Ep. 210 Today's Peep Valentine's Day Special, Childhood Card Swapping Delights, Valentine's Day Humorous Insights, and The Genuine Heart of Romance
With the nostalgic sound of a train chugging softly in the background, I stroll through the diverse landscape of Valentine's Day, pondering its true essence. Broadcasting straight from the charming foothills of Northern California, I reminisce about childhood delights and the innocent thrill of swapping Valentine's Day cards. While some see the holiday as an opportunity for grand gestures, I argue that the beauty lies in heartfelt expressions and genuine connections. Join me as we celebrate love in its purest forms and challenge the notion that romance demands extravagance. Leigh-Anne Morgan, our delightful guest, adds a dash of humor with her witty take on Valentine's Day from a woman's perspective. Together, we chuckle over the amusing stereotypes and debate where true romance really resides—perhaps in the simple act of tidying up or fixing a leaky faucet.
As the episode unfolds, we explore the underlying meaning of this love-centric holiday, transcending its commercial trappings. Taking a cue from my mother's wisdom, I suggest that Valentine's Day should serve as a gentle nudge to nurture those bonds that matter most. Inspired by an imaginative tale of St. Valentine himself, I weave a poetic narrative about love and connection. Whether you're a fan of classic comedy, iconic music, or simply enjoy a good laugh, this episode promises a delightful blend of reflection and amusement. So, here's wishing you a wonderful Valentine's Day, a splendid weekend, and a cheerful President's Day. Stay tuned for more heartfelt reflections and laughter-filled episodes in the future!
Pat's Peeps 210-210. It's Valentine's Day, february 14, 2025. And as I look out of my studio window into the foothills of Northern California, the train is going by. Maybe you can hear it, the train. I don't know if you can hear that train. We love train on Valentine's Day. Yeah, happy Valentine's Day to you. Happy Valentine's Day to you. How are you Happy Friday Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day, happy.
Speaker 2:Valentine's Day Happy.
Speaker 1:Valentine's Day. I love the sound of the train in the background. Love the OJs. Thanks for tuning in Pat Walsh, host of the Pat Walsh Show, kpk Radio in Sacramento and heard on your free iHeart app nationally, internationally. Hope you're having a lovely Valentine's Day. Thank you for being a part of our Pats Peeps audience. Can you hear the train? Let me open the other door.
Speaker 3:Hold up.
Speaker 1:Hold up now Can you hear that Love the sound of that train going by here on Pats Peeps 210. I just thought we would share some Valentine's Day stuff. So many of you listen to that. Many of you are, you know, really pay attention to Valentine's Day. Many of you are like, yeah, whatever, I always see that guy at the 7-Eleven. I mean I haven't been at a 7-Eleven in a while, no offense to 7-Eleven. I mean, I haven't been at a 7-Eleven in a while, no offense to 7-Eleven. But there's always that guy who you know he's getting like a six-pack of beer and some chew and then he realizes for some reason it's Valentine's Day and because he sees that, you know, sees that flower by the cash register, it's got that cellophane on it. Oh, it's Valentine's Day. Better get me a flower from my old lady. Don't be that person.
Speaker 1:Some people, you know Valentine's Day can be seen like a positive opportunity to express appreciation and love for your partner. Other people said, yeah, you know, hooey, it's a hallmark holiday, criticized for its excessive commercialism and potential to make singles feel excluded and pressure to spend large amounts of money on gifts rather than focusing on genuine connection. Oh, please, come on, that is just so old, although my sister-in-law, my sister right away this morning, said the same thing. I mean, these are two ladies. All guys think that, and this includes me, and I can't say all guys. I take that back. But me and many guys feel like, hey, it's Valentine's Day and I want to do something for my loved one, my partner. She deserves it, whether it's your girlfriend, your wife, whatever you know. And what's wrong with that? I mean, come on, I hear that about Mother's Day Day too, and Father's Day it's a Hallmark holiday. What is Hallmark not allowed to make a living? I mean, their cards are really expensive. Now I will say that it's like $6.99 for a card, but you know it's a nice card. Yeah, you'll spend twice that on a Big Mac. Think about it when you put it in perspective. And I hear that criticism all the time. So let's run through the criticism real quick. Excessive commercialism, Really. You mean like Christmas or, I don't know, halloween or Easter. You can say excessive commercialism about any holiday. So come on with that Potential to make singles feel excluded.
