Ep. 134 Today's Peep Prepares for an Irish Adventure, Delights with CVS Antics, Anticipates the Rams Opener from Abroad, Expands Podcast Reach to Radio with Star-Studded Interviews, and Celebrates Concert Plans from Dwight Yoakam to The Cult

Pat Walsh

Ever wondered how a work trip to Ireland could transform into an exciting podcast episode? Join me as I share my bubbling excitement for my upcoming journey to the Emerald Isle, reflecting on how our beloved Pat's Peeps Podcast first sprouted during a memorable trip to Italy and has since flourished. I’ll take you through the nitty-gritty of packing and reminisce about past European adventures, all while contrasting the sunny climes of Northern California with Ireland's cooler weather. This episode is all about growth, adventure, and a few practical travel tips sprinkled in for good measure.

Who knew a trip to CVS could be so entertaining? Picture this: an elderly gentleman loudly fibbing about being at the gym while standing right behind me, and an impromptu "Marco-Polo" exchange that turned my mundane errand into a memorable escapade. Amid these amusing anecdotes, I also touch on the excitement of the NFL season kickoff, specifically the thrilling Thursday night game between the Ravens and the defending champions. These light-hearted stories are sure to bring a smile to your face as I prepare for my big trip.

Rams fans, this one's for you! My dedication to the Rams knows no bounds, as I share my plans to catch the season opener from Ireland, despite the time difference. But that's not all—our podcast's reach is expanding to terrestrial radio, featuring interviews with Mickey Dolenz and Congressman Doug LaMalfa. Plus, I reveal my concert plans, from Dwight Yoakam to the Arctic Monkeys and The Cult. This episode is a vibrant mix of football fervor, musical excitement, and heartfelt reflections on balancing personal dreams with responsibilities. Tune in for a journey of self-discovery, gratitude, and upcoming adventures!

Speaker 1:

jumping right in here. It is the pats peeps podcast number. What are we at? 100 and 134. I was hoping to get to 135 before my departure date, which is now tomorrow. So unless I do another podcast after this, I'm going to fall one short.

Speaker 1:

I was just checking the numbers, by the way, I rarely do that, I was just checking the numbers and I'm so grateful that so many more of you are now listening to the podcast. You know it takes a little time to grow. That's awesome, that's great. Listening to the podcast you know it takes a little time to grow, that's awesome, that's great Makes me very, very happy. It was unbelievably just what I say unbelievably because I cannot believe that this is my third trip to Europe this year and these are work-related trips. You know I'm still working while I'm on these trips. Of course we have a good time, but I am the host.

Speaker 1:

But I announced Pat's Peeps, the podcast and the business, which there's really great news on all fronts. But I announced that on our first trip to Italy, we went to northern Italy and that was during last Halloween time into early November, and I mentioned on the coach, as we were traveling, to 52 of the peeps that this is going to be a new business. Pat's Peeps and they were on the conservative tourist trip and we announced it. And now here we are. Another trip, this time went to southern Italy and then back in April of this year. And now here we are again. This time we're southern Italy and then back in April of this year. And now here we are again. This time we're going to Ireland, my heritage, where a lot of my family comes from, like County Cork.

Speaker 1:

So anyhow, that's tomorrow. So it's surreal to me that I'm doing this, but what does it mean? It means that things are going well and I'm getting calls from people on a daily basis, which makes me so incredibly happy. I'm telling you today I got a call yesterday, day before that, and these are all businesses that want to be Pat's Peeps businesses. We want to set up the advertising for you. But, oh my gosh, I have so many people that are local businesses that are really excited about what we're going to be doing for businesses. Oh my gosh, I am so thrilled. Anyhow, I've already jumped into it. I haven't even mentioned that today happens to be September the 4th and this is 2024. And as I peer out my today, I'm peering. I don't know why I'm peering Out my studio windows in the beautiful foothills of Northern California. Hey, there goes a nice RV, a little motorhome, driving by.

Speaker 2:

It's hot out again.

Speaker 1:

I guess we're going into some kind of another heat spell here. But you know what? How about this? I'll be in cool Ireland. I was checking the temps, like the average temps in September in Ireland. It said the average temperature is about 59 degrees. So if you're in Northern California, if you're in California and you're going to be dealing with a heat, I'll be thinking about you. Isn't that comforting to know. I'll think about you while I'm over there cooling off in Ireland.

