Ep. 185 Today's Peep Hits the Road for a Workout, Then to Pete's Brewhouse for a Friendly Gathering with Like-Minded Locals, New Year's Health Goals, A Brother's Rams-Vikings Rivalry, And I LOVE Today's B-Side
Have you ever wondered how sports fandom can transcend geographical boundaries and create lifelong connections? Join me as I embark on a lively trek through the picturesque Northern California foothills, where I muse over my New Year's resolutions, blending health aspirations with business dreams, all while injecting a bit of humor through a Charlie Sheen impersonation. My reflections are interwoven with the thrill of the Rams-Vikings matchup, bringing back memories of classic games and the "curse" of the Vikings, much to the amusement of my brother Jim, a devout Vikings fan.
We're also diving into the delicious struggle of maintaining healthy eating habits, missing teeth notwithstanding, as I recount my resolve to embrace salads and veggies in my diet. Returning to the Pat Walsh Show after a refreshing holiday break, I celebrate the unwavering support of my podcast listeners and envision exciting future collaborations with local businesses. My steadfast loyalty to the Rams and Dodgers, shaped by childhood memories, finds its place alongside a gathering of Rams enthusiasts at Pete's Brewhouse, where stories of legendary players and cherished victories bring fans together.
The vibrant history of the Rams and the remarkable camaraderie among the 916 Rams group resonate throughout our conversations, as fans like Catfish Dave and Vicki share their passionate journeys. We reminisce about legendary players and significant wins, weaving through personal stories that highlight the spirit of Northern California's Rams fans. The episode wraps up with a nod to the unique weather and rich cultural tapestry of the region, rounding off with musical memories that echo through time, leaving listeners with a sense of nostalgia and connection.
with the Pat's Peeps podcast today. Pat's Peeps number 185, 185 peeps. Peeps, synonymous with podcasts, at least in my world. How are you today? It's a monday, sixth day of january. It is gorgeous out today, so I'm out on the road trying to keep up with my new year's resolution to stay healthy. Just one of my resolutions Launch the business. You know, really get in shape if I can do that. So today, you know, the sun was out yesterday, the sun is out today. So I'm not necessarily peering out of my studio windows under the Northern California foothills, I'm actually right now walking through them. Let's go into the train trestle here. You know I have a little superstition when I go into the train trestle here. Oh, you know I have a little superstition when I go into this train. Trust like I to do it. Here we go, gotta hit the wall. Go Rams, go Dodgers, go Celtics. Hey, two of my three. Oh, go Irish. I can't believe it. So so the Rams are going to play the Vikings next Monday night and that's going to be for the wild card. Now the Lions and the Vikings played last night.
Speaker 1:My brother Jim I mentioned this before he is a long time Vikings fan. I'm the oldest of the group. Then is Jim. So I've been a Ram fan forever. And then my brother Jim was a Vikings fan. He's a year younger than me. I've had the pleasure of seeing my Rams win a couple of Super Bowls been to many of them, by the way. There's a special year for me as a sports fan. It could even be more special, because my Dodgers won the World Series, my Celtics won the NBA title, my Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in the you know play at Penn State next week. They're trying to win a college football national championship. And then my Rams. My Rams are at home. They win the West, the NFC West, so they're going to host the Vikings Now my brother Jim and I. This battle goes back forever, and he is a long-suffering Vikings fan.
Speaker 1:There are certain teams that are cursed. There are certain teams that just never seem to get to the promised land that are cursed. There are certain teams that just never seem to get to the promised land. One of those teams that seem to be cursed are the Vikings. Gosh, I could give you so many examples. Remember, Chris Walsh, the play in freezing Minnesota outdoor. It must have been the University of Minnesota, because they must have been building the Vikings' new stadium and I remember Chris Walsh signing up for literally probably less than a chip shot field goal to win that game for the Minnesota Vikings to advance in the playoffs, and it might have been a 15, 20 yarder. Honestly, and before we kicked it, I remember hitting the pause button telling my girlfriend at the time hey, watch this, he's going to miss it. Well, what do you mean? Why do you think that? Because they're the Vikings. Sorry, jim. You know they won some amazing games too, but he missed that field goal. It wasn't even close and they lost, much to the chagrin of the Vikings fan.
Speaker 1:Vikings have been in a few Super Bowls I think three, two or three. They lost them all. Buffalo's been in Super Bowls. They lost them all. So here's the thing, jimbo. You know, if it weren't for my Rams standing in your way let's say it was Seattle or San Francisco or what have you Cardinals coming out of the West the Rams weren't in it. Jimbo, I'll be rooting for you, man, because I know what it feels like. You know you're not supposed to pray to God for stupid stuff like that. Like well, god, please let my team win. No, god doesn't care about that, he doesn't care Whatever, just enjoy it. So I never prayed, but I used to do things like you know, lord, while we're talking, wink, wink, you know I hey, I uh, I'm not, I'm not praying for this, but if I could find it, you know, maybe you know some stupid ground if the rams could ever you know, I wouldn't be, I would be sad. I remember the. Imagine the joy. You know that you would be sad.
