Speaker 1:

welcome back to the pats peeps podcast. Yep, we're still here. Welcome back to the Pats Peeps podcast. Yep, we're still here. This is a Monday Now, the 19th day of May, birthday in the books. I'm looking out my studio windows into the beautiful foothills of Northern California, wishing you a happy Monday and telling you that it's absolutely gorgeous. The weather again, again. I've been talking about this for the last few podcasts and thank you for listening. The weather has been spectacular, by far the best weather I can imagine. The spring is the best spring that I've seen in years. It's sunny, it's not too hot. I was looking ahead because of the Strawberry Music Festival that I am attending this week and it is going to be. The weather is going to be just outstanding, like highs in the mid-70s. You know and here we are again, may 19th. A lot of times in the past, by May 19th, we've already, you know, gone from rain into straight up or even winter. You know a lot of rain into straight up or even winter. You know a lot of snow into straight up hot temperatures, but this year, spectacular. So thank you so much for for tuning in.

Speaker 1:

Um, I took one day off. I took Friday off because of my birthday, had a little birthday party on Saturday and, um, and I always hate to miss a day, but I just had such a good time, I had a wonderful time. You got to be off sometime, right, and I figured that would be the perfect day to take the day off, visit, catch up with friends and family. My sister came here from Clovis, california. My brother, steve, came from West Sacramento. Unfortunately, the rest of my family family, many of them, live in Arizona and for a variety of reasons they were unable to attend. So we're gonna get together. But heck, we had Ken Dogg here. Ken Dogg Jackman, my movie reviewer or critic.

Speaker 1:

Good friend, listen, I shouldn't even start going down this path because I'll I'm gonna forget someone, but I'll just kind of mention Darlene with a Y, ryan Harris, the guys in the band my band that I've been singing with and playing music with and just kind of jamming with, were here. My sister-in-law, mary Denise, mark McKee's widow, who was a great friend. Mark the voice guy who was with the show. Lyle was here. See, now I'm going to forget people. Robin, the interrupter, was here. Her son, ted Jason Allen, my essentially my stepson, who has been on one of my Pats Peeps podcast I mentioned Ryan. Listen, I'm going to forget someone and then I'm going to feel bad because there were so many. There were so many good people.

Speaker 1:

The fact is that we had a blast and, honestly, it was the first time that I've really hosted anything at my home since I've done all the remodeling and since I've done everything over the last, let's say, five or six years. I wanted to get it done and so, yeah, this is the first time and I can tell you honestly and I've always taught, by the way, I'm the host of the Pat Wall Show on KFBK Radio in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM, and on my show I'm always endorsing local businesses, like I do here on Pat's Peeps. Some of the businesses that I endorse on my show are Southgate Glass they did my French doors in my living room American River Flooring they did my flooring, my painting inside and out. Anyhow, all of the people who have done work on my home that I have endorsed, who changed the look of my home from essentially what was really dilapidated, almost, I think, and most people would say no, it wasn't, but to me, in my eyes, it just needed a lot of TLC built in 1910, and now it has it and people walked in and I was so proud. We had the back deck which I just had put in. French doors lead out to the back deck and then my new front porch with my new front porch cover.

Speaker 1:

We had a great time at my fire pit. It's one of the first times I've been able to use the fire pit and it was a big hit. Not only was it relaxing to sit around as we listened to music, you know, kept the bugs away, and all of that. It was a beautiful evening, weather-wise. Uh, I I just can't see enough good things about it and I thank everyone who showed up. I mean, truly, I had a good time and felt blessed to have so many good people come up Now, and not only, you know. And then everyone was so generous. I didn't ask anyone to bring anything, but people did. And essentially, when, at least in my case, when people give me gifts and they're so doggone nice about it, when people give me gifts and they're so doggone nice about it, I'm not exaggerating when I tell you I probably got.

Speaker 1:

I have a cabinet, the entire cabinet. Now the top of it is filled with whiskey Irish whiskey, like I probably got. I don't know, eight bottles maybe of different Irish whiskeys, everything from Tullamore Dew to Proper 12 to Jameson, to a couple that I had never tried, which are delicious. So now I have this, all of this Irish whiskey. Right, I don't even. I mean I enjoy Irish whiskey, don't get me wrong, I do, but everything for me is in moderation. I would look at that and go, oh, my god, I can't believe I consumed this, even if it took two years. I would go, wow, did I really drink all of those bottles? So I have to share this, my point being not only were they generous, was everyone so generous that way, but then they were generous with the beer. Now I have more beer.