Speaker 1:

I remember on our trip to Germany a couple of years ago, we went to Germany, we went to Austria with conservative tours, one of Pat's peeps businesses and we. I remember I was getting a lot of messages from people back home, northern California, saying that geez, it's like record-breaking temperatures. That's 115. I don't think it really got to 117. I had someone send me a text saying that. I doubted that. But you know, you never know I wasn't here. But the fact is I remember at that time we were on the Autobahn in Germany and it was raining and cool out and back home, you know, hot scorching. So we're not out of the woods yet in terms of the heat. You never know. We're in September, you know, maybe October in terms of the heat. You never know. We're in September, you know, maybe October, obviously I think it'll be hot again, but whatever. But I'll be in Ireland experiencing the cold weather, at least according to what I Googled on the weather forecast for Ireland this time of year. So I'm getting ready.

Speaker 1:

Today was the day that I you know I do this kind of in a process. I don't know if I'm doing it the right way. I guess everyone has their own way of doing it. I probably searched for my passport 500 times to know right, exactly where it is. I don't lose it. You got to go get your Euros. I've kind of learned about that. I kind of learned about that as well. You know there was some pickpocketing. I'm not going to say in Ireland, but you know, if you go traveling you just have to be aware of that kind of stuff. But I'm getting ready.

Speaker 1:

So you, one day you don't want to do it too soon, you know you lay out your clothes, don't want to take too many, because you don't want to overstuff your bag, because you don't want to pay the extra, you know, for the baggage when you go to the airport, then you have to consider do you have enough clothes, then you have to consider are you bringing clothes that you don't necessarily have to iron? You don't want to bring linen because linen will crinkle, which I don't own anything linen, I was just thinking about linen. I wouldn't be caught dead in linen. I have no linen. I'm just saying, like you can bring clothes that are they still call it permanent press? No, pat, this is in 1971. I don't know what that is. Anyhow, bring things that perhaps will not wrinkle as much. That's one thing I learned.

Speaker 1:

But there's just a variety of things that after you've been over there a couple of times or a few times, you kind of pick up on so I'm getting ready, get all the electronics ready. You have to remember, over in these other countries it's a different phone charger, so you have to get an adapter for this stuff or else you will be frustrated. I can tell you that. And what's up with the half showers when you get over there? I don't know what they're doing in Europe, but they have these half showers. What do I mean by that? Well, what I mean is there's showers at the hotels. You know like in America, you go into your shower. There's showers at the hotels. You know like in America. You go into your shower, you have enough of a shower door to you know, close off the shower, so water isn't flying all over the bathroom. Not in Europe. Only two places have I been in, five trips now. Well, this will be my fifth where I've had a hotel where they actually had enough coverage for the shower. The rest of the time it's one piece of glass instead of the two which would cover the end of the shower.

Speaker 1:

But here's what I think they're doing. This is just my theory because I can't think of any other reason. And, by the way, dangerous. Some of these places, like in Rome, the floor is like beautiful tile or marble or whatever it is, and it's covered in water because they have a half shower door. You know you step out of that under that marble zip. You might go down Anyhow.

Speaker 1:

Lovely hotels, I'm certainly not saying anything bad against them. I'm just wondering aloud. But I'm convinced that maybe they do that. Because then what happens? Then you have to. You know all there's those towels and and and dish and not dish, but the face, face towels and the towels in the bathroom, and so when you, the floor is covered from the shower and you got've got to put the towels down. So I think that's the hotel's way of ensuring that we are mopping the floors for them, so we keep the room service folks, the good people that do the room service, from having to do that. By the way, tip your room service Ladies, and they're mostly ladies. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for that. I appreciate what they do. My God, I would even want to know what they find in these rooms. Sometimes I would even want to know.

Speaker 1:

I still like the Seinfeld episode where they go to Hollywood because George is going to be I mean because Jerry's going to be on the Tonight Show, and he brings George with him and they're in a hotel and George be on the Tonight Show. And he brings George with him and they're in a hotel and George's got the shower cap and he's trying to. He says, tells them to the room yeah, can I get a no-tuck? I'm a no-tuck guy. You know, I like my feet all free and fancy free. That's kind of how I am. Give me the no-tuck. Jerry wants the tuck, talk, but he goes back and forth anyhow, whatever. So, yeah, we're.