Speaker 1:Well, hey, look, why would you feel excluded? I mean, if you're single, you've either chosen to be single, maybe you just haven't met the right person, but you're going to. Really, I feel so excluded. Well, I have a girlfriend but we're not married. But you know, I mean, if I were single? Believe me, I've been single many, many times and never one single time have I felt excluded on Valentine's Day. And I sure don't get butthurt over that, like, oh no, I'm missing out. Pressure to spend large amounts of money on gifts no, come on. No, there's really not. I don't believe that. I mean, you can go out and get the sweetest, nicest things. If you're looking to buy something for your sweetheart, you know, for me, even like one of those really old, that would be the most cool thing. One of those, really those vintage Halloween cards like we used to pass out back in the day when we were in elementary school. Anyone remember that? Remember your mom? You'd go to the store like thrifties or what have you, and you'd buy the Valentine's Day cards and the really old fashioned ones which I just adore, and then you'd sit at the dining room table you'd fill them out.
Speaker 1:I always felt weary when I was a kid, like I didn't want to give a Valentine's day card to a boy. But I don't think that's why you're doing. I think you're just doing. I think did we give them to other boys? I don't even remember. Maybe I don't know, maybe we just gave them to girls. I really don't remember that exactly. But what I do remember is like you would try to like there might be a girl in your class you had a crush on April Morgan, cheryl Bandy there was a few that I had a crush on and you'd get that special Valentine's Day card and you'd write something real nice on there and remember then you'd have like a we'd all make bags, valentine's Day bags, and then hang them up and then you would just go and drop your card, each person's card, into their bag. Boy, that brings back great memories.
Speaker 1:It was always the opportunity I felt to let this girl know that I really liked her. You know I had a crush on her. Can't remember if it ever worked, I mean. So, come on, I mean you know focusing, I honestly believe you could buy one of those little cards. You don't even have to buy flowers, you could do. Maybe it's something during the year that she mentioned that. Oh, I always wanted that or something special and you just jot that down. You remember that and you know you go get that for Valentine's Day, whatever it is. You just do something special, make her dinner. Just something to show that. Now, for those of you who go yeah, I know, like Mr T Ha ha, happy Valentine's Day, fool, mr T. Mr T feels like you should do this every single day of the year. That's the first thing you know. Believe it, or?
Speaker 4:not, you know. Instead of going out buying those little heart-shaped candles, give your girlfriend or your wife a box of Snickers. You see what I mean. They last a long time and nothing like chewing on that caramel in the nuts. I'll tell you, it's good, it lasts longer. And plus, here's a tip for Mr T Valentine's Day really should be every day. I pity the fool who would have to wait until Valentine's Day to tell his girlfriend or wife that he loves her and buy a box of candy.
Speaker 1:He should do that every day. Yeah, don't just do it on Valentine's Day, says Mr T. Yeah, no, I mean, he's right, that's true. You should do that every day, yes, just like you should let your you know if you have your parents still with you. Let them know how much you love them all the time. But I still don't see anything wrong with taking the one day and making a deal out of it. And so what? So Hallmark makes a living off of that Big deal. Look at how many smiles have been shared through a Hallmark card. I have so many of them that I saved. Maybe you don't, but I save them for my mom, my dad, my friends. People are no longer with us.
Speaker 1:Some do argue Valentine's Day provides a dedicated day to intentionally show affection and can encourage acts of kindness beyond just romantic relationships. You know it's a promotes expressions of love. I love this song, by the way. Expressions of love, positive reinforcement, telling your partner how much you care I know you should do that every day Strengthens relationships, and it includes them on a holiday just because they're your sweetie. Nils Lofgren, I don't own the song, but I think you'll love it. It's my most underrated Valentine's Day song. Pat's Peeps 210.
Speaker 2:Today I'm thinking about the world we live in and all the love and hate that's floating around, and all the times I felt so lost and helpless. You stood by me. You never let me down. Still, I keep throwing up these walls, most of them I build with stone. You tear them down and bridge the distance, knowing we ain't here to be alone. So let your blue's open wide. Let's never leave our dreams behind. It will comfort and restore my pride If you let me be your valentine. Our differences are part of life. Still, love will pass the test of time. I want you every day and night.
Speaker 1:Girl, won't you be my valentine? So what if Valentine's Day is a hallmark holiday? The flowers, the cards, chocolate, celebrating Valentine's Day can enhance a relationship in meaningful ways. It could last for a long time. You'll be my Valentine. Any excuse to make your relationship priority will result in a healthier, happier one, right? It serves as a nice reminder that the relationship should be a priority to you, not just a romantic type. Make the little gift, the card, the little sappy stuff. It serves as a reminder to be intentional. You can get comfortable after a couple years Slack off. Should I keep throwing up?