Speaker 2:Imagine the joy that you would be providing me, oh God, so stupid Anyhow.
Speaker 1:So that's coming up next week the Rams versus the Vikings. And the Vikings didn't play that well. Last night they lost to Detroit. Detroit filled with a bunch of ex-Rams. Their GM, you know, their quarterback, jared Goff I mean just a lot of that team came from the LA Rams. That's a first time, I believe, in the history of the Lions that they were the top seed on the way to the Super Bowl. That's amazing. Good for them. Dan Campbell, who they laughed at, hey man's doing a great job. Not to mention, the guy actually looks like a Viking. You know what I mean? He actually looks like a Viking. I mean, he looks like a lion, not a Viking. A lion, patrick, a lion.
Speaker 1:Okay, my impersonation of Charlie Sheen, vintage 2011. Here we go, winning, winning. I got tiger's blood. I win here and I win there. Now what, ladies and gentlemen? Charlie Sheen, thank you, thank you, oh golly.
Speaker 1:So this workout's feeling mighty good. You know, I'm doing that thing. I saw a guy on tv saying, okay, one percent of the time, and that's kind of my thing, you know. So I started lifting the weights, doing the push-ups, doing the sit-ups. I'm not overdoing it, I'm out here to get in shape little by little. I mean, quite frankly, right now I'm doing some pretty fast walking. I'm not really even breathing hard, which is a really good sign. I'll continue to jump rope when it's, you know, raining or snowing out until we get into springtime. Excuse me now I cough, but anyhow, yes, I'm going to be out here doing this and more than that.
Speaker 1:It's eating well. You know, I still don't have my front tooth. By the way, it's just so complicated you couldn't even believe it. I'm not going to bore you with that, but that will be fixed, you know. But yeah, eating well, trying to incorporate salads and veggies and everything.
Speaker 1:Now, I know everyone is saying that at the beginning of the year, everyone has their New Year's resolutions. You know, try to keep to it. You know, I think I may, if you like. I don't know if I'll be able to update you on my routine every day or if that would be too boring, but maybe, as an incentive for those of you who want to those of us, but maybe as an incentive for those of you who want to those of us, not just me, maybe you can motivate me as well, just to keep doing this stuff. Man, let's stick with it this time. I've done so much already this year that I put off, and it's only the sixth and I'm going to keep doing it.
Speaker 1:So yeah, and here's the other thing. I have had two extremely wonderful weeks off, two weeks of vacation, all through Christmas, all through New Year. Tonight I get back to work. Tonight, back to the Pat Walsh Show and I'm really looking forward to talking to everyone. Pat Walsh Show, of course, heard on KFBK in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM, and heard everywhere, national and internationally, on the free iHeart app, just like you can hear the podcast Pat's peeps. So back to work. Tonight, after two weeks, kitty O'Neill's coming back, my colleague, our anchor in the afternoons with her show.
Speaker 1:So yeah, first time in two weeks, I'm eager to get back to my show. At the same time, I've enjoyed my vacation very much and part of me is like, yeah, I think I just want to keep being on vacation and do my podcast. But you know what, my friends, my peeps, my Pat's Peeps, who I adore, all of you I made the promise before I went on vacation on my show, from my show, that I would continue with my Pat's Peeps podcast through my vacation and I did that I did it. So, to all of you who have been reaching out to me telling me how much you enjoy the podcast, I am to say I'm grateful. Is is underselling it. I'm so blessed, so grateful. It means the world. Here's the thing. And without really, you know, spilling all the beans, the more of you that can come to my podcast and look, I know my podcast and look, I know my podcast is not about I've said it before it's not about baseball or cigars or bowling or whatever. It's about everything or it's about nothing the more of you that listen to the podcast, that will begin to support local businesses in 2025 and get great deals. Guess what? That's a great thing for me. That's a great thing for me. That's a great thing for my web designer, dan, who wants to design your website if you own a local business. My business doctor, john Pyron. It's great for you because, I mean, hopefully you enjoy the podcast. But we have about six or seven businesses up there right now, but we don't really want to make this huge announcement until we have all of our 20 or 25 businesses up and now, but we don't really want to make this huge announcement until we have all of our 20 or 25 businesses up and then we'll have a bunch more joining us, including, hopefully, yours. I want to promote you. So it's all going to happen in 2025. It is going to be a great year. Stay optimistic, stick to your routines, your New Year's resolutions, you know yesterday.