Speaker 1:

And when I'm in Ireland, by the way, I am planning on, like I did from Italy. I am planning on doing some Pats Peeps podcast from there. It's difficult to do it every day. That's another thing I learned. I want to do it every day but because of certain restrictions I say restrictions like sometimes you're just not in a place or a time where you can really do it it's a little difficult, but I'm going to do my best to bring you Pat's Peeps from Ireland as often as I can.

Speaker 1:

I do, of course, post on social media. I get a lot of people who follow along on social media very grateful for that. So if you we are friends on Facebook, I would love for you to follow along. The stuff from Italy was magnificent from the Vatican, you know, Michelangelo, you know, going to Auschwitz and some of the places in Germany which were very dark, I mean, just difficult to look at, going to Normandy. Sharing these experiences. I really look forward to that. So hopefully you'll be able to follow along on Facebook and on social media the various Instagram and some of the other social media platforms.

Speaker 1:

Here's an announcement I'm happy to make. I wish we were doing this a little bit more and I think that's kind of where we're going to be going with this. But for those of you who don't know, I should just tell you this. I try to tell you this every time, excuse me, I am also the host of the Pat Walsh show on the iHeartRadio app is heard live and the podcast forum on both nationally and internationally, but also locally at KAPK the Pat Walsh show, kapk. And so, yes, we will have BC, bruce Campbell, my, filling in most of the time while I'm on vacation. Bruce does a great job as a guest host on my show. He gets my show. You know he doesn't rearrange the furniture, as they say. He keeps the show the same way we do it. We have a certain way. We want to be nice to our listeners, be respectful and have some fun along the way, and Bruce is very good at that, as was sweet Lou Gallagher, who we miss very much. Rest in peace, brother. Bc will be filling in.

Speaker 1:

It'll be a couple of nights of best of and I do get messages from people and I want you to know, vince and some of the others. I agree. I wish excuse me my little cough button here I wish that I'd like to take more charge of the best of, because I tell them all the time can you play something, going back a couple of years, you know, rather than something we just did a week, a week and a half, two weeks ago, something that's still fresh on people's mind. For the people that called in on the show, it's kind of cool on those shows it's kind of cool because they can hear themselves on the radio calling into the show. But for show it's kind of cool. On those shows it's kind of cool because they can hear themselves on the radio we're calling into the show. But for others it's like we just heard this, so why not go to an older show? Uh, for whatever reason, I don't know why that's not happening, but I am going to get to the bottom of that, as they say, and hopefully soon we can make that happen. Others say others ask you know, on the podcast of the actual Pat Wall Show, sometimes we don't get a certain hour, it's not uploaded, or well, I want you to also know and maybe I've explained this before if we play music, we deal with any kind of music on my radio show. They will not put that in a podcast form because of licensing issues or what have you. It's amazing because we did it forever and it was never a problem, but somewhere along the line someone got a little nervous and said well, let's not do that. So that's kind of why. Just to explain. So if you've been asking me about that, that is why that that's happening. Thank you to BC for coming in.

Speaker 1:

This is crazy. I was out doing some last minute stuff, getting my little travel stuff together, picking up my Euros and just doing my thing. And I was at the CVS. I got to have some lotion. Man, I got to keep nice and hydrated when you're walking a lot and you're out in the weather and you're doing stuff. So lotion, toothpaste, you know, shaving needs, all that kind of stuff, all those personal items you take on your vacation, and I don't even know what to make of this. Honestly, I swear to you, this just happened like an hour and a half ago.

Speaker 1:

I'm at the CVS, I'm standing in line. You know I root for those places. By the way, I root for the CVSs of this world. That's why I have a problem with and yeah, that's a whole different topic, but I root for them Rite Aid CVS. You know these stores where you know, like in this case they have this. You know older lady working in there. It just I just want to hug her. You know, I don't know, I just like it. It still has a small town appeal to it and I hope they stick around for a long time. As I digress, I just think about the. I just support the place, so I try to shop there and I'm in line.

Speaker 1:

Now, some of these people don't have some of these stores it's not just CVS but others. I mean, they listen, they have someone's in the back working and the other person's stocking the shelves or whatever they do. And then you got one of the people up there in front running the cash register, in this case this lovely lady and you know, um, and and so a little line. You don't have everyone working the cash register, so you so a little line. You don't have everyone working the cash register, so you get a little line forming two, three, four people. What have you? And I don't, that's fine, I don't mind.

