Hey, it's Patrick. This is Pat's Peeps number 141. A little different today, trying to do two things at once here on Pat's Peeps 141. How are you? I hope you had a great weekend. Pat Walsh, here on what is this? The 23rd of September 2024.
Speaker 1:I am the host of the Pat Walsh Show as well, as heard locally on KFBK in Sacramento and then nationally and internationally everywhere on your free iHeart app. But today I'm doing two birds one stone, as they say. I hate killing birds, but so I'll just uh, you know I'm out here. We used to talk on my radio show about tossing logs. I'm tossing logs, so I'm going to set the phone down here. Yeah, so this is, um, what is this?
Speaker 1:The second day, I think, of fall, and on the first day of fall, because you don't want to wait too late, I decided I would have my firewood delivered to my home. So thank you to the folks. I bought two cords of firewood because, again, you want to beat winter, because, of course, you don't want to pay the high prices and everyone is demanding firewood. They want that perfect oak, perfect size for their wood stove or their fireplace. And what have you? I have a wood stove up here in the foothills. You know, usually I say peering out my studio window into the beautiful foothills. Today, let me just tell you here, on Pats Peeps 141, it's a gorgeous day, it's a little warmer. It's a Monday. Talk about my weekend in a second, but as for right now, this is what I'm doing I'm chucking firewood. Now, it's great to's great to beat the crowd, beat the winter rush for the wood. However, in this case, I am stacking this stuff by myself and I didn't really realize. I didn't really realize what I was in for here with two cords, out here in the Sun. I got a little bit of shade. So I really, you know, as I say, a bit off, more than I could chew maybe, but I'll, I'll continue.
Speaker 1:My philosophy is go towards it. I used to box a little bit. I used to play some hoops and baseball. That was my thing. Go toward it, so you go towards the tough tasks of the day. Yeah, it's a big old heap of firewood, though I'm just trying to convince myself.
Speaker 1:Here's the other part about it, though. Really, you know, yes, I could have someone come over and I could have someone do this for me, sure? However, this is good for you, you know. It's good for your heart rate, it's good for what ails you, as my pops used to say. I've got a physical coming up next month and I really want to make sure that I'm getting my activities in. I want my blood pressure to be okay and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1:So over the weekend, if I may, I hope you had a great weekend. Like I say, I'm going to go over here and get some more wood More chuck wood man. I hope you had a great weekend. Like I say, I'm going to go over here and get some more wood Chuck wood man. How much wood could a wood jug have a wood jug?
Speaker 1:Over the weekend I had a great time. Thank you to the Rotary Club over in Clarksburg good people that I got to spend the weekend with at Miner's Leap Winery in Clarksburg, one of my favorite places to relax. They always have good music. He's got a stage out there and, yeah, it's always just a really nice relaxing time. Plus, like I say, you get to meet a lot of good people out there, which I did Not only people from the Rotary rotary thanks to all of you, but also the listeners who are out there. Thank you, patrick. I know I'm at Patrick. Out there there's a variety of you. That I really makes me feel good. Lisa, so many of you. Linda, thank you all of you. I don't want to leave anyone out. Loyalty now, once I start going out in the road of naming names, I don't, then you know, especially when I'm out here doing this, I don't want to leave anyone out, but it's a great venue and, uh, great hosts.
Speaker 1:I was a rib cook. I was the quote celebrity, unquote Rib cook off judge. I'm getting used to this. Take a second here in the shade. Whoo, yeah, there's a lot of wood To be chucked here. That's the right term, how. But I hope I have enough room for it over here.
Speaker 1:But you know, this is like my I don't know fifth or sixth time being asked to be a rib cook-off judge. All of my previous experiences have been with the Placer County Fair and a variety of good people there. We usually do that in June and you learn a lot about being a rib cook. I mean, you learn everything about being a judge at a rib cook-off. There are certain things you know appearance and tenderness and taste and just all kinds of things that go into it. At this particular rib cook-off, seemingly it was even more regimented, so we had to sit down for some training and do that. But let me tell you, no one's going to complain about sitting and eating some of the most delicious ribs that you can find anywhere, which happens to be some of my favorite food. So thank you to again everyone who is out there, everyone I got to meet fabulous wine and again, if you're looking for a place to, if it's time to relax, miner's Leap Winery in Clarksburg. I highly recommend that.
