so every time Happy does something good, he goes wild, like riding a bull. Um the old folks home loves it, and so does the audience in attendance who quit watching shooter and start watching Happy. He's struggling with a putt again, though. You son of a bitch ball. Why didn't you just go home? Go to your home. Did good for your home. And then he throws a flag like a spear. Does he hit a caddy? I know he almost does. So Happy's violent outburst and lack of golf etiquette eventually prompt Doug Thompson, the commissioner of the tour, to expel Happy. Virginia tells Doug Happy's antics are garner garnering the tour's highest television ratings, increasing audience attendance, and drawing more youthful sponsors to help Happy cool down. Uh and then uh Doug's like, hey, you hang out with him, help Happy cool down and start acting more professionally. Virginia is assigned to him now officially. And they'll eventually fall in love. Yeah. And so later at a bar, Shooter starts poking at Happy, and Happy is ready to kill him. He breaks a beer bottle. Luckily for Shooter, Virginia is there, and like he makes a he like eventually is gonna leave. And Shooter goes, just stay out of my way, or you'll pay. Listen to what I say. I just may. What do you say? Now, I mean, come on, that's brilliant. Yeah, it's like a part of me just like I'm like, did somebody actually write that? Or was it after they hear him say that, they're like, Adam Adam Sandler's just like that kind of that weirdly rhyme. Let me come up with something on the side. Oh, it's so good. So Virginia tells him to stop acting up or he will get expelled. He agrees, but says he won't be a stiff. Yeah, but he's got one if you know what I mean. He asks her on a date, but she says she doesn't date golfers. He's like, that's fine, I'm a hockey player.
SPEAKER_02You're in luck.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So and now it's the next day. It's at the next match. Happy Seas. Mr. Larson, who he shot with a nail gun, is actually a fan.
SPEAKER_02Yes. I get the nail out next week.
SPEAKER_00And uh I have a feeling he'll threaten shooter later.
SPEAKER_02And I'll see you in the parking lane.
SPEAKER_00It's like, why do people talk shit so bad to giant people or people that could clearly beat them up? You just shouldn't do it. So Happy begins to develop a cooler head while continuing to improve in tournaments. Um, he even fights the alligator that took Chubb's hand. Much of this regret shooter who can't convince Doug to kick him happy off the tour. So Happy finally gets a date with Virginia. They go to an ice hockey rink. Hey, really giving me there's a movie we covered that's very similar. Ah, Rocky. It's definitely a Rocky representative. It's so good. And then after it, you got the whole the Zamboni guy singing it. It's like that's probably what happened in Rocky too.
SPEAKER_02That was perfect. There's a guy that follows uh it's called the sewer singer, I think, on TikTok. He just goes into sewers and sings. He's he works in the sewer in New York, and he has the most amazing singing voice. Oh he's just like belting it out that's around, and it's so good. People just remind me of this guy. Just a regular Joe with a voice of an angel. Voice of an angel.
SPEAKER_00I like to think he was the one actually singing it. Yeah. So uh at the ice ring, here he tells her about the situation with his grandma. Happy's trying to get a kiss, but makes a bet that she can't make a shot. But if she does make it, Happy tries to get a kiss. He makes a bet. If she misses the shot with the puck, then she has to kiss him. If she makes it, she doesn't have to kiss him. Um, and she completely makes it, but kisses him anyways.
SPEAKER_02Aww. It would have been kind of funny though if he would have just floored her when she tried to.
SPEAKER_00It's like, no. So yeah, they're falling in love. They're gonna be happyly married forever. Shooter decides to take matters into his own hands and hire Donald, a mentally unbalanced fan, to heckle Happy at the next tournament. The Pepsi Pro Am, a tournament where uh tour pros team up with celebrities. So at the tournament, Happy
Mini Golf Training And Chubbs Dies
SPEAKER_00is paired with Bob Barker, then host slash executive producer of the long-running CBS Daytime game show. Amazing. The price is right. Donald immediately starts taunting and distracting him by calling him a happy jack calling Happy a Jackass, taking Happy's focus off the game so much that he plays terribly. Uh, and then like Bob Barker, who's just like done with his poor performance, uh, he begins heckling him before they break into a full-scale brawl.
SPEAKER_02Beat down.
SPEAKER_00The price is wrong, bitch. Um, and yeah, so essentially he fights, he thinks that he like knocked out Bob Barker, but then he was just like messing with him and wakes up and then beats him up. And uh Bob Barker wins.
SPEAKER_02You gotta play the old the old card. Yeah. I'm so old that I could have died. Got you.