Speaker 1:

I've got, I tell you, I've got, I've got a cooler jammed with beer. My refrigerator open it up. It's like I don't even have room for food. He's jammed it with beer. Now that's not even good to. To get to the wine that was given to me, I literally have a of wine. What I'm trying to say is I'm fully loaded with this stuff, fully stocked. I feel like a liquor store. I would hope that it would take me a very, very long time to consume that much liquor. That should take years.

Speaker 1:

But here's the deal, what I'm going to do, because there were certain people who couldn't make it for a variety of reasons. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna have another party and it's gonna it's gonna be called something like the please come to my home and help me drink a bunch of this liquor that people gave to me because they're so dang on generous on my birthday party. Problem with that, right Right away as I'm thinking this through. So you got to think things through, thinking it through and what seems like a good idea. Now, of course, you could drink again in moderation if you have a couple of beers. But here is the issue there are. It's not like I live right across town when you can Uber or take a Lyft or whatever. I do live up in the foothills, so to ask someone to come up and drink and then get back home, unless there's a designated driver, of course, or unless they have a hotel up here or something like that, it's um doggone. It now that I'm thinking that through. So here's the thing. I'm going to have a lot of booze sitting around my house for a long time. At some point I might finish the beer, you know, but you know I that was part of it and I'm so grateful, honestly. We'll figure it out. I'll have other gatherings. We'll figure it out. I'll have other gatherings. We'll do it in moderation, we'll have a good time. So thank you to everyone who came up.

Speaker 1:

Another thing that was very exciting for my birthday and I just want to reveal this I got this message from my bosses I mentioned. I work at KFBK in Sacramento and when the state fair comes up this year, I got a message on May 15th, the day before my birthday, essentially suggesting that I do my radio show remotely, my three-hour nightly radio show. We do it remotely which they used to be reluctant when it came, they'd be very hesitant to do that. Now they're all about it. See, it wasn't even my idea, it was theirs, and I want to tell you how exciting this is for me and how much this means for me and how big this is for this podcast, not just my show, but this podcast, pat's Peeps. So my boss says to me hey, why don't we think about maybe doing some shows from Cal Expo, the state fair, right across from my work, my studio? The next message is we could do it. We could call it the Pats Peeps gathering at the California State Fair.

Speaker 1:

I looked at that. I said what Are you serious? Because what does that mean? That means that my work is getting behind what I'm doing here on the podcast. These are two different things. Pats Peeps that's mine, all mine. My radio show that's mine, all mine, my radio show that's part of the radio station two separate entities. So when you guys go to Pat's Peeps, you're helping these businesses and you're helping me. Honestly, I never try to say that, but you are. I mean, you really are and it keeps this going.

Speaker 1:

But the point is, when they said that, I said, oh my God, because they would promote that on the radio stations. We have several radio stations, even if they just do it on KMPK, which I would hope they would maybe do it on KSTE and some of our other stations. But whatever, just the idea that they're presenting that. Then he follows that up and I'm excited about that. Already. He says you know, perhaps we could do a series of Pats Peeps gatherings at the California State Fair. So that would mean that I would be able to meet so many listeners and be able to interact with so many of you and have the opportunity to meet others who will be joining Pat's Peeps. So that's a big thing because again it tells me what used to be this little dream in my head how can I help local businesses, how can I build a business? And I just uttered those words to a friend Pat's Peeps and now people are saying it you're listening and God bless, I thank you for that and my radio people are getting behind it and that's significant. If you would get behind it, patspeepscom, that's significant to me. So, okay, thank you for that.

Speaker 1:

Also, let's see, going to the strawberry music festival this week. I cannot wait. My cousin nick is going to be here from spokane and my friend jeff jeff I call him Jefe for no reason whatsoever other than he's Jefe. These are two fine people, I'm telling you, and I can't wait for this week. Excuse me, this is the week of the Strawberry Music Festival. I believe this is my 26th. It might even be more, but I think 26, maybe 27, doesn't matter, but it's a lot. And my friend Jefe, who introduced this to me, his stepfather Dan Foote, his stepfather Dan Foote and his mother introduced me to this festival in 1993.

Speaker 1:

A four-day festival and I absolutely fell in love with it. It became one of the greatest things in my life. Some of my best memories, are out there. I mentioned this before. The weather is going to be absolutely perfect. So next week I'm going to take Thursday and Friday off. I'll have Monday off work too, but I'll do the Pats Peeps from the festival. I'm going to do it with my cousin and I'm going to do it with Hefe, so we're going to mix it up a little bit. By the way, we do on here at Pats Peeps 264 have a special, you know, when you're thinking about camping, because a lot of people camp, they'll go out there, they'll camp, and so we have a special message for you from the National Lampoon Radio Hour.