Speaker 1:If I may, just going back to football real quick, people always ask me how in the world, patrick, did you become a Rams fan and Dodger fan, speaking of baseball and football, how'd you become a fan of those teams from Northern California? As if it's some kind of affliction. And that goes way back. I've said it before. Back when I was a kid, people would say, whoa, how come you don't root for the local teams? And I would say, what local teams? When I was a kid I'd say this Well, you know the Raiders and the 49ers and the Warriors and the Giants and the A's. I said I kind of like the A's, but why would I have to root for a team from Oakland or San Francisco? Why them? I mean I have no affiliation, no loyalty to them. I mean I don't really even care for San Francisco or Oakland that much. So, quite frankly, I did have some good times growing up as a kid visiting in Los Angeles. But it wasn't even about Los Angeles either. It was just about that horn on the helmet, what have you? So for me it was Roman Gabriel and it was the uniforms and the horns on the helmet.
Speaker 1:So yesterday I had the opportunity as we continue Pat's Peeps 185, to visit Pete's Brewhouse. This is in the how about? Arden Shopping Center down in Sacramento and it's the home of the 916 Rams group. So the 916 Rams group are folks who are similar to me, who most of them are from Northern California, sacramento or Northern California and for whatever reason, sacramento or Northern California and for whatever reason, all have their own reasons. Well, one of the ladies here is from Southern California, but they all have their own reasons for liking this team that we're apparently not supposed to like when we live in Northern California.
Speaker 1:So with that in mind, I headed over yesterday through on my Eric Dickerson jersey to celebrate the fact that Eric still stands number one in terms of single season rushing yards. I know Saquon Barkley sat out. He could have perhaps eclipsed that record in an extra game, but 17 games versus Eric doing it in 16, versus again OJ doing it in 14. So I wore my Dickerson jersey. His record still stands and I had the opportunity and it was so fun at Pete's Brewhouse, home of the Rams fan, to get to know some of the other Rams fans. So let's head to Pete's Brewhouse. All right, patrick here. This is Pat's Peeps 185, and today I'm in. I'm not sure whose house is this. Who's house? Ram's house?
Speaker 2:Ram's house. Who's house, ram's house? Who's house, ram's house, who's house, ram's house? Go Ram's.
Speaker 1:This is Pete's Brewing Company. Right, this is Catfish, dave. How you doing, brother? Thank you. Oh man, it's good to meet you. So here's the deal. You know I'm always, and then we're with the 916 Rams group. Here's Tom. All of these good people from the 916 Rams are here. So everyone always asks me how in the hell did you become a Rams fan when you're from Sacramento, northern California? Right, I'm from Sacramento, from Elk Grove. I've always been a Rams fan. I've always been a Dodgers fan. That's just the way it is. I love those two teams and I always tell people. You know for me, my pops.
Speaker 1:When I was a little kid, he said okay, boys, I got these brothers. We had six kids. He told me, and my brothers? I'm the oldest. He said go take a nap. I didn't want to take a nap. I didn't like taking naps.
Speaker 1:So I hid under his table next to his recliner. He was watching a game. Must have been the Rams or the 49ers, I didn't know. I was only a baseball fan. I didn't know too much about football.
Speaker 1:The guy with the horn on his helmet scored a touchdown and I got excited. I hit my head on the table. My dad looked on the table. What are you doing up there, son? I said I want to watch football. So he let me sit on his lap and watch the football game. From that point on it was Roman Gabriel, and my whole life I have been a Los Angeles Rams fan and I never gave up on him when he went to St Louis, I was still a fan, I still went there. I still went to two of the games. I went to the championship game in 99 against Tampa Bay, the great Ricky Paul catch. I always tell people I'm such a fan. I can name more Rams that are so forgotten about that you could ever name starters of your team and I'll roll them off right now Frank Stamms, elvis Peacock, duval Love. We could go on and on.
Speaker 4:I'm back to Fred Breyer, Merlin Olsen, Jack Youngblood, Larry Brooks. That was a starting defense Larry Brooks. Then Hadle was the quarterback, Then the next year James Harris was the quarterback for the Rams. First black quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 1:Lawrence McCutcheon rookie year With Colin Bryant and Hadle was number 21. When's the last time you see a quarterback with number 21? Came from the Chargers. That's when they went to the yellow and blue uniforms. Come on, we are fans he had to change that number.
Speaker 4:Norman Cromwell our safety.
Speaker 1:That's right, norman Cromwell, am I right? That's right, norman Cromwell, then?
Speaker 4:we got Capoletti, colin Bryant, his big fullback. Capoletti was out of UCLA. Why we drafted him I never understood. He wasn't that good and we had.
Speaker 1:Pat Hayden, who in 1976, still owns the record tied for the biggest victory deficit. However, you would say that in a game when they beat the Atlanta Falcons 59-0 at the Coliseum 59-0. Here's Vicki. I understand, vicki. It's nice to meet you. By the way, hi, nice Rams shirt. I understand you're like the longest tenured. I don't know if I'm supposed to say that, but that's what they told me. The longest tenured Rams fan.
Speaker 5:Yes, 59 years.
