Pat Walsh
Speaker 1:

well, here we are once again, friends and family. Hello there. How y'all doing, man? It's a Thursday, happy Thursday. It's the Pat's Peeps podcast, 19th day of December 2024. Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat. Who put the? My mom used to sing? Who put the penny in the old man's ass? How are ya, how you doing? What are we on 176 now, pat's peeps 176.

Speaker 1:

And I'm looking out my studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California and my friends on this Thursday. It's gorgeous. It's not even that cold. Well, I haven't really, to be honest, I haven't been outside that much, but I did step out for a couple of minutes. Seemed very nice. I've been working in the house today. I've got all the doors open. Very nice, lovely day. Thank you for again. Thank you for listening and thank you for when you call my radio show. I host the Pat Walsh show as heard on your free iHeart app, nationally, internationally and locally in Sacramento on KFBK 93.1 FM 1530 AM. Thank you for the calls on my radio show mentioning my podcast. Man, I'm loving this and I'll keep mentioning that. All right, it's wonderful. Hope you're having a great Christmas time.

Speaker 1:

I got some toys here. Remember I was cleaning out my toy box. The other day I still hadn't. I'm still working on that project. I did donate some of those to Vincent. By the way, vincent, happy birthday Vincent. Ladies and gentlemen, vincent, one of the things that made my 2024 this year. I met Vincent and then he had mentioned his girl, denise, on my show. And I got to meet Denise and a lovely couple and they both listened to and called my show and I'm so grateful.

Speaker 1:

I was looking at the amount of people on Facebook today wishing Vince a happy birthday and as I'm looking at, I'm looking at Lori Harner, I'm looking at Vince and Denise, who I just mentioned, a couple, but Robin, darlene with a Y, I mean. The point being there are so many people and you know what? They only know each other. You know the reason they know one another. It's because of my radio show. That's why I always say on my radio show, the Pat Walsh radio show, I call it our radio family because it seems like it. We go up here, we have a great you know Darlene has great parties. We hang out, we do the karaoke. You know I get to donate toys to Vincent for his cause, but the whole point is everyone's wishing each other a happy birthday and making new friends. Everyone's wishing each other a happy birthday and making new friends. They were just. Denise was just mentioning how that her and Vincent had met so many people, new people, and basically these are people who listen to the show and my friends. That ain't about bragging, that's just about saying that, for whatever reason, it's creating a very nice community and I'm'm blessed, I'm blessed to be a part of that community. I said like I said, I had some toys here. I donated most of these to uh, to Vincent, for his, his cause.

Speaker 1:

I know you can't see it, I know. Okay, this is where the theater of the mind comes in hold. On, yeah, theater of the mind. Now maybe I'll post a picture. These are the wax lips. Remember wax lips? They look like the rolling stones lips without the tongue sticking out. But remember these, the wax lips. And over here, over here, and the wax lips are obviously red. And then here, by the same company, is the wax mustache. Remember the black mustache is a mustache, mustache, mustache, mustache. So I have both of these the lips and the mustache. Let's wear those for ha, for Halloween one time, just to go old school Also, I have, and you can't see it theater of the mind. I should show this Again. I should take a picture of this. Tower Records Video Books, yo-yo. The other side no music, no life. Remember that A little slogan www tower recordscom. Now that's vintage, I'll never get rid of that. I got a solar santa over there. And then this let me see if you can guess what this is. You know what?

Speaker 1:

I might not even tell you what it is. I might just make the sound, see if you know what it is and then see if anyone calls my radio show tonight. I'm going to try a little experiment. I'm going to try an experiment. I'm going to play this whistle. It's a whistle, I just gave it away. It's a whistle, so you don't even. It'll become obvious when I blow into it that it's a whistle, so I'll give you that. Here's my little experiment I just thought of because I like to cross-promote my show and my podcast.