Speaker 2:

The following is a message from the American Safety Institute. Make sure that your children brush their teeth thoroughly after eating brightly colored mushrooms, odd-looking berries and other things they may find in the woods.

Speaker 1:

These foods often harbor germs that can cause tooth decay. Remember don't be a careless person, be a Care-Morphism. There you go. So that's a very important message from again from the National Lampoon Radio Hour. Hey, thanks for all the wonderful birthday messages. By the way, I got so many of them. I'm so grateful. I felt so blessed to have so many people reach out to me for my birthday. Thank you for that.

Speaker 1:

I was sorting through them and I found there's just all kinds of very nice, very interesting things that people have sent to me. One of the things that someone sent to me where did it go? Here I'm trying to find. I had it right up here. That someone sent to me is Allison sent me this.

Speaker 1:

You know I'm a big fan of the trailer. Anyone watch the Trailer Park Boys it's which was on, I think. What was it? It was essentially Canada's version of Showtime or whatever. Anyhow, big fan of the Trailer Park Boys. You know Ricky's and Bubbles and Julian and Randy and Mr Leahy, and I love the ladies of the Trailer Park Boys. It is hilarious to me. Allison I couldn't believe sent this thing to me from Randy. Randy is the shirtless character with the white trousers that's always eating the cheeseburgers. So I opened up this birthday message from Randy and I was pretty blown away. Hold on a second. Yeah, I said that right, does anyone? It's a birthday message from Randy. Anyone watch the Trailer Park Boys. It's hilarious to see. You know, I don't know what it is, I've just known people like that in my life. So somehow, someway, I've never lived in a trailer park, but I can relate. So here is Randy.

Speaker 2:

Thank you to allison all right, this is a little shout out here. It's randy. Randy from sunnyvale trailer park and a little shout out to patrick anthony walsh. You know what? He's turning 65 years old on the 16th of may. He is one sexy Irishman, that's right. And you know something? I'm getting ready to go on stage to do a cheeseburger picnic. I'm in Milwaukee, but I had to do a shout-out. This comes to you from Allison and, of course, from Randy from Sunnyvale Trailer Park, best trailer park in the world. Like, we're winners of an award from the IATPTPSAATPS, and that's the International Association of Trailer Park Trailer Park Supervisors and Assistant Trailer Park Supervisors Me and Mr Leahy. And you know something.

Speaker 2:

Back in Sunnyvale we got a lot of good dirty burgers that had been cooked in Sunnyvale I mean my good old buddy Phil Collins. We ran the dirty burger. That's why I got this belly. I think it's getting smaller, though, you know, I think it's getting smaller. Oh God, that's what it is. You know I switched to singles. Okay.

Speaker 2:

Now, sometimes I do have to prostitute myself for some burgers. I put a cowboy hat on and sunglasses and I become smoky because a man's got to eat right, and that's just the way it is. Tonight I got my nice white pants on black shoes, white pants, beautiful, belly nice. So I'm not going to have to prostitute for cheeseburgers. And you know something? I think you should stop by Sunnyvale sometime, you know, and maybe we could have a little cheeseburger picnic.

Speaker 2:

You know, you might even meet Rick the Dick. He ruined a perfectly good pair of my shoes For sakes Peed on them and I couldn't get the stink out. For sakes, he says stupid stuff. Like you can get two birds stoned at once. He messes up sayings, you know it's hard to believe. And of course, well, two turnips and heat. I don't even know what the frig that means, you know. But anyways, I hope you have a happy friggin birthday, happy 65th, and give everyone hugs. If anyone tells you you can't have fun on your birthday, you tell them to frig off. Randy told you that. Right. Here's my belly one more time. All right, happy friggin birthday.

Speaker 2:

No, Randy with Bandy Over and out Freak off.

Speaker 1:

Thank you. Thank you so much, Randy. Thank you, Allison, for that. I appreciate it. That was a very unique birthday gift.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, allison, very much for that. Hey, asswipe, where'd you get that Sansuchi amplifier? I got it at Stereos and stuff jag off and it only cost me $9.99. $9.99? What a deal For the amplifier and the tuner. Yeah, and that's not all shit-faced. I also got an anti-static record cloth and two HLH crowd-plotting. Two HLH crowd, three thousand speakers that you're drooling all over. Scumbag, Only $9.99?. I must be some sort of Neanderthal for not having gone down to stereos and stuff and got one already. I gotta fire up some money, God.

