Welcome to the InAllWisdom Podcast,
A daily podcast dedicated to wisdom for life.
I am Jim Donnelly, your host.

Today’s podcast is from Job chapter three.

After It Was So

 is the title.

Stay tuned for this episode about wisdom for life.

I have completed a commentary on
The book of Ecclesiastes, all 222 verses.
My book title is:
Ecclesiastes Amplified: A Collection of Wise Words
We have set the publication date for 2026.

In the meantime, I am working on
the book of Job,
all forty-two chapters, all 1070 verses.

My book title prompts
a different approach to understanding
the book of Job:

My book title is:
Job Is A True Story–Well Written Well Spoken

Subtitled: A True Story About Our Mighty God - Who Has Chosen Not to Distance Himself From Human Suffering, But To Be Part Of It.

Job is forty-two chapters long. A daily podcast will allow me to read through the entire book of Job every six weeks.

I started this method of reading and commenting two days ago, on November 1, 2025.

Each daily podcast will start with a reading from a chapter in the book of Job.

I am taking this trek through Job

for you and with you.

Because most people on planet Earth have never heard the true story of Job.

Reading a chapter a day will help them.

It will also help many of you

who know the book of Job

but have never read it all.

When you are reading along in the book of Job;

it is often very hard to figure out who is speaking.

And who is the target of the conversation.

It is still harder sometimes to understand what they said.

Last.

For each month of this podcast, I will choose a different version of the English Bible from which to read.

This method will help all of us

to better understand

what has been written for us.

Today’s podcast title is:

When you are tested, know that the Lord He is God, and He cares for you!

Allow me first to read Job chapter 4. It is twenty-one verses long.

Because of the difficulty of translating and understanding the text, I have ordered this chapter in a certain way.

I have added spacing to separate what I think are appropriate dividers in this first speech of Job.

This month, November 2025, I am reading from The Legacy Standard Bible.

The Book of JOB    Chapter Four

          1       Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
               2       “If one tries a word with you, will you become weary?
         But who can hold back from speaking?
               3       “Behold, you have disciplined many,
         And you have strengthened limp hands.
               4       “Your words have helped the stumbling to stand,
         And you have encouraged feeble knees.
               5       “But now it has come to you, and you are impatient;
         It touches you, and you are dismayed.
               6       “Is not your afear of God your confidence,
         And the integrity of your ways your hope?

          7       “Remember now, who ever perished being innocent?
         Or where were the upright wiped out?
               8       “According to what I have seen, those who plow wickedness
         And those who sow trouble harvest it.
               9       “By the breath of God they perish,
         And by the wind of His anger they come to an end.
               10       “The roaring of the lion and the voice of the fierce lion,
         And the teeth of the young lions are broken.
               11       “The lion perishes for lack of prey,
         And the whelps of the lioness are scattered.

          12       “Now a word was brought to me stealthily,
         And my ear received a whisper of it.
               13       “Amid disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night,
         When deep sleep falls on men,
               14       Dread came upon me, and trembling,
         And made the multitude of my bones shake in dread.
               15       “Then a spirit swept by my face;
         The hair of my flesh bristled up.
               16       “It stood still, but I could not recognize its appearance;
         A form was before my eyes;
         There was silence, then I heard a voice:
               17       ‘Can mankind be right before God?
         Can a man be pure before his Maker?
               18       ‘He puts no trust even in His slaves;
         And against His angels He charges error.
               19       ‘How much more those who dwell in houses of clay,
         Whose foundation is in the dust,
         Who are crushed before the moth!
               20       ‘Between morning and evening they are broken in pieces;
         Unobserved, they perish forever.
               21       ‘Is not their tent-cord pulled up within them?
         They die, yet without wisdom.’

Again, today’s podcast is from Job chapter four verse two. Titled:

When you are tested, know that the Lord He is God, and He cares for you!

What is the background for “testing”?

For the original readers and hearers, the background pans into view by reading or hearing the Hebrew word translated “tested” or “ventures”. Both words convey the activity of “testing”.

This is the backdrop the writer of Job intended; it is from the writings of Moses, I quote:

        “Has any people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard it, and survived? Or has a god tried to go to take for himself a nation from within another nation by trials, by signs and wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, as the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? To you it was shown that you might know that the Lord, He is God; there is no other besides Him.” (Deuteronomy 4:32-35).

When our faith in God alone is tested, we soon learn that

“weariness”, “being afraid”, or “experiencing panic” becomes part of our lives. This sometimes-long process of “Testing” produces “weariness”; and “fearfulness”. Sometimes, “Panic” moves into our home; or shows up at work; or enters at some point in a relationship or a career; and all of a sudden, we are overwhelmed with it.

Here is my translation that brings these responses together: “If one tests a word with you, will you become weary? … But now it has come to you, and you are weary; it touches you, and you are panicked.” (see Job 4:2, 5).

When, not if, you are “tested” take heart and know that He is God, who parted the Sea, who journeyed with His people, all 2 million of them through the wilderness for forty years; He says: “I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandal has not worn out on your foot. You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or strong drink, in order that you might know that I am the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 29:5-6, NASB).

God can take care of you and yours. He is able to do all things.

I often have said: ‘Gods work in our lives is past finding out. He just makes things happen, often when we least expect it. And most often when we least deserve it. And many times, just after we utter the shortest prayer ever: “Help!”.

We can pray this short prayer “Help!” when we are wearied, fearful, and totally exhausted. And He will answer. I know this is true, because I have prayed that shortest prayer ever, with the faintest whisper ‘help!’, and sometimes immediately I am helped by a loving Father in heaven who cares for me.

Here’s how we are encouraged to respond to “testing”: “Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NASB).

 There is so much more in these initial verses of Job chapter 4.

My daily Podcast will pick up and extend this conversation, in days to come, by considering more completely the first section of Job chapter four, before moving on to the rest of the chapter.

We have come to the end of today’s InAllWisdom Podcast. A daily podcast dedicated to wisdom for life.