Speaker 1:

If you can identify this whistle and you are the first person to call my radio show tonight 916-921-1530. I've never given that phone number on my podcast 916-921-1530, 800-834-1530, toll free you could call my show anytime tonight and go hey, pat, I was listening to your Pat's Peeps podcast today and you said if I can identify the whistle, then I will win a four pack of tickets. I mean a four pack of tickets to Bill Engvall. Now, everyone loves that guy, bill Engvall. Now everyone loves that guy. Bill Engvall, great comedian. If you call me on my show tonight, I'll give you a four-packet tickets to the first person who says hey, I heard your podcast. Bill Engvall's going to be. Oh God, I forgot the date. I think it's the 11th. I think I think it's the 11th of January. I could be wrong. You'll have to Google that. So if I play this whistle, you call my show. You say, yeah, I know what that whistle was. I'll give you four packet tickets to Bill Ingvall. How about that? All right, here we go. Here we go. I think I can make two different tones out of this, I'm not sure. All right, here we go. All right, here's another. Let me see if I can change the tone up. Hold on, it's a pretty basic whistle. All right, now, what song is this? That's always the go-to, like it could be the middle of, you know, july, and you've, and you got a little whistle or something, little slide whistles, of which this could be, you never know and you go, hey, uh, hey, honey, what's this song, know, dear? Well, let me play it for you. All right, dear? Oh, I actually think I got the tune right on this little whistle that sounds like jingle bells. You're right, honey, that's good dear. Happy Independence Day. You know, it could be any time of year and jingle bells will come up. So there's the whistle. All right, I'm pretty good on this? Or is it just in my mind? Did that sound like jingle bells, 916-921-1530. Call in tonight. Tell me what kind of whistle this is. When I say, patrick, what do you mean? What kind of whistle? Well, I mean what kind of whistle? That's what I mean. So I don't really want to give it away too much. It's an iconic whistle. All right, I'll give it that Iconic whistle. I can't wait to see if anyone calls in on that tonight.

Speaker 1:

What else do I have? Oh, I have a solar-powered Santa Claus over here. Oh, he's dancing. He's solar-powered. When the sun hits, santa, he dances. He does like a little hula, oh yeah. And then I got a pig. Hold on a second. I got a pig that walks. Watch this. Yeah, when pigs walk, watch this, it's walking. It's actually pretty creepy, that's pretty creepy.

Speaker 1:

It's nose pops in and out. It's walking towards me. Creep city man. Anyhow, mention. I went to the Ram Niner game the other night in the pouring rain. Debo Samuel dropped the ball right to him and then his buddy Devontae Campbell. Well, their linebacker walked off the field. We all know the story. Debo Samuel talked about him on cleats and convos. Cleats and convos yeah, baby.

Speaker 2:

Cleats and convos. What is up? Everybody Live in the BR app. Welcome to another episode of Cleats and Convos with Debo Samuel, presented by State Farm.

Speaker 4:

Like a good neighbor. State Farm is there.

Speaker 1:

Oh, they got the plug in Live moods. At Live Moods, debo Samuel at 1. Debo SR. Or the alternative address 1. I Dropped it. At 1, I Dropped it. It's weird watching how they do stuff these days in interviews. Both of them you got the host and Debo. I'm surprised he hasn't dropped it yet, but he's got this pad like it's like an iPad or some kind of tablet and they're both sitting there looking at the tablet like she's talking to him. He ain't even looking at her, he's looking down at his tablet. It's just weird and rude and odd.

Speaker 1:

Debo talk to me.

Speaker 2:

This is your show. How are you feeling about the last week? How are you feeling currently with yourself, with just everything, life?

Speaker 4:

I'm doing pretty good. Last week was last week. Nothing we can do about it, so I think we just move on past that.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yeah, I'm sure you'd like to. I think I'm going to move on past that. Well, debo, you know that one play where you dropped the ball. I think I'm going to move on past that, thank you. Thank you Appreciate it, yeah, but this is cleats and convo.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but I don't want to talk about something, though that I just want to hear your thoughts on, because I've seen a lot of your other teammates talk about it. Um, especially the leaders on your team have have talked about Devondre Campbell and him quitting on the team during the game.

Speaker 1:

I'll never forget it. Yeah, I remember. That night the Niner guy quit on my Rams. Yo, if you guys did not know that what was it?

Speaker 2:

third quarter left the game. Uh, we've now since heard that there's been some suspension involved. Um, yeah, what are your thoughts on this? I mean, obviously you can't speak too much on what was going through his mind because you're not him, but what are your thoughts on just the situation as a whole? Oh, he's not him.