Speaker 1:What else did I have today? Shoot, you know I okay, let me uh, okay, let me see. Can't see on my phone here. Let me see what else I got here. I'm trying to keep track of some things I wanted to talk about here. What else I gotta gotta get out of the sun to see it. I should post a picture after this on my Facebook page just to kind of show you what I'm doing. Let's see. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Means how that? This is Pat's Peeps Number 141.
Speaker 1:I know there's times where I say, hey, bigger things are coming for the Pat's Peeps business. Today's a big day for that. Oh, I just needed. I can't reveal what it is just yet, but today could be a real turning point, and not just the Pats Peeps podcast, but the Pats Peeps business as a whole, which is super exciting, which is something I can't wait to share with you, because you'll want to spread the word, you'll want to take advantage of this. I promise you, boy, I can't wait to reveal this. But wish me luck today. Okay, on this Monday I'm going to meet with our GM for the first time at iHeart, I mean at KFBK. His name is Steve. So, please, if you would wish me luck, I would greatly appreciate that Because, again, it's not just going to be great for the Pat's Peeps community, which I thank you for being a part of that, but it's also going to be it could be big in many other ways. So, excuse me, so I will be able to expand on that. All right, I'm going to get moving again here. Will be able to expand on that, all right, I'm going to get moving again here. Be able to expand on that further in the very near future.
Speaker 1:You know I'm never, ever antagonistic on Facebook or social media. Antagonistic, I don't like that, I don't do it on my show. But, boy, if you root for your team, by God, and you want from the right area. Man oh man, people come out, they want to snip at you. You know I like I never, which is what happened this weekend. I never on my social media, if you look at it, I never go. Hi, hey, how you like that.
Speaker 1:Niner fans, giant fans, I don't do that. You know a lot of friends who I respect and care, who are fans of those teams. You know, despite me trying to convince them otherwise, they're fans of the Niners and the Giants, what have you. And so I don't ever try to antagonize what I do. I just root for my team and I might just goof around a little bit, but I try to do it in a way that is obviously I'm just having fun with you. I'm not being again antagonistic.
Speaker 1:For instance, a lot of people there, I'm kind of not ashamed, but I'm embarrassed by the Ram fan overall or isn't going to the game and you know, heck, you got the Niner fans wearing their red jerseys in SoFi, which is so huge that stadium. But for the life of me, what's up? Ram fans Number one, look at yourself. You know I can't travel to LA every weekend. I'm the rare Northern California Ram fan Not rare, but you know I go against the grain, just like I do with the Dodgers. That's my prerogative. God bless Tom of the Sword. It was his birthday over the weekend, by the way.
Speaker 1:I mean I hope someone, whoever posted that I hope that was accurate, because I do plan on talking about Tommy tonight. But you know, hey, ram fans, feel free to go to the. But that's beside the point. I am a diehard and if I lived there and I am gonna go there, I'm gonna make the plan to go there next year. The other part of that really I would have been there this year. I know there's a lot of season to go. I may get an opportunity if the Dodgers and the Rams are playing the same weekend, but I still have a lot of traveling to do elsewhere. I just came back from two weeks in Ireland, but that's just the way it goes. But next year I'm making that a point. So once you see but I digress Just posted this little video it's not even a video, it's a gift of a ram and he's he's the headbutt in a car that's backing up in a down a road.
Speaker 1:You know, and I posted you know, sofi, parking attendant helping the niner fans out of the stadium, ease their way out of the stadium, just something like that. Most people took it for what it was a light, even even some I saw you out even some of my Niner fan friends. So don't take that as too much of a jab. But boy, oh boy. You know, people can sure come up with excuses.
Speaker 1:I find, well, if this hadn't have happened, if we hadn't have dropped seven passes, we would have won that game. Oh well, sure, if we had Superman playing center, we probably would win every game. I mean, you dropped seven passes. Not to mention you couldn't, you know, block Braden Fisk when he, you know, recovered a fumble, or Kobe Turner when he caused a fumble, or Braden Fisk in the end, when he, you know, when he got the sack and you couldn't stop. 2-2 Atwell, on a 50-yard play. But other than that, oh and I love the other part we choked it away, we gave it away, you did Okay. So I guess Matt Stafford's awesome abilities to play the way he did A guy who has the most fourth quarter comebacks in league history, if I'm not mistaken, or at least in the last few decades by far Sean McVay calling the plays, kyron Williams couldn't be stopped at crucial times, and their backups, all I mean again, without two of their offensive linemen, without Cooper Cupp, without Puka Nakua.
