August 7 – Day 219. Pray for great work

Welcome to another episode of our EBC Prayer Podcast. Our scripture will be taken from John 14:12. And it reads, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” 

It’s remarkable to see the wonderful things that God can do for those who have faith, hope, and comfort in times of need. The Lord is reminding us that all is possible because he is returning to his Father, which opens the door for us to experience and participate in a deeper connection to the power he represents.

As we pray, let us ask the Lord for the great work he has in store for us.

Dear Heavenly Father. Our Lord, God, and Savior. Father, we come before you with our hearts bowed in gratitude, reverence, and love. Lord, thank you for the gift of life, for the strength to rise this morning, and for the mercy that greets us anew with each day. You are holy, you are sovereign, and you are inviting us into your presence, not as strangers, but as beloved children. Lord, we are humbled and overwhelmed with joy.

Father, we remember the powerful promise you gave us through your Son, Jesus Christ, who said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father.” 

Lord, what an extraordinary promise. It stretches beyond what we can fully comprehend, and we cling to it because your Word is faithful and true. Too often, we live beneath the weight of doubt, fear, or feelings of inadequacy. We look at our own limitations instead of fixing our eyes on you. But today, in this prayer, help us to lay our limitations down at your feet. Help us to acknowledge that it is not by our power, not by our wisdom, and not by our might that your work is accomplished; it is by your spirit. Through the indwelling presence of the holy spirit, you enable us to walk in purpose, to reflect your light, and to touch lives in ways we never thought possible.

Father, open our hearts more fully to your calling. Teach us to believe with boldness and active faith that we are vessels of your love and instruments of your peace. Teach us to step forward with courage, not to decrease backward when the path looks uncertain, but to remember that you go before us. You are the lamp to our feet and the light to our path.

Lord, thank you for reminding us that if we place our faith in you, the remarkable works that you perform, we too shall undertake. Lord, show us where you desire for us to labor and which souls you wish for us to reach out to. Instill in us a deep compassion for the brokenhearted, allowing us to feel their pain and lift them up in love. Grant us unyielding patience with those who are struggling. As we navigate the winding and sometimes difficult roads ahead, give us the endurance to keep moving forward. Equip us to never grow weary of doing good, for you have promised that in due season we will reap a bountiful harvest if we remain steadfast and do not lose heart.

Lord, we are rejoicing in our prayer for the promise that through our faith in you, the works you accomplish can flow through us as well. You are revealing the labor you have set before us. You are leading us to those whose lives we are meant to touch and transform. Instill within us a deep compassion for the brokenhearted, allowing us to understand their pain and offer them support. Grant us the patience to walk alongside those who struggle, supporting them with understanding that they are navigating their challenges. Lord, strengthen us with endurance when the road feels long and overwhelming. Help us to find strength in our commitment, never grow weary in the pursuit of doing good for others.

Father, remind us of the greater works that we shall do, because you are healing the sick, comforting the afflicted, lifting the poor, forgiving the sinner, and restoring the lost. Empower us to walk in those same works, not in pride, but in humility, always pointing back to you as the source of all goodness. Lord, when you call us to do even greater works, remind us that those works are greater not because of us, but because you live within us, and because you are still writing your story of redemption through our lives.

Father, we bring before you the burdens on our hearts. Our communities, our families, and our world. Let our words be seasoned with grace, and our actions speak louder than any sermon, pointing others back to you. Lord, help us to abide in you. For with you, there is no limit to what you can accomplish through us. Purify our motives.
