And, of course, the podcast is heard on all your streaming platforms. And, of course, the podcast is heard on all your streaming platforms as well. So, with that in mind, this is a Tuesday. It is the 10th day of December 2024, as we're getting headed down the final stretch of 2024. Hope it's been a good year for you. I will tell you it's been a wonderful year. I've been loving doing the podcasting and seeing the audience grow. Thank you so much.
Speaker 1:I tried to be consistent yesterday. There was a good reason I couldn't do one. Yesterday. I tried to do it most every day. Yesterday I just couldn't do it. I ran out of time. But you know what? It was all well, other than the tooth still missing. It was all good things. Yeah, the tooth is still missing. I can't get into the second, but I'm not going to harp on that Today as I look out the studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California.
Speaker 1:On this Tuesday. It's a gorgeous day. The clouds are coming in but the sun is still out there and I believe it's going to be raining the next couple of days, I think, which is just perfect timing. Perfect timing because Thursday night I'm going to go see my beloved Rams take on the 49ers, and what's supposed to be a, this should be a big. This is a big game Because if the Rams win I mean essentially if the Rams win they're going to be in first place in the NFC West Because they've already beat Seattle. Right now Seattle is at the top, perched atop the NFC West, essentially kind of in a tie with the Rams, because the Rams beat the Seahawks already and only a game separates them. So tiebreaker goes to LA, but you know. But so this is a big game because if the Rams win this, they're in first place.
Speaker 1:If they and if they win, then the Niners are essentially at least in my opinion they're out, they're done for the year. They I don't believe they would make the playoffs at that point. Now the opposite could happen, obviously. So if the Niners win, that's a big blow to the Rams and probably to the Rams' chances of making the playoffs. And what it also says is look, the 49ers all of a sudden got healthy and look out for them. But that's the same thing with the Rams.
Speaker 1:You know both of these teams were injured. They played each other earlier in the year. Both of the teams were devastated with injuries and the Rams won that one. Now they're getting healthy 49ers. I'm not sure what their injury status is. I know that the Bosa's injured and Christian McCaffrey's injured.
Speaker 1:I don't know about Debo. He might be back in the mix, I'm not exactly sure. I think Kittle, you know he had a game against the Bears the other day, so anyhow, but it looks like it's going to rain. So when I'm in santa clara perfect timing, it looks like it's like there's a 70 chance of rain for this one. So this will be a memorable one, no matter what. I look forward to it and I also want to say thank you to chris and julie, who are very kind enough and generous enough to offer that ticket, or maybe two tickets for me. I need to double check that today, but I've invited my brother to go and he might be going. I need to talk to him as well. Confirm all of that. So that's going on Thursday night.
Speaker 1:It's been a number of years since I've been to a 49er and uh 40 to the 49er stadium, rams Niner game and uh back. It was so long ago that it was when Colin Kaepernick, when he was quarterback in the Niners, beautiful sunny day, you know, at one point there was, uh, I think, the fan. I knew it was like getting him in a sea of red and I wear a white Dickerson jersey. I recorded the game at home because I knew I would be able to see myself because I was in a sea of red. And, sure enough, when I got home I could see myself on TV up in the stands where my white Dickerson jersey. But the Rams were mediocre at best. I think the Niners were about the same, maybe a little bit better at that time. I don't know, can't really recall. Might have been like 2005, I don't know. Anyhow, I could very well be wrong on that year. It doesn't really matter. I went with my friend, alan LaRue. Hope you're doing well, alan, good guy.
Speaker 1:By the way, in this game the Rams had eight sacks and I kept noticing the fans, the Niner fans. They'd stand up and they'd do this thing with their arm. They'd point forward with their arm three times and they'd go in unison and they would go. And because we'd set a good precedent before the game, everyone poking at me because I'm a Ram fan and I'm poking back at them. We were getting along in the seating area that I was in and so during the game, when they kept going oh, oh, oh, I kept asking them well, what does that mean? When you go, oh, oh, oh, and everyone stands up and does that with their arm, and they said, no, that's every time we get a first down, I said, oh, okay, okay, at least now I knew what was going on. So, to be a smartass, all in fun, by the way, no harm, no foul.
Speaker 1:The Rams, like I said, had eight sacks in this game against the Niners. Every time the Rams got a sack, I'd stand up and go, I'd look around with my Ram jersey, I'd go, oh oh, oh, do that with my arm, and everyone would turn around and look at me. And I still remember the Niner fans saying you know, it's a damn good thing, we like you and we all laughed. So you know we set the precedent early that day. So now think about this. So now, as I recall.