Speaker 2:these walls, most of them I've built with stone, if you tear them down and bridge the distance, knowing we ain't here to be alone. So let your blue heart open wide. Let's never leave our dreams behind. It will confidently store my pride, if you let me be your Valentine.
Speaker 1:You know that romantic stuff's only necessary in the beginning, right? No, you can say that, or we're in a Well. It's only necessary in the beginning, right? No, you can say that, or we're in a Well, it's only important in the beginning. We're in a place in our relationship. We don't need to celebrate all the holidays. Why Never? Stop trying to impress, trying to woo your partner. Stop trying to impress, trying to woo your partner. It's a great time to go back to those days when that was an important thing. Wooing, remind yourself of the reasons you love your significant other. What's wrong with pointing it out? Nils Lofgren, that's a great one. Pat's Peeps. Pat's Peeps 210. Hope you're enjoying your day.
Speaker 5:Y'all know what I heard on today's show. Do y'all know who Donnie Doitch is? That name's hard to say. Doitch the big idea. Donnie Doitch, he's some big advertising guy that's done like Nike. I don't know what all he's done, but anyway, nice looking man.
Speaker 5:He was on the Today Show with Matt Lauer and all them. They were talking about Valentine's and they said that men really don't care about Valentine's Day, that women, it's more for women, and that you need to buy your wife and girlfriend you know nifty things on Valentine's Day. And they said what do men want? And he said men want a woman to do nasty, vulgar things to them. And he said you know, do a surprise, like dress up in something, an outfit, like a nursing outfit or a French maid. And I thought to myself, if I've got on a French maid outfit, I know, chuck.
Speaker 5:He'd say, lynn, get some spic and span. We're gonna fix these baseboards that you had washed the whole time we lived there. I'm gonna dust them and then I want you to go over them with spic and span and then, just after I had ruined my back after a day of doing the baseboard, then he would come up to me and try to Mount me. I guess is what people say Is that nasty? I'm sorry, I don't mean that. I'm sorry, I don't mean that. Well, that's biblical. I'm sorry, I don't mean that.
Speaker 6:Well, that's biblical. I'm married. Nothing to do with your body or your hands or anything gets us excited. But you know what would turn me on? Honey, a little neatness, some help around the house Vacuum the rug, fix that leaky faucet, clean the windows and, for God's sakes, throw out them empty beer cans. And it would really turn me on if you would lift the seat before pissing once in a while. Now, that would make me hot. Look, I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. I really love you. Good night.
Speaker 2:Faster. I've been really trying baby Faster. Come on, oh, come on. Let's get it on. Let's get it on. Let's love baby. Let's get it on. Sugar, let's get it on. We're all sensitive people With so much to give. Understand each other. Since we got to be, let's live. I love you. There's nothing wrong with me Loving you baby. No, no, and giving yourself to me Can never be wrong, if the love is true. Oh, baby.
Speaker 1:Ooh, ooh, ooh, let it go. True, that's Peeps 210, valentine's Day 2025. And it's a Friday. Ooh, ooh, ooh, valentine's Day 2025. And it's a Friday. We heard Leigh-Anne Morgan doing some comedy. Valentine's Day comedy, national Lampoon Radio Hour what Women Really Want from the White Album and, of course, the great, late, late great Marvin Gaye. Let's get it on. Ooh, ooh, ooh, let's get it on. You know, go retro on you. You remember this one.
Speaker 2:How about a movie tonight, huh.
Speaker 7:Wow, what's that aftershave you're wearing?
Speaker 8:You. High karate aftershave is so powerful it drives women right out of their minds. That's why we have to put instructions on self-defense in every package. Hi Karate, the brisk splash-on aftershave that smooths and soothes and cools. Hi Karate aftershave, cologne and gift sets. Hi Karate. Be careful how you use it.
Speaker 2:And you got me like oh, what you want from me and try to buy.
Speaker 7:You put it hard buy. It's too high. Baby, you got me like gold. Your love will not fall apart.
Speaker 2:So you can put me to death and throw me against the wall. Baby, you got me like I, I, I don't you stop loving me don't quit loving me, just stop loving me oh and babe, I'm fist fine with fire just to get close to you, and I'll run for miles just to get a taste.