SPEAKER_00I had a heart attack. Now I'm gonna kill you. Um, so yeah, as a result, Happy is suspended from the tour and fine $25,000. All is not lost as Happy secures an endorsement deal with Subway. Oh, that's which gives him enough money to back grandma's get back grandma's house and pay the fine. I love it because like they're just at a Subway. And then he's like, like this great Subway sandwich, and she's she's my God, I have an idea. It's a smart idea. Yeah, I can't believe it wouldn't I've thought of that earlier, honestly. Yeah. Someone should have been like, you should get a sponsor. People love you. Yeah. Even though you played in two or three game stops. The commercials are so cheesy. Oh, I love them. I love them. I miss old commercials. Mainly because we used to see them and it wasn't a billion pills. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's all just medicine now.
SPEAKER_01There's some of them that are pretty good.
SPEAKER_00So but just like pills on a sandwich. Mmm, delicious. This will hurt your cholesterol and lower your cholesterol at the same time, depending on what pills you put on it.
SPEAKER_02Side effect could be death.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So Happy discovers that the house is to be sold at an auction, something you did not know before. Despite bidding the entire sum of his endorsement deal, Happy is um outbid by Shooter, who has purchased the house to leverage a deal with Happy. Although it's like I'll burn the house down and piss on the asses. It's like Shooter, you gotta calm down, dude. He might kill you. Um, he will let him have the house back in return for quitting the tournament. This house was his sole reason for entering. Happy immediately agrees, but is dissuaded by Virginia, who tells him that his grandma would rather see him succeed at life than have the house, and that his true talent lies in golfing, not hockey. Happy then decides to make a bet with his rival based on the upcoming tour championship. Happy places higher than shooter, he gets a house back, but if Happy finishes behind Shooter, he will leave the tour. Shooter agrees. This is where Shooter says, I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast. You eat pieces of shit for breakfast, it turns no. You eat pieces of shit for breakfast? So, although Virginia is confident Happy will win, Happy is not as sure and seeks the help of Chubbs. Happy finally admits his own mistakes and agrees to help Chubbs. Like you're more handsome than me. All right, I'll do it. Together they head to the miniature golf course so Happy can improve his putting, which he does.
SPEAKER_02I love mini golf. My wife hates it, so we never get to play it on vacation.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I enjoyed it once mini golf. I do too.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it's all right. It's fun, and then like halfway through, I'm like, how many more rounds?
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it is a little I've never been to a fun one like this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this one's amazing.
SPEAKER_00It's always just been one like which hole do you hit it in to go perfectly to the other one? And it's just like, I don't know, I didn't make it.
SPEAKER_02The fun ones really make or break the whole experience. Like you go to a real shitty one, like those all of the indoor ones I've ever been to have been shitty.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But like one like this where you know you got windmill, an earthquake, clown with a mouth. Yeah, like I've never been to one like that, which is that which would rule. It's got a pigeon forge. Yeah. There's a hundred of them. We did that. That was one of the ones we went into, and it was pretty fun. It would it was like all neon lit lit up and stuff. That's cool. Um, so they go to the miniature golf, um, and he shakes hand with Chubbs and his hand falls off. Uh Chubbs takes Happy to a miniature golf park. He struggles and destroys shit. Um like the first one is uh windmill that he can't seem to line up. The next one's the clown, which just seems like a devious fucking thing. It's like the finally, whenever he makes it after missing it so many times, he spits it out. He's like, You're gonna die, Clown! And destroys it. Then he plays the earthquake hole where he has to ricochet the ball around uh to um like there's like a whole thing. Tower falls, he's got to ricochet it around to make the ball. And then like Chubb's like, go to your happy place.
SPEAKER_02I love his happy place. So it's a pretty darn good happy place.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, at his happy place, you got like Virginia and white lingerie, grandma playing slots, um, little person on tricycle dressed as a cowboy. It's like, why is he dressed as a cowboy?
SPEAKER_02Why is grandma playing slots in her like neglige? I don't know. I guess it's not a negligee. It's like a very fancy like party, a Victorian party dress. Fancy party dress. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So um, yeah, pleased with Happy's progress, Chubbs gives his protege a modified putter fashioned in the shape of a hockey stick as a present for the tournament. I'm like, they would not be able to use that. Really? I don't think so. Right?
SPEAKER_02I mean, essentially according to ten cups, you can just use whatever you got. Like a shovel. I guess. I mean, maybe, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I would just be like, that's a that's bigger than a normal putter. I don't know. Are you allowed to use this? I don't have no idea. Um and then in return, Happy presents Chubb with the head of the alligator that took his hand, which Happy had killed in the previous tournament. Horrified by the sight, Chubbs reels backwards and falls out of an open window to his death. Gator got him again. Yep. Damn Gator. Shooter says he's gonna play for Chubbs, and this pisses Happy off. Turns out Shooter and Happy are gonna be on the same like shoot uh golfing group. I don't know what the how they call it what they call it. Team. No, not they're not on a team, but they team up and they go play together.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they go at the same holes, like yeah, I guess it's to keep everybody at a certain point. Because you can't have like all of them go try to go on the same one. Yeah, you can't have everybody up your butt all the time.
