hello there. Happy friday to you. It hey, it's the Pat's Peeps podcast On this. This is the 30th day of May 2025. Gorgeous day.
Speaker 1:As I take a look out my studio windows into the beautiful foothills of Northern California, where the weed eating woke me up very early this morning, I'm laying in bed. I like to lay in bed. We've got my window open. I love that breeze coming in. The weed eaters they're everything. 7.30 in the morning, god Go. I mean, I understand we've got to weed eat. This property up here Everyone has this long old weed. It's a blessing, isn't it? It's a blessing to be alive on a sunny spring Friday.
Speaker 1:Temperatures are going to get like to 102 or 103 today and tomorrow. I love the heat, I don't care. Hope everyone can tolerate the heat. By the way, let me introduce myself. My name is Pat Walsh. I'm also the host of the Pat Walsh Radio Show on KFBK Radio in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM, streaming live everywhere on your free iHeart podcast. Just like this. Just like this podcast today. Today is going to be and some of you are going to go well, thank God for small favors, but this might be a little shorter of a podcast today because you know one of our missions here at the Pats Peeps, without belaboring the point, is to support small business. So I'm headed down to Sacramento today. We're going to shoot video for one of my endorsements for a small business, a Pats Peeps business Excited about that Always, anything I can do to help the small business, I'm always excited about that.
Speaker 1:By the way, today I plucked another record out of my 45 collection. You know, a couple of days ago I said that you know it's not my favorite favorite song but a lot of you love it and it's just a huge hit and uh. And so I played it and it was Karma Chameleon by Boy George, the Culture Club. And you know I'm not a fan, being honest, it's just a random pluckage of the record from the uh collection. And then yesterday on the show I did another one which again, it's not like when I was growing up I was like, yeah, awesome, this song is on right on bro. No, I wasn't, you know, it was Janice and I heard the news at 17. You know, I thought I was sappy as a kid, I didn't hate it, I understood it, you know. But but that was yesterday's featured record.
Speaker 1:Now, today's record that I plucked out from my 45 collection. I don't like this song. I'm sorry they're not all, they're not always going to be ones that I appreciate, but again, I know how many people love this song. It is beloved, it's iconic. They used to play this on fm all the time. This is like the shorter version, but they used to play this song on fm. But you know, just thought I would set it up.
Speaker 1:Now we have some good news again with the pats peeps podcast. Again with the pats peeps, not again with the podcast. Anyhow, thank you, I'm still so proud. We're over 50,000 downloads for only 270 episodes. And you know what? Again with no YouTube hooked up to this, like no video, it's just audio, where we don't even talk about a specific thing. Oh my God, I'm so proud of that and it would have happened if it weren't for you and our ever-growing podcast family. And you guys keep calling my radio show now and going Pat, I'm loving the podcast.
Speaker 1:I got another couple of calls on that last night. The more you do that and the more you go to patspeepscom, which is so simple and save money by doing it, the bigger this becomes. So I really please again. I know I keep saying it, but I promise you, it means so much to me. You know I do these every day and to these businesses, if you would just, and to you. You know it's going to save you money. Patspeepscom. All right, enough of that.
Speaker 1:The good news is and I can't. We haven't finalized everything on this yet, but here's what's happening with the pats peeps number one my work, all right, they. They contacted me because they want to do some, shall we say, pats peeps gatherings. Here's what we're planning. We are planning to do pats peeps gatherings at the California State Fair.
Speaker 1:Thank you, where's my buttons? Hold on. You know, I never get to use these other buttons. I can never remember which one it is. Let's find out. Is it this one? No, let's see this one. No, hold on, is it this one? Oh, there we go. Yeah, there we go. Yes, thank you, I go. Yeah, there we go. Yes, thank you, I'll try that again.