Speaker 1:So the Rams in this game the last one I went to the Rams are leading the whole game and I thought, how about this man? Because I'm standing up. I'm yeah, come on, rams, let's go. Boys, ram football, heck with these Niners. It's always been that way in my life, so don't take that personally If you're a Niner fan, I don't. I mean, listen, it makes it fun, great respect back and forth. It's a great rivalry. So I'm happy the whole game.
Speaker 1:Well, this game the Niners drive down to like the Rams, one yard line. Now I'm freaking out like, yeah, ah, there it goes, doesn't it Figure? Jeff Fisher football. Jeff Fisher, the former Ram coach, guy sucked, I mean, I like him, I do like Jeff Fisher. He doesn't have a great coaching style, in my opinion anyhow, but I do like the guy. But here come the Niners, down to the one yard line. Now everyone in the stadium and Levi is standing up. It's intense. They're yelling, they're screaming, they're at the one yard line. There's only a couple of seconds left in the game. I can't really recall how many seconds were left and I bet you could look this up on YouTube, this game.
Speaker 1:And now I'm sitting there in my seat. I'm all dejected because I know my team's about to lose and I'm sitting there and I'm just, and everyone's towering over me, because they're standing in the stadium so loud, and I'm waiting to hear hot, hot, you know, and then they hit. And then I'm waiting to hear HUT, hut, you know, and then they hit. And then I'm waiting to hear the whole place erupt. Well, I hear this, kaepernick says HUT, hut, and then the next thing, I hear the pads hit and everything, but there's silence and I'm thinking like what? Well, it must be a penalty, what? Why is it silent? There's no big eruption, there's no real. I can't. Then I hear some groans. I'm like what, hold up now what? And I stand up and I look. And I'll like what, hold up now what? And I stand up and I look and I'll never forget Kappersack drops the ball, fumbled the ball into the end zone and linebacker James Laronitis who was a heck of a linebacker, tough guy for the Rams, he's got the ball in his hand and he's jumping up and down Recovered the fumble.
Speaker 1:Rams win, baby. I couldn't believe it, couldn't believe it. So that was my last Ram Niner game. That was my last NFL game that I attended. So I'm looking forward to it this Thursday, but it'll be in the rain. That'll be interesting Sitting out there for four hours in the pouring rain, four plus hours, whatever it takes between everything. But whatever, suck it up, walsh.
Speaker 1:So I'm getting ready to go do some Christmas shopping today. That's what I'm doing today. On a Tuesday, I'm going to go down early, go down to my show. Let's go down to Sacramento a little bit early, get some Christmas shopping in. It's really wonderful.
Speaker 1:I don't mean to harp on it or anything, but just as a reminder, I'm doing this podcast and my radio show with no front tooth. Now, there you go. Thank you so much. Yes, it popped out. I'm learning how to say my F's. I'm getting better at it.
Speaker 1:There's a lovely lady who said she might help me with some kind of a thing like a plate or some kind of a dental plate or something. What a sweetheart. Let me see. Let me see. Her name is Lisa and Lisa said she could help me with something called a stay plate. So I have the best listeners in the world, the nicest people. So I'm going to see what that's all about, because that way you know, because I'm going to go do my Christmas shop and you know I'm running out of time. But then you got to go and you got to talk to people Hi, how you doing there, you know. So it is very humbling.
Speaker 1:I still have a little vanity left. You know I want to look decent, be presentable. Everyone's so nice. By the way, on social media I dared myself to post a photo of it, but Mike Murray encouraged me to do that, so I posted a photo with no tooth and people are so darn nice. So, thank you, and I love all the. I mean you could poke at me all day, that's great. But so I'm going to go to Christmas shopping with no front tooth, if you can imagine that.
Speaker 1:Also, going back to the Rams game, going to the Rams game, going to the Rams game, uh, I want to also say that, uh, today is my dear, dear friend, randy's birthday. Randall Lamont, I love you, randall, love you brother, so much. But I also miss randall. Um, randall, randall, I know he's called randall, diehard ram fan, that's how we met back in the 80s I was sitting at. Uh, this was back before you could get like the direct ticket you know you could get before you could get the nfl the big, you could get the NFL package on direct TV now Excuse me, on direct TV, now on YouTube TV, and before you had to go to a satellite bar. Some people still do that. You go to a satellite bar watch your team on Sunday mornings, or what have you. So I was sitting there one day by myself. I'd go in there watch my Rams, sitting by myself at the table, and, uh, this other guy would hang out in there and he was a Ram fan. But, anyhow, he came up to me one day. He said hey, what's going on, man? I noticed you're a Ram fan too. I said, yeah, how you doing, brother, I'm a Ram fan. Heck, yeah, high five, go Rams. Yeah, you know we're rooting on it. We're both rooting for a team that wasn't very good.