Speaker 1:

I'm ahead of my head sometimes. If you've got your head up your ass about stereos, come to Stereos and Such located at the Bergen Shopping Mall. Very good, it's Pat's Peeps 264. Thank you for putting up with me.

Speaker 1:

Hey, there is some feedback coming in. It's called smounting against Brock Purdy's contract detail After the 49ers confirmed the $265 million extension for who was once known as and I'm sure you're sick of hearing it if you're a fan or if you know football mystery relevant. But hey, that's pretty awesome, right, you're mystery relevant. Last guy, take it in the NFL draft and you get the big extension. So he goes from a little under a million per to 53 million per. Can anyone relate to that kind of money? By the way, I'm sure some of you can. I cannot.

Speaker 1:

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, making the biggest money jump of any NFL player, arguably. Anyhow, as San Francisco took a chance, showed that they are very confident in Brock Purdy and they extended his deal. As the head coach, kyle Shanahan, john Lynch, the GM and the owner, jed York, they come together. They sign a five-year $265 million extension, which makes Purdy the seventh highest-paid quarterback among the current crop of NFL quarterbacks. Uh, so yeah, some would say it's time to stop saying you know, dropping, drop time to drop Mr Irrelevant from that title as he's now the main cog there in the San Francisco offense. That's right. So yeah, this was reported. Mike Garofalo reported this May 18th that the 49ers will also sign a no trade clause with Purdy, so that leaves him in control of his future. He could choose wherever he wants to go if need be. If you know that time ever comes up. He's got 181 million in total guarantees pardon me, that chokes me up. 165 million just above that during the first three years of that deal. So pretty significant for him, a lot of guaranteed money. So, and then there are some rumors out there that maybe you know, I guess they're going to be. Are they going to be on hard knocks? I haven't watched hard knocks for a while. Maybe they are on hard knocks, I don't know. But they're saying they will definitely reveal more details and that there's this debate going on in regards to the quarterbacks. They kept quiet, but hey, I don't know. I think that shows a lot of confidence in this quarterback.

Speaker 1:

So what do the 49er fans think of this? Well, first of all, you can say this much he is now going to be, he has high expectations. There are big-time responsibilities and expectations that are going to be weighing on this young man now. A lot of pressure, it's a lot of money, so will he play up to that? 49er fans uh, let's see. What do they think of this? Let's see if I can find anything.

Speaker 1:

49ers think this kid is the new joe montana. Unreal, it didn't end there. Pretty, gets financial security. Let's see's part of the five-year contract. 49ers think this kid is Joe Montana. Let's see, this is an absolute joke of a contract.

Speaker 1:

Here's another one. This may be one of the most overrated top contracts for a mid-level player I've ever seen, but that's just a fan. What do us fans know? Anyway, right, it's the management that have put their trust in him. The head coach, the GM, the owner. By the way, who else are you going to get Kirk Cousins? Who else is going to step in? Who else is out there? Honestly, if you're a team blessed with a good quarterback right now not to go over the top with football here, but if you are, you're in a good position, because they're really. I don't think there's. I think there's a shortage of elite or really super top flight quarterbacks right now in the NFL.

Speaker 1:

Another Niner fan writes way, way over pay on all levelsed, with the no trade clause, on top of the $181 million guaranteed, says one fan. So the Niner fan base, according to some people, say that they cannot believe the massive contract extension. Apparently there were rumors that they might be in the 40s, but they made him a multimillionaire overnight. Well, in the 40s as well, right? Yet another fan blaming the quarterback for fleecing the team, writing on ex-bros really out there scamming some point of the mistake and agreeing to such a deal. One of them wrote such a dumb franchise. This all according to, you know, various sources, essentially sports and others, amit Kumar and others who have been writing about this.

Speaker 1:

But anyhow, that's done Tonight on the Pat Walsh Show. I might get into this because I don't want to do it today, because I don't want to get my blood pressure all up, but I might get into the craziness of Bruce Springsteen's rant on his tour, which was ridiculous. It might have even been the opening night of his tour, unbelievable. Let's see. So, again, thank you for all the birthday stuff. Thank you. I'm looking forward to the gatherings that we're going to be planning. Like I said, more details to come on that as soon as we get some dates. They're looking into dates for that.

Speaker 1:

On today's Pat's Peeps 264, I plucked a record from my rare record collections, my 45 collections and this one is on. Every time I see this one, I you know what this one always reminds me of is trying to think um, it always reminds me of the actual album. This is a 7 inch 45, but the actual album of. I think it is. Oh god, I hope I don't get this wrong. I might get this wrong now that I'm thinking about it, but it seems like it's Pink Floyd. Metal might be one of the records that have that are on this record label which is Harvest, this green label. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong on that, but it just seems like it. Or maybe Uma Guma. Maybe it's Uma Guma by Pink Floyd. Anyhow, that's, this green label Record is in just beautiful condition.