Speaker 1:Patch peeps gatherings at the california state. Thank you so much. Golly, never get to use these. I forgot what the other ones are. Let's see what these are. Oh, yeah, I think this one's crickets. Let see, I listen to this every night on my Alexa. I like the sound of crickets. What else do we have. Oh, thank you so much. Hey everybody, how you doing that works with this one, then. Thank you so much. What's this one? This is fun to go through. Oh God, I don't like that one. That's for George Norrie. And then, finally, you know, I remember back when I whatever. So again, we're going to be at the State Fair. Yes, pats, peeps, gatherings at the State Fair.
Speaker 1:I can't wait to tell you all about it, give you the dates. It's going to be essentially a gathering of all the people that listen to my podcast, my radio show, businesses that we've invited, that are part of this, all of that stuff. Yay, I'm super excited. Number two bammo gonna be on the fox 40, studio 40, with my friend, gary galfan. Come on, where is it? Thank you, studio 40. That's right, they got back to Do. You know what they said? Yeah, pat, let's do this, let's push your Pat's peeps, and in return, we'd like to be on your podcast. Come on now. Thank you, see, now I'm abusing this button, but it'd be a lot better. I mean that one's a lot better than if I said and we're going to be on Studio 40. Right, just the sound effect itself. It means so much. Stop it, thank you Anyhow.
Speaker 1:So we're going to be promoting Pat's Peeps. Understand this when we're doing these things all right, these are things that I'm working on to make sure that I'm supporting local business. And what we're doing here, our mission, when we are at the fair and we are doing my and what we're going to be doing is my radio show. When I say Pat's Peeps gatherings, by the way, I'm talking about doing my radio show from there. So we're going to be inviting all these people to be part of our you know our list. We're going to have a live studio audience. Please I'm going to tell you the dates Please come out there.
Speaker 1:Let's get a huge mob of Pat's peeps out there. It would be huge for me and for all of the businesses. So when I'm doing this, it's representing the business. When I go on these TV shows, it's representing the businesses. When I talk about my podcast on the radio show and here, it's about the businesses because I'm hoping and I'm praying honestly that some of you will go. Okay, pat, you know what that does sound pretty good. I'm going to go to patspeepscom. So we're going to be on Fox 40, on Studio 40, with Gary Gelfand and Scott, and I can't wait for that. We'll give you the talk. Well, again, we'll give you the um, the dates as soon as I get them. Now. Also, greg Lucan, bill, former Sacramento Kings owner. We talked recently. He's big with the Sacramento chamber. So, yours truly and Danielle, who was part of Pat's peeps, one of the peeps, who is an assistant with the team part of our team we are going to be visiting the Sacramento chamber of commerce at some point and spelling this out to everyone, telling everyone at this fabulous Sacramento Chamber of Commerce what Pat's Peeps is all about. What an opportunity. And again, I'll let you know when all of these dates are set.
Speaker 1:In stone Lay Tip, which is another local group that supports local businesses. It is made up of local businesses. They have asked me to be a speaker at their group. Thank you, thank you, my gosh, you guys. Thank you so much. See, this is what it would actually sound like if we had the studio audience out there at the fair like this. We should have that many people. Fair like this, yeah, we should have that many people.
Speaker 1:Someone said yesterday when I was, or a couple days ago when I was I think it was pat's peeps 256. Have I even mentioned today that it's 272. I don't even think I mentioned that. Pat's peeps 272. Come on, oh, I'm gonna abuse these buttons. Thank you, that's great. Hey, now I said it was 156. Yeah, that's right. Instead of instead of, uh, 256 or 265, I was saying 165. Now I have no idea what I'm talking about. Thank you, that's. What I needed is that lady's lingering laugh. Did you hear that little lingering smart ass laugh at the end? I can't believe I'm going to talk at the chamber and at late. Tip. Thank you, everyone. Let's see what else is on my docket today. Ticket bastard. Hi, welcome to ticket bastard. Sorry, your call means a lot to us, but you know what? We're a bunch of bastards, so we're not gonna pick up and you're gonna miss out on your tickets.