Speaker 1:This was during the years of gaston green and cleveland gary and these kind of players, and we're talking like early 90s, early to mid 90s. Um, no, before that this would have been. Well, it morphed into that. But late 80s basically late 80s, anyhow, does it? That's where we became friends, and so randy and I were great friends and, um, I lost my buddy. I guess it was three years ago and I miss him all the time. I can just hear his voice in my head constantly Sir Patrick. Well, sir Patrick, and Elvis singing Elvis. Randy would always sing Elvis. It didn't matter what band you talked about, what artist, whatever song He'd sing it, he'd sing it in Elvis style. Alright in you go. How you doing man? Hey man, he loved Elvis, he loved Elvis. Elvis is three people on this earth I mean Randall's, excuse me, excuse me, randall's favorite three people on this earth, and this is from the heart and in no particular order Randall's favorite three people ever were.
Speaker 1:Elvis Presley. Hey, hey, man, how you doing, man, I love you too. Randall, his other favorite person, again In no particular order Former Rams quarterback Just passed away, the great Roman Gabriel.
Speaker 2:You'll be doing all right with your Christmas of white, but I have a blue, blue, blue, blue.
Speaker 1:Christmas, randall's third favorite person on the planet, yours truly, and I mean that he would display that constantly. He was never afraid to compliment me, patrick, sir Patrick, I'm so proud of you, I'm so proud of you. He would always encourage me. You know, if I was working out, he'd tell me dang man, patrick, you look like a linebacker at football. We used to play basketball. We used to play one-on-one and we'd play full court against. You know, full teams. And Randy was a tall guy, taller than me, for sure, and Randy played high school basketball. I played street basketball. I didn't know Randy during high school, anyhow, so I beat.
Speaker 1:Long story short, I beat Randy 52 times in a row in one-on-one. He's like God, darn it, patrick, it doesn't matter If I come up on you, you just go around me and you burn me in a row in one-on-one. He's like God, darn it, patrick, it doesn't matter If I come up on you, you just go around me and you burn me. If I don't come up on you, you just do your jump fadeaway and you never miss. You beat me 52 times. He must have told me that 5,000 times. Remember that, pat. I remember that. Today's Randy's birthday. Happy birthday, randy.
Speaker 1:Randy passed away three years ago. I was the first person he called, crying, and I just never forget that. It's hard to get that out of my mind. It's not exactly the memory I want to be left with, but there it is. But I have so many more. And so, randall, I love you buddy. And oh, yeah, here's the other thing, randall, up there in heaven. Our Dodgers won the World Series, baby Randall. Our Dodgers won the World Series, notre Dame series, baby randall. Our dodgers won the world series, notre dame. They're gonna be playing for the national championship. Perhaps they're in the mix, randy. Randy was a notre dame fighting irish fan. We all had that. We had all those teams in common and, um, every r game, including this last lick, and they put on the Bills on Sunday. Every game, I have Randy's jerseys, his Rams jerseys. So I take out one of his jerseys and I put it over the couch you know the top of the couch and I high-five it during the game as if Randy were there. So, anyhow, I love you buddy. Happy birthday to you, okay.
Speaker 1:Also, last night I just want to mention this on my radio show, as I do the sort of remembering the year, that was 2024. I remembered Sweet Lou Gallagher on my show last night. Sweet Lou, he would guest host for me if I were on vacation. If I was on vacation, had the night off sick, whatever the case might be, sweet Lou Gallagher would do my show, my radio show. Everyone loves Sweet Lou BC as well. I want to mention Bruce Campbell, who's alive and well. Buddy Just was on the show with me on Friday night. Everyone loved that when he was on the show, but we lost Sweet Lou. So, yeah, I played that on my show last night.
Speaker 1:Sweet Lou, to you, I miss you, my friends, so much, and to your family in my prayers. Always you start missing friends that you lose, right for those of you who know. Also, this will be exciting for me in that after this week and then next week, so after the 20th, I'm going to be off for like I can't even believe this between Christmas and through the new year. I'm going to be off for two weeks During that time. When I say off, I'm talking about my radio show. So I have that time off. So what I will be doing is my patch peeps though.