SPEAKER_00Unless you like it.
SPEAKER_02So round applause.
SPEAKER_00Determined to win the tournament for Chubbs, Happy is evenly matched with Shooter after the first two rounds. Shooter is stunned that Happy has been keeping up with him, and by the end of the third day of the tournament, Happy is leading shooter.
SPEAKER_03Look who's crazy.
SPEAKER_00In desperation, shooter once again calls on Donald.
Final Tournament Trick Shot Victory
SPEAKER_00The next day, shooter plans coming into action as Donald hits Happy with a Volkswagen Beetle, which he preserves to ram into a television tower at the 18th hole. It's like, how did he get this far? Somebody being like, there's a madman driving a car.
SPEAKER_02It's like all of us, you will not make this pot chuck ass. Like, that doesn't work. You gotta go harder. Kill him.
SPEAKER_00To insane.
SPEAKER_02It's the only way Shooter's gonna go to Red Lobster with you, buddy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then uh when he gets up, his shoulder's injured, um, but he refuses to forfeit the tournament, but quickly discovers that he lost the ability to hit the long drive and drops from the lead by several shots heading into the final holes and can't even go to his happy place because Shooter is there making out with Virginia and his grandmother in a kiss mask.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's like stuck in the top.
SPEAKER_00I know it's so gross. I love it. Like everybody's in black this time in the previous one. They're on why it's like, oh, it's the bad, it's the bad one. So, how after after applying some lessons from Chubbs and receiving an important moral boost from grandma, he's able to refocus and tie shooter going into the 18th hole after another better, happy place with Chubbs.
SPEAKER_02Uh is it the alligator there too?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like Chubbs is singing this time and he's like great at it. And then we see like during like this whole montage, um the crowd is like they got beach balls and everything. And one hits shooter and he like hits with his golf club and gets stuck. It's so good. So shooter hits his ball and it lands on Larson's foot, and shooter has to hit it off the foot and insults him. Larson says he will see him in the parking lot later. Why would you insult him? Why he could have messed up your shot. Don't you just take a drop pole at that point? Well, so you don't they just did yeah, obviously. Right. They just did it so they could have forced Happy to do his little thing.
SPEAKER_02So um, I had to hit it off of what did he call it? Frankenstein's foot.
SPEAKER_00Uh so aftershooter uh makes his shot for Parr. The TV tower collapses after people climb it to watch the game and blocks Happy's putt for Birdie. Happy is forced to take his shot with the tower in the way, and once again he uses what Chubbs taught him to make a trick shot to win the tour championship and the house. Yes, it's great. Wonderful shot. He hits it, it goes up some pipes and shit. Everybody's watching it. Everybody's watching like it's tennis, and it's brilliant. And I get really happy by Oh, that's so good. And then afterwards, a hysterical shooter attempts to steal Happy's gold jacket, but is quickly beaten up by Happy's old boss, Mr. Larson, and an angry mob. I know, he's just like and you know it's like he's probably like we could probably run uh circles around him and be ahead of him while running with how he's right.
SPEAKER_02You will not stop this man.
SPEAKER_00I just gotta like slightly push him and probably fall over. Um, so yeah, um the film closes with Happy getting his grandma's house back, Virginia's hand, and being congratulated by the two hand ghosts of Chubbs, Abraham Lincoln and the alligator. The uh so what's wild about this is man, when it gets to the end of this movie, and like you know, you kind of got the music swelling a little bit, and then like he's all happy and everybody's happy. I'm kind of like, fuck. Yeah, I feel really happy right now.
SPEAKER_02It makes everyone happy.
SPEAKER_00I'm just like the fucking sports movie of it all kills me at the end. Still, it's like it doesn't matter. You give me an underdog sports story, I'm probably gonna get a little sad and happy at the end.
SPEAKER_02Oh, they're great.
SPEAKER_00So, Jason, I think the point of this movie is that with a little help of some friends, you like a golf ball, can go home. Yeah, it's just a fun movie.
SPEAKER_02It was no real point, other than just, you know. Just the movie. You just gotta grow up and try different things to find out what you're want to find what you're good at.
SPEAKER_00You gotta grow up, you know, learn to fight your demons.
SPEAKER_02Learn to play professional golf and you'll be okay.
SPEAKER_00Oh well, until Happy Gilmore 2, where we think you'd live a happily ever after life. Um, you win a bunch of money from golf and you retire and have a good life with some kids. Not what happened in the Happy Gilmore 2. Um, so we're gonna move to our next category: the good, the bad, the ugly, the fine. It's where we discuss
The Good Bad Ugly Fine Ratings
SPEAKER_00the good of the film, something we like, the bad, something we didn't like, the ugly, something that didn't age well, the fine, something that did age well. I put for the good, the whole cast. Fantastic.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, cast is fantastic.