Speaker 1:Robin, the interrupter, was not happy this morning when she was apparently on hold with Ticket Bastard, or whatever. It is trying to get tickets for the Grateful Dead, and then she did not get the tickets, as it turns out. What a drag that is. What are you kidding me? She was on hold for a long time, or whatever. Your call is very important to us. Your expected wait time is one hour and 27 minutes. They would never play great on hold music like this.
Speaker 1:But she's trying to get tickets to Jerry Garcia's birthday party to go see the dead. What'd she say? It was like $240 a ticket. Like $240 a ticket, what it's coming up in, I believe August Can't believe Jerry's been dead now since 1995. I can't believe Jerry's been dead now since 1995. Wasn't that the same year as the Macarena? Ah, rest in peace, jerry.
Speaker 1:So Robin is like she was very emotional. Robin, we're here to support you. We care about you. Robin. She's like I couldn't, robin. I couldn't get through. I couldn't get through to what. Were you on? Get through to who? Ticket Bastards? Ha Hi, welcome to Ticket Bastards. We'll have a bastard. Get on your phone call as soon as the hells we can. All right, bastard. Remember George used to say that in Seinfeld hey, you bastards. Was he talking with the Astros? He was part of the Yankees. Anyhow, don't worry Robin, all right, we'll get you tickets. We'll figure it out. We shall figure it out, ticket bastard. Really cool to hear about.
Speaker 1:Well, from a friend, mark Selig. I heard from him today. Mark Selig, he and I were colleagues many years ago at KPAY in Chico and Mark and I used to do Live at Five at KPAY, which was news and sort of you know all-encompassing news and weather and traffic and sports and a bunch of chit-chat and all of that. And it was really awesome to see that Mark, as he is driving through Sacramento now he doesn't live in the area but he listens to my show after all of these years. He was talking to Kitty O'Neill, who's also my colleague, who I work with, and she sent me along. She forwarded this email about how much he loved the handoff between Kitty O'Neill and myself that he listens to my show every time he's in the area. Man, I got to tell you Mark, thank you, longtime colleague from way back, funny dude, just a great guy and used to do some great dances, by the way, we laughed so hard. Used to do the sprinkler and the running man. I don't know what you'd call all of these, but yeah, he says the show's fantastic. What you'd call all of these? But yeah, he says the show's fantastic. He travels to Tahoe fairly often and tunes in the show.
Speaker 1:Oh, what's this? We just got a story here that just shot over. Hold on a second. Oh, oh, oh. How sad. This just popped up Loretta Swit, who won two Emmy Awards playing Hot Lips Houlihan.
Speaker 1:Margaret Houlihan, the head nurse of the surgical unit during the Korean War on MASH, has passed away 87 years old. Oh oh, no, that's sad. I really loved her. We'll definitely have to talk about that on the show tonight. Oh yeah, and I'm going to have to wear my MASH shirt today in her honor. Ah well, that's sad news to hear that right now.
Speaker 1:Hot Lips Houlihan, major Margaret Houlihan oh, how about a little kiss for me? She didn't take any trash from these guys. She was always interested in Frank, which I never understood that. I'm not going anywhere with you, frank. This is the end of the line for us. From now on, I'm number one, me, margaret Houlihan. Aw, every soldier I deserve better than you At this chest. He's in pain, ms, one quarter, he'll be next to, no more.
Speaker 1:You know, margaret hulahan, she could be with frank and things are goofing around. That was the man, that was the brilliance of that show. They could be in the midst of, you know, hilarity and it's it's everything's funny. And then the next second there's patients coming in, there's soldiers coming in, and everything turns very serious. You're a nurse, that's an honorary thing, so you can boss around a bunch of nurses, but not men, not real soldiers. Is that so well? Let me tell you something, soldier, I'm damn proud of these. Nobody gave them to me, I earned them and I'm just as much a major as any other major. Oh, wow, I'll definitely have to talk about her on my show tonight. I'm really sorry to hear that.