Speaker 1:

Guy behind me, guy behind me. And then there's a, a mom and I, maybe a mom and a daughter, no, dad and I think a daughter behind him. And, uh, this guy's phone is going crazy behind me. The guy behind me, I'm not sure if he exactly knew how to set his phone or whatever it's behind me. It's something like a freaking pinball. Hello mojo and moto moto sound like that old dial-up thing. You know when you had a floppy disk and his phone is like an. It's like a combination alarm siren, old floppy disk, download. This sound going hello moto, hello moto. I don't think I've heard it. Hello moto in like 15 years. But boy, there it comes and I'm thinking, all right, uh, is this guy gonna grab that? Are we all gonna be listening to that for a bit now? So, anyhow, the guy grabs it. Are we all going to be listening to that for a bit now? So, anyhow, the guy grabs it.

Speaker 1:

The best part is the guy, how you doing? He's talking on the phone right behind me. God is my witness. Here's what he says. I have no idea, obviously, none of my business. Here's what he's again.

Speaker 1:

We're in line at CVS. Here's what he's telling the person on the phone. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, well, listen, uh, hey, older guy, older dude, um, yeah, I'm not gonna be able to do that, unfortunately I'm at the gym right now. I said what did he just say he was at the gym. Yeah, no, well, unfortunately I'm at the gym so I can't really do that. So yeah, I'm here at the gym for a while. I'm looking around for weights, bench press I'm pretty sure it ain't the gym. And then for the third time, you know, okay, well, I'm working at it. I got to get back to working out here at the gym. All right, I talk to you later. Clark hangs up. Goodbye, moto. I mean, look, you got to tell little fib, that's on you, that's cool. Whatever that's on you, that's cool, whatever. When you tell, when you tell the fib in line, then don't expect others not to chuckle, have a little reaction. By the way, this is the same store.

Speaker 1:

I've never told this story on my podcast, but I did mention it the evening when it happened. I swear to you, in the same line, at the CVS, and there's a lady, a mother, and her son, his son's, running around. I wasn't even paying attention, I'm in line, and she said now, the son's running around. I wasn't even paying attention, I'm in line, and she said now, the son's name apparently was Marco, her son Marco. He's running around. She can't find him and, as God is my way, she goes Marco. And of course I went Polo. Of course I went Polo and it's, as I'm saying, polo. Maybe I miss her, but I swear to you she said and don't say Polo. Look, if you're going to name your son Marco all right, and they're a kid and they're running around and you're getting their attention you better think ahead on that one, because I can assure you that most people, if you yell out Marco in public, some moron like me is going to go Polo. She didn't say anything to me. Or maybe she was talking to me when she says it, don't say polo. I don't know, but I didn't even look. I was laughing so hard when I saw that.

Speaker 1:

And of course, everything is fodder for my radio show and now my podcast. Here we are at number 134. By the way, the NFL starts this week Thursday night game. It's the Ravens and the defending champion, kansas City Chiefs. Now I know I'm in Niner territory. I used to be in Raider territory. That's just not the case anymore. We're no longer in Raider territory. I used to be in Raider territory. That's just not the case anymore. We're no longer in Raider territory. Raiders are now in Vegas.

Speaker 1:

But this week starts and it seems like every time and I'm not complaining, I'm not doing that, I'm just saying that every time I go. Okay, first of all, that sounds very I wasn't going to come out right. Every time I go to Europe, oh God, that would have sounded pretentious or smug or weird, I don't know. I would never intend it for that. But I was about to say that, oh, doggone it. Every time I go to Europe I tell you I didn't mean it like that, but anyhow.

Speaker 1:

But there's, it's the beginning of the NFL season and I don't miss my team. I don't miss my team. I watch them every week. But it's like the start of the NFL season and last year and I love when the NFL and Major League Baseball collide, like I talked about before the Dodgers are doing well, so I'm super excited about that.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I'm in Northern California, for those of you wondering, and I'm a Rams fan. So the day I take off tomorrow, tomorrow the season starts Thursday night football when the Rams play I looked it up, I think and they're playing the Lions that's going to be the game of the week in my opinion, but it's. I think it's a 5-20 game. I looked it up, I looked at what would that be in Ireland? 1-20. So I'll be at 120 in the morning watching the Rams opener in a hotel room somewhere in Ireland, given that I can get onto my phone and make that happen with the correct app and all my YouTube TV. Hope there's no glitches. I remember doing that the year after the Rams won the Super Bowl. I was in Nuremberg, germany. 3.15 am start of the game. First game of the year Thursday night football Rams-Bills. So as we get ready for the NFL season, hey man, here's my new song baby. Hope you like it. Maybe you will, maybe you'll hate it, but let's see if we can play this for you. I don't know.