Speaker 1:So if you missed the radio show, which I'm so grateful if you, if you missed my show or, if you miss it while in it, you know, while it's not there. That just makes me so happy and I thank you. But hey, I'll have the podcast here and I'll try to do it, if not every day, most every day during my time off. So that's just to just to let you know I'm dedicated to this thing and I appreciate you being there as well. Listen, I've got some Christmas songs I grew up with there, some of the stuff that I grew up with in our household as a kid. What were some of the top Christmas songs in your household? I know that for my household as a kid, my mom and dad always listening to Perry Como.
Speaker 2:Have yourself a merry little Christmas. Let your heart be light. From now on, our troubles will be out of sight.
Speaker 1:Merry Christmas man. This is so good, little eggnog, have yourself A little Irish tilt to the eggnog. Merry Christmas Some pericomo, if you'll tie me. Oh, those are good times as a kid, as an Irish lad.
Speaker 2:All our troubles will be miles away. All your troubles will turn into bottles Once again, as in olden days. Happy golden days of yours. Trying to get myself into Christmas shopping spirit, friends who are dear to us, gather near to us once more, once more.
Speaker 1:I mean, these are the classics. Here's another one that we grew up with. Remember the Ray Conniff singers? No, this is Dean Martin. No, this is Dean Martin. Hold off, I'll do the Ray Conniff singers later. Here's Dean Martin.
Speaker 2:But, baby, it's cold outside. But baby it's cold outside. Been hoping that you'd drop in. I'll hold your hands.
Speaker 1:Remember when they banned this song a couple years ago? The Woke the Cancel. Culture Beautiful. Please don't ago you the woke the cancel culture beautiful.
Speaker 2:Please don't put some records on while I baby. It's bad out there no. Your eyes are like starlight. Now I'll take your hat. Your hair looks wild. Mind, if I move in closer, what's the sense of hurting my pride? Baby, don't hold out, baby, it's cold.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh, what an offensive, awful song. How dare you, Dean Martin, can you imagine that you know what I love is Carl Hazelwood's take on that.
Speaker 2:It really killed me. It was last Christmas. We canceled a song that was written in the 1940s called Baby, it's Cold Outside. People were triggered by that song. Radio stations wouldn't play it. They said it had toxic masculinity in it and they said that the lyrics had suggestions of male sexual aggression, which is fine if you feel that way. But at the exact same time, the number one song in this nation for over two months was entitled Wet A**. Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making that up, google it, check me out on that, I'm not lying. For over two months, the number one song was played on the Grammys.
Speaker 2:It also won the best hip hop song for the American Music Awards and the People's Choice Awards, which is ridiculous, and so I thought it would be fun to compare and contrast the lyrics of these two songs to see if indeed this country has lost its mind Now. Indeed, this country has lost its f***ing mind Now. Let's begin with the horribly offensive Christmas song written just after World War II. Baby, it's Cold Outside. I really can't stay. Baby, it's cold outside. I gotta go away. Baby, it's cold outside.
Speaker 2:This evening has been so very nice. Yeah, you f***ing with some wet a**. Bring a bucket and a mop for this wet a**, beat it up. N-word Extra large, extra hard. Put this b***h in your face. Swipe your nose like a credit card.
Speaker 2:My mother will start to worry. Beautiful, what's your hurry? My father will be there at the door. Listen to that fireplace roar. Well, maybe just half a drink more. Spit in my mouth. Look in my eyes. This is wet. Come take a dive. Talk your shit, talk your. Bite your lip. Ask for a car while you ride that. My sister will be suspicious. Gosh, your lips look delicious. My brother will be there at the door. Waves on a tropical shore? Well, maybe just a cigarette more. I need a deep stroker. I need a weed smoker, not a garden snake, I need a king cobra. I don't want to spit, I want to gulp, I want to gagulp, I want to gag, I want to choke, I want you to touch that little dangly thing that's swinging the back of my throat. I submit to you that this nation has lost its mind everybody there you go.
Speaker 1:And it's not Carl Hazelwood he posted, it's Tom Cotter who was doing a comedy. Yes, sir, yes, sir, true, so true, that's Wow, that is so true. You know the woke culture. I feel the cancel culture being canceled a little bit here. Also, on last night's show I brought this up Miriam Webster Dictionary.