Speaker 1:The passing of Larissa Swit oh my gosh, too bad, that is, yeah anyhow. So that just came across. Listen. Like I say, it's going to be a somewhat shortened version today of the Pat's Peeps podcast. For that I do apologize, but not too much, because you know I am going to help a business. You know, john Fogerty, here's something for you.
Speaker 1:John Fogerty is going to be releasing some re. I don't know what would you call them, I guess some reworked, re-recorded Creedence classics. Now these really have become classics. He's got a new album coming out. He says he wanted to call it Taylor's version. He says during a recent visit to New York I lobbied very much to the record company, but maybe he's joking, whatever, but he's going to be releasing I guess re-recording these Creedence classics. Fogarty says his label passed on the idea, then again had a point on stage at New York's Beacon Theater during the first of his 80th birthday celebration shows, fogarty announces upcoming LP Legacy, the Creedence Clearwater Revival Years. This is due out August 22nd.
Speaker 1:The album's 20 tracks are not just covers of his best known and beloved songs from his Creedence days. Rather, they're painstaking recreations of the original versions, down to Fogarty's singing and guitar parts and the original rhythm section, starting with Up Around the Bend, continuing through his big hits Proud Mary, who Will Stop the Rain? Bad Mood Rising, come Down on the Corner, excuse me. Porterville, a deep cut and Bootleg Wow.
Speaker 1:Now before I say gee, please don't do this, I have two opinions. One, roger Waters, who just tried to redo the Dark Side of the Moon, was an absolute pathetic joke. Leave it alone. Stop it already. Don't do that. It's horrible. Who do you think you are? I know you wrote the damn thing, but don't re-record something that is perfection.
Speaker 1:I feel the same way about a lot of these Creedence songs. I definitely feel that way about a lot of these Creedence songs. I definitely feel that way about the Roger Waters re-recording the Dark Side. But if you listen to Pink Floyd, I mean, it's not Pink Floyd but Peter Frampton who released some acoustic versions of Lines on my Face I Want to Show you the Way and some other of his classics. He does an acoustic album of that. It's really good. So I'm torn. I'm going to have to listen to this. It always is like please leave it alone, then you hear it. If they're trying to do it the same way, that's one thing, but if they're trying to do it in a much different way, then that's a little different to me. Speaking of that and speaking of Creedence, I want to play a little bit of this for you.
Speaker 1:So there's this thing it's called the Reflex Revision series, reflex Revision. You can find this on YouTube. It's the Revision Club remix, and so what they do is they take an original track all right, a classic track. They add nothing to it. They don't add any additional sound of their own. They don't put anything else in there, except what they do is they take the original music that was recorded in that song and they just separate the tracks and they lay them down differently, so they cannot add any of their own music, like I say, but they just take the original tracks and then remix them in a certain way. So here's a Creedence song done by the Reflex Revision.
Speaker 1:My only real criticism of this and maybe I've said this before in the podcast. I'm going to start this like 34 seconds in because the intros are a little bit long for my liking. Because the intros are a little bit long for my liking. I like a good intro but they kind of go on. You can even hear it right now. But check out how he reworks this using only the original tracks Really kind of modernizes faint guitar in the background, background vocals, bringing them up and prominence, bringing them up and prominence. But again, the intro is just a wee bit long. We're at a minute and 30 into the intro right now. Now it kicks. See, I like that, oh, I love the way they kick it in here, wow, wow, taking the original Guitar solo and putting it up front. Thank you, I love the way they put the guitar back behind that Doesn't that sound like? It modernizes it, it updates the sound of the song.
Speaker 1:Neither the Reflex Revision nor myself own the rights to this, so I just want to expose both Reflex Revision. And he does it with a lot of different artists. By the way, it's not just Creedence he does it with, like Michael Jackson, marvin Gaye who else does he do this? David Bowie Free, all right now. I've not heard that one. Uh, she's so many marvin gay, who else does he do this? Uh, david bowie, free, all right now. I've not heard that one. Let's just take a little dip into that. See what he does with this. Oh, listen to that, god. What does that sound like? What does that sound like? What does that sound like? Oh yeah, you know this is good, but remember the original. Oh, that is so awesome.