Speaker 7:You know I'm so glad I never got involved with you. I just would have ended up being some woman. You had to get up out of bed and leave at 3 o'clock in the morning and go clean your andirons, and you don't even have a fireplace Not that I would know this.
Speaker 8:Why are you getting so upset? This is not about you.
Speaker 7:Yes, it is. You are a human affront to all women, and I am a woman.
Speaker 8:Hey, I don't feel great about this, but I don't hear anyone complaining.
Speaker 7:Of course not. You're out the door too fast. I think they have an okay time.
Speaker 8:How do you know? I mean, how do I know, I know.
Speaker 7:Because they.
Speaker 8:Yes, because they.
Speaker 7:How do you know that they're really?
Speaker 8:What are you saying? That they fake orgasm.
Speaker 7:It's possible Get out of here why Most women, at one time or another, have faked it.
Speaker 8:Well, they haven't faked it with me.
Speaker 7:How do you know? Because I know, oh Right, that's right, I forgot, you're a man. What was that?
Speaker 8:supposed to mean.
Speaker 7:Nothing. It's just that all men are sure it never happened to them and most women, at one time or another, have done it. So you do the math.
Speaker 8:You don't think that I could tell a difference? No, get out of here.
Speaker 2:Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh oh.
Speaker 6:Are you okay? Oh, oh God.
Speaker 7:Oh, oh God, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh God, oh God, oh yeah, right there, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh God, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, oh, oh, oh, yes, yes, yes, oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh God.
Speaker 2:Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I'll have what she's had. I wonder, wonder, who, who, who, who wrote the book of love? Tell me, tell me, tell me who wrote the book of love. Tell me, tell me, tell me who wrote the book of love. I've got to know the answer. Or is it someone?
Speaker 3:from afar. I wonder, wonder, who wrote the book of love.
Speaker 2:I love you, darling Baby. You know I do, but I've got to see this book of love. Find out why it's true.
Speaker 3:I wonder, wonder who. Who, who wrote the book of love, chapter one, says to love her. You love her with all your heart.
Speaker 2:Chapter two you tell her you never, never, never never, ever going to part.
Speaker 3:In chapter three, remember the meaning of romance. In chapter four, you break up but you give the death one more chance. Oh, I wonder, wonder, who, who, wrote the book of life.
Speaker 1:Welcome back. It's the Pat's Peeps podcast on Valentine's Day. That's quite the sleeping in Seattle scene that is with Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal. That's far different to just listen to than it is to see, isn't it? To see it? You're kind of you know to hear it. Wow, wow, wow. We heard Leon, morgan Nash, lampoon Radio Hour, marvin Gaye just so many others in there. Pat's Peeps 210.
Speaker 1:So really, in my estimation, in my opinion, for whatever that's worth, valentine that's all I have really is Valentine's Day. It's not just about the red heart and the stuffed animal that are all over the shelves at Walmart or what have you Target at your grocery store. Most plentiful benefits of Valentine's Day don't come in the form of jewelry or rose, bouquets or chocolates or what have you I mean. But they're all very nice, right. But Valentine's Day, what is it? In my opinion, it's a reminder of the importance of tending to nurturing relationships, acknowledging sustaining a relationship, paying attention to the holiday, and I got that from my mother. So, returning to the initial thought of Valentine's Day as a hallmark holiday, what do I say? I say I don't care, I don't mind that, joe Ely, st Valentine St.
Speaker 3:Valentine drove a red Continental with a headlight out and a den in the side. He swore it wasn't his, it was only a rental, but he drove it every single night. St Valentine wore shades and a cowboy hat. He looked straight out alone some day. You never saw his eyes, but you knew down deep inside he was longing for a long lost love. The original lover had a broken heart To the ground. His blood did flow. Before every drop had touched the earth, a red, red rose did grow.
Speaker 1:Thank you for listening to my Pat's Peeps 210th episode. Greatly appreciate that. Have a beautiful Valentine's Day, have a great weekend and a great President's Day. We'll see you on Monday for 211.
Speaker 3:St Valentine ate pizza every Monday night.
Speaker 1:Without pineapple, chased it with Johnny.
Speaker 3:Walker Black. The waitresses would stare, but he just didn't care. He just wanted his lover back. St Valentine wore a t-shirt of the Virgin Madonna, with her sleeves cut out and a tear through the heart. He wore it like a shield to protect his pride and honor. He was tired of living so far apart. The original lover had a broken heart To the ground. His blood did flow. Before every drop that touched the earth, a red, red rose did grow. Thank you.