Speaker 2:

The season's starting. Feel the energy ignite. Los Angeles Rams ready to take flight. Sean McVay's genius leading with precision, every play designed, fulfilling the vision. In the spotlight we'll shine so bright Championship dreams within our sights. Bring on the season. We're ready to roll Rams in the zone. That's how we play our role, with Nick Faye in charge. It's a beautiful thing. Our eyes on the prize. Let the victory sing.

Speaker 1:

I know some of you, some of you'll hate this song. Niner fans probably Offense stack.

Speaker 2:

Got weapons in every zone, Passing a rush and make the opponents moan. Defensive fire shutting down the attack. The squads were lit. There's no looking back. Victories called and hear the fans. For in this game of inches we're always wanting more. On the season we're ready to roll Rams in the zone. That's how we play our role with make, pay and charge. It's a beautiful thing. My eyes on on the prize. Let the victory sing In the spotlight we'll shine so bright Championship dreams within our sights. Bring on the season. We're ready to roll Rams in the zone. That's how we play our role. With Mayfay in charge. It's a beautiful thing. Our eyes on the prize. Let the victory sing. Bring on the season. We're ready to roll Unity in the Rams. That's how our story flows.

Speaker 1:

Sorry, niner fans, fans of other teams as well. Of course, yes, I am biased. Of course I am. Hey, it's my podcast. You can fast forward. Thank you very much.

Speaker 1:

Here's some really good news that I want to share with you. I'm excited about this is when I go on vacation. I was mentioning we were going to have bc filling in. We were going to have maybe a one, maybe one night of best, of only, I think, one night. But the other night, guess what it's going to be on kfbk radio and streaming worldwide. Guess what it's going to be pats peeps podcast. Hey, now that's right. Everybody pats peeps podcast is going on the terrestrial radio airwaves. We will bring, as far as I know, we'll have the Mickey Dolan's interviews on radio and on streaming live we will have, I believe, congressman Doug LaMalfa from my Pats Peeps podcast, I think number 50, and I think I'm not sure what the other two will be. But that's exciting news to me because that means this podcast that I thank you for listening to is going to be now on the terrestrial airwaves as well. That's huge, that is huge, and in the future we will play some of the Pat's Peeps on my radio show as my show when I am on vacation, because this is fresh content, because I do try to avoid replicating what I do on my show here or here on my show. I try to keep them different.

Speaker 1:

I also realized, coming up when I, when I get back from my trip, I'm and lately I've been going to a lot of concerts it's going to be I've never done this before, but I think I'm going to make this happen. I've never gone to four concerts in a row, but I believe that on the 26th, after I come back, I'm going to be going to see Dwight Yoakam. Yeah, baby, dwight Yoakam. He is one of my all-time favorites in terms of country artists that came out in the last couple of decades, two or three decades. Dwight Yoakam for me, anyone that got played on commercial radio, he's at the top for me. Yes, I like Twang. The very next night at the Golden One Center is a band called the Arctic Monkeys. They have a huge following. Some people may not know who they are, but they are good, they are different, they are unique. Tony Cox turned me on to the Arctic Monkeys back when, probably I don't know 10 years ago, a band that became popular, not so much initially for record sales or radio play, but because of their following on social media Gained a huge audience.

Speaker 1:

That would be the next day, the 27th, after Dwight Yoakam. On the very next day, out at the venue at Thunder Valley in Lincoln, I will be taking my brother for his birthday to go see the cult. That's right, the cult, who of course does my theme song on the Pat Wall show. She Sells Sanctuary. People tell me all the time, every time I hear that song now by the cult, all I think about your show, which is great, and that's what you want you want to be on the air long enough that whatever theme song you picked actually begins to remind people of your show when they hear it. But it has to be, again, commercial enough to where, or popular enough to where it's going to get some airplay.

Speaker 1:

And then the very next night so that'll be on the 28th and the very next night, which is the 29th, at Quarry Park in Rockland. That's a nice venue, great venue, intimate, outside, love the venue. Three Dog Night is going to be playing. Three Dog. Eli's coming. Hide your heart girl. Mama told me not to come. Mama told me I love that stuff. And, of course, joy to the World, black and White. Well, I've never been to Spain, but I've been to Oklahoma Boy. They had so many hits. Can't wait. This will be the second time I've seen them Speaking of music. Let's wrap things up with music, shall we? Let's go back to.