Speaker 1:The original kicks in with the initial riff. This one works up to it. Oh yeah, oh wow, taking the middle guitar and putting it up front, it's pretty cool. Again, long intro, right Already a minute 20. They still haven't got to the big riff. Oh, my God, they still haven't got to it. Anyhow, there's an idea what I'm talking about. I'm going to play my record now. I'm going to play. My God, they still haven't got to it. Anyhow, there's an idea what I'm talking about. I'm going to play my record now. I'm going to play my record.
Speaker 1:This one has a B-side. Where did I get it? Oh, here, it is All right. This is a white record label. This is on. Columbia has a record. Man, everything's been 1969 in my conversations the last couple of days. Radio station sticker says 1969. It's also got a red sticker on there that says 53. On the other side, no stickers, not for resale. So these are promos. The record is in beautiful condition. The label isn't in that great a condition but the vinyl is in beautiful condition. The label isn't in that great a condition but the vinyl is in awesome condition. All right, I'm going to play this song for you. This is again. I just even growing up, it wasn't one of my favorites. I'm just being honest, like I always am.
Speaker 1:Written in December of 67, seattle Washington Manager Matthew Katz had moved this band there to polish up their act at a Seattle venue before booking them into San Francisco nightclubs. They were living in the attic of a Victorian home across the street from Volunteer Park and the band had inadequate food. They had no transportation during a rainy and cloudy, cloudy seattle winter. Uh, which this? That's what this song is to me, kind of sort of it is. It's perfect for a rainy and cloudy seattle winter. Uh, the song evolved from the depression right, that's what I feel about of the band. Circumstances and yearning to be free uh, the song's repeated chorus. Well, I don't want to give it away. In. Yearning to be free, the song's repeated chorus. Well, I don't want to give it away, but they'd play this on FM all the time. I don't really recall it playing on AM that much, but on FM I would hear it.
Speaker 1:It was arranged and produced by David Laflamme and sung as a duet between him and the group member Patty Santos. A duet between him and the group member Patty Santos Prominent stylistic feature of the song's original arrangement, multiple violin parts overdubbed by La Flame, was first released on the 1969 band on the band's 1969 debut album Became. The band's signature tune, staple of FM album-oriented rock, radio Right Went to number 47 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Then, following the popularity of the album track, a single version which I hold in my hand, edited, remixed for the radio play, with a running time of 302, released October 4th 1969, went to number three the week of October 18th of 69. A single never reached a wide national audience, only made it to number 118 on billboards, uh under the hot 100 chart, and it's nearly a 10 minute long version on the original or on the uh carnegie hall version of this.
Speaker 1:Without further ado, my friends, it is, and it actually reflects what today is, because it is a beautiful day and the white bird must fly or it shall die. I always pictured what these guys look like in my mind. I've never seen them. In my mind they look like the man and the lady that hosted the New Zoo Review. Anyone remember them? Guy got the horn-rimmed glasses, plaid pants, white belt and a flute. To the darkened sky in its rain. She's got like a guitar in her hand. A white bird just sits in her cage. Unknown White bird must fly. She will die, oh man, she will die. No, she's got the violin. That's not the guitar, the violin, she's got the violin. I don't even know if that's true, I'm just picturing this in my violin. That's not the guitar, the violin, she's got the violin. I don't even know if that's true, I'm just picturing this in my mind.
Speaker 1:The host of the Newsy Review. Remember that show With three delightful animals and fun with what they do. Thank you for listening to Pat's Peeps 272. How appropriate to say have a beautiful day and we'll see you. On the radio, the white bird dreams of the aspen tree With its dying knees Turning gold. But the white man