SPEAKER_00That's something that's so amazing in all these movies, especially for the 90s movies with Adam Sandler. The cast just brings it every time. Yeah. All the way up until like 50 first dates. I feel like everybody's trying 100% throughout the movie. What happened with that one? No, like that's like one of the last ones, yeah. So I love that one. That one's got uh shit, uh uh Samwise in it. Uh Sean remember his last name, but he's so funny, he's got a list, works out all the time. It's so funny.
SPEAKER_02Um, he he kind of brings these movies kind of bring down the best of people, it seems like. Yeah, I feel like that's his whole shtick, is like these people are really good people and they're just quirky. Yeah. But they have good hearts.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's just kind of like, oh, you know, you got some weirdos that all find each other and like each other.
SPEAKER_02What makes a happy Madison production?
SPEAKER_00Um, so for the bad, I mean I don't know. Not that movies like lean and too quick and too funny, just the way I like it. Yeah, it's not a lot to say that's bad, but yeah. Uh for the ugly, I mean not too bad. I'm sure there's some jokes that people might be sensitive to, but not as bad as some of his other ones. Right.
SPEAKER_02I think what's the ugliest part to me is just like the nursing homes are so bad. Like most of them. Even the what the one she goes to is pretty nice. Yeah, I mean, it looks nice, uh, except for the you know the the sweatshop.
SPEAKER_00The fact that she works for Hitler. Um yeah, for the fine, something that aged well, uh, Sandler and Julie Bowen. Julie Bowen's great. Uh modern family, she's hilarious in. Oh gosh, she's so good. And like she's like, I love watching the Halloween episodes during Halloween season because she's so intense about Halloween. That's great. That show is fantastic. I spent so much time just being like, like, what is this show? I'm never gonna watch it. And then I finally put it on as like, oh, this movie is the best. What'd you have that aged well?
SPEAKER_02Uh I don't know. I I I feel like Happy Madison movies haven't really aged that well. Yeah. Uh, but I do still enjoy the characters in a lot of the ways.
SPEAKER_00I mean, like, you know, some of the recent ones haven't been super bad. Like, I liked uh Huey Halloween enough. Yes, that one's funny and simple. It's the grandma with the shirts, hilarious. Adam Sandler screaming all the time.
SPEAKER_02Always got like a the canteen full of soup.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And then like uh Tim Meadows would be like Tim Meadows and Myra Rudolph. There's their scenes are so good. I love it. Just like because like Tim Meadows would try to act like a like, yeah, I'm a man, and she'd be like, really? Sure about that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Maya Rudolph is she is so she's so pretty. She's one of the funniest people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's insane. Um so yeah, we're gonna hit our next count category.
Double Feature Picks And Next Week Tease
SPEAKER_00It's where we recommend a movie that to go alongside this movie. Jason, what'd you pick?
SPEAKER_02Well, I don't know about a movie, but lately I just started watching The Hawk with Will Farrell. Oh, how is it? It's pretty funny. Is it it's pretty funny? It's kind I've only watched the first episode, but I can kind of feel like I'm gonna enjoy it. Yeah. Because um watch the comedian uh can't remember her name, but she's so good at it. And uh like I love Fortune Feinstein Feinstein? I think is her name.
SPEAKER_00Oh, Fortune. Love Fortune, she's so funny.
SPEAKER_02She's really good in it so far, so like I just can't wait to keep watching it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh, she like we watched um, you know, usually if there's like a game show that says celebrity something, we always watch it to like celebrity or like Hollywood Square, she's been on it, she's always so funny. Anytime she shows up on one of those shows, I'm like, we gotta start watching her stand up. She's so funny.
SPEAKER_02Her stand-ups are good, but like in The Hawk, it's kind of a lot like Happy Gilmore in a lot of ways. Yeah, he's just he's kind of like a a grown-up Happy Gilmore because his caddy is like a famous black actor that he spoiler, he dies. But like just like this guy. Damn it, it really is Happy Gilmore, huh? And he's just like he's so good at golf, but he's also like just a fucking train wreck.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that sounds like Will Farrell. Very like semi-pro almost Tyler Dagonites type stuff. Um, I chose the movie, a movie growing up, I absolutely 100% loved so much. It's called The Replacements. Nice football movie with Keanu Ruiz, Gene Hackman. Uh, it's just essentially all the main players go on strike. Uh these guys uh are the replacement players. Um it's got uh Pam's ex-boyfriend in it from The Office, Orlando Jones is hilarious, phase on Love. I don't know. It's just got a bunch of John Favros in it. I don't know. It's just man, it is wild how stacked this cast is. Um it's a weird movie, especially when you think about the fact that essentially we were talking about crossing picket lines, and that's essentially what this is.