Speaker 1:So no excuses, just like if the Rams would have lost. I know the Niners had players out, the Rams had players out, but enough of the excuses. If you're dropping seven passes, I mean what am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to be antagonistic, like, oh well, gee, if the Niners are just a better team, they might have won, actually won. I mean, that's antagonistic, rather than posting something that's lighthearted or, you know, not meant to be offensive triggering. Anyhow, don't get me started. No, I'm already started. I need to be doing this over on my Rams podcast, anyhow. And then you have Shoei Otani, shoei Otani for the Dodgers and you have Mookie Best. Now Otani's putting on a performance like I've never seen. I mean, we know about the one-game performance, but when you start stringing things together, his base stealing, his hitting is, he's on a pace like I've never seen it.
Speaker 1:I've watched baseball a long time and to see yesterday the Dodgers, who were trailing big time at home, only up on the Padres at this point who, okay, padres are playing out, whites out too, but they were only two and a half at that point up. They needed to win and the Dodgers are way behind at home. And I'm just taking another break, but I'm going to start chucking wood again. Speaking of chucking wood, dodgers are waiting on it. It's time for Dodger baseball. And ninth inning what happens? Shohei comes up. Bam, another homer. Shohei ties the game at five. Okay, she missed it. Next, batter up Bam, another homer, ties the game at five. Okay, she missed it. Next batter up Mookie Betts, who promptly belts the game-winning home run to give the Dodgers the 6-5 victory over the Rockies.
Speaker 1:And now you have a team that has incredible momentum. You know they're playing so well. They know that in the past few years. You know winning the division has not meant anything other than that, and congratulations if they're winning the division over and over, which I expect that they'll do again this year. We'll see. But I think they realize you can't just cruise. These wildcard teams come up and bite you. Sometimes those wildcard teams are playing very important baseball to try to get to that point of being a wild card team. You know they're fighting for other teams in that group trying to become a wild card team. So this year it could be, in my estimation, a blessing in disguise. Excuse me, dust is flying up to have the Padres nipping at your heels. Because what does that mean? That means you better keep on playing, you better not let your foot off that accelerator or you're going to give it up. So they're playing meaningful baseball heading into the postseason, but so are the Padres.
Speaker 1:Anyhow, all right, whew, anyhow, all right, take another break here from the wood chucking process, as I completely or I can continue, I should say to stack my two cords of firewood by my. Ah. Well, I guess that's where it ended up. Right there, I'm okay, I didn't pass out, I didn't pass out, I finished up. Now we fast forward on this Monday. I still have a lot of firewood to stack, but I'm getting it done, getting it done Anyhow.
Speaker 1:So today, well, a couple of things. Number one I mentioned in there I said I think I said Kobe Turner in there, but it was actually Byron Young that had a really nice day on the defense yesterday, really pressuring the quarterback, I want to clear that up Braden Fisk, the rookie, jared Verse, you could see that these young guys are playing well. Listen, every team has excuses. I get it, but it was a good win for the Rams. Yes, I know there were starters out for the 49ers and yes, I know there were numerous starters out for the Rams. That's just the way it was. So congratulations to the Rams and two Monday night games tonight which I'll be competing with on my radio show. So, again, big day as well for the business, and I'm going to go to a meeting here shortly. So today is a number.
Speaker 1:141 will be a somewhat abbreviated version of the Pat's peeps, and maybe that's a refreshing change for some of you. So I thought let me just go ahead and get to my music of the day. Hopefully, my hopefully everything's working okay on my turntable. I changed a couple of things here. It should be working ideal, but I haven't really experimented just yet. I have some new equipment that we're putting in, so you're at the studio, okay.
Speaker 1:So this song here that I grabbed for sure has never been taken out of the sleeve. I don't even see a radio marker of any kind on this. Let me pull it out. The only thing I see is a little dust with a very edge. Sort of comes out of the sleeve, the old record sleeve that they put. Excuse me, a little dusty. This is on RCA. It's an off-white label. It is stereo. On both sides. Big letter says not for sale, which means radio promo, radio DJ promo. It's the same thing on both sides, stereo on both sides. It is not stereo on one side and then mono on the other. But this song is by an American duo Boy. Does it bring back memories 1982, I believe yes, 1982. From their 11th album.