Speaker 1:Okay, so are you from Sacramento? I'm from Southern California, so that's how you became a Rams fan. You were from Southern California, so who did you come into the league when the Rams? When you first started liking the Rams, who were you watching?
Speaker 5:Roman Gabriel, you know that whole.
Speaker 2:Dick Bass.
Speaker 5:Yeah, the whole era. My dad was city government, I lived in Bellflower and so our parades we always had the Grand Marshals and so I just started liking it and I just never stopped. I'm faithful for every change, even through Georgia. I'm sorry, georgia, but come on. I know, I know, but yeah, so I just diehard Rams. I have one son Ram, one 49er. You've got to do it. Oh, no what, their dad was a 49er. Yeah, you gotta do it, oh no, what happened?
Speaker 1:What happened? Their dad was 49. We were coming out of the dome Edward Jones dome in 99 after they beat Tampa Bay in the NFC Championship game to come out and my buddy and I are not Georgia fans and she's standing right there. She's this guy. Look like paladin, all dressed in black, black cowboy hat, black cowboy boots. He's like there's Georgia. Let's get on that. Yeah, I her on Abigail. I'm getting away from her.
Speaker 4:I'm gonna kick her. We were not fans.
Speaker 1:So so now that's catfish day, that's Vicki, and you have. You have a daughter over here, erica hi, erica hi, that's a very nice Braden Fisk jersey that you're wearing there today. Thank you.
Speaker 6:Where'd you get a Braden Fisk jersey? I got it from the stadium.
Speaker 4:I'm a season ticket holder that is is so cool From Sacramento, from Sacramento.
Speaker 1:Sacramento. So these are your parents, and they were just showing me a picture of when you were born.
Speaker 7:Yeah, what they did when you were born. Tell us what. Tell us and this is your dad what did you do for your daughter there, erica?
Speaker 4:What did I do when she was born? I did what I was going to do for her. It was supposed to be a boy, right, and I had his name picked out.
Speaker 3:She doesn't look like a boy. No.
Speaker 4:David Ram's, my last name, right, we had a girl. They told us it was going to be a boy all the way up until she was born. So we got a call. She was born, I went down there, brought her home in a Ram blanket and she still has the picture to this day. That was 1987, september 29th 1987.
Speaker 6:Now everybody knows my birthday, that's all I am.
Speaker 1:So and you've just been a Ram man your whole life, then that was it my whole life. There was no choice. Or you just said that's it. I love that.
Speaker 6:No, I mean it's really hard once you watch a team that not everybody else likes and you watch them your whole life.
Speaker 1:It's so hard to change. Oh, I wouldn't you can never change.
Speaker 6:You gotta go through the thick and thin right I love the football season.
Speaker 1:Who was the? Who was the players? When you first remember watching the rams?
Speaker 6:I remember he, my dad got me a kevin green jersey. That was my first jersey I remember it was way too long for me it was like down to my knees Because there wasn't very many sizes at the sports store in Sacramento.
Speaker 1:You know Kevin Green. Just a reminder, kevin Green, and I'm sorry the game started in the second half. I'm taking your time. I'll finish this. You know, kevin Green. I love Kevin Green. God rest, god rest, kevin Green. What a wild man, what a wild man, what a wild man.
Speaker 7:How did we let him go?
Speaker 1:But every 49er game. He'd be like I hate the Niners, we're going to get the Niners, I hate the Niners. Then he's a Niner. I'm like Kevin. Why are you one of the Niners? Wait, wait a minute. Something went askew there with me in terms of Kevin, but God rest him. That guy was and he had such a great attitude.
Speaker 4:There's one player that hurt me when he went to the 49ers, number 64,. Linebacker for the Rams Hacksaw Reynolds Come on.
Speaker 2:Do I know my team? Do I know the team? Come on I know this team.
Speaker 4:When he came out in that uniform I literally wanted to throw up. I was so sick. Yeah, you and me both. Man Wendell Tyler went to the 49ers from the Rams. He fumbled on the Rams. He goes to the 49ers and he can't fumble.
Speaker 1:It killed me. I didn't care when I got OJ have OJ. But you can't have the other guys you can have OJ all day long.
Speaker 4:Jim Everett for years was my favorite quarterback.
Speaker 1:I still remember God. That's such a memory. Anyhow, teresa, nice to meet you. Are you from Northern California too? I am from Northern California. By the way, I love your name. That's my mother's name, teresa, and you have your son here with you, right? Yes, my son, alex, alexander, alex, nice to meet you, man, nice Ram gear. So, teresa, how did you become a Ram fan from Sacramento?
Speaker 8:I married into this, did you? Yes, I married into it, oh where?
Speaker 1:is he? He's over there, or see? I guess I shouldn't assume. But I think I'm going to you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4:You should have brought a Rams jacket.
