The caller indicated that she had discovered a six-month male who she was doing daycare for was bleeding from the head and uh was unresponsive.

And thanks for being here. I'm Cassie and this is a Wicked World. If you haven't signed up to be a member of the channel yet, and you want to have access to three exclusive videos each month and more, then make sure you sign up today. Now the story I have for you today is about a six-month-old baby boy who was killed by the most unlikely suspect, a 10-year-old little girl. This is the story of Jackson Hunter. Jackson Robert Hunter was born on April 6th, 2018, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to his mother, Stephanie Hunter, and his father, Nathan Lydell. Jackson was said to be a happy, smiley, and bubbly baby. He was almost never fussy and loved to wiggle and move around. Jackson greatly enjoyed watching the NFL football team, the Vikings, play on TV every Sunday with his dad. The little boy also had an older sister, whom he adored being around. Nathan and Stephanie broke up part way through her pregnancy with Jackson. Once he was born, Stephanie had primary custody, and Nathan saw his son one day each week. Though the father was said to have been working to get further visitation with him. A woman named Amber Sweeney ran the business out of her and her husband Dan's home. Now Amber was licensed to watch up to eight children at a time, which included her foster children, because she and Dan were licensed foster parents too. Then on October 30th, 2018, Amber placed a call to 911, saying that six-month-old Jackson was unresponsive and bleeding from the head. He was immediately rushed to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin. But as his condition continued to decline, the infant was lifelighted to Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he would sadly be pronounced dead a few days later. On November 1st, 2018, at 7 58 p.m.

SPEAKER_06

And he don't want anybody to be hurt, but he's selfishly thinking inside he especially don't want it to be your your own child.

SPEAKER_03

But it was.

AF had instructed the other children to go back inside the house, and that's when Jackson's injuries were discovered. Backing up the young girl's story was the fact that the prints on Jackson's head perfectly matched her sneaker prints. So ten-year-old AF was placed under arrest, and she was charged as an adult with first-degree intentional homicide. Her bond was set at $50,000. Amber, the owner of the daycare, was never charged in relation to Jackson's death. She told police that she hadn't seen the attack occur and had no idea that AF had gone inside. When the little girl went back outside following the incident, she said nothing to Amber about it. During AF's first court hearing, she was led into the room handcuffed and with her biological mother by her side. At one point, she was also seen coloring a unicorn picture. AF would be ruled unfit to stand trial, and she was then held at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.

SPEAKER_06

As opposed to seeing it as a as a 10-year-old girl, I seen it as the the person who killed my son. And she, in my opinion, deserved to be in shackles or handcuffs. She's a criminal.

SPEAKER_03

He watched the girl sob as she was led away in handcuffs with one goal in mind, to make her see him.

SPEAKER_06

I I'm convinced I did. And I know that she knows that she did too, because it was a it was a split second, and then she buried her head back into her dad's shoulder.

SPEAKER_04

Now the little girl had been in Amber's care for about a year at that point. AF and her siblings were removed from their biological parents' care in September of 2017 due to their drug use, abuse, and neglect of the children. At that time, caseworker Matt Anderson was put in charge of the little girl's case, and he reported that she had some serious behavioral issues. This included intense temper tantrums that made her become physically aggressive with her parents. She had also been known to pinch and hit her younger brothers. AF was said to have tried to run away from home several times, too. Her caseworker believed that this was just typical behavior of a child who had experienced abuse and neglect. He noted that most of her behavior was isolated to her home life. So he believed the problems were caused by the chaos of her home and her unstable relationship with her parents. Then in April of 2018, AF was placed back with her biological parents after spending several months in foster care. That August, the little girl's biological mother voluntarily committed her to a psychiatric facility because she had been self-harming. She had superficial cuts on her wrists and in between her fingers. The little girl also told her parents that she had been SA'd by another child who lived in the neighborhood. This child continued bothering AF following the assault. So she in turn hit and punched him. According to AF's biological father, she quote, beat the shit out of the other child. At the end of August, once she was released from the hospital, AF was placed back into foster care. This time with Amber and Dan Sweeney, and the placement was just for a few days. She was then sent back to live with her biological parents again. That didn't last long, however, because on September 19, 2018, AF was discovered to have bruises on her arms and was believed to be the victim of CA. Her father, however, claimed that the bruises were just from trying to hold her back because she was attempting to run away again. After that, the 10-year-old was sent back to live with the Sweeneys, even though she requested to go to a different foster home, one that had less children. This placement was approved by an emergency order because AF was said to have become physically aggressive with her parents and siblings. She was also engaging in behaviors that were a danger to her own safety, like running away. The 10-year-old was also said to have carved the word death into her arm. But during AF's stay with Amber and Dan, they said they didn't notice any of her behavioral issues. The young girl even attended therapy while in their care and told the therapist that she was not homicidal or suicidal. However, the foster parents claimed that they had never been informed about the young girl's history. Jackson's mother Stephanie had met AF in the past, and she thought that everything was fine. She noticed that the young girl did a good job holding her son, and liked to play with him too. AF's mother spoke publicly, and she said that her daughter told her Jackson's death was just an accident, and she believed her. She also said that the public perceives her daughter as a monster, but she's not. Rather, the young girl is, quote, beautiful, intelligent, and smart, and one day dreams of becoming a doctor to help people.