Speaker 4:

I just think as long as I've been here, there's always been a standard. There's always been, and not only is it coming from the players, but it's coming from the people up top, by the people that they've drafted since I've been here, including my class, and I think it's just like the standard that Kyle, john, jed and them has built around here. Of course it's more so, not all about the game, it's about brotherhood.

Speaker 1:

Do I have to give a trigger warning? I'm never going to give a trigger warning. I think Deebo's going to rip off a few select words here. I can deal with it, I'm an adult.

Speaker 4:

I'm an adult man next to you.

Speaker 1:

It's just how you come about work you see those split shorts he was wearing coming into this. What is going on? I think this guy's more and I'm sorry to interrupt, I think he's more concerned Debo is more concerned about his lame fashion statements. It was one of the worst outfits I have ever seen, especially for a football player. You got split up the side, black like weird t tuxedo shorts. I don't even know what that was.

Speaker 4:

Anyhow, I digress get this situation as in. Like you know um, he was brought in to replace greenlaw, um, of course, that's why he came and I mean, I just look at it.

Speaker 4:

You know, kind of like, from my perspective, as you know, um Drake Greenlaw has been, like um, one of the captains, one of the leaders, one of the main vocal points on our defense, and I feel like, um, we all knew, um, he probably kind of knew as well, like when Greenlaw came back and was healthy enough to come. You know he was, you know he's, he's the guy like yeah one of the main guys on the defense.

Speaker 4:

So, um, at the end of the day, like, um, I would, I wouldn't, I don't think I would, you know, um just say fucking I'm not going in the game. Because, at the end of the day, like it's a standard um, this 49er organization from you know, way before I got here, from listening to Jerry Rice and Steve Young and all those guys about you know, know the culture that you know, this built around this Niners organization, but I think it was a little, you know, it was a little awkward. For sure, I never seen no shit like that happen before and I didn't know too much about it until people really got to talking about it and I was like what, like?

Speaker 5:

when did this?

Speaker 4:

happen. And then you know, at the end of the day, more of the story. You just can't.

Speaker 1:

I don't think like Imagine back in the day, like Hank Aaron or Willie Mays or Joe DiMaggio. You know there was some decorum. You're on an interview Now it's just, yeah, that beep man I pledged, you know, it's just. It's that beep man I play that, you know, it's just it's. I mean, obviously, fcc rules TV. This is much different than TV. This is on streaming on line, but it I get that because just like I could play it on my podcast.

Speaker 1:

You know, in a way, as I think I like to think things through and as I think about that and I'm on the verge of criticizing because I try not to curse, I've been a couple times here and I have, but it's because it was a podcast, right.

Speaker 1:

And then, if I'm going to criticize Debo or anyone else for cursing when it's content televised podcast, what have you? When back in the day they wouldn't do that, your Hank Aarons and your Harmon Killebrews and those guys Ted Williams well, ted Williams was a big cursor but he wouldn't do it in front of women, but you get the point. But if I'm going to criticize that, well then who am I? Does that make me a hypocrite, as I'm thinking about this, for playing it Like, okay, yeah, you're right, pat, maybe they didn't curse back like that. You know, use that kind of language in interviews back in the day, but now they apparently do, unless you're on television, and even then I've seen it national tv. But if you're going to criticize it, then why are you playing it? Because you're allowing it to, and that's a good point. I just had a debate with myself we move on.

Speaker 4:

You should just quit on your team mid-game for sure you can put all your pride to the side and just go out there and lay it on the line for your brothers that you know you've been battling with since, uh march maybe april.

Speaker 2:

Well, unfortunately, it feels like this is now he's going to be branded by this moving forward. You know like these teams do care as he should be culture and not giving up on your teammates. And now that's kind of what you're going to think of when you hear his name, which is unfortunate. What did the locker room after this, when you started to figure out what was actually going on? Did it feel I mean, you said the word awkward could you feel that from him? Did you even see him after the game?

Speaker 4:

no, I ain't seen him I ain't seen him after the game no, he took an uber, so he just bounced uh, I mean, I ain't gonna lie, I wasn't looking for nobody after the game, I was like bro, like you know, did it make you feel angry at all?