Speaker 8:I do have my Rams jacket here. It's a lucky Rams jacket, so you married into it, did. It's the lucky Rams jacket here. It's the lucky Rams jacket, so you married into it yes.
Speaker 1:Did you have the passion for football?
Speaker 8:Did you have a different team?
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, I'm in two fantasy football leagues, but did you have a passion for the game before you married? Oh yeah, and did you have another team? Yes, did they have to?
Speaker 8:switch you to this team. So I carry passions. But I will say that the community here in Northern California for Rams they're so great we have such a great 9-1-6 Rams community here and to be around this just like unlike any other team, so I enjoy it.
Speaker 1:I'm just getting to know everyone. It's really great. We're going to talk to Tom in a minute. He's a big part of this Rams 916 group, but I'm going to ask her the question one more time. I'm going to press her on this. Did you have a different team when you married?
Speaker 2:into this? I did who.
Speaker 1:I can't tell you. I knew I had a suspicion. It's not a 49ers Raiders.
Speaker 8:I knew it. Here's the thing Raiders and Rams. Erica's partner is also a Raiders fan and we have such love for each other. I think the LA part of it Is the reason we have love for each other. The hate for the Patriots is also why we have love for each other. We do our hate for the 49ers.
Speaker 7:Is why we have love for each other. Yeah, I'll tell you a high five on that.
Speaker 8:We both start with R and A. Yes, I'm telling you right now, there's so much love between these two teams that it was an easy choice for me to also support.
Speaker 1:I'm glad that you're a Rams fan. I'm glad that you saw the light at some point.
Speaker 8:Well, I gave first to a Rams fan Changed your ways. This is like a I gave birth. This is a full since he was born Rams fan.
Speaker 1:Alex, nice to meet you, man. I like your gear. Thank you, tell us about growing up a Rams fan in this family.
Speaker 3:You know, later, when I started to learn about football, I didn't know any other team. So basically, I went to some store and I just saw these like football guys and like in these cards, and I thought, oh, this looks interesting, let me buy it and see what it is. And I'm just looking through these cards and like don't even know who these players are. And honestly, after, when I got home, I saw a little bit of football and then I got like really interested to it. I played it too, I played football too, but like I just never watched it. And then, you know, ever since I learned about the Rams I already knew. Like ever since I heard about the greatest show on turf, I was like, oh my gosh, this team is great. And then Steven.
Speaker 3:Jackson, jim Emmerich, willie Henderson, you know. And then I heard about some guy named Bob Waterfield and I'm like oh okay.
Speaker 1:I love that he knows the history of this team, bob Waterfield, yeah.
Speaker 3:We beat the Browns twice 1951. That's right, Championships yeah.
Speaker 1:There weren't Super Bowls.
Speaker 3:There were championships.
Speaker 1:Counts just as much as the Super Bowl. No one wants to even say that, but it's absolutely true.
Speaker 3:They were the champions of the National Football League, which is the same thing as the Super Bowl is right, and those were the times where there was only 14 games instead of like 17 games like we have now. And you know, I don't know.
Speaker 1:Ever since I got to look through cards I've just been searching up these players and who they are, and everything, just to know their stats, their, I don't know the numbers.
Speaker 3:Who's your favorite player of all time? Of the Rams, you know one or two Marshall Folk, oh my God, yeah, good choice. And then. So that's like my all time. If it was right now, puka, right here.
Speaker 1:Puka's so great man. You know, and I love Puka's attitude. He's always smiling. The guy's always in a great mood. Look at him sitting on the sideline. They show him as we're talking about him. He's sitting in a hoodie. The man literally has a grin on his face at all times. He's just like such a positive influence on this team.
Speaker 3:Yes, the only reason how he ever got a fight with that Seattle player like last time is because that guy was like legit, pushing him behind his back, literally hitting on him and then. So that's why Puka, he already knows he's not going to take that, he's going to like fight back and defend himself you know?
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, of course, All right. Just before I get to the 9-1-6, just one more question, Sorry, yeah, of course. All right. Just before I get to the 9-1-6, just one more question.
Speaker 1:Sorry, I'm taking all your—we are watching the game, by the way, it's not like we're not watching the game. By the way, who wants to say something about Pete's Brewhouse? Anyone want to say something about this? Great— Excellent, excellent pizza, excellent pizza, pete's Brewhouse. This is the— they take care of us. This is about the how About Arden Shopping Center, right, and this is where the Rams 916 group meets. Tom is part of the 916 group. Tom, tell us about the 916 group.
Speaker 7:Sacramento group. Oh boy, we started like three years ago. It was born out of the Rams groups on Facebook and Chris had noticed that a few people would say where they were from and he'd say Sacramento, because we've got Ram right in our name. That's true, that's part of my history. It says Ram right in Sacramento. So, yeah, it grew out of that and Chris has more history on it. I just know that. I've been there since day one.