Speaker 1:

I plucked this one out of my Rare 45 collection. This is a great tune, a little something on there. This record has been played. You can tell this record, though I guarantee you hasn't been played since probably 1967. It has a sticker on here, 1967. This is like a I guess it's a yellow, almost lime green, but a yellow Capitol record and big letters. Promotion record, glazer Publications Inc. It's got a sticker that says 1967. It's got a couple other random stickers on it as well.

Speaker 1:

My mother took me to see this person in concert. I'm so grateful that she took me to see this artist in concert. When I was a child she took me to see a lot of great artists Roy Clark, sonny James, who I think opened for Roy Clark. She took me to see a lot John Gary, the great Irish singer, but this one. I'm so glad that she took me to all of these.

Speaker 1:

But this particular song was written originally and recorded by John Hartford, who I've also seen in concert the late John Hartford, who really turned me on to Strawberry. That guy hey, babe, you want a boogie Boogie, woogie, woogie with me? That guy jumped off the stage at Strawberry, middle of Yosemite, in a meadow with a top hat and a vest, with a Henley shirt on playing a fiddle and the line behind him as he danced around that meadow was so awesome it was like I was in heaven watching this guy. Anyhow, the song was written by John Hartford. Rest in peace, released on his second studio album, earth Words in Music 1967. Hartford wrote the song after watching Dr Zhivago in 1966, as he was inspired by the film and his own personal experiences. The lyrics describe the reminiscences of lost love of a man as he travels through the country. By the way, there's an obituary for Hartford indicating that the lyrics were about a hobo reminiscing about a lost love.

Speaker 1:

A year later, hartford released a song as a single on RCA Records. This is on Capitol Caught the attention of this artist who recorded his version with a group of session musicians, the Wrecking Crew. We need to have the author of the Wrecking Crew on. This artist was part of the Wrecking Crew. That's why he had them on. This song peaked in the top 30 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart in 1968. Between this artist's and Hartford's recordings, the song earned four Grammy Awards. Later on, it was re-recorded by a number of artists Elvis, frank Sinatra, andy Williams, dean Martin, aretha Franklin, more and even more. Hartford's original recording of the song, by the way, attracted this artist's attention after he heard it on the radio and bought the single Felt. The song was an essay on life and was knocked out by the scenery that it describes. So, without further ado, I'm going to put this thing on the turntable here. Great tune Really reminds me of my mom and dad.

Speaker 3:

This is a song by Glenenn campbell called gentle on my mind it's knowing that your door is always open and your path is free to walk is open and your path is free to walk that makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag rolled up and stashed behind your couch. And it's knowing I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds and the ink stains that are dried upon some line and the ink stains that are dried upon some line that keeps you in the back roads by the rivers of my memory. It keeps you ever gentle on my mind. It's not clinging to the rocks and ivy Planted on their columns now that bind me, or something that somebody said because they thought we'd fit together walking. It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing or forgiving.

Speaker 3:

When I walk along some railroad track and find that you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my memory and for hours, you're just gentle on my mind. Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines and the junkyards and the highways come between us and some other woman's crying to her mother Cause she turned and I was gone. I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face and a summer sun might burn me till I'm blind, but not to where I cannot see you, the sun might burn me till I'm blind, but not to where I cannot see you walking on the back roads by the rivers flowing, gentle on my mind.

Speaker 1:

That song really brings back the memories. I even have the album over there. I look at the album cover. It reminds me of my mother. She had this album cover. I would always throw it on the record player on the old Curtis Mathis gigantic console. Again, I don't own the copyrights to this. I'm just exposing the music and discussing it and educating as best I can. But I'm going to flip this one over. That's such a great song. The other side is called Just Another man. There is no stickers on this side P5939. Nashville Music Publications. Bmi, not for sale, says so right there, not for sale. So the flip side, the Gentle on my Mind by Glenn Campbell, is just another man.

Speaker 3:

But I have promises to keep. I could be happy here with you, but I must sow wild oats to reap. My strength tells me, my weakness shows you make me think of coats and ties, of baby's home, security and jobs that last from nine to five. I could conjure up a constant state of happiness, but I know that I am just another man and in knowing that, I know that I'll get more or less what I can get. So I do what I can. I have many steps to take, reckless steps I cannot share. A mountain waits for me to climb and I must climb because it's there. I could conjure up a constant state of happiness.

Speaker 1:
