Speaker 1:

All right, it is Pat's Peeps 186. Welcome. This is the seventh day of January 2025, and it is a gorgeous day out. I'm not really peering out my studio windows into the beautiful foothills of Northern California, I'm actually basking in the sunshine and trying to kill so many. I hate that expression kind of kill two birds with one stone. I'm against killing birds first off. So I ain't trying to kill any birds, but I'm trying to do three things at once.

Speaker 1:

So this morning you know yesterday I was out walking as I'm trying to Continue with my New Year's resolution to be in shape. So today's task is I'm trying to do three things at once. Number one a podcast. Okay, now, these are in no particular order of importance. It's just that, hey, our minds will combine the podcast, you see, with trying to stay in shape. One of the things I'm excited about that I'm in my shed right now. Hey, it's my shed, it's my he shed.

Speaker 1:

You know, eileen and some others who said hey, you motivated me, and so I'm out walking today or I'm exercising. Thank you, eileen, for saying that, thank you for listening to my podcast. Anytime anyone says geez, you motivated me to do something. God, that's so exciting to me. I mean seriously, that's just so exciting. Sherry, sherry, our friend Sherry, said, pat, you know you motivated me to get into radio. I thought what, what on earth did I ever do to motivate you to get into radio Anyhow? So now Sherry's going to be doing radio at this wonderful community station in Nevada City, kvmr, which I've been listening to for years. She's going to be on Saturday mornings, which is my favorite day to listen to KVMR, because they have, you know, ragged but Right, and they've got Bluegrass, the Bluegrass Show and all that. I've been listening to it for years. But so, yeah, so, okay. So doing the podcast, trying to stay in shape, okay, so today.

Speaker 1:

And the third thing is to get a bunch of tasks done that I've been meaning to get done for a while. So this morning, on this beautiful Tuesday, I am out by my shed and in my shed and I'm cleaning and there's a lot of stuff that needs to be cleaned up, from stacking wood to going to the landfill, or, as I like to call it, the dump, and just maintaining this place. You know, it could be to be a task when you live in the foothills, when there's just no matter how hard you try, there's always going to be pine needles on the ground Always. You could rake and blow these things and leaves every single day, but there's still going to be pine needles. I'll tell you what today, heck, I might be getting as good of a workout as yesterday when I was doing my walking, and when I say walking, I I'm going up an elevation to make it a little more strenuous for me. But the great thing is, like I said yesterday, you know, it's one a little bit by a little bit, right? So today I plan on doing this and then, if I get the time, I'm gonna go for my walk, run. So I'm gonna get two aerobic exercises for one and one day.

Speaker 1:

Oh shoot, this doesn't make me happy. My beautiful cover has fallen and is now completely scratched up. Well, that, well, that really that's not going to make me happy, right there, crud? Well, you know that's something I'm going to have to take. Maybe we can buff that out or what have you Anyhow? So that's what I'm doing Trying to stay in shape, trying to complete tasks and do my podcast.

Speaker 1:

Whatever you're doing on this Tuesday, I hope you're doing well. Whatever you're doing on this Tuesday, I hope you're doing well. I also wanted to mention. I'm really excited to announce that I started the Patch Peeps page on Facebook and I've been sending out a lot of invites to my friends on my Facebook page, sent out a couple thousand invites and people are responding and thank you, as we try to really do something different in 2025. Also, just an update we are waiting for businesses to get back to us so that we can promote them and we want to do that for a couple of months for free here in 2025. To get back to us so that we can promote them and we want to do that for a couple of months for free here in 2025. So if, again, if you're listening and you know someone who has a mom-and-pop business okay, a mom-and-pop business we're trying to give you great deals, exclusive deals, pat's Peeps, deals for the peeps and, at the same time, we want to support these local businesses.

Speaker 1:

Like I say, where did you go? Did I just drop my phone? Hello, I think I just dropped it. Okay, the next portion of this podcast will be me attempting to figure out what I just did with my phone. Oh, I think I see it over there. I think I just tossed it. Can you hear Hello? Hello, can you hear me? Ah, yes, 10-4.

Speaker 2:

Oh, there you are. I'm way over there.

Speaker 1:

I'll tell you, this is a real podcast. Okay, I'm finding my phone in the weeds. Hi there, what is this? That doesn't look that great. Yeah, so this place really needs to be cleaned up. I'm so happy to be getting this done. Sheesh, I didn't realize just how much junk there is over here. Now, I don't want to. You've got to look out when you're out here too, and there are critters, and although my wish is not to be bitten by any critters, particularly a snake of any kind, it would make for podcast gold. I'm sure Might be the first time that's ever happened on a podcast. Oh, I have so much stuff to throw away. So this is going to be a several day process. I'll tell you Well, pat, how the heck can I get my business on your podcast to be a Pat's Peeps?

Speaker 1:

Are you telling me, patrick no, I'm in my shed. Oh, this is a mess too that I can that you will promote my business for a couple months? Yes, I will, if you're a mom-and-pop business, if you treat people right, you know, if you're offering a good product and you're local, because I understand, you know that businesses and me being a local business, a startup been doing this, trying to get this going for five years. Now we're right there. There's really, if you don't have a huge advertising budget for TV or radio, let's say, then you rely on social media, which is kind of what I'm doing right now and you guys are responding and I'm so grateful, thank you. But there's no middle ground. I'm the middle ground, as I say all the time. I'm a talk show host in Sacramento. We have a very strong following. This isn't an ego or to brag. This is not. This is just to be honest with you as I try to represent your business in an honest, genuine way. We have a strong following All of my businesses on radio.

Speaker 1:

Now, to let you know, I can't really accept any businesses that I have on radio right now. They have to be separate, completely separate. So I'm talking about anything from a donut shop mom and pop donut shop to a hot rod shop, to candle makers. If you make honey, if you're a carpet cleaner, whatever it might be. As a host that has an audience, I will promote you on my Pat's Peeps, okay, through February. I'll never ask you for one red cent ever. If at the end of that, you seem like you're getting results, we'd love to include you with the Pat's Peeps okay, that's what we want to do, and the idea being I'll's Peeps okay, that's what we want to do. And the idea being I'll promote your business okay.

Speaker 1:

And then the listeners to my podcast and the people that go on to get the merchandise which we're going to have up shortly the Pat Wall Show, the Pat's Peeps merch we're going to have that up there as well and when they go to that store okay, they're going to be able to see and not even just that store that when you go to patspeepscom, again, we only have like six or seven businesses. Feel free to check it out if you want, but again, we don't have all the businesses up there, so it's not limited to those. We're expanding and growing all the time. Then every one of these businesses is going to offer you an exclusive offer and, as I've said before, okay, you don't have to clip a coupon like you have to in a grocery store. When I was in there clipping coupons, I was so frustrated I said you know what I do on the Pats Peeps no clipping coupons. And you know what? Hey, you know what? Hey, get our handy dandy app. Just go to our app. No, screw the app. No app. Do we need an app? Here's what we need to do as a community.

Speaker 1:

If you would, we need to support these businesses and you, my friends, all that is asked of you as a listener, as a peep, is to go into a peep business and go hey, I heard Pat talking about this on his podcast, or I saw this on his patspeepscom, where they have the featured peeps and all the businesses and they said that, for instance, olive oil, let's just pick olive oil, or tacos or a donut. They said you know, I can get this deal here and all I got to do is say my patspeeps and they're gonna go yep, you got it. So the business owner is going to know that you came from our podcast and radio family. Okay, again, I host the Pat Walsh on KFPK, heard nationally and internationally on the free iHeart app, just like this podcast. So that's what it is. That's the business model.

Speaker 1:

Today is January 7th. Even if you don't have a business, if you listen to my podcast, may I ask you to? If you have a business that you think is a great business and they don't get any attention? A yogurt shop, a little knick-knack shop, a clothing store, local. I love the businesses in Auburn, in Placerville, in Nevada City, in Grass Valley, up Highway 50, you know, if you know one, would you tell them, hey, you should get a hold of this guy. It's either pat at patspeepscom or patwalsh at patspeepscom. I'll have to check with my business coach, john Pyron, to clarify that and confirm that. By the way, we also have him available. And Dan Knapp, who is Red Hot Media, who will do your website and maintain your website. I mean up for cheap and he's been my best friend since Butte College. I told you that one on my first podcast. So we've come a long way with this.

Speaker 1:

I don't mean to make Podcast 186 all about business, but we're super excited about it. Can you imagine if we think about this? Can you imagine you get a great deal. The business is getting supported more than they were okay, so that's great. If they get supported more than they usually do, then they're gonna have to hire people, okay, so that's excellent for the community, for the economy.

Speaker 1:

And here's the other thing I want to tell you I will even go to your business and do a podcast. I'll go to your business and shoot video and remember when they used to have flash mobs. I don't know if I'm going to call it a flash mobs, but I want to do like a Pat's Peeps meetup or a Pat's. I've got to think of something else that begins with a P. Maybe I have a suggestion Pat's Peeps Powwow. I don't know, that may not be politically correct. I, that may not be politically correct, I don't know. I'm just thinking. But like, we pick a business right and let's say it's just for sake of discussion a Mexican restaurant, okay, we say, hey, this is a great Mexican restaurant, they serve great food, the service is outstanding and they're offering this deal.

Speaker 1:

So on this day, we're all going to meet up at this time and we're going to show this business that we are literally an army of Pats Peeps who are willing to go out and support our local businesses. Okay, we'll meet up, we'll gather together, we'll eat together, we'll do all kinds of fun stuff. So that's what's on the horizon here at Pats Peeps and this is what's making me so excited. So now I'm standing here, I'm not really moving, as I wanted to explain this to you. So now I'm going to get moving again. Okay, I want to get moving, I want to get getting gear and keep this my heart rate up. Hey, listen. All positive to you in 2025, be strong, stay with it. No quitters day, that's for quitters. Thank you, okay, all right, that's it for now. More to come, yeah, more to come.

Speaker 1:

By the way, just to clarify on that again, I will promote your business through February. I want as many people on board. We are growing this organically and I'm just a guy that likes a handshake. I'm very old school. Okay, no apps, no clipping. Like I said, I'm old school. I'll promote you for a couple.

Speaker 1:

When I say promote, here's what I'll do. I'll mention you on my podcasts. We'll mention you. We'll put you on our webpage on patspeepscom. That's super important, patspeepscom. Patspeepscom that's super important patspeepscom. And, like I said there, I'll never ask a red cent from anyone Now after February. If we're delivering results, if you see customers coming in again because it's also about giving business to the local business, we all win on this okay. So if you're getting results, then after that we would love for you to be part of the Pats Peeps community, if you think it's worth your while, and then we have a whole thing set up. That the reason I'm doing this and I really need to let you know, because you have to survive as a business right is.

Speaker 1:

I spoke to several businesses I know local business. I said what would, what would you pay if someone could provide this to you? And they all came up with the same number and I said that's exactly what I want to hear, cause you know what. That's really cheap Like. I'm talking cheap, inexpensive enough to to keep my business going, to keep supporting you. You see what I'm saying. So after two months, if you say, well, geez, you know I am getting business People coming in are talking about it, I've heard about this, then we're getting attention for you. Let's keep going and let's keep growing together, at that point we'll talk and if you don't want to be a part of it, that's absolutely fine and that's absolutely fine. And that's another thing I love about this man there is no like there is no.

Speaker 2:

What am I hold on?

Speaker 1:

I got something going on. There's no obligation. Okay, I don't know what's happening. I don't know.

Speaker 2:

I must have hit something I don't know what's happening.

Speaker 1:

I don't know, I must have hit something. I don't know what's going on. Well, anyhow, I also hopefully this works Also took another little trip here on Pats Peeps 186. We'll see if you'll be able to hear this. All right, hold on.

Speaker 2:

All right, here we go.

Speaker 1:

Let's see All right as my day continues. Pats, peeps, 185. 186. I now 185. 186. I now find myself 186. Thank you of all places on this beautiful day, at a laundromat.

Speaker 1:

Can you imagine I'm at a laundromat? I'll tell you why. I'm at a laundromat. In the middle of the day here, I didn't think there'd be anyone here, but yet there are people here. I can't believe it. Like three people using the laundromat. By the way, that'd be a good pass. I just stepped out the door just for a second cat here. He's folding up his all his clothes and what have you. I don't want to freak him out and talk next to him. I wonder what I'm doing. See, I had a rug, I have an area rug that I could not wash in my machine, and they've got these industrial machines here, and so I thought you know what? Let me take it down to the laundromat In beautiful Colfax, california.

Speaker 1:

Man, I love this place. Colfax is a gem. If you're going up 80, don't miss Colfax. Stop in, say hi to these businesses. I'm sitting here looking up at a Starbucks, but you know what? Right next to it's a Buzz Thru Joe's. And no disrespect to Starbucks, because I'm sure that's a local franchise person too. But man, buzz Thru Joe's is awesome. If you're going up to Reno or Tahoe or up 80 like this Truckee, what have you? Stop by Buzz Thru Joe's? Tell them Pat's Peep sent you, you're going to love it. It's right off the freeway. They also have TJ's Roadhouse up here, so it's just a beautiful place and I love the downtown area.

Speaker 1:

So, anyhow, I'm in this laundromat, right, I want to go in. Okay, I'm just going to walk in. So what if they? Okay, the guy kind of moved, u2 is playing, u2 is playing. It's really a trip. Because I have to say, if you think about this, like okay, you just left, now I never go to a laundromat, I can't say never. I'm here now. Rarely do I go to a laundromat. I don't disrespect laundromats or anyone that goes there. God loves everyone and hey, the people are doing what they're doing. They're trying to, you know, be clean and healthy and all that and just take care of what they need to do. Not everyone is fortunate, not everyone has a washer and a dryer. But I'm telling you, man standing here, because when you go to the laundromat or when you're cleaning up your yard and you're going to the dump and all this. It's not like you're wearing nice clothes, so you're walking here I'm wearing, I'm wearing these just ugly clothes, like work looking just ugly clothes, and at the same time, I'm missing a front front tooth.

Speaker 2:

Oh my god, oh my god.

Speaker 1:

It is. No, that is crazy to me, I gotta say so. It's just really. It's kind of a special feeling for me on a Tuesday to be missing my front tooth. Also, this might kind of sound kind of random and weird.

Speaker 1:

There is something mesmerizing to me about standing here and looking at these front loader, these big industrial washing machines, front loaders just generally. Well, at least in my case it might be an area rug that just really had too much traffic or what have you. Maybe it got wet or you know whatever Stains on it. You know it was left outside for a minute. It just needed to be washed thoroughly and I'm mesmerized watching it, you know, because it was dirty and now you just watch the suds in there. I'm transfixed on the front load washing machine. I should walk outside. You know they got a recycle guy over here next to us. I should talk to him. Huh, I should talk to this recycling center dude and see what the recycling's all about, because you can recycle up here in Colfax how you doing. You're working this today. Oh yeah, I'm just doing.

Speaker 1:

My name is Pat. I'm doing a podcast. I'm a radio talk show host. I never come to the laundromat. It's just so strange that I'm here today, but can I ask you about the recycling? Yeah, what do you guys? What can people bring in to recycle up here in Colfax, in Colfax? Let me hang up my call. Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were on the phone. I can come back, see, you never know when someone's on the phone these days, you know I walked up to this man, I just thought he was sitting there.

Speaker 1:

Sorry about that guy.

Speaker 4:

What can people bring up here to recycle? We do CRV stuff. That means it's canes, plastic and glass. Okay, nowadays you can recycle 100% use. Before they didn't have CRV. Now they added them up. 100% use, yes, what does?

Speaker 1:

that mean exactly.

Speaker 4:

That's like plastic that is 100% use Before they used to separate. Oh, okay, they didn't carry a CRV because they didn't want to deposit on those. Okay, nowadays we can recycle pretty much everything that you buy in the store, but milk. We cannot take milk jugs.

Speaker 1:

No milk jugs. So what can you not take here? Just milk jugs, just milk jugs, that's it.

Speaker 4:

We can take liquor bottles, wine bottles and this is all new, some of this stuff, yeah yeah. Everything is new. They just add wine bottles.

Speaker 1:

They just this is all new. Some of this stuff, yeah, yeah, everything is new. Like they just have wine bottles, they just add liquor bottles. Oh, no, kidding. So what's your name, by the way, alfonso Alfonso, nice to meet you. I'm Pat. Um, so before, what were you going to?

Speaker 4:

say before what? Before um 2024, we didn't took um a lot of things like wine bottles that were not recyclable. Okay, they have no deposit on them. So now the state of California wants to recycle more, so they add wine bottles, liquid bottles and the 100% use A lot of items that didn't have CRB before. Now we take them Even doesn't have CRB on the stamp yet, because they're given a year and a half for this company to stamp it. Oh Well, that's good to know. Yeah, so even if you see, like a wine bottle that doesn't have CRB on the label, we still take it.

Speaker 1:

What would you say? What's the price that someone would get? What's the difference between like glass and plastic? Glass is $0.

Speaker 4:

Cents per pound, okay, 10 cents per pound. All they can do by pieces, up to 50 pieces a day, okay, a person and that's uh, it varies like if it's over 100, over 24 ounces, it's 10 cents, okay, before 24 ounces it's five cents that you pay in the store, that's what you get back, okay. And then plastic, plastic same thing, same thing. As long as it's under 24 ounces, you get 5 cents, okay, unless you're selling it by weight, then the weight will be on plastic $1.47.

Speaker 1:

I heard something just yesterday. I don't exactly remember what it was, but they were talking about plastic bottles. People return to plastic bottles but they don't return the lids a lot of times. Is that something you know anything about? That they were, they were looking at, maybe doing something where they maybe the lids would attach to the bottle but the state is that's required by the recycling center.

Speaker 4:

Oh, okay, it depends which where you go. Okay, they got. Sometimes they got different rules or different regulations. Okay, yeah, but that's not required. What the state requires. Uh, however, you got your bottle on the store right on the back. Okay, because some people will shoot them or will play with them, will do science with them, and then they're trying to recycle it. We can take it. Oh, you can't take that. It has to be.

Speaker 1:

They try to. If they shoot it, why? Because, I mean, isn't it just mixing up with the rest of it? Why is that?

Speaker 4:

It's just, the state has regulation. You know, it's not the recycling center, it's just they give a lot of rules. Oh, okay so we just have to follow it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, I'm glad.

Speaker 4:

A town cleaning recycling center.

Speaker 1:

What did you say again Town cleaning, town cleaning, and your name is Alfonso Alfonso. So listen, if you're up here in Colfax, I'm always promoting Colfax and I'm telling everyone in Alfonso right now. You know, generally I have a tooth in my face, but I'm missing one right now. So I just come right out in front. So when I walk with you you're like geez, I I'm very self-conscious about, but I was going to talk to you anyway, I get it put in next week. You don't care about that. But I don't care. But I'm just explaining it to you. But thank you for what you do up here and come up and talk to Alfonso. Sorry to interrupt you when you're on your phone, but I really appreciate it, no problem. Yeah, I just figured you were eating lunch or something. I really appreciate what you do. You got a great business. This business has been here a long time right next to the laundromat.

Speaker 4:

You guys have been here for a long time. Yes, we have been here for almost seven years. People up here are nice, huh. Yeah, they're nice, and me personally. I come from Sacramento.

Speaker 1:

Oh, is that right? You drive up here, we drive here every day.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, well, I'm from Sacramento too.

Speaker 1:

I like Colfax. You like it up here. Oh yeah, it's nice, huh.

Speaker 4:

They try to move me to some other places. I like Colfax Nice. I'll say Colfax Nice. I like the people here.

Speaker 1:

You know it's a little bit of a drive, it's worth it, right. And you know what I like too. Sometimes it'll be like cloudy or foggy down in Sacramento. Yeah, it's just so awesome, Alfonso. Pleasure to meet you, brother. Thank you, All right. Enjoy your lunch and good luck with the business and Happy New Year to you, all right, Thank you.

Speaker 2:

Well, hello there.

Speaker 1:

Hi, alfonso. So, anyhow, I figure we might as well go over and talk to him, see what he had to say. Alfonso, let's take a look at let's see Alfonso's packing breakfast. We're off to La breakfast. We lost the old emulatory. Thank you, zappa, reference.

Speaker 1:

Let's take a look at the mesmerizing front loader here. Oh, down to eight minutes. The water is looking so much clearer. Hmm, well, we'll see how this all turns out. Oh, what are they playing right now? Jimi Hendrix at the laundromat. So we got Jimi Hendrix playing at the laundromat. Listen, so listen. You can hear the washing machine and Jimi Hendrix. Here you go, please enjoy. No other podcast is doing this, I assure you. I think I've got the corner, this niche cornered podcast that played Jimi Hendrix while playing washing machine noise. I'm whispering again because I'm self-conscious in here. All right, I'm going to let this dude fold his shorts. I can't look at it. Hey, yeah, pretty nice shorts you got there, fella. Yeah, I noticed I'm missing a tooth. Anyhow, all right, pat's peeps, 185. See ya, I keep saying 185. It's 186, patrick, come on, it's 186. 186 got me to thinking about, hmm, what would be some great laundry songs. Let me contemplate that shall we on 186?

Speaker 3:

Laundry songs hmm, Hmm.

Speaker 1:

Ladies and gentlemen, don Henley, right here on Pat's Peeps, number 186.

Speaker 2:

Dirty laundry I make my living off the evening news. Just give me something, something I can use. People love it when you lose. They love dirty laundry. Well, I could have been an actor, but I wound up here. I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear. Come and whisper in my ear. Give us death and longing. Kick em when they're up. Kick em when they're down. Kick em when they're up. Kick em when they're down. Kick em when they're up. Kick em when they're down. Kick em when they're up. Kick em when they're down. Kick em when they're up. Kick em all around. Got the bubble headed. Bleach blonde comes on at five. She can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye. It's interesting when people die. Give us dirty laundry. Can we film the operation? Is the head dead? Yet you know, the boys in the newsroom got a running bet Get the window on the set. We need dirt and laundry.

Speaker 1:

That's Beeps 186. Again, I don't have the rights to this. I'm not trying to make any money. I'm just trying to educate, expose this music. I always have to say that. I always have to say that. I always have to say that. Yeah, by the way, I always like to point out I just love Joe. Joe Walsh, always love his guitar, always love that In this song, don Henley was on lead vocals, backing vocals, steve Piccaro was on keyboards, roger Lynn, special effects, danny Kortschmar on rhythm and backup vocals, joe Walsh on the first guitar solo that we just heard. Steve Lukather will do a second guitar solo in this song. Of course, timothy B Schmidt is on bass and backup vocals, jeff Piccaro on drums and George Gruel on backing vocals.

Speaker 2:

Oh, the crap is king, give us dirt and longing.

Speaker 1:

This is Steve Lukather on guitar guitar solo. Anyhow, Don Henley, this is other great songs about laundry. Here is this is called Leader of the Laundromat by the Detergents. Please enjoy.

Speaker 3:

Is he really going out with her? I don't know. Look, here he comes. Now let's ask him. Hey Murray, is it true, Betty's wearing your ring.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, who's that banging on the piano?

Speaker 2:

I don't know you going out with her tonight. You bet your fur.

Speaker 3:

Sunday, then you have to come and bail you out. Now for something completely different. You know how, when the washing machine gets out of kilter, you know it's unbalanced, loaded and you're sitting there and then all of a sudden you hear the washing machine starts to spin and starts wham, wham, wham, wham, wham, starts going out of kilter. Right, and you got to run in there real quick with the lid, kind of balance out the clothes and the laundry in there. All right, this is what happens here. But I love this dude here, aaron Attaway McAvoy Decided when his washing machine started doing that he just grabbed his guitar. Check it out. There goes the washing machine one, two, one, three, four.

Speaker 3:

That's so good. The devil went down to Georgia. He was looking for a soul to steal. He was in a vibe. He was way behind. He was willing to make a deal. When he came across, this young man saw him on a fiddle in a plane at high, and the devil chugged upon a hickory stump and said boy, let me tell you what. I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too, and if you care to take a dare, I'm a big old boy. But give the devil his due. I've got a fiddle of gold against your soul, so I think I'm better than you. The boys said mine is Johnny, and it might be a sin, but I'll take your bet you're gonna regret because I'm the best he's ever been. Johnny, when I'm down there I'll take the devil's hand and get him home. I'll take the devil's hand and get him home.

Speaker 1:

If you win, you get the shiny little minimum, but if you lose, the devil gets your soul. By the way, it's just confirmed Bill Ingvall, the great comedian Bill Ingvall, will be on my radio show tonight at 8.05. Kfbk.