Speaker 2:

just, knowing how much this team has gone through and you've had guys that have been through it and have stuck around and have showed up for their teammates, and then he did the opposite.

Speaker 1:

Again, since I'm playing there just a portion of their podcast. Now I find myself playing a portion of a podcast on my podcast. It's Cleats and Convos. It's their episode 10.

Speaker 4:

We're at 176 here, you got guys that's, you know, dealt with like real life shit, like real life situations, and you know they battled, you know they came back, done everything they possibly can do to get back out there and be a part of this team. And you know, you know why, are they holding the tablets? Situations is a little different thing.

Speaker 4:

And looking at them like try to do that to you, or you know, nothing happened to one of your loved ones. Are you battling through an injury? This, that and the third? It was just the simple fact of you know. You was just like no, I'm just not going in.

Speaker 2:

Did that shock you at all?

Speaker 4:

I mean, yeah, Like I said, I ain't never, like I never seen nothing like that before.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and I mean, I guess you kind of have to know him on a more personal level to know if that was something that like you expected, but I guess from your teammates period it doesn't matter who they are as people, you just don't expect that thank you.

Speaker 1:

There he is, debo. I know they're gonna ask about dropping the ball. I'm just gonna just see if she asks about dropping that ball um, well, we can get to the more positive side of that.

Speaker 2:

How important was it to have green law back?

Speaker 1:

okay, never mind, never mind. Uh, my brother steve on another note. Never mind, my brother Steve on another note. Steve and I are very good friends. He lives in West Sacramento and Steve is a drummer. Steve was a drummer, I'm a singer in bands and we're actually hoping to do maybe a couple things together here that I'd like to share with you. But one of the things he does is he shares music with me every day. I told him today. I said you know, you sent me all these songs, steve Marino. Maybe I should share what and I haven't listened to these today that he sent me, but he sends me songs all the time. I thought maybe we should take a listen together just to critique and listen to some of the songs that my brother Steve sends to me.

Speaker 1:

So let's listen to this one Again. I don't even know what this is. All it says is great version. So this must be a cover song of some kind. Let's open it up. See what we have From Steven. This is what is it Waiting to be offended? The Steepwater Band. I don't Waiting to be offended. Is that a cover? I don't know. Let's listen. Guitar solo.

Speaker 5:

I wish I had the key To have you open doors. I know sometimes we slip and need to be careful. Don't you take it to heart. Don't you take it to heart. Don't you take it too far. You're meant to be offended. This is the message you're sending.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if that's a cover of something. I don't know if I've ever heard this Waiting to be offended. Maybe it was the other one. That's pretty good. He likes the Steve Water band. Maybe this next one. This one says he puts the message after the song, so I'm not sure which one. Maybe this is the cover. One of them says dig this groove. So let's see if this is a cover, or let's see if this is a dig this groove. Here we go. What is this fox in the hen house by quaker city nighthawks never heard of them. Here we go. Hen House by Quaker City Nighthawks Never heard of them. Here we go.

Speaker 5:

I mean, if it's a cover, I don't remember. Do the funnels on the streets With those hungry fingers Stained with oil and dirty gasoline? We saw truth out Down by the courthouse steps With a kiss on the lips, but now the providence has left the table. We're stuck with the check.

Speaker 1:

I've never heard that. No, never heard of it. All right, let's see what else he's got up there. This is let's see, play another one here. I just lost my place. Hold on now, steve Marino. All right, let's listen to this one.

Speaker 1:

This one says Dig this Groove, let's check it out. Let's check it out. Here we go. What is this? This is, oh, dramarama. Prayer Ain't got no models in.

Speaker 1:

I don't shoot heroin. I used to change smoke pot and I thought cocaine was hot. Got used to bloody snob and go to heaven in the parking lot. When I stop and think about the light, yeah, I wanna run.