Speaker 4:Well, it's a great group. Yeah, of course my daughter. How I found this place? My daughter came here last year in the playoffs. She had to sit way over here. One little table. It was packed People from Modesto, reno, everything comes down here. So this playoff you want to come somewhere and have great food and be around great Rams fans, come here. I'm going to say Chris's name. That's Chris, chris. Can we just say his name?
Speaker 2:Yeah, say Chris's, name, sure.
Speaker 4:That way, baby big boy.
Speaker 1:Now here's the thing Demarcus Robinson just made a great catch. You know, and everyone's like oh gosh, demarcus, he hadn't made very many catches in the last couple of years. Anyone who watches the Rams and watches it and knows this team knows, at least in my mind. The same thing happened with Demarcus Robinson. That happened to Shohei Otani in the World Series. Both of those guys if you were watching closely injured their shoulder. But you know what? Neither manager nor coach came out. Dave Roberts didn't come out, sean McVay didn't come out.
Speaker 1:Say, we got a guy. He's got an injured shoulder. We all saw him land on that shoulder a couple of weeks back and then he lightened up. He wasn't even in the game. So he's in there, land on that shoulder a couple of weeks back and then he lightened up. He wasn't even in the game. So he's in there just kind of for a couple of games, just to be seen, without knowing that the guy's injured. And I think this game right here tonight is trying to see how he's doing within that injury. If you watch Shohei in the World Series, we saw him injure himself and every time he swung and missed he would grimace. You know what I'm saying. So I think that's what's going on with him. So this is the 9-1-6 group.
Speaker 4:We need Cooper Cupp to step up. Oh.
Speaker 1:Cooper Cupp will be stepping up. These guys are going to be healthy coming in. So here's what I want to do to finish things off. Everyone here claims to be a diehard Ram fan right, everyone. And I believe it because I know they are. But Dodgers and Lakers, well, I draw the line at basketball. Not me. I draw the line at baseball. You draw the line at baseball. You're an Angel man.
Speaker 4:Angel man, I'm a Celtics man, sorry, I worked on the first arc arena for the Lucanville. I had no clue who they were coming to. Sacramento, magic Johnson, larry Bird match up at basketball back in 83-84. The best and the best. We were just talking about that, tom and.
Speaker 7:I were just talking about that.
Speaker 1:I used to look forward to that as much as I did Dodgers or Ram games. That was a good time. So I'm going to go around and we'll finish with this. Okay, I want you to give me one or two, whatever you want. See how diehard of a Ram fan you are Garoppolo back to pass and it gets sacked. Of of a ramp fan you are Garoppolo, back to pass and he gets sacked. Give me one or two obscure rants. I'm going to go hold on. I'm going to go one at a time. I want to see it on.
Speaker 1:you Don't give it away yet now I want to see if you can name one or two obscure, like oh, I forgot about this guy, he didn't even get that much time or nothing. Who got one? Just someone that played with Rams over the years you just remember, never really got that much like Robert. Holcomb. Oh, you know what? No, all right, theresa.
Speaker 8:No.
Speaker 2:I don't, I can't think of an obscure one Like that's the only like Was that a Rams score?
Speaker 1:Do your thing.
Speaker 4:Wasn't a Rams score. Field goal, field goal oh.
Speaker 2:Whose house, rams house. Whose house, rams house. Whose house, rams house? Let's go Rams.
Speaker 4:Erica, you got an obscure Rams.
Speaker 6:I can think of one, but I can think of somebody who should have played that never fully made it All right A few years ago. Remember Lance McCutcheon? Yes, that's a great one. Why isn't he playing?
Speaker 1:now and his dad played for the Rams.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Because of his dad right. I believe so yeah, and he was really good. What did you say? That's a great call and so yeah.
Speaker 4:That's Lance McCutcheon. Oh yeah, lance McCutcheon's son, that's right. He was the rookie when I started. He was really good. I wondered the same thing. That's a great one. What about you, Captain, my guy that everybody's forgotten about and was great Henry. Ellard, henry Ellard, wide receiver for the Rams. He was a one man show. Although not obscure, though Not obscure, but still one of the great Rams, I'll say that, but they've forgotten about him Whenever they mention great Rams and who threw a lot of passes.
Speaker 1:I'll give you an obscure one. I had a million dollars, but I'm going to play off of your obscurity. Who threw a bunch of passes to him? To Henry Ellard, and it wasn't Everett Before that who threw the passes to him.
Speaker 4:I'll even give you a hint Come on longest tenured.
Speaker 1:Who threw passes? Who threw passes to Henry Ellard? He came from the Canadian Football League. Dieter Brock oh, Who'd you?
Speaker 4:say Tom gets it. I didn't say anything, I went blank.
Speaker 5:Dieter.
Speaker 4:Brock, dieter Brock, I forgot, we got Frank Stans and Duval Love and Elvis Costello.
Speaker 1:I mean Elvis Costello, elvis Peacock I mean yeah.