Speaker 1:The name of the year 2024, according to Miriam Webster Dictionary is polarization. Polarization, defining it as division into two sharply distinct opposites, especially a state in which opinions, beliefs or interests of a group or society no longer range along a continuum but become concentrated at opposing extremes. Okay, division, yeah, I have other ones that I think should be in there for 2024. The another one was democracy. Democracy, can you imagine democracy? It garnered bipartisan attention across blue and red states. Well, people look in the word up to try and fully understand what it means To challenge, celebrate and protect it. According to Merriam-Webster, the word democracy never appears in the Declaration of Independence or in the Constitution, but it has long been a focus of American and global attention, rarely more so than now, according to the dictionary and its explanation. And then pander it was the other word of the year from Merriam-Webster Grew in mid-October, several conservative news outlets accusing Vice President Kamala Harris of pandering to different groups, including young voters, black voters, supporters of gun rights, et cetera, et cetera. So here's, but I think here's the one that was left off this list and would be at my top. These are okay. Unhinged should be at number one. How many times have I heard the word unhinged during the election or over the last eight years in regards to Donald Trump? Unhinged, unhinged, unhinged. Here's another one that I think should be on their list Misinformation.
Speaker 1:I mean, excuse me, dis disinformation, not misinformation. Disinformation. That's another one. Because of the disinformation that we've all seen, which really played a significant role, in my estimation, in what we just saw in this election the disinformation the you know misinformation. Well, we gave you some misinformation could have been a mistake. Maybe it was on purpose. Either way, it was misinformation, it was unintended. Uh, this is my definition. Yeah, you can look your own, but this look up your own definition if you want, merriam-webster's. Whatever Disinformation is misinformation which is done purposely, with a purpose, with an agenda behind it. Here's some information we're going to try to pour onto you and hopefully this will somehow sway you or persuade you in one way or another. It's meant there. It's there for a reason, for a purpose. Those could have been in, I think anyhow so, but those are the words of the, of miriam webster, and uh, to try to go, you know. So to go back and to the song baby, it's cold outside. All of this nonsense.
Speaker 1:I feel a bit of a cultural shift. I hope I'm right, but I think 2025 is going to be a great year for many reasons, for so many reasons. I know I always play a record at the end of my podcasts, but today, if you don't mind, I want to play some Elvis for my buddy, randall. Hey, man, man, you beat me 52 times, pat, 52 to nothing. I want to tell you a story, real quick too. So one time I told you that Randall's favorite people. I feel blessed to be in that group, but he was genuine about it, he meant it. And Elvis Presley are you kidding me?
Speaker 1:And Roman Gabriel? Well, when I was a kid, roman Gabriel was my childhood hero in terms of football. He's the reason, other than the horn on the helmet, that I became a Ram fan. People ask me all the time how can you become a Ram fan? In Northern California, I saw that horn and I went whoa, what is that. That's my team. And then the quarterback's this big Filipino guy. That's my team. And then the quarterback is this big Filipino guy, man number 18, roman Gabriel, the coolest name ever, roman Gabriel.
Speaker 1:So when I was the sports guy at KFPK for many years, one day I decided I was going to do an interview. I was going to try to get a hold of Roman Gabriel. This was incredible. I get a hold of Roman Gabriel, he agrees to do the interview.
Speaker 1:I call Roman at his home I think he was in North Carolina, I believe and we do this interview and I tell him, sir, you are my favorite quarterback. Oh, thank you man, thank you so much. That's so nice of you. And I said but my friend holds you in such high esteem. And I told him the whole story and I said would you be, would you be, would you consider like leaving him a happy birthday message? It's his birthday today. He said sure, so I go to Randall's apartment. I couldn't believe he said yes, he calls Randall's apartment. I couldn't believe he said yes, he calls Randall. I knew Randall would be at work. Calls Randall's message machine.
Speaker 1:I rush over to Randy's house as soon as I get off of work. Get over to his apartment. I go, randall. Look your message machine. No, I'll check it later. Check your answering machine. I'll check it later. Come on, check it. He goes and he hits that bleep. Randall, this is Roman Gabriel. I just want to call and wish you a very happy birthday, randall. I'll never forget Randy. Look at me. Big old lug gave me the biggest hug ever. Happy birthday, randall. Thank you for listening to Pat's Peeps 171. See you for 172.
Speaker 2:It all lay in my dreams I'll be home for Christmas.