SPEAKER_02

It's not what it seems. There is no way that it was done in any any type of intentional way. Do you remember anything she said to you? That it was just it was an accident. And you know what? I believe my daughter. At 10, your brain can't process half the stuff that me or you or anybody else can.

SPEAKER_04

The mother claimed she had tried to get AF help in the past because she had been suicidal, but was turned down due to her age. Jackson's father Nathan, on the other hand, said that he believes that although the incident may have begun as an accident when the young girl dropped his son, it quickly changed to something more when she began to stomp on Jackson. Nathan stated, she may not have gone in with the purpose of murdering him, but she had the ability to prevent further irreparable damage and didn't. You also don't accidentally proceed to put him back in the crib, cover him up as though nothing ever happened, leave him brutally injured, and go back to playing outside. In January of 2019, AF's attorneys tried to get her case dismissed, arguing that her brain wasn't fully developed and that she failed to meet the state's requirements for first-degree homicide. They argued that the charge required the defendant to show a disregard for human life, which they claimed AF did not show. Her defense insisted that she had only stomped on Jackson's head once, not repeatedly, even though the autopsy showed she had done it seven times. The judge ultimately rejected the motion to dismiss, saying that it was hard to believe that any 10-year-old would not understand how dangerous of a thing that was to do. In a past interview with authorities, the girl had also said that she knew more than one blow would kill Jackson. Soon after, AF's case was sent to juvenile court, and she would then be found not competent to stand trial. However, it was said that if she took her medication and completed the required classes, she would likely be found competent in the future.

SPEAKER_00

The judge also appointed a guardian ad lightum for the girl after her lawyers argued her capacity to make some decisions is somewhat diminished. Last month, the girl was found not competent to stand trial. She was also found not competent during a hearing back in March. The girl was at an adult facility in Winnebago, but Judge Peterson today approved her to move to a secured juvenile detention center in Eau Claire. Prosecutors also asked for the return of infant Jackson's body. The defense replied they still have two experts who are examining it.

SPEAKER_04

However, Jackson's father, Nathan, said online that AF was sentenced in relation to his son's death. But she has repeatedly evaded the consequences. In August of 2023, she was declared absent without leave from an unknown facility. This was just two months after she had been released from a juvenile facility. She was then found, but ran away again in November of 2024. And according to Nathan, she's remained missing ever since. The father said he's been told nothing further, and the system that promised accountability has failed to act on it. In 2020, Jackson's parents filed a lawsuit against the Chippewa County Department of Human Services, as well as AF's caseworker Matthew Anderson, and several others. The parents believe that these government officials were the ones responsible for placing the 10-year-old with the Sweeneys, therefore depriving Jackson of his rights. That would mean losing a lot of money for them. Therefore, in March of 2022, a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit, saying that there was no indications that the girl was violent or a risk to the other children at the daycare. He also said that it wasn't foreseeable that the foster mother would leave the girl unsupervised. Or that the girl would accidentally drop Jackson, then stomp on him. Jackson's father Nathan said he's frustrated and disappointed by the outcome, and likely plans to appeal. Nathan has created a nonprofit in memory of his son called Win for Jacks, which helps child victims of crimes get memorials or monuments in their honor. Jackson's celebration of life was held on November 10th, 2018, at the Haran Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Thank you for listening to Jackson's story today. This is such a sad case. A six-month-old little boy dead, and a ten-year-old little girl from a broken home with some serious issues was the one responsible. I can't even imagine how frustrated Jackson's family must be, knowing that this little girl isn't even being punished for what she did. How do you feel about this case?