Speaker 1:

I'm just amazed. I always say that, but I am amazed. I get a little dust on it. It's been sitting on a shelf since this one, since 1982. So 82. 43 years, or whatever. It's been sitting on a shelf From the LP the Golden Age of Wireless.

Speaker 1:

As I look at their record at the label, even the label is in mint condition. I don't even see a sticker, a stamp, anything from the radio station, let's see. And it does actually have a song on the other side, a B-side, which I am completely unaware of. This song, I've never heard of it. The other song, the main song, oh my god, I heard it all the time. So, uh, let's see anything else before I get to that now, I'll save that for my show tonight. Hope you listen to my radio show. By the way, yeah, this song right here is. Uh.

Speaker 1:

This is an English musician who released this in 1982. It was a single in the UK October of 82, included on the EP by the same name the title track, and then the 1983 re-release of his debut album. As I mentioned, the Golden Age of Wireless. And although this was viewed as a success both in the United States and in Canada, went to number five on the Billboard Hot 100, two weeks at number one in Canada's RPM magazine, this song barely managed to score among the top 50 in this artist's native United Kingdom. It went to number 49 on the UK singles chart in 1982. So in America, in Canada, this was huge. At home, eh, whatever. This artist is often considered a one-hit wonder in the United States. This is on the basis of this song's chart success in the United States.

Speaker 1:

In 2002, vh1 named this song as number 20 on its list of the 100 greatest one-hit wonders. That's a good topic, one-hit wonders. I should jot that down for my show. That's pretty good too. Anyhow, I digress. Number 20 on the one-hit wonders. The song is this artist's only top 40 single, like I said, of the Hot 100. He's had other songs that scored on the music charts. 06, vh1 placed at number 76 on the list of greatest songs of the 80s. 09, it ranked at number 13 on VH1's 100 greatest one-hit wonders of the 80s list.

Speaker 1:

It was used now some of you will get it from this it was used as the theme song in the pilot episode of the Big Bang Theory, which I'm not a big fan of at all. Some people think it's the greatest thing ever, but that's before it was replaced with the Big Bang Theory theme by the bare naked ladies. Now, as far as the song goes a little bit here, this song this should give it away features exclamations from the British scientist and TV presenter, magnus Pike, who repeatedly interjects science and delivers other lines, deliberately caricatured as a mad scientist, I'm sure many of you remember this being on the radio all the time, thomas Dolby, she blinded me with science, science, science. Yes, but as a known scientist, it would be surprising if a girl blinded me with something. Hello, hello.

Speaker 2:

Hello, I'm going to go Now. The poetry in motion. When she turned her eyes to me, as deep as any ocean, sweet as any honey, she blinded me with science, found it in geometry. When she's dancing next to me, science, science, I can hear machinery, science.

Speaker 1:

Science, science, poetry in motion. Now she's making love. Of course, the obligatory. I don't own the rights to this kind of a thing. I'm just educating, science, educating, educating For those who do not know. That's right. That's right. That reminds me so much of Chico Top Flight Ballroom, madison Bear Garden, the Grad, anyone.

Speaker 1:

Here we go, science, woodstock's pizza, anyone. But what's on the other side of that? Hmm, there's gotta be something on the other side. Well, there is this one here. Let's take a listen together. I know nothing about, I'm not gonna look it up. Hmm, there's got to be something on the other side. Well, there is this one here. Let's take a listen together. I know nothing about it, I'm not even going to look it up, let's just listen.

Speaker 1:

Because, yeah, I mean, it's like certain artists. I always wonder what else did they do? Like Gary Newman in Cars, what else did he do? I just kind of wonder that with Thomas Dolby as well. Is it similar to the song Science? Here's Thomas Dolby, the flip side of Blinded Me with Science. It's called Flying North. Let's check it out. Very 80s sound, right? Oh, wow, it's got a very interesting synth sound. It's just really it's so 80s. But Well, there you go, at the back of an airport lounge I'm staring down into the cold till I'm warm. Well, there you go. Flip side of she Blinded Me With Science. Flying North, thomas Dolby Science. Thank you so much. Thank you for being a part of my Pats Peeps podcast. You're going to hear more about it. I promise you have a beautiful Monday. We'll see you on the radio and hopefully this week at the Strawberry Music Festival. You're in for me again tomorrow. Thank you.