Speaker 4:Tom, give me an obscure one, even though you just did Give me an obscure one, Vicki.
Speaker 7:That's not obscure Like some guy that didn't get.
Speaker 4:Remember Daryl Henley.
Speaker 1:Remember he went to prison for trafficking drugs and then he hired a hitman yeah, and then he hired a hitman to kill the judges and the witnesses, I mean when I think about it.
Speaker 8:you know that OBJ and Vaughn Miller were both on the Rams and I think that people forget that. That's true, they forgot.
Speaker 3:Clay Matthews. That's Clay Matthews. Dude, that's a good one. There was also one thing During the last season his last season, he played for the Rams and that was Joe Naiman Joe Naiman.
Speaker 4:He knows his history. He knows his history, he knows Ricky Paul.
Speaker 1:Who injured Trent Green to open the door.
Speaker 4:That's a San Diego Charger who opened it. Preseason. Who hit him? He was known as a dirty player at times. Who was it? I started crying when he went down. So did Dick Vermeule. I was watching and they said Kurt Warner, and I thought who the heck? Rodney Harrison? Rodney Harrison, the one that went to the Patriots. Rodney Harrison, that same player, the guy that hit Trent.
Speaker 1:Green and hit his knee. Rodney Harrison.
Speaker 4:We will start Kurt Warner and we will play good football. And we did. We did Play good football, play great football, greatest goal in history.
Speaker 1:All right, I'm going to go around here and I'm going to say it. Thank you to Vicky, the longest tenured Ram fan, for being on my Pats Peeps podcast 185. Thank you to Tom from 916 Rams fans. I appreciate you. Catfish, dave, I appreciate you and your enthusiasm. His daughter, erica, pleasure and I loved your pick on obscurity. Teresa, pleasure to meet you. Thank you, alex, you're awesome. I appreciate you. See, that wasn't hard, was it? No, you did good, that wasn't too hard, right, and that's why you live in Sac Rams Mitchell, that's why we're Rams fans, right? Yeah, absolutely, one, two, three go Rams, go Rams, thank you, all right. So we got one Ram fan. He was leaving here and he says you know, I wish I wouldn't have wimped out and I wish I would have been on the podcast. Well, just your luck. I heard you say that, so you're going to be on the podcast. Well, I'm honored.
Speaker 9:What's your name? My name is Carl Chapin. Carl Chapin, you bet. Obviously are you a Northern California Ram fan. Yeah, Northern.
Speaker 4:Northern. I actually grew up in Paradise, california, no kidding, yeah, my mother lived in Paradise, no way.
Speaker 1:I lived in Chico. I went to Chico State, so did.
Speaker 4:I Went to Butte College. Come on now. I went to Butte College and I went to Chico State.
Speaker 1:Come on, no kidding, see, I knew this had to happen right here. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4:Where'd you go to high school?
Speaker 9:Well, when I was real little like fifth grade and younger, up until fifth grade I lived in Southern California and it just when I what sealed the deal actually is, when I was in paradise one of my best friends in life said he liked the Rams and I had come from LA, you know, but I was real young. And I just said, you know, I like the Rams and I had come from LA. You know, but I was real young and I just said, you know, I like the Rams too. And so I mean I would say officially I became like I said about. Since fifth grade I've been a Rams guy.
Speaker 9:Even though I've lived my whole adult life and high school life in 49er country. I've been a Ram fan.
Speaker 1:Now you say you're Paradise, say you went to Paradise High School. I went to Paradise High School. I'm not going to ask you unless you volunteer. It doesn't even matter what year you're in. Did you know Mark Cullen, jack Andrews, I'm not feeling it, perhaps about our age. Maybe you went to Paradise High School. I graduated in 1981. 1981. Yeah, 1981. Yeah, 1981. Yeah, man, I'm actually getting ready to do a podcast from Paradise because I want to go up in the next. I'm going to go up with some meet with some fire people up there and we're going to talk about what's been happening with the rebuilding of Paradise. It's such a beautiful town, sure.
Speaker 9:I remember Paradise the way it used to be and I'm sure, as you remember, I got friends still living there. Yeah, I, I go up there frequently. Yeah, somewhat frequently.
Speaker 1:Yeah, oh, it's brutal. Well, it's always interesting to me, carl, to find out how we in northern california became ram fans. I mean, you know, when I was a kid I don't know about you people say and they still say this to me you're a ramp band and all the guys. But when I was a kid they say, well, how come you're a ramp band? I mean I don. But when I was a kid they'd say, well, how come you don't want a ramp band? How come you don't like the local? I mean, I don't know. They'd say, how come you don't want a ramp band? Why don't you like the local teams? And I'm from Sacramento and Elk Grove and I used to say, well, who are the local teams? Well, you know the Raiders and the 49ers. I just it's just the way it was. So it's very nice to find that there's other people who are. You know, we are minded. What's that? I am minded Right Sort of. You know, in an area where there's not think there are more than they want to tell us.