Speaker 1:

I saw my brother years ago. He was laughing. He goes hey, here you go, pat, he goes here. You can have this CD. Because he hated the name, and so do I drama rama. But he gave me this cd and I'm like, hey, man, this is good, I don't have what it takes, I like it. Repeat my same mistakes. You know on the one that on the, on the Dramarama CD that he gave you back in the CD days, it had this song on there which was a Mick Jagger song, and I always loved the song. But Dramarama covered a Mick Jagger solo song and I'll tell you. When I listened to it, I thought wow, this is actually so. We actually talked about cover tunes recently on my podcast and I forgot about this one at the time. This is one of my favorite rock covers. This is a memo from Turner Dramarama.

Speaker 3:

Well, I see you down San Antonio On a hot and dusty night, usually eating eggs and Sammies. Put the black man there to his night. Yeah, you're trying that, june Dalton, as you wash your sleeveless shirt. Know that Spanish-speaking gentleman, the one we all call Kurt, come out, gentlemen, you must misunderstand how forgetful I'm becoming. Now you fix your business straight. I remember you in Hemlock Road back in 1956.

Speaker 5:

Use a baggy little leather boy with a smaller piece of stick.

Speaker 1:

That is so good, man Wow.

Speaker 3:

That is so good man.

Speaker 1:

So anyhow, steve, yeah, good song. I like that. Check this out.

Speaker 1:

I like this and, by the way, this being a Jagger song, reminds me, of course, of the Stones. Yesterday was Keith Richards' 81st birthday and there they are still, out there rocking the world man, one of the biggest selling concerts of 2024. I'm going to wrap this thing up with the record I pulled from my shelf here for Pat's Peeps 176. A couple of days ago I mentioned that I had pulled this record and I wasn't familiar with the song and that I would let you know when I'm going to play the song. Now, if I put it on and I recognize that, that's one thing, but I don't. By just reading the name of it, I don't know the song. I've heard of the band, I imagine what the song might sound like, but I could really be wrong and I don't find a lot about this song, to be honest. It's from this album called man. I'm going to get it wrong. It's 3.V. What is that 3.5? I don't know what that means.

Speaker 1:

It's a third studio album by this American hard rock band, released in 1986. It's on Atlantic. It's a light blue record label. It says promotion copy, not for sale. Same thing on both sides, stereo on both sides, and it failed to chart. It would be their last studio album for Atlantic before being dropped from the label.

Speaker 1:

This album actually just went out of print in 1990. It was then reissued in 07. This was as a part of an import paired with one cd with no telling lies another deleted title. So this is kind of rare. This is super rare to have this 45. It was a standalone compact disc version became a scarce collector's item, so this is probably worth something if anyone's looking for this, and I'll be talking about that in 2025. Anyhow, this album, along with the first two albums by this band, was released on CD again in Japan in 13. And in 16, rock Candy Records reissued the album on CD. In terms of its reception, some have heralded this as to be their best album, even better than their debut Gave the album. Doug Stone from All Music gave the album four and a half stars.

Speaker 1:

Now, in my mind, this song is going to be and I hope I don't know, maybe I'm wrong very commercialized, slick produced, slickly produced hair band sound from 1986. Something I would not normally listen to, even though I love hard rock. That wasn't my little niche. So when I play this record, I hope I'm wrong and I hope I really like it, because a lot of times I have this thought of what a band might sound like and then I realize, wow, I was wrong, so this might be the case. So, without further ado, uh, this is a song called you're only losing your heart, which sounds very commercial to me, sorry, by a band called zebra.

Speaker 1:

Here we go, exactly how I expected it to sound, exactly. Does anyone remember this? Oh, no, no, no, no. This is why I never listen to Zebra. I mean, no offense, it's not horrible, it's just. You know what it reminds me of and I can't even remember their name. They opened up for ELO when I just saw them at the Golden One Center. It reminds me of that band, very poppy, commercialized. It's becoming unreal. You're only losing your heart. It's nothing critical. It's nothing critical. So anyone who wants to claim like, like they, you know, like any critic, wants to claim that this is hard rock. I'm sorry to me, this is not hard rock. I mean you could throw that guitar in there, but still. I mean you could throw that guitar in there, but still that reminds me of Triumph right there a little bit. Thank you for listening. By the way, I don't have the rights to this music, I'm just trying to critique and educate and all that. Thank you so much for listening to Pat's Peeps 176. Thank you for making my podcast a success. Merry Christmas to you.

Speaker 5:

We'll see you on the radio.