Speaker 1:This went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, december 18th of 82. It remained in the top spot for four weeks and I won't lie, during this particular time it was the best of times. It was the worst of times for yours truly of times. It was the worst of times for yours truly. Uh, personally, I would now I can't even get it I should do that sometime. That would be a very um, revealing podcast in terms of just kind of where I was in 1982 with work and dreaming about doing this and just some of the things that was going on. But what it does remind me of, it reminds me of living in Chico and Orland and hello Chico and Orland, and going out to Top Flight Ballroom, madison Bear Garden, the Grad Joe's Bar, all of these places Really brings back memories. Someday on this podcast very soon maybe I'll get into some of those days. But anyhow, this song came out in 82, remained in the top spot four weeks. By the way, that was longer than any of their five other number one hits. Spot four weeks. By the way, that was longer than any of their five other number one hits. This remained in the number one spot for longer and they had a number of hits.
Speaker 1:So in an interview with American Songwriter in 09, one of the members of this group wrote had written a prototype of the song, banging it around with edgar winter said it was like a reggae song. He said well, the chords are interesting, but I think we should change the groove. So he changed it to the motown kind of a groove. They did that. They played it for Sarah Allen, sang it for her and says I forget, I guess, what the last line was. But she said drop that crap. Essentially, hit the end and go.
Speaker 1:She's a man eater. So with that you'll know what I'm talking about. So with that, you'll know what I'm talking about. And Daryl Hall says no of Hall Oates. No, you're crazy, that's messed up. Then I thought about it and I said you know what? I realized she's right, made all the difference in the song. She's a man-eater, huh. So we had a line in there. She went no, no, make it man eater. He also said that they try and take chances that the single man eater isn't something that sounds like anything else on the radio and the idea is to make it better. John oats, by the way, explaining that while it's natural to assume the lyrics are about a woman, the song's actually originally written about New York City in the 1980s, about greed, spoiled riches and such. But they have it in the setting of a girl because it's more relatable, according to John. They have it in the setting of a girl because it's more relatable, according to John. This went to number four Australia, eight in Belgium, four in Canada, seven in Denmark, and on and on, and on and on.
Speaker 1:Takes me back to another time and place, though, that is for sure I don't know about you. Here you go Maneater Hall Oates. Thank you. She'll only come out at night Leaning, hungry, tight. Nothing new. I've seen her here before Watching her wedding. She's sitting with you, but her eyes are on the door. So many are paid to see what you think. You get it for free. The woman's wild. She can't take by the pub and jaguar. Money's a matter. If you're ready for love, you ain't gonna get too far. Oh, here she comes. Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up. Oh, here she comes, she's a man-eater. Oh, here she comes, she's a man-eater. Oh here she comes. Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up. Oh, here she comes, she's a man-eater. Daryl Hall on the lead vocals, backing vocals, keyboard synthesizer. John Oates, lead guitar, backing vocals. Ge Smith he was with the Saturday Night Live band, right Rhythm guitar backing vocals. Tom Wolk on bass, charles DeChant on saxophone and I've got to wait to tell you about the drummer. Oh, here she comes. Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up. Oh, here she comes, she's a man-eater. Oh, here she comes. Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up. Oh, here she comes, she's a man-eater Guy by the name of Mickey Curry on drums.
Speaker 1:I knew a Mickey Curry when I played junior high football at Rudder. I would have prayed for a mustache hair at the time. Mickey had almost a full beard he had like big mutton chops. Who was it? The former president? Not Grover Cleveland. Who was it? You know, like big old, dark, red mutton chops, mickey Curry. We'd have to go head to head hitting each other. I hated when it went Pat Walsh against Mickey Curry. I'm like man. I look like OP Taylor. This guy had a full beard in seventh grade. Mickey Curry on drums. Thank you for listening. I've got a very important meeting. Please wish me well on Pat's Peeps 141. We'll see you on the radio. Oh, here she comes, she's a man eater. Oh, here she comes, she's a man eater. Oh, she'll chew you up. Oh, here she comes. Here she comes, she's a man eater.