Speaker 9:I was surprised how many people have season tickets that live in this area.
Speaker 1:It's impressive, carl, if you want to be on the podcast, pat's Peeps, number 185. It'll be up tomorrow afternoon. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir, and also listen to the Pat Wall show on radio, on KFBK. I would appreciate that If I ever see you again, I'll have a tooth in my mouth.
Speaker 4:I'm waiting for my tooth to show tomorrow, so in case you thought this dude ain't got a tooth, you'll know why that was Carl. Thank you, man, you bet Thank you.
Speaker 1:Well, it is tomorrow. Today is what was just tomorrow, so that was yesterday. I had a good time. Thank you to the Sacramento 916 Rams group. Thank you to Tom who invited me, chris and everyone who was there. It's really great to meet all those folks here. Listen to Pat's Peeps 185. I greatly appreciate it.
Speaker 1:Monday, the sixth day of January Gosh, it's a beautiful day. You know it's not summertime, but it is beautiful day here in the winter Only in California I could probably put the convertible top down and cruise. I bring that up because I plucked a record from my rare record collection, my 45s, and this one I see right away. This is on. We haven't got to this record label yet. T-neck Records, t-neck T and thenEC. This is a white, off-white label and it has a radio station stamp, like someone took a stamp and stamped it March of 74. The record it's 1973, t-n-a-c Records Inc. So I guess T-N-A-C is distributed by Columbia Records. It says CBS Inc. Blah, blah, blah Even has the address in case you want to write them CBS Inc. 51 West 52nd Street, new York City. Let's see. Oh, it's a mono, not for sale. It says right there, one side is the stereo version, the other side is the mono version. Now.
Speaker 1:This song boy this is a bit. This was a big hit Boy. This was a radio station staple. I always liked it. Soft rock 106. Although it can be played on all kinds of there's other genres, I think, other than soft rock that this guy played. But that's what it is soft rock. It's a soft rock duo.
Speaker 1:It's a title track of their fourth studio album. It was released as the album's lead single in August of 72. This song went to number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart of the US in 2013,. Excuse me, it was ranked at number 13 in Rolling Stones, who now sucks, and I'm going to say that every time I come up to Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone, who used to be good now, who now suck their best summer songs of all time. Quite frankly, I don't give a crap about Rolling Stone.
Speaker 1:Rolling Stone, who used to be good now, who now suck their best summer songs of all time. Quite frankly, I don't give a crap what Rolling Stone thinks of the best summer songs of all time. Seriously, don't care, and there's many reasons. You know what? That's a future podcast, by the way. You know. Glam out the Boston Bombers scumbags. That's for a whole different thing. I don't want to ruin the vibe, so let's see. What else can I tell you about this? Yeah, it's about, I'm just going to leave it at that Summer breeze makes me feel fine, right. Seals and Crofts 1972 big hit. Hold on, wait a minute. Here's the deal. This is the remake. It isn't Seals and Crofts. This band tended to do some really cool cover tunes, including, if you get a chance, listen to their cover of Stephen Stills.
Speaker 1:Love the One You're With you know, who did Summer Breeze, who covered it really well, Tell me what you think. Now there's part one and part two by the Isley Brothers. Here's part one.
Speaker 2:No, no, no, no. Swall in my mind. No, no, no, no, it's all in my mind. Summer breeze Makes me feel fine. I'm on. Summer breeze Makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind. Summer breeze, Summer breeze Makes me feel fine. Bl blowing through the jasmine in my mind, all in my mind. See the curtains hanging in the window in the evening on a Friday night, a little light shining through the window, let's me know everything's alright. Oh, summer, you make me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind. Summer breeze makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind. Sweet days of summer, the jasmines in bloom. July is dressed up and playing a tune when I come home from a hard day's work and you're waiting there. Not a care In the world.
Speaker 1:So I don't have any rights, licensing or anything to this music. I'm not trying to make any money off of it, trying to educate and expose the music. You know, one question there is. I have one question here. Well, I'm very curious about this. Maybe you are as well. Like I mentioned, the Isley Brothers doing that cover. They have part one and then they have part two of the song and I'm kind of wondering why Seals and Crofts could do it on one side of a 45, on their big smash hit, but why the Isley Brothers, in covering it, had to have a different part on each side. So let's take a listen here and find out what Isley Brothers' Summer Breeze Part 2 is like. Oh, much more groovy man.
Speaker 2:Listen to this oh, come on, oh man.
Speaker 1:Oh, this is fantastic. I can't believe I have this 45. The piano holding it down. Oh, I think I'm going to just go out with this. This is so cool, I love it. Okay, this isn't. I'm going to just go out with this. This is so cool, I love it. Okay, this isn't. I'm going to shut up. Thanks for listening to Pat's Peeps 185. See you on the radio. Thank you.
