 Welcome to the InAllWisdom Podcast,

A Daily Podcast dedicated to wisdom for life.

I am Jim Donnelly, your host.

Stay tuned to this episode about wisdom for life.

Titled: My Eye Has Seen Everything”

I have completed a commentary on

The book of Ecclesiastes, all 222 verses.

My book title is:

Ecclesiastes Amplified: A Collection of Wise Words

We have set the publication date for 2025.

In the meantime, I am working on

the book of Job,

all forty-two chapters, all 1070 verses.

My book title prompts

a different approach to understanding

the book of Job:

My book title is:

The True Story of Job:

Subtitled: Well Written

Job is forty-two chapters long. A daily Podcast will allow me to read through the entire book of Job every month. Some days I will read connecting chapters, because they belong together. And a nice surprise is that each day of the month whether the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 16th will represent a chapter in Job. So, on the 25th of any month, you can expect a Podcast on Job chapter 25.

So, each Podcast will start with a reading from a chapter in the book of Job. I am taking this trek through Job for you and with you. Because most people on planet earth have never heard the true story of Job.

Reading a chapter a day, will help them. It will also help many of you who know the book of Job but have never read it all. When reading along in the book of Job it is often very hard to figure out who is speaking, and harder still sometimes, to understand what they said.

Lastly, for each month of this Podcast I will choose a different version of the English Bible from which to read. This method will help us all to understand better what has been written for us.

Today’s Podcast is from Job Chapter 13:1

The title: My Eye Has Seen Everything

[change]The background of “Falling Down” involves two significant Events. The first is the Lord’s visit to the building site of the Tower of Babel, a time prior to the Patriarchs of 2100 BC. The second is the Lord’s presence and activity during the Prophetic Events that took place on the Plains of Moab in 1400 BC.

Stay tuned to this podcast; we are just getting started in Job chapter six, another pivotal chapter in the book of Job.

Allow me first to read Job chapter 13. It is 28 verses long.

Today I am reading from The New Jerusalem Bible.

The Book of JOB    Chapter Thirteen

I have seen all this with my own eyes, heard with my own ears and understood. 2 Whatever you know, I know too; I am in no way inferior to you. 3 But my words are intended for Shaddai; I mean to remonstrate with God. 4 As for you, you are only charlatans, all worthless as doctors! 5 Will no one teach you to be quiet—the only wisdom that becomes you! 6 Kindly listen to my accusation and give your attention to the way I shall plead. 7 Do you mean to defend God by prevarication and by dishonest argument, 8 and, taking his side like this, appoint yourselves as his advocates? 9 How would you fare, if he were to scrutinise you? Can he be duped as mortals are duped? 10 He would inflict a harsh rebuke on you for your covert partiality. 11 Does his majesty not affright you? Does his terror not overcome you? 12 Your received ideas are maxims of ash, your retorts, retorts of clay. 13 Be quiet! Kindly let me do the talking, happen to me what may. 14 I am putting my flesh between my teeth, I am taking my life in my hands; 15 let him kill me if he will; I have no other hope than to justify my conduct in his eyes. 16 And this is what will save me, for the wicked would not dare to appear before him. 17 Listen carefully to my words, and pay attention to what I am going to say. 18 You see, I shall proceed by form of law, knowing that I am upright. 19 Who wants to contest my case? In advance, I agree to be silenced and to die! 20 Only grant me two concessions, and then I shall not hide away from your face: 21 remove your hand, which lies so heavy on me, no longer make me cower from your terror. 22 Then call me forward and I shall answer, or rather, I shall speak and you will answer. 23 How many faults and crimes have I committed? Tell me what my misdeed has been, what my sin? 24 Why do you hide your face and look on me as your enemy? 25 Do you want to intimidate a wind-blown leaf, do you want to pursue a dry straw? 26 You who lay bitter allegations against me and tax me with the faults of my youth 27 and have put my feet in the stocks; you examine my every step and measure my footprints one by one! 28 For his part, he crumbles away like rotten wood, or like a moth-eaten garment.”

The New Jerusalem Bible (Job 13:1-28). (1985). Doubleday.

And now, for today’s Podcast titled:

My Eye Has Seen Everything – Job 13:1

“All things allows no exception”[1] The background setting of this statement is the same as Job 12:2-3. Listen to the prior podcast: “Falling Down with Eyes Open”.

This flashback is repeated for a reason. Listen up! This is important, Job 13 begins with this prophetic event: about “The oracle of the man whose eye is opened; who hears the words of God; who sees the vision of the Almighty; then prophesies.” (see, Numbers 24:4-9; 15-19).

“The man” is better translated “The valiant one”. If Bruce Waltke is right “All things allows no exception”; then there is only one “Valiant Man” that qualifies.

Further, it is interesting, that Balaam said “What Yahweh speaks that I will speak” (see, Numbers 24:13).

I leave you wondering. That is a good thing. We have a long way to go in the book of Job. These things need to be nailed down so that we understand them with clarity of thought, so we can continue our journey in life being enlightened from above, with open eyes and heart to Him who does not distance Himself from human suffering.
